Nintendo specifically asked for Stranger’s Wrath HD on Wii U

strangers-wrath-hd

The footage of Oddworld New N’ Tasty shown during the E3 Nintendo Direct was one of the most shocking inclusions of the video, but Official Nintendo Magazine has revealed that not only will Wii U owners be getting New N’ Tasty, but Nintendo specifically asked the developers, Just Add Water, to bring Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD to Wii U as well.

It turns out the developers are keen to bring the game to the Wii U, so we’ll be seeing both New N’ Tasty as well as Strangers Wrath HD later this year. What do you think of this news? Are you excited? Let us know in the comments below.

satoru why is Nintendo not remakeing some of its retro games bring them back from the dead please

  • zerooooo

    This is great news.

  • 00EpicGamer00

That Stranger’s wrath game looks so cool! Does anyone know what it’s about?

    • Baum 「ツリー」

I’m not sure since I never played Oddworld, but this seems to be kind of an openworld, wild west themed action adventure. It reminds me a little bit of the Rango game from the setting and the character designs, but it definitely looks more interesting (Rango was more or less just a Ratchet and Clank clone, that became real fast quite tedious in my eyes)

      • 00EpicGamer00

Sounds good to me. Yeah, I didn’t like Rango the game either, it was so boring and it didn’t even try to go off of the movie, they like tried to make their own thing.
But anyways, I like the main character of Stranger’s wrath, he looks so cool :D Hopefully this game will be exiting, and not boring like Rango. Maybe it’ll be like Red Dead Redemption.

        • Baum 「ツリー」

Yeah actually looking forward to that one :D
I never player (or liked the looks of) Oddworld, but this showcase got me almost instantly ^^

  • Super Buu

Thank you, Nintendo and Oddworld developers. I shall support you.

    • Satoru Iwata

      We appreciate it very much.

  • Jack5221

I have not heard much about this game. I’ll have to look it up and read more about it. But judging from the name and graphics, it looks like fun!

  • lozman1122

I’m not familiar with these games. Are they open world type games? Regardless, awesome job Nintendo. However, I’d also love to see what Nintendo could do with the open-world rpg game. Maybe a new IP Nintendo?…

    • Fred

Isn’t X good enough for you?

      • kahn

X is developed by Platinum, a third party.. but still, it looks badass and comparable to anything bethesdas ever done

        • Wayne Beck

X is Developed by Monolith, which is a Second Party Studio that functions independently but is owned by Nintendo.

          • iCold

            They’re 1st party actually

          • Wayne Beck

First Party refers to the Console Manufacturer. A “Second Party” Studio is an established studio that is purchased by a First Party to create exclusive titles.

          • Luffy

a first party studio is a studio own by the console manufacturer.
in this case, monolith, who is own 96% by nintendo is definately a first party studio.

a second party studio is a studio who the console manufacturer as less then 50% of the share, but who makes games exclusively for them through a contract.
a good example of a second party would be Rare, who nintendo own at its peak only 49% of the shares

          • Wayne Beck

You do realize that “Second Party” is not a real thing and is only a point of Reference for people who work in/report on the industry right? There is no percentage of stock owned that makes something a Second Party Studio. Every game that is Published by the Console Manufacturer is Technically “First Party”. By your definition, Square-Enix would be a Second Party Studio to Sony.

Second Party is just an easier way to say, it’s a studio that was bought or contracted to make console specific titles.

          • Satoru Iwata

I’m very sorry my friend, but we own 96% of Monolith Soft, which makes it a 1st party developer. Our honorable fan, Luffy, is right. His info on 1st and 2nd party is correct. Nothing wrong with being wrong my friend.

Thank you for supporting Nintendo and its products.

          • Luffy

yes, but as soon as more then 50% of the studio is own by the console manufacturer, it become first party because there is no chance of a game made by this studio to go to another console.

rare was never first party, but they probably had some kind of contract with nintendo. they made game exclusively for nintendo even though nintendo didnt own them. that is what we could call a second party studio.

          • kahn

I thought they where 3rd party?

          • Mario

            Ooooohhhhh!

        • Abe

X is developed by Monolith Soft. Bayonetta 2, and Wonderful 101 are developed by Platinum Games.

          • kahn

Yeah, sorry. I got them mixed up. I meant monolith soft, but still, monolith soft is 3rd party

          • Abe

            Nope, Monolith Soft is Nintendo’s.

          • kahn

Yeah your right, i looked it up. Monolith soft is owned by nintendo but the “possible” xeno game their making is a 3rd party franchise

          • companyoflosers

ya but youll never see a xeno game appear for anyone but nintendo right now

          • Ice Climbers

Actually the Xeno- franchise is owned by Monolith Soft now. Used to belong to Square.

          • Richard Yates

            2nd party?

          • Fred

Abe is right Nintendo owns a majority of Monolith Soft

        • companyoflosers

meh, id describe platinum as more of a second party since its owned by nintendo now and cant make games for any other consoles without nintendo giving the ok.

          • kahn

Well platinum is definately 2nd party, but were talking about monolith soft haha

          • companyoflosers

ya i realized that after a few seconds thinking about previous people’s comments XD

          • Fred

Finally someone knows what’s going on yes Monolith soft is making X and they are owned by Nintendo

          • Ice Climbers

That only applies to Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2. Platinum Games can still make games for other systems. Unless Nintendo buys them out of course.

          • companyoflosers

well not really. think of it this way. platinum games is like an adopted teenage kid. nintendo is the adoptive parent. Nintendo is completely in charge of platinum games and as long as its under nintendo’s roof it goes by nintendo’s rules and unless nintendo specifically approves a game by platinum for other consoles, it will not happen. thats like you buying a car with your money and you pay insurance and gas but your sibling takes it out without permission or notice. the bottom line is nintendo owns platinum games now and none of the studios run by nintendo has ever been allowed to make games for an outside console and with them trying to attract more third parties, that will not change this generation.

