New Super Luigi U box art and screenshots

Super Luigi U Wii U box artLast week Nintendo announced New Super Luigi U, a standalone DLC for New Super Mario Bros U that features Luigi. In fact, Mario won’t be playable in the game at all. Luigi will be joined by Yellow Toad, Blue Toad, and Nabbit for multiplayer.

Now Nintendo has released the official New Super Luigi U box art, and some screenshots as well. The game looks very similar to New Super Mario Bros U, which isn’t a surprise.

New Super Luigi U will be released on the Wii U digitally on June 20th, while a boxed retail version will be available on August 25. If you want to download it as DLC, the price is $20, while the retail version will set you back $30.

Hopefully we’ll get more details and media of New Super Luigi U at E3 a few weeks from now.

That sure is a nice box.

    • LopsidedPasta

Nice? That box is downright gorgeous! Nay, SEXY! XD

    • DereX

This is the same box as Super Mario Bros U !!!!!! Stop enabling Nintendo when they produce awful games like this or they will keep producing them lol

      • Clel

        Blind, much?

        • DereX

My negative feedback is 100x more important then your positive feedback. You changed your comment!

          • Clel

            That’s fascinating.

          • Nintedward

*I am 100x more of an asshole than you* fixed your sentence for ya ;)

          • Clel

Wait wait… So that would mean that, in order for him to be somewhat of an asshole, I would have to be one at least a little bit? Because, otherwise, 100 x 0 = 0. Are you saying I’m a… *snif* *snif* asshole? *sniiirf

          • Nintedward

We all have a bit of asshole in us bro. Just be thankfull you have 100 times less of it than DereX. xD

          • Clel

I only have one asshole, sooo…

          • Nintedward

            hahaha xD , good one!

          • DereX

Will you and Nintendward just get a room already? Stop trying to belittle my legitimate comment.

          • Clel

            legitimate

            adjective |liˈjitəmit|

conforming to the law or to rules : his claims to legitimate authority. See note at genuine .

            • able to be defended with logic or justification : a legitimate excuse for being late.

            • (of a child) born of parents lawfully married to each other.

            • (of a sovereign) having a title based on strict hereditary right : the last legitimate Anglo-Saxon king.

            • constituting or relating to serious drama as distinct from musical comedy, revue, etc. : the legitimate theater.

I will assume you mean the second possible definition. So go ahead, defend your statement with logic and/or justification.

            Surprise me.

          • DereX

Man, are you obnoxious….”Conforming to the laws or to rules” and also, “able to be defended with logic or justification”.

You tell me how I didn’t do that Mrs. Adams (Sorry, I assume you are my old english teacher?)

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Saying that your feedback is more important than another isn’t being obnoxious, let alone egotistic? You may wanna call it a day.

          • DereX

It’s like common knowledge that negative feedback is more important than positive feedback…. 100% positive feedback is best for beginners to learn while experts , learn fastest with negative feedback.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

It’s also common knowledge that you should choose your words carefully otherwise you look like a douche. Negative feedback and positive are both good in their own right. Neither are more important than the other. That’s your opinion, but not common knowledge. Again, call it a day.

          • david jarman

Ok, lets look at logic here: if there is 2000 positive feed backs and 1 negative feed back. You’re telling me that a company will change for that one negative complaint and at the risk of upsetting the 2000 who were satisfied?

          • DereX

Thanks, That is exactly what I was trying to say! I guess I am the only consumer here that demands more from the 400$ I invested in my WiiU. None of you have a backbone?

          • bizzy gie

The Wii U cost 300-350 dollars.

          • david jarman

There are other games other then that and more coming out for $350 system. Here’s my question; if you knew what this nsmbu was like then why did you buy it? And if you didn’t buy it. Then how do you know it’s not fun.
See this game that is coming out it is a dlc. However, nintendo was awesome enough to make a stand alone for those that don’t like dlc.

          • DereX

You guys are relentless ….. I bought Mario Bros U; however, I rarely play it. I have owned every console Nintendo has produced since NES. That is a very long time and yet, the game has barely changed. Im starting to enjoy games like rayman origins more than mario because they pack more content in for FREE (as they should) since its such a easy game to make. Im over here saying “You guys deserve more for your money!!!”, and all of you are saying, “No we don’t!!” lol.

