The Wonderful 101 digital download size is 10GB

The download size for The Wonderful 101 clocks in at a hefty 10GB.

wonderful-101

With the numerous digital promotions that Nintendo has been offering over the last few weeks, it’s clear the company views digital as the future. If you’re considering downloading The Wonderful 101 instead of purchasing it, you should know you’ll have a full 10.2GB download ahead of you. While this certainly isn’t the largest download size we’ve seen, with Lego City: Undercover clocking in at 20GB, that’s certainly quite hefty even for Wii U deluxe owners.

For Europeans, Nintendo is currently offering a promotion to buy Pikmin 3 and get 30% off of The Wonderful 101. The game releases in Europe on August 23 and in North America on September 15. Will you be downloading it or buying it from a store?

Buying a 60″ plasma TV for this game.

    • nin-10-doughfan

      there you go!

    • DragonSilths

Dude NEVER use Plasma for gaming. Image Burn man. LED all the way.

      • JeanPaul

Yea but that’s only if you like pause the game for a while or don’t move. Plus plasma has darker blacks and whiter white colors than LED making things look better.

  • Arthur Zennig

Bought the Pikmin 3 digital just to get the 30% off. No intention to sell pikmin to Gamestop or oder store. I guess wonderfull 101 will have to be the same way.

  • david jarman

I’m buying the physical copie so I can cuddle with it at night…don’t judge me!

    • Maxid765

      Judged! jk

      • david jarman

        D’oh! lol!

        • LoZ4life98

          Hey, that’s a good idea!

  • Andrew Gonzalez

    Physical copy all the way.

    • Gordon Tillett

I concur. If I’m paying hard earned money, I want something tangible. You can delete a downloaded game etc and nothing beats the case, instruction manual etc.

    • Wanderlei

I like them to bring installs to HDD for the best of both worlds, being abot to own a physical copy and have the benefits of faster loading, less noise, less wear on optical drive, etc etc via running games off HDD.

  • Jake

nice to know platinum games is putting effort in Wii U unlike some pitiful companies tgkvgt EA. sorry I hit a couple of keys b4 i said EA.

  • sdmac200600

And this is why the Wii U should have came with more storage…

    • Kevin Sepulveda

It would of cost more if it did. They give you the option of buying an external hard drive for more space which if you shop smart you can easily get a very cheap 1 Terra or more! Making it more affordable than if they would of done it for us :) I got one for only 25 dollars!

      • sdmac200600

Well if you got a terrabyte drive for 25 bucks, Nintendo could have done the same and just took a lose of 25 bucks.

        • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

eeh… you couldnt get that low a price buying them in bulk

          • sdmac200600

Actually, if you buy in bulk, you save money instead of if you just bought one.

          • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

Not necessarily. That 25$ price tag is probably refurbished or from a company with not a lot of stock. Big companies that could produce the volume nintendo needed could charge less for bulk, but it’ll still jack up the price

        • Christian Schoff

Hard drives use a different type of memory than the Wii U.

          • sdmac200600

I know. Which is why Nintendo should have just went with a normal hard drive and put at the 250 gigs in the Wii U. While it has a slower read time, it’s much more cheaper.

        • Kevin Sepulveda

I agree that they could have but they did not unfortunately :( But its not that big of a deal if you can afford a Wii U I’m sure you can afford a cheap Hard Drive. You also have the option to get the physical copy so no one loses here.

          • sdmac200600

Yeah true. I mean I have a hard drive that I’m using for my Wii U but I would have preferred not to have to buy one.

        • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

That would increase the size of the console even if they used a laptop sized drive. Also that means additional power and heat. Sure they could have done it but I think having the drive external is way more convenient. Use the reliable internal flash memory for game saves and updates and a removable drive that you can easily replace and back up for your games.

  • skyloft87

This is the only thing that bugs me about the Wii U. I love the thing but more hard drive space would have been nice.

