UnEpic headed to Wii U some time in 2013

Nintendo loosens up as several games with adult concepts have been approved for the Wii U eShop.

Nintendo seems to have loosened up on their requirements for games on the eShops after having denied Edmund McMillen a Binding of Isaac 3DSrelease, only to accept the game on the Wii U eShop.  The developers of UnEpic, an adult-themed homage to Dungeons and Dragons has managed to secure release on the Wii U eShop as well. This comes with the promise that the team will tone down some of the adult references that are made within the game, however.

The developers of UnEpic have teamed up with EnjoyUp to bring the game to the Wii U, as EnjoyUp has previously worked with Nintendo to bring third-party titles to the eShop such as La-Mulana. Work on getting the game fit for a Wii U release begins this month and only once the process is completed will the full list of changes between versions be seen. Since the game was recently Greenlit for Steam, the adult-themed version of the game will likely be released on PC.

The game will make special use of the Wii U GamePad to display the massive inventory and likely the stats you see at the bottom of the screenshot here so that players can focus on the gameplay that’s on the TV. If you’re interested in knowing more about UnEpic before it is released for Wii U, you can watch the trailer below and check out the game’s homepage here.

What 7 MORE games to the eShop?? What wow things are getting better and better!!!

  • Mauricio Guaura

What is this “adult content”? Religious references? Because that’s not “adult content” at all…

    • http://about.me/overlordror Ashley King

For Binding of Isaac, yes. For UnEpic, gratuitous use of the word fuck is probably considered adult.

    • Nintendofreak

      feel d same way here

    • Robert Whalen

They have sex scenes (sort of) with goblin princesses, the characters gets naked and shows full frontal. That’s the adult content.

  • Nintendofreak

dere was no, nor will be another like rareware to make adult content…wonder what happened to dem havent heard of them since microsoft bought dem

    • sdmac200600

      kinectimals…..microsoft killed rare……..

  • Bibble_Bot

I want Binding of Issac for my 3DS. Ugh I hate Nintendo sometimes. Denying a great game because it’s “religious”. It doesn’t affect anyone. If you’re religious, then stay away from the game, don’t play it simple. Yet they must penalize everyone else because of certain “people”. It shows that they consider the 3DS a lot more kiddie friendly. They seem to have forgotten that they also have an older audience.

Also I heard that they weren’t even going to accept the Wii U version but Nintendo said yes only because it’s coming to current systems and apparently Next Gen systems as well and they agreed to down down some fo the things.

I’m being treated as a baby by Nintendo. I’M FUCKING 15 ALMOST 16. I’m FAAAR from the age of 5,6,7 or 8.

    • Gabe Hoffman

Mainly it was due to the controversy surrounding the game. Nintendo didn’t hate the game.

    • Johny

yup… nintendo tries to be TOO family friendly sometimes

    • MujuraNoKamen

Agreed, Nintendo is my favourite but they are often just too conservative and though I understand the need to appeal to a wider demographic and don’t like it when games be ‘mature’ just for the sake of it, sometimes it holds them back – and this article is an example of that they want to tone-down an mature game, even if they cut a lot of the adult rated content it still wouldn’t be suitable for everyone and the end result will be a game stripped of its soul.
And that Binding of Isaac thing too, I hear it’s a very underrated, overlooked game and in getting it on E-Shop, Nintendo would have quite a niche but they turned it down (??????) why, because of it’s age rating and religious themes! well age-ratings warn us of what’s in the game so if anyone was going to be offended by the game they’d realise what it’s about and won’t play it. They’ve already got download limits on adult rated games so it’s not like anyone could buy it who shouldn’t.
Nintendo may like appealing to everyone, and I like that too but turning down a game like tBoI and stripping down UnEpic is marginalising a lot of people and I guarantee you NO-ONE (apart from overprotective, health-and safety nut jobs) is pleased to hear it.
Come on Ninty, don’t hold yourself back! by the way, most of the time people call you the “Kiddy”/”Family-Friendly” company, they don’t mean it respectfully! Sort it out! allowing a few adult games to flourish doesn’t mean you have to turn everything into violent     swear-a-thon, it won’t reflect badly on you N.

