Predicting Nintendo’s E3

It’s finally here. Next week we’ll be celebrating the triumphs and suffering the disappointments of another Nintendo E3 extravaganza. Except this time there’ll be significantly less clapping and cheering and significantly more awkward crosses to various Nintendo bosses across the globe.

There are plenty of first party Wii U games that will definitely be appearing during the E3 Nintendo Directs, even if only in trailer form. They are:

  • Super Smash Bros.
  • Super Mario
  • The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
  • Mario Kart
  • Pikmin 3
  • New Super Luigi U

And with those out of the way, let’s get to some speculating.

Sensible predictions

Retro Studios is developing Metroid

I know there’s been so much talk about how it’s time for Retro to work on something else. But I’m getting the feeling this will be one of those times the too-obvious-to-be-true thing is actually true. I would love to see them working on something else, but remember the last Prime game was 5 years ago and the company’s put out Donkey Kong Country Returns in the meantime. It’s time to get back to basics with Metroid but in a way none of us see coming. I want a new game that’s like the original Prime was back when it was first released. Ditch the phazon and the complex storyline and let me get stranded somewhere. It’s been too long.

A Wii U interface redesign

After a good long time to monitor which features of the console should be emphasised and which should not, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Nintendo announces a rejig of how the menu screen and Wara Wara Plaza work. And introduce some folders!

Wii Sports U

I outlined some thoughts about this a couple of weeks back, and still think it would be a smart move for Nintendo. Some sections of the internet seem to think this game is already confirmed, but Nintendo’s never mentioned it. If the Wii U’s going to effectively be relaunched for the wider audience that currently doesn’t even know it exists, a new Wii Sports would be a pretty safe bet.

The new 3D Mario and Mario Kart will both be out this year

With a new Zelda and Smash Bros certainly off the cards for 2013, and with a desperate need for blockbuster summer software, I’d say these two are a shoe in for an October or November release.

The E3 Nintendo Direct will be every bit as awkward as live conference

And Iwata will hold something and look at it cryptically.

Hopeful predictions

An integrated Nintendo Network

This has been in the pipeline for ages and still has not been detailed at all. The lack of a persistent, logical form of DRM is a barrier to a lot of people spending big on digital games. Nobody likes the idea that their 3DS or Wii U could drop dead and they’d lose all their stuff. Further to that, there needs to be one account for both Wii U and 3DS as well as general online services. I put this in ‘hopeful’ because I sincerely doubt Nintendo’s got it together yet, but it would be nice. Also cross-platform game purchases please.

Virtual console subscription service

I called this one back in April and it’s still a possibility. If Nintendo has it’s networking stuff up and running they could announce a cloud-based streaming service for all their VC games. But more likely I think is a PlayStation Plus- style subscription that gives you access to the VC library and selected other games as long as you keep paying.

Sega and Nintendo will be co-developing Mario Kart

Before you fly off in a rage have a bit of a think about this one and you’ll see it makes sense. Nintendo’s stated many times its needed to reach out to others for help now it’s making games in HD. Sega’s already made two pretty decent mascot-centered kart games. It just makes sense.

Heaps of 3rd party

Probably the least likely of the lot, but Nintendo has a lot of negative press to counter in terms of third party support. A segment of their Nintendo Direct dedicated to third parties telling us what Wii U exclusives they’re working on and what games of theirs they’re porting would go a long way.

Be sure to sound off on how likely you think all this is in the comments below, as well as on what your most outlandish E3 hopes are.

Virtual Console subscription service would not fit well with me. I don’t want Nintendo getting into monthly fees and stuff like that.

    • val berger

Not sure about that. I mean, why not? I got a PS3 and I don’t care about PS Plus at all, still it seems to be nice for ppl who are more into Playstation gaming. If it’s not too hard for you to quit that subscription, I don’t see a reason not to do it. And as for example VC-prizing is so high that I know I won’t really buy much there, it would give me more opportunities to explore some games I wouldn’t have bought.

      • Scott

I’d much rather just buy and download with VC. A cloud-based service would cripple my ability to play VC as I don’t always have my consoles connected to the internet, and I don’t want to use up my monthly 12GB cap having to play online everytime I want to play a game that doesn’t require a real reason for being online anyway.

        • val berger

yeah but as I said, as long as ppl would still be able to properly buy VC games, you just won’t have to subscribe. But other ppl could profit. I for instance am online round the clock and don’t have any DL limit. But in the end, such a subscription won’t be happening anyway, so no need to get too deep into that =)

        • Jorge Aguirre

Now if they made the game pad fully portable that would be an entirely different story. Here’s the thing though, we don’t have system accounts, if your Wii U gets damaged and stops working and you’ve purchased many games on it, that’s it they’re gone forever, so that’s why we need a subscription service for cloud gaming, and other services as well and I’d gladly pay as long the services and paying are optional and not mandatory the way Xbox 360 is.

    • Jorge Aguirre

I agreed with you for a second but now that I think about it there are games on sale for 30 cents and I couldn’t purchase them because you can only add minimum funds of $10, so I say you should have the option to either buy games with $10 or have a subscription service to play cheap games as long as you keep paying monthly and that would earn Nintendo more money, increase the amount of games on the eShop, increase the possibility of Gamecube games being available on Virtual Console in HD with off screen game play, and that would very much make consumers happy as well, its a win win for everyone.

      • Andreas Sunde

On the eShop you have the option to pay the reminder with credit card. So if you’re willing to use that, there is no problem.

  • https://twitter.com/Onyzora Ony

    Metroid ;_;

  • PatcherStation

After typical Wii U releases like Mario Galaxy 3, Pikmin 3, Mario Kart 8, Metroid, Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Donkey Kong Country Returns 2, Starfox, New Super Mario Bros. 3, Mario Land 3D, Paper Mario, Smash Bros, Zelda HD, Zelda, Yoshi, Mario Party, Mario Tennis, Mario Golf, plus a few others, what then? Nintendo are way too predictable.