    • Andrew

true, but you could always use a flash drive and/or external hard drive to expand it

      • skyloft87

Yes and I will when that point comes but with most systems coming stock with around 500Gb now a minial 50-100 would have been nice.

  • Steven_Segal

People complaining about storage on the Wii U. You can buy an external hard drive very cheap if not then just buy the physical copy.

    • Ducked

It’s not like it would cost Nintendo a extra $100 to add more memory. It’s something they could have done easily.

      • YayGs

Depends on how much memory we’re talking about. They are using flash memory which does read faster than a standard hard disk drive. Any additional memory would have increased the cost of the system for us since they planned to sell for a profit. I don’t know about you, but $350 was just enough for me, any more and it would have been the Basic set or another few months for me.

        • Ducked

If the Basic had 16GB, and the Deluxe had 64GB, then I’d be happy. Since you wouldn’t need to buy more memory until further down the road…

          • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

Either way someone would eventually run out and then be unhappy that the system should have come with more. To be honest 32GB is plenty for those that just need it for game saves, game updates, some DLC, and eShop and Virtual Console titles. Most people still prefer their games on disc anyway. I have downloaded Sonic All Star Racing and Luigi U and some decent size eShop titles and many VC titles and I had 14GB free out of the 32GB. Then I got myself a bigger USB hard drive for my desktop computer and moved over the 2TB one and moved my bigger games off leaving the 32GB for updates and VC titles only.

          • Ducked

I hate download titles, and always buy physical unless it’s eShop. But I wasn’t thinking the Wii U used flash memory…

          • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

I am the same way for the most part. Still a part of me likes the convenience of having the game right in the menu tiles to choose from. Almost makes me wish I could install the games to my USB hard drive.

          • YayGs

I too would be happier with twice the amount it has now. At least it is more than 512MB.. I had only planned on loading my Wii U up with VC games, but with the Digital Deluxe Promotion, I’m planning on getting Pikmin 3 via the eShop, and possibly other titles that I both plan on never selling and don’t mind not having the physical copy of.

          • blindtiger

should of been 32gb with cradle but no game in black white and colors… for $300. you need an external hd if youre doing digital no matter what… the two hd sizes was stupid. 8gb is useless and 32gb isnt enough for downloading full wii u titles anyway

      • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

The type of flash memory used in the Wii U is not really cheap. It is probably something similar to what is used in top end tablets like the iPad and they charge $100 to jump from 16 to 32GB.

I think the reasoning here is that some people may not need anymore storage than that but Nintendo made it easy to expand your storage with a USB Hard Drive. You can get 500GB for about $50 these days which is considerably cheaper than any high speed flash memory.

        • victor

Why not make one console whit around 100GB and one whit 32GB ? Nintendo most look more at what other companies do and how it works.Thy need to keep up whit the times. If thy did we would not have shitty graphic on wii.

      • Tails the Foxhound

I got a terabite and a half for 90 bucks, that’s WAY less than what Nintendo (or any company) would have charged for integrated memory.

      • THEMIGHTYDOOVDE

Giving the consumer the option instead of pushing it on them is much better imo.

Also storage comes in all different sizes and prices, and Nintendo seem to be aware of that.

      • Archiq09

you can put pc memory USB on wii u it’s work

    • sdmac200600

Some people don’t have access to go out and buy a physical copy. Also, the parents who bought the White Wii U for their child will have no intentions on buying a hard drive for the Wii U. Nintendo should have just used a normal hard drive with 500 gigs. that would have kept the basic model the same price and same with the deluxe.

      • Jon

well, from what I can understand, if the parents had to pay for the system, then the child most likely cannot afford any games for them self either and if they could, then they could easily order an external hardrive that is like 500GB if not at least 300GB for the price of one game.

      • Steven_Segal

Yeah but those parents will buy their kids a physical copy.

Edit: Kids like to have the manual and case to look at it and see…

      • Kevin Sepulveda

Well If they do not have Access to go out and buy a Physical copy they can always go and order a Physical copy online. Of course unless they would prefer to buy a 1 TB hard drive online for really cheap anywhere from 25$-50$.Its not that bad.