          • david jarman

No, all we’re saying is we liked it and had fun. We’re not allowed to do that just because you didn’t? Besides, what people are trying to tell you is this a dlc for those own the game and a stand alone for those that don’t own it or don’t like downloads. Don’t get me wrong, though. I do want something different, but I don’t want it rushed. This for most of us is a typical new console launch and this is what early adopters go through to being the first to have a new system. The better games didnt come out for Xbox or ps3 until a year after. Same with the wii.

          • Guest

Are you still talking to me? How do you know if you like it?…. Its not even out yet lol….. I said this is an awful game for 30$…. It is a hard copy of Download content that should be free.

          • david jarman

Are you having comprehension issues? I just simple said a lot of us liked super mario wii u and it was fun. Then I went on to say the Luigi was a dlc and the hard copy was there for those who want it. I never said I played the Luigi game, but I guess you did since you know it’s aweful.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Hang in there! You are of course 100% right.

          • david jarman

So, we are not right for liking the game?
So the many hundreds of thousands of people I see on miiverse posting how they love the system are wrong because of the few like you and him who don’t like the game. And now you don’t like this dlc.
Mad because nintendo made another mario game.
But what about what was commented earlier on here about ea making another madden, activision making another call of duty, or another battlefield, halo, killzone, uncharted, gtaV, or another halo?

          • Graeme Lynch

Can I just say that games with sequels generally carry a story with them. Mario games are the same damn games! Can someone please explain to me how they can find it acceptable that Nintendo releases the same game every year?

          • david jarman

So, mario is the same as mario galaxy, mario sunshine and mario 64? They didn’t go back to its original till 2006 on the ds and on the wii until November 2009 and that’s because fans were wanting it. The levels and mechanics have all been different. There was three years between nsmb wii and nsmbu. So, no. They have not been putting out the same game every year.

          • Graeme Lynch

4 out of 13 console Mario games that are ‘different’ hmmm…

          • david jarman

            Recent ones.

          • DereX

Listen man, stop being an internet bully to anyone who doesn’t agree with you.
I don’t buy call of duty games anymore, and I have never bought a madden game because those games are rip offs too; however, this isn’t a new game. This is a hard copy release of download content to ensure it will never be free to download. It’s amazing how people think YOU should get MORE, and you disagree lol.

          • david jarman

Uhm, how am I bullying? He asked me a question. I didn’t direspect you or him, but now you are being disrespectful towards me cause I state something logical and back it with an explanation. As for the new game comment. Read my post and everyone else’s post clearer cause we’ve been telling you that.
Ps. You never stated that WE should get more. You only stated that this game was a rehash and then we tried telling you that it was a dlc. You get upset and tell us all that your negative opinion matters most. Then I explain how that doesn’t work cause I work in marketing. That about sums it up. Conversation over, keep replying if you like.

          • david jarman

Actually, super mario for wii u is fun and this is a dlc that they also made as a stand alone for those that don’t like downloading. Oh, and one negative feed back doesn’t out weight two positive.

          • Graeme Lynch

Sorry, no they published it again, to make more money on the same game.

          • david jarman

No, this a dlc if you already own nsmbu and a stand alone if you don’t have it or don’t like downloads. They mentioned that some many times in the directs and on miiverse.
So dlc are not for making money?

          • Guest

I don’t see how you can randomly argue that this game is a good investment… This is how companies operate. They don’t know who you are and they don’t care about you because they are trying to make money.

Especially a couple pages down in the articles where Nintendo said they got less money then they thought/budgeted for this year? Yeah, that means they may release cheaper products at higher prices to play catch up.

          • david jarman

I think you have no clue to what you’re arguing about and I think you argue just to argue. Nowhere in this article does it mention what you just mention. So I take it you’re referring to some other article. Nintendo pointed out that it is a dlc with 80 levels that were redesigned for Luigi. This article makes it out like its a new game and then mentions it as dlc at the end of the article. I guess if a company works on something they’re not allowed to make money off it. It’s not like a new map or anything. Just 80 levels redesigned for Luigi. Simple solution here! Just simply don’t buy it. They have other games coming out.

          • Graeme Lynch

Of course DLC is for making money but my point is that they are also marketing it as a ‘new’ game which is shady.

