Nintendo reveals first Virtual Console games for Wii U

virtual-console
Many of you have been waiting for the Wii U update that’s coming this week. Nintendo did a bit of hinting over the weekend, posting pictures of previously confirmed virtual console titles like Excitebite with “2 days” written underneath it. Many people–myself included–took this to mean the update would be released after the maintenance period yesterday.

Unfortunately that turned out to be untrue, as Nintendo was simply planning to reveal the titles that will be available on the virtual console once it launches. The new speculated launch date is Friday, with the update coming on Thursday. We’ll keep you abreast of those developments. In the meantime, here are the first Wii U virtual console titles for release from Nintendo’s Facebook page:

  • Donkey Kong Jr
  • Ice Climber
  • Excitebike
  • Super Mario World
  • Balloon Fight
  • F-Zero
  • Punch Out
  • Kirby’s Adventure

Many of these have already been made available through Nintendo’s .30 cent promotion and you can currently get Kirby’s Adventure for that price. Let us know what you think of this reveal in the comments below.

yep and it’s still a great game

    What happened to metroid….

    • jjmesa14

Metroid is coming in May as part of the 30 promotion.

      • Magnus Eriksson

        NES Metroidnot Super Metroid.

        • jjmesa14

Yes NES Metroid is missing. It’s fine for me though cause I have it for the NES.

    • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

Super Metroid is coming in May

  • Byaaah31

Kind of a disappointment. First, they made us believe that it would be released. Second, they are only releasing four games that weren’t already available through the promotion. Third, we still have no definite release date of the virtual console or when more games will be made available or if Gamecube games will part of the virtual console.

    • AAAkabob

As a rebuttal to all of your complaints.

1)They didn’t make you do anything, did you see any other videogame site jump to conclusions? Maybe that was a sign.

2)This is a valid complaint, but the Wii shop is still available and FULL to the brim with VC and other games

3a) We know it will be this week. 3b&c) Valid, but maybe we should wait till it launches before questioning it this much.

      • queisuseless

“did you see any other videogame site jump to conclusions?”

Yes. Every single one of them. It was not a long jump.

        • AAAkabob

Really please link me everyone of your sites, better yet start going to reputable ones.

          • Peter Rogers

nintendolifes website was rife with rumours…ps, why r u being such a dick?

          • ICHI

Joystiq and cvg at least as well as here and nintendolife, maybe even ONM too? Just search you’ll find them.

      • Byaaah31

        1) They made it appear that the virtual console would be released today, instead it was just this announcement.
        2) Wii virtual console games can’t be played on the gamepad.
        3) If it really is in two days, why can’t they just tell us that it will be available Friday? Everyone has been wondering since the Wii U was announced if Gamecube games will be playable.

        • thedeciderU

quiet… a little too quiet. hopefully it’s for the right reasons and there will be a surprise from nintendo. i cannot wait for this update – looking forward to somewhat reasonable load times.

          • Byaaah31

love the star fox reference :)

    • jcnba28

Can someone explain to me once the Wii U Virtual Console launches does this mean we can upgrade all of our VC games to the Wii U gamepad straight away or do we have to wait for the game to be released on Wii U VC first before we can upgrade?

      • http://www.facebook.com/steven.mahl.5 Steven Mahl

Any game that you bought the the Wii’s VC you can redownload for a discounted price. I think it’s like 1.25 USD or something. I mean… Once they’re available on the Wii U VC.

    • Nintedward

Until Saturn , Dreamcast , N64 and Gamecube games are up and running I’m not impressed.

”Here’s some NES games from 1988 to play with off screen play” Woopty doo Nintendo. How about Waverace ? How about F-Zero GX ? sigh…

No offense to the NES it is EPIC but we need more Variety of console , especially some of the more modern , 3D consoles..

I couldn’t have said it better myself. U even mentioned my favorites F-Zero GX & Wave Race.

Don’t forget Hydro Thunder from Dreamcast! And also, although I might be the only one, I would love to see MJ Moonwalker from Sega Genesis make its way to the Virtual Console.

        • Nintedward

Imagine how amazing it would be to have those 2 games being playable on the gamepad in 16:9 :O

    • discuss

Nintendo’s getting quite good at that lately.

  • jjmesa14

I like how Nintendo hyped up 4 games in order to hype up the Virtual Console which now has no hype.

    • Magnus Eriksson

Yeah, well they are hyping an update too :D

  • tomtank91

Sounds good but I thought there was SMB2

  • scarlet

DARD GUMMIT! THIS UPDATE BETTER BE HERE ON THURSDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Dan Jacobson

the Updates on wednesday, vc goes live on thursdatpy. It was in nintendo direct.

      • scarlet

        Okay, So today! :D

  • Dorfdad

    zzzzzz

Honestly what a crap release list! Granted im happy but was expecting like 20 titles. Considering these are all on Wii already!

    • Gabe Hoffman

Were you seriously expecting them to have every game out on Wii U day 1?

      • http://www.facebook.com/zach.o.kaczynski Zach Oliver Kaczynski

20 games i hardly “every game” and shouldn’t be that hard to emulate 20+ y/o games

      • http://squisheddiorama.wordpress.com/ Jiggs KC

On Wii U day 1, i was expecting a solid system that matched the speed and power of the systems on the market. I was expecting 3rd party games that were at least equal to the what was on the market for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, if not the same games that are coming out on those systems as they transition into “next gen” systems.