          • Fred

nintendo is NOT in charge of Platinum!!!

          • Fred

Platinum is NOT owned by Nintendo. They can make games for other companies. They just can’t port W101 or Bayonetta 2 to other systems because Nintendo is funding those 2 projects and that was part of the deal.

          • companyoflosers

platinum was about to go out of business, how else would they still be a studio unless they were purchased by nintendo? unless nintendo paid them up front for the games which still wouldnt be enough to last them until they see profits from the release seeing as how bg budget bayonetta 2 is. idk how big the budget for 101 was but it cant have helped their money issues or at least wont until release.

          • Fred

Nintendo did pay them up front for the work on those games. That’s why Nintendo was able to say they will for sure be exclusives. lots of people are hoping that nintendo buys Platinum, but it hasn’t happened as of now.

          • kahn

I didnt know that, i thought they where 2ndP.

          • Fred

They could be considered 2nd party for those 2 games in that Nintendo is funding the games and the games won’t be going to anyone else, but as far as my research showed Nintendo doesn’t own any portion of Platinum

        • Fred

X is being developed by Monlith Soft NOT Platinum and Nintendo owns the majority of Monolith Soft.

          • kahn

Yeah i know, i got platinum and MonS mixed up cause theyre both Not COMPLETELY nintendo and theyre both making awesome games on the wii u right now. I got them mixed up for a second cause i was typing fast and theyre both awesome developers developing for Wii U right now

          • Fred

            I got ya.
Nintendo doesn’t own any of Platinum do they?

      • lozman1122

X looks awesome, you’re right. I guess I didn’t realize that wanting more games on the Wii U was a bad thing. My apologies.

    • ICHI

Abes odyssey is a side scrolling puzzle platformer about an alien race enslaved as a food source and strangers wrath was a 3rd and first person puzzle, platformer, shooter, western set in the same universe a bit like hitman in that you earned money by taking jobs to hunt people for bounties dead or alive. Was 3rd person while getting around the platforming bits and 1st while shooting sections were in play, it also had a great gun system where you could collect insects and animals to use as live ammo!!! Its tongue in cheek stuff abe was on psone and the stranger was on Xbox (original), ironically published by EA back in the day on an unproven console with a new IP.

    • Ratatat

No they are Linear. Although Strangers Wrath is vast and has towns you visit. I guess you could say its Linear but gives the impression of space – kinda like ‘The last Of Us’. Brilliant Games though, definitely pick them up.

  • Norfair20X5

    Super freakin’ excited!

  • DemonRoach

someone post a video, never heard of these.

  • Joe Fraley

Odd world Abe’s odyssey was one of the best games ever made. I am so pumped about this news.

  • Luke Wilson

SHIiii its nice to hear Nintendo ask developers for games

  • Luffy

yes! this looks really good! ill get it for sure :)

  • ICHI

Oh god this was a good game back in the day, really wanted it on xbla but it never made release.

  • david jarman

    Hot damn!!!

  • Ducked

Now Nintendo, just ask Square Enix about Kingdom Hearts III

    • Christian Schoff

      Dear God yes.

    • companyoflosers

i was surprised to hear kh3 wasnt gonna be a wii u game seeing as how almost all iterations since 2 have been with nintendo on the ds

      • Akatosh

They’re totally trying to steal Nintendo customers. I do NOT appreciate being treated that way!

      • Ducked

And DDD a nintendo title dives into KH3

        • companyoflosers

which one are you talking about?

          • Ducked

Dream Drop Distance, the one on the 3DS

          • companyoflosers

ni i meant which nintendo characters did they use, i never owned a 3ds so i havnt played it.

          • Ducked

What do you mean by “which nintendo characters”?

Do you mean Kingdom Hearts characters???

          • companyoflosers

guess i misunderstood.when you said “And DDD a nintendo title dives into KH3″ i misinterpreted you as saying a nintendo character appeared in DDD. but to comment further on that, most kingdom hearts games after kh2 have released on ds for the most part, with i think one on a sony handheld. that why it surprised me the most about it not being on the wii u.

          • Ducked

Oh no, no nintendo characters in any kingdom hearts games. Yeah, 358/2 Days and Re-Coded on DS, and then Dream Drop Distance on the 3DS. Only Dream Drop Distance and Re-Coded are set after KH2. Birth by Sleep (a psp title) is the prequel. It should come to Wii U, if not then square has lost a lot of respect from me.

    • Satoru Iwata

We did, but they said no. So we will teach them a lesson and outsell them with our upcoming Legend of Zelda project in the works. Then they will come back begging to port it to our Wii U.

Thank you for supporting Nintendo and its products.

      • Ducked

Oh, don’t forget Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros, then there be paying you to port it!

not gonna lie, never heard of these games or studios. but hey, if it attracts some new users so other companies will see rising popularity and hop on board too, more power to ya nintendo!

  • TULFich

Never played the original, so this is facking awesome :D

  • Arthur Jarret

Too bad I’ve bought it since release on PS3… just like Munch’s odyssee – I’d wait for the U version if I didn’t.

If there are no graphical differences, I’ll pick up the Abe’s oddyssey remake on PSN too – just to keep the collection on the same platform (although I also have the first two on playstation 1 – and frankly haven’t even reached the second disc of exodus…)

  • Good Intent

man this is the first article that I read that wasn’t negative towards the wii u

it has been a good news day for wii u owners :P

Who is Waluigi and Satoru Iwata? why are they acting like they represent Nintendo?

They’re just joke accounts. Some guy wanted to pretend to be Waluigi, and one person wanted to pretend to be President Satoru Iwata.