          • david jarman

Nintendo never said it was a new game and anyone paying attention to the directs will know that. Johnny boy here does a wonderful job of making them look like douche’ bags. Look, nintendo clearly stated what this game is, a dlc. It’s the consumers responsibility to research a product as well as keeping themselves informed.

          • Graeme Lynch

A DLC that turned into a marketable ‘new’ Luigi title. Hmm…Lets face the fact that the average consumer will not be watching nintendo directs. Its just an attempt at stretching the game to make a quick buck.

          • david jarman

It’s still a dlc no matter what. You don’t know the extent of what they’ve done to each level to make it for Luigi and its not even at full price and they’re not forcing anyone to buy it and no it’s not being marketed as a new game. I bet if this was someone other then nintendo you wouldn’t even care. I think your just looking for any reason to bitch about something.
Like I said, its the consumers responsibility to research a product. That’s what the Internet is for.

          • Graeme Lynch

No I am a fan if Nintendo. I own a 3DS and WiiU. I complain about any company that I feel is trying to extort money. I perhaps hold Nintendo on a higher ground than other gaming companies however which means I am annoyed more by Nintendo doing things like this. You’re opinion is yours and mine is mine.

      • Javy G

Awesome! I love Super Mario Bros. U!

      • TobyObey

We should be happy that we actually get a box at all! This was originally supposed to be just a DLC, but it looks like Nintendo decided to give it a disc and box too, which is Awsome!

      • Kevin Sepulveda

Lmao someone needs to stop bleeding.

      • DemonRoach

This is how they lure in the 7 year olds.

      • Graeme Lynch

I do agree with you somewhat. Releasing the game again under the guise that it is standalone allows Nintendo to market it as a ‘new’ game. Of course you can argue that it technically is but lets face the reality that it isn’t it is the same game with a few tweaks and new characters. I also agree that feedback must be constructive but to be honest posting constructive feedback is pointless on here because few posters ‘nintenward’ prime example does not like to read such feedback. He will however jump on you for being overly critical. So my point is you are better to not posting anything negative or constructive as it is a waste of time.

        • david jarman

He should make it constructive not negative and not get all defensive about his opinion mattering the most.

    • http://waluigi.com/ Waluigi

      :(

      • Squid

        Waluigiland is nowhere soon. Sorry.

      • david jarman

Someday my friend. Someday you will spread your wings and fly.

        • http://waluigi.com/ Waluigi

          I hope so :’)

  • pfff

Wasn’t there an article of this yesterday!?

  • Nintendo4life

    Awesome

  • uPadWatcher

The PAL cover looks the same as the North American cover. STILL a butt kickin’ addition to New Super Mario Bros. U.

  • Christian Schoff

Ugh! I want the awesome case but I don’t want to pay the extra 10 dollars! I’m torn between the two. x (

    • BuckStud

The great thing about the reatil version, is it’s stand alone. You don’t have to have Super Mario U to play it.

    • Fred

If you use the deluxe digital promotion you essentially save $12 for downloading it.
      I’m downloading it!

      • Christian Schoff

I couldn’t ever figure out how to make it work. That’s OK though. I like the Wii U enough as it is.

  • Lord Carlisle

“Good, an article that’s not negative.”

    – Looks at author –

    – Does a double take -

  • jcnba28

I’m buying the physical disc just because I want the green box ;)

    • kaygivs

oh yeah. i was surely going to download it til i saw the green box haha

  • Kamon

    Nabbit is just Mario in disguise to get away with helping Luigi out. ;}

    • Shaise Mughal

      Lol

    • Mario

      How did you know??

  • http://twitter.com/SeroReviews SeroReviews

I’ll get the retail version, that box looks great

    • Fred

Not me, I’m downloading it. People keep telling me they won’t download games until the price is lower for the downloaded copy. Here it’s officially $10 cheaper, but for me it’ll effectively be $12 cheaper cause I use the Deluxe digital promotion. I’d say $12 cheaper is significant plus my kids won’t lose/ruin the disc.

  • sdmac200600

Retail version for me. I always prefer hard over digital.

    • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

      Thats what she said

      • Squid

Lol, I’m guessing there are virtual GirlFriends too.

        • Daniel Gonzalez

          Some like pixeldating.

