New Atlus titles still “under zealous development” according to Hashino

atlus

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 and Persona 4 director Katsura Hashino has stated that despite the bankruptcy status of Index Corporation, Atlus’ parent company, the publisher’s current titles are still “under zealous development.” Hashino made the announcement via a blog post in which he apologized to fans for the recent occurances and reassured them that the financial status of Index Corporation was not slowing down the publisher.

“I’m sorry for the concerns caused by the recent circumstances, and I apologize. Next year is set to bring many announcements as part of the 25th anniversary of the Atlus brand, but there are a few things I’d like to share before that: all the unannounced titles we are working on are ‘under zealous development’.”

The unannounced titles aspect of Hashino’s post is sure to bring about plenty of speculation.

now Nintendo just needs to buy them :D

I know!!! If Nintendo buys Atlus, the awesome games would add to the library and Nintendo fans everywhere can snack on some delicious Sony fanboy tears. Sweet, yet salty…

While that may happen, this is Atlus’s way of explaining that they are not giving up so easily. Even though they are under bankruptcy they are continuing to make games to please their fans. However if I were Nintendo, the more honorable way is to help Atlus by giving them money or support. If Nintendo chooses that way, they may have a bigger connection with Atlus, and also some 3rd party support.

Edit: And the confirmation of Fire Emblem X Shin megami tensei.

I agree that it might be better if Nintendo did financially aid Atlus. The company has a history of releasing games on PS and rather than buy Atlus over to make Nintendo exclusives it would build better relations to aid. I imagine letting Atlus release games that are multiplatfom would only enable them to generate more revenue. I don’t like the idea of one of the big gaming companies forcing Atlus into sole publishing.
Anyway please announce Persona 5 soon! I need my zaney JRPG fix stat!

shin megami tensei x fire emblem, the most anticipated game from Atlus, can’t wait!

  • Nintyfan

I really hope Nintendo bought Atlus. I don’t want Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem to get cancelled especially when IV was so awesome.

Is Nintendo one of the 20-or so contenders to buy them? i’ve never heard of any clarification, only that SEGA is the only confirmed bidder.

We don’t have any information at this point.

      • Marcus Navarro

        RAWR!!! WE N33D 2 NO!!!!!!!!!!
Welp, in that aspect, you guys are hardly unique. No one seems to know what’s actually going on with the Atlus situation. Didn’t Index already start auctioning off assets though?

        • mojack411

Yeah I can’t remember the exact date but if it hasn’t already happened it should be happening very soon. We’ll probably finally start hearing some news on that topic in the near future.

    • Wonderful101

The gamepad is the perfect JRPG/RPG companion. Nintendo needs to bring more of this epic genre to the Wii U. and acquiring atlus is the first and glorious step to success.

  • SonicLucario

More exclusive Nintendo content I see?

  • Marcus Navarro

You know what? Nintendo’s acquisition of Atlus would make them less dependent on 3rd parties to bring games to their consoles. Of course, they wouldn’t be a citadel, but they’d be much more fortified. Having Atlus would take off much pressure, not to mention the awesome RPGs coming to the Wii U and 3DS.

  • palomino blue

I wouldn’t mind seeing SEGA absorb Atlus. Their relationship with Nintendo is good enough so I’m sure we’d still see future titles on the WiiU/3ds. And since SEGA is a software driven company now it’s more likely we wouldn’t see these titles get canceled.

    • Zombie Boy

I agree completely, Radish Spirit. I’ve said all along that if Nintendo don’t buy them then I hope Sega does. Anyone but EA, Sony or Microsoft, really…

      • Your money

As long as the games are intact, and “a” company treats it the right way, I’ll be fine.

  • JBeauregard

    Better than overzealous!

  • D Moness

I hope this is beside the persona 5 game they already said they were/are working on as well

  • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

Shin Megami + Fire Emblem is a go then?

    • http://about.me/overlordror Ashley King

Looks like it. They haven’t announced any cancellations, but I wouldn’t say we’re in the clear until Atlus is under new ownership.

      • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

I get the feeling that that game is one of the reasons this announcement was made, and I feel like they wouldnt make a deal that undermines this announcement.

Of course, companies have surprised me MANY times before…

    • Wonderful101

They would be senile to cancel at this point

  • MujuraNoKamen

Good, SMT x FE is still being worked on, I’m intrigued to see what it’s actually going to be like. This is another reason why Nintendo should buy Atlus, what if Sony beats them to it? That would be one game down the drain. And if SMT x FE is popular then it increases the chance of their being a sequel (Nintendo only of course)
Even if Sega would buy them, Nintendo could still get the games but they might focus on PS4/XB1 and Wii U would miss out. And what if Sega refuses to publish the games like Bayo 2 – We’d all be denied a great game and if Ninty stepped in to help then we’d get flamed by ingrates, idiots and fan-tards; “how dare a company secure an exclusive everyone was asking for that would otherwise would have been canned!”

  • Adrian

What are the recent happenings or circumstances that they are apologizing for??

    • http://about.me/overlordror Ashley King

Atlus’ parent company, Index Corporation has gone bankrupt, meaning Atlus will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. It’s similar to what happened with THQ and the auction that took place for their IPs afterward, except Atlus will be sold as a whole, instead of divvied up according to the IPs it held.

  • EsperStarr

I honestly hope neither of the big 3 get Atlus. Their relationship with Sony and Nintendo has sprouted a GINORMOUS amount of games and concole exclusives that are both very very important to both sides. If a 3rd party got them, we can still see exclusives for both sides. I mean, Atlus is treasured on both sides. It would be reallly screweeddd if their exclauives or franchises were specific to one side.

I don’t think Atlis would do that to it’s fans…but then again…money talks.

Also, any games in development they already said will not be affected by the merger. I honestly think that Sega may have nabbed them.

  • starwars360

Atlus bought many medicore and horrible games. Persona 4: Arena and Catherine is only good Atlus games in recent years. I never really like Atlus anyway. Good luck to Atlus for future. :)

    • The Clockwork Being

Etrian Odessey is a really good series. So is Shin Megami Tensei 4, SMT Devil Survivors and alot more than you think all 3DS exclusives of course

    • Shiki Okami

      This guy is trolling.

  • Thomas Fitzgibbon

FOR GOD’S SAKE NINTENDO JUST BUY ATLUS ALREADY, DON’T LET THEM GET BOUGHT OUT TO SONY…OH YEAH AND WHILE YOU’RE AT IT, BUY PLATINUM GAMES AS WELL!!!

  • Akai Dani

Seeing persona 5 on the wii u would be dream come true, that and persona 4 golden and persona 3 portable on the 3ds doubt that those would happen but persona 5 wii u is possible

    • Shiki Okami

Seeing Persona 5 on the Wii U is a dream and it will stay as a dream.
