Despite recent reports, and despite the complaints from certain gamers, the Wii U has a very strong lineup of upcoming games this year. In total, there are over 30 confirmed games coming out for the Wii U in 2013, with many more which are yet to be announced. We’ve compiled a top 10 list of Wii U games with a confirmed 2013 release date.
10: Wii Fit U
As core and hardcore gamers, we wouldn’t think much of Wii Fit, and it’s not a Wii game that automatically pops into your head when you’re thinking of must-own Wii titles. But the fact is that Wii Fit is the third best selling console game in history, having sold over 23 million units. Wii Fit U will be released this Summer, and will be fully backwards compatible with the Balance Board from the original Wii Fit. RELEASE DATE: SUMMER
9: The Wonderful 101
Formerly known as “Project P-100″, Wonderful 101 is a quirky action/strategy game where the player controls a large group of super-heroes as they battle an invading force. Wonderful 101 was one of the very first Wii U games to be showcased, and captured everyone’s attention with its hectic gameplay and colorful art style. RELEASE DATE: SUMMER
8: Aliens Colonial Marines
While Aliens Colonial Marines will be released on several platforms, developer Gearbox has stated that the best version, and the best looking version, will be found on the Wii U. Gearbox has been polishing Aliens Colonial Marines for the past few months, and we’re excited to see how it plays on the Wii U. RELEASE DATE: FEBRUARY 12
7: Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
The epic JRPG will arrive on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS in just a few months, and players will be able to use a cross-play feature to play with each other. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is already out in Japan, which means you can check out some awesome gameplay footage while you wait. RELEASE DATE: MARCH 19
6: Game & Wario
Game & Wario is another party/mini-game collection for the Wii U, featuring Wario as the main character. If Nintendo Land was the multiplayer party game for the Wii U of 2012, Game & Wario will be for 2013. RELEASE DATE: MAY
5: LEGO City Undercover
LEGO City Undercover is a Wii U exclusive, and offers a sand-box style gameplay. Set in a large LEGO City, the player is free to roam and capture criminals and solve crimes, utilizing the many vehicles the game has to offer. RELEASE DATE: MARCH 18
4: Rayman Legends
Easily one of the best looking Wii U games, at least artistically speaking, Rayman Legends was delayed from a 2012 release to early 2013. But the wait will be worthwhile, as it looks like this is the best Rayman game to date. RELEASE DATE: FEBRUARY 26
3: Bayonetta 2
Nintendo surprised everyone when they announced that not only was Bayonetta 2 coming to the Wii U, Nintendo has secured exclusive rights to the franchise. Bayonetta was an innovative third person action game released in 2009, and it will be interesting to see what developer Platinum Games has in store for the Wii U exclusive Bayonetta 2 — we’re still awaiting the first gameplay videos and screenshots, which are expected to be unveiled before E3 2013. RELEASE DATE: LATE 2013
2: Pikmin 3
It’s been almost 10 years since we’ve seen Pikmin on a Nintendo home console, and in a few months, Pikmin 3 will be released on the Wii U. Nintendo has extensively showcased the game with numerous trailers, videos, and screenshots, and it’s easily one of the most anticipated Wii U games of 2013. RELEASE DATE: APRIL/MAY
1: Zelda: Wind Waker HD
Nintendo surprised us last week with the reveal of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD. The HD remake of one of the best Zelda games will be coming exclusively on the Wii U, with full HD graphics and GamePad controls. We’re still awaiting the first trailers and gameplay videos, but luckily, Nintendo has released some screenshots for us to enjoy. On top of these 10 games, indie games are doing well on the Wii U eShop, with another half a dozen set for release in the first half of 2013. As you can see, there’s plenty to be exited for as a Wii U owner.