I was expecting Nintendo to have a whole lineup of their own games (classic games reimagined like Super Mario Brothers, (which they did), Link (which we are all waiting on), Super Smash Bros., (which we are all waiting on), Metrioid (which we are all waiting on), Megaman (which we are all waiting on), Pikman 3 (which we are all waiting on), Mario Cart (which we are all waiting on), Castlevania (which we are all waiting on), Final Fantasy (which we are all waiting on), SEE A PATTERN?

And yes, i was expecting the WiiU, and Nintendo, to have come up with some type of system that has ported their games from past systems (namely NES, SNES, N64, & GC) so that we can play them on this system; at a profit to them, mind you – because we are purchasing the games again, but at a much lower reduced price of something you’d see on iOS or Android.

Let’s be honest, it isn’t day one. We’ve been waiting. If you don’t have a system, you don’t have a system. Just announce, “Look we paid a bunch of people to create a system, but honestly, they played video games all day instead.”

But to pretend you’ve been putting together this awesome system, and then ask people to wait for it after they’ve purchased it – AND THEN to get all pissed when people are like “wuh happened?” – that’s, well that’s a bad business strategy.

Afterall, we aren’t shelling out $200. it’s quite a substancial amount of money, and there are other ways to game. This is not 1995. We have iOS, Android, WP, all of which want to run their own lil gaming platform through these handheld smartphones we are all carrying. Add an AppleTV, or a GoogleTV and you have the ability to real quickly have apps playing on your tv. So let’s not act like they don’t have competition, like they don’t have to step up their game. And let’s not act like they haven’t been working on this stuff for years.

        • uPadWatcher

Coming from a cheap nutjob who’s complaining about not having enough Virtual Console games. Just relax. Give Nintendo some time and a chance for Christ’s sakes. It’s not the end of the world.

          • Flamingoathere

But how long should we wait? When my teacher asks me to present my project Ive been working on for the past month, and I tell her to just wait, you think she’d be happy? Unlike that situation though, Nintendo is getting paid! They should be able to meet their deadlines, and be held accountable for not doing so.

I know that Nintendo is going to unveil a lot of stuff at E3, and rebuild up the hype for the Wii U, but why should we have to wait for E3 for everything?

          • uPadWatcher

And giving me three thumbs down won’t solve a damn thing. Grow up and have patience.

          • Flamingoathere

Nice constructive response to our discussion. Why should I continually be patient and have the attitude that something is coming eventually, when it should already be here? Some of us want to be proactive consumers and hold companies accountable for not meeting expectations with their products.

          • Only a few are true gamers

Facepalm! Again trolls like or should i say fake gamers like yourself have no power here now go back to your little fanbase channel and keep crying poser boy…LOL

          • Cerus98

You can’t compare a project for school to a console. You’re required to do your homework. Nintendo is not required to do anything.

          • Flamingoathere

No, you’re not required to do your homework, there is no such law. There is however negative consequences, just as their is negative consequences for a company failing to meat deadlines. Also, employees are under contracts, while students aren’t.

          • Cerus98

Who said anything about it being a law? Not me. But if you don’t do the work you don’t pass and you don’t graduate. What deadlines do you speak of? It’s Nintendos prerogative to release these games, the deadlines, if any, are their own. Employees are under contract if they are a contractual employee, salaried employee doesn’t equal contractual. Most are at will. Students on the other hand essentially ARE under a contract because if you don’t do the required work then then school is not required to give you a diploma or degree.

          • Flamingoathere

You said that students have to do homework, which isn’t true. I refuted that because there is no law that states students must do their homework, though I suppose you could also argue that even laws don’t make anybody do anything, because we have free will. Sorry if that went over your head.

The deadlines I speak of are deadlines for products to be finished, released dates, and expectations. Nintendo does in fact make it’s own official deadlines, but when a company has to continually push these deadlines back, it causes frustration among the consumers, like you see in these comments.

Are we supposed to just be forever patient, with no idea when many things are coming? And when we do get a date estimate, how can we trust it after it keeps getting pushed back?

          • Cerus98

You’re confusing, federal, state and local laws with requirements. Kids will get picked up by the cops for truancy so the law does in a way say you have to go to school which in turn means you have ondonthe required work in order to graduate. Law, maybe not but its not really the same since laws are made to protect citizens and a person failing to graduate really doesn’t hurt anyone.

You do realize you’re arguing about a deadline that never existed right? A few websites took some information wrong and made announcements. Their mistake, not Ns.

          • Jon

I think he is talking about the deadlines in general, there has been a lot of delays. There was a release date set to excitebike for April 23rd that would indicate the VC being released on the countdown that was on the facebook page, but now it was removed later on the 22nd.

          • Flamingoathere

It looks like you’re having a hard time understanding what I’m saying, for whatever reason. Nowhere in any of my posts did I say going to school wasn’t a law. I merely used the analogy of school projects to compare them to the Wii U.

The deadlines never existed? Was information not posted on their facebook page regarding the VC games? Was Pikmin 3 not pushed back multiple times? Are we still missing features on the Wii U that are supposed to be what differentiates it from other consoles and is supposed to innovative? Or am I mistaken?

