Club Nintendo refunds coins for Super Metroid purchase

club-nintendo-refund

Super Metroid was part of April’s Club Nintendo’s downloadable rewards, at a hefty price of 150 coins. Many of you posted in the comments last month to save your coins since it’s coming up in the 30 cent promotion later this month and for those that didn’t, Nintendo is offering a full refund. For Wii U owners who used 150 coins to purchase Super Metroid on the Wii virtual console, Nintendo has fully refunded those people.

You’ll get your coins back and if you really want Super Metroid on the Wii U virtual console, you’ll be able to pick it up for 30 cents soon. How nice of Nintendo!

And they say Nintendo doesnt care about gamers.

    • Alex

They also throw a party on WiiU Experience, gave away prizes on many things including tournament, and Nintendo also gave away free Super Mario Bros DLC for reaching a billion coins from all the people who collected coins, so yeah Nintendo cares a lot about their gamers.

  • BuckStud

I just got the email on this which is awesome as I know have enough coins in my account to buy Mario RPG!!!

    • Jon

sweet, that game is definitely worth it. Amazing game! :D

  • Zuxs13

Well now that is pretty awesome, I wonder if EA would have done the same kind of things?

    • Nintendofreak

probably would have charged you for the return

      • Zuxs13

I think they charged be for my comment.

        • Squid

          LOL AGREED

        • Nintendofreak

and charged you for putting be instead of me

    • Stephen

Why bring EA into it? Would ANY other company have done this? Probably not.

EA is not the worst evil in the world. Very, very, far from it. :/

      • Zuxs13

I brought EA into if because of the Article posted prior to this one about EA.

    • Justin Gray

I wonder the same about Microslop…

  • juancamiloarq

Hah, just wish Club Nintendo and Nintendo eShop were available worldwide. It’s very sad that out of the US and Canada you actually pay lots more for games and consoles and you get way less. It’s a shame I recently bought a Wii U and there’s no eShop in my region, since what sold me for the console was the Virtual Console…

    Best regards from Colombia.

    • wiiucompl

I know how you feel. While in Poland, there is no problem with eShop, so far I have Wii U game boxes with Club Nintendo cards and PIN untouched… ;-(

    • Dominicruz

Pon tú consola como que vives en Usa a ver sí te funciona el eshope

      • juancamiloarq

Creo que por el origen de la IP, se da cuenta de la región :S

  • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

Well that was nice of them.

  • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

    Dangit, i SHOULDVE picked it up ;~;

    • http://about.me/overlordror Ashley King

You’re not getting extra coins, just a refund. You’d have to pay $1.50 to convert your purchase to a Wii U virtual console purchase and on May 15th, it’s going to be .30 cents. There’s really no gain here.

      • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

Wonder if they will discount the upgrade for those that have it on the Wii VC or just let you repurchase for 30 cents instead of paying $1.50 to upgrade it to the Wii U.

      • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

right, but then I’d have the game and the refunded coins, wouldn’t I? Or did I miss something? (Which is probably the case :P)

        • http://about.me/overlordror Ashley King

You’d have it on Wii, yes. Do you still use your Wii along with the Wii U? I gave mine to a friend after upgrading.

          • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

you can register it on the Wii channel of the Wii U. I registered paper mario in this fashion.

  • Jon

this is nice, and Ashley, it says in the message that people may still use their code on the Wii or the Wii U so they get it for free and not 30 cents :P

    • Adrian

No. They can still get the Wii version for free. The Wii U version is 30 cents.

      • Jon

ok, well it just seems odd in that message that they’d include Wii U in there as well.

        • Linskarmo

It does seems unclear to me. Either way I’m glad Nintendo’s done this.

  • Christopher Smith

I became a platinum member when they refunded my coins.

  • Johny

    Good guy Nintendo :)

  • PachterStation

    Wow. Big deal.

  • JamesJose

    fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck!! I didn´t T_T

This is one of the only emulator games I’m dying for. Don’t get me wrong, the titles so far are nice, but nothing compares to this and a Link to the past.
Nintendo are a caring company, and they have shown they are willing to push this console even further, with their lack of success lately. I can’t wait to see mobile games come to the Wii U (if it ever does).

  • Guest

gosh… I wish they told us about this before removing it from their Nintendo Club store tho..

    • No

      They did that on purpose.

  • Kalai3

    Good Guy Nintendo. :)

I thought it was totally weird that this was one of the rewards this month.

  • Linskarmo

That’s nice of them. I thought it was odd to have the reward be Super Metroid so close to the 30 cent promotion, but I can’t say I expected this.

  • Fuzunga

I should get it for 15 cents since I already bought it on the Wii Virtual Console.

  • john

awesome still love super metroid the the best i would love to see it in hd redo.

Nintendo is all about gaming, not in the fps MLG sense, but in the original atmosphere associated with it. Wii was an excellent example of this. It may have not been “hardcore” but I have spent more time on classics like Smash Bros. Brawl, Twilight Princess, and Mario Galaxy 1 alone than the entire Halo franchise combined (and that says a lot as I play much Halo as well).

Nintendo has something up their sleeve, they are playing humble at e3 because they have some killer games coming to the Wii U. It would be nice to see some old partnerships between devs be rekindled, and it would be great for Nintendo to buy the rights to some classic gaming characters (ahem.. Conker, or Banjo Kazooie).

Nintendo’s direct videos are also brilliant, I am always excited when they come up and I am not really ever disappointed with them. They get personal and they show they care in numerous ways. The whole EA Games thing happening recently was definitely a contradiction to what EA stated before too.

Regardless, this price for metroid is legit, it’s already sold in my book I will be downloading it as soon as it is available. Thanks nintendo!