      • Nintedward

        lol

    • Daniel Gonzalez

      “Hard”

  • Jon

hmmm…. hard decision.. retail version or downloadable version….. downloadable version will be cheaper and give me points to the e-shop but… the green case with the box art….. it is almost like a collectable for me :P

  • DereX

Cut the crap nintendo…. Give us a pokemon game for wiiu !!!! (3d world version on Wiiu) …. Ill even settle for a virtual console download of any Pokemon game. Stop showing us this luigi crap. Nobody likes Luigi…. How about you Make a bowser game starring bowser…. Have you lost all of your creativity Nintendo?

    • BuckStud

I’m somebody and I like Luigi. I’m not a Pokemon fan though.

      • DereX

You are being scammed for the same game with a different character…. Mario is like 100yrs older than Pokemon and generated the same revenue and they barely even make pokemon games. They need to focus on Mario, Pokemon, and Zelda.. not luigi..

        • Lord Carlisle

          Uh… maybe TEN years longer.

          • DereX

The game maybe; however, I think the character is much older in the form of like hanafudu cards.

          • Lord Carlisle

Yeah, I’m pretty sure that’s not true.

          • DereX

Haha Nintendo made hanafudu cards before Video games, founded in 1889 (they were also a taxi service). Nintendo needs to stop this Luigi joke and focus on Mario, Pokemon, and Zelda.

          • Lord Carlisle

I knew about that little piece of trivia, I meant I don’t believe Mario originated as a character for their cards.

          • DereX

I know atleast 15 people that would buy a wiiu today if there was a gameboy style pokemon 3d world game on wiiu like they release on handheld systems.

          • Lord Carlisle

I wasn’t even on that topic myself… but Nintendo has plenty of games up their sleeves. Who knows, they might announce such a game in the future.

          • jay

            focus on mario?

Didn’t you just say he’s 100 years older than Pokemon to they should focus on Pokemon instead?

        • jay

          its not the same game.

By your logic Pokemon Black & White are the same game.

          • DereX

Yes, pokemon black and white are practically the same game and that is why I would never buy them both (like most normal people). Just like i will not buy this ridiculous luigi “expansion pack”. This DLC should probably be free just for making us all wait for so long after mario bros was released.

          • jay

Zelda should be free too for making us wait so long /facepalm

    • LopsidedPasta

Translation: Stop taking old ideas and updating them to make them even better! I don’t want a full fledged game for 20$! I would rather have a home console Pokémon game! Because those are always such high quality. Right? Right? Besides, playing as a slow fat turtle would be MUCH more entertaining.

      • DereX

        Yeah, what he said.

    • Fred

I like Luigi, however, you may have something there.
I think a game starring Bowser could be very fun. I’d give it a try. I think you stumbled on a very fun idea. I wonder if Nintendo ever reads the comments section on articles

    • Javy G

You do play as Bowser in Paper Mario Thousand Year Door for GameCube.

      • jay

Mario RPG!! dont forget MArio RPG!!

    • thedeciderU

a bowser game would be the tits

    • Steve

I like Luigi. Way cooler than Mario. Higher jumps, kind of flutters (SM64DS) and just better altogether. Mario is overrated. Weegee wins :]

  • D.M.T

I never bought New Super Mario Bros. U simply because I thought the game was too expensive. I don’t want to pay 60 euros for a 2D game but Super Luigi U is 30 euros so i will buy the retail version in August.

    • Fred

I thought it was worth $60, but I realize that everyone has different tastes and I love that since development costs were lower here they are charging less for it which allows guys like you to enjoy it.

      • Nintedward

Agreed. It was a great game and I had lots of fun playing multiplayer with friends and family. The Challenge mode is perhaps the greatest addition ever to the Mario series. It just needs leaderboards like Rayman Legends :) and it would be a masterpiece.

        • thedeciderU

the level design in NSMBU is the best since 1990.

          • Squid

            Yep.

        • John Raybell

I wish they didn’t have the challenge mode, I feel it took away from the main game, i wish they didn’t have those side things and put that effort into extending the main worlds. not of fan of mini game, game modes in a title such as Mario or Zelda.

        • Squid

I feel like Nabbit being added can make multiplayer MUCH better. I don’t know about you, but when I have one of my friends over, he brings his sister so me and him are good, and my sister and his sister aren’t, the terrible player, my sister can be on the gamepad, my friends sister can be Nabbit.

    • John Raybell

So you wont be buying Rayman, and didnt get the first one?

