Analyst says fate of Wii U depends on fall game lineup

wii-u-dark

Analysts are pretty well known for stating the obvious, but at least this time it’s not Michael Pachter. Baird analyst Colin Sebastian spoke candidly to Games Industry about the current state of the industry, saying that the Xbox One could be poised to outship the PlayStation 4 by a 3 to 1 ratio. Sebastian attributes this to the reversal in online policies that were hotly debated before and during E3 before Microsoft’s reversal.

He also had some words to say about the Wii U, stating that the fate of Nintendo’s console largely depends on the games it can bring to this holiday lineup.

“The fate of the platform will likely rest on the popularity of Nintendo’s holiday software lineup.”

What do you think of the estimates for the Xbox One versus PlayStation 4? Will Nintendo’s fall lineup be enough to spark interest? Let us know in the comments below.

Didn’t Pachter also say the other day that Nintendo dominates the handheld market and has great 1st party titles?

The guy speaks out of his behind. How does he still have a job as an analyst after contradicting himself and getting it wrong so many times?

    • Clel

Because news sites continue to report it. They don’t let him fade away.

      • Zombie Boy

        Ah, like AIDs?

    • Jon

it wasn’t Pachter that said this one

      • Zombie Boy

You’re right. Sorry, I just see his name in an article, read that someone’s talking crap and automatically make the connection.

        • Andreas Sunde

Can’t really blame you for that.

    • Magnus Eriksson

I think Pachter is great. Love to cite him when I want to make people angry :)

    • Yousif Alromaithi

Because he publishes article at New York Times so people believe his claims. He did that before Wii U launch. Guy is ignorant how the hell they hired him for this job and speaking bad things about the founder facebook. This guy make millions so who cares what you think about him. Stupid Pachter just trys to act like a man.

  • Ballzbeard

The other consoles don’t really have anything to go on this holiday, so hopefully the Wii U’s beefed up library can take advantage of the holiday season this go round.

  • Clel

Analyst is just shorthand for Captain Obvious.

    • boynhisblobs

What nintendo should have done was release their best games at launch with 20 more every week to follow!
      Thanks Captain Obvious!

Not in Pachter’s case. For him, it’s Captain Obviously Wrong.

        You mean Captain Opposite Day.

    • Yousif Alromaithi

Nintendo will improve fortunes next console now it needs to focus on Wii U. Also buy atlus if it can.

  • kinghenroc187

yes it will with watchdogs people will see that it will look just as the ps4 version then that will spark some hype then the real nintendo fans will feel like kids again and then get 3d mario and then its over plus more games cross gen games nintendo is the only one doing that i believe in the wii u nintendo hasn’t revealed all there cards yet they just waiting for the other two to arrive is just that simple

    • Guest

It doesn’t look like the PS4 version. There were already gameplay videos of the Wii U version and you see a quite big difference.

      • RoyRelapse

Wait what, gameplay videos of the WiiU Watch_Dogs version ? you must be a hacker or a magician to have seen those, source please !

        • Nintenjoe82

Nintendo had it on their post-e3 3rd party games reel. It looked quite a step down from the initial demos that we’ve seen but it would not surprise me in the slightest if the next gen versions of the cross gen games don’t look anywhere near as good as the dev kit/PC versions we’ve been seeing.

          • RoyRelapse
          • Nintenjoe82

Update neither confirms or denies anything. If that is the Wii U version, that footage looks like it has less special effects than PS4 but as I said, it would not surprise me if the PS4 game looked exactly the same in motion.

          • kinghenroc187

yes that one in the beginning when he gets in the car you see the wii u y botton

          • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

XBOX 360 and XB1 has a “Y” button as well

          • kinghenroc187

they do… but you wont see mario for any reason on xbox that was a nintendo direct meaning directly from them no chance it was xbox one

          • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

What is also true is video footage shown may not be from the console that is being represented. Happens all the time in commercials and in presentations.

      • kinghenroc187

i have a wii u and i saw it on the eshop nintendo direct from nintendo at native 1080p i saw it different.. it was only 10 seconds of but it was long enough for me to see.. i saw a wii u (Y) BOTTON THAT THE PS4 doesn’t have… on top of that you are just wrong except that because is facts every wii u owner knows that you are a troll keep it moving.

        • Nintenjoe82

He’s telling the truth (this is PS4 version):

Listen to the commentators then find the Nintendo Direct footage

        • RoyRelapse

Xone and X360 have both Y,X,A,B buttons too, don’t forget that

          • kinghenroc187

they do… but you wont see mario for any reason on xbox that was a nintendo direct meaning directly from them no chance it was xbox one or 360

          • Ice Climbers

Nintendo has used footage from the 360 versions of games before. Last year’s third party sizzle reel used footage from the PS3/360 version for any game that wasn’t a Wii U exclusive.

          • RoyRelapse

They used xbox 360 footage when they announced the WiiU, so I can’t rely on that vid.

Edit: that was for 3rd party games ofcourse.

  • boynhisblobs

Honestly, after seeing all the xbox one and ps4 in action during comic con, they really are not any better looking in graphics than the Wii U. Its something that everyone is going to notice after their launch. As a lot of people say now that its hard to distinguish a 360 game from a Wii U game, the same applies for ps3 to ps4 and xbox360 to xbox one. The leap this generation is not in visuals at all, its in content.
Seriously, the best game I played in the graphics department was Bayonetta 2 hands down. The x1 and ps4 both look cool and have cool controllers, but after in store demos hit target and walmart after release, the general public will come to see that their current system looks the same….
Will the fall lineup looking amazing for Nintendo, I think they’ll come around by Christmas.

    • Jon

well, we are getting to the point in technology where the graphical differences are just hard to notice now which is why it always baffles me when people go on about getting this better object gives better graphics when you cannot really tell the difference unless you really look at it closely.

      • boynhisblobs

Exactly, you need to pause the game to really see everything. Sonic Lost World was like this. He moves so fast that the beautiful visuals just fly right by you. Only when I paused it did I notice how great the world around me looked.

      • jay

        Nintendo fans win here.

The Wii U is a GIGANTIC leap from the Wii :D

XBone is a tiny skip :(

        Ps4 is a tiny skip :,(

        • FROY ROMERO

Gigantic leap yes, good leap, i don’t know with every thing that’s going on and i shouldn’t have have to say it its pretty obvious

        • Ramm

Gigantic leap from 2000 to 2006.

      • Andreas Sunde

Aestethics > graphics. The Zelda U tech demo from 2011 looks far better than anything I’ve sen on the other next gen consoles, and that was made on unfinished hardware.

      • Adam Porter

true, i was playing final fantasy X today and it’s still a great game despite being a bit dated graphics wise, it’s still a better game than anything that came out since. Compare that to FFVII which i’ve never played because tbh the visuals just make my head hurt.

        • Baum 「ツリー」

Nobody seems to like my FF12 :/

And it’s not even a bad thing, that you didn’t play 7…Crisis Core was good, but Cloud is one of the worst characters I know ^^

    • everyone

It seemed that Nintendo was a bigger promotional force at Comic Con over the other game systems.

      • Veries Seals

Some people may get made at me for saying this butI really think this is true. I honestly don’t think the PS4 has a lot of interesting games yet. They only have a couple or attention grabbers. I think the Xbox one has more interesting games in their line up when it comes to creativity. And to be more honest than that, I feel that the Nintendo E3 line up was actually better than the PS4 and at a tight race with the Xbox one. But if you break that down even further you can really buy either or with the PS4 or the Xbox one because when you read the small print at the end of the day they also say also available on the other console. They will truly need their exclusives to set each other apart. The Wii U already has those and have more on the Way. I am started the call the PS4 and XBox one me too boxes.

      • lonewolf88

idk but the legend of korra was all i cared about at comic con sorry but i love that series.

    • val berger

I kinda agree & disagree here as I personally think that those ps4xbone games are looking far better than anything seen on the WiiU, but it just doesn’t really matters. with the PS360 generation, games have already reached a state where they just are able to deliver enough visual strength to carry enough gameplay mechanics. I’m sure, some good developers may be able to figure out some ways to use the PS4/XBone-hardware in a way that makes sense for gameplay, but it won’t really matter as much as it used to be with previous generations. A game like The last of Us is now looking so damn good, there’s somehow no real reason to move forward as this just is enough for most people. Or at least it should be. On the newer generation you may be able to create something like this game so absolutely detailed and complex, but in the end, it wouldn’t change the game. And I think, developers might be suffering, pointing out why users should really upgrade.

And with the WiiU, I started playing Nintendoland again recently and damn, this game might not be some super deep Action-Adventure, but it really shows what the system’s really capable of doing. And that it is capable of really enhancing the experience, if there would just be enough devs out there, trying more stuff out.

      • DragonSilths

PS4 maybe. But you cant say any Xbox One game cause we haven’t seen any actual gameplay from any Xbox One games yet.

        • val berger

well, I got the strong feeling, the games of ps4 and xbone will turn out to look kinda similar like it was always the case before despite what MS or Sony were claiming ;)

        • WoodenSaucer

Seeing how the Xbone has slightly worse specs than the PS4, I highly doubt if we’re going to see anything better than what we’ve seen for the PS4.

          • DragonSilths

            PC says hi…lol

          • WoodenSaucer

Obviously, I was talking about out of the Xbone. Of course PC will be better.

        • DragonSilths

So…I got 3 thumbs down cause I said the truth…okay…seems about right. Sheesh.

    • bizzy gie

We have to wait for developers to push the hardware.

People like you are expecting too much too fast.

When PS360 first came out, next gen (at the time) games looked exactly like Xbox On…er…I mean Original and PS2 games. Now we have visual gems like The Last Of Us (not even 360 could push that type of visual fidelity). There will be a visual difference.

Have you seen ShadowFall or Second Son?

The Division and Destiny also look great.

There’s plenty of room for improvement graphics-wise. As long as there is a such thing as the annoying “PC Master Race”, consoles will always have room for improvement in all categories.

      • dxcvs

But same maybe for nintendo it just came out and doing ps3 visuals but they are ports. Nfsmw 360 to wii u

        • Veries Seals

          I agree

    • John Andalora

You are right in that it’s about content. And frankly, more of it is coming to the other consoles.
Think of all the games currently announced for next gen that aren’t going to be on Wii U.

To be honest though, i think graphics are getting better. Quantic Dream’s Dark Sorcerer demo blew me away. But, i like games.

      That’s why i’m buying a different console.

      • Veries Seals

This is true about the content, but it is not because the Wii U cant handle the content. Each Wii U disc is a whopping 25 GB. The same storage size as a blue ray. Which is what the PS4 and X-Box One are using. So the content isn’t coming only because the developers make a decision to give us Wii U owners gimped versions of the games to test the waters.

        • John Andalora

Never said it was because Wii U couldn’t handle things. Just stated that graphics are better.
However, with the discs, doesn’t mean the game will be read better than on the PS4 or Xbox One. You may be able to put on the same info, but how the CPU, GPU, and processors handle it is a completely different matter. You ever see a $300 computer vs a $2,000 computer? Quite a big difference.

      • jay

Wow felt like I was reading an article. Great Post!

      • LopsidedPasta

The problem is that none of the first party titles are out yet. Hence the 4ish million Wii Us sold. Nintendo had a year head start on Microsoft and Sony, and they wasted it.

    • zajac1661

The Wii u is nice. I have one myself, and it is lightyears ahead of the way old wii.. It is a blast to see nintendo in hd. But Just wait till the new Unreal engine rolls out. The WiiU latte clocks at around 550, about half the clockspeed of the other consoles. with a tricore compared to eight core cpu’s and a way lesser ram pool, i promise you that you will see a difference at some point in the future. But that difference is not going to be radical from the start. The consoles need to launch, the transition from last gen will need to advance as well. the wiiU will be able to follow to a certain point, and i really hope that a title like Destiny, would be announced to show that off. The wiiU will not be able to run every nextgen multiplatform game, and it stands on paper black and white. The dynamic lightning and dx11.2 effects requires way more at times, than a tricore with 2gb ddr3 ram. Hardware is not all. We all know. But ther difference will be there. And nintendo will prevail with awesome first party titles.

      • david jarman

That’s not completely true. Numbers don’t mean everything and I laugh at how some gamers look at numbers and think the higher the better. I’ve seen older intel processors with 2ghz out perform new processors that were 3 ghz because they were more efficient. 2gb is a plenty of ram for a lot of those effects and don’t forget about the extra edram. It’s about efficiency and optimization. Crytek, criterion, frozenbyte and shin’ en both stated that the architecture design of the wii u was well thought out and well be able to hold its own. Ps4 gddr5 is an overhype piece of shit ram with some real serious latency issues that they will have to be writen in the software to compensate for that. Not too mention that operating system and a lot of non gaming functions eat up a lot of the ram. You will some difference, but not as huge of a gap as you think. Plus, its not like these graphics are like nothing we’ve ever seen. We basically just caught up to pc gaming for now.

        • zajac1661

Before you think you have to defend the WiiU hardware know : That i actually have a brain. And yes, hardware is not all. But the numbers is a fact. It will not be able to hold up with the heavy next gen titles, when it comes to certain ammount of power req. You twist my words. Please read what i state, instead of trying to learn me noob understanding of hardware that everyone would know. We all know that the architecture is well thought of, when you compare to the fact that it is a freaking slow jaguar processor. We haven’t caught up to anything near pc gaming. Do you even realise how outdated this hardware is, compared to the processor and gpu power we have today?? we have “reached” the last gen of graphical output. Now the consoles need to make the transition into dx11.2 with hardware being pushed further.