    • Nice Ness

So is any other company, don’t do that to Nintendo.

      • PatcherStation

Yes, but Nintendo are the biggest culprit. Nintendo are like SEGA, fans are dropping off. I’ll admit that I’m a fan of Mario Kart, but that’s about it when it comes to Nintendo games. Unless Nintendo comes up with a load of new games and giving games a justified sequel (a new Wave Race for example), it’s not going to do the Wii U any favours. Nintendo don’t have the capital and they’re not prepared to take the risk with new franchises. On top of that, I don’t think they’re as big as they’re made out to be. If there’s a next console from Nintendo, there needs to be massive changes, as in console tech and its game franchises. And Nintendo would be much more profitable if it ditched consoles, but maybe stuck with handhelds.

        • Guest

And there it came. The Nintendo should ditch consoles talk. Just face it, it will never happen. If Nintendo dies, so does their franchises. They will cease to exist. Nintendo has stated that if they go down, all their games go down with them.

          • PatcherStation

I suppose the Japanese like to fall on their sword.

        • Fred

Nintendo doesn’t have the capitol? There’s the most obvious sign that you’re ignorant they have piles of money.

Name 1 game that nintendo redoes EVERY YEAR that’s when it becomes a problem. Look at the other companys we get some games EVERY YEAR here’s a great example Madden every year for 25 years and still costs $60 each time, while with Nintendo they are doing a sequel to New Super Mario Bros U (call it DLC if you want but to me where there’s 82 levels and you can buy it on it’s own separate disc it’s a sequel) they’re only charging $20/$30 I’d much rather that!
You complain about Mario Kart and Smash Bros, but they only come out once per console how can you complain about that?

        • Fred

Plus Nintendo is doing new games on the 3DS eShop see Pushmo, Dillon’s Rolling Western, Harmoknight. I see no reason to believe that they won’t do something similar with the Wii U

    • val berger

I’m actually with you on this one. Nintendo needs more surprises. No matter what other companies do or do not, Nintendo is the company that’s known for standing out and this can’t work with always cooking the same 7 meals over and over again. I grew up with Nintendo and I’m gonna stick to them as long as I’m playing videogames, but I’m leaving out more and more games because I’m really loosing Interest in so many franchises which are always the same. What’s really cool is, that some of Nintendo’s 1st party studios like EAD are still so damn innovative, they can turn a franchise like Super Mario into a whole new experience like they did with Galaxy. But some are just totally lacking of ideas.

      • PatcherStation

E3 will probably have a few surprises, but let’s face it, I think it’s going to be a new Metroid and maybe a new Eternal Darkness. Possible new Mario RPG game or basically some new franchise with Mario in it. A new Doshin the Giant would be a tragedy. I can see a new F-Zero from SEGA at some point, maybe even shown at E3. I think Nintendo has looked at past games on the SNES, Nintendo 64 and GameCube and picked out sequels for the WIi U. I think sequels for Wave Race (GameCube) and Stunt Race FX (SNES) are due.

        • val berger

most of that would be OK as long as they would also offer something fresh. On the 3DS they have somehow managed to really use their old franchises for quite new gameplay ideas (like the dream team-game) and I wouldn’t mind seeing something like this. But although F-Zero GX was one of my 5 All time favorite games, I don’t really know if I’d buy a WiiU sequel if it’s just coming with better HD graphics, as you don’t care about graphics anyways, when racing with 500 mph.

Ooooh well, let’s just wait and see what’s coming on tuesday …

    • FoxMulder900

I don’t give a shit about predictability, the games you listed there are all I really care about. If there are some surprises thrown in, cool.

    • kenny Johnson

You mean like Halo 9, Call of Duty 7, Gears of War 8, etc?

      • Mochlum

Just because other companies rehash too, it doesn’t mean Nintendo doesn’t…

        • Rey Hardy

COD is the definition of rehash. Halo is the definition of past its prime, Gears is simply Gears Of Bore.

      • Andreas Sunde

CoD ghost is actially CoD 10.

    • Rey Hardy

Half of what you said was BS.

    • Andreas Sunde

If you’re gonna roleplay as Pachter, at least get his name right…

  • Off.Sh

Wii like Nintendo franchises, thats why they are So popular. They are always successful because they know how to innovate with Each iteraction. Some people say big N is so predictable Despite other consoles Same fps shitty games.

  • Freez0

That doesn’t make much since, they have already launched the VC service, why would they take it back from users to apply a fee?

    • Fred

If you previously bought games you’ll get to keep those even if you end your subscription

  • MTGSWE

Why nothing on Miyamotos new IP which he is developing? That could very well be shown at E3.

Retro Said they are working on something everyone wants them to do and Reggie said it was an amazing project.

    • val berger

If it’s something, everyone wants, then my guess is not a new IP but something like Metroid as this might be the one series, Retro is really known for. Which would also be great although I think, Metroid Prime 1-3 really worked out every Super-Metroid ingredient possible in many ways. I don’t really believe, that Nintendo would let Retro create their own IP. would be awesome, sure, but after Retro cancelled all own IPs, they had in development on the Gamecube (Ravenblade, *sigh*) I believe their main purpose is, like their Studios’ name says, to redo old franchises like they did with Metroid, Mario Kart and Dinkey Kong.
As I am personally starting to get sick of that overblow of old NIntendo franchises returning over and over again, I think they should at least do something outstanding. Like an Iceclimber-Action Adventure that looks like a supermodern Actiongame. Just something you wouldn’t expect. Donkey Kong Country Returns 2 for example would be an amazing game, for sure (and I’d buy it on day 1 ;) ) BUT still I could tell you already exactly what to expect from it and I think, what Nintendo really needs is a huge surprise apart from remakes and successors. If it’s something as amazing as Metroid Prime 1 was back in the day when it was announced, then this would work for me.

