First Wii U TV ad airs in the UK

The very first Wii U television ad has aired in the United Kingdom.

Nintendo has aired the very first Wii U TV ad in the United Kingdom on Channel 4. The 60-second spot shows off the new console, its controller, features, and some of the games. The games showcased include New Super Mario Bros U, Pikmin 3, ZombiU, and others. The Wii U will be out in the UK on November 30, at £249. This TV ad, and others, will be shown on the UK airwaves until launch. Check out the full ad below, and let us know what you think of Nintendo’s marketing approach!

  I’m British and I have to say that this ad was SO poor. I was expecting a lot better from Nintendo who seem to need the Wii U to be a commercial success. Before anyone accuses me of being a ‘hater’, I have actually pre-ordered mine already and would be getting one anyway, but if I didn’t know much about the Wii U, this ad would not have really inspired me to get one.

I loved that part . All in all, though, this commercial does exactly what it should. It tells the consumer right from the beginning that the Wii U IS a new console. Then it goes on to show what you can do with it. Awesome!

I thought the commercial was pretty good.

It stated everything it needed to, (You know, about it being a NEW console) and showed some of its cool features.

I feel like they need to show some quality games afterwards, like NSMBU and Pikmin 3, to show the processing power and strong 1st party titles.

Then, of course, the 3rd party titles.

Then the non-gaming stuff, like the parts of the controller, Miiverse, TVii, etc.

Nice job Nintendo! Keep it up!

the asymetric play idea is total bs. it´s annoying to look forward and backward all the time or put the controller in front so that you aren´t able to see whats on the big screen. the positive thing is the mobile gaming idea. so it´s ok, to have a ds-wiiu and for real playing a real controller.

I saw this ad last night, so exciting, I wasn’t expecting it
This was quite a good ad, showed of the good Gamepad features like off TV play and real time stuff from ZombiU. The only things wrong with it was it didn’t show of the gameplay or graphics that much (they should have shown one of the epic tech demos from E3 2011) and I also feel they could have shown people using the gamepad, Wii remotes (they were only shown for a second) and Pro controller to show it allows for all styles of play. But I suppose there’s still time for that, and the graphics and gameplay will be shown off when each game is given its own ad.
A good commercial all in all, I just hope they’ll keep it that way when the games are shown, it really pissed me off with what they did with the Wii commercials, take Twilight princess, I wasn’t a Zelda fan when it came out and the adverts made what would later become one of my favourite games look slow and dull. They spent all the time showing a guy on a sofa swinging the remote with a couple of seconds of gameplay footage. When what they should have done is shown off dramatic cutscene clips, and fighting and stuff.
In short, what’s a better representation of a good game & more likely to grab your attention?

Not a bad advert on the whole. Yeah they could have shown more of the games but the purpose of the advert was to emphasis the uniqueness of the Brand New Console. My guess as to why they didn’t mention NIntendo and only Wii U is maybe because Wii is a strong enough brand and its quicker and more memorable than Nintendo Wii U. The guys voice was very home shopping channel though.

  I thought this was a good ad, not great but definitely not bad either. I think they should have shown of the different ways to play Wii U (Wii remotes, pro controller in addition to what we already saw) They also should have shown more gameplay (ZombiU is a prime candidate, and we only saw a couple of seconds of it) as well as the graphics (The E3 tech demos shown just for a moment would have peoples jaws dropping left, right and center) aside from that good job.
  And with those “Wii would like to play ads” they probably would be great for selling the consoles but the problem is they used them for selling games as well – check out my mini-rant about Twilight Princess a few comments up! I think they should use a couple of different approaches to adverts to appeal to everyone – Gameplay & graphics centered ones for hardcore gamers and the more relaxed, comical “Wii would like to play” stuff for the casual crowd. This would also reflect how well Wii U caters to different tastes.