Did you know because of inflation games in reality are cheaper then they have ever been in history. Remember $50-$60 now is worth allot less then $50-$60 was worth say 10 years ago. You do understand that this is one of the main reasons for this gaming crash we are seeing today right?

      • D.M.T

I’m aware of everything you said, I’m from the 90’s, my first console was the SNES. I just don’t think that 2D games should cost $50-$60 in today’s generation, especially a game like New Super Mario Bros. U that looks similar to the Wii version but in HD. 2D games should always be cheaper than 3D games in my opinion.

I will buy Rayman Legends but not at launch because I rather buy Wonderful 101 and Splinter Cell first.

        • John Raybell

2D nor 3D makes the game, its the game it self. What you stated is just how you think, NOTHING more, others may and will see it differently start by getting a fucking job or not being 14, $60 isn’t crap, It sold pretty well the last time I checked :)

          • D.M.T

Yes it is MY OPINION, that’s what I said. I think 2D games should be a little bit cheaper. And did you just insult me? Fuck off if you can’t accept my opinion. 2D games are great but I think they have a smaller budget which is why I think they should be cheaper. Maybe I’m wrong but I just don’t think Mario Bros. U is worth $60

  • BuckStud

I’d definitely spend the extra $10 for the retail version. I’ll have to
wait a couple of months longer though as the digital version is coming
    out sooner.

    • thedeciderU

looks like there are drawbacks for both: one is more expensive, one is download only, one has a sweet case and manual, one you can’t resell in case you ever choose to, one you can. i’ll definitely be picking up the retail copy. i hope to see more gameplay footage soon.

  • Johny

GOD this box is sexy :D i love it
i loved “special” boxes on wii too :D

  • Fred

    Now, let’s think about this.
Most companies do something similar to this (Nintendo made NSMBU in 2012 and the sequel NSLU in 2013)
EA does a new Madden every year
Activision does a new Call of Duty every year
Ubisoft does a new Assassins Creed every year
EA, Activision, and Ubisoft are recycling the engine and characters and mechanics of the game to cut development time and they are still charging $60
Nintendo recycles the engine, characters, and game mechanics and gives it to NSMBU owners for $20 and everyone else for $30.
Just think about that. My whole life I’ve purchased 1 EA football game for each console generation Madden ’95 for SNES, Madden ’01 for N64, Madden ’04 for Gamecube, and NCAA ’12 for PS3 (I also bought one each for gameboy, GBA, and 3DS), but I’ve never been able to justify a second one on any single system even though I’ve put tons of time into the game. Same with NBA 2K I bought NBA 2K 11 for PS3 and NBA 2k13 for Wii U. If other companies would follow Nintendo on this one I would be happy to update my game for $20 every year, but I’m not willing to do it for $60.
Next month I”ll buy New Super Luigi U as an update for my copy of New Super Mario Bros U, but I have no plans to buy NBA 2K14 this fall even though I have absolutely LOVED 2K11 and 2K13.
    Just a thought

    • Pink Floyd

this is not a sequel dude, is just DLC, BIG ASS DLC, and it is stand alone, just for the porpuse of promote the year of luigi

      • Oum’Bushay

It’s close enough to a sequel

      • Oum’Bushay

Even if not a sequel it is the same amount of levels for only $20

        • Fred

Yes that was basically my point

      • John Raybell

Did you even READ what he said, doesn’t have to be a sequel nor is madden 2013 a sequel to madden 2012 lol. What he said make sense.
Sequel or not he is right.

        • The_Last_Metroid

          yes, just a big DLC

          • John Raybell

and madden and fifa are even less of a DLC yet they are full priced. :) So a DLC for cheap thats just as big if not bigger then the first game, compared to madden and fifa that are exactly the same for what is that “FULL PRICE”.

Oh that’s right that’s what Leo Wright was talking about.

Nintendo did something good, make a good choice for the buyer.

        • bizzy gie

          You can’t read speech.

And he did call the Luigi DLC a sequel.
“Nintendo made NSMBU in 2012 and the SEQUEL NSLU in 2013″

          • John Raybell

Yeah that’s besides his point, as his point was still relevant based on size of DLC and being stand alone etc.

And he gave no SPEECH, he typed, which typing you have to read, you cant listen to typing like you can a speech MORON.

