Sonic: Lost World will introduce new enemies and gameplay

sonic-lost-world

Sonic: Lost World was perhaps the biggest reveal of last week’s Nintendo Direct, as it was announced exclusively for the Wii U and 3DS. According to Sega of America president John Cheng, the game will feature new gameplay elements, as well as new enemies to conquer. The game will be brand new, instead of a re-iteration like we’ve seen in the past.

“With ‘Sonic Lost World,’ we’re going to introduce new gameplay and enemies, which is always fun. In terms of Sonic and his friends, he’ll have his same friends there, and I think there’ll be some new ones as well. It’s not a reiteration. It’s going to be all new.”

Many of you were hoping that the game would turn out to be like Sonic Generations, which could be described to be a re-iteration by many. What do you think of this news? Are you still excited for the game? Let us know in the comments below.

      Cool picture but don’t you mean E3 2013? Nintendo’s E3 2012 presentation wasn’t so great.

      • HSN1

I found it on the internet, and noticed the “2012″ too late. It gives the idea though (no hate for MS and Sony, they’re great companies)

        • NintendoNoob

No hate for Sony, it’s a nice company. Microsoft on the other hand….

    • Telling it like it is

Sony will most likely win the 8th gen. Third-party support, most powerful console, extremely easy to develop for, supporting indie dev. They’re playing it safe and it will pay off. I think Nintendo’s and Sony’s presentations at E3 will be greatly beneficial to the both of them. Microsoft on the other hand… they never do anything right.

      • HSN1

If Microsoft does it right at today’s presentation of the next Xbox and E3, then they have a chance to be relevant, if not it will be a war between Sony and Nintendo.

Nintendo will (finally) present the games everyone wants to play on a Nintendo system, so it will likely stay relevant.

Sony has the super-powerful console and Nintendo the innovation-friendly one. Sony has got an advantage since the PS4 has a x86 architecture (the one used in modern PCs) that makes it very developer-friendly, but the difference might not be that big, and if that’s the case, the WiiU offers more in terms of possibilities for gameplay that an indie developer might find useful.

        • SuperAwesome

3ds is very popular these days and after the release of pokemon x and y, it will simply sky rock, and a lot of people like sonic, i am one of the fans of sonic because it was the only game i played when i was little

there is already pre-orders of 3ds and for people who don’t have a 3ds, they will just simply buy it after the release of pokemon x and y

        • UltimateKai453

          I got x86

          • HSN1

Well, some say x86 is worse than x64, but in the end I think that it doesn’t really matter unless you’re a perfectionist.

            Oh, and the PS4 isn’t x64, but x86, I’ll fix it

      • DereX

I am suprised your comment got so many thumbs up on a Nintendo fan site. You are absolutely right though about Sony most likely winning popular majority. Love my wiiu but I know I will be buying a ps4 sometime. Sony is really stepping up their game.

  • RockieOllie

Just make it have Chao Garden with online competition and it’s instant buy

    • Pedro Natera

      hell yea love that idea

    • SuperAwesome

that is the reason why i like sonic adventure 1&2

  • John Andalora

Still not convinced it’s going to be worth a purchase.
“New Gameplay” is too vague for me.

    • Javy G

I know what you mean, kind of on the fence with this but they did say it was ACTION/adventure so it may keep the pace up with the Sonic we’re used to.

      • John Andalora

The last Sonic game I “liked” was Sonic Adventure Battle 2.
I just think SEGA might fail on this one like their others for the sole purpose of trying to implement 3D in a game that was far superior in 2D

        • Cubester_64

You know, SOME people would disagree with you on that, just sayin’.

          • John Andalora

            That’s why I used a certain phrasing like “I think” and “I ‘liked’ .”
            Because it’s my opinion.
            Here’s an example:
I think you should stop complaining by writing how other people have differing opinions anytime someone has a different opinion than you.
            Just sayin.