What I could really imagine would be Retro Studios making the next Zelda game. They could give the franchise a total new appeal while sticking to some traditional mechanics. Of course, I wouldn’t wanna lose Nintendo and Ayouma as real parents, but Metroid hasn’t lost it’s spirit just because it got outsourced ;)

      • MTGSWE

Whatever Retro is doing I’m happy if it’s fun to play.
I was talking about Miyamotos IP not if retro was doing one. I could care less if Retro makes new or use an old IP.

Right now I’m more interested to know what Miyamoto is doing. Retro is great and I expect a great game from them. Right now though, I’m interested in the supposed new Miyamoto IP

        • val berger

hehe, it’s exactly the opposite with me as I don’t care too much, what Miyamoto is doing as I know, it’s gonna be fun anyway =)

      • Leo

Gotta love this new character “Dinkey Kong”! :D

        • bizzy gie

          Dinky King for Ninvento!!

      • Rey Hardy

        STARFOX!!! STARFOX!!!STARFOX!!!

        • val berger

not essentially for me, but then again, if I think about it, the Gamepad could really add something here. commanding your wingmen, doing strategic stuff and so on. so … why not.

    • $25692128

I believe Retro said they are working on something sci-fi/space/futuristic which made everybody assume Metroid or maybe Star Fox. A Nintendo fan site posted a rumor (and I’ll stress rumor) that Retro’s game was something that people said Nintendo didn’t have the guts to do. Assuming both statements are true, I’m going to say Retro is working on an Earthbound. Itoi said it would be impossible to make an EarthBound sequel. What if it’s already done?

I have no proof this is happening, just a fun guess.

      • Rey Hardy

Nah, the devs from Earthbound said there wont ever be a new one, they wont allow it.

      • RockGod

I’m not sure so correct me if i’m wrong about this. Earthbound was released in the west, but I think it was known as Mother in Japan. If that’s the case then Earthbound already has a sequel, two actually. Japan saw release of Mother 2 & 3 exclusively in their region.
I’m pretty sure this info is accurate, just not positive. Maybe someone else could clear it up a little better?

        • Cubester_64

Mother 2 is Earthbound. Mother 3 is essentially Earthbound 2.

          • RockGod

So we didn’t get the first one and the third one? We got the second game in the series, but named as if it were the first. Yeah, that’s not confusing at all…

      • Cubester_64

        Star Fox ->cross<- Metroid

    • KosmoCrisis

Speculation is super fun. We’ll all know everything in less than a handful of days.

      • MTGSWE

        We sure do :)

    • RockGod

Retro’s “secret” project is Metroid Prime 4.
How can anyone guess Miyamoto’s new IP? It’s NEW… so you got me on that… I honestly have no clue, I’m hoping it will be something cool… NOT like Wii Music or some crap like that…

      • MTGSWE

I hope it’s a cool IP too Miyamoto is working on :)

        • val berger

Did Miyamoto ever not meet ANY demands? I think it’s more like he’s always defining new ones for their competition ;D

  • Magnus Eriksson

Way to unrealistic predictions. What we will see is:

    * Super Smash Bros Melee remake
    * Mario Kart SNES remake
    * Mario 64 remake (with *no shoe run* as an extra to the popular *no hat run*)
    * Windwaker remake
    * Pikmin 3 (with release date 2014 in the end of “relaunch window”)

    +Retro’s secret game
    * Popeye (NES) remake with HD updated graphics.

+ Special bonus release at Virtual Console:
    * Clu Clu Land (NES) (off 25% if you buy all the other games)
    * Dr. Jekyll and mr. Hyde (NES) (with extra long stick for dr. Jekyll)
    * E.T. Atari 2600 version

    • Magnus Eriksson

What I want to see is (my serious list):

      * A small taste of the new Zelda game. I feel that I need some proof (And I know how I wish it will look. Like a crossing between Twilight princess, Darksiders 2 and Skyward Sword)

      * Announcement of a new Metroid, darker than ever (This is the game that shows the pads full potential.).

      * Gamecube (Dreamcast, Saturn also most welcome) on Virtual Console. No accounts, keep it a collectors dream.

      * Yeah, wouldnt be sad over a Mario Kart and a Mario 3D either.

      • D.M.T

I’m sorry but i hope Nintendo doesn’t talk about Virtual Console at all. We don’t need announcements of old games in our E3 Nintendo Direct. I just want them to talk about NEW games, about Wii U games not GameCube games come on.

        • MTGSWE

If they have time over for VC then it’s most welcome :)
As you said though, I’m hoping all focus are on new games :P

        • Magnus Eriksson

Maybe not any games, but the support to GCN would be MOST welcome. This is something that fans have been talking non stop of.

        • KosmoCrisis

This will be an unfortunately truth then. The fact is, early Nintendo gamers like myself are in their 30’s now and would more often than not, buy an HD redux or VC game on the Wii U. Their mission must first be to sell Wii U’s. I’ll be paying attention to what they say about new console bundles.

        • Jorge Aguirre

Disagreed, maybe YOU don’t want to Virtual Console at E3 but I do and so many other people as well. We love reliving the moments, the feeling of nostalgia and with the Wii U the possibilities and combinations of released games are endless, just think about HD remastered graphics on VC games, sold trilogies they could release the Gamecube F-Zero make a new one and sell a trilogy, the Metroid Prime Trilogy series in HD with off screen gameplay and the controls compared to Gamecube would be MUCH much better, they could release a Smash Bros Trilogy (N64, GC, and Wii, again in HD, off screen), they could add the entire Legend of Zelda series, and so much more, see what I mean? I’m not saying they should take a very long time but they should give us a glimpse of future Virtual Console and many of us want to hear that they are working Gamecube Virtual Console so that its not just a concept anymore and that way were more satisfied once we hear its confirmed and maybe have them introduce the titles they’re working on for them that way we can get excited and get our wallets ready during their release dates, or we could wait till they’re on sale.

      • Ace

It is funny you mention it because in each of my post play surveys on Club Nintendo I have been asking them to do N64, GC, and Dreamcast games on the VC. There are a decent amount of Dreamcast games that were good and would be nice to have on the VC.

