Star Beast coming to Wii U

Developer Pixel Entertainment has announced a new indie title for the Wii U: Star Beast. The game is a 2.5D space shooter that’s scheduled for release sometime in 2013 on the PC, Nintendo 3DS, mobile phones, and the Wii U. The game’s Facebook page description reads: “Star Beast takes you across a barren earth, through space, and into a hostile alien planet”. The story revolves around the discovery of a new planet and alien life form, where players will control a spaceship as part of a colony on the new planet. Or at least, that’s what we’ve been able to get out of the cryptic game description from the developer. But at least we got a Star Beast logo and some concept art to look at:

Defiantly looks interesting. Can’t wait to hear more about it

    • gNat

      i hope its fps

  • Laud

    Cool, I guess.

Never heard of these developers but it’s nice to have more games, right?

    • Wils81

They’re called indie developers for a reason.

      • Laud

Just because they’re indie doesn’t mean they’re rare gems in a desert.

I’ve heard of other indie devs, just not these guys.

      • D2K

It means you have to start from somewhere. Every development company had to start off from scratch. Even EA at one point was an independent developer too.

  • Tubba Blubba

Meh, it looks alright. It’s good to see nintendo working with more indie developers though

    • u mad bro

      Tubba Blubba strikes back!

  • jman4102

sounds good but i feel like i have heard this plot line a million times

    • LazerK

Sounded a bit like Starfox/Metroid to me

  • link 5

    Sounds like a cool game

  • link 5

    Sounds cool

  • Claudio

    Doesn’t sound fun

    • Nitro

God forbid you have an opinion about something.

  • Gabe Hoffman

Sounds great hope we see Wii U getting more indie games like this in the future

  • Fudgewhizzle

Ooh lovely, I love space shooters! :)

  • Millionbartek

I want Star FOX developed by Nintendo EAD or Retro studios, not Star BEAST!

    • Wils81

You could say the same thing about Star WARS… -.-

    • SteampunkJedi

I don’t think we have enough information yet to judge this new game.

      • Millionbartek

Yeah true. But I would love a new Star Fox game. It’s been so long already, what are they doing. Maybe it’s a big surprise?

        • SteampunkJedi

As would I. But this game could turn out great, too.

  • LolWatTurtles

Glad to hear more games are going on the Wii U. I’m hoping we see a couple more announced games for the Wii U in September at the same time as the release and price.

  • Falcon PAWTCH!!!

Seems cool, I should give it a go don’t ya think?

  • Jnc

Not a fan of most shooters, ill keep an eye on this one for now :)
    and Hehey New Game! :D

  • SuperShyGuy

This is what Nintendo needs. To be reaching out to the inde maybe discover a new Naughty Dog

    • LolWatTurtles

Why does everyone keep getting thumbs down? ._.

      • Shadriczo

Their are fan-boy gamer trolls among us, so keep your eyes open, cause now they know that the Wii U is getting popular now-a-days so they’ll do nothing but thumbs down comments to get attention.

  • BlueBerryShadow

I hope its a twitch shooter like Geometry Wars, and Super Stardust. Will be keeping an eye on this indie gem.

  • Mikey

Not a fan of shooters. The only one I’m interested in is if they ever announce a Star Wars Battlefront 3.

    • SteampunkJedi

They really should make a SW Battlefront 3. I think that would have a lot of potential.

  • Mr Dog

Anything coming to Nintendo Wii U is interesting to these bunch of fan childs

    • *Sigh*

Or, maybe people like to keep an open mind rather than say it’ll be garbage before they’ve played it? These “fan childs” are still a hell of a lot more mature than you, sir. Go troll somewhere else, your input isn’t needed here.

      • ZER0C00L

When did troll become such a popular insult, its really not very good.

    • Mikey

      Ignorance is not bliss.

  • gPadWatcher

The more we see indie and mobile developers working on games for the Wii U, the greater we see some of the most unique downloadable titles coming up for the Holiday season and 2013!

  • SteampunkJedi

Looks interesting. I can’t really judge it without more info. And what’s 2.5D?

    • brickster

2.5D is like super smash bros or kirby and the crystal shards.

      • SteampunkJedi

Sorry, but I haven’t played any of those games. But I looked it up, and thanks for the help. From what I read, it means the background moves at a slower speed than the action. (As it would in real life.) Is that it?

  • in the know

vgleak specs all but confirmed guys ubisoft employee c.v on a intern web site clearly states gx 2 api and 32 mb edram for gpu and a tri core cpu

looks like vgleaks specs are correct clockspeeds still un known

  • SegaLandResort

Are you guys kidding me? PixelStudios is great. Yeah they are an indie developer, but pixel is the one who made the masterpiece “Cave Story” if you havent tried it your missing a hell of a game. You can get it on WiiWare/3DS EShop. Or you can get it on PC just look it up. Anyone who is a fan of retro games like Mario, Zelda, or Metroid will love it. Im not a fan of shooters, but im sure if Pixel is working on it, itll be worth playing, and itll probably be a great game.

    • Boxman

i believe your thinking of “studio pixel”

  • AKA-Link77

They gave “Fox” steroids… now hes a “Beast”. XD

  • Nintyfan

Great! The more indies supporting Wii U storefront, the better! To be honest sometimes indie games are better than an actual 1st or 3rd party game!

From looking at the artwork above, it looks pretty darn cool. HD would look awesome!

  • LibertyZero

StarBeast logo reminds me of the good, ol’ Gamecube on startup.

  • The incredible sandwich

    cooooooooooooooool