          • Cerus98

I will definitely give you P3 since its my favorite game and was originally supposed to be a Wii release. However if it means its a better game and does the franchise justice then so be it. It’s certainly not the first game to be delayed. As for the FB info, that’s been proven to be a picture for the announcement of the game lineup. Sites like this took it to mean something else and wrote articles assuming something else.

The Wii U does have innovative feature that differentiate it from other consoles. Are man incomplete? Of course, but that happens in every console. Would you rather it be done fast or right?

          • Magnus Eriksson

Not the end of the world. But Nintendo had their chance over and over again. Every news about the Wii U turns out to be pure disappointment because they pretended to be something they are not. There is no reason for customers “to wait and see”. Nintendo is not delivering as promised. The four VC games proves how ridiculous this is.

          • Veries Seals

Actually Nintendo never told us it would be out today this site assumed it. but after all it is a news and rumor site. We should stop blaming Nintendo for rumors we are feeding into. Just like this site said that Injustice would be delayed here for another week and they were sitting pretty in stores day one. I checked Nintendo’s site and their official Facebook page and these rumored dates are no where to be seen check them out for yourself. We are getting mad at the wrong people. If you get mad at anyone get mad at the person who wrote the article and got you hyped up for nothing. Nintendo said spring 2013. Last time i checked it is still spring 2013 for the two updates that they promised. Come on y’all.

          • Only a few are true gamers

Dude you claim to be a true nintendo fan and bash me…stick it

        • Magnus Eriksson

          AMEN!

      • Fred

No, but I expected more than 4

    • Fred

I’m happy to See Super Mario World that’ll probably be the only one I buy this week.

  • http://www.facebook.com/ryan.quatier Ryan Quatier

What is with Nintendo? Very disappointed

  • Gabe Hoffman

Please quit your whining people. They cannot just put VC titles on Wii U at the snap of a finger they need to update each game for Miiverse and off TV play as well as test the game to make sure it runs with no bugs. This is easier for NES games than SNES and N64 or GBA games. Quit sidestepping reality

    • http://www.facebook.com/Pandaman Alan Poole

If it takes Nintendo a large team of salaried employees to figure out how to emulate 20+ year old games while coding a message board template for each, let me know where I can apply to work for Nintendo asap. I’ll be “hard at work” every day.

      • AAAkabob

Oh yea I’m sure you know exactly how to code for Miiverse and are a pro at working w/ the Wii U

        • http://twitter.com/PetikularWhitey Duke Nukem

It is literally nothing to make a new board on Miiverse. It’s not as if they have to actually code each board uniquely. Also, it takes them six months to test eight games? That’s undeniably pathetic, if that was the case. But it’s not. It’s Nintendo being retarded. For the seventh year in a row.

          • Cerus98

Five months and they aren’t just working on VC stuff. Duh.

          • http://twitter.com/PetikularWhitey Duke Nukem

            So Nintendo can’t multitask?

        • Magnus Eriksson

Probably not that difficult. You can easily find all NES games on flash, it wouldnt even be that big problem to make the Wii Virtual Console games to work on the pad off-TV play. There is only one reason Nintendo didnt do it. MONEY! They will continue to rerelease the very same game at a very slow pace that you end up buy them all AGAIN at a reduced price of one dollar. That is at minimum 400 dollars for me as I have about 50 VC games.

          • Fred

I don’t have a Wii or Wii VC games, but I do have a Wii U so I’d like more of these so that I can buy them the 1st time. Especially to hold me over until some of the full games I want come out

          • Magnus Eriksson

You know you can access a full library VirtualConsole from the Wii part of your Wii U?

          • Fred

yes i know and I considered it, but I decided to wait so that I don’t have to pay the extra money to transfer them over when they become available on the Wii U. I’ll buy Super Mario World this week though.

          • Cerus98

They don’t have to let you have them for free. Entitled much? Lets see you walk into a store, buy a DVD and demand the blu ray copy for free. Same thing here. You don’t have to buy the games again. You can launch wii mode and play them free of additional charge. Want new features on a new platform? Then you can pay the damn dollar that a business who has to pay salaries and bills rightfully deserves. You are not entitled to cross buy games. Just because PS3 did it doesn’t mean Nintendo has to.

          • Magnus Eriksson

BluRay? What are you talking about? This is about 30 year old (ancient) games that Nintendo got money from over and over again.

          • Cerus98

I don’t think I can dumb it down much more. What I’m taking about is people feeling entitled to get everything they want for free just because they bought something before or bought a different version. Why do you think that just because you bought an NES game back when it was new or on the Wiis virtual console that you should get all future versions for free?

Again, do you walk into Walmart, buy Casablanca on VHS 20 years ago and then walk back in 10 years later demanding the movie on DVD? Do you then walk in 5 years later demanding the same movie on Blu Ray? No you don’t. That’s called an analogy and its used to explain something or make a point.

Here’s another. When the Star Wars hits theaters again years later do you expect to see it for free because you paid for a ticket and watched it years earlier? No again? Wow so you wouldn’t do any of that but you expect to get every version of every game for free. How do we know you even bought the cartridge version when it was new. Why should you get to pay 7$ for a digital version when other people had to pay full retail price for the real deal years ago? They didn’t have to let you upgrade for 1$. They ARE in fact entitled to charge whatever they want. You don’t have to buy it again, no one is holding a gun to your head.

