Wii U pre-production version photos

Wii U pre-production version
The guys over at LazyReviewzzz attended a recent Nintendo event in Toronto, where the company showed off the Wii U console. They got some hands on time with the console and managed to snap some photos of it as well. It looks like a pre-production version of the console, which is very similar to the V5 Wii U dev kits. As the photos show, the current version of the console features extra layers of plastic that we have seen before in a video. The Wii U GamePad on the other hand, looks pretty much like the final production version. Head on after the break for the full gallery.

i doent care for what the consol looks like i wish game componies were not so cheap as to smooth edges of old consols (PS2-PS3 Xbox-Xbox360)

  • Garzard

    Oh yeah!

  • intxa

I think this is the final version, but with a security locker to avoid it being stolen.

    Can’t wait to get it.

    • Draco Breach

Agreed. It appears to be the production version advertised on Nintendo’s own website. Me thinks WiiUDaily just jumped the gun a tad.

I also notice somebody playing Nintendo Land’s Donkey Kong attraction in the background. Though, I don’t recognize some of the other screens off the top of my head.

      • Alienfish

I think all the rest were from the new Rayman game.

        • Draco Breach

          You, good sir, are correct.

I missed some of the details my first time through the images. It is indeed Rayman Origins.

  • Alom

I love the wine bottle in the background hahaha

i wish these were taken with a… well… not such a crappy camera. haha. i’m such a photo snob xD

    • Draco Breach

I’ll agree to that. These appear to have been taken with a phone camera, too. A lot of the pictures show graininess from digital zoom.

Still, love seeing the beast in the wild ;)

  • Draco Breach

    Wii U.

    Launch.

    Date.

    Can.

    Not.

    Come.

    Soon.

    Enough!

    That is all.

It appears dat d whitish thing is to keep d dudes from opening the console….i wonder y dey r hidding the specs so much..maybe the wiiu is far more powerful dan we think….oh n i hope they sell the black one at launch cuz who doesnt love black

    • epic

  • brandon

Anyone no if any release titles r in 3d

    • Draco Breach

Nintendo has stated that they have no interest in making a 3D game on a home console yet. They’ve stated it reduces playability in a family setting, so it may be explored in their single-player offerings later. Keep in mind, all the titles they’ve announced has multi-player, same-room settings. Current 3D technology has a fairly limited viewing angle, so I do see their point.

Besides my disappointment in 3D technology at the moment as a whole.

…still love my 3DS, but that’s because it manages to ‘pop’ with no glasses. A huge technological achievement. Still, very limited viewing angle.

If a particular developer wants to release 3D games, they are welcome to. I don’t have a 3D television, and I have no intention of buying one anytime soon (note – I did not say upgrade to one).

I wouldn’t be surprised if developers started announcing 3D games soon. Perhaps we’ll see some in the eShop.

  • Shankovich

Oh look at that, it’s hooked up to a 3D TV…

  • Shankovich

Ok, my comment was weak and stupid sorry lol. This happened in Toronto, seriously??? -____- so close yet so far ;_;. Looking at its size my expectations of very powerful hardware (GPU really) are bit more dim now…no way you can pack something [that most fans here] want into something that size (thermal management). Still, looking forward, and if Nintendo engineers came up with a way to run a wicked heat sink capable of over 150 watts TDP in there, they should get a medal.

  • Paul

yeah pictures were taken from a mobile phone…

will only start saving for this console in august

im pretty sure that there will be a white and black version released on day one as they wouldnt show a black one if they arent going to sell it as it would make nintendo look like a bunch of noobs

release date should be between november and december 2012

price will be between £250 and £400

  • Neonridr

Jeez, I wish I would have known when this event took place. I live like 45 minutes away from Toronto..

  • Sikora

Notice the 3D sticker. Are the games gonna be 3D capable?

    • James

Yes, it was confirmed shortly after last years E3. :D

  • Gamer

Mark rein from unreal creators epic says third party developers that want to use the unreal 4 can easily port games to the Wii U. So the Wii U can support unreal 4 why don’t these other Tekken tag like producers just man up and support it full throttle. Am beginning to like krytek with their Kryengine 3. Which is actually superior to unreal engine 4. Frostbite engine creators could also make buku bucks if the start supporting indie and mid range third parties now. Nice photos of the Wii U above by the way :).

    • Britton

I’ve been under the impression there was still a debate on whether the Wii U could handle Unreal 4, yet you state it can without even blinking. Did I miss something? Is the debate over and it’s obvious that it can?

  • Cool Dude

So are analog triggers added to the gamepad?