    • TheLordOfDarkness

      I hope you’re joking…
Why would they remake them instead of releasing completely new, updated and upgraded versions? You have an unhealthy obsession with remakes.
These games needs to evolve, Nintendo can’t just rehash what they’ve already done – even if it’s popular. That’s not ethical.

Mario Kart SNES, while it makes no sense to release a 2D game and ‘devolve’ the series, could work if they release a graphically improved version of it for the Virtual Console.

      • Magnus Eriksson

im joking. Didn’t catch that even at the *Mario no shoe run* or E.T. on Atari 2600?

        • TheLordOfDarkness

There’s a lot of people making a lot of ridiculous suggestions, it’s hard to tell sometimes :/

          • Magnus Eriksson

Sure, but Dr. Jekyll’s long stick should have gived it away?

Anyway, made a serious list under here. I called it my serious list.

          • RockGod

Yeah, you didn’t fool me for a second. I knew you had to be joking with that list… especially ET for 2600… I had that game and if you ever played it, you’d hope it stayed dead forever.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Played it. Nothing more to say…

        • Cubester_64

I want a SSBM remake. It was the only game where Kirby’s weight was perfect. Among other things

    • D.M.T

You’re always joking aren’t you? Lol stop scaring me everytime I read your comments :P Nah I’m kidding, at least you’re making it obvious now and you’re being honest with us and yourself.

    Yawn…early good morning,America.

  • Nintedward

Let’s all leave our predictions on this page and then after E3 if you mysteriously get some of them right , you can link back !

    – Retro’s new game is a Metroid Spin off game focused on the Galactic federation

    – Wave race splashes back on to the scene in one form or another (please god)

    – Virtual console , Gamecube , Saturn and Dreamcast games are on the way.

    – Smash bros has Shulk , Magnus and Goku .

    -Smash bros coming q1 2014

    – Mario kart has track editor with Miiverse integrated sharing

    – New Kirby game teased or unveiled for Wiiu.

    • TheLordOfDarkness

Smash Bros Q2 2014 is my opinion, but I don’t think Goku will be in it. Mr Saturn will stay as a weapon. We’re most likely to get King K Rool or Waluigi. K Rool gives us DK and Diddy and then a 3rd. Waluigi can give Wario a 2nd, but it’s possible we’ll get Krystal for 4th Star Fox if they don’t want to overload and inadvertently focus on one series.

With Mario Kart, I hope there’s some feature that really differs this from other MK games. Like the difference from MK64 to Double Dash. Track editor could work amazingly well, or some sort of gameplay mechanic with the 2nd controller like an aiming function for weapons.

      • Rey Hardy

Smash Bros Wii U version 1st half of 2014. Smash Bros 3DS this holiday season.

        • TheLordOfDarkness

They’ll release at the same time, if not the same time frame.

    • Clel

More Yarn Yoshi please please please pleeeeeease

Uhuh! That’s more of a cert than a prediction though. I recon it will launch december-ish this year.

        • MTGSWE

I hope they make a new Wave race someday :D I would buy it day 1.

    • Tim van Broekhoven

      Goku, that will be amazing!

I would LOVE to see Shulk in Smash Bros!!!

      What have I left out?

      Can’t wait for next week!

    • RockGod

      Predictions? ok sounds fun…
Retro Studio is making Metroid Prime 4
With HD and more memory on Wii U they could make a vastly improved Endless Ocean game (people tend to forget that new IP from the Wii)
I agree with you on the VC stuff and the Smash release window, but I don’t wanna debate Smash characters. That can get crazy!
I don’t know if Sega is co-producing Mario Kart or not, but I long predicted that Sonic will be in the new game, I still stand by that.
Any new info on X would make me very happy :D

Also a reference to the fact that Nintendo won’t have a live conference for the first time since forever. It will be eerie and quiet without that live audience.

  • Christopher Acuna

I don’t know what they have planned. All of their announcements pre E3 have not hyped me at all. The potential for the WiiU and the tragic launch that it had is what makes me excited for this E3. Nintendo has to damage control what happened @ last years E3 and the launch window of the WiiU, and the only way they can do that is by blowing the minds of the gaming community. There are 3 things that can happen next week for Nintendo.
    1. They will make everyone who doubted them eat their words.
    2. People will still be indifferent but the hardcore loyal Nintendo Nation will continue to stand up for the Big N.
    3. They XONE the whole damn thing. And we are left just as confused as we were the passed 2 Nintendo E3’s.
All in all they will either surprise are pants off or disappoint us all into Oblivion.
The XONE – meh, they’ve lost me, eventually I will purchase the console because I like to have all gaming machines but it will not happen for at least 2 years lol.
The PS4 – As long they don’t follow the XONE route they have my money ready and waiting for launch day.

  • SeroReviews

I think they will at least show a screenshot of the Zelda U. Come on, they want to hype us…

    • val berger

Hopefully. On the other hand, one of Nintendo’s current policies seems to be not to show anything that’s not being released within a year. At least that’s what it looks like if you think of the past few directs. But maybe they’ll make an exception. They should really know, that a little bit of hype wouldn’t hurt …

      • kenny Johnson

        Didn’t they show a demo of Wonderful 101 at last year’s E3?

        • Rey Hardy

Well it was RIGHT after their E3 but it was a launch title but DELAYS!!!!

          • Jorge Aguirre

I think that’s how they bypass their policies, they show a trailer and delay so they don’t violate their policies, but seeing Nintendo’s actions I can tell they’ve gotten in trouble for that.

        • val berger

… when it was scheduled for the launch window ;D

    • ZeroReviews

Please also a trailer! I PRAY! Dang saaaan!

    Predicting Nintendo’s E3 (condensed version):

    • val berger

      lol whaaaat the hell =)

    • Super Buu

E3 gifs, an endless source of fun.

    • Adam Neighbors

      There was a FIRE FIGHT!