        • sonictopfan

I know Sonic Battle and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, but never heard of Sonic Adventure Battle 2 :p

Anyway something tells me you didn’t play Sonic The Hedgehog 2006 because if you did you’ll know that game was so close to Sonic Adventure 1 & 2

        • UltimateKai453

          Sonic Adventure 2 Battle*

No, they created 3D Games for a purpose, it’s the Next-Generation. And SEGA will definitely not fail on this one. New Gameplay will probably be 2.5D like Klonoa. But we got to see ourselves.

          • sonictopfan

As much as I really prefer 3D I don’t mind 2D if it played like the classic levels in Generations, just enough with the needless boosting please, it’s called a high-speed platformer and not a car racer for a reason!

            In before NO WEREHOG PLEASE!

  • Lord Fuse

    “New gameplay”

    Now watch it being amazing and get a 2/10 from IGN. ;_;

    • D.M.T

      I’m sorry but IGN’s Nintendo’s division doesn’t hate the Wii U.

The reason that ZombiU got 6.4/10 on IGN is because a Sony fanboy reviewed the game.

Not a Sony fan but a Sony fanboy reviewed it so in his opinion ZombiU was crap before he even started playing it

      • DereX

Zombie U got a 6.3 because ZombiU is not that great of a game. Ign gave ZombiU the score it deserved with those terrible controls and clunky style of fighting.

        • AAAkabob

I haven’t played doom but I agree there were many frustrating flaws to the game. Hit detection and the scanner being pretty useless being two big ones

        • kenny Johnson

I’m not a big horror game fan, so my opinion should be taken with a grain of salt. But I didn’t care for the demo. That said, I actually quite enjoyed the recent RE demo and really like RE4.

        • nigeriangamer

i think zombiU should have been rated higher at least higher than RE6 and dead space 3.this was another true horror zombie game.sure the combat needed some work but still a good survival horror game.not all action like RE6 and dead space 3.

        • Telling it like it is

Yep, not to mention the game was tedious, there was only one monotonous way to swing the bat, annoying backtracking, the lack of motivation due to the terrible story, the insta-deaths.

The item management was great and so was the atmosphere. I’d give the game a generous 5.5/10 for having promise, but not delivering.

      • ReckoningReckoner

        But ZombiU sucked…

      • UltimateKai453

ZombiU doesn’t even do with Zombies mainly. It’s not even scary. You rarely find zombies at any chances and it’s hard to control. There’s a reason he did that.

    • jay

IGN is a reliable source? Since when?

    • greengecko007

As long as it isn’t stupid gameplay like Sonic the Secret Rings… you just constantly move forward, with the controls being jump and stop…

  • Saul Rivera

Hand it over to Miyamoto…he’ll make the game playable at least

  • gamer_guy

I’m really looking forward to this, I just hope they include off-screen play as standard on all the sega titles.

  • Anton Gustin

As long as they stick to the core of what makes Sonic games fun, then I’m happy, Generations got that right, lets just hope that this one does as well.

  • Rikz

They Should Do a Open world Sonic game with beautiful environments….It Would Be awesome to run around at the speed of sound xD…It Would be an Instant buy!!!

    • Telling it like it is

It really wouldn’t. The game should stick to it’s platforming roots and actually deliver on Sonic being fast instead of having him slow down for everything.

  • adamm

who cares about new enemies? I just want a chao garden for fuck’s sake.

    • Ash Kirkwood

They could release a Chao Garden game as a standalone title and i would buy it up.

    • http://www.facebook.com/manuel.alberto.336 Manuel Alberto

I don’t know. I think I would like kick to new enemies’s butts with homing attacks. And spin dashes. And Sonic boost!!!

  • D.M.T

I will buy this game no doubt. I’m a big Sonic fan

  • DereX

Cant wait to play this sonic game.

