Sakurai teases the Metroid stage for Super Smash Bros.

smash-metroid

Over the past few days Masahiro Sakurai has been very active with teasing information from the upcoming Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Yesterday he showed off Luigi slinging one of Mega Man’s sawblades back at him and today, we have our first look at the Metroid stage for the game.

It’s nice to see the art styles from several different games coming together so cohesively and this stage just makes me wish for a Metroid Prime HD game to be released on Wii U. What do you think? Which is your favorite stage so far? Let us know in the comments.

Dont forget to mention that he said Ridley will appear in this stage ;) Here’s the original post for those who are curious: https://miiverse.nintendo.net/posts/AYMHAAABAABnUYnWb9pUTQ?sctw=1

    • Lusunup

Don’t jump to conclusion he never said anything about ridley so it’s still a mystery.

      • Baum 「ツリー」

Well there aren’t many other enemies from Samus’ past ;)
And Ridley is definitely THE most important one.

As much as I hate to admit to it yes it might be Ridley since this is where they fight… but then again no one can predict what Sakuria meant by what he said in the post maybe it was just referring that’s were Samus a ridley fought?

    • tronic307

Didn’t Dead or Alive Dimensions already include this stage?

      • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

wait what? How’d they get nintendo to agree to using a metroid stage and characters? o.o

        • tronic307

Tecmo’s Team Ninja, led by Nintendo’s Super Metroid director Yoshio Sakamoto had previously developed Metroid: Other M.

          • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

derp there we go. Thanks for the heads up :)

            Good I suppose!

    • Nookling

WAIT. He said that it could appear at any moment. This MAY not be meaning as an enemy. What if you fight so many times on that stage and Ridley comes as a newcomer? I doubt that a LOT but we never know!

      • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

XD alright I’ll allow that assumption

        • Zorpixy

You like what you see here?

          • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

            see where?

      • Lusunup

This is what i’ve been saying..

    • Eli

You and many others are making a pretty big assumption. He said, “An enemy from Samus’s past may appear at any second…” He did not say that Ridley was a stage hazard. His meaning could very well be that an enemy from Samus’s past (hint: Ridley) could appear IN SMASH BROS at any second, or appear in this stage AS A PLAYABLE CHARACTER at any second. This is by no means confirmation that Ridley is not playable, but so many people think it is. I personally think he has a larger chance now because Sakurai specifically made a stage based on a Ridley encounter, knowing full well how requested the character is to be playable. I took this as a very playful tease for an upcoming (hopefully soon) reveal. However, you could still be right. It’s just too ambiguous of a statement that he made to make a judgment at this point.

      • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

You’re right. It’s not an official confirmation as to him being a stage effect. It just kinda makes sense…

        • Zorpixy

          Indeed it does.

  • SonicLucario

Metroid HD big N pretty please OwO

    • Ernie Sanguyo

I agreed we want Metroid HD. They should of pick Metroid HD than DK tropical… I’m sure more people want the Metroid more than DK Tropical Freeze.

      • Fred

Actually go look at sales for the prime games and compare them to the sales of DKCR more people wasn DK!!! Including me

        • Ryudo9

Because DK actually got marketing. MP3 got zilch

          • Fred

Look, I know that a lot of people LOVE the Prime games, but good choice or bad choice they will sell more DK discs then they would Metroid discs regardless of advertising.
Now, if you want to tell me Metroid will sell Systems where DK won’t you might be right there or if you want to tell me the the Metroid players spend more money on video games, then you’re probably right there, but they picked DK, it’ll sell more discs and I’m sure it cost less money and took less time to make so if Retro was making Metroid it wouldn’t be here in time for Christmas.

        • tronic307

It still won’t move a ton of systems unless they include it in a bundle. Tropical Freeze looks like a great game, but I don’t think it’s THE ‘killer app’.

          • Yerba_Sutra

ehhh… “killer app”. Getting so tired of seeing that phrase. Having a wide selection of solid games can do just as much as one stinkin’ analyst-circlejerk “killer app” can. And THAT is what Nintendo is focusing on, it seems.

          • tronic307

I’d like to see Nintendo put out a consistent stream of games, but they have historically focused on getting the most mileage out of each title, releasing a small handful of GREAT games per year. For your strategy to work, Nintendo would have to have a dev team in place for each franchise, which they clearly don’t. It’s more like a team for every 2-4 franchises.