    • Zelly Jeffers

The 1 TB drive I bought not even a week after I got my Wii U has been put to very good use. I’d buy more Wii U games if they were in the eShop (Had my eye on Mass Effect 3 and Call of Duty: Black Ops II).

      Digital downloads all the way.

      • http://www.cobrablade.com/ Cobra

Same here, really wish Mass Effect 3 was available on the eShop.

        • Zelly Jeffers

I’ve only bought two discs so far and if I could trade those in for digital copies I totally would.

I never realize what a pain in the arse game cases are until I have to move, which I did just this month.

      • brian

All downloads are digital. Unless you consider pooping “downloading”.

    • Yousif Alromaithi

The pad was expensive. The Wii U will receive a price cut soon sometime during the black Friday. So Nintendo could not add more gig or it will be expensive and will not sell like game cube. But still Wii U will pick up sales at 300 dollars and a decent bundle like Zelda or Mario to move units that are left on some angry stores . So no worries Nintendo has a plenty of time to set a strategy.

      • Steven_Segal

It will sell well enough to make 3rd party publishers interested to make games for the system, but 2014 will be the year where all the haters will shut their mouth and probably buy also a Wii U.

        • Yousif Alromaithi

Wii U will hit about nine million this year and quite possible over 20 next year. Mario will bring the sales. I have no doubt people will buy Mario much like what happened on 3DS. If only Nintendo releases Mario Kart this year then it will help a lot to move extra units across stores. But still Nintendo need people to buy NSMU since it did not make money this year.

          • Satoru Iwata

More like 15 million. We at Nintendo like to start off high….like Miyamoto-san. We do think he is high on something with his over smiling.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

            Then let us hope so.

    • THEMIGHTYDOOVDE

It’s mostly fanboys and peeps who don’t understand external data storage who complain about this!

      • Steven_Segal

Yup, it’s better and you can use it for storing other stuff too.

    • http://twitch.tv/dve2k DVE

Are you gonna make any more movies I miss you know that your a cop and all :/ You vs Chuck Norris Needs to happen on a Wiiu game lol!

      • Steven_Segal

I’m partially retired of the movies, Now I work my skills in Super Smash Bros. I would gladly work with my fellow beast Chuck Norris! I tried to enter the new Smash but Mr. Sakurai said that I would be very overpowered for the game! Thanks for being a fan.

    • Saul Strange

That’s not really the point. The console should have been a self-contained unit, without the (almost mandatory) need to spend at least $50 extra on a third party storage device leeching out the back of my Wii U. It’s inconvenient and looks messy.

I’m still waiting for Nintendo to release an official external hard drive that matches the design of the console. I don’t like buying unofficial peripherals, but I guess that’s my problem :-)

      • Super Mario

How are they messy? They barely take up any space let alone are in the way. I think you’re making a big deal of it, but that’s just me. I guess it’s a personal problem then. :)

    • Link Slayer

After buying a Wii U delux and an external Hard Drive you could have enough to buy a ps4.

      • Steven_Segal

        Sorry, what did you mean?

      • Derek

…and you still couldn’t do off screen play for that price point with a PS4….

        • Link Slayer

          I can with a vita.

          • Derek

Right, I’m excited to see the PS4 Vita offscreen mandate for sure that is good all around. But At that price point, in that eco-system it isn’t possible. That’s really Nintendo’s niche is affordable and dependable hardware.

        • Link Slayer

But I do love the Gamepad

  • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

My hard drive chuckled, rolled over, and went back to sleep

  • Kevin Sepulveda

Whoooo! Thank goodness I invested in a 1 Terra bite Hard drive :D

  • uPadWatcher

My body isn’t for digital download (except for indie games) since I don’t have an external hard drive yet, but’s still ready to purchase the physical disc!

  • Ducked

Another reason why both Wii U sets need more memory.

    • Steven_Segal

It would cost more and way more convenient to have an external hard drive.