          • Magnus Eriksson

No you are right. You are way to intelligent. You must be my leader. Let me follow you.

          • Fred

And you can buy 30 year old movies on Blu-Ray so the comparison works

      • Cerus98

Coding isn’t easy work whether its a 20 year old game or a brand new one. You’d be bitching if they rushed them out and had bugs.

    • http://twitter.com/akkunari Kaji Ura

They didn’t have a problem with releasing Wii U system software that was and still is buggy and slow.

      • Magnus Eriksson

This is such a true fact that truthness shines from it. Fanboys excuses Nintendo over and over again for not keeping promises with their games by stating “they only want good games with their names on it”. But crappy consoles ar ok?

        • zerooooo

I have a question… What sells consoles? Thats right games and the 3ds is proof of it. Thanks for your shitty conclusion though.

          • Magnus Eriksson

WiiU dont have games. The only hype today is about an update thats going to fix something that have been shit with the console for six months… It took f***ing six month to fix that problem on a console based on last gen tech (altough a lot more expensive than its competitors). Six months to get VC up and running. Four shitty games after six months launched at the same überslow pace as the Wii or the 3DS did. After six month on the market, two in development since first announced, they were only able to get to of their own games out – of course two relativly simple games. After six months they havent fixed the TVii. They doesnt announce any games. They where unable to reach is own goals TWICE… and to you who believes this is comparable with the 3DS, its not. More comparable to the VirtualBoy.

          • zerooooo

You know yeah because the wii u’s first 4 months were better than 360 and ps3 in terms of sales(economy was better then) and games dont come in a snap. Im not going to be the despreat one who complains about things that can be fixed every console has some isssues. What sold 3ds’s are games, which are coming. Dont tell me a game like pikmin 3 and mario kart wont boost up wii u sales because MH3 did and it doesnt even have that kind of hype. Your right though I cant compare until then but its bound to happen and we know it. Not to mention the wii u’s infrastucture isnt finished.

  • LopsidedPasta

Well this blows. WHERE IS ZELDA???

    • jjmesa14

The Legend of Zelda would be great. I have it for the Wii and would definitely pay a dollar to play it on the GamePad. Another game that I wish they had for the Wii U is Solomon’s Key but I think that it wont be on Wii U VC for a while.

      • jjmesa14

Heck I’d pay more than a dollar. I don’t want to give Nintendo any ideas though.

  • Zuxs13

These are some great games. But I would have loved to have seen more for the launch.

  • tronic307

    We’ve been TROLLED!!!

    • Guest
    • Nintedward

      lmao ! +1

    • Game Master

Maybe everyone on this site has, but I haven’t. I know the date it’s coming out, that date is tomorrow with the V. C. the day after.

      Start at 17:30

  • Jesus Reyes

Would love to see lagoon for snes or mystic quest in the V.C. :)

  • Stephen Baxendale

I was kinda hoping for Mega Man after I spotted him in the sizzle real.

  • DJKeens

The line up is rather disappointing. I don’t expect every title that existed but more than this and titles that weren’t already released would be nice. Especially titles shown in the sizzle reel.

Though on any of the VC, I can have patience. What I’m losing patience with is the update. Just release it and hold off the VC until it’s done. That’s fine. But I want the update or at least a solid release date for it.

  • Magnus Eriksson

Wow, really? Four new really old games. Nintendo is on fire thats for sure. This Virtual Console is really, really promising. This prooves Nintendo cares about their customers. Thank you Nintendo for this four games after six month waiting. You are the best.

    • TrueWiiMaster

It’s only four because they gave us the other four almost free, with several more almost free games to come.

      • Magnus Eriksson

No no, that is pure BS. They do this to make money. The 30p games is of course a part of the same plan.

        • TrueWiiMaster

Of course they do this to make money. They’re a business, not a charity. That doesn’t change the fact that the cheap games were awesome.

    • Cerus98

Six months? The console has only been out for a little over five. They have other priorities too ya know.

      • Magnus Eriksson

What other priorities do they have than getting games out there? There is basically nothing with this console that isnt disappointing.

        • Cerus98

Wii U games, console updates etc. As much as I like the VC I’d rather there focus be on new games right now.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Yeah, about that… Did you see any?

  • http://twitter.com/PetikularWhitey Duke Nukem

I now truly believe “abysmal” is the correct word to describe the Wii U. We didn’t need a lot of games, just good ones. But nope, we’re stuck with ExciteBike, Ice Climbers, and Donkey Kong Jr. again. Meanwhile, it takes me five minutes to download a .rar with hundreds of NES games. This is why Nintendo is doing so poorly.

    • Magnus Eriksson

This is a very good point actually. Nintendo could easily released all the libraries they had on Wii VC on the Wii U at launch, instead they choosed this path of greed. If they used the money on reopening negotiations to get back DKC games or the like they would be excused. But what they do here is pure greed. If a flash programmer can bring basically the same stuff for free, then Nintendo easily could do the same.

      • http://twitter.com/BlakeGentry777 Blake Gentry

Nintendo owns the DKC games, not Rare.

        • Magnus Eriksson

So why are they not on VC? They have to solve this matter somehow. Or maybe they took it down becaused some planned DK-bundle that costs shitloads of money for nothing (like the 25th anniversary bundle for Mario the other year).