2gb plenty of ram? Do you know that the wii U uses 1 for the OS. 12.8GB vs 102G and 178 memory. Do not tell me, that there only will be a small difference between a 550 clocked gpu with 352 gflops compared to 1.84 tflops. Because a game studio told that the architecture is smart, does not nessecarily comprehend for the fact that the hardware is bad in comparison. WE ALL KNOW HARDWARE IS THE LESSER POINT, since software makes the day. But to say “there can be no big difference” is a lame and stupid statement. Do you think that cpu latency with ddr5 is a factor compared to 2g ddr3 ram? Are you living under a rock? im not framing you for being stupid, but you seriously just justify your own will on wiiU being able to survive the console mash out there.
It will… the software will.. but you can not learn me anything about the things you say.

I love Nintendo. And i give a shit about hardware when it comes to quality software. But there is so many people debating about hardware as being magical, and having specifik powers we do not know about. That is utter bullshit.

          • david jarman

Wow, and you didn’t read what I wrote. Yes, the ps4 uses dated hardware but it can go toe to toe with recent pc hardware. That’s why I stated it at the end”for now.” Are you A+ certified and actually know how the components work with each other. I was just simply stating that it wasn’t going to be this great of a big difference. Most things are scalable because unreal 4 runs on the wii u. Clock speed difference really doesn’t mean too much of a difference that’s why referenced how effecient the processor is set up is efficient and fast with fetching and executing commands. You want to think your smarter by all means go ahead.
Ps. Nobody twisted your words so where that come from?
I guess you don’t know how big of a latency issue gddr5 has, both the Xbox and wii u run circles around it. So maybe you might recheck who is the one living under a rock.

          • zajac1661

My only point was, that there is a signifficant hardware difference, especially if you push the systems to limits. Nothing more. It was not my intention to sound smarter :( I just have the opinion about the WiiU getting strong on behalf of 1st party titles, and not keeping up with hardware limits. I think it can run along alot of 3rd party titles well. But there will be a limit, where Nintendo prevail on behalf of quality software.

    • Leorio

Have you seen Killzone..? lol The ps4 can give out some amazing stuff if used right. People will notice that. I’m with you with wanting the Wii U to do well… but gamers notice the smallest differences :/

      • lonewolf88

lol but kill zone gameplay was only in 40fps :P

    • Your money

U are correct, graphics i think are at their peak right now. There is a tv sony created that can actually surpass 1080p, but it cost a fortune, and nobody would buy that. So the only possible way for games to be fun is content.

      • Andreas Sunde

There are many TVs that can surpass 1080p. They’re called 4K, and they’re very easy to make. But we don’t actually have the technology to get the full advantage from them yet.
        http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-33199_7-57566079-221/why-ultra-hd-4k-tvs-are-still-stupid/
The PS4 and X1 will support 4K, but I doubt it will matter much.

Sharp even has two 8K tvs. Not two models, two units. But that won’t even be available until 2020, and propably cost a shit ton of money.

1080p isn’t about graphics, though. It’s just the resolution. Graphics are how detailed they can make the game.

    • Mr. J

You my freind should be an analyst

    • DragonSilths

Launch games dont show full power. A few years from now a game made from the ground up on the PS4 and one made from the ground up for Wii U, the PS4 one will be slightly better graphically but not by much.

      • Michael DeVore

I’m not sure if the full potential for the PS4 and Xbone is possible to show off. Most of the excess power is for multitasking operations. Real time Skype while your game is running is a taxing process, and unless they allow some games to turn features like that off that power will always be reserved for something else. I’m also not sure how people will react to it when games come out with a requirement that some system features will have to be turned off to play.

      • lonewolf88

idc ill give sony a hard time :P isn’t that what sony fans did? judged launch games graphics? and crappy ports?

        • http://ejercitogeek.net/ Mercurio2054

          exactly, they say: Wii u just see a bit better, . . . ejerm… ps4 too.

        • DragonSilths

Oh don’t get me wrong. I’m on Nintendo’s side here. I hate Sony. I’m just saying the PS4 has like a year’s newer tech in it then the Wii U so of course it would ultimately look ABIT better. But it wont be a Wii and PS3 thing again lol.

          • lonewolf88

lol kill zone didn’t even look amazing ps3 had games that looked just as good or better.

    • jay

I’ve been getting lynched for saying this since Wii U launch.

Those idiots that thought the Xboxone would blow the Wii U outta the water were too ignorant to hear me out.

    • Smartass2

You hit the nail on the head. Not much of a difference plus no backwards compatability is really gonna get people thinking twice.

  • jrob23

How does one become an analyst? Seems like they are full of hyperbole and obvious predictions. When they are wrong and cost companies millions they face no consequences. You’d have to be a complete imbecile to not see that the Wii U has many games coming out and a price advantage (even before the potential price drop) and are poised to rebound. I personally don’t think the PS4 and Xbone are going to sell as well as people think. Sony and Microsoft are still promoting PS360 and supporting them with great games. Neither company has made the argument besides graphics, why you need to upgrade. At least with the Wii U there was a discernible jump to HD and a new hand held gamepad innovation.

    • Decker Shado

Agreed. I’ve personally got so much faith in Nintendo… I bought the company. :D

Shares in it, anyway – the 4% jump yesterday was just that day, btw. Before Pikmin 3 released, Nintendo stock was about $15 a share. Right now, it’s $17.37 (so a few less cents than yesterday’s close, but still doing good. It makes sense that it had a slight dip, as I’m sure plenty of people sold their stock for a profit, as yesterday’s was the highest point for over a year.) I’m sure the stock will continue to rise through the international releases of Pikmin 3, all the rest of the great upcoming games, and this holiday season.

However.. I don’t think investing in Sony or Microsoft is really a good idea right now… At least, not for me anyway.

      • jrob23

Microsoft has fallen to a pretty attractive level with close to a 3% dividend and the Xbox One should help them going into 2014 so I see that as a catalyst to buy, maybe if it drops a little more. I have 1K shares in NTDOY at its current price, hoping to see a jump back into the 20s before end of year, if not, most likely spring. Have jumped in and out a couple of times for a small gain in the past few months. The main reason the stock has gone up is due to dollar yen exchange rate nothing more. When sales of the Wii U ramp up the stock will go up quick and fast on high volume, not these little gains we see from day to day….just IMO

        • Decker Shado

          Hmm.. okay.

I’m still a newbie investor, and very low on the totem pole. (I own… 6… shares of Nintendo… so, they need to boost quite a bit for me to see anything, but I’m confident they will.) What? I don’t have enough money to my name to buy 1k of Ninty.

I’ll put microsoft on my watch list now though.. even if I don’t make enough to invest anything, it will be educational for me to see how it moves.

  • The Clockwork Being

Fine if they can be analyst then im one

    Analyst TheClockWorkBeing states important facts:

The WiiU’s fate depends on the games that are on the system. When the prime titles come the Wii U sells will go up. The Wii U is a Nintendo console. The good games are to be made by developers. Nintendo is at their latest console. EA hates Nintendo. The PS4 and XboxOne are going to go threw the same thing as the Wii U.

Here now every site should publish what I have to say

lol that’s what I’m saying. I was swamped with work so I set a reminder to come up with an idea. By the time work slowed down, the post was closed.

          • Tekina Sibawo

anyway. so that fall lineup? Woo!
I kinda wish they would have remade Majora’s mask in additionto/instead of windwaker. After playing Ocarina of Time 3D I’ve been wanting to play MM. But my wii is bricked and my gamecube/N64 are in another state

          • The Clockwork Being

Majora’s Mask HD remake would have been awesome. I wanted MM over WW too. Majora’s mask would awesome since its one of the best Legend of Zelda with a good story.

          • Zombie Boy

I saw somewhere the other day that it might still be released, but on the 3DS. I could be wrong though.

  • Antar Rodríguez

although there are 2 or 3 intresting games this fall i seriously doubt those games make the entire turn around for the console, in a personal opinion i think it was a mistake to leave the heavy hitters till 2014, in a way i understand that makeing great and complete games takes its time but then again nintendo as company should have known this could happen if no 1st party games were released on launch, as an alternate path if i was nintendo i wuld have choosed to release the wii U till this fall with a lot more of 1st party and 3rd party games

    • http://MacroManJr.blogspot.com/ Brian Lockett

I just think they should’ve been working on games before the Wii U was launched. Launching the Wii U this fall, with the PS4 right around the corner, wouldn’t have fared Nintendo any better. The Wii U launch time wasn’t so much the problem.

They simply needed games, right out of the gate. And they should’ve been working on Zelda and SSB for Wii U before any other game for any system–those are the major unit sellers, so they should’ve been first priority.

But yeah, I do agree that I seriously doubt the fall lineup’s going to make much difference. Not with Sony coming with that $399 PS4 this holiday season. Heck, even I want one, for Metal Gear Solid V, Final Fantasy XV, and Kingdom Hearts 3.

      • Antar Rodríguez

that was exactly what i was thinking: why didnt they satarted developing wii u games before the lauch of wii u, i mean there are good games no doubt about that but its not about wich games we indivitually like but wich games will make the console sell

        • http://MacroManJr.blogspot.com/ Brian Lockett

As good as Kid Icarus: Uprising was on the 3DS, Nintendo should’ve had Sakurai working on SSB for Wii U first and foremost, even if just a prototype to further finish once the final designs of the Wii U come along.

I love Big N and all, but Nintendo really made some major underestimations with their dealings with the Wii U. It would be a much more promising product to people today if they’d just been better prepared.

      • Jon

out of the 3 games there, Kingdom Hearts is the only one I want their. Final Fantasy VI……. emo pretty boy sausage fest and the last metal Gear Solid…. NANO MACHINES! NANO MACHINES MORE MOVIE! play game NANO MACHINES WITH MORE MOVIE!. lol

but yes, they should have started on a lot of these titles sooner.

        • http://MacroManJr.blogspot.com/ Brian Lockett

And I don’t care about your opinion there.

          *writer checks outside his window*

          Yep. The planet’s still spinning.

I was just strengthening my point about how much many people are looking to buy a PS4. Not asking for your opinion of the games.

      • boynhisblobs

Thats only 3 games for PS4. How long do think the PS4 software drought will be after launch?

In the long run of things, its not just Nintendo. Its not going to be great sales across the board because most people are happy with their current gen systems. It won’t be until next year before either ps4 or x1 really start flying off shelves and by that time…mario kart and smash bros will have arrived.

        • http://MacroManJr.blogspot.com/ Brian Lockett

I only listed three games. It doesn’t mean that:

          1) There aren’t other games that I’d like for the system. (For instance, I’m interested in the PS4 games Driveclub and Deep Down as well.)

          2) There won’t be other games for the system relatively soon after the launch window.

          3) That there aren’t a heck of a lot more games already in development for the system.

By the way, those three games are huge titles. The kind a gamer buys an entire console to play. At least Sony had them shown early. I wish Nintendo had announced more huge console-selling titles early in the Wii U’s launch.

They should have at least shown a teaser for the new Zelda this last E3. I mean, even Skyward Sword got a teaser poster. So if Sony’s showed even just three major titles for the PS4, they’ve done better than what Big N’s done so far. But they showed a whole lineup of major support, both major and indie development, with more to come.

I’m a huge Nintendo fan, by the way. Been one longer than most of you have been alive (literally, 24 years). With the exception of the PS1 I briefly owned (before trading it for Pokemon Red), and the solid RPGs I’ve played on a friend’s PS2, I’ve never really been much of a Sony fan before. I’ve owned every major Nintendo system (except Virtual Boy).

I spend many hours a week researching Nintendo’s market, comparing the markets among its competitors, mainly because I’m an indie game developer interested in releasing my game on Wii U. I know how Nintendo works. I want Nintendo to succeed. But still, absolutely nothing you’ve replied to me refutes the point I made.

I replied to Antar that Nintendo should’ve been well making games long before the Wii U was launched, in agreement of some of his point. Telling me “it’s just not Nintendo” isn’t saying anything towards or against my point.

By the way, if you don’t think the PS4 will be the hottest-selling item this holiday season, you need to look around beyond fan-made Nintendo news sites. PS4 will sell well this holidays 2013.

People have already started pre-ordering the thing on Amazon. It’s simply not a question of waiting until next year for the PS4 to start flying off shelves–it’s already started.

I didn’t even mention Xbox One, so I don’t know why you’ve brought them into the picture here. I’m merely talking about the only console that matters this year–PS4.

And I only brought PS4 up in light of my point–the fall lineup of Wii U most likely won’t make a difference in light of the PS4 already being the hotly-anticipated product of the holiday season.

It’s rather silly to rest all the fate of the Wii U on this fall lineup, when the better games don’t come out until at least next year and the Wii U’s fall lineup, while it may contain some fun titles here and there, is still nothing to write home about.

By the way, where are you getting your information about when exactly SSB will be out? For all you know, the game could well come out late summer or early fall next year. By that time, more than enough sales of the PS4 to pose a threat to the Wii U.

      • Mochlum

I just think the FAMILY crowd will probably dig the games, especially Super Mario 3D World, Wii Party U, Donkey Kong, WWHD, Wii Fit U, Mario and Sonic 4, Sonic: Lost World, a few third party games like Scribblenauts Unmasked and LEGO Marvel, already existing games like Nintendo Land, NSMBU, Game and Wario, and LEGO City. My biggest worry is the hardcore crowd will go to the PS4 or Xbox One first and get a Wii U later with Zelda and Smash Bros.