            That’s why we see droughts.

          • Yerba_Sutra

I wasn’t necessarily referring to a constant stream of newly-released games, just a variety of different games. Instead of really focusing on a “killer app” like Wii Sports was for the Wii, they are focusing on a handful of games that will all take advantage of the hardware differently and emphasize different things to different kinds of gamers. Of course, when Wii Sports U and Wii Party U get closer to release, we could see a huge marketing push for them as “killer apps” and I could be completely wrong.

          • tronic307

Surprisingly, I’ve heard Wii Sports described as “life changing” by someone who had never even liked Nintendo before. I guess we would all like to see a game for the Wii U elicit such a visceral response, but lightning doesn’t always strike twice, especially lightning in a bottle.
The whole Wii U concept has been more of a cerebral journey, than a Wii-like visceral experience, engaging the mind before the body, as if to restore balance. Wii Sports converted fun almost directly into kinetic energy, destroying numerous flatscreens in the process.

            Those were different days.

          • Jacob D. Taylor

That is so wrong it’s funny. Nintendo has almost 20 studios but does more software development than people tend to realize. Think of the games under production RIGHT NOW. Smash Bros., Mario Kart, Wii Party U, Mario Party, DKC:TF, Pokemon, Prof Layton, Prof Layton/Ace Attorney, Yoshi’s New Island, Just released Pikmin 3, just released animal crossing, mii verse requires programming, street pass mii plaza requires programming, nintendo video requires programming, virtual console requires programming, Zelda WW HD, Zelda Link Between Worlds, we know they’re developing another WIi U Zelda as well.
While some of those may not seem as relevant, there is nonetheless a team dedicated to them. Mentioned there are 18 teams… surely there are more in the works as well.

          • tronic307

There are nearly 60 game series and you say 18 studios, so the math’s about right. Paper Mario and Super Mario Galaxy are far from the same franchise. NSMB2 and NSMBU were even different teams.

…”Zelda WW HD, Zelda Link Between Worlds, we know they’re developing another WIi U Zelda”

-ALL different teams, so those are each occupied.

            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nintendo_development_teams

      • jay

Wrong. DKC Returns outsold Prime 3 about 5 to 1.

        • Ernie Sanguyo

I wasn’t saying who sold more lol, I just said they should of pick making Metroid more than donkey kong. I didn’t say who sells more lol

          • Derk

I doubt Nintendo will make a FPS Metroid game this generation…. If they do, then it will be competing with games like COD on the same console and the game would have to be online to compete with COD. Why would Nintendo put themselves through that?

Metroid for the Wii wasn’t even in the top 35 best selling games for last generation.

“JUST DANCE” and “CARNIVAL GAMES” sold better than Metroid. I have never even heard of Carnival games….

          • tronic307

I LOVED the Prime series, Other M not so much, but maybe fans are holding out for an internally developed Metroid re-imagining by Nintendo.

No Retro, and absolutely *NO TECMO*!

Metroid is at a crossroads: It either needs to get back to its roots, blaze a new trail, or find some way to accomplish both.

          • jay

“I’m sure more people want the Metroid more than DK Tropical Freeze.”

      • Ducked

Tropical Freeze is much easier to develop quicker then a new Metroid.

      • Mark

From a business standpoint, it was a better choice to go with Tropical Freeze. I’m not saying Metroid is a bad franchise, very far from it actually, but it doesn’t sell as well as DK.

    • jay

I want a NEW perspective for Metroid from a NEW studio without Retro.

      Let the downvotes begin!!

      • ScrewAttack

I want somebody to take the Other M style and expand/improve it. I much preferred that title to the entire Prime series.

      • jay

WOW a year ago i would get TONS of downvotes for this idea……

        • Shadao

Personally, I think many people are growing tired of that whole “Make Prime 4, Retro” crap by now, especially when one considered the REAL reason why people want Prime 4.

      • The Clockwork Being

Retro should be finishing the 3 games that they started and never finished like Raven Blade

    • Ducked

If the Wii U gets a new Metroid game, Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8, new Legend of Zelda, 3D open world Pokemon, 3D open world Donkey Kong, and 3D open world Mario game. Then software wise it will be the greatest Nintendo console since the NES.

      Just saying.