          • bizzy gie

“Did you even READ what he said” is what I was refering to. And I’M the moron.

          • John Raybell

ok so you were just being an ass, wow whats new.

          • bizzy gie

But you’re the one throwing around cheap insults.

          • John Raybell

Yeah to people that shouldnt even be here, like trolls-nintendo haters, its pointless, like i told the other guy just go to a xbox or ps page.

          • Fred

So since you’re wanting to be so technical will you please detail for me the difference between the 2 cause if I’m looking at the $20 one it would technically have to be called DLC, but if I don’t own NSMBU and I buy the disc for $30 you can’t possibly call that DLC. Hasn’t Nintendo blurred the lines by releasing what is effectively a full game and releasing it at a price between normal DLC and the full price, but also sell it BOTH as DLC and as a retail game?

          • DereX

This DLC isn’t big enough to be a game, or it would be. They are just struggling to produce games because developers dont want to develop on the wiiu and they cant do everything themselves. This is some corporate ploy to put something on the shelves and to calm the people that are getting tired of waiting for wiiu exclusive nintendo games.

          • Fred

What do you mean it isn’t big enough to be a game??? It’s 82 levels!!! That’s the same size as NSMBU so if Luigi isn’t enough to be a game then neigher is Mario.

          • bizzy gie

You have a point there. It’s not really downloadable content since you’re not downloading anything. There’s no name for it since it’s world’s first physical DLC (or whatever you call it).

        • Fred

          Thank-you

      • jay

        Biggest DLC in History.

      • Fred

Isn’t it kind of both? It’s DLC, if you own NSMBU, but if you buy the disc for $30 then IT’S NOT DLC BECAUSE IT’S ON A DISC! It’s got just as many levels as NSMBU and slightly different play mechanics (Luigi controls a little different than Mario) It’s almost like Nintendo has blurred the lines between sequels and DLC. Anyway that wasn’t my point. My point was regardless of what you call it, you’re getting just as much new content or just as much new fun for a lot less money. Because of that I WILL BUY IT and if they continue to do things like this in the future I’ll will buy them too.
On the other hand, if they had released this same thing as a sequel and called it a sequel and only sold it separately for $60, I’m not sure I would be buying it.

  • Darkness

Doesn’t Nabbit resemble tac from Kirby?

    • DekuMask

I also think he looks kinda like Bowser Jr.

  • Clel

I feel like I saw this article pretty darn recently… Does Kinsley even look at what’s been put up on Wii U Daily other than his own articles?

  • A SNES Day Off

If we’re to presume that the retail version of this game will cost around £19.99, then there is honestly no good reason to download the DLC. Convenience still comes at many prices :-)

  • bizzy gie

At first I was like no way I’m paying an extra ten dollars for DLC for a game I already have, but I really want that green box.

  • Andrei Gdo Abarca

Not sure if i’ll have more space for this download, i love my Digital copies. Next thing is buying the tera external HD for the Wii u :)

  • Steve

Looks just like the Super Mario Bros. U box art, only greener and more Luigi-er. Still looks nice.

  • gimpcell

Everyone wants the box. Stay away from my box! If you live in Austin you better watch out. Unless I get it before you, then everything will be just fine.

  • Joel

    Alright, now this is stupid.

  • Jake

Anyone else gonna spend $10 extra jut for the box.

    • RyuNoHadouken

      i am

  • Mickey Mouse

Does anyone know if you need to have completed the original game to be able to play the dlc, ’cause I lost my save file and not having to play the original again would save time.

    • Joseph

I’m pretty sure that you can. You just have to have the disc

  • mister turtlehead

The only differences i’ve heard about this is luigi and nabbitt as playable characters. is there anything that actually makes download worth $20?

    • Michael Jurado

      82 levels remastered for luigi

      • Ice Climbers

Plus the 100 second time limit on all of those levels.

        • Michael Jurado

at first i thought the 100 second time limit was dumb but man was i wrong it gives each level tremendous replay value

      • mister turtlehead

so the levels are different? if that’s the case, i guess it’s worth it.

  • ROCO

Anyone knows if I’m going to be able to download it even if I don’t have the super mario game?

    • Joseph

If you download it, you have to have the disc from the original game.

  • Linskarmo

Its definitely a nice box, but I think I’ll get the downloadable version if I get it.

