With Disney Infinity launching this Sunday, Disney has detailed how they plan to incorporate the Infinity platform on mobile devices by way of two new apps.
The first of these apps is Disney Infinity: Action!, which is out today for iOS devices, with Android and Windows support coming later. In this free app, you can create home movies that overlay an animation involving the characters from Disney Infinity. Check out the trailer below.
The app includes the three starter characters from Disney Infinity, Mr. Incredible, Sulley, and Jack Sparrow. Each character comes with one free animation that can be used in a video, with other animations that can be unlocked with coins. The in-game currency can be earned by playing the app or by purchasing coins with real money.
You can share your Disney Infinity: Action! clips through e-mail, YouTube, and Facebook. Despite what is being said on some other sites, sharing on YouTube and Facebook does not cost coins. In fact, it is quite the opposite. Users are given 150 coins for each of their first uploads to Facebook and YouTube, enough to buy two more animations.
While there isn’t much to this app, it’s fun and easy to use. Take a look at the video I made and uploaded this morning, where Sulley invades my video game collection.
While the Action! app provides some cute fun, the second app, Disney Infinity: Toy Box, is the one with substance. This app will give the user full access to the Toy Box creation tools found in the console versions of Disney Infinity, so you can create custom worlds and games on the go.
The Toy Box app will launch with Mr. Incredible and around 60 toys and building items, but codes that come packaged with the other Infinity figures will allow players to use their other characters in the Toy Box app.
Players of the console version of Disney Infinity will be able to sync their Infinity game IDs with the app, so they can bring all of their Toy Box items and toys from the full game over to the app, and share creations between the app and console. You can start building a new world on your console one night, develop it more on your iPad while riding the train to and from work the next day, then play in it on your console when you get back home.
Disney has said that the Toy Box app will be available soon after the launch of Disney Infinity. And, at first, this app will be exclusive to the iPad.
What do you guys think of these apps? Is the Toy Box app something you plan to use in conjunction with the console version of Disney Infinity?