      • Bob Charlie

Beat me to it Adam! One of the best scenes in the film.

    • LopsidedPasta

If Sega co-devolps MK, and Sega characters are in it, I will strongly consider not buying it. I want MARIO Kart for MARIO characters. It’s not called Sonic Kart. Also, what movie is this gif from?

      • Edward

        Boondock Saints.

        • LopsidedPasta

          thanks

      • Clel

        Boondock Saints

        (the shoot-out scene)

      • Jorge Aguirre

I’m sure Nintendo is working on expanding the Mario Kart roster and they can’t do that without introducing new characters, they’ll probably do that as guest characters limiting the amount of new characters. Personally though I won’t mind if Nintendo went all out and created a Smash Bros Kart racing with the biggest roster ever from all the gaming companies you can dream off.

        • http://rustyshell.com/ zinger

sonic will never appear in mario kart.

          • NintendoNoob

            never say never

          • RockGod

Actually I’m not sure if Sega is co-developing the game or not, I don’t think there will be a bunch of Sega characters in the game either. The ONE thing that i’m nearly certain of though is that Sonic WILL be in this Mario Kart game.

      • Phoenix Maybe

As much as I like the Sonic franchise, you have a point. It’s called MARIO KART for a reason.

      • Nintendofreak

i always think of mortal kombat when i hear or see mk

    • wiiucompl
      • Phoenix Maybe

Now make them carry giant fruit and you could be the fourth captain in Pikmin 3!

      • MetroidZero

        HAHA! Nice!

    • Cubester_64

I don’t get it. Why is Reggie shooting Iwata?

      • Clel

He isn’t shooting Iwata. In case you didn’t notice, there are enemies on the outskirts of the house, and it’s a gunfight. Iwata is just dancing around, waving his arms about, celebrating.

  • herz

    My hopes:

    Super Smash Bros.
    Super Mario
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
    Mario Kart
    Pikmin 3
    New Super Luigi U
    Rare IP
    Miyamoto IP
    Yarn Yoshi
    X
    Gamecube VC
New Kirby or a totally new IP

    • Fred

      And the chanting begins X X X X X X X

    • Nickdawg

Rare IP as in Rareware? I really flipping hope so, I want Rare to come back to Nintendo so badly! Screw Microsoft!

      • herz

i really wish nintendo would get Rare back. Microsoft has destroyed it’s once greatness.

        • Rey Hardy

Why would Nintendo want Rareware back? There a Kinect Developer now there is not 1 single original Rareware developer left from the Nintendo days.

          • RockGod

Interesting side note… several developers from the old Rare studio are now working in Retro studio. so their kind of like our new Rare, just with no Banjo Kazooie :(

          • Rey Hardy

Oh please Retro Studio’s far surpassed Rareware long ago.

          • RockGod

I’ll agree with you on that Rey, but it would still be nice to have those Rare IPs like Banjo Kazooie, Conker, and Perfect Dark. I’m sure Nintendo would make better games with them than MS has.

          • Dan Jacobson

maybe nintendo will buy banjo back and that is retros new game at e3 :)

          • RockGod

How I wish that would happen, it would be awesome. Sadly it’s not happening. Besides i’m pretty sure what Retro’s project is and I wouldn’t wanna miss out on that either.

          • val berger

We don’t necessarily need another Banjo Kazooie but an original platformer crafted with love. If the minds are open enough, they’ll be able to create some great alternative, if they’d just want to.

        • Jorge Aguirre

That be really cool if they could start the E3 Direct with Reggie saying something like “good news, we brought Rareware back” and then have Iwata say, “Please understand, Wii U is awesome”

    • RockGod

Thumbs up for the list but I think you meant Retro IP… not Rare IP.

  • XelaFury

Whatever Retro Studios is working on, it should be amazing like Reggie said.

I hope they show more footage of Yoshi Wii U & Yoshi’s Island 3DS. Yoshi’s games have been heavily criticized for being “too easy to beat” in the past, so I really hope Nintendo makes these 2 new Yoshi games more challenging.

Miyamoto’s new IP…… it needs to be shown at this ND, we need to know what it is and how it will be like.

I know a lot of people wouldn’t like the idea of having a Mario & Sonic Kart crossover as the 3rd Sonic exclusive, but I think that would be awesome. Just my opinion.

As I said before on one of my old comments, I hope SSB4 has a Story Mode because the Subspace Emissary was just fantastic and proved that you don’t need voice acting or bubble texts to tell a story. And to end this comment, I also hope they reveal the official name for SSB4 just to give an end to these Strife/Universe stuff.

  • Jim Wanstall

October – November Mario Kart U release , I’ll ave some of that !

  • NyallJodhan

What will push sales for Nintendo, is for them to announce one of their blockbuster IPs and then say: Available for purchase immediately after this show!

    • Clel

That tactic actually never works. It’s too sudden, people haven’t saved up their money for it, there’s no build-up for the hype… it’s not so great. I would love that for myself and the rest of us Nintendo fans, but it really does not work for the casual gamers.

      • D.M.T

Casual gamers won’t watch Nintendo’s E3 Direct or at least most of them won’t

      • Rey Hardy

What would work is, Smash Bros 3DS Version Online Public Beta available RIGHT AFTER THE E3 DIRECT!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sidney-Majurie/100000713312752 Sidney Majurie

Remember when Sega announced surprisingly that the Saturn was available right after E3 ’95? Yeah, that didn’t turn out to well :D

  • Vextrum

5 years?!? DKCR came out in 2010…

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sidney-Majurie/100000713312752 Sidney Majurie

They were talking about Metroid Prime 3…

  • D.M.T

I see everyone is making predictions so why not me?

    – Retro Studios is working on more than 1 game. They are working on Metroid and they are working on a game that was cancelled for the Wii aka Project HAMMER or something else

    – Nintendo will announce that they are developing a sport game for Wii U. This is in response to EA and 2K Sports not supporting Wii U. They will announce a new Wave Race game or a new 1080 Snowboarding game.