    • John Raybell

well yeah if you already own the first one there is no reason to buy the hard copy, that’s for people who already don’t own the first game.

      • Jimmy D. Fugate

Well I’m a collector….I have NSMBU already but i’m getting the box version of this.

        • John Raybell

          That too :)

        • Linskarmo

Just what I was gonna say. If someone wants the box, then they can get it. I think it’s awesome looking, personally.

  • Michael Jurado

2 maps + 1 character from borderlands dlc net value 20$ vs 1 new character + 82 maps net value 20$ yeah i’m going to have to give it to nintendo XD

  • Oum’Bushay

I hope they add a new powerup of some sort.

  • http://people.ign.com/returnofthetruth2 ReturnoftheTruth2

Great, more SNES games on what is supposed to be an HD 3D system! You would think that those types of games would be what Nintendo would want to push on a Wii U. With games like these – it’s no wonder the Wii U is not selling well, people think that this is the best that it can do. Nintendo effed up big time and I really don’t think that they can crawl out of the hole they dug for themselves.

    • Jimmy D. Fugate

You want graphics like that, then wait for Bayonetta 2, Retro’s Project, Pikmin 3 and Watch Dogs. Just because the art style is simple doesn’t mean they are “SNES” games. And whatever hole Nintendo fell in, don’t worry, Ubisoft, WB, Capcom, SEGA, Atlus and Activision are all helping them out.

      • http://people.ign.com/returnofthetruth2 ReturnoftheTruth2

Sadly, those publishers can’t help anyone out of anything – especially Sega. More likely than not, most of them will move to the other systems.

        • Ice Climbers

Capcom is close to Nintendo, and probably does the best out of any 3rd parties on Nintendo systems. Sega is under an exclusive contract for Sonic and Yakuza HD. Atlus is working with Nintendo on a crossover and most of their recent SMT games are exclusive to Nintendo systems. Ubisoft has been pretty clear that they will support the Wii U. Activision puts their stuff on everything. All of those are quite clearly going to continue supporting the Wii U. Nintendo isn’t even in a hole. Once the games start coming, the Wii U will pick up drastically just like the 3DS (which was in a MUCH worse condition).

          • http://people.ign.com/returnofthetruth2 ReturnoftheTruth2

The prime difference is that Nintendo fully controls the handheld market but not the console market. Sonic is no longer system seller since Sega whored it out. Everything else – who cares? Nintendo would have to blow my mind in order for me to get excited. So far I have zero faith that they can.

          • Ice Climbers

You seem to forget the PS Vita exists. The Vita is more powerful than the 3DS and is capable of a lot more, but its being outsold completely. 4 million in one year compared to 31 million in two years. The 3DS was in a much worse condition than the Wii U is in now, yet Nintendo managed to turn that around before Sony released the Vita. Nintendo is perfectly capable of doing the same with Wii U. Just wait for E3. Nintendo is pulling out all the stops this time around with their Directs. This Direct was just the beginning.

          • http://people.ign.com/returnofthetruth2 ReturnoftheTruth2

The reason I forget about the Vita and 3DS is because I don’t care about handhelds. Nintendo dominates the handhelds scene and always has. That is a totally different market, and one could argue a much younger one as well.

          • Ice Climbers

I have to agree with you there.

        • jay

What you doing in the “BABY GAEMEZ” section again??

        • Jimmy D. Fugate

So let me get this straight….

The creators of Rayman, Splinter Cell, Assassin’s Creed, ZombiU, Beyond Good & Evil, Watch Dogs and Far Cry aren’t enough to help them.

The creators of Injustice, the Batman Arkham Games, Scribblenauts and Mortal Kombat aren’t enough to help them out.

The makers of Resident Evil and Monster Hunter aren’t enough.

The makers of Sonic, Jet Set Radio, Skies of Arcadia, Yakuza and Crazy Taxi aren’t enough either.

The creators of Call of Duty, Skylanders and the highly anticipated Destiny are not enough.

And finally the creators of Shin Megami Tensei and Persona (as well as many other Nintendo collaborations) is not enough to help them.
I’m sorry but there are too many good IPs here, that it makes your comment seem invalid.

          • http://people.ign.com/returnofthetruth2 ReturnoftheTruth2

Yeah – those are NOT enough to help. Have they helped thus far?