    • Kevin Sepulveda

Just buy a 3rd party Hard drive. It will come out cheaper than if they would do it for us. If you shop smart anyway. I got a 1 Terra bite Hard drive for 25 dollars works perfectly.

      • Ducked

PS4 is $400 and has 500GB. I’m pretty sure Nintendo could have added more memory then force people to buy more memory

        • YayGs

The PS4 will also be selling for a loss. Of course I’m taking a guess here, but PS3 sold at a loss when it came out at $600.

          • sdmac200600

yeah but it took a loss due to how new blu-ray was at the time. Not because of the hard drive.

          • YayGs

That and the hardware specs. Since they were using disk drives it was the same thing then, not very expensive to increase it’s capacity. I image since Sony created Blu-ray they could manufacture it for strictly it’s manufacturing cost, which probably was still more expensive back then.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

More loss than Wii U because it really did shock us with the price launch. The Xbox One was really overwhelmed at e3.

        • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

That 500GB is a standard hard drive and not flash memory. Big price difference between High Speed Flash Memory used in things like top end tablets and Solid State Drives compared to an old school spindle hard drive.

          • Ducked

My bad. I seriously forgot that the Wii U used Flash memory.

        • Wayne Beck

Keep in Mind, for the PS4 to do off-tv play like Wii U it actually costs $600 because you need a Vita. For Motion Controls, you have to buy the new PSEye for $99. In other words, for PS4 to do what Wii U can do, with very slightly prettier graphics, it costs $700 or Double the current price of the Wii U.

          • Wayne Beck

Better than XboxOne though, I guess. That would costs you $800 Dollars and you don’t get off-tv play anyway..

          • Ducked

PS4 and Wii U are different. PS4 is based off more on power, and original gaming. The vita is a different system, it’s a portable system that you can play anywhere without it being connected to a PS4. The PSeye is probably gonna be crap, so I don’t really care for that. PS4 dualshock also has a light bar that can see how much you sweat, and changes light depending on your moods. There two very different systems…

          • Wayne Beck

Wasn’t really speaking to the quality of either platform, just the price for comparative functionality. If you want your PS4 to do all the things a Wii U can do it doubles the cost of the PS4. Similarly, if you wanted your Wii U to have the raw specs of your PS4, it would double the cost. The price point for both are very reasonable, they simply chose to include different things in the base package. The Advantage for the PS4 being that you can pay the extra cost if you want the Wii U functionality.

          • Graeme Lynch

I think you are devaluing the PS4 to be honest. To compare the consoles is pointless considering they both are targeting different sectors of the gaming market. Obviously the WiiU is better in dealing with off screen gameplay and mechanics while offering that unique Nintendo experience. PS4 is graphically much more powerful and has stronger 3rd party support as well as a few solid 1st party titles. So to allude that the PS4 is a more expensive version of the WiiU is silly and let’s face it neither console can do exactly what the other can.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

True but PS4 has some great games I am interested so is Xbox one. What I like on PS4 is Knack and The Order. Xbox One is Ryse and Dead Rising since I like Frank West for Project X Zone.

          • Michael Jurado

you forgot you gotta buy the matching game for the vita

          • sdmac200600

No you don’t. That was just for the ps3/vita connection. The PS4 is designed with the Vita in mind. The PS4 will be streaming the game to the Vita when the Vita is synced up to the PS4.

          • Michael Jurado

oh that’s neat because, I sold my vita after A. it nearly killed the AC franchise for me with that HORRIBLE game and B. made me buy the game I just bought, a 2nd time just so I can play it.

        • Jon

you can get a 500GB external hard drive for $50…. so if you really want to look at it, it would put both systems at the same price but in order to do some of the stuff the Wii U can already do on the PS4, you’ll pay more, plus you need to pay for online features on the PSN where the Wii U, you don’t.

        • Steven_Segal

Remember, Wii U has the Gamepad!

          • Ducked

A gamepad? Oh really? I never knew that.

