Nintendo UK recaps 30 years of Luigi

year_of_luigi_timeline

While Luigi might not be as popular as his brother Mario, he’s had nearly the same long history and even starred in some of his own games over the years. Nintendo UK has tweeted the above image, showing off Luigi’s various appearances and designs over the years.

I remember as a kid playing Mario is Missing! on my SNES, which was a fantastic puzzle game starring the man in the green overalls. What’s your best memory of Luigi? Were you always the second player with your siblings? Or perhaps something else? Let us know in the comments below!

Cool. I like those posts so I can make comparisons.

  • InterTreble

As far as characters and games like Luigi and all Nintendo IPs will shine in this world, there will be place for fantasy and joy to play. The only recipe, perhaps the secret, to remain children. The problem is not seeing all these things in other consoles. Not the contrary.

Nintendo needs exclusives just like other companies. If that’s the case, Halo, inFAMOUS, Gears of War, God of War, and Killzone should be on all platforms as well.

You really didn’t get what he said…

You really didn’t understand what happened…

He edited his comment. Before, it read “The problem is not seeing all these in other consoles. Not the contrary.”

I meant something else, buddy. All exclusives are more than welcome, and it’s fair they are on their own platform! ;) But my comment is different. Sorry for my English, I’m not mothertongue! :P But I just said it’s a pity not playing Nintendo IPs on other platforms, while most people says it’s a pity not playing ALL the multiplaform games, often FPS, super realistic games always with same story, etc. on Nintendo consoles. Reading blogs and on line magazines this should be a problem. But for who? For Nintendo owners? Nope. For Nintendo haters! ;) Not having all those games (created just to make money) is definitely not-a-problem for us, at least until we will have that kind of masterpieces like Mario, Zelda, Metroid series, on our consoles. Games created not only thinking about money (Nintendo is still a company…) but also with the heart! ;)

You want Nintendo to give Mario a gun or somthin?

      Waluigi’s Mansion

  • CEObrainz

that 1983 game…fond memories of playing Mario Bros….

  • Clel

The funny thing is that, my older brother’s favorite character was Luigi. So, contrary to the most common thing, I was always playing Mario.

However, my favorite character was always Yoshi, followed by Luigi, and then Mario. I guess it might have to do with my favorite color being green :P

    • http://wiiudaily.com/ Monomon

      Same to me!

      • http://wiiudaily.com/ Monomon

But my favourite colour is cyan.

        • Frank

Can’t wait for the year of Yoshi. That’ll be hyped like no other year.

          • http://wiiudaily.com/ Monomon

Maybe I’m wrong, but there has already been a Year Of Yoshi.

  • JumpMan

i played Luigi’s Mansion on my cousins Gamecube when i was 3 years old?! gosh, i thought i was much older when i was introduced to videogames! brings back memories :) of videogames, not my cousin. my cousin sucks :P

    • jay

You probably played it a few years later like I did.

  • Jonn McNally

I never cared for Luigi. I used Mario in Mario Kart, Yoshi in Mario Party, Peach and DK in SSBB, and I liked the WarioWare games. Luigi is probably my least favorite of the Mario series. Perhaps Luigi’s Mansion 2 will change my mind.

  • The_fuzz_buzz

Luigi’s Mansion was hands down the best Luigi game.

  • jay

2002 Changed Luigi from Mario’s sidekick to kickass funny character.

  • tommy

    … waits for waluigi’s comment

  • Adam

I always use luigi in any mario game like Mario Party and Mario Kart, the better brother

  • http://www.mpt-online.eu/ Sylux

<– the youngest sibling of a pair so I always was player 2 therefor I was always Luigi, Mario Bros, Mario Bros 2 etc.

  • ancientgamer

i always made my lil brother play mario just so i could be luigi!

    • manowaffles

Me too! Ok, he liked Red Mario better, and I like Green Luigi better, so we were in agreement on who was which Mario brother.

  • http://nintendopapercraftvideos.wordpress.com/ Sam

He looks weird in the Dark Moon artwork.

  • https://twitter.com/AaronWrotkowski Aaron Wrotkowski

Paper Luigi is the best Luigi.

    • manowaffles

I would so love to play out his side-story from Paper Mario & the Thousand Year Door. The Super Luigi series sounds like a blast!

  • LoZ4life98

Luigi gets more attention from people than Mario, there are just more games about Mario than Luigi.

  • Mario

One of the best games I played about Luigi was Luigi mansion. (It was funny when he got scared!)

  • miiandmario

Luigi’s mansion onward was the best Luigi design in my opinion.

  • http://4812cpvideos.webs.com/ Zack4812

    Lol, nothing from 1993 to 2001. :P

    • manowaffles

He had a lot of cameos and things, playing as him in Smash Bros., Mario Kart, Tennis, Party, etc. I’m kinda sad they skipped all that.

  • Mark P

There is a ten year gap between SMW and Luigi’s Mansion. Poor Luigi.

  • 00EpicGamer00

My first Mario game ever was “Super Mario 64″ (which, Luigi doesn’t even make an appearance or is ever mentioned.)
THEN later on I played “Paper Mario” (N64 one.) That’s when I first met Luigi. (Also Luigi’s Mansion for the Gamecube is probably my favorite Luigi game ever.)

  • parad0x19

poster anyone we have a Mario one