      • Yerba_Sutra

Nintendo’s not going to make an open world Pokémon game for Wii U. I’ve seen lots of people trying to argue one way or another for handheld-quality console games, but they usually forget the main reason Pokémon was created was CROSS-GAME TRADING. I don’t know how having two slightly-altered versions of the same game would pan out on a console, and I’m sure Game Freak wouldn’t sacrifice this forced trading just to have a Wii U release.

Now, open world Donkey Kong… I sure do miss me some DK64.

        • Derk

This new game is a stadium style game. Eventually, Nintendo will develop a console version or the idea will be stolen from them.

They already do release Pokémon games on their consoles. Its just a matter of time before the “stadium” games are converted to an open world game.

          • Yerba_Sutra

Eventually…. maybe, but I really really doubt they are going to sacrifice a major gameplay dynamic that essentially inspired the series just to have a console release that would probably diminish their ability to successfully market games like Rumble U or Stadium (which I am aware of but am not referring to in my previous post). Other companies have made Pokémon-like games for consoles, 3D and open world and all, and it’s never made a significant dent in their userbase.
They could turn around and surprise me though, most definitely. I’m excited to see how they would accomplish it if and/or when they choose to do so. I just don’t see this happening in the near future.

          • Entropyguy

Couldn’t they do cross-game trading via the Miiverse or something? I mean, it’s not like the consoles aren’t capable of going online.

          • subsamuels

Even if it is a Wii U game, pokemon spin-off don’t sell anywhere near the traditional RPG games on the handhelds. Rumors are that it’s a 3D pokemon fighter, either way I’m not holding out any hope until I see more.

          • Yerba_Sutra

I’ve been keeping up with these discussions (I check video game news on the daily… lolnerd), and if it’s a clip from a game in development I’d put my money on a fighting game too. It’d actually be SUPER COOL to see a Pokémon fighting game.
I was just talking to my roomate about Capcom releasing the 3 SNES Street Fighter II games on the Wii U VC, and he claimed that Nintendo gamers don’t play fighting games (mostly focusing on competitive fighters like Marvel vs Capcom). Our conclusion is that Capcom’s likely testing the waters by releasing these classic games, and will decide whether or not to release newer fighters on Wii U based on how well received the SNES titles are. Very much speculation, I’m aware.
That kind of scenario (and those kinds of beliefs toward Nintendo gamers) being likely, though, Nintendo beginning their own fighting franchise through Pokémon could do a GREAT job at introducing the “Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games” crowd to the genre, and encourage other developers to port to the system. At the very least, it’d be great to see a more true-to-form fighting game than Smash Bros. (which, as great a game as it is, tries to stay away from being a FIGHTING GAME proper) on a Nintendo console, and knowing it won’t jump ship when things aren’t going their way.

        • Vextrum

Haven’t you seen the articles yet? You need to read more.

          http://www.screwattack.com/news/rumor-did-game-freak-tease-new-hd-pokemon-game

          • Yerba_Sutra

Seen it. That DOES NOT mean there is a Pokémon game in development for the Wii U. Jumping to conclusions over a two-second CGI (EDIT: I used CGI incorrectly lulz) clip like everyone has been is only going to lead to disappointment – just like when Retro announced DKC:TF. Because of all the conjecture, an awesome looking DKC game that made me more satisfied with my Wii U purchase (literally two weeks before the announcement I had the strongest itch to buy DKCR, cause I didn’t have a version of my own and I needed me some Donkey Kong) got dumped on because people decided it was Metroid instead of actually waiting for an announcement.

          • Vextrum

I have a team of friends and co-workers who help me analyze this stuff. The frame rate and shadow workings on that small bit of video were much too detailed to be CGI. And I didn’t say anything about DKCR.

          • Yerba_Sutra

I know you didn’t say anything about DKCR, I was making a point about speculation regarding Nintendo announcements. Everyone jumped to conclusions that Retro was making a new Metroid, then got mad when it was revealed to be DKC:TF. I say this simply to warn that creating expectations about what this Pokémon clip implies can easily lead to the same kind of disappointment, which leads to people being angry at Nintendo for what I consider a silly reason (not that there aren’t legitimate reasons).
And I apologize for using “CGI”, I am not involved in game development enough to consistently use the correct terms. You can remove the “CGI” and just go with “two-second clip” (which may not have been two seconds but I’m not trying to nit pick about things like that, it’s beside my point).

