ZombiU runs in 1080p on the Wii U

Ubisoft's survival horror shooter will run in 1080p full HD on the Wii U.

One of the most anticipated Wii U launch games is Ubisoft’s ZombiU. The survival horror shooter has gotten plenty of coverage over the past few months, where we’ve seen lots of screenshots and trailers. Now we can confirm that the game will run in full 1080p HD on the Wii U. Another Ubisoft title, Assassin’s Creed 3, is rumored to be running at 1080p as well.

Ubisoft has also released some brand new ZombiU screenshots, showing off some new environments and a few new ways to use the GamePad (you can use it spray paint tags, apparently!). You can find the screenshots below, and be sure to check out the latest trailer here.

Icredible how detailed the textures are and how much depht there are in the colours and lightning. The picture with Tower bridge looks like a Rembrant!

  Indeed , bare in mind aswell , this game has been mostly developed with early dev kits . So it won’t suprise me if this game doesn’t even show half of what the wiiu is capable of .
  The games that come in 2014 will be the ones when we say ”the ps3 would of imploded if it tried to do that”

    yeah the ps3 can’t even handle 1080p upscaling most games slow down and have horrible frame rates. At least 360 can upscale. Wii U is a beast. Outputing better than some computers.

        As a hardcore gamer I’m excited about Wii u rendered even (im 40 and never done b4 lol). But unfortunatly its not competing against ps3 in 2014 it’ll b going against ps4. What sold me was I’m ready for something different that does not require standing to play. Not bashing the Wii but after 10 hrs on my feet at work I wanna sit. Zombiu is exactly what I’ve been waiting for. Will I get ps4? Depends on what they do with it

Lol yeah thats a beast alright. Go check what the ppl who have played all the versions of the new games on each console say. If anything Wii u doesnt look better than any of them and some wii u versions look worse.

Awesome , the fact the wiiu has a FULL 1080p HD game (not upscaled) at launch is incredible and proves it is Pretty darn powerfull .

This will only add to how good this game is !! And luckily for me I just pre pre ordered the Deluxe Zombiu Bundle from my local games Dojo

  Yea, apparently you can customize your weapons to make them stronger, things like magazine capacity, single barrel to double barrel etc.
  
  You also have player skills which can be upgraded as you use weapons increasing accuracy, reducing reload time.

  By the time it got to 11 my once strong and capable body was just a ruined mess .

no current gen game runs at 1080p natively without some form of upscaling done by the system. I think this news was hoped for, but never expected, since Nintendo themselves stated that their first party games will only run in 720p natively. If Assassin’s Creed, ZombiU, Batman and maybe Mass Effect can run in 1080p, then that would be a huge accomplishment for the system out of the gates..

  Actually its just their 1st party launch titles that they said would run in 720p. The “Super Mario” series and “Zelda” series could still be 1080p

  I believe they confirmed somewhere that Mass Effect will be 720p unfortunately, but from what I’ve seen the rumor of 1080p for Creed and Batman still seem to be legit, so….keeping fingers crossed!

So…a currently unreleased launch HD title for a console superior to that of the 360 and PS3 runs in 1080p…but a title for a previous generation console that has been released for almost half a year (perfectly allowing the developers to understand the Wii U’s features and capabilities within that gap between the game’s initial release and the console’s launch date) remains only 720p? EA…EXPLAIN!!! Don’t want to sound unappreciative of having ME3 on Wii U, I’m grateful but Wii U is definitely more than capable of running ME3 at 1080p!!!

While I’m very glad that this game is so anticipated, I prefer non-horrific games. For anyone who likes this type of genre I think it will be an awesome game.

  The same question was asked to frozen bites and they say tha puting a game in 1080 was just not a few changes. But have to do to the sise of the textures what ever that means

    They are probably saying that if they put the game in 1080p, you will notice the individual pixels in the textures. If you notice each individual pixel in a texture, then it would ruin the illusion of having “crisp and fully defined” texures. The game wasn’t built to be 1080p, so they think it is best to keep it at its designed 720p.

i think people misunderstood my comment above. I was saying no current gen games (360/PS3) run in 1080p, they are only upscaled to look like it. The fact that Nintendo has a few games already running in 1080p is a very good sign for them.

can someone reply to my question…is1080P is only good if you have a huge TV..other wise the graphics looks same sharpness if I play it on smaller TV? or does 1080P make the game look better? or just sharper on big screen? cause my GOW 3 looks great on composite cable on 21 inches but crappy on 30 inches LCD same cable… lol

  The game look sharper, more detailed and yes, looks better in 1080p. You will not see the difference in a smaller TV, let say a 32 inch LED/LCD TV run 720p compare to 1080p reso. You will see the difference if you have 46 inch – 60 inch for 720p compare to a 1080p.

  As televisions get larger, the gap between pixels increases. Therefore, it is far more essential to pack more pixels into a larger television than a smaller television.
  
  You’ll also notice that while composite cables are recognized as 480i; it’s a bit of a stretch to say that. They barely fill out 360 interlaced pixels.
  
  Strictly speaking, the number of pixels does not make the game ‘look better’ actually. Instead, it smooths the image out over a larger surface area. It’s the same idea as a photo. A 3MP picture looks just as good as a 12MP picture at a smaller size. As you blow it up, the 12MP maintains smoother edges and sharper contrasts.

1080p looks great, even on a smaller screen. Obviously it’s harder to appreciate the differences on a smaller TV, but overall everything will look cleaner and sharper and more vibrant, even with a small screen.

But a bigger screen never hurts.

  4K TV is very very expensive technology for now. I think 3 – 4 years from now… this will be a new TV for the consumer.

have we got a source for this, acIII has been confirmed as running at 720p not 1080p. I am getting a wiiu day one but am keeping my expectations on the graphical front very realistic (especially for the cost of the machine). I do not believe that zombiu will run in native 1080p if a first party 2d scroller does.not…

Though there isn’t a source, you’ll notice that the new screenshots from Ubisoft are in 1080p, when before they were all in 720p.

  id wager your tv is 1366x768p iv never actually come across a 720p tv real old hd lcds were like 1024×720 but 99.9% of non 1080p hd tv sets are 1366x768p not 720p

A lot of other sites are referencing wiiudaily about this claim but no one can seem to find the source. I take it this whole thing is just a big lie to bring in the hits. By the way even if the Wii U upscales the game to 1080p it doesn’t mean anything unless the game is being rendered at 1920*1080 resolution.
