Capcom answers the question, ‘Just how big is Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate?’

Capcom goes over just how much new content, weapons, monsters and gear are available in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate.

So just how big is the world of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate? Turns out it’s pretty damned big, according to Capcom. The Monster Hunter series has gotten some flak from some people for being a rehash of games previously released on different systems, but Capcom has done enough to Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate to make it stand out in the crowd. Two new rare species are in the game, including fan-favorite Plesioth and the brand new Brachydios.

Not to mention, the cross platform play between 3DS and Wii U adds a new dimension for how the game can be played. So what are those stats that make Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate more than just a port of Monster Hunter Tri? Check it out:

There are 339 new quests not counting free DLC quests and 2042 pieces of new equipment in the game, with each category of weapon having over 50+ new incarnations. That brings the total number of weapons in the game up to 1398. There are also 1028 new armor pieces, bringing the grand total up to 1663.

There are also three new areas for monster hunters to explore, including The Tower, Misty Peaks and the Tainted Sea. It seems Capcom has done a great job turning Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate into its own game instead of it being the port that everyone is claiming. What are your thoughts on the new content? Are you excited to get that new gear? Let us know below.

I didn’t like the demo… but the picture at the top makes me want to buy this anyway!

    • http://www.facebook.com/dominik.fohl Dominik Fohl

Well if you’re new to Monster Hunter in general, the demo really sucked.
But the game itself contains some good tutorials for the basics.

      • GermGerm

Is there any kind of story line or is it just, KILL! KILL! KILL!

        • TheLast

          Yeah

          • GermGerm

Yeah what?? Haha it wasn’t a yes or no question!

          • http://www.facebook.com/dominik.fohl Dominik Fohl

The offline-game has a little story-line, but nothing too complex ;)
Online is KILL KILL KILL xDD But MH was never about story, but being with friends and play. MH4 will feature a more complex story though, but that’s future music for europe.

          • Elem187

Its not really a story. Its more about character development like most RPG’s…. The gist is you keep getting your ass whooped by a monster until you learn its mannerisms and moves, and you also learn how your character operates. The enjoyment comes when you figure out how both the monster your hunting works and how your own combat works and when that happens, a huge rush of dopamine and sense of accomplishment rushes over you…. You begin to feel like a badass, and then you proceed to cut parts off the body of the monster and make armor out of it. So you can walk around wearing the monster you conquered as a badge of honor.

          • TheLast

LOL Sorry, I meant to say it has a small storyline that isn’t too complex. For the most part, it’s exactly like some of the other replies say it is,

    • D.M.T

You just proved the point i made in another article. Gamers wanting to buy a game just because of the graphics. If you didn’t like the demo than chances are you wont like the full game either.

      • Johny

not true. because the demo was REALLY bad if that was your first monster hunter experience… the demo obviously wasnt made with begginers in mind.

        • darkstar18

well this demo was my first time EVER playing a MH game it felt weird at first but i did have alot of fun playing it lol so i know ill love this game

          • Johny

you definately will :) good for you.. mh is one of those games with a huge learning curve, and some very unique and different aspects that might seem very weird or inconveniant for alot of people not familiar with it xD … but thats all part of what makes monster hunter such unique and amazing experience :) but you DO gotta give it a chance and put some time in it…
also consider yourself warned… this game is more addicting than crack.

        • Elem187

This is the first time I ever played a MH game and I loved the demo…. I was frustrated at first, spent 3 or 4 hours getting upset I couldn’t kill this stupid bunny koala looking thing…. and then it just hit me, I was subsconsiously learning the bunny/koala hybrid’s movements and tells, and I was able to start dodging properly, getting a few wacks in, move out the way, wack wack wack… and then I did it.He was conquered. I had a this rush of dopamine of accomplishing a major task…… I want that feeling again, so I’m buying the game on both 3ds and wii U.

          • Johny

and THATS what mh is all about :D when i played it for the first time on Wii back then, i was the same .. the game was DIFFERENT than others and i LOVED it! x)… oh if there were more people like you out there and gave this game a chance and not give up :)….
and yeah dude… we could say you were “enlightened” xD … yup.. thats why monster hunter is so popular… its full of those moments…
most people just see and say : OMG unconveniant long animations with actions!! and you cant cancel !!!, OMG no HP bar with a monster !, omg the gameplay is broken the game sucks badly…
still i think the demo could be better done for people who play the game for the first time.