          • Jimmy D. Fugate

Well considering only 8 of those are released…with 20 more games coming before the end of this year…And yes ZombiU sold modestly well.

    • jay

dont get mad cause it’s gonna outsell your gangsta sim lol!

  • Extra Vinegary

I want online multiplayer in these Mario games already.

        • Squid

It’s a reference to the actual movie that the gif is from. I’m very excited for New Super Luigi U

  • John Raybell

this is cool but I kinda want to see a full fledged 3d luigi game instead of the classic stuff, I will get it and play it and all that good stuff, but man I want something bigger, i dont want to repeat my childhood. looking forward to The new full Mario game more.

But price alone does make this a must buy for DLC at least.

At the same time I don’t think they are doing Luigi justice for it being the YEAR of Luigi at least hold him as high as Mario for his anniversary. Ill grab it but i’m not overly excited about it, pretty much a mehhhh.

  • Sonic

  • bizzy gie

Nintendo is the only company that would let people who didn’t even buy the game enjoy the DLC to it.

    • Cerus98

I’m sure it will be like any other DLC whether it is on a disc or not. It will require the actual original game to install and run. The disc I imagine is for collectors and to avoid the inevitable large download.

      • Hirgie

Like they said in the last Nintendo Direct the disc will contain the whole game and will not need the other game to play it. Nonetheless I think the disc will be more expensive than the DLC itself.

      • bizzy gie

Nintendo said in the Nintendo Direct that the standalone version was for those who wanted to play the DLC, but didn’t buy NSMB.U.

        • Cerus98

Ah I stand corrected. I didn’t finish the video and missed that part.

    • Ibi Salmon

Not really. Nintendo’s not the first company to do something like this. The first(I believe) was Rockstar.

      • bizzy gie

Um… gonna need proof before I just believe that buddy.

        • Ibi Salmon

          Umm.. Hello? Undead Nightmare?

          • bizzy gie

Never heard of it. So they allowed non-game owners to download the DLC? Even if they did, I bet it wasn’t a physical stand-alone DLC.

          • Ibi Salmon

Actually, it was. Although, I’m not sure if you could download it without having Red Dead Redemption.

Either way, Nintendo isn’t the first to this. They just took a step further by making the DLC playable without the main game.

          • bizzy gie

What are you talking about? Nintendo is the first company to let people who do NOT own the game play the DLC to it because they’re the first company to make a physical, CD DLC sold at retailers.

          • Ibi Salmon

And I’m saying that they aren’t because Rockstar released Undead Nightmare as a physical disc game at retail.

          • bizzy gie

And you’re positive it was DLC? Not like a mini game or spin-off? Or like Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon? It was an actual DLC?

          • Ibi Salmon

What do you mean be “actual DLC”? It was available for download, therefore it’s DLC.

It is a spin-off, but I don’t see how that discredits it from being “actual DLC”.

          • bizzy gie

DLC is a pretty misleading name. However, in this sense, I’m talking about the DLC everybody is familiar with. Like a map pack DLC for BO 2 or a campaign extension DLC for AC3. These are what DLC are. They are dependent on a full game (or have been up until now). A sub-game or spin-off isn’t DLC.

          • Ibi Salmon

I guess I can see where you’re coming from.

  • Justis Bistawros

I would get this i think its a an entirely new game but only for Luigi..

  • SoulSilverZero

I wonder if Bowser locked Mario in the bathroom stall in Peach’s castle after eating too many beans before he threw Luigi and the Toads out.

  • Ducked

I love the box art! I’ll be waiting til it comes in stores.

  • GoGlo 13

kinda think its a waste of time making this being that the super Mario bros Luigi was a playable character already same stages by looking at the screen shots there’s like 2 new stages

    • John Raybell

its different, even Luigi is different now, and who doesn’t love more mario games, its cheap and this just adds to what the first game was lacking. So no its not a waste of time, its money for them to support games like zelda and the new 3d mario game that’s coming in oct, games like that. AND ITS CHEAP :)

  • Joe

I hope the price comes down in UK… the cheapest you can find it here for a pre-order is £40!

  • Tecpedz94

Okay? I dont get the point of your first part which states to take a piss???

  • John Raybell

That wasn’t towards you, it was pointing out the other guy and how he didnt know what he was, he used this expression, which is British then tried to be Italian.