        • http://MacroManJr.blogspot.com/ Brian Lockett

Well, not many among the family crowd are familiar with playing the Sonic series together. Maybe a lighter more casual title like Mario and Sonic 4, but certainly not the more core-gamer-targeted Sonic: Lost World. But yeah, I think family gamers are enjoying Wii U right now more than longtime veteran gamers.

And yeah, that’s my concern with the Wii U as well–those gamers who appreciate games of greater complexity and require more effort and time to beat might turn to PS4 for their fix.

Even once Zelda and SSB comes out, though, if the Wii U doesn’t have enough support of games veteran gamers care about most, they’ll hate to miss Zelda but SSB but not enough to invest $450 to experience those games. I have plenty of friends who regret not playing Twilight Princess, but didn’t regret not buying a Wii.

Though, another fear of mine is of Nintendo returning to easy-money family games at large again. The last thing I want to hear about the Wii U is it becoming yet another family-targeted console.

I welcome family-oriented games, but I hope Nintendo doesn’t dwell on it. The Wii left me more than hungry for more solid first-party titles…which, honestly, Nintendo should have well been working on long before now.

But I guess we’ll have to wait and see how 2014 treats the Wii U.

          • Mochlum

I’m just hoping that we at least get a new Starfox/Metroid/F-Zero sometime soon. Miyamoto said he sees no reason why anybody would want a new Starfox or F-Zero, which I think is annoying considering nearly everybody wants one, so we can at least hope for a new Metroid sometime soon. Maybe once Retro finishes the next DK trilogy (mark my words, they’re gonna make it a trilogy again… which isn’t exactly a bad thing in my opinion :3) they can start working on some of the more hardcore franchises. Only time (and Nintendo Directs) will tell.

  • ican1992

who ever has a wii u and is complaining that there are no good games for it needs to play monster hunter 3 ultimate, that game is amazing!

    • Jon

don’t forget Lego City, AC3 (if they never play it on other platforms) :)

      • http://MacroManJr.blogspot.com/ Brian Lockett

Lego City? Well, it might be fun, but it’s not exactly the kind of game you buy an entire console for playing. Just saying.

        • boynhisblobs

Once you play it you’d change your mind. It’s the Wii U’s GTA. One of the best games I’ve played, ever…I’m 32, i’ve played a ton of games.

          • http://MacroManJr.blogspot.com/ Brian Lockett

Well, just personally, while I enjoy sandbox-style games sometimes, I’ve never enjoyed GTA much. And I’ve never enjoyed Lego games much. I’ve played several before, including Lego Star Wars and Lego Batman, and I just didn’t enjoy them that much. But that’s all just my personal tastes.

Still, my point is that even the best Lego game isn’t the kind of game you lay down $300+ just to play. Listing the game as a major reason to buy the Wii U comes off sounding a bit weak.

And I’m not putting down the game as being something for kids. I’m just saying, it probably wasn’t the reason why you bought a Wii U. It most likely wasn’t the Wii U game that made you go “Oooo! Ahhh!” upon seeing it. I bet that mere Zelda demo at E3 2011 was a greater reason why you bought the Wii U than Lego City.

I don’t know for sure, but I’m guessing you only bought the game because there wasn’t much else to check out, but you surprisingly liked it once you did. I’m glad you enjoy the game, but it’s not going to be most other people’s reason for owning a Wii U.

I’m just saying, for most people, that’s simply not strong enough reason to buy a Wii U right now. While you guys might enjoy it, and it’s good that you do, generally nobody wants to buy a Wii U for a Lego games, a port of AC, and a re-release of Monster Hunters 3.

Saying the Legos one of the best game on Wii U so far isn’t saying much–there aren’t many games to begin with. Most gamers want to see if the console bears more promise before investing in one. And while it’s good that Lego City is seeing some sales, I only criticize bringing it up as a reason to own Wii U because I’m concerned for Wii U.

Esp. since we all saw titles like the long-awaited Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy XV get announced on PS4–even many Nintendo fans are fans of those games. For the first time since PS2, you’ve got many Nintendo fans considering holding off on Wii U to buy a PS4.

I don’t own a Wii U yet, and I wanted a Wii U almost two years before it launched. I just need stronger reason to lay down $350+, and if I bought one now, and Nintendo later drops the price next year when better games come out, I’ll be angry that I bought it at full price and only had the likes of one Lego City game to play in the meanwhile.

I believe the Wii U can garner more promise, but Nintendo has to do a better job in announcing first-party titles as soon as they’re in development. If they’ve got a Metroid game up their sleeves, they’d better announce it good and early.

          • kenny Johnson

I bought the Wii U more for the promise (hope) of quality first party games that appeal to the whole family. Lego City sorta fits into that (It was published by Nintendo and definitely family friendly). It’s actually the game I use to show off the Wii U to family and friends because it’s a quality game that (more importantly) shows off the Gamepad very well. In fact, it was after showing that game to a friend that he said, “I have to save up my money to buy this for my nephew for Christmas.” (nice uncle, by the way).

          • http://MacroManJr.blogspot.com/ Brian Lockett

Well, that’s good. Though, generally, most gamers that Nintendo needs to address–and, in fact, they straight-up promised to address–with Wii U aren’t family gamers.

Metroid series, for instance, isn’t overly gritty or ultra-violent, but it’s certainly not a game your 5-year-old might play or a game you’d show off to traditionally “casual” gamers. It’s just a little more complex than what interests many among the general family crowd.

In fact, while I’m glad the Wii U’s seeing life with lighter gamers and families, this is actually the last thing I wanted to see starting to take over on the Wii U.

What I don’t want is for Wii U to wind up relying on being another Wii, just to survive, while most of the veteran gamers (perhaps you’re in this group yourself) praying for rain of better “core” (or perhaps just “major”) titles.

While the Wii had some great major titles, like Twilight Princess and Mario Galaxy–some of the best of their franchise, actually–it certainly was few and far between. Meanwhile, the family gamers accounted for the majority of Wii sales and Wii games sold.

I fear that promoting a titles such as Lego City as being one of the greater reasons to own a Wii U is only just starting again what I’ve already seen on the Wii.

It’s good that you enjoy the game and that people are wanting a Wii U for it. Hey, I can enjoy a family-oriented game at times. I just seriously hope that Nintendo doesn’t fall back on turning the Wii U back into another Wii.

          • kenny Johnson

But “gamers” aren’t what make a console successful. It’s the mainstream. That’s why Donkey Kong country sold better than Metroid Prime.

          • http://MacroManJr.blogspot.com/ Brian Lockett

I’ll let this be my last reply here.

I know “gamers” aren’t (always) what make a console successful. Thus my very reason for bringing up the past success with the Wii.

However, the promise of the Wii U from Nintendo themselves was that they were going to better address those many of us who suffered through Wii, longing for more titles of better complexity that appeal to us. They promised.

And really, you can only say that “the mainstream” is what sells games about Nintendo consoles of late. Go to Sony and it’s overwhelmingly “gamers” making up the bulk of their sales.

The greatest selling systems in history (PS2, Nintendo DS, SNES, etc.) before the Wii weren’t due to families and casual gamers, but “gamers” making those systems as successful. It’s only been rather recently have traditionally non-“gamers” made up the mainstream.

Since many veteran Nintendo fans like myself (and probably yourself) have seen Nintendo be successful from “gamers’ before (namely, the SNES), and those era saw arguably the best Nintendo console games in history, we’d like to see that make a comeback.

Since the majority of the sales of Wii were parents buying it for the family or casual gamers buying it for the likes of Wii Fit, not at all to say that many Nintendo veterans didn’t buy and enjoy DKC, but most of those sales were primarily parents who bought the lighter Donkey Kong Country over the more complex Metroid Prime.

I’m afraid you’re only furthering my point here, it seems. I don’t speak harshly of families enjoying the Wii U–I speak of concern of us veteran fans getting yet another system with yet another drought of the kind of games that made Nintendo who they are today.

We MADE Nintendo successful to begin with, back when games were seen by families as “rotting our brains”–we should see more catered to us. You say we’re not the mainstream, but we’re longing to be the mainstream again–if they deliver what we need to MAKE such gamers the mainstream again.

          • Mochlum

I agree, LEGO City: Undercover is currently my favorite Wii U game. (though definitely subject to change after a lot of the games coming out soon) I just love the great clever humor, and the huge city to explore.

        • kenny Johnson

I disagree. It’s my favorite game on the Wii U right now.

    • boynhisblobs

Game and Wario kills it at a party. Never seen so many non-gamers having a great time! Also, Need for Speed Most Wanted U is amazing! Best graphics on the Wii U.

    • Antar Rodríguez

its not about the good games we indivudually like, its about the games that would have made this console sell more, no doubt thare are good games (ac3, zombieu, MH3,Lego city) if they could have released mario 3d world or pikimin 3 at least a short time after launch i think wii u sales would have started very high

  • Mj78

Wii u will last as long as nintendo fans want it to. The games are starting to come thick and fast and wii u will stay the distance…it won’t win the race but it will not just go away as the Nintendo haters think or hope it will. It’s time to stop looking at when the Wii u will die and start to focus on the quality it is bringing to gamers.

    • YoG99

We call that “wisdom” my friend :)

    • Evang3los

I don’t know why they want it to fail. I really don’t want Microsoft or sony to fail. Competition breeds innovation.(except in Sony’s case, where copying breeds innovation.) But seriously real gamers can see the positive in every system. Nintendo has innovation, Microsoft has fps, and sony has “the last of us.” Which by the way is forcing me to buy a ps3. But Nintendo has been the reason that other developers have grown to what they have become. Do you think bungie wasn’t inspire by something Nintendo, or Jack and daxter, or rpgs of all kinds? If Nintendo started making crap first party games, I might be a bit worried, but even pikmin 3 averaged a 9/10 and that game isn’t for everyone

  • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

You mean the availability of popular games will sell the console?? Most of us knows this and while some like to predict doom and failure many of us know the games will come as they always have.

I am not so sure about his XBOX One vs PS4 Prediction though. Wasn’t the pre-order count for the PS4 still way higher than the XB1 last time it was checked and even after Microsoft pulled a reversal?

My prediction is this: Both the XB1 and PS4 will sell well as the initial fan base and people buying up the console just to resell it all jumped in on the pre-order and will hit the stores the holiday season trying to get one. Then the sales will dip off just after the holidays and unless some really good games follow and keep coming the sales will be slower until the games are released.

You know just like Nintendo did. Of course Nintendo did drop the ball (which the admitted) and was not prepared with their game development which is evident by all the game delays. If Microsoft and Sony have similar issues they will have a similar fate.

    • Schultz38

I’m not sure even with (good) exclusives that the XB1 will be able to survive.

Even my die-hard-Microsoft friends hate the XBone.

      • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

        Only time will tell.

        • Zombie Boy

I’ve heard that XBox One pre-orders are being cancelled at the highest rate ever, but that was via a video on YouTube, so not sure if it’s true.

  • springer85

    LOL.
The big Nintendo games that are coming are just rehash after rehash!!!
The new Mario game is just a rip off of Mario on the 3ds, Mario Kart is the same as Mario 7 only this time you can go upside down,Smash Bros just a rehash of the gamecube version the same pattern every console!!

    • YoG99

You know why ? That’s because those games are what fans want. After nearly 25+ years playing 2D marios, I still need my fix once in a while. I still want a 3D mario, I still want a good old Zelda and I want to play Mario Kart. Actually, for that last one, I would buy an HD upgrade of the SNES version without any other improvements. As Capcom did with Duck Tales.

I look at Xbox and PlayStation and never a game on those consoles appeals to me. Boring FPS on Xbox and “I don’t care” kind of games on Playstation.

Yet other consoles release their sequels over and over and on top of that do whatever they can to copy the ideas Nintendo puts into their games and consoles. So many platformers try to copy the Super Mario model set 30 years ago and don’t even get me started on the Cart Racer duplicators.

  • springer85

Tablet controller was the was the worst idea ever from Nintendo and sent them backwards from the Wii!!

Wii was a genius innovation……….Wii U sent them back 6 years!!

I think the new control are really fun and there are so many awesome things that could be done with it.

Why would you compare it with a normal tablet? They are for totally different things…

        • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

First of all the Wii U controller is very light and very sturdy. Second of all the entire Wii U system costs $299 and just the iPad is $499.

Don’t look now but your fanboy ignorance is showing. Especially if you think the iPad is worth it’s price.

          • Mochlum

You can pay $500 for a tablet that lets you play very arcade-y games and crappy freenium deals, or $350 for a system that has actual games that can be played for more then an hour. I wonder what it is better…

    • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

For you maybe.. I think it is a great addition into the world of gaming. I can control my game and have the information I need at my fingertips. It adds new elements into the game control that you cannot get by mashing buttons on a controller. To each is own but be an adult and admit when something is your opinion instead of pushing it off as fact for the whole world.

    • 00EpicGamer00

Hey! Did you know that Sony is using the “tablet” controller idea too :O
It won’t be REQUIRED for games. It would just be an option for certain features, or something.
So, if you say the tablet controller is “the worst idea ever”, and “sent them 6 years backwards”. then that means Sony also got sent back 6 years. And I think Microsoft is doing something with “tablets”. I think they said something about smartglass, or something. Than that also means Microsoft got sent back 6 years.

Knowledge….how many accounts do you have to make? -.-

It won’t be enough vs PS4.

Alot of these analyst own lots and lots of microsoft stock… their investment houses they work for owns lots and lots of microsoft stock.
At this point the xBone will be lucky to overtake Ouya.