    – Nintendo will announce that other colors will be available for Wii U: ‘Blue, purple, gold and a platinum Wii U’

    – Nintendo will announce a big 3rd party game coming to Wii U. It will be a game that a lot of us didn’t expect like GTA 5 or something else.

    – They will show us trailers of Mario games, Smash Bros., Bayonetta 2, Xenoblade 2, Shin Megami X Fire Emblem, Wind Waker HD, New Zelda, Wonderful 101, Yarn Yoshi, Pokemon Rumble U.

    • Rey Hardy

Didnt expect? I have been saying GTA5 would be on Wii U for awhile now. I still think it will especially since it was apparently running on Wii U in the early development.

  • dk mario

    my predictions are that:

new 3d mario you will be able to play as mario or luigi and there will more 120 stars maybe 150 releases date october 2013

there maybe one more suprise with a third party developer or one of nintendos team making starfox

  • mar laguna

why do u say co´op with sega mario kart is only marioooooooo it will be something very od and not good

    • RockGod

If Sega is co-producing it, then I think their more or less just helping get the game finished as soon as possible. The new Mario Kart will remain true to Nintendo’s vision for the game. Sega helping or not won’t effect the quality of the game, or (as I believe) the fact that Sonic will appear as a playable character in the game. Of course that would mean a track based on him and specialized vehicles for him, just as with all other characters in the game.

  • Ghenry Perez

Sega helping out Mario Kart development?

GREAT! It’s going to be boring as hell now. All-Stars Racing Transformed is the most boring and underwhelming racing game ever made.

    • Fred

Are you kidding me? I liked it A LOT MORE than Mario Kart Wii or Mario Kart 7!!!

    • Boris

I agree, I quickly lost interest in it. I don’t think they are doing a crossover anyways because the third sonic title is supposed to be released next year and Mario kart is supposed to be out in the holidays

    • SeroReviews

I Agree. Sonic Racing just feels… weird. It’s beautiful and everything, but… oh well. And Sonic doesn’t need a car to race! Come on, it’s Sonic! Mario need a car, not Sonic! LOL

    • Mochlum

I honestly liked Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed WAY better then Mario Kart 7 AND Wii. I just thought the sense of speed was way cooler, it actually changed from the previous game, and was overall more fun. The only thing I prefer in Mario Kart is the multiplayer and the tracks. Eh, maybe it’s not for everybody.

  • Fred

“Sega’s already made two pretty decent mascot-centered kart games. It just makes sense.”

    Wrong Not pretty decent, GREAT!

Mario Kart Wii<Mario Kart 7<Sonic and All-Starts Racing Transformed

I'd love to see Sega get Mario Kart right and since I like my Sonic Racing on Wii U better than my Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart 7 I'm excited for that possibility.

As for my outlandish hope, I'd love nothing more than Monolith Soft to Announce that X is coming THIS YEAR!

    • Fred

I don’t know why that looks like it does, but I was trying to say that I like Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed more than Mario Kart Wii or Mario Kart 7 and that my hope for this year is that X (Xenoblade sequel) will be released before Christmas.

      • RockGod

Well ok then, I respect your opinion, but I think you know most are going to disagree with you. Sega may or may not be working with Nintendo in making Mario Kart U, but regardless it seems that Sonic will be playable in the new MK game. Would that make you happy or not?

        • Fred

The problem has nothing to do with the characters. i couldn’t care less weather it’s Mario or Sonic driving the car I care about how much fun it is. Mario Kart Wii and 7 drive me crazy because I can be half a lap in head of the 2nd place guy and then get hit by 2 consecutive blue shells on the last lap and take 6th place. I’m cool with weapons, but in Sonic racing the weapons don’t bring you to a full and complete stop they only slow you down plus there are defenses against EVERY weapon. I loved Mario Kart 64 liked Double Dash and hated Wii & 7 because of things like that. If they fix it for the new one I’ll love it, if they don’t I won’t buy it.

  • Rolando Belber

One game I want to see is Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem. This a game people are forgetting and imho should start getting excited for.

  • http://www.w-o-n.org/ GoldDreams

I couldn’t careless about a new Metroid game. I’d rather see a new Earthbound, Star Fox, F-Zero or anything than another crappy fps Metroid game.

    • Rolando Belber

What the hell are you smoking. The Metroid Prime series help define the Gamecube era. The only way you could hate any Metroid Prime game is if you couldn’t beat them.

      • MTGSWE

I’m yet to play them. I have thought about it for quite some time now and they seem to be really good FPS. I don’t really like FPS games to be honest :P

        • Matthew Maldonado

They’re not really even FPS games. They have lock-on and circle-strafing as their core combat mechanics, which is a world away from the FPS free-aiming gameplay. They were always labeled First-Person Adventures instead.

          • MTGSWE

Okey. I see the difference. It’s looks like a cool game though.

          • RockGod

Yes, the entire Metroid Prime series is Amazing. They really do keep the essence and style of 2D Metroid games, just in 1st person perspective. Not just that but add a lot of cool stuff on top of that (like scanning things to learn about them). If you can find it I’d highly recommend getting Metroid Prime Trilogy for Wii. All three games on one disc with improved visuals and WiiMote controls. Be warned though, it was released as a Collector’s Edition and could be a bit expensive.

          • MTGSWE

It do cost a bit, especially if it’s new. I also have to get a nunchuk then. I will look into it later when I have the money for it. :)

      • http://www.w-o-n.org/ GoldDreams

In my opinion the perfect way to ruin a great series is by taking it First Person. I despise all things FP. The worst genre gaming has to offer by far.

        • Liam

FP is not a genre… its a camera angle
if the camera floated 6 feet behind samus’ head would that fix prime for you?