      • GermGerm

Well I’ve heard a lot of people say the demo doesn’t do it justice.

      • WiiUltra

What!? Dude by no means are those graphics the best they can be. I agree with your point and trust me this is a game where gameplay>graphics. I’m sorry I have to downvote, that demo is just plain bad.

      • NkoSekirei

dude demo is like a beta version not the complete fixed up version were about to get tomorrow i like using wii mote controller for it like on monster hunter tri

      • Will

That is a lie, while I found it entertaining the demo didnt do the game justice. If you didn’t like the demo I am not saying go out and buy it since your opinion could still be the same but rent it and get a proper look at the game before making a decision.

      • ICHI

I dont think thats always true some demos just show off the wrong element of a game. This games graphics are not great and the demo should have had an online hunt to really show all the prancing and sit down meal rituals. It would have helped new players meet older ones and learn the game properly. Also the touch screen in the retail game does a massively better job than in the demo and you get walked through personalising it too.

    • Adrian

I also didn’t like the demo. So I won’t be buying the game. Which is a shame because the game sounds awesome. But if the demo can’t show me that the game is any fun then I really have no reason to think it is fun. Maybe if I get a chance to play the actual game then I will change my mind. Infortunately, I don’t have any friends who have a Wii U, so that is unlikely.

      • http://www.facebook.com/dominik.fohl Dominik Fohl

dude give it a try and watch maybe some walkthrough or Let’s Play videos of the beginning of the game. The demo was shit and the game’s really amazing, doesn’t just sound like that it is ;)

if you still don’t like it don’t buy it, but MonsterHunter was never something that expressed from just watching of you don’t know how it feels..

      • Retro Cool

You should rent the game through redbox or something (if they have it or if you have it in your area) that is what I am going to do because the demo left a bad taste in my mouth. Tho’ everyone is saying that it is a great game.

        • Adrian

I’ll think about that. The other thing is I don’t want a grinder or a time waster. While Monster Hunter looks great, it’s starting to also sound to me like White Knight Chronicles online play, which was actually the worst thing ever. Seriously.

          • Elem187

I read there is some grinding, but only early in the game…. as it moves on, there is just mostly learning your monster that you are hunting inside and out.

          • Retro Cool

Target is having buy 2 get 1 free, if that is the case MH3 will be my free one and I will still rent it still and if I dont like it, i’ll return it and get a different game instead

        • ICHI

I’d be interested to know how you got on. I wasnt too sold on the demo but did play tri a bit at a friends and knew enough that i bought the game anyway. Hope you enjoy it too as im currently hooked and cant wait for the kids to go to bed so i can play some more :-)

      • Adrian

Who are the losers who downvoted me? Seriously, you guys need to understand the purpose of the downvote system.

      • Elem187

I second the idea of renting it, you might just like it if you give a chance….. I can tell by the demo I’m going to go gangbusters on this title for the next 6 months easy, even though this is my first monster hunter game (I was a huge WoW addict, so the graphics don’t bother me at all)

    • HylianHero7227

Yea I am in the same boat. Everyone was making this sound like such a big deal. When I played the demo I was like… Are you kidding me, this is horrible. The pic does make me want to reconsider though.

      • Michael Jurado

take it from me man i’ve always picked street fighter over any other fighting game I play mega man games to the point where I can run levels and boss fights without taking any damage yet monster hunter has an accumulative > hours played than any other genre capcom has to offer. I won’t lie to you it’s a little slow going at first because, you are learning how to hunt and survive but once you kill your first big monster and start to actually hunt it, it becomes extremely fun especially online :D

      • Elem187

How long did you play the demo? If you play it long enough to learn the easy monsters moves, it becomes extremely satisfying to accomplish overcoming your frustration and confusion.

    • WiiUltra

The Demo is horrible! But trust the Monster Hunter fans, the game walks you through all the basics and has in-game hunter notes that you can read to understand almost everything you need to know. The Demo threw you in there unprepared.

      • Elem187

I’m so excited, this is my first monster hunter game, but I actually loved the demo. So I ordered both the 3DS and Wii U version.
The demo was frustrating at first, I couldn’t figure out for hours on how to kill the first easy monster, and then bam I figured out how to do it and the sense of the accomplishment was amazing. I cannot wait to experience more.