      • Cerus98

You think it’s so simple that they can just flip a switch? You have no clue man. Because a thief chooses to create an emulator for free doesn’t mean Nintendo is required to not charge anything for their work of adding features and improvements. Once again, you are NOT entitled to jack shit. You have the entire VC library available to you – it’s called Wii mode. Oh, you want added features like off TV play, restore points etc? Well then sit the fuck back and wait.

        • Magnus Eriksson

Yeah, actually it IS that simple. Its not rocket engineering. If Nintendo wanted they could do this in a heartbeat. They dont want to, they want your money. In the end of WiiU cycle we will AT THE BEST have less/about the same amount of games that is on the Wii mode VC on the Wii. Thats like 80 NES games, 65 SNES, 20 N64. How many games did they make did you say? Oh over 1000 NES, 500 SNES, hundreds of N64?

          • Cerus98

You want them to release every single NES, SNES and N64 game? Um – many weren’t big sellers, some I’m sure the licensing is expired and that’s just way too much focus on old stuff (That is still fun) when development on the Wii U lineup this year is far more important. However programming does take time. The Wii VC and Wii U VC aren’t the same software wise.

You say they just want our money. Which really isn’t unreasonable since they are a business but if that were the case then why DIDN’T they release every NES-N64 game in the Wii VC? You say they can do it in a heartbeat if they wanted to but dont because they want my money. Releasing them all would have gotten them more money don’t ya think? Logic isn’t your strong suit I see. Pitty, Spock would be very disappointed in you.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Yaaaaawn! You are so logically wrong it gets boring (also bringing this up is like a little boy teaching a dad how to make babies. You are a little boy, im a dad.). Explain how it is greedy moneymaking by releasing those games that didnt sell to well (also a false statement because many of their best titles is unreleased).

      • Veries Seals

Yeah, I guess they could have Magnus, and they are super rich, so I guess they could give us all a free Cadillac with each console purchase too. Look bro lets be realistic for a sec. XBox 360 nor PS3 had all of their features at launch either. They were added by updates later. The PC has been like that for years as well, add features by update when they have been created tested and the released as extra or new features after market. I have all of the consoles and had them at launch, so i can back that. So whats wrong with Nintendo doing it? This is the 1st time they have even really had a machine that updates that can and does keep up with the current and future consoles which will do the same as the Wii U may I add and update and change over time. So whats your point?

    • Cerus98

So your argument is based on illegally downloading games to emulate on a PC that has had years and years to work out some but not all of the kinks? Fail.

  • http://www.facebook.com/mike.stanley.35175 Mike Stanley

I don’t see why they don’t release the hit games like Zelda on virtual console , it’s almost like they write down every game and draw out of a hat…. :p don’t get me wrong i love my wii u, and I’ll continue to buy every game as released lol

    • Adrian

      ….every game?

      • Magnus Eriksson

Yeah? EVERY GAME??? That is like 16 VC games in two years or so. You must be crazy buying every game at this speed!

        • Adrian

I took his “every game” to mean literally every game. Not just VC games. Even if it was just VC games, it would be ridiculous to plan on buying them all.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Sorry my sarcasm, tried to be funny. Anyway, I would love to have alot of VC game. I think I have about 50 games now, and not planning to stop. But I dont think I will care to make the transfer from the Wii part to the WiiU. Im only going to buy the games once, and N. is a little bit to greedy here. I would probably not have bought WiiU at all if I knew they would do this.

  • TrueWiiMaster

That’s pretty disappointing. I’ll be updating Super Mario World day 1, but that’s it. I was really hoping for A Link to the Past and/or Donkey Kong Country.

  • Wiiluigi

    This lineup sucks.

  • Only a few are true gamers

Well i wish it were friday But there are not alot games to chose from i have already got on the wii u so far im think donkey kong jr and smw but ice climers i’ll pass

    • uPadWatcher

You’re not a true gamer to pass… and you need to work on your typing skills. Accepting the lineup and waiting on what’s to come is a true gamer. You, otherwise, are not.

      • Only a few are true gamers

Meh! Now your grabing straws..But keep dreamking on being a real gamer and thanks for the laughbale comment and huge fail..hahahaha
and people agree with me look you have 4 thumbs down so have fun with that
and hell your like that turd i sh@t the other day but in piles of sh@t

  • DragonSilths

Should the list have been bigger? Yah probably. At least 15 games. But my god everyone on the planet is so fucking ungrateful. How about Nintendo cancels the Virtual Console and you get nothing? How does that sound? You think games from back in the 1990′s are on Nintendos MOST IMPORTANT TO DO LIST? No. They add some whenever they get around to it. People complain we want new IPs yet you also beg for more of the old games via Virtual console. Nintendo can only do so much you know. So fucking sad. Be greatful you get these games.

    • Jess Purdy

I will express my “gratitude” by paying Nintendo money for their product.

They aren’t doing us a favor, you nut, it’s a business.

      • http://twitter.com/SeroReviews SeroReviews

You’re so wrong I had to login just to say that. When he said “gratitude” he didn’t mean Nintendo is doing us favors, but that Nintendo is cool enough to sell us old classics with new features. This is not something that everyone does. There are lots of games that people want to play, but never get re-released in any form. We’re all wanting to play good oldschool Nintendo games, and Nintendo’s selling it to us. This is what we should be greateful for. We just need to have a bit of patience and stop thiking that just because we’re paying for something we can complain about every single thing as if we’re the kings of the world. We’re paying for a console, not for a ticket to Complainland. Geez, try to understand what people say…

        • DragonSilths

Thank you someone actually understands things lol.

