The team behind Kirby’s Epic Yarn for Wii is working on an equally-adorable Yoshi game for Wii U.
During the most recent Nintendo Direct Satoru Iwata announced the game and gave a little background on its development, as well as showing off the first gameplay footage.
The footage shows a very similar art style to the team’s previous game (perhaps that same yarn wizard has come back to lock Yoshi in a sock this time), and – if the footage is indicative of the final game – it seems to feature the same platforming, jewel collecting gameplay.
Mario veteran and the director of Yoshi’s Island and Yoshi’s Story Takashi Tezuka has been revealed as serving a supervisory role over the new game. This will be the first Yoshi game released for a home console since Yoshi’s Story in 1998.
Yoshi is seen in the in-game footage unravelling a yarn shy-guy with a well placed boot, but the presence of the flutter-jump is yet to be confirmed.