  • bizzy gie

PS4 will outship XB1. PS4 is in much higher demand than XB1 (nobody wants to watch TV or Skype go figure).

I’m tired of all these people who play important roles in gaminb being Xbox fanboys (IGN I’m looking at you).

    PS4 > XB1

    • Elem187

I think the xBone will be a massive failure.. You don’t just erase that bad PR overnight… in fact I still talk to people who are still complaining about xBones DRM and used game policies… There is literaly millions of people out there that don’t realize Microsoft reversed course..
The big talk of E3 was xbone’s policies…. most of the people who heard about it still don’t know microsoft did a reversal. Thats going to hurt them in the long run…. I’ll be surprised if xBone outsells Ouya at this point.

      • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

I think after the initial fanbase gets their pre-orders sales of both the PS4 and XB1 will die off with the XB1 suffering far worse.. Then the following holiday season there will be more games and the demand for either system will depend on that. If Microsoft thinks their TV features are going to sell a system then they are nuts.

    • Orange Lada

I agree with your sentiment, but may not outship. Depends on manufacturing. Shipping to retailers and selling, are two different things!

      • bizzy gie

I realize that now. This was posted before I has understanding on the subject.

  • Re4wii2008

The only next gen game that blew me away with visuals was Metal Gear Solid V but besides that Grand Theft Auto V look’s amazing on 360 and PS3 which makes me wish it would come to Wii U since we all know the Wii U would run it better (I have the old fat PS3 which heats up fast nowadays) and it’s Nintendo’s chance to say here’s the definitive version of GTA V before it comes to PS4 and X1 possibly! When it comes to Wii U I swear Mario Kart 8 looks absolutely stunning and knowing Nintendo The next Zelda Wii U Game will look amazing and I can’t wait to see what they come up with on the Gamepad because I heard rumors earlier this year that the Wii U Gamepad itself was made for Zelda!

  • springer85

LOL at Ninty slurps using the 3ds excuse………..the 3ds had ZERO competition for a year before the Vita came out, after the price drop and when Mario and Mario Kart arrived the Vita was not even out and is why the 3ds sales rocketed!!
Yes the big Nintendo games are coming but this time around the Wii U will have 2 next gen consoles as competition and with the ps4 only $50 more expensive than the Wii deluxe the ps4 will obliterate it!!!

are you related to that knowledge guy or is this the same guy on one of his troll accounts? I honestly don’t care what system does better than the other. I like my games and I get the consoles that has the games I love.

      • springer85

No he just another guy who tells the truth about Nintendo have lost the plot and you all cry and bash him for stating facts that the whole world can see except ninty slurps!!

        • Jon

you should go and read some of the arguments I have had with him. you’ll see he makes a lot of comments with nothing to back it up and over time, often he is proven wrong.

        • NkoSekirei

u pull lies out of ur @$$ cause that wat trolls do

      • Zombie Boy

Same guy, posting as springer85 and Jarvis (and a few other names). Sad, isn’t it?

        • Elem187

I feel bad… his life is so empty that he spends every last waking minute of his life trolling Nintendo articles and discussions…. tells me that he is bored with his 360, and has been for years, so he spends his time trolling something he will never purchase anyways. I guess he’s mad that there is people out there enjoying their new console, and it eats him up inside.

It would be pathetic if his life wasn’t so sad…. maybe daddy beat him as a child and his mommy didn’t care about him.

          • Zombie Boy

I do wonder if he genuinely has problems. You know, like real ‘I need a therapist’ type problems.

    • kenny Johnson

Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

  • John Andalora

    Here’s my analysis:
Most of the people who want the big titles that Nintendo is known for already bought the Wii U. Most of the other games like MK and SSB only do extremely well or just good depending on the number of people who have the console. They are not system sellers, but merely something that people like if they already have the console. I think that Nintendo has a pretty weak library for new consumers in the fall, as most of those games would only interest those who already bought the console. Nintendo needs something big (and I’m talking first party Nintendo, not just exclusive to the console). I mean, Bayonetta 2 and X look cool, but because their predecessors are both unknown and obscure to those who didn’t hear about it or didn’t care about it, a sequel to them isn’t going to get the biggest crowd ever.

If Nintendo doesn’t do some new really BIG thing soon, I’m not thinking it’s going to be too good for them next year.

As for PS4 or Xbox One, i can’t honestly say. BB keeps running out, but we don’t know how many they have. I can’t make a call about that in good conscience because there’s nothing to go on.

    • Zombie Boy

I’m not saying I don’t agree to a point, but in my opinion, if Pikmin 3 can have such a positive effect on sales, then the larger more well-known titles should surely have a bigger effect?

As for doing something big, I think acquiring some other dev studios would be a good idea, and if they get Atlus, that could be a great start.

      • John Andalora

Wii U Console sales in Japan were 7,000 a week. Bumping it up 170% would be less than 20,000. Not a massive spike.

Pikmin 3 might move some units, but not a lot other than fans of the series.

        • Zombie Boy

It went up to 22,000 units sold, (that’s an extra 15,000 units in a week), making it the 2nd highest sold console that week after 3DS. And not with a BIG game either, but Pikmin, which I never assumed was a system seller.

          • John Andalora

            With Xbox360 selling 91,000 and PS3 selling 130,000, I highly doubt that…

          • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

You cannot compare the numbers worldwide of the other systems to the numbers sold in Japan for Nintendo… Sure if you take into account the rest of the world the Wii U did not sell that number but I think they localized the sales increase in Japan because a game was released there and to show that a good game can in fact boost sales.

Besides I think the PS3 and XB360 will outsell the PS4 and XB1 respectively for at least the first year. It is not uncommon for the last generation to sell better than the NewGen until that NewGen is well established which usually takes about 2 years.

          • John Andalora

Sorry. I assumed he meant highest selling worldwide. Not sure why…
It is possible, but I can’t say for certain as to whether or not Old gen will outsell new gen for other consoles. They actually have made steps to advertise their console a little more than Nintendo did. They already got comparison charts in stores and have sections dedicated to advertised games for Xbox one and PS4. Sony is doing a lot more work with their “greatness awaits” commercials, though.
            Not sure how that’ll go.

          • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

Neither can I but I make that guess based on the new systems have no backwards compatibility and the trend shows if that feature is removed the old gen still sells well out of necessity. That is a big reason why the PS2 outsold the PS3 for years into the PS3’s early life. Well that and cost of course.

          • Zombie Boy

Not sure where you’re getting your figures from, but here’s the Japanese chart from that week. The figure is the amount of consoles sold, the figure in brackets is the previous week’s sales. I’ve copied and pasted this from the official Media Create site.

            Software sales:
            1. [Wii U] Pikmin 3 – 92,720
            2. [3DS] Yokai Watch – 53,654
            3. [PS3] Earth Defense Force 2025 – 37,024 (191,713)
            4. [3DS] Tomodachi Collection: New Life – 26,065 (1,259,847)
            5. [Wii U] New Super Luigi U – 24,881
            6. [PSV] Toukiden – 20,853 (186,963)
            7. [PSP] Toukiden – 19,262 (118,404)
            8. [PS3] Dead Island: Riptide – 18,462

            10. [3DS] Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D – 12,963 (206,322)

            Harware sales:

            2. Wii U – 22,199 (8,251)
            3. PlayStation Vita – 15,662 (20,776)
            4. 3DS – 13,841 (14,506)
            5. PlayStation 3 – 12,698 (11,683)
            6. PSP – 5,830 (5,768)
            7. Wii – 1,434 (1,334)
            8. Xbox 360 – 393 (313)

          • John Andalora

Sorry. I had worldwide sales of the console.

    • Elem187

Lots of people want a Wii U, but none are pulling the trigger until it gets games that people want.

Thats been Nintendo’s only weakness is the release schedule this year so far… the second half of the year will prove to be much better for Nintendo…. People thinking absurdly priced dudebro consoles will sell more this holiday season, which I will disagree with, I don’t think they will sell more than than the PS3/x360 did in their first xmas, which ironically was less than what the Wii U pulled in.

      • John Andalora

Difference between PS3 and PS4 launch is that PS4 has more games coming along with it.
I’m not sure whether or not PS4 or Xbox One will sell better than Wii U. However, with games like 3D Mario Land and Donkey Kong Country Returns 2 for Christmas, which are more fan games, and nothing really big coming till Spring 2014, it doesn’t look good for Wii U.

        • Quicksilver88

Actually I think Disney Infinity and Skylanders will shift major units. Those games are huge with the kids and they will want a new system to play them on and there will be WiiU with lots of family friendly games and these figurine crack sellers.

          • John Andalora

Aren’t both of those games coming out for Xbox 360 and ps3 as well as Wii U? Meaning no need for buying the next console yet?

          • Quicksilver88

They are but you miss the point which is those games don’t move major units on those systems and they did move major units on Wii and DS. A lot of younger kids are not ps360 gamers as parents don’t generally see them as ‘family’ friendly type systems. So many of these kids played this stuff on Nintendo as the hope would be they are looking for a new system and will see WiiU as the next system to buy for the family because of past experience. It will help swell the base which looks good on paper, but doesn’t entirely make the WiiU more attractive for ‘adult’ content or development. I am just saying it is a shame because I am greatly enjoying ME3 on WiiU and plan to enjoy Splinter Cell, AC4, and Watchdogs as well. Curious, do you have a WiiU? Have you played anything like ME3 or ZombieU or Batman or AC3 on it? Even though the features are limited the gamepad adds a lot to those type games. The mapping in ME3 is super because in most the combat missions on the other systems you don’t even get a map and not only that but it has all you enemies on it which helps a bunch during intense fights. It looks like Splinter Cell is really going to do a lot with it and I am guessing by the nature of the game Watchdogs will as well. I play ps360 as well as pc so I am no homer, but the gamepad is a pretty trick controller and I just wish the WiiU would do well enough to warrent more attention by 3rd parties. Even if it doesn’t I am guessing by when its all said and done Nintendo and their JAP pals will have enough on it to make it a worthwhlie system.

    • boynhisblobs

I personally think there is a bigger picture behind all of this. For me, Nintendo was the system seller for me, not one particular software title. I know they make great games, many franchises that I know and love.

The difference this time is the market is so different these days. Everyones phone has millions of games available, theres tablet after tablet, android systems are coming out more and more plus handhelds like 3ds and vita are still in the mix. I’m just saying theres way more distractions for the consumers money. I have at least 6 devices that play games in my house so it’s hard to justify spending a lot of money on number 7.

I bought my Wii U about 4 months after launch because I love nintendo. I wanted one on launch day but waited until a few more games came out while saving up funds through the holidays. I think this is how most “hardcore” gamers will feel about their new system of choice. They want it, but only a few will really get it on launch day. Its just not the same market it was last generation. Now people line up for the new Iphone, not the new playstation.

      • John Andalora

Please don’t get me wrong. I like Nintendo when they do something different. However, their current lineup is unimpressive, and I’m not interested in the game choice they’ve created. I think they could do a lot better.

    • Quicksilver88

Youu are just nuts….MK on Wii sold 30+ million units, one of the best selling games of all times and that is not a system seller? MK is also what turned around 3DS. SSB has always been a system seller. If these titles don’t shift units then Nintendo is doomed. Don’t forget though Miyamato is working on a new IP and Gramfreaks is teasing something new for Wiu. Look by the middle of next year WiiU will have a bunch of quality exclusives while the other new systems are in the middle of their post launch droughts.

      • John Andalora

As a comparison, MK Double Dash sold 6.7 million. Mario kart games only do as well as the console does. You and I both know that people who own the console pay more attention to the game that come out for it than someone who just looks at one game when it comes out.
Same with SSB. Melee sold 7 million. More people own a console, more people will get it. Otherwise, it’s not as successful.

As for the new IP, how do you know it’s going to be the amazing thing you want? Could be a load of crap. No one knows anythig about that, so analysis of that is simply empty hope and promises.

        • Quicksilver88

John….I do agree with you that one title rarely moves systems by itself, but there have been exceptions and games like innovative Mario (not NSMB type stuff), Mario Kart, and Zeldas certainly don’t hurt. Hell even Animal Crossings has helped Nintendo move units in the past to a certain crowd. I think what helps (as with the 3DS) is when you look up one day and there is a bunch off good softeware to choose from that speaks to a lot of different types of gamers. As far as Miyamato’s new IP….come on this guy is one of the legends of gaming, has created some of the greatest games and gameplay mechanics in history and you think he is going to lay a turd? Doubtful. Who knows what it will be, Pinkmin was wierd ass crap IMO but it’s hard to argue the innovative and interesting angle he came from in creating the game. Look if you were placing bets on who might make an awesome new IP and game then I would put my money on Shiggy. If you don’t like new gameplay mechanics or different ideas then stick to the COD and AC type stuff that and that is cool. I play FPS and 3rd person shooters or adventure games. I just mostly enjoy them when they have a compelling story and that is what attracts me, not much has changed in the gameplay engines of those type games for a decade now.

  • Madmagican

Well at least I can actually somewhat agree on this

  • springer85

Wii U 10 months on the market 4.2 million
Wii first 10 months on the market 11.4 million
Yeah the Wii U is such a hit!!!
    LOL

    • Zombie Boy

Both the XBox 360 and PS3 sold less in their first year. I guess they failed too.

      • Elem187

Shhhh.. don’t you know the failures Nintendo need to be magnified but the far egregious failures of Sony and Microsoft don’t matter and should be over looked because…… Reasons.