          • Steven_Segal

What I was saying is that if you add more memory it will higher up the price and PS4 does not have a gamepad (which is very expensive controller) that’s why is $400 w/ 500gb. If PS4 had the same gamepad as Wii U it would probably be in the $500 mark

          • Ducked

PS4 has a built in blue ray player, Wii U doesn’t. PS4 also has more GPU.

          • Steven_Segal

Yeah but most people already have a Blu Ray or a PS3 so the blu ray is irrelevant (at least for me).

          • Ducked

A lot of people still don’t have blue ray or PS3. The Wii U sadly doesn’t even have DVD player.

          • Steven_Segal

I respectfully disagree because last time I check they are called game consoles

          • Ducked

            Okay I respect that…

          • Steven_Segal

            lol

          • DragonSilths

Most people already have a DVD player anyway. Nintendo is STRICTLY a video game company. A Video Game Console has never needed to have a DVD player or even a CD Player built in. That’s just extras.

          • Saul Strange

Yup I’m one of them, I still don’t have a blu ray player! In fact, the only people I know who watch blu rays are people with PS3′s.

Even having the ability to play DVD’s would have been nice, one less device cluttering up the space under my TV :-)

Gotta admit, the PS4 is amazing value for money.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

You can play your dvd’s on blu-ray as well. Lol. If that’s what you meant. Plus, I know a lot of people who have stand alone blu-ray players, so that’s not true at all. Do all people have them? Of course not, but in time they will put dvd’s out of continuation in the future, but the same can be said about blu-ray. Something better will over take it. It’s never ending.

          • Super Mario

Uhm….I’m quite sure since Blu-Ray players are now pretty affordable,it’s safe to say that most people have one by now. Otherwise, blu-ray players themselves on the market wouldn’t be sold at $200 or less now.

          • Ducked

There about $60-$80 now, that doesn’t mean everyone has gone and bought one yet.

        • Kevin Sepulveda

They are not forcing anyone to buy a Hard drive. They have physical copies of all their major games. You can just pick one up.

      • Christian Schoff

Really? For only 25 dollars? Where did you get that I wonder?

        • Kevin Sepulveda

I got it on sale at my local electronic shop Comp USA.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

I hate you. That is all.

      • Daniel Gonzalez

I’d like to know where you got a 1tb hard drive for 25 bucks. Lol.

        • Steven_Segal

Flea Market, ebay, Goodwill, salvation army?

          • Daniel Gonzalez

I would be willing to bet it was used. Not to say that people won’t sell them for cheap, but it sounds a bit off on price. I’m gonna guess it’s used. Regardless, good steal.

          • Steven_Segal

Yeah, i don’t think it was new for that price

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Yeah. Lol. If someone was to sell me a 1tb external drive and says it’s new, I’d call bs on that. Even so, as long as it works properly as it should that’s a hell of a deal. They still go for 55-65 bucks on the market used.

          • deucezulu22

Nah, with that price you mentioned, you can get one brand new.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

That depends on where you get them. Most of them used are about 55-65 bucks. Most stores are selling them for 90 bucks on average brand new. Unless you get them somewhere cheaper, then power to you. You can get them on discounts so you are right there, but on average, they go for more.

Not that it matters. Either way it’s still a good deal for under the normal price.

        • Kevin Sepulveda

Comp USA had a sale I saw it and immediately bought it.

      • Jim

Can you post a link? It would save me $75

        • Kevin Sepulveda

I bought it in stores about 2 months back :/ Comp USA though in case they do another

    • starwars360

Yes it is good idea. But for me is doesn’t matter because I play 2 games and either complete one of them then delete save game.

But I do bought Trine 2 and it is downloadable game. I might buy some in future. I more into retail then downloadable games.

    • kevin nun—-
    • Jack5221

Honestly, I don’t see the point in buying games digitally. They cost the same, and could take a long time to download. (Depending on your internet and size of game of course.) Getting games digitally is not cheaper for some reason when it should be. Theres no case for it, no CD and no one had to ship it saving on costs and slightly better for the environment.. Just look at the Luigi DLC. Digital is 20$ physical is 30$. Even if getting a game digitally was only 10$ cheaper, I’d still get it. Since they’re both the same in cost, I’ll be sticking to physical copies of all my games.