    • Agent721

Nintendo should do what customers want!!! You’re rant is ridiculous…I love Nintendo, but for gods sake, they need to respond to customers want! Nintendo is a business…not a charitable organization! As a customer going on three decades, I can fucking complain all I want!

      • Cerus98

Business want to make money and they make it by doing whats best for them, NOT what YOU think you’re entitled too.

        • XelaFury

          Well said buddy, well said.

        • Jon

yeah… but the problem with this, is if they keep pissing people off or give people more expectations than what they deliver, they won’t be making money because people will eventually just give up. A marketing strategy better would have been to have a bunch of great games released (of course not all) and then throw the not so popular ones in while releasing great titles over time. You want to get people to the VC at the launch so they’ll go back later, not give crap which they will remember from before the second time they go on.

      • DragonSilths

Yah you can complain but you wont get anywhere by complaning. And Nintendo DOES listen to its fans a hell of alot more then Sony or Microsoft does. And Nintendo doesnt have Money as their #1 goal. They know that money will come their way cause they know just how damn good they are. If your a buisness like greedysoft where all you care about is making money at the end of the day then I want nothing to do with you whatsoever. Nintendo’s main goal is giving people a fun time and putting a smile on their face. You know how much money Miyamoto makes? Not as much as you would think. If your in the gaming industry to make money then your in it for the wrong reasons.

        • http://www.facebook.com/john.pope.18007218 John Pope

Nintendo is all about money. Pokemon cards zelda plusie toys mario keyring and now nfc pokemon toys. Dont kid yourself that they carr about you they care about your wallet like all the others

    • Magnus Eriksson

      Wow, this s ridiculous…

  • Fred

I’m definately buying Super Mario World. I’m NOT buying Excite Bike, but what about Ice Climbers and Donkey Kong Jr. Can someone tell me about those games so I’ll know if I should buy them (yes I already have the others as I’ve bought every 30 cent game)

  • bizzy gie

I see you updated the ‘Popular Wii U Games’ section.

  • José Abraham Cervantes Posadas

    Nintendo is tooooooooooooo slooooooooooow :S

    • zerooooo

José Abraham Cervantes Posadas with the long name and very despreat attitude.

  • tronic307

    Nothing to see here, folks!

    • jjmesa14

Before the picture loaded it was just a white box. That was pretty funny.

  • Jim Mack

Another Nintendo disappointment. Pick up the pace boys! Us loyalist have been patient but patience lasts only so long. How about that TiVo update btw!!!

    • jjmesa14

Well let me tell you what happened to the TVii DVR controls. Oh wait I can’t because even though they were supposed to be released on launch day I am still unable to access them. Just another Nintendo failure if you ask me. I bet they forgot about the DVR controls because they were too focused on emulating the measly 4 games for the VC launch.

      • Cerus98

Four games? Can you count? The console is five months old. Most of the announcement features for the PS4 won’t be available at launch, how bout you go troll that website then?

        • jjmesa14

I believe I can count. Balloon Fight, F-Zero, Puch Out, and Kirby’s Adventure have already been released on the eShop. Therefore 8(the number of games in the VC launch line-up)-4(the number of games that have already been released)=4(the number of new Wii U VC games). Have you learned addition and subtraction yet? I believe that they teach it in kindergarten. In this case you either forgot, in which case you should probably go back and retake kindergarten, or you haven’t gotten there yet, in which case I am suprised that you are commenting on this story.

At least Sony didn’t say which features were going to be available/unavailable at launch. Nintendo said TVii was going to be available at launch and it is still not a complete program after 5 months of the Wii U’s release.

          • Cerus98

Just because some aren’t new to you doesnt mean they aren’t new to all the people who just bought or will be buying the console. Or those that haven’t bought any yet for whatever reason. TVii was released in the “launch window” which is what they mean by launch. But I think you confused available and fully fledged out. Just because some Sony features will be available at launch doesn’t mean they’ll be finished. Both the PS3 and 360s dashboards went through MANY changes adding and improving features over the years. To expect any console to have everything 100% done in such a short time frame is insane.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1105728542 Jake Barnett

It is kind of disappointing, teasing everyone with that sizzle reel; there were many things shown that have no correlation with what was actually given.
I was pretty excited about the classic megaman games.

  • DemonRoach

SMW if it was 1 dollar, but I’m sure that game will be +7$..

  • dubYA

I hate to say it, but this list is pretty disappointing overall. The only real gem on the list, that’s not already been made available, is SMW. I’ll be downloading that for sure, but it’s a little odd that they’d build hype for a list this small.

Hopefully, they’ll be adding more games to the VC on a weekly basis. The 3DS VC started off slow at first too, but now it’s got some real momentum and the library keeps improving. Let’s hope the same will happen with the Wii U.

  • Squid

Friday!? *Rocks back and forth* too long…

  • http://www.bagofgames.com/author/jennero/ Jennero Rossi

Kind of weak, but at least there is Super Mario World.