        • Zombie Boy

Aww, I just wanted to tell the truth :( Still the trolls seem to be ignoring my comment, so never mind.

          • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

Your version of the truth backed up by facts seems to differ from the trolls that name themselves TruthTeller. How odd.

    • 00EpicGamer00

The Wii U hasn’t been out for 10 months, you idiot!

    • Yousif Alromaithi

Wii U never sold 4.2 bro what the hell you hitting it for and stop that stupid rant. Wii U sold 4 months 3.45 millions. So we don’t know how much units sold until Nintendo releases it’s finical quarter at September 31. I doubt it will hit five million but I could be wrong. Probably on December the sales will soar high much like what happened on the Wii at 2007.

  • springer85

Rushed Wii U launched with a lame epic fail rehash of mario bros wii but with just HD,no free game bundled in, no zelda!!
Wii launched with a fee copy of wii sports and a zelda game!!
For Nintendo not to make a new wii sports to be bundled in with the wii u is such an epic fail as Nintendo land was a lame shitty alternative!!

    • Jon

no free game included in bundle…. I guess the Deluxe version didn’t get Nintendo Land with it and the Zombie U bundle never got Both Zombie U and Nintendo land plus a $50 pro control…. Interesting. You must like yourself a lot to be spamming new comments.

      • springer85

Wii sports was the best free game of any console ever!!
Zombie U was utter shite and so was Nintendoland which paled in comparison to Wii sports!!

        • Zombie Boy

So instead of admitting you were wrong, you’ve just decided (your opinion, by the way, not fact) that those games are shite. Oh dear…

          • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

Trolls do not admit when they are wrong, they just call names, use foul language, and predict doom and promote negativity.

        • boynhisblobs

U probably played neither, they are both great!

          • John Raybell

not really, nintendo land was pretty fucking lame, zombie U could have been tons better.

          • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

What’s the matter… no friends to play with?? I rather think NintendoLand is very fun and I play it frequently with family and friends. It’s no Wii Sports but still a decent game.

          • John Raybell

I have been with nintendo for 27 years, and nintendo land is the last thing i would expect them to crap out.

Its lacking content for one, and the mini games are sad reps for the real games, all in all it was really lack luster and very repetitive.

Skyward sword for wiiu up scaled version,A full Mario title or a new wii sports would have been better.

Nintendo land did a horrible job at showing things that the console could do, it showed some, but meh

I really really hate to say it because i love nintendo games for what they are, but nintendo land was for the little ones im afraid.

Its not worthy of being a new IP, and didn’t sell the wiiu at all, I know a bunch of very hardcore nintendo fans that agree with me.

Lets just say nobody looked at nintendo land and said “I have to have that console for that game”

          • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

I will agree that it is not a top IP and maybe Nintendo thought it would have the impact that Wii Sports did but it did do some things to show off the Gamepad interaction very well especially with multi-player. However I do not think it was ever to be a flagship title for the Wii U and was more like a starter title. Maybe should of been a game included with the console built into the system and not a separate title.

I am not trying to downplay your opinion of the game because that is yours and yours alone and while others may share it there are some (like myself) find the game very fun to play with family and friends

      • John Raybell

Those bundles weren’t launch, zombie u and pro controller came a bit later.

At launch nintendo land was the bundle, and a pretty sad game at that lol

    • John Raybell

Yeah nintendo land was horrible, worst new IP ever, really hope nintendo doesn’t do any more games like that

  • springer85

    Ps4>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Wii U>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>xBONE One>>>>>>>>>FACT!!!

    • Decker Shado

Ahh.. so facts have extremely low value to you? Thank you, that clears up a lot.

    • Elem187

      Mine looks a little different:
      3DS > Wii U> PC >>>>>>>> PS4 > OUYA >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Iphone 5 >>>>>>>>>>>> xBoned

    • 00EpicGamer00

Umm….you do realize that the signs you wrote mean “more than”, right? So, do you mean that the PS4 is better than Wii U, and the Wii U is better than Xbox one? I agree with the latter. But there’s no telling if the PS4 will be “better” than the Wii U.
Also, I think your Caps Lock is broken. You better get that fixed.

  • Joel

The games coming out for Wii U:

Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I DON”T KNOW!
    Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
    Batman: Arkham Origins
    Call of Duty: Ghosts
    Disney Infinity
Donkey Kong Country Returns: Tropical Freeze
Mario and Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games
    Pikmin 3
    Rayman Legends
    Skylanders: Swap Force
    Sonic Lost World
    Super Mario 3D World
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD
    Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Blacklist
    Watch Dogs
    Wii Fit U
    Wii Party U
    The Wonderful 101

Doesn’t look too bad for Wii U owners (even though some games will be on PS4 and XBO)

    • Elem187

When you lay out all of the games it really doesn’t look dire at all this holiday season.. in fact, it looks like it will have the most games available this holiday, both exclusive and multi-platform releases.

    • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

No if all those games release cross platform are not stripped down versions for the Wii U it should be pretty good overall.

      • Joel

Not all are like that. The Wii U port of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is probably the best version out there.

        • Magnus Eriksson

Bought it the other day. :)

        • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

I am hoping the same will be for games like Watch Dogs and Batman Arkham Origins too. After playing Arkham City on the Wii U I almost went out and repurchased it for that system even though I already had it for the XB360 because the Gamepad made the game better to me. From what I can tell so far those games will be the same on the Wii U as they are on other platforms.

Unfortunately there are a good handful of games that have been ported for the Wii U that have left out game features and delayed or no DLC made available.

          • Joel

I think that’s because it has the same amount of development time as the other versions.

          • oontz

“I am hoping the same will be for games like Watch Dogs”

Not likely, the developer has already stated that their primary focus is on XB1, PS4 and PC. They aren’t even focusing on the past generation systems. And yes he labeled the wiiu as past generation.

          • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

If he did label it as such then he is ignorant but the information from Ubisoft I got is that the game features and future support (aka DLC) will be on par with that of the versions made for XB360/PS3 as well as PS4/XB1. He may think the Wii U is past generation but that just shows ignorance is labeling a system a certain generation just because it has a bit less power than other systems in the same generation.

          • oontz

            I could not agree more.

    • http://MacroManJr.blogspot.com/ Brian Lockett

Sadly, there are only four up there I’d buy:

      – Donkey Kong Country Returns, Tropical Freeze
      – Sonic Lost World
      – Wind Waker HD
      – Super Mario 3D World (though, SM3W did feel rather underwhelming to me, compared to stellar Mario titles of the past, like Mario Galaxy).

Watch Dogs and Batman: Arkham Origins are definite contenders, though, again, they’re available elsewhere (and on cheaper consoles, at that), and many ports over to the Wii U have been shoddy at best, so it’s no major credit to the Wii U.

Wind Waker HD is nice and all, but I’ve played it through on GameCube, so it’s not like I’d be missing a whole lot if I never played it on Wii U. And I personally wouldn’t mind if I never saw another Wii Fit game again.

These few are the games I’d only buy after buying a Wii U for bigger titles–not as the main reasons themselves to own a Wii U. In fact, the lack of the much bigger titles is the only reason I haven’t yet bought a Wii U as of yet.

It’s funny because I’ve been following Wii U since almost two years before it was released, promoting it to my friends before it even had the name “Wii U,” and yet, I’ve yet to have bought a Wii U, waiting on the better reasons to put out $400+ ($350 plus a game) on one. Go figure.

      • boynhisblobs

I’ve played all 4 games at comic con and they’re really good so far. Wind Waker looks amazing, much better than the original.

Seriously, for as much ranting as you do about the systems, it’s not very fair of you to judge something you don’t own. I’ve been playing these games a very long time, I’m 32, and the Wii U seriously still amazes me when I play.

Sure there was a drought of games there for a good 6 months and sure, Nintendo could have done better with the launch. But it’s a great system, the games are amazing. I’ve got sonic allstars, batman, zombi u, lego city, nintendo land, game and wario, need for speed and tons of eshop/virtual console titles. None of the games I have I’ve sold back to gamestop because they are all quality games that i go back to time and time again.

Its really the hands on time with it that will amaze you. Not just 10-15 mins at the target display, but diving into one of the games and seeing all the amazing things they have to offer.

        • ICHI

I feel the same and we’re the same age, with about the same Wiiu games lol. I play on my Wii u more than I have played any machine since the NES. It just goes on all the time, I love it my kids love it, even the Mrs who hates games doesn’t mind playing from time to time and when everyone is in bed I go monster hunting, 158 hours in and I’ve reached G rank both online and off. When I can’t be arsed to play I’m on miiverse, when I want something quick I play megaman, metroid or pilotwings and when I get tired and all I can do is shoot people in the face black ops goes on, It’s wonderful.

      • kenny Johnson

These will look good on the shelves at stores. Some people may be upgrading from a Wii (don’t own a PS3/X360), so these multi-plat games can still be appealing.

        • Joel

They might buy the PS4 or Xbox One, though. Especially considering the former is only $50 more expensive than the Wii U.

          • Quicksilver88

If Nintendo doesn’t have a new pro bubdle for $300 this xmas I will be shocked. XBone will struggle at $500 plus cost for a game. $ony will do well and sell out but all you will get on either of those systems at launch are like two exclusives and all the multiplats that will be on the old systems.

          • oontz

all these people claim the new systems will struggle. Pre-orders are already double of the past generation with almost every retailer sold out of initial stock already.

          • Quicksilver88

Yeah but remember WiiU sold about 3 mil units in the first 2 months and then dropped off sharply. Look all the zellots and hardcore supporters and gamers are going to pre-order and are going to buy snap up everything else at launch. That doesn’t mean that much honestly, its how the momentum carries forward and I have been in gaming since there has been gaming and with the soft economy and the extended life of the last generation I think these other contendors will have a similiar fate as Nintendo has. Look I hope not because I want all these systems to sell well and succeed so we can keep getting great games, but don’t be suprised if by next April one or both of these new systems is in a slump. Have you seen the launch schedules? There is not that much new and exciting for either of these systems on launch day so until some of the true ‘next gen’ titles get out later in 2014 the average gamer and consumer is not going to be that motivated to update, especially when there are hundreads of games out there for both x360 and ps3….It’s just my opinion but its an opinion based on over 30 years as a console owner and I am also a technical entrprenuer and employer. The economy is still very soft in the US and even worse in Europe and the Japan.

100, They need to buy a game.

      • MetroidZero

i am in the same boat as you.

      • Quicksilver88

Most WiiU ports have not been shoddy…..Batman AC best version, NFSMW best version, AC3 good version with all DLC, ME3 very good (playing it now) with full online. Injustice Gods best version. So this is an unfortunate misunderstanding many have because EA did 2 crappy ports with Madden and Fifa. Ubi has been doing bery good work and I am sure their titles this year will be good and because Rayman eas made for WiiU it will be best version. I own all the systems so I am not a fanboy, just annoyed that so many people dissing WiiU ports that have never tried them.

        • oontz

They are the best versions NOW because they are compared to almost 8 year old hardware.

The wiiu will suffer the same 3rd party fate as the wii did. Once the new systems come out the wiiu will get the worst of the ports.

          • Quicksilver88

Oontz, have you even been following the press releases on these new systems? Both Microsoft and Sony execs have come out, as well as analysts and said that these new systems are not going to wow people with the grafx leap and that concerns them. That is one of the reasons M$ is focusing so much on alternate features like Kinnect, media, and the do it all approach. The difference between Wii and ps360 was vast, the difference between WiiU and ps4/xbone is not as much as people think or pretend to know. The WiiU will be able to do capable versions if it gets the effort put in, that was my point about the best of the current ports. I have owned every system since the beginning (That being the Atari2600 for me) and I know that Nintendo has been getting the shaft since the N64. So I didn’t really be the WiiU to play 3rd party that is what I have a ps360 and pc for and will have a PS4 next year when enough good games warrent it. My point is it would be nice to get some good ports on WiiU and when it happens I will support it. The gamepad adds a lot even when its just used for mapping or offTV play. Games just don’t get magically better because the hardware improves, the development tools, developer skill, and development dollars all play a big part as well. This is why you always get kick ass games like Last of Us, and Tomb Raider and such in the last 18 months or so of a console’s life. Everything has been cooked out and the installed bases are huge enough to warrent a lengthy and expensive development. Eventually we will get some sweet stuff from Nintendo on WiiU and from Sony/Microsoft and the big publishers on the other new systems, just don’t expect it on day one or you are going to be let down.

well the article doesnt exactly state that it has been comfirmed but if it is then i stand corrected

          • Zombie Boy

I’m not a big fan of ONM because they seem very smarmy and are (obviously) too far up Nintendo’s ass to print anything they’ve done wrong. But as far as things like this go, I’d trust them over these online sites any day.

      • John Raybell

its CALL OF DUTY, doesnt that pretty much confirm it lol

        • Antar Rodríguez

LOL the game sucks in the wii u version, believe it or not BO2 was my first call of duty game EVER, the thing is i bought it for both wii u and ps3 consoles imagine my surprise when i saw the wii u version treated as crap, dropped support, no dlc, lots of glitches, overpowered weapons(compared to ps3 version) not even a map that was supposed to be there and free (nuketown), the only reason i keep playing on wii u is cause i like more the nintendo controllers and obviously to in a way support the wii u community, if ghosts gets released i really doubt ill buy it for wii u

          • oontz

The Wiiu will only get watered down ports, just like the wii.

compared to the 30 Sony First party PS4 exclusives in development, 20 coming out in the first year and 12 of which that are new IPs. Combined with ALL the 3rd party support, not watered down ports.