  • Michael Jurado

and just like that another 600+ hrs are going to be invested to monster hunter lol

  • D.M.T

Guys, IGN just reviewed this game. Buy it if you want it. IGN gave it a 8.8 out of 10.

    PROS:

    - Fantastic combat

    - 100+ hours of quests

    CONS:

    - Awkward online interface

    - It feels like Monster Hunter Tri

    • dylanbob121

I hate IGN,They always are in love with these stupid FPS and doesn’t give a crap about the good games.the last decent IGN review was for SS

      • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

Except they’re not. they just gave lego city an 8. that’s good and fair

      • Sdudyoy

I think 8.8 is a pretty good score, Just because they have a different opinion does not mean there review is bad.

        • RoadyMike

yea,THIS review was ok,but on pretty much everything else, they just look for excuses to not give a great game a 9 or 10 if its not a shooter
You can’t trust IGN(orance) when it comes to review scores

          • Metal_Man_v2

It really just depends on the reviewer. With a large website like that, you have a lot of different reviewers that score games on different principles (some being rather subjective than informative). Though they have been doing some rather nonsensical stuff, like reviewing both versions of a Pokemon game when it comes out. –__–”

          • Lazara the Last

Yeah, I really like Rich and Audrey from the IGN Nintendo Team! :D

          • Chris Traill

No game should be getting a 10 in my opinion that means a game is perfect in every way and lets be honest no game is or ever has been.

      • Gregory Edcius

well i read the review and the reviewer really seemed to love monster hunter it was a good review to read a true fan

      • sithWiiU

SS was overrated, but of course you would think that was the last decent scored game.

        • Elem187

          You misspelled “Underrated”

      • Adrian

I don’t trust “professional” ratings in general, but I especially don’t trust any of the sites that rated ZombiU low. I trust average user rating a little bit.

      • Will

News flash not everyone likes what you likes, shocker I know.

    • WiiUltra

So the cons aren’t really cons. Thank you IGN haha.

      • Ibi Salmon

Awkward online interface isn’t a con?

        • WiiUltra

If its anything like the Wii one, I have no problem with it. Awkward is a feeling, therefore an opinion, so depends on how you think.

          • Ibi Salmon

All right then. I never played a monster hunter game so I wouldn’t know.

    • Michael Jurado

I really don’t like IGN either the only thing right they do is the consistency and speed at which they give reviews other than that they pretty much blow

      • mchelski

I still believe they are better than gamespot

      • Arthur Jarret

And the girls they put in their vids… that’s the only reason I even watch some of their reviews.

    • NkoSekirei

ill give it a 9.0 that be my review for monster hunter ultimate its gonna be one epic game cant wait to to play it tomorrow and lego city undercover too and might also pick up need for speed as well

    • Eli Valentin Villanueva

IGN is really awkward, because the pokemon black and white series, the first ones only got 7.5 and the second part 9.5. And they really give high scores to shoters lately :/. I hope they don´t become a gamespot, they sell their reviews for money.

      • Metal_Man_v2

That’s because the Pokemon Black/White 1 were hopelessly linear, had less than visually attractive pokemon, and a region that felt it wasn’t really utilized well.

All of these problems were corrected in B2/W2 with the addition of older pokemon, a path through the region that WASN’T A STRAIGHT LINE, and new areas that gave the region a much needed variety that also filled up the map better.

That is why they got different scores, they were different games entirely.

      • Tecpedz94

Too late all game sites sell their reviews for money but they add some personal honesty in them the best reviews are the ones made by actual people not doing it for profit like when you go on gamespot there is a section for you to rate it and read what people thought about the game

    • bizzy gie

Hey, if “pro” is the opposite of “con”, then what’s the opposite of progress?

      • Elem187

LOL, as much as I loathe congress, the far great danger to our country today is in the executive branch by a country mile.

      • Ryan Dugger

        Someone’s been watching Family Guy

        • bizzy gie

Yes! Glad somebody got the reference.

  • Squid

I think it looks cool, but it’s not me.

    • Michael Jurado

it’s not for every it’s for those who have a killer instinct and seek giant monster blood Lol

  • Nintedward

The game is awesome , nuff said. It is a much enhanced port. Kind of classifies as a remake I guess ;) . Definitely getting both versions on friday :D

    • Michael Jurado

I look forward to hunting with you Soon XD

  • Johny

god im SOO hyped for this.. i played my 1st mh game on wii (mh3) and since then monster hunter is my favourite game franchise ever… i’ve spent over 700 hours on mh3.. CANT wait for this one!

but i dont really understand the sentence : There are also 1028 new armor pieces, bringing the grand total up to 1663. …
what ? grand total of WHAT ?