      • Mc Robins

I don’t have to swap discs or wait for the discs to load after that initial download. I also never have to worry about my disc getting scratched or broken, and if my HDD fails I just get a new one and all of my games are there again instead having to actually get another copy of the game. Also with the Digital Deluxe promotion they give you $5 back for each game towards a new one. If you buy a lot of games it does end up being cheaper.

  • Henry Hotspur

Damn, I’m kind of surprised. Hopefully the game is oozing with content.

“Flash memory is expensive”. No it is not. http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-MZ-7TD250BW-Solid-State-2-5-Inch/dp/B009NHAEXE/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1374861217&sr=1-1&keywords=250gb+ssd

That SSD is $164.xx for the CONSUMER and probably a lot less in bulk/wholesale which is the way companies order stuff. Nintendo could have did this and only have it in the premium model.

    • Kevin Sepulveda

I bought a 1 Terra Bite Drive for 25$ on sale. It works great. Nintendo made it cheaper by giving us the option of buying our own space. Just be a smart shopper :)

      • Jon

yep, not as cheap as mine but my 1TB hard drive was $57 which was totally awesome :)

    • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

That drive is half the console cost.. Even in bulk I cannot imagine them getting much lower than $120 each. Even Microsoft and Sony chose to go the old school spindle hard drive route because of costs like this.

      • timehacker11

It is not half the console. The reason why the Wii U costs so much is the GamePad. The GamePad probably costs $140 to manufacture, thus without the Pad, the U could have costed $249.99, add in the SSD storage I mentioned: probably $299 to 349, the current cost of the console.

        • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

Your reply just further proves my point. The cost of a reasonably sized SSD or Flash Memory is too high to justify the cost to the average consumer. They probably chose flash rom because of it’s speed and reliability so that game saves and data access is fast and almost instant and gave enough for Mid-Use level functionality taking into account that the vast majority of their customers would buy the full Wii U games on disc. So the 27GB or so free of the flash memory was sufficient for most of their customers to get started.

I can see why people would wanted more space but to argue that the cost would be nominal to add more is just silly unless they went with an old slower spindle hard drive which is not as reliable. That is why I disconnect my USB hard drive and use an imaging tool to back it up weekly or when I add new content. I keep my updates and game saves on the fast reliable flash memory.

  • Ace J

iam glad i only buy physical copies for my games. but when i get a 3DS, iam going full digital with my games for the 3DS

  • 00EpicGamer00

This ladies and gentlemen, is why you get physical copies instead of digital.

    • Clel

Nah, that’s not my reasoning. I like my games nice and hard. It feels more… real. Like I can bond with the game better :)

      • Clel

        inb4 that’s what she said

        • Guest

darn it I was going to say that

      • 00EpicGamer00

Yaaaaay, another person that likes physical copies!

  • Daniel Gonzalez

Just 10gb? That sounds about normal for most games today. Better than Uncharted 3′s 87 gb. Unless you have the space to fit it, stick to a physical copy.

    • DragonSilths

Halo 4 was only about 7.5 GB.

      • Daniel Gonzalez

        All games vary.

  • Tom Greene

10GB….why would any waist there time…The delux Wii U only comes with 32GB …oh wait correction 25GB after mandatory update…pathetic. ..

    • Luffy

just plug any hard drive in your wii u and your fine.
I much rather that then having to pay ridiculous price for a proprietary hard drive.

      • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

I think Sony will allow the use of standard hard drives as a replacement. I thought I read that somewhere. Microsoft is sticking with their custom firmware so you know they will offer a bigger hard drive at 3 times market value for an upgrade. Either way Tom is a troll because has to make up lies to try and ridicule the Wii U. 32GB is a small amount but before I added my 2TB hard drive I had two Wii U games downloaded and several eShop titles with DLC and Add-ons and many Virtual Console titles and still had 14GB free to use. Granted the Wii U titles were not that big but still. People can get a 500GB USB drive for around $50 and a 1TB drive in some cases for under $80 if they need that storage.