        • NkoSekirei

u got no taste dude seriously theres nothing wrong with fps unless its cod then u have something to complain about but metroid prime took it to another level giving us huge world to explore, epic soundtracks, epic boss fights, and tons of cool weapons to power up samus

          • RockGod

The Metroid Prime series is Not even considered FPS. It is actually an FPA series. example: how many times do you get lost EXPLORING in CoD, how well do the platforming mechanics work in CoD, When’s the last time you got stuck on a puzzle in CoD?
Completely different experiences and in my opinion FPA much greater than FPS just in general.

        • Rey Hardy

Metroid Prime being First Person is better. Its like your Samus.

    • Matthew Maldonado

Of the ones you mentioned, only Earthbound has ever had a legacy as strong as Metroid, and the creator of Earthbound said there’d be no Mother 4.

And Metroid is an amazing series. As long as the new game is nothing like Other M, we’re going to be getting pure gaming gold.

      • http://www.w-o-n.org/ GoldDreams

I liked other M. IMO it’s the only home console Metroid game worth playing in the past decade.

        • Spike Ashford

Other M is a good game, but you seem to be missing the whole point of the Prime games. Metroid Prime is to Metroid what Ocarina of Time was to Zelda. It takes the core mechanics, the style and all that good stuff and merely updates it to the 3rd dimension. Just because it’s a first-person game doesn’t make it bad, if anything it makes the Metroid universe feel more alive.

      • Rey Hardy

While the Primes were better, I enjoyed Other M.

    • [000]

Crappy fps Metroid game? Please, don’t say things you would strongly regret.

The Prime series is worlds away from other shooters. (Literally)

      • http://www.w-o-n.org/ GoldDreams

I don’t and won’t regret my opinion. I hate first person games. It’s a sure fire way to ruin any franchise.

        • NkoSekirei

dont bother posting u douche and dont go insulting one of the best ips nintendo ever created

          • http://www.w-o-n.org/ GoldDreams

That is all a matter of opinion. The only one who is being a douche is yourself. The one who has to resort to name calling cause someone doesn’t agree with their opinion. Sue me, I hate the Metroid Prime games. I am not saying Metroid is a bad franchise. Metroid is awesome. But to me Prime is the worst of the Metroid series. I’m not flaming everyone else for disagreeing. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. That’s what the internet is for. Sharing your opinion with others. Some agree, some don’t. But I’m going to post my opinion whether people want to hear it or not. Just like everyone else on the net. Don’t agree… Then move on.

        • RockGod

Link, Mario, and Samus would all strongly disagree with that very narrow minded view.

      • Rey Hardy

Agree, Metroid Prime 1-3 were some of the BEST games ever made.

    • NkoSekirei

dont be a bitch dude metroid is an epic game series except for Other M and im hoping retro is working on the next metroid game.

    • Mochlum

I don’t think Metroid is crappy, but I would MUCH prefer a new Earthbound, Starfox, or F-Zero. Nintendo rarely does Starfox and F-Zero, and do I even need to mention Earthbound? Nintendo for some reason hates the fans of it…

      • RockGod

Star Fox & F-Zero are both possible (future) releases.

Earthbound… a new one is not possible. Japan saw release of the entire trilogy of Earthbound (Mother) games already and Nintendo said 3 ended the series. You could still hope for a trilogy bundle that might get published in your region or even remakes.
Honestly I think their making Metroid Prime 4… biggest giveaway to support that is the cliffhanger ending in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. They’ve been planning MP4 for a long time…

      • Rey Hardy

Nintendo wasnt the main developer behind Earthbound they dont have the full rights to make a new one. Brownie Brown and HAL Laboratory were and they have said THERE WONT BE A NEW ONE. They want Mother 3 to be the end and thats that.

  • Jack5221

Yarn Yoshi!!! Has everyone already forgotten that game? :( They talked about it for about 2 min during their valentine direct (I think), saw some gameplay and we have not heard about it since. Looks like a good game that could be released this holiday season. Also I would like to hear about the new Zelda. It wont be coming out any time soon, but a little info on it would be cool. :D

    • Fred

No, but i don’t like Yoshi’s Island or Kirby’s Epic Yarn so I’m not excited about it. I am stoked out of my mind for Monolith Soft’s X so that’s what I want to hear about!!!

    • Rey Hardy

YOSHI LAND U, NOT FUCKING YARN YOSHI!!! Yoshi and The Mystic Yarn is even a better name then Yarn Yoshi.

    • Luke Wilson

Stop putting Wii U on everything!

      • Spike Ashford

        Just did. Get over it.

        • RockGod

Nice list Spike! I think your 3rd party wishlist contains some games that are just that though… wishes… but it’s hard to say what will or won’t come to the console, we’ll have to wait and see.

          • Spike Ashford

I know a ton of them are really unlikely, but I can dream. Also, who knows, we might be seeing more big series come to Wii U at a later date if not this year. Only time will tell I suppose.

    • Andreas Sunde

Do we really want Silent Hill on WiiU? Considering the terrible job they did with the HD collection…

      • Spike Ashford

I understand that the HD Collection was an abomination. The thing is that Konami have been taking steps to make Silent Hill better and I think it would be great to see the series come to Nintendo when that happens.

  • only god can judge me

3Rd party games no longer exist on the wii u nba 2k14and madden as well as many other 3rd party games are all skipping wii u.Ps4 and xbox one will leave nintendo behind in the dust .Different system same scenario zelda and mario for ages lol people are tired of it.

you forgot Wii Fit U, its on the Nintendo website.

Hopefully we see more 3rd party support (GTA V please).

  • pandaman27

I dont get the Sega/Nintendo Mario Kart thing. I mean, its not the LEAST likely thing that could happen, but…

First of all, Sega said that they aren’t getting their third sonic title out on the Wii U this year. Meanwhile, there is almost no doubt in my mind that the next Mario Kart on the Wii U ABSOLUTELY will be out this year because of sheer necessity. That alone is reason enough for me to believe that this rumor makes no sense.

Also, Mario Kart’s are typically such a vanilla experience. I really doubt Nintendo radicalizes a title that sold 30 million+ units. If it isnt broke, don’t fix it, and I doubt Nintendo will try that route.