  • Agent721

Only the most blind Nintendo die hard can give this line up, the thumbs up. How about something for the hardcore…Dragon Warrior? Ninja Gaiden? Faxanadu? Aerobiz?

    • Cerus98

Hardcore is a gamer invented term and changes meaning based on who you ask. As if calling yourself hardcore makes you a better gamer than a “casual.”

  • jcnba28

Can someone explain to me once the Wii U Virtual Console launches does this mean we can upgrade all of our VC games to the Wii U gamepad straight away or do we have to wait for the game to be released on Wii U VC first before we can upgrade??

    • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

I am thinking we would have to wait. Despite what others say there is probably a bit of work to make the game work with the gamepad and other features of the Wii U console such as MiiVerse.

  • Jon

only 4 new games???? what the hell????

    • Magnus Eriksson

Sucks big time doesnt it? :D

    • zerooooo

I think its fine, they are still working on the consoles stability and i dont mind beating super mario world again

    • Cerus98

Four that are new to you as a early adopter. Do you think sales just stopped after you bought your console?

      • Jon

sales were not that high when they started the $.35 cent promotion, most people probably already have 2-4 of the early games as the are now. yes those old ones should be included since they were done but 4 titles is very little for the promoting they were doing.

  • tronic307

At least we still have that AWESOME firmware update to look forward to, right?

  • ilovegoogleglass

Really disappointing, downloaded an update yesterday but not this.

    • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

The update you got yesterday brought you to 2.1.3U right??

  • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

I was hoping for a little bit more and maybe a couple surprises that were not shown in the Nintendo Direct. I will upgrade my Super Mario World and get the other 30 cent deals and I just hope it is a pretty steady stream of VC additions from this point on.

  • Cerus98

People need to chill. Yesterday was all speculation as is the latest prediction. Nintendo, like most companies doesn’t give out solid release days so far ahead of time because if there’s a delay people bitch like crazy. You all are bitching because it didn’t happen last night when Nintendo NEVER said it would for crying out loud. Companies have learned that when they release tidbits of info and something changes (EVEN when it comes with a “subject to change” type warning) they just get burned in the end. Blizzard is notorious for being very tight lipped.

As for releasing only a few games, which isn’t just for current owners by the way, there are future buyers to think of too. They don’t HAVE to essentially remake these games yet again just so you can play them on the small screen. Want that function right now? Get a 3DS. Want a bigger selection? Start your Wii mode. They don’t have to let you upgrade them for a $1 either. Cross buy is not an entitlement any more than buying a DVD entitles you to a blu ray, digital and 3D copy.

Nintendo is a business. Are they not entitled to make some money off of their work? Those that think its just a matter of slapping on a Wii U logo have no idea what it takes to program a working, bug free, socially integrated game.

My god, its like no one here has ever bought a console at launch before.

    • Veries Seals

Totally agreed Cerus98! Thats what I have been trying to explain as well. Its like when it comes to Nintendo they feel like they should give features away just because they want them right now. It takes time. Now if they release the extra stuff unfinished and update that later then they will complain about that too. I don’t know about them but my Wii U is a work of art. I have over 30 games 16 disc based and the rest purchased on E shop as digital download and they have all had updates and they work like a dream. I have never had a Wii U game drought because to be honest there never was one. The media cooked that one up and everyone followed with it. I will be honest, I can afford to buy every game at 1st day release so why worry about how many are being released per month? There are still games out there to be purchased which I am sure they don’t have. So where is the game drought?

PS and if you would like to know the truth about the other games that are coming out in ridiculous number for the other systems, look at the scores on those games and not just how many. Then tell me how many of those games that you would actually put your money on. It does not matter if they have tons of games coming out if most of them are crappy cash in games. But do what you like. I am enjoying my Wii U and will enjoy my PS4 or next xbox when they release and enjoy them all.

  • Gecko Altair

NOBODY SAID THAT THESE GAMES ARE THE ONLY GAMES COMING OUT! THESE ARE SIMPLY THE GAMES THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN CONFIRMED LONG BEFORE THE UPDATE WAS EVEN ANNOUNCED!

    • Pikachief

This is the only games coming out at launch. I’m sure there will be frequent additions, but this is the only games at launch. “Announcing your virtual console launch line-up!” sounds like this is the launch line up.

  • Silver Fox

What a joke! pathetic.. what have they been doing for 6 months?! sure hasnt been working on VC.

    • TrueWiiMaster

Well, there’s also this massive update… And the next Mario Kart, Smash Bros, and 3D Mario… And various other games.

    • Cerus98

Wow a whole five months actually since launch. Do you have any idea how long this sort of stuff takes? Apparently not. The PS4 has been in development for YEARS.

    • Silent

The fact that you are an inpatient kid is even more pathetic.

  • Scott IsMe

Reading some of the comments, people are placing blame here in entirely the wrong place. Nintendo didn’t mislead in any sense of the term; folks got all worked up by speculative reporting. That’s it.

Anyway, it’s just another lesson in serenity and patience. If you relax, get distracted by a bit of what the world has to offer, and pay only slight attention to these things, they tend to change much more quickly than you could ask for.

    • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

Exactly… In the Nintendo Direct they said update and new additions to VC next week. Then they posted they would announce titles on Tuesday and bloggers and rumor sites assumed that Monday meant the update.