I’ve said it before, Nintendo needs to buy more first party studios and pump more games out.

Sh!box Done is anything but updated graphics and a glorified cable box. Ps4 is just the PS3 with just amped up graphics and a new controller while the Wii U brings more innovation such as playing off the tv and a few more. I think this Patcher guy needs to stop saying that the Wii U is doom and gloom. Look at the sales of Pikmin 3… that game just single-handedly increased sales of the Wii U, once it comes to North America sales of the Wii U will just explode and with the games such as Bayonetta 2, Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros 4 (and just an estimation) it will jack up sales of the Wii U by ten folds or more…. it will put both of those consoles to shame considering that the games for Sh!tbox Done and Ps4 is just shooters and more shooters. I have high hopes that the Wii U will take full steam ahead once the games come out and i expect Patcher looking everywhere like a crazed maniac like that Camper guy that predicted the End of the World.

    • ICHI

The new Xbox and PlayStation are a little more than that as they use PC components, new PC games should be able to be ported with ease which could create a cheap way to get games to the systems. I suppose it depends on what the front end is, especially in sonys case as the Xbox is going to run a version of windows it (in theory) should be easily compatible with PC games currently in development. But then that just raises the question why not buy a PC its cheaper and does more. It could also make an environment where games developers hold back on pushing PC versions to future PC graphical capabilities as they want to release on ps4 Xbox? This happened a bit this last gen and traditionally PC branded games which were made for console first were shouted about a lot (e.g. battlefield 3). And please just because we are all super sexy, intelligent people who bought Wii U’s doesn’t mean we have to resort to throwing shit back at the trolls about their machine of choice.

      • Erik

Im not really into PC gaming. I mean sure you can put a lot of cash (be it $800 or higher when building one) into it and yet i will still miss something out of it or either a new component either a graphics card or anything else that will come out. I’m pretty sure the Wii U is capable of getting the most out of it. Look at Most Wanted U… Its actually better graphically (slightly better than the PS3 version of it.) because from what i researched, MWU uses PC graphics and it was ported well enough. Xbox is what i don’t like the most because one.. I don’t want to pay more to play online and people are just too stuck up about thinking Xbox is the god console and Playstation.. its alright at best since i have a PS3 but from what i heard (or maybe just rumors) that the PS4 online will force you to subscribe their service for a monthly fee. This is why i prefer Nintendo everytime and I don’t care if anyone says that it sucks and so one and getting this and so on..

        • oontz

“Look at Most Wanted U… Its actually better graphically (slightly better than the PS3 version of it)

Slightly better than a system that is almost 8 years old? And you’re proud of this?

“the PS4 online will force you to subscribe their service for a monthly fee.”

$49.99usd a year for Playstation plus. Do you even know what you get for being a PS+ subscriber? In the first year of the PS+ Instant Game Collection – 64 individual (FULL) games were offered free of charge to subscribers. The Instant Game Collection over the last year has provided subscribers with $1,043usd in free games, more than 20 times the cost of a subscription for that year. Pretty impressive.

        • ICHI

Oh yeah most wanted used pc graphics and looks gorgeous for it. I wish more people had bought it just to show EA they were wrong and it was just their lazy ports which Nintendo players didn’t like. And I too hate subscribing for online, especially as they fill that online space with advertising which slows down the loading of my games. They (MS) should have had adverts for people on silver accounts and let them play online and no adverts for gold.

  • I_I

will I think the Wii U may not be the highest in unit sale but it will be the most profitable in term profit per unit
The Wii U bad start it’s good point. Bad start when you sell unit at lost then a good comeback when you sell the unit at profit. If this is Nintendo plan all the long I think they’re smart crazy. Unlike the other units that sell at lost for a long period of time during the console life time, So I’m not worry about fall lineup or next year line up

  • zajac1661

I disagree with the “hard to see a difference” the difference is on black and white paper. It is a no brainer to see the hardware specs, and understand how it will work after the last gen transition is over. Nintendo has a strong card though.. The WiiU will be able to follow along a certain ammount of third party games. And nintendo finally runs in HD. It has some of the worlds best first party developers and strongest gaming brands around. It would be a sin, not to have a WiiU alongside one of the other upcomming consoles, with the incomming Big Nintendo titles.

    • ICHI

Nintendo removed themselves from the hardware race during the Wii as they didn’t see a current market, which I feel was a little premature. Sure the big more powerful machines this gen are going to get some great looking games which come at a price of very costly programming assets and larger programming teams. With so many games companies going bankrupt this last gen by putting all their eggs in one basket smaller indie games were the only place to consistently find innovative new games. Even with large install bases across all platforms the majority of people buy big yearly iterations and I can’t see that trend going away soon, I hope it does but it doesn’t look like it. I imagine this gen many smaller companies will have an output similar to ps3 and xbox360s specs so they can release on everything going (at least for the first couple of years of the New gen. Nintendo are in a good position then if they can get more machines into people’s homes by having a cheaper alternative to xbone/ps4 which can also provide great looking games or at least should run ports of games made by a company in the proposed middle ground. But that’s a lot of speculation and relies on someone at Nintendo realising this and making the Wii u an attractive prospect to those 3rd parties.

      • zajac1661

That is definitly the way Nintendo could stay put in the market. And as you state i definitly, agree with it as a clever move. Being known for not supporting indie developers well in the past, to be totally greeting it, could be a game breaker. Let us hope they throw out some good marketing in the time to come.

  • Adrian

Honestly, choose whatever damn system you want, and you probably won’t regret your purchase either way.

    • oontz

  • Yousif Alromaithi

Nintendo will out best Michael Pachter claims no matter what. Just wait and see because Japan is seeing some increase of sales. So Nintendo is not a stupid like the analysts to remove the Wii U from the market.

  • 00EpicGamer00

Oh my god guys! I finally got a response back from Nintendo! :D
For people that don’t know (which is probably everybody), I sent them an email a few days ago about making an attachment for the Wii U that allows you to play DS/3DS games on it. This is what they responded with. Also, I apologize that this is off topic, but I’m just so excited! And I’m interested to hear what all of you people have to say about it. So without further ado here it is:

    “Hello,

Thanks for contacting us to share your idea, and thank you for patiently awaiting our response. While we always try to respond to emails as soon as we get them, we’ve been unusually busy over the past few weeks.

I can definitely see why you would want to see an attachment that allows the Wii U to play Nintendo 3DS games, and I’ll make sure that what you said will be forwarded, so your feedback will be heard. While I can’t guarantee that we’ll release this kind of product, we certainly take all feedback into consideration.”

    • Decker Shado

So hopefully, we might see this generation’s Super GameBoy? Or.. 3DS U?

      • 00EpicGamer00

You’ll probably see something like that some day…..I think I might of changed the future :D
If Nintendo does release some sort of attachment like that, remember that it was all because of me. Unless Nintendo has already thought of doing that.

        • Decker Shado

Oh I will. It reminds me of that letter I sent about how lenticular screens would be easy to implement in handheld devices. :)

          (seriously)

        • Edward

I should get some credit lol. Even though I didn’t email them lol.

          • 00EpicGamer00

            Oh yeah :O
Me AND you possible just changed the future. You’re the one that thought of the idea first. I was the one who emailed them.

          • Edward

Thanks :). I think there should be a slot for ds/3ds games and then a slot for GB/GBC/GBA games. That would be amazing even though I think they are bringing the titles via Virtual Console.

          • 00EpicGamer00

I would love a slot for GBA games. My favorite Mario game ever is on that little handheld, Super Mario World :’)
Here’s what it looks like, in case you’re not sure what I’m talking about:

          • Edward

I actually never played it but I love Mario games.

          • dinos24

            I’ll start the petition!

          • Edward

Let me know I will sign it.

          • Edward
          • 00EpicGamer00

            I signed :)

          • Edward

Cool man. I put this on a different article and got some negative feedback. I really wasn’t expecting that, while I can see their point, it’s not like they would have to buy it. It would be an add-on. I think it is an amazing idea because I liked the Game Boy Player and Super Game Boy for Super Nintendo.

    • Your money

Hmmm, this idea might work Epic Gamer, considering that Nintendo has done something like this for the game cube ( a port that lets u play gameboy games on the gamecube.). This might also balance competition between Nintendo’s portable system and console, because from what i’m seeing, the 3ds is pretty much gaining most of the attention. With a Wii u port for playing 3ds games, this could possibly gain more sales for 3ds games, and more systems. The only thing that Nintendo will have to solve is the 3d capabilities. But what i’m seeing is a triple win.

    • Edward

OMG….. I hope this works out man. Our idea is gold, there is so many games on the 3ds that I would love to play on the big screen. Especially when the new Legend of Zelda game comes out for the 3ds. I should email them too so that they no there is demand for it. Where did you email them at?

      • 00EpicGamer00

Their website, actually. First just click “support” at the top. Then scroll all the way down, and under support, click “contact us”

    • discuss

Your idea is almost original … almost …

    • oontz

Sounds like a typical corporate email response. I hope your idea does get passed up to the people in charge but it is very unlikely in a company as large as Nintendo.

That being said, unless the 3ds games were emulated internally and upscaled they would look HORRIBLE on a big screen tv. It’s (3ds) native resolution is 118 DPI at 800 x 240 WQVGA. It would look okay on the gamepad but then you would lose the dual screen functionality.

      • 00EpicGamer00

What about the gameboy extenction that was for the gamecube? The games looked perfectly fine on the TV.
Having DS/3DS games ONLY be playable on the gamepad would defeat the purpose of the idea in the first place. Might as well just buy a 3DS XL and just forget about this idea.
I want this to happen because their’s certain games for the 3DS that would be more easier for me to play on a big TV. Mostly big adventure games, like Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D.

  • Ice Climbers

The one thing I fear is that Wii U will have to deal with competition from the 3DS just as much as the PS4/XB1. Everybody that I know of that wants a 3DS and hasn’t caved in yet are waiting for Pokemon. With both Pokemon X/Y and Zelda A Link Between Worlds, the 3DS will sell like hotcakes. Any person that is looking to buy a Nintendo system this fall will choose the 3DS because it has a much better library, is cheaper, and it has Pokemon.

    • Your money

U have a point, There are some great wii u games coming up, but will that be enough? The 3ds has been getting a lot of attention in fact, probably the most attention. What if the 3d’s popularity over shines the wii u? What if the 3ds is the downfall of Nintendo’s own console?

    • discuss

You might not have noticed but the 3DS is a handheld and the Wii U is a console.

      • oontz

Doesn’t matter. Companies should always be careful of their other product lines cannibalizing their sales. Regardless of if one is a home console or portable. They both play games and if they are priced close to each other they could potential cost Nintendo WiiU sales.

        • discuss

I do not want to sum up all the differences between a console and a handheld to prove you are only right for 1%.

          • oontz

regardless of difference in product line, if they’re priced similar and do similar things (like play games)… they pose the risk of cannibalizing each other’s sales. It goes both ways. Someone may buy a wiiu instead of the 3dsxl or someone may buy a 3dsxl instead of the wiiu. It’s basic business. Go back to school.

          • discuss

You really can’t understand that a handheld and a console are very different? You’ve read it in your book but don’t seem to understand the thought process behind it.

          • oontz

They are different you wanker. One is portable the other isn’t. Why not read what i actually wrote before making yourself look like an idiot. If a company has two products that are similar (do similar things) and the company sells them for a similar/close price, then there is a HIGH risk chance of the company losing sales to ITS OWN product line. This isn’t rocket science, just basic business.

          • discuss

You still don’t get it … sigh.
Your logic: A company makes hellicopters and jumbo jets. Hellicopters can fly and a jumbo jets can fly. Both products are similar (fly) so the company is losing sales to it’s own product line. (ignoring pice factor in this example)

Now i know the difference between a handheld and a console isn’t as huge as the example above. However it’s still big enough so the hance of the company losing sales to ITS OWN product line is very small.

Did you ever take your Wii U with you while travelling?
Did you ever play on your tv with your 3DS XL?
Did a friend ever mention to you “hej lets play on your 3DS XL?
Can you buy the same games on your 3DS XL as on your Wii U?
Can you play 3D on your Wii U?
Do you want me to continue?

This isn’t rocket science, just basic business and a little bit of simple reasoning.

  • Jack5221

Lol Patcher… The analyst is not really wrong. The very reason Wii U is not selling so good is because the lack of 1st party and exclusive games for it. Pikmin 3 gave Wii U sales a HUGE boost in Japan and that was only one game. Now Imagine what the next batch of games will do.

    • oontz

pikmin 3 generated around 10,000 console sales in JAPAN, how is that a HUGE boost?

  • springer85

for the people crying at the price of Apple products………Since 2007 450 million Iphones have been sold, and since 2010 Apple has sold 290 million Ipads.
Great idea Nintendo to enter the tablet market with one that looks like it belongs to fisher price to compete against the slick, sleek ipad line!!

And I bet you run out and get a new one every year because that is what Apple basically makes you do.. You have to get a new one every year or two because they stop supporting the old ones with updates and features.

      • oontz

Ummm, no. I STIll use my original 16gb ipad 1, on the latest firmware, with no issues. Thanks for coming out.

        • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

Well in my experience you are not the norm as I am frequently dealing with users (and family/friends) that get a new one every 1 to 2 years because they bring it to me saying they want their stuff transferred to the new one and their email set up on it.

          • oontz

LOL, if someone doesn’t know how to backup and transfer their apps, media and set up email. No wonder they buy a new one every 1 to 2 years. They are brain washed into thinking they need the new one. Truth be told, my Ipad is no where near a new ipad 4, in speed and specs but it still does the job and does it well.

          • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

Apple’s marketing works well on the weak minded. And I know I signaled out Apple but I think this is the trend in the SmartPhone/Tablet world anyway where new devices come out every 6 months to a year (often with only minor improvements/features) and the marketing makes it so you should feel you have to upgrade.

I try not to follow this trend and upgrade only when I need to which is usually when my current device is no longer usable. I got my first iPhone with the 3G model but skipped the 3GS, 4 and went to the 4S.. I may have waited longer but the Apple iOS updates made the phone horribly slow and the screen was starting to go.

    • dinos24

May I mention the GamePad isn’t a functional tablet outside of the Wii U’s ~50 foot range? Its a controller, dude, not Nintendo trying to enter the tablet market or even attempt to compete with the iPad.

  • springer85

Pikmin only made 10k more people go out and buy a Wii U in Japan that number is pathetic!!
The worrying thing for Nintendo is that most of the people who are gonna buy Mario, Mario Kart, Smash Bros are ones who already have the console!!
For $50 more the consumer can buy a next gen ps4 that shits all over the gimmick u!!
Better graphics, better online, better features, better launch games, more powerful, better exclusives on the way in the first year!!
Patcher is right the Wii U will be dead end of 2014!!!

    • Patrick Francis

Actually I would pay $500 for a game system that ONLY played Super Smash Brothers and had online capability.

      It needs no other function.
Oh, and I would pay $50 a month for the online service so I could play Super Smash Brothers online.
That is how much better Nintendo Software is, compared to everything else coming out.

      • oontz

        Then you’re an idiot.

    • NkoSekirei

ur more pathetic like the rest of the trolls on here go back to ur bridge noob

    • Antar Rodríguez

you again?? dude how is it that you dont get banned, you are full of crap dude get out of this page stop boycotting the wii u, and your phrase LMFAO u use it all the time at this point you dont even have an ass anymore.

    • oontz

Hey, he may be pathetic but he has a point. So far in Japan Pikmin 3 is not the system mover Nintendo was hoping it would be.

  • Jeffery02

I have actually been saying the same thing. There is no doubt in my mind that the Wii U will survive. The question is whether or not it will thrive. This won’t be Nintendo’s last chance to help the Wii U succeed, but it is a very important one. If Nintendo can sell the system now, then it will be easier to keep it successful later. They just can’t slow down once it happens. Get the Wii U off of the ground this year, keep it afloat next year, and the Wii U may just be successful for a few more years to come.

    • Leo

They have already guarantee the console until mid 2014, after that we have no idea what will happen. Starting with Pikmin 3 we have a whole year of continuous flow of great releases that will keep WiiU afloat until Smash Bros is released.

      • Jeffery02

With the PS3 and Xbox 360 lasting an amazing 7-8 year generation, I can see the PS4 and Xbox One lasting somewhere between 7 and 15 years. So let’s say that they will be due for a new system between 2021 and 2029. By that time, the Wii U will be WAY overdue for a successor. So what if around 2017-18 that Nintendo decides to release a Wii U 2.0 (so to speak)?

Imagine it. (This is just a what if scenario to prove my point and not actual speculation, but…) What if Nintendo were to make a Wii 3 with similar, or even superior, specs to that of the competition? They won’t have to break the bank as the tech will be cheaper and more stable then, so they will still be able to keep the price down and the quality high. Everyone might bash them again for being behind (like every other generation), but no one will complain that Wii 3 would be on par with the PS4 and Xbox One. Since the PS4 and Xbox One won’t be due for a successor, Nintendo could even go slightly farther in specs and be the top dog (in hardware) for at least 4 years. This would allow Nintendo to have any 3rd party game that the other consoles get for a few years easy, giving us all the 3rd party games as well as all of Nintendo’s IPs that we want.

They could improve the GamePad and make a GamePad+ with a better resolution screen, multi-touch, better battery, and more independent features. On top of that, they could allow up to 4 GamePad+’s to be used at one time. They also don’t have to stop there. Nintendo could also add or improve any other feature that they want so that they aren’t just simply upgrading specs like every other console does. If they did this, then sure it would be another slow start, but it would also allow them to do just about ANYTHING in the gaming industry.

        Some of the other features I would LIKE to see on top of this are;
        1) The ability to take a GamePad+ to a friend’s house with your Mii, your game stats, and your game saves to be used on their system through a “guest NNID profile”.
        2) The ability to edit Mii’s, friend people that you Mii’t (get it :-P), and play smaller games on the GamePad+ independently. Kind of like a super advanced Tamagotchi, but better and with the ability to take some of your console stuff on the go (It doesn’t even have to go as far as allowing VC games to be played on it independently. It could just be small mini-games designed just for this purpose).
        3) Much more internal storage space of the console itself.
        4) More features dealing with connecting this new console to whatever new portable Nintendo comes up with after the 3DS.

          Keep dreaming

          • Jeffery02

That’s what that was. A dream. A dream that could actually happen if Nintendo so chooses. Incredibly doubtful they would, but they could.

  • Rax189

Wii u should make a game where mario and sonic switch worlds only it’s set up like SA2 where you can play as heros and villains only the options are Mario and Sonic and they are in each others worlds but the gameplay for mario in sonics world is like SA2 and sonic in Mario’s world is like New supers. A game like that would make so much profit but noooo they have to make a game where mario is a cat xD

Well, it’s not like these games are going to do anything: Zelda, Smash Bros., Mario Kart 8, SM3DW,…

    • Antar Rodríguez

they are, but sadly not this fall as analysts and 3rd party devs want

  • TheGamerGeek128

Isn’t this what most people already assumed and since that’s the case, I think Nintendo’s lookin’ good right about now.

On an unrelated note, this took a long time to post because everytime I refreshed, a pop-up appeared in front of the “post” button.

    wii u will be ok

Of course it will… It may not be number 1 this generation but in the end it will hold it’s own against the competition.

Im sure holiday season is not Fall.

Technically it is since Winter does not start until December 21st.

You’re right, Im just used to Christmas.

  • Derek D’Arcy

I think games have become an experience rather then a way to enjoy ur self , sure the last of us looks awesome all credit to naughty dog ,but when a friend comes over its a type of game ”don’t mess my saved game”, Nintendo have a healthy mix of genres ,also there a fixation of the new game this month , i got that vibe all the time when i had a 360. Wii u backwards compatibility begin a blessing metroid trilogy, xenoblade, smash bros, mario galaxy.

    • oontz

“but when a friend comes over its a type of game ”don’t mess my saved game””

Yeah, it’s a shame there is only ONE available save slot and you can’t start new games or play multiplayer.

  • Piston Honda

No one wants crap box. I have a high end Pc and the graphics capable are on par with the wii u. It all comes down to the games. One Smash Bros Drops this holiday season and parents look at the price tag of a xbone or all their child hood faves plus games for there little ones the only people on Xbox are college kids. Not your nerds but your frat boys. Nerds have Pcs instead of girlfriends. Frat boys just plug and play and they are usually turned on to the gore. I can’t wait to see Bill Gates Microsft crash and burn just like there surface rt.

    • John Raybell

      they will never crash.

      Sad

      But true :(

But at the same time some aren’t fanboys, some want them all, i have a gaming rig more powerful then any next gen console, a wiiu, xbox360, a wii, 3ds yada yada

Plan on getting xboxone and ps4 too.

      Lets just play games :)

      • Piston Honda

I plan on getting a ps4 but no xbone.

    • oontz

” I have a high end Pc and the graphics capable are on par with the wii u.”

This statement does not compute. Are you saying your high end PC can only produce graphics as good as the wiiu? If so then you don’t have a high end PC, sorry.

      • Piston Honda

I did not say equal I said on par there’s a difference. My point is we are at a graphics bottle neck where we are limited by the artist not the upgraded hardware. I can run any game at full speed on my pc and the graphics still don’t draw me in as much ad these new games coming out on wii u simply because the games like picmin are highly polished and games on steam are ehh kind of buggy and not that mindblowing. Yes some things will look better. But we’re at a point where that doesn’t really matter.

        • oontz

lol, “equal” and “on par” actually ARE the same thing.

          • Piston Honda

They are equal maybe even better.

          • oontz

            the PC or the Wiiu?

          • oontz

If they are equal then you don’t own a high end pc.

  • Cube

I’m old and I play Nintendo games only and when I look at COD and AC, I’m like those are kid games.
Honestly DK Returns for wii is probably much harder then CoD.

    • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

Sad part is that many parents let their kids play those rated M games.

      • John Raybell

sad part is when people shelter and think that matters.

Nothing wrong with M rated games, they don’t harm anyone. people who think other wise have a screw loose.

Some people use opinion and some people use facts.

Join me on the side of facts, its a nice place over here :)

        • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

I think there is to a degree if it is not managed by the parents. Younger children are very impressionable and way too often parents buy these games and do not enforce good moral values on their children. Most of the time children (that were raised right) come to an age where they can determine right from wrong on their own which is why these games get the M rating usually meaning 15/16 or older.

So I agree the game itself is not the culprit but the combination of the game and poor parenting. The game is used as a scapegoat just like the whole “guns kill people” BS and do nothing to solve the real issue which in this case is the child and the parents or guardians. Being the son of a Police Office/Detective I grew up in a house with guns, played games on the PC back in the DOS/Win95-98 days that had violence and swearing in them and I was raised with a good moral core that allowed me to differentiate the game world vs the real world. Unfortunately today there are many children that grow up to be young adults that did not have this type of guidance and this is the group these games affect.

So I will say that despite a childs moral center I think that there is no real good reason for a child to play these games if they are way under the age rating. To use a personal story I have a cousin-in-law that is now 10 but was allowed to play GTA when he was 4 – 7 years old. His grandparents (since his mother was passed away) said he just likes to drive the car around. He was not supervised and IMO poorly raised with no guidance and now he is a little punk. Do I believe the game made him that way? NO, but I think that the focus should be on raising the child and making sure they are able to handle such a game before you play it. I have witnessed too many times kids in the age groups of 6-13 throw hissy fits in stores like Best Buy and Gamestop because their parents will not buy them the new CoD, or Halo or some other rated M title. Heck they throw fits for any game and to me those kids should not play any games (especially rated M ones) until their parents are sure they are well behaved enough.

I guess that even though I love video games and grew up with them since before the days of Nintendo something happened within the last 15 years or so where dependence on video games took over so many lives and that I attribute to poor parenting.

Sorry for the long post but I wanted to be clear on my position on this subject.

EDIT: I am not the one that downvoted you BTW… I rarely downvote except to the obvious trolls that like to swear, call names or spread lies.

    • Marc Duarte

They really should change the label from “Mature” to “Immature”, because that’s what these games really are. Real mature adults don’t care about trivial things like image and being cool, and will play any game regardless of what age group it targets as long as it’s fun. Age ain’t nothing but a number.

      • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

I basically say that to everyone that says Nintendo makes nothing but Kiddie Games…. So many times I hear people (who usually call themselves hardcore gamers) in the age group of 12 – 22 (usually) that say adults that play Nintendo games should grow up and play real games referring to most everything rated M.

        • Marc Duarte

There’s no such thing as “kiddie” and “mature”, only ignorance. And if that’s the true definition of “growing up”, then I’m perfectly content with being a kid-at-heart for the rest of my life. People who tell you otherwise are just no fun to be around and are obviously miserable themselves. Because a bona fide happy person doesn’t care whether someone plays colorful-looking games meant for a younger age group. That’s how you can truly tell who’s happy and who isn’t. The unhappy ones are those who are so darn miserable that they have to pull others down to their level just to feel better. It’s better to just sever all ties with these people and keep your distance. They’re simply not worth your precious time and energy. Just concentrate on what matters the most: playing the games you want to play and having fun. Everything else is irrelevant. If you do that, then you’re truly both an adult and a hardcore gamer worthy of praise and respect.

          • oontz

So you don’t enjoy any mature content in any medium? Movies, television, games, books, etc.

        • oontz

Nintendo is a game system geared towards children. That IS their demographic.

As per the E.P.A (The Entertainment Software Association) whose job it is to research and find out the demographics of video game users…

“The average gamer is 30 years old and has been playing for 13 years. Sixty-eight percent of gamers are 18 or older.”

Further research from Neilson of the last generation of video game systems found

“Wii: The best-selling of the three systems, appeals to boys age 6-11 and usage of Wii by the 18-24 age group, considered the core/hardcore gaming segment, is low compared to the other two consoles.”

Seems the actual facts and data suggest that Nintendo is a kids console. I’ve always said that many adults grew up with Nintendo, but Nintendo never grew up with them. Nintendo has always targeted the younger demographic of gamers. To suggest otherwise is laughable.

That’s not to say I personally don’t enjoy Nintendo games. I still buy their systems and most of their first party titles. Just like sometimes I still watch disney and pixar movies. But I also really enjoy mature stories and experiences that Nintendo IPs don’t offer.

          • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

Nintendo’s demographic is primarily families and not necessarily Children.

I too enjoy games of all categories and ratings but to suggest that because a game is not rated as an adult title therefore it is a kiddie game is just ignorant.

    • oontz

Yes it is a shame that there are only 2 whole games on PS3 or Xbox 360.

  • 00EpicGamer00

Who thinks, one day Nintendo should make like a huge crossover game with all their franchises? Basically, it’d be like Kingdom Hearts, but Nintendo styled.

    • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

I think if they snag up Atlus they should use that developer as an experiment in making crossover titles. Of course this is not Nintendo’s business model but you never know.

