Finally, after much anticipation, Nintendo has set a date for the Wii U price and launch date unveil: September 13, 2012. The company has announced that it will hold a special press event in New York hosted by Reggie Fils-Aime. Reggie is expected to unveil the final Wii U details, inducing price and launch date. The Wii U has long been rumored to launch on November 18, 2012, at a $299 price point.
Now, Nintendo didn’t specifically say in their announcement that the event will reveal the Wii U price and launch date, but everything is pointing in that direction. The whole purpose of the event is the Wii U, and the company has a history of revealing launch details at special events. Last time Nintendo and Reggie held an event in NY, they revealed the 3DS price and launch date.
For the Wii U, the only things left to reveal at this point are the price, launch date, and launch games. And perhaps the system specs, but those will likely be unveiled once the console launches and someone decides to open the box to see what’s inside. Other things Nintendo could potentially unveil are different Wii U models and colors, and of course some more details on the Wii U accessories (including the price of those).
