New platformer Oliver & Spike heading to Wii U

A brand new platformer with a twist is under development from the folks at Rock Pocket Games. Dubbed Oliver & Spike, the game features co-op elements and a unique twist: dimension jumping to solve the various devious puzzles throughout the game. Check out the video below to see just what I mean.

Pretty neat, huh? The developers are targetting Wii U, PS3 and Xbox 360 as their release platforms, but since the game is being developed using the Unity engine, it’s possible we could see this on Android devices like the Ouya. There’s no word from the developers on what they’ll do to make the game stand out on the Wii U, but we’ve reached out to them and will let you know once we hear more. In the mean time, enjoy these videos that show a bit more information on the dimension switching aspect.

Well that is a buy for me

  • RetroSquid

I love the Unity engine. Just seeing what people are capable of… :)

Like the Sonic Fan Remix, people should check it out!
Had my eye on this in the Unity community for a while. :)

This game visually looks great and has a fantastic gameplay idea. I will most likely purchase this when it comes out.

  • Metal_Man_v2

Looks interesting, impressive visuals and gameplay ideas.  But it jumping between dimensions sounds more like switching between 2d and 3d.  This looks like jumping between parallel planes in a world.  Sci-Fi logic.

    • Johny

actually parrallel lines/alternative worlds are basicly the same as different dimensions.

what you were talking about are the space dimensions, which are indeed 1d 2d 3d 4d and defining space

      • Metal_Man_v2

        duped me

      • Metal_Man_v2

I understand the fictional meaning of dimension.  I meant that from watching the video, I was expecting the gameplay to jump between 3d and 2d, a great idea for a game.  The game still looks cool, but my dabbles in Sci-Fi caused me to expect something different.

  • RyuNoHadouken

must buy for me! neat gameplay mechanics, pretty visuals and im sure a fun, quirky soundtrack will be scored for it

I think this game looks pretty good and could be a lot of fun, dunno if I’ll get it, but it should be on my “might get list.”

  • Mark Thom

OMG that look realy f@ckin COOL!!!!!!!!!

  • Jonn McNally

I like the graphics. Reminds me of Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy.

  • Guymelef

Looks promising! And the fact that it comes to Wii U just makes it better.

  • Gabe Hoffman

Navigating a chasm by switching into an ocean dimension. Genius!

  • The_fuzz_buzz

    Totally getting this…

  • NeutronTT

Trying to ban me? Good luck!

LOL This is the idiot that called F-Zero a Wipeout clone.

      /facepalm

F-zero came out YEARS before Wipeout and even the producers ADMITTED the game was inspired by F-Zero:

“Nick Burcombe, the game’s future designer, was inspired to create a racing game using the same types of vehicles from his experience with Powerdrome, F-Zero and Super Mario Kart.”

Couldn’t be happier that platformers are getting so much love in this gaming world over consumed with first person shooters and the like. My favorite genre is back with a vengeance.

    • Elem187

Agreed. I have been playing shooters since the very first FPS came out on PC in the early 90’s (Wolfendstein 3D)

After 20+ years of that genre I think I am burned out on them… (I still play a few, Mass Effect 3 is fantastic, and I’m going backwards and playing great Wii games like the Metroids)

One genre I’m really enjoying right now is puzzle/platformers.

      • Sidney Majurie

Yeah, I love Metroid and Mass Effect as well, but don’t see them as your typical shooter because of the exploration and story emphasis of those games. Totally agree :D

As much as I love Puzzle/Adventure games, can we step into some other genres for the wii u. Trine 2, The Cave, and now this. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still gonna buy it! :p Buuuut I don’t want my small collection of wii u channels to just be this. I don’t constrict myself to just these games either. I own all but that bird game (eshop downloads). Didn’t catch my interest. Not complaining, just an observation. :]

The game itself looks pretty interesting too!

  • Old McGroin

I’d love a game like Geometry Wars on the Wii U. Kinda getting sick of platform games.

developer specializes in advergames….bah.  hopefully theyre doing this to be more free and do what they want

  • RattleGore

    This looks coooooooool…

  • Rocksalter

Hrm… A platformer where the main character carries an animal in his backpack… I’m sensing some sort of reference here

ignore this guy. He’s a well known troll. move along

  • http://www.mpt-online.eu/ Sylux

Hehe here he says looks like shit and somewhere else on ps360 boards he says “drool this looks awesome” atleast that won’t surprise me. I guess since there is so little XB/PS news fanboys like him need to blow of steam and doing so on WiiU site, he’s in love with N and WiiU but he has to act like he doesn’t care while for real he thinks amagad WiiU is OSM!!!

  • Captain Falcon

    What did he say? :S

  • NeutronTT

    Faggot tried ban me!

  • Captain Falcon

    Nevermind -_-