          • Purin

the Pokemon company have trademarked the name “Pokken tournament” and “Pokken Fighters” and Namco Bandai are in collaborations with Nintendo on a few other not yet announced projects. Namco Bandai also brought us Tekken.

Don’t get your hopes up assuming there will be an open world Pokemon game coming to a console any time soon.

        • Skunk

Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness… If you don’t know what that is look it up and think about what you just said…

          • greengecko007

Colosseum/XD are not open world. They do not have an overworld.

They aren’t full fledged Pokemon games, and only had about a third of the total characters at the time available.

The games got “good” reviews, but not the “great” reviews that main series games get.

          • Yerba_Sutra

^ Was about to say this right here.

        • abe

gamefreak have said like 90 times, they will never do a home console ‘proper’ pokemon game because they want it to be personal. you dont share a handheld pokemon game

          • Spencer Manigat

Good thing I don’t want Gamefreak to touch this game with a 30 yard pole. Give it to a big dev.

        • Spencer Manigat

I’m not even sorry when I say this: That is the most retarded rationale I’ve ever heard. Pokemon has evolved beyond cross-game trading ages ago. There would only have to be one console version. It would be a spin-off with few ties to the main series. It would have an open world and real time action based combat. All trades would happen through the Global Trading station. There could be a 3DS companion app in which you could transfer up to six of your Pokemon to travel around with. Through the app, you could battle with other 3DS’s, Trade with other 3DS’s, or do both with a friend’s Wii U locally. Wii U VS 3DS. That takes care of the pocket “feel” and the CROSS-GAME TRADING in one foul swoop. To not cannibalize XY sales, it could pull a Pokemon XD. It would only have like 250-300 Pokemon. The rest must be traded from Pokemon XY or you can’t get all the Pokemon you want. It works perfectly. I win.

          • Yerba_Sutra

So basically… what I get from your comment is “you’re wrong because I can come up with my own idea for a Wii U Pokémon game”

            cool story bro

tell me more about how you make games for Nintendo

      • CMB

As well as a new f zero and star fox, then it would definitely be the best.

        • sd

Agreed. If Nintendo want to shift more consoles release a new starfox and f zero next year along with their already announced games. When it looks like your down just bring out all of your weapons.

        • Ducked

          And an Animal Crossing game

  • Thomas Fitzgibbon

Wasn’t this stage in Dead Or Alive: Dimensions? Obviously without the platforms though.

  • NintendoNoob

Maybe it’s a message from Nintendo a NEW METROID IS COMING!!!

  • Vextrum

    Dat grafix….

Can’t wait to see whole game

  • Elvis Hayes

my wii u version is the pilot wings stage
and the 3ds version is the super mario 3d land stage

  • greengecko007

Screenshots like this do not do the game justice. The stage looks horribly generic. But as anyone who has played past Super Smash Bros. games will attest to, it’s how the stages interact with the players during the fight that matters most. A good example being the Pokemon Stadium stages. They start out as generic flat stages like this, but transform randomly.

  • Justin Carlson

    Metroid Prime HD PLEASE!!!!

That is one of my favorite games of all time… and I’m having a very hard time spending the money to get the Metroid Prime Trilogy so I can play Metroid Prime on my Wii U.

    • jay

I rather have Metroid Prime Trilogy HD along with a NEW Metroid from a new developer/development team.

    • Ducked

We’re get a new Metroid HD game in the Wii U lifespan.

      • https://twitter.com/Onyzora Ony

        o/

  • Michael Jurado

My favorite stage is without a doubt Willy’s Castle ^_^

  • SuperNardful

To be honest, I’m disappointed. Ridley would’ve been great as a playable character. As important as he is to the Metroid series, he’s just a stage hazard.

    • Mark

I’m not sure Ridley would make sense to be a character; he’s too big!

      • Mochlum

Olimar in his games is smaller then a battery, and was scaled up to be a little shorter then Sonic. If they can do that, they can just make Ridley around Bowser-sized. That argument holds no importance whatsoever.

        • Mark

But think about, Olimar is a humanoid character, meaning its not really strange to resize him. Ridley on the other hand, is a huge monster that could swallow a human whole. His overall design in the game would be extremely awkward.