The 32GB Flash Memory is considerably faster and way more reliable than a spindle hard drive but that comes at a cost so enough was given to satisfy most of the people that would buy a Wii U and Nintendo made it easy to use standard USB Hard Drives as storage.

      • Tom Greene

        PS4 will have 500GB for $399..Wiiu delux 32GB for $349… am I missing something? Hmmmm :l

        • Luffy

          well 2 things actually:

          - Wii U deluxe comes with a game

          - The Wii U doesn’t have a hard drive, it has a SSD

    • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

What a sad attempt on Trolling. The Mandatory update did not take as much as the false reports said it did. Try and get your facts straight mmmmK

      • Tom Greene

Nooo K bro..not trolling …just stating the facts..I might be off on the remaining GBs after system update but the fact remains That the 32 GB for 349 ” DELUX ” system ( that I pre-ordered and purchased day one btw ) is. pathetic…like I said …

        • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

Well just like every other piece of technology in the world the operating system takes up some space. When you get an iPad or Tablet that says it has 32GB you do not get the full 32GB for usage because the tablet OS takes up some of the storage space. When you get a computer that says it has a 500GB hard drive there is some of that hard drive used up for the Operating System and software.

So if you think that is pathetic then all end user technology that gives a user storage space to use is pathetic because they all do that. You have to put the operating system necessary to make the technology work somewhere. Don’t be surprised if the XB1 and PS4 have a nice chunk of their precious 500GB hard drive used up by the mandatory operating system and software that is needed to make the unit work.

    • Kevin Sepulveda

Waste any time? You know you can just plug in an External Hard drive and I KNOW ITS CRAZY but you have ton more space for really cheap.

    • Michael Jurado

lol I have like 10 SD cards with 20~32 GB just laying around the house no big deal for me

  • Michael Jurado

well that’s not that bad seems about average :/ see the way I look at it is Wii U uses a CD you gotta be one dumb mother fucker to lose a CD while the 3ds is a tiny chip so by my logic only 3ds games should be downloaded since they can be lost oh and VC of course

  • Satoru Iwata

It is much better than the 19 gb that we intended on releasing. We hope this helps.

    • MrDownvote

You are a waste of human resources. Go take your slave labour out of Japan.

      • Satoru Iwata

        Hello Simon,

I think it’s time to go back to American Idol. Please pick up a copy of Pikmin 3 on your way out.

Thank you for supporting Nintendo and its products.

        • MrDownvote

Why thank you. Sadly American idol doesn’t want me anymore because apparently I am too negative, and I make all of the contestants cry when they get backstage.

      • MrUpvote

Mr.Iwata please Ignore my evil twin brother, he does not know any better.

I might download but who knows. For certain I am picking up the game and now way I am skipping Kamiya greatest work and new IP. He is a genius and always delivers .

  • Jack5221

Physical copy for me. I love the box art!

  • MetroidZero

Mario Kart 8 and SSB will be digital for me. (Those games will probably fly off the shelves, and I am busy working so…)

But of course if I preorder them…

  • Elem187

Are you sure the game isn’t 12.9gb ??? Kamiya stated it was on his blog.
Oh 10gb download but need a total of 12.9gb of free space… gotcha.

  • e_rocket

If there was a similar promotion to the one in Europe, for the mexican eShop, I would consider buying both games digital, but I don’t think it will be any promotion, so it will be physical.

  • Deadpool U

    I was buying retail anyway.

  • CMB

I’m waiting for downloads to be tied to an account so I can download them to another console if my wii u breaks. So I probably will just get a physical copy of this game.

  • Mc Robins

Digital copy from the store :D

  • http://www.w-o-n.org/ GoldDreams

I am not buying into digital content until it cost less than physical. It’s a scam IMHO that they make you pay for packaging cost even for digital content. It doesn’t make any sense.