      • Gabe Hoffman

This never said anything about the toning being forced

        • MujuraNoKamen

“This comes with the promise that the team will tone down some of the adult references that are made within the game, however” The article didn’t say it was forced on them but I doubt the devs decided to filter out parts of the games for the sake of it and given N’s reputation for being conservative it’s easy to fill in the blanks and safely assume N said “we’ll get it on E-Shop only if you tone it down”. I read before that N made Rare edit out parts of Conker’s bad Fur Day in an effort to be less adult, but why? the end game was still offensive and unsuitable, a couple of jokes wouldn’t make any difference so why didn’t they just let Rare go mad with it and go the whole way. No need N, no need.

          • Gabe Hoffman

I only remember hearing about something involving Pikachu that was cut and you know what’s funny? In Conker Live and Reloaded on Xbox the words shit and twat are censored out but they aren’t on the original version

“If you’re religious, then stay away from the game, don’t play it simple.”

Do people even follow that rule? this is the same thing we tell Sony fanboys to stay away from Nintendo sites, but do they?

What if Religious people want to play the game as well, and for Nintendo to do that is to take away all the references they can so everyone gets to enjoy it not just “non-religious” people.

      I’m glad Nintendo does this.

      • Adam Oliver

Or you can be religious and play the game and still enjoy it anyway not giving a crap about the references.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000137948249 Zhenya Ivanov

it’s not that easy to “not give crap” when people have a wide range of different of opinions and character

      • MujuraNoKamen

I’m religious and don’t mind a game making religious references. The way to go is not  to “take away all the references”, editing it out would only strip away a big part of what the game is about. I say If you’re religious and want to play this game, you’ve been told what you’re getting into so if you’re offended then don’t bother but don’t ask for them to edit the game, that takes away part of the game and leaves the majority of gamers with a stripped down product.

But you’re still not technically old enough to play m rated titles

    • Greg

You’re all grown up aren’t you lol

If you were mature enough to get your comments taken seriously, you wouldn’t rant like this, in fact it probably wouldn’t bother you at all.

I don’t want to be nasty, but you are coming like, wah wah wah, I want this game & I want it now, or I’m going start kicking & screaming. That isn’t mature.

  • noajh bohn

was Isaac confirmed for eshop? the article confuses me at “Binding of Isaac 3DSrelease, only to accept the game on the Wii U eShop” what game were they talking about?

  • http://www.facebook.com/Realityglitch Christopher Coonan

Officially excited. MetroidVania with stronger RPG elements, and I noticed the Necronomicon’s version off the Pentacle.

    • Old McGroin

I’m officially not excited at all. I paid a lot of money for the Wii U and all it seems to be getting is 2D games that wouldn’t look out of place on the Super Nintendo. Unimpressed.

      • http://www.senran-international.boards.net/ TwinTails

The graphics don’t matter, I prefer art-style heavy games anyway.

      • Greg

ME3, AC3, Batman AC & CoD BO all look pretty decent to me. Also wait till Colonial Marines gets released. It’s been written for the Wii U & should show off it’s capabilities quite nicely.

  • TrueWiiMaster

When did BoI get confirmed for the Wii U?

  • Retro Cool

What I do not understand is the fact they are toning down the adult references.  What ever happen to Core gamers who want that in a game to begin with?

    • Gabe Hoffman

Nintendo is not forcing them to do it

      • Retro Cool

I figured, just seems weird to me to do so, thats all…

  • El_CaRaS1

To me this makes no sens. First im 29 years old grew up with nintendo but as I grew so did my taste, so I ended buying multiple consoles just so I could get the best of both worlds (nintendo games and more mature themed games). 2 I thought that nintendo was finally going to appeal to us gamers, that grew up with them. But with the wii u been casual and hard core, and when they did ninja gaiden with extra blood, gore, and dismembering I thought they are heading the right way. But now this im confused why?

  • Robert Whalen

Pretty sure they wouldn’t allow full frontal of a guy on the PS3 or the Xbox either. That’s the adult content they are referring to.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Chris-Bingham/100000260255063 Chris Bingham

I think you spelled “Xbox 360 gets the childish version, since the majority of Microsoft fans are overweight cry babies who still live with their mommies” wrong again

  • Nintendofreak

seem u never have played online

Neutron, boy hypocrite.  Stay the f**k away from this Nintendo themed blog site.  No wonder you have cancer.

Same with Sony and Microsoft fanboys. You really are failing today miss troll

  • Srpg2ishere

We get the fact that you like sony and microsoft, but you should not troll on other companies. It does not matter what side your on. Trolling just makes you look immature. And let’s all be honest. Trolling on a site where nintendo fans talk about upcoming news just makes you even more immature. I can’t believe you would stoop to that level.

  • SoulSilverZero

    Wow, this guy’s totally “mature”.