    • http://twitter.com/DannyMann_96 Daniel Manna

      im assuming total armor pieces

      • Johny

        oh.. derp ^^… of course

    • Michael Jurado

Hell yes Monster Hunter is the freaking Shit !!! I love killing me some monsters WOO

  • http://twitter.com/DJDALLYDEE Dallas Scott Cooper

I was underwhelmed with the demo. Don’t plan on buying.

    • Old McGroin

I put over 100 hours in to Tri on the Wii and I’m majorly looking forward to this game but I have to say I thought the demo sucked, it really doesn’t represent the overall experience of MH properly. It’s all about preparation, the hunt, and epic hour long battle, claiming the spoils and then using parts of the monster to craft new armour and weapons. Best co-op game I’ve ever played but if it’s not your thing it’s not your thing. Wouldn’t judge it on the demo alone.

    • Michael Jurado

the demo really did suck but hey it’s a demo what do you expect i mean if the demo taught you how to do everything there is in the game then the demo would only have space to tell you to kill a raptor if that lol

  • Wayne Beck

The Demo was pretty weak, but only because I couldn’t figure out what the hell I was doing. Killed the hype a bit, but I still want this game pretty bad.

    • NkoSekirei

usually beta versions of the game suck balls but the complete versions are the best some are and some arnt but i think monster hunter ultimate will turn out awsome

    • Letha1Rage

I have only played parts of the training on mh freedom unite for the psp and that was a long time ago yet I loved the demo I dont get what was so bad about it?

      • Wayne Beck

It doesn’t tell people who do not know how to play, how to play. If someone can’t just pick up a Demo and know how to play, the Demo is useless.

  • mchelski

I would love to buy it, but my budget is tight nowadays, I have decided to buy lego city, so I guess I’ll pass, I decide to buy one game per month, so if in may we have nothing worth it (April is injustice) I might buy it then

    • Michael Jurado

yo man I know what you mean I still haven’t gotten that batman game because, I got ACIII and looking back i wish i got that batman game i mean ACIII is great and all but … its the god damn batman lol

      • sithWiiU

Should have gotten it on PS360 where it’s only 30 bucks new with all DLC.

        • Elem187

yeah but the pS360 version is sub-hd resolution upscaled. The Wii U version is full native 720p… so if you like inferior, sub hd games, then get it on PS360.

  • dylanbob121

It is like this game was made for me….RPG are my favorite genera. With all these weapons…its just…wow

  • Lewbob

The demo does no justice the fun of the quests are preparing and the actual spoils of battle which you dont see in the demo. I have no doubt that the game is going to be amazing. I have played monster hunter since the first on the ps2 and im just counting down the hours :)

  • Rafael Saldana

Lol IGN fair? Since when is it a bad thing that it feels like tri? That’s the reason I’m getting it, Because it feels like tri.

    • Michael Jurado

exactly i’ll go as far as to say IGN doesn’t know crap >.> I mean you give a character a FPS point of view and that alone makes IGN say this game is amazing 9/10 lol

      • Jimmy D. Fugate

They also thought bc ZombiU was in a first person perspective that it was L4D or Call of Duty with Zombies….they said that it was difficult and slow paced (exactly what survival horror is…) and gave it a 6.3/10… I was smart to not listen to their review.

        • sithWiiU

Dead Space 1/2 is not slow. Stop being a Nintendrone.

          • Elem187

All three dead spaces are crap…. its not true survival horror. Jump scares are for uncreative piles of dung… also known as deadspace.

  • Jimmy D. Fugate

What are 5 games you’d like to see come to the Wii U? This could include HD remakes, ports or future games. Can be first or third party.

    My five:

    1. Left 4 Dead 3 (or ports of L4D and L4D2)
    2. Grand Theft Auto V
    3. Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch
    4. Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD ReMIX
    5. ZombiU 2
    Anyone else?

    • http://www.senran-international.boards.net/ TwinTails

They never asked anything about that.

      • Jimmy D. Fugate

        I realize.