  • Leo

This New Super Luigi U artwork gives a sense of what an open world Mario game could be *—*

Assuming CVG really had some insight on big exciting news for Wii U, I’m still wondering if Nintendo is going to announce something really BIG and shocking. It seems unlikely that it would be JUST a big game announcement. As unlikely as many of you think it is, I’m going to say that Nintendo will announce that you can play DS/3DS on the Wii U Gamepad. :) I can dream.

    • Andreas Sunde

USB DS cartridge reader for WiiU? Yes please!

  • Edward

If they are working on a Wii U sports game here is a few things I would like on it:
    1. Online
    2. Leagues and stats on all the games(especially bowling). Rankings would be nice too.
    3. More courses for golf and longer than 9 holes
    4. Boxing p4p champs (online)
    5. Tournaments
    6. A combination of Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort with online services.

All of these things would bring replayability to an all time high.

    • Mochlum

I would like those. I would also like a few new sports that use the gamepad, and customization/exploration of the island.

  • Rey Hardy

The team at Retro that made the Prime’s DOESN’T FULLY EXSIST ANYMORE. Lead level designer for example works at 343i and made Halo 4. MP4 from Retro WOULDNT BE ANYTHING LIKE THE ORIGINAL 3. Its Starfox!

    • Rey Hardy

What the fuck? Some noobs thumbs down the truth? DENIAL much.

      • RockGod

I don’t think people are in denial Rey. Nintendo owns all the previous material and concepts from the Metroid Prime series and Retro (which still actually has many devs that DID work on those projects) and the fact that Prime 3 had a cliffhanger ending, meaning they were already planning to make Prime 4 when finishing 3. So most likely we’re about to see what Metroid Prime can be in HD with added GamePad features.

        • Rey Hardy

Just cause they left a cliff hanger in Metroid Prime 3 doesnt mean they were planning a MP4. Look at Bungie with Halo 3 there was a huge cliffhanger yet Bungie had no plans to go past it.

  • Nookling

Why does everyone forget about Yarn Yoshi? That game will be awesome!

    • Rey Hardy

Yoshi Land U, not Yarn Yoshi.

I just can’t imagine what Nintendo is up to with this new 3D Mario…
Maybe something related with Mario Sunshine, but not a direct sequel?
Maybe Mario discovers an underwater city and gain aquatic powers? (ok, i want a little too far here lol)
This year will be extremely great for gamers; not only for Nintendo fans, but also to Sony and Microsoft ones (even though i don’t like the Xbox One).
    Hooray!

    Luna, the Moonrider~
    “The Eclipse is upon you!”

    Currently all of our
account information, if you like to call it that way, is stored in each system
(Wii u and 3DS). So, the problem with an integrated Nintendo Network were our
Nintendo Id is shared between our consoles is that this data will need to be
stored in a database of Nintendo, in other words, it will require a Cloud
Storage Service that will cost money to Nintendo. In this case, they will be
offering a service that practically nobody does for free (nor Sony and especially
not Microsoft with XBLive). So, to get this kind of system of shared accounts I
believe that a good deal for this would be Nintendo doing it for free but only
for account data (id, money from eshop) BUT in order to make money they can
create a service called Nintendo Plus where you pay a monthly fee to get Cloud Storage
for Save Data from Games, a register of our consoles, so we can redownload our
games to another system if our console breaks, space to store more Friends and, I don’t know, other stuff they can come up with. The point is that they need to create a BUSINESS
model that makes profit for them and benefits for us. Otherwise, they won’t
    take risks with their money.

    My predictions:

*3D Mario will be an original 64-style game. It will have a huge detailed overworld and large worlds.
*Mario Kart will be a Double Dash sequel that involves the Game-Pad being used majorly (to use the items, while the other player in the kart can drive)
*A Smash Bros trailer showing off new features, characters, and of course, epic music.
*Retro’s project will either be Metroid or Starfox. Both of them are sci-fi, haven’t had games in a while, and could use the Game-Pad in cool ways.
*Miyamoto’s new IP will be an RPG that looks realistic and crap. To try to attract a more “hardcore” crowd that the Wii U was supposed to have.
*Maybe some gameplay footage of games like Wii Party U, Yarn Yoshi, Sonic Lost World, Mario and Sonic 4, and Wind Waker HD.
*I have a feeling they may combine that Gamecube VC idea with the subscription VC idea. Like, you can download the regular NES or SNES games, and the bigger 64 or Gamecube games can be used on the subscription program. It may save room on your system.
*A few technical fixes and a price drop on the basic bundle.
*Probably no F-Zero, Earthbound, or Kid Icarus…. even though I would #&@(ing love them and would buy them Day 1….

  • XroyD

    F-Zero!!!!

  • Scott

Sega working on Mario Kart will never sound right. The Sonic racing games over the last few years were “just ok”. They didn’t have any flare to it, and felt like the run-of-the-mill cartoon racing game, bland. Mario and Sonic Racing games are just too different, so I wouldn’t support that.

  • Scott

I see a lot of people talking about wanting the next 3D Mario to be Sunshine 2 or Galaxy 3.

Am I the only one who wants Super Mario 64 2? Not specifically a sequel to a 17-year old game, but a new game made in the same vein, with exploration and star-catching. I would also love the world to be OPEN. Nintendo have forgotten how to make open world games since 2006.

Last original open-world 3D game Nintendo made was Twilight Princess.

  • Cubester_64

it’s time for nintendo to seriously shine, and why not just be on E3 with a conference. the ”do things different” doesn’t work out so well in my opinion. i’ve seen so much pikmin3 already..luigi U, nahh.. deliver nintendo come on now..it took too long, way too long..

  • paulthevgking

has everyone forgot about yarn yoshi and x?

  • Inviable Gaming

I am a Nintendo fan but man Nintendo has fucked up their is about 3 or games I might get when they at least get a 25% price cut.
