Metroid Wii U
Retro Studios is a known name among Nintendo fans: it’s the Nintendo-owned development house that made the fantastic Metroid Prime series for the GameCube and Wii. Now of course, the studio is expected to put all its talents into creating an awesome Wii U game, and many expected that game to be another Metroid title (see the awesome Metroid concept art for inspiration). However, Nintendo remains tight-lipped about what goes on inside of Retro. Reggie Fils-Aime was asked by IGN about the situation, and he replied: “Rest assured, the team is hard at work. But I’m not gonna tell you what they’re working on”. Fils-Aime also confirmed that it’s unlikely we’ll hear anything about what Retro is working on anytime soon.

Many were disappointed by the lack of any real surprises from Nintendo at E3 — many were hoping for a title that would really appeal to core gamers, something like Zelda or a Metroid game. Despite being showcased last year, the Wii U Zelda title was completely missing from this year’s E3 lineup. Third party core titles are aplenty, though, including ZombiU, Mass Effect 3, and Assassin’s Creed 3.

please for the love god make another metroid game we haven’t seen anything since “metroid other m” and maybe they could do something like using the game pad to control samus and her ship and you can zoom in for more precise aiming plus i have this idea that dark samus is somehow Resurrected by the pirates and is obsessed with revenge on samus and in the begining of the game you’ll fight her and allmost kill her but then dark samus will merge herself with samus kind of like in mp3 and you will have a dark mode where you use dark samuses powers sound good to any of you let me know what you think

    • alienfish

Yeah, they keep resurrecting Ridley, so why not Dark Samus? Although, Dark Samus was never in their control in the first place. I like the idea, but really, even if what we want is a cool blast from the past with new tweaks, what we need is something completely fresh.

Star Fox is in the best position for this kind of reboot if you ask me. There are just too many cool things that you can do with an elite group of space fighters in an entire solar system to pass up making a game for it. My thoughts, they should ditch any and all linearity that the series has been known for and go for more of an open world approach.

    Yes i cop’ too !!!

That Zelda game was basically just an HD version of Twilight Princess. And with Skyward Sword having only been released last year, we have a wait ahead for another one. Next year we’ll get an early demo, probably, and the year after, a demo of the finalized version of the game. I remember hearing that they wanted to speed up the Zelda production, but I’m still guessing about 3 years between each installment. It’ll probably be lined up with smash bros, unless they haul ass and make smash bros for next year, which would definitely take away some of the ps4, nexbox hype. Nintendo only showed definite launch window stuff. I would guess that means stuff coming out through next February or so. So we may find out some more stuff about some pre-E3 stuff for next year over the next few months. We’ll probably see a big, unannounced, game or 2 next march though may. Maybe that’ll be Retro’s big reveal. That or they’re saving it for the 1 year anniversary of the system to really have it leave a mark. Either way, 2013 is gonna be a big year for Nintendo’s next system, cause once that install base is in, that’s when the really big hitters will start to hit the ground running

Let’s not forget that GTA V is coming to WiiU. That game alone is going to be enough to cover a full six months of my free time so a light amount of games in year one won’t matter much to me.

      • Icanseeu

Really because Rockstar haven’t announced it for the WiiU! It’s only a rumour made up by this site and considering what they said about all games being in 1080p i wouldn’t believe the rumour!!

  • DerikGotro64

Retro is the new Rare for nintendo. What ever it is; metroid, starfox or something new, it’ll be good. We just gotta wait and not get our hopes up.

  • Swic11

    Does Nintendo own retro?

    • alienfish

Basically. I think they’re considered 2nd party but, for Retro, I think there’s a mighty fine line between that a being a 1st party for Nintendo. Tell me this: if one of the big three gaming companies offered you the steadiest flow of work imaginable, wouldn’t you keep working for them? I would seriously kill to be a part of the Retro dev team since job security would basically be assured for my entire career.

    • Deuce

Retro is totally owned by Nintendo. In fact, they were owned by Nintendo before Nintendo bought them: the company was formed with the intent of creating Nintendo-exclusive games.

  • pj_cub

What is Nintendo game being announced at 5pm Thursday at E3, anyone have any idea?

  • Hafid

    Good thing …

  • Richnj

It still bugs me that’s the halo 3 HUD.

  • Gamecube forever

Retro studios is an amazing company they made in my opinion the three best metroids EVER. Personally I think their making a metroid game but we can’t really predict right now. However I believe retro studios will come through big again no matter what game they make!