    • A SNES Day Off

It’s not really a scam as publishers want to sell their games at an RRP. The eShop is a single channel for them to sell their content, and they will achieve a higher profit margin as the goods do not pass through a wholesaler and retailer.

Highstreet or online retailers on the other hand have the opportunity to undercut digital sales, because they’re selling physical goods between many different stores and that creates competition. The profit has to be shared out among more parties, leaving the retailer with control over how expensive the product is. That’s the kind of control publishers don’t want.

But I agree that physical purchases are, for the time being, still the best value for the original cost and any resell profit.

    It needs attention

  • Linskarmo

This makes me wonder how big Pikmin 3 is.
My main problem with downloading retail games is not storage, but download limits. Lego CU was just ridiculous in terms of size for me. The W101 might be doable, though.

  • Randall Hellmer

This is exactly the reason I said Nintendo messed up their Basic-Deluxe dynamic. Why did Nintendo bother to increase the storage in the Deluxe version when, the people most likely to use up the original 8gb will probably blow out the back of the 32gb as well? Sure, some people might fall between those two extremes if they download exclusively eShop games or something, but even then they could easily run out of room.

  • Mochlum

I’m personally not against digital at all (I think people hate on it way too much…), but this game I’m probably getting retail. I mainly download games from series I know I like and that I’ll come back to often, and I can’t be sure if I’ll love this game (even though it looks good). I still may download Pikmin 3, Wind Waker HD, or LEGO Marvel.

  • Arthur Jarret

    Shouldn’t it be 10,1 GB?

Your the only one ive seen making sense in this sea of fanboys holding their gamepads looking desperately for any glimmer of hope. While nintendo is just coming up with new ways to get the most money out of this paperweight.

      • Juan

People who make profiles like yours are worst than trolls. I come to this site to read some good ol nintendo news and talk with others about the games. Instead i just see creeps like you arguing with trolls while your the one using fake accounts. For all we know you could be a lunatic like the trolls.

        • Super Mario

Didn’t your parents ever teach you not to judge those you barely know or know at all even? :) Some people like to have fun as well as talk with others. You should learn to have a sense of humor and quit taking things so literal. You can call anyone you want a troll, but if you stoop down and start up insults, you’re no better than the trolls themselves. Nice job defeating your own argument.

I’ll be buying digital. My entire next-generation game library is digital, with the exception of a few mistakes I bought early on and a couple gifts for Christmas. I’d give anything to trade in for a digital code to complete my digital library.

Lol sounds like a deluxe system is no better off than the basic system. Given the amount of space taken up by the operating system, even a deluxe system owner couldn’t download the two games mentioned in this article. I love my Wii U, but I don’t really see the point of pushing digital downloads.

  • RazzFox

arrrr 10 gig not ready yet to get a hard drive ill just get the phisical copy . which is a bit of a shame considering the deal for pikman .although ill proble save 15 off the phiscal copys anyway .

  • Sidney Majurie

I bought a 64GB SD card for 25 bucks and it works on Wii U with a USB SD card reader. I just back it up on my Mac in case there’s ever an issue. Very cheap and convenient way to bump your space up to almost 100GB without having to have a HDD attached to your Wii U.

odd considering how developers admitted the game is really short

    • discuss

      Very true

  • MujuraNoKamen

A bit off topic but any news on the Pikmin/Wii U sales figures outside of Japan yet?

  • devmiles

i think nintendo has totally failed with the storage capacity on the wii-u with it’s 32gb max version. we live in a time and era where 500gb is quite normal to have on a console and storage is quite cheap too having 2TB drives for 60 euro’s. coming with all these big games (they knew since the disc capacity is like 25/30gb) they should have come up with 250 or 500gb models. it’s certainly not a costly thing

    • devmiles

i add to this that you can connect external drives to the machine but if you want to take it with you for instance you always need to take the drives too, kind of shitty