  • Jeffery02

Looks like they are trying to go with the Sonic CD setup. Some kind of planetoid or moon with a bunch of random environments. Hopefully it’s good. Sega has been really inconsistent with the blue blur and I feel that they are almost no longer deserving of the Sonic brand. Sonic isn’t a bad series, it’s Sega that’s not doing it right. I have faith in Sonic, but not Sega. There is no reason that Sonic should have this many bad games. Hopefully this game turns it around. I’m hoping for it to be great! But I am not going to get my hopes up…

  • Ash Kirkwood

I certainly look forward to seeing what this partnership brings to the table. I have been a fan of the Sonic series since the days of the Mega Drive (Genesis) titles and loved Sonic Adventure 2 on the Dreamcast and SA2 Battle on Gamecube. I was lucky enough to grow up with both Sega and Nintendo consoles and am always happy to see them come together. I think it’s a win for Nintendo, Sega and Wii U and 3DS owners who will benifit from their Sonic titles and hopeful future cameos and crossover appearances. I also agree. The Chao garden is a must. ^_^

  • http://twitter.com/Onyzora Ony

I hope it will not be as “new” as the gameplay of Sonic Uleashed… I’ve done the first werehog level in 25min it was AWFUL.

And I hoped more for a Adventure 3 then Generation.
    I don’t understand why peoples loves old-Sonic.

There were not really good :/

    • http://www.facebook.com/manuel.alberto.336 Manuel Alberto

But I liked that new gameplay.

    • greengecko007

I liked the Sonic Unleashed gameplay. The combat was fun, with lots of combos, and there was a fair amount of platforming involved as a werehog too. I didn’t like the different gameplay of Sonic and the Secret Rings.

  • Ever

I hope they include the Chao Garden.

  • http://www.facebook.com/manuel.alberto.336 Manuel Alberto

First of all, you do realize that SEGA made Sonic generations just to celebrate Sonic 20th anniversary. Right? Second of all, new game? New gameplay? New enemies? New characters? New stages? New all? WICKED!!!

    • Sonic the Hedgehog

      20th anniversary…

      • http://www.facebook.com/manuel.alberto.336 Manuel Alberto

        Oh right! My mistake!

  • Shaise Mughal

    I cant wait!

  • Ducked

I wish they would give Tails his own game

    • Cubester_64

He did, on the Game Gear…

      • Ducked

Yeah but no one remembers that. Few people remember the Game Gear. I’d love a 3D Tails game.

        • UltimateKai453

But, He got 2 games on the game gear.
Not only that but that don’t matter, most fans care for Sonic.

          • sonictopfan

Tails also got his own game on the SEGA Pico and a mobile game of his own too!

  • Johny

lol i want it to be half as good as Sonic Colors was. then im happy

  • http://www.facebook.com/jamal.brown.14 Duke Togo

sounds gd i think Mario should be like this 2 instead of fighting bowser and saving the princess all the time

  • Squid

Hmm…. I’ll be happy as long as sonic still runs fast and it’s in 3D (at least for some levels like Unleashed)

  • Dominic Coradazzi

Hmm… I like new directions but I hope it doesn’t stray too far off the beaten path

  • Guhtere

Who would’ve thought that the entire rivalry between Nintendo and Sega would lead to Sonic coming exclusively to Nintendo platforms. Ironic, isn’t it?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=571568099 Daniel Smith

    Its probably going to dissapoint!

  • Alex Damman

i’m super excited for the new enemies and characters, but please, sega, for the love of god, MAKE THE GAMEPLAY GOOD

  • Super Buu

As long as the new gameplay is somewhere along the lines of Sonic Colors or the Sonic Adventure games, I’m happy. I just hope it isn’t on-rail like Secret Rings and Black Knight. It really doesn’t fit Sonic.

  • sonictopfan

If it was like Sonic Generations I wouldn’t be excited at all, I never liked the new boost-to-win gameplay, but knowing it’s a new gameplay gives me hope for the open world gameplay again from the Adventure games (in before Sonic 3D Blast) that I liked so much, and why does Sonic remind me of Sonic 06 in this pic? Not that I’m complaining to me Sonic 06 was and always will be better than Unleashed, Colors, and Generations combined together, hate me all you want but I’m entitled of my opinion!