          • Mochlum

Not really. If they just make him slightly bigger then Charizard and around Bowser sized, he’d be fine. Just look at that image posted earlier.

          • Mark

It’s really matter of opinion; I think it looks awkward.

          • Mochlum

            I guess.

      • SuperNardful

I’ve said this to a lot of other people and I don’t want to really get into the Ridley debage here. But I did comparisons. In Super Metroid, Ridley is only about 1.8x the height of Samus, and his body is thinner than Bowser’s shell. In the Melee intro and Other M, he’s even smaller. Also, I’m actually not disappointed. What was I thinking? The stage looks great! It reminds me of the epic boss fight with Ridley in Other M. Sakurai didn’t confirm it, but from what he said, Ridley might end up being a stage hazard, which would be the part that disappoints me. Ridley is very important to the Metroid franchise. Metroid is one of Nintendo’s big franchises, yet Samus is the only character to appear. I think Ridley should join as her counterpart. But as I said, the stage looks great! I’m excited!

  • Andrew Gonzalez

I love how they’re taking their time with it. This should be great.

  • YiyeUniverseMB

OH MAH GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADDDDDDDDDDD! Needs more ‘splosions. In all seriousness, it looks great!

  • http://wiiudaily.com/ Monomon

What if they really plan to make a new Metroid?

  • Jon

it looks great, though i am getting slightly concerned that all the
stages seem like they are just simple platforms and a lot of them are not going to have the awesome creative fightings grounds the other games had. Remember the other
metroid stages? Kraid rotates the stage (rock)? The Acid moves up and
down? I hope there are stages with this kind of creativity because I
still have yet to see any. They all just seem like regular platforms. I
just hope it is not a sign of it being heavily rushed.

    • BIG Franky

well, in fairness, we have zero idea what hazards/stage dynamics will occur judging from these still shots. no clue.

    • crocodileman94

would you be able to figure out the hazards of ANY stage by just looking at a single picture?

      • Jon

depending on the stage yes, example. If I never played any Smash, if I looked at Big Blue, I’d know that the road would be a danger and that it is probably the cycle of 30 or so F-zero cars off and on the screen. But see, here is where I get concerned, look at every stage they have shown, they are simple platforms. no rocks, no iceberg, no fighting in a city, racetracks, building, islands, Castles or whatever. It is just platform that you would see in the typical battlefield stages. This is why I am getting a little worried. They are not showing the creativity that was in the last games

  • Josiah Parsons

    Wow! the HD is Gorgeous!

  • MTGSWE

    Just amazing. :D:D

  • BIG Franky

i gotta say…. judging by the number/quality of the teases…. i think this game is coming sooner rather than later. i am hoping that Nintendo is in a position to have a solid release date announced in late 2013 nintendo direct (Nov/Dec) as to generate interest from people that are waiting on this game to buy a wii u maybe will use the Christmas season as an excuse to make the leap….. if there is an announcement of maybe a late January 2014 or early Feb 2014 release date announced during the DK or SMW3D nintendo direct i think that will help sales….
also really hoping for a Little Mac appearance in SSB!!!

    • Vile-Okami

It’s not really teases. They’re doing the same thing they did with the Smash Dojo for Brawl, updating the website with a new pic or item every weekday.

    • Eli

I wish and hope that you are right about a Feb 2014 release. However, as a lifelong Nintendo fan, I’m quite familiar with how they do things. If they say something is a “planned 2014 release,” you should go ahead and expect a mid-late 2015 release to protect your fragile little heart. Nintendo has the greatest games out of any company, but “delay” and “Nintendo” go pretty much hand in hand.

  • great deku tree

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!! RESIZING HIM WAS OKAY BECAUSE HE IS LIKE A HUMAN (all caps FTW)!

          • RockieOllie

Cut the BS no double standards!

What about Pikachu and Charizard? Pikachu isn’t that big compared to charizard in the games/anime

          • Mark

Dude, I was joking for most of the time. Anyways, it’s pretty much confirmed that Ridley is a stage hazard. I know it’s sad, but it is what it is.

          • RockieOllie

            Oh….Awkward LOL
I’m pretty sure he’s a stage hazard as well,
I just don’t want people running around saying he was a stage hazard because he was too big to be a character.