As far as the VC releases go I can see some disappointment and wanting for more but I do not understand the outlash. Nintendo gives the ability to play games from the Wii natively on the Wii U and makes classics from many previous generations available for reasonable cost and all these complaints. Makes me wonder if the same people will complain when they get a new PS4 or NextBox and they find out they games from the previous systems do not play at all and how quickly they port over any digital content that you may have had on that previous system if they do it at all.

      • Gabe Hoffman

I will be laughing when people complain how they can’t play their PS3 games on their PS4 or transfer over their PSN purchases

        • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

They may eventually allow PSN purchases to come over but with the radical change in chip architecture to x86 the games will have to be remade or recoded if they do it at all. They may just say a big F U and say you have to keep your old system or buy an old system to play those games and content. I guess that is their attempt to inflate more sales and make more money.

Hey who cares as long as it has pretty graphics right? Who cares about the games.

    • Gabe Hoffman

Exactly Nintendo never said themselves that the update would be Monday. It was just speculation. And people need to grow the heck up with this VC launch lineup. Do people really think they can just put all the VC games on Wii U with the snap of a finger considering all the features they are adding? No, of course not. I just got Kirby’s Adventure for 30 cents and I plan to pick up SMW too. It surprises me how people seem to have zero patience and are being so ungrateful. Sure the initial launch batch could have been bigger but I just say be thankful and happy that we have Wii U Virtual Console now. Do not get me started on the Wii U facebook page, that place has pretty much become a troll fest.

  • Ducked

It’s been 23 days in April and still no update. This is not a good sign Nintendo.

    • Game Master

      Maybe this will help

      Start at 17:30

      • Ducked

Ok I try to stay connected.

They announced at the Nintendo Direct the update would be this week. It’s only Tuesday for fucksake. It will happen this week.

      • Ducked

Yeah, but there sure waiting late.

        • Silent

Dont you know they update their service on Thursdays?

  • Ace J

  • Shelim Uddin
    • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

Probably just a place holder date. It was hinted as a fall 2013 release. Rumors get us no where.

  • XelaFury

Seems that some of you guys don’t know the meaning of the word “patience”.

    • http://www.facebook.com/realdt David Tracey

I agree. Nintendo is not just going to put out a bunch of past triple A titles, just to bury the other ones. N64 and GBA are coming. I’m sure GameCube, Genesis, Dreamcast and others will be out in about a year

      • Magnus Eriksson

Dream on. GBA might launch in Christmas or so.

        • http://www.facebook.com/realdt David Tracey

This time next year? There’ll probably be an announcement of more VC content from other systems. N64 may come around the holidays, but GBA should be here in the late summer. I’m hoping Gamecube will round it all out for the Nintendo systems.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Love your optimism :D But I do not think so. If Nintendo have decided to make the slowrun only releasing a few NES games now and then I dont see how they could do… But If, awesome and I want the two Zeldas.

  • Pikachief

Woah Nintendo! Don’t get TOO crazy with this! I don’t know where Wii U owners will have the time for all these games you’ve been throwing at us! :P

    • Pikachief

      yes.

  • blindtiger

i hate you nintendo… remaking old games cant be that hard. wii u sucks… ea hates you. no exclusives… no third party support… no games… whats the point of getting the jump on the other systems if you dont make any games? patience my ass wii sports was great and free. nintendoland cost $60 and sucks… learn from the 3ds nobody wants cool hardware to stare at in their living room and not use… im on wii u everyday… not playing games but browsing the internet tryin to find out when theyll sell something worth buyin

    • Cerus98

Nintendoland is free in the much better deal of the Deluxe. Wii sports wasn’t included for free in all Wii SKUs btw. PS3 and 360 early adopters suffered the same lack of games five months out like we are now with the Wii U. Yeah, it’s been FIVE months, big deal. Don’t buy on launch day if you can’t be patient.

  • blindtiger

sorry just venting… ive owned every nintendo system and nothing else, except a ps2. wii wasnt even that great nintendo had/has a huge opportunity to actually get a share of the market and theyre blowing it… people arent confused about the wii u being the same as a wii… they dont want a wii u because theres no reason to own one yet. nintendo is so clueless stop wasting money on ads you have nothing to sell. ughhh why did i waste my money??

    • Cerus98

Venting you may be but really? There’s been numerous reports of people thinking the gamepad is just an add on. And Nintendo has a huge share of the market thanks to the Wii and 3DS. They’re doing just fine.

      • Magnus Eriksson

The truth is that they dont care.Maybe its a new console, maybe its not. They moved on to their cellphones, pads, etc. Partygaming with friends in the livingroom is just not the thing after 2010 as it was the half decade before. That trend is over.

  • Celtics_For_Life

    >_> Wow, what’s wrong with you?! That’s a little harsh, and they don’t even deserve it! Downvote him!

  • Aiddon

eh, disappointing but whatever. I was mostly interested in the stuff i could upgrade and since I already HAVE those it’s more just patience.

THERE U GO FOR ALL THE PEOPLE WHO THOUGHT NINTENDO LIED, it was just a rumor based on a profile image that was missunderstood, and for the people running this website, im asking to double check the things you post since you are primary source of news for people here as ive seen.

  • John Andalora

If I didn’t have a NES, SNES, and didn’t own most of these games, I might be interested in this.