    • Cubester_64

No offense but you are one of the only people on the web who like it that I’ve heard about. I’ve never played it (only owned Nintendo consoles), but if I do get to play it, I have high hopes it will be better than the general web consensus to me.

      • sonictopfan

You’d be surprised there are a lot of people besides me who like it, truth be said it’s the closest we ever got to a Sonic Adventure 3 and is very similar to the first two Adventure titles minus the Chao Garden of course.

The game is underrated and is not given justice because by the time it came out many people couldn’t afford the new gen consoles so the only ones who played it were the “so-called” hard core fans who like to bitch and complain about everything that wasn’t released in the 90s, the group who consider Sonic Adventure 2 the second worst Sonic game ever next to this one, (yes it’s true, they hate SA2 that much) and the game ended up with a bad reputation it really doesn’t deserve!

        • UltimateKai453

True, there is more people that like it. Why’d that get a dislike? Some people like it. You can’t get mad at someone for liking or disliking something.

  • devmiles

i hope it’s not like the 2d sonics but a one similar to sonic adventure 1 & 2 but with the wii-u specs and capabilities, then it would be very good. the key ingredient to all these new sonic games is controls… i think most of them suck very hard except the ones for megadrive/cd and sonic jam for saturn

  • Cowboy Kyle

is it going to be on
    360 and ps3

    • Mason742

      nice nice

      • TaintedXGamer

Sonic: Lost World was perhaps the biggest reveal of last week’s Nintendo Direct, as it was announced “exclusively” for the “Wii U” and “3DS.” tell me you 2 what are the keys words in here? I spotted “3″. did you not see them?

    • UltimateKai453

      No.

  • shoeses47

YES! Finally, the Sonic FPS has arrived! XD

    • UltimateKai453

      Not a FPS.

  • Logan Wayman

I’m guessing that they’ll add new heroes as well, so I think Incinerator the Dragon.

Description: A black dragon with red eyes and huge dragon wings. Ally of Team Dark. Wears a vest that Akuma from Street Fighter might wear. Wears combat boots. Has fire powers like Blaze, but has a REAL hot temper. Has claws. One of his lines: “I could beat the snot out of ya anytime, pal!” He can transform into Starfire Incinerator, his own version of Sonic Shadow and Silver’s super forms.

Picture him in your mind, and comment about him. Do you think he’ll be great in the game or not?

  • UltimateKai453

    Wow!

    You know what?

    This better have:

    Stories,

Nothing more than 6 Chao Gardens,

    Chao World/Kidnergarten

Nothing more than 20 Stages per story

Same amount of levels for each story

Have a plot that makes sense like Generations (I liked colors but that had a terrible plot.)

“New Gameplay” Hopefully 2.5D (like klonoa and klonoa2 for psx and ps2) or 3.5D (Generations just with turning to the side and background objects that you will not be able to go on until after a few twists and turns, Also kind of like Klonoa)

    New Characters

    Nazo

DLCs in both 3DS and Wii U EShop to play more stages, and more characters like Rayman, Pacman, Megaman, Naruto or whatsoever

    Final Story

    Super Sonic Transformation

In Japan, it’s logo should have in small bold words “Sonic Adventure 3″ under SONIC: LOST WORLD

Unlockables like Super Emeralds (for hyper sonic), Chao Powerups, Play as any of your Chao in Stages, New Stages, To play the first level of Sonic Adventure 1, 2, Heroes, Colors, Unleashed, Generations, Sonic 1, 2, 3 and CD (Emerald Coast, City Escape, Seaside Hill, Tropical Resort, Windmill Isle, Green Hill (GENERATIONS MODERN AND CLASSIC), Green Hill (SONIC 1), Emerald Hill, Angel Island and Palmtree Panic)