    • Letha1Rage

I would defenitly want to see Ni No Kuni on wii u but the others I could play on my xbox or just do without in general

    • sithWiiU

1, 2, 3, 4 will not happen. Just go buy a PS360, it’s cheap, and will more cost friendly than a Wii U that has no games, presently, or future too.

    • Adrian

I want your 3,4, and 5. Also FFXV. Any cross platform game that came out, I would get the Wii U version for the Gamepad play experience.

    • Elem187

I like this list… although i’m not crazy about Kingdom Hearts… I’d like to see WoW ported to the Wii U though. The gamepad would be perfect.

  • Lusunup

    Copy & Paste….

  • Lusunup

Ive got something to say so is this a port of the 3ds? or tri?

    • http://www.senran-international.boards.net/ TwinTails

      HD version of 3DS.

      • Lusunup

so Im guessing theres no arena mode splitscreen like in tri…

  • IMMORTALREDGUARD

i already have MH3U. i ordered it from the capcom store back in February and they shipped it early so i got it on the 15 of march

    • Elem187

so jealous… My copy is arrives at 6:30pm.

  • kevin nun—-

Man, every time there are releases of Wii U games, a bunch of people say they are going to buy it at launch, where do you guys get all that spare money? Savings? Ugh, I need to save up for college so I am probably not going to buy any Wii U games anytime soon, but this game looks awesome, and from i hear, it should be amazing.

    • AAAkabob

Yes people are capable of saving money when they hear about a game. $30 a paycheck and you got yourself a game a month.

      • GermGerm

Unless you get paid once a week! :)

        • Letha1Rage

There are other expenses besides games

          • AAAkabob

What I’m saying is this guy makes a big deal of people having money, but I believe you can afford anything in due time if you budget and budget well.

    • Eli Valentin Villanueva

Well depends on your time, money and personal issues, because you can buy new or wait some time to hear reviews, but you can also buy new just same from a piggybank :)

    • Elem187

after you get out of college and become a big boy and get a big boy job, you can start buying all sorts of fun things… its the perks of being an adult, you are almost there.

  • rysthof

Way too much loading! A current gen game that has to load like every 500 yards whats up with that. I couldn’t get into the demo simply because of the amount of loading screens you look at.

    • http://twitter.com/Jonuthin Jonathan Suedmeyer

Even though it has a lot of new content, it is still essentially an up-port. The loading screens last for about 5 seconds and once you get into a battle, you rarely have to see one unless you let the monster escape.

      It really isn’t that bad…

  • Desmond Lum

Considering that monster hunter tri had about 50-60 missions, and about only 500 pieces of equipment, this is a freaking giant.

  • Ibi Salmon

Great! I’ll probably be buying this for the 3DS.

    And, no. I don’t have a Wii U yet.

  • Only a few are true gamers

Ive never owned any of these games so is it worth buying..Let me know i may get it tomarrow

  • brian murphy

i wanted to get this game but the demo sucked hated the combat styles felt sluggish wish it was more fluid like id play the hell out of it

  • http://twitter.com/Ahiam94 Daniel Hatton

Sir, you had my curiosity, but now you have my attention.

  • TheLast

    But it’s just an up-res 3DS port.

    • Elem187

Annnnddd?? Your point is? I preordered both 3DS and Wii U versions. This game is amazing.

      • TheLast

I love MH I’ve been playing it for years, I just wish they made an game from the ground up for the U. :(

  • Zombie_Andrew

Trouble is with the tiny arenas, I’m in a world I actually want to explore, I don’t feel this game is very large, it’s just got lots and lots of tiny levels. Where I’d rather have a massive open world with all those arenas available at the same time.

  • manowaffles

Why can’t I download it yet?

I want to hunt monsters now!

    • Elem187

      12pm EST in North America.

  • MissispiGator

  • uPadWatcher

    In denial much, Dave?

  • Michael Jurado

hey david that’s fine with me I don’t need noobs who can’t appreciate a great game on my online anyway XD have fun with RaiderZ I look forward to hunting you soon HEEYAA!!

  • Nintedward

Uhuh , Lego City and Monster hunter Ultimate and NFSMW U are just about to launch , lol. The Wiiu is king , even if it doesn’t sell amazingly during its lifespan , deal with it.

Nintendo is doomed!!! *3DS the fastest selling console so far*

  • Jimmy D. Fugate

Dude go back to your PS3 forum…