    • John Raybell

that’s what nintendo land should have been :).

That would have been EPIC, an entire nintendo world, with worlds from all the nintendo games, some epic massive Nintendo world game, each world a new franchise, but choice of who and how you play it. fully open world :)

two player co-op one on tv, one on gamepad.

It would be like stepping into the Nintendo universe with a buddy.

Man what a fun trip that would be :)

  • Cube

I was abit off topic in my last post but yea, I know Nintendo knows what’s going on with the new PS4 and Xboner but with Nintendo lineup they will steal attention from the other two systems.

  • Moreck

How is Xbox1 going to outsell PS4? If we’re going by pre-order numbers, it will be the opposite scenario.

    • oontz

      agreed

  • WellWisher

I have to say the X1 software lineup looks more compelling to me. Plus the PS4 fanboy community seems far more irritating, I’m not sure if I’d like anything to do with them online. For now though it’s still PC and Wii U for me.

  • Marc Duarte

Try to spin it away all you want. Still doesn’t change the fact that this “fluke” called the Wii beat both the PS3 and X-Box 360 in sales. Your side suffered a humiliating defeat. Deal with it. Keep underestimating Nintendo and history will just continue to repeat until you get it though your thick skull that the Big N is a formidable threat, which shouldn’t be taken lightly.

  • Linskarmo

I agree with that statement, although I think Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros., and other big games should be included as well.

  • daschompi

I´ve read your comments about the importance that graphics has in videogames (or more better saying, the less importance is having). But I want to share some interesting information about pixels and the capacity of human eye to identify them… I´m sorry because the info I found is all in spanish (my native language) but those of you that can understand it I leave you the exact quote:

What´s important to say is: The recommendable distance between the “gamer” and the screen is about 1.8m (most of us sit nearby these distance). The article states that in that distance the maximal capacity of the eye to recognize pixels (and thereby enjoy it) moves around 2160p (we need to take into account that the closer it gets to the limit the better it looks but surpass that a little bit and your eye wont catch the resolution AND the mentioned numbers are for sensitive eyes). And also that for the common normal human eye (as ours) the limit stays a bit above 1080p. So in conclussion the more distance between viewer and screens the more resolution it will need to look awesome!! But that´s ok for people with HUGE screens, but those with normal-large screen size won´t notice a real difference when improving resolution (in games), also that depends on the distance but who would like to play videogames in the living room 3 or 4 meters away the screen. So guys, the maximal resolution in videogames is near, beyond that wont be a real difference for normal players/people.

So, WII U still has some advantage, because the STRONG CARD that Hi-Resolution is for the other consoles actually isn´t that strong! Judge by yourselves, fell free to investigate! It´s not a complete article but has the info I wanted! Again sorry for my english-writting skills! And for the size of this post. But the again: LONG LIVE WII U

  • david jarman

Who gives a crap about who has the biggest balls(or the most) I just want to have the best gaming experience I can get and so far its nintendo. I’m a gadgetophile and I just love playing with the wii u. Jumping from playing on the big screen to playing on the small screen is awesome. The interface with zombiu is awesome. The interfacing with Nintendoland is awesome. If I pick up the controller for the Xbox or I pick up the controller for a ps3, aside from the game itself, I feel like I’m getting the same experience. Right now, the wii u gives a different and better experience. Like I said about the interface. Zombiu, Blackops 2,nintendoland, Nano assault two players and etc. I have had awesome experiences. Now with pikmin 3 coming out and I can play a wii remote/gamepad experience and The Wonderful 101 with its control scheme!!! It just seems to keep getting better and better.

    • Merrfn

One thing is for sure SONY doesn’t have the biggest balls. PS3 and PS4 so far in a way, seem exactly identical. The PS4 and the xBone will have the same gameplay features as a PS3 and a Xbox360. The jump between the 360 to the xBone seems larger than the jump between the PS3 and the PS4.

      • oontz

Yeah okay.. could you please explain how the Ps3 and Ps4 are exactly identical?

        i·den·ti·cal: Adjective
        – Similar in every detail; exactly alike:

        • Merrfn

I never said that they were exactly identical. I said in a way they are. The gameplay so far seems like it will be the same as it was on the PS3.

          • oontz

“PS3 and PS4 so far in a way, seem exactly identical.”

So could you please explain how the Ps3 and Ps4 SEEM exactly identical?

          • Merrfn

I already stated that. The gameplay will be. Please read my comments before replying. Second time you have done it.

          • oontz

No you didn’t, identical means two things are similar in every detail. Please explain how the Ps3 and Ps4 are similar in EVERY detail.

          • Merrfn

It is obvious you are trolling, unable to read or just plain stupid. I have nothing to say to you I have not already. My points are valid and still stand.

          • oontz

Look if you choose to use English as a language to communicate with, then at least make sure you are using correct vocabulary and definitions. Back to school for you!

          • Merrfn

Look if you choose to use English as a language to communicate with, then at least make sure you understand sentence structure and wording. Back to school for you!

When you use a word in a certain context it can change it’s meaning in that instance. I was not saying that the PS3 and the PS4 are identical, I was saying that a certain aspect of them is.

I pray to god you are a troll or English is your second language. You lack the need to understand words in a sentence as a whole. Go troll somebody else I don’t have much more time for you.

          • oontz

            This is what your said.

“PS3 and PS4 so far in a way, seem exactly identical.”

How is that taken out of context? You are stating that Ps3 and Ps4 seem exactly identical. They are not even close to exactly identical, because in English “exactly identical” means that they are SAME thing. No difference in any way regardless of what you tack onto that, they are NOT exactly identical. So I guess wiiu and wii are also exactly identical? I mean NSMBu is the same as NSMB, is it not?

          • Merrfn

I like the way you keep out the part that makes it logical. I am not stating
” that Ps3 and Ps4 seem exactly identical.”

I AM STATING WHAT I STATED, AND WHAT YOU ARE QUOTING WITHOUT KEEPING THE BIT OF INFORMATION THAT MAKES ME RIGHT AND YOU WRONG!

“PS3 and PS4 so far in a way, seem exactly identical.”

Did I give you that rage reaction you wanted? ;)

          • oontz

LOL, I wasn’t looking for rage just for a reason they’re identical OTHER than gameplay. Cause let’s face it, gameplay hasn’t changed much over the years, regardless of console.

          • Merrfn

LOL, my point was that the WERE JUST identical in terms of gameplay.

          • Suck_My_Ballz

Xbox 360 isnt really gonna be a big jump either just to let you know

          • Merrfn

            Yeah I know, but still.

      • david jarman

That’s why I’m going to wait before I commit to purchasing either of the two consoles. I’ll let them work their bugs out and then decide on which system fits my needs. Till then, I’m going to purchase all the nintendo games coming out for this year and next.

  • Ramm

This website is getting really sad. Its just fanboys hoping this thing will succeed. All you see is wait for Pikmin 3 or game X, or that remake. Not everyone likes those stupid ass games and there sales show that. Let the blood boiling begin.

    • Merrfn

No blood is boiling it seems…

    • Adam Porter

i get ya, you do have to be a blind fanboy not to see the wiiU will definitely not be the main console this gen, the game is already lost for nintendo. wiiU will have some games though that fans will want to get, i myself am holding out for zelda wiiU, others may be waiting for that first true successor to mario sunshine or galaxy 2, though i highly doubt wiiU will be receiving many top 3rd party games or interest from many of the biggest 3rd parties. tbh i don’t think nintendo are showing much interest in their own console either, wiiU has been stale now since march, not much of great value has been released on it since monster hunter tri HD.

  • NatT96™

The Wii U can do it!

  • fireheartis1

Wait this dude actually believes the Xbox one Will out do the PS4 3-1. I don’t think so not at all. I know many Xbox 360 owners where I work who are jumping to the PS4 and Wii U because of the crap Microsoft pulled. They all say(and I agree with them) “who’s to say that Microsoft wont reverse it again once the user base is big enough.” I’m sorry but this analyst is completely wrong if you ask me. PS4 and Wii U will out sale Xbox One just because of the crap they were trying to pull.

    • ICHI

I agree with that statement about Microsoft. It’s not as if they’re obligated to keep their policies the same and the way they announced the xbone show they want that environment to run.

  • Justin McDonald

I believe the Wii u it’s going sell millions this fall and 2014,PIKMIN 3 boost up the Wii u last week for 22.000 sold in japan and Nintendo did a awesome job for the Wii u and 3DS…..

  • Martijn Plasmans

Why the hell does this site keep coming with these doomsday articles. Write some decent articles about games instead of these bullshit crapy analist articles.

  • Derek D’Arcy

true but i was thinking mainly certain rpg games or long ass adventure games

  • https://soundcloud.com/rauschenmaschine Kristian Kouvo

Yeah yeah, Wii U will win & prosper, because its games are so Ultimate! :)

  • Truthteller

Too many paid comments to hype up the Wii U. It takes away from real opinions.

  • Dylan Groot

When Mario Kart comes out, it will sell millions and millions. Even if it’s released in 2 years from now.

  • Piston Honda

I’ve never seen graphics like Wii U. A lot of games look better than anything on PC. And yes I use Hdmi on my PC before you ask.

    • oontz

      LOL!!!
Look I love my wiiu, but if a lot of the games look better than anything on PC than you must have a very low grade PC.

  • Piston Honda

I think Ps4 will own Xbone aka glorified PC. Wii u will be the funniest ps4 will be the coolest. Xbone will be the most expensive.

    • oontz

Wiiu will be the funniest? Is there some new comedy game coming out?

      • 00EpicGamer00

I think he meant the Wii U will be the most fun. He tried to say it in a plural form.

  • blaster man

LOL Nintendo makes “second consoles” and not primary consoles. Cal me when Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Tales Series games, Final Fantasy, Elder Scrolls, Saints Row, etc comes out for it.

The Wii U is going to sell poorly until it gets a lot more first party games and until its had a good $100 price cut. No one is spending $350 for a secondary console. Argue all you want, you know it’s true.

    • Piston Honda

All the games listed are current gen. Why would we care if current gen games are on a next gen console. Mass Effect 3 is on Wii u even though you listed it as one you needed to receive a telephone call.. I can see u never played the Wii U console you seem to know so much about.

      • blaster man

You’re right, I made a mistake on Mass Effect 3 though one mistake doesn’t invalidate the entire statement and considering EA has pulled out of Nintendo the point still stands.

As for your argument on “Those are current gen games”, I’d like for you to tell me how many of the Nintendo Wii U games are new IP’s for the Wii U. I personally liked Oblivion and Skyrim and would love to play Elder Scrolls 6 whenever it’s released. I loved Dragon Age Origins (2 less so) and eagerly anticipate the third in the series. Then there’s the JRPG’s, the Tales series anyone? Namco has moved exclusively to Playstation platforms because Vesperia sold so poorly on 360 and Symphonia sold poorly on Wii. In fact an HD Symphonia with games 1 and 2 together is coming out next year for PS3. Once the install base is there the Tales games will be made for PS4. Don’t even get me started on shooters, Gears of War is fantastic – Nintendo doesn’t even try – in fact they’re missing many entire genres in their IP catalog. I’ve heard Nintendo fans say that people only want M rated games for “dudebro shooters” but if you look at Tale-Tell’s the walking dead, the m rating is necessary for the narrative. Meanwhile the story in Mario is once again, “Oh no that meaniehead dragon kidnapped the princess again, Mario put on your raccoon suit and fly to the creepy cookie cavern and save her!”

I’ll be getting a Wii U when it’s $250 primarily so my kids can play VC versions of games I played as a kid. I’m not the exception, you are. Most people aren’t getting the Wii U as a primary console but there’s nothing wrong with that. Nintendo just needs to realize the position they’re in (again) and move to a lower price.

Yeah because I want EA to charge me double for a game or full price for an incomplete one. Ea made 75 percent of profit on electronic sales such as downloadable content and online passes. The price should stay because they are next gen graphics what you fail to realize is there aren’t any next gen games for multi platform they take years to develop for a console. Remember inflation. The US DOLLAR IS DROPPED. Thus all consoles are expensive.

Im going to buy one and it is going to be my main console along side the 3ds. And I’d prefer not to have saints row on the Wii U along with games like grand theft auto. No offence to anyone that likes those games but I think the online Nintendo community is a much better place without them.

call me a fan boy or whatever that means i’m not sure if thats an insult i’m tired of people complaining about every little thing that really in real life doesn’t matter or casual gamers love everything and hardcore gamers hate everything like thats supposed to be cool when i personally or anyone else who feels this way plays a nintendo game mario donkey kong kirby etc. we’re not playing these games to get the highest score we’re playing these to bring a nice part of our childhood that otherwise might be forgotten nintendo is fun plain and simple microsoft is fun the sony is sometimes fun haha any ways why can’t we all think that way this is fun or this is not fun it’s not a perfect world though so i’ll stop there any ways a lot of people think nintendo should stop making hardware and become a third party to microsoft and sony but nintendo has alway said their games will only shine on their consoles if there is a day that i see mario jumping around a xbox 25 or playstation 43 (those are terrible joke names sorry) my heart will be broken if nintendo stops making hardware thats fine but if theres no hardware then no software no more mario no more pokemon no more kirby no more zelda no more of those wonderful franchises i would be crushed but i would respect them for it let’s stop complaining and enjoy everything video games bring cause really when it comes down to it it doesn’t matter it has no affect on our lives it’s not life or death it’s just fun. thanks for reading i know it doesn’t matter what i think but please take a little bit of it to heart.