        • jay

I AGREE. I was a little bit disappointed about him, mainly because it ruins the Pikmin story. But most people didn’t even know who he was to care.

          • Kriskura

Well, it didn’t ruined anything for me, since Smash Bros is supposed to be a cross-over/spin-off which have nothing to do with the main games… It’s just made for fun and reunite Nintendo’s main characters in a sympathetic battle game, you don’t have to take it that seriously. I was justly glad that the producers thought that Pikmin was enough recognized to include Olimar as the emblematic character of this series. If the producers were thinking this seriously, in the end, there wouldn’t have any cross-over games at all in video-game history.

      • Zorpixy

        That’s what SHE said! :D

      • Clely

        That’s what she said.

    • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

He’s basically confirmed as a stage element for this stage though

      • Zorpixy

        O_o Hello there.

        • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

          Hi?

    • Mochlum

I know, it is criminal that one of Nintendo’s biggest IPs only has one rep.

    • jay

Resizing him doesn’t make you right

      • RockieOllie

Um Hello? Sakurai resizes Ridley within Brawl.
Compare Ridley’s head to Samus’ body in both pictures.

I’m not saying Ridley can’t be a stage hazard, but if he is. his size has nothing to do with it. It would be due to other reasons like him not adding variety to the roster.

        • jay

DUDE!! He’s still freakin gigantic in that pic. Samus is the size of his head!!

          • RockieOllie

The point was to show his size is inconsistent in smash. Everyone’s size is inconsistent, so Ridley being too big, Pikachu being the size of Charizard’s stomach, olimar being the same size as Kirby, anything goes in Smash.

      • SuperNardful

Notice in Prime, Prime 3, and Other M, Samus barely has to look up to make eye contact with Ridley. Is that too big?

    • Shadao

He actually fits here perfectly. O_O
      Want!!!

    metroid stage

  • Joyous Killer

Who would of thought the Ridley Battle From Other M Would be a stage?

  • companyoflosers

the stage doesnt look particularly creative. its just a metroid skinned giant platform with two small floating platforms to each side. the etroid stage from melee was cool. you could break the stage and it would rotate and there was a giant monster in the background trying to kill you. that and the lava level would rise and fall. THAT was creative. when will we get more stages like that? zelda stages are usually creative with the exception of eldin bridge which does have SOME stuff going on. it blows up and a big monster rides across ever now and then and thats the least creative of the zelda maps. do metroid some justice. do ALL you stages some justice. enough with the generic stages unless they are meant to be like that like final destination.

    • discuss

I want to fight my opponents, not the background.

      • Vile-Okami

That’s what Final Destination and Battlefield are for.

      • companyoflosers

still no excuse for lack of creativity. if fighting the background is an issue for alot of people, they could always just make it not interact with players and just look nice. sorry to hear about your lack of performance though. i usually have no problem multitasking.

        • discuss

Making a kill yourself is way more satisfying that someone “falling” of the map because the platform moved away.
I shall throw in a random insult like you did: If you don’t agree with me you aren’t a true SSB fan.

          • companyoflosers

moving platforms aren’t the kind of creativity i was talking about nobody is gonna go “whoa man, that platformed moved! did you see that?! some crazy shit up in here!”. no i mean levels that arent just straight up skinned platforms. maybe something asymmetrical like hyrule temple from melee. that was a good stage, why cant we have more of that? besides, you think in a real (game) fight if an opponent wants to win badly enough, they wont utilize their surroundings to do it? thats a skill in itself! you think if in the world smash bros tournament if somebody falls off the metroid stage in melee because the other player cut part of the stage that was holding the rest together and loses they are gonna say “well he didnt really win, he used the stage to his advanage, guess we gotta go again!” No! it was a fair move and an interesting idea by the developers to spice up gameplay. the developers would dissagree with you so i guess the people who MADE THE GAME arent true smash bros fans by your logic.

Hyrule temple from melee is a skinned platform.
The metroid stage in melee was a player triggered effect so that’s ok.

I’m talking about crap maps like “Big blue” or all the Ice Climber levels.

          • companyoflosers

okay well if hyrule temple is a skinned platform, at least its a very good one. theres multiple areas to fight, and it is really big. not just some flat inexplicably floating piece of metal with two inexplicably floating small platforms off to each side. made to look like its from a metroid game. at least vary up the fighting area a bit. make me excited about it aside from the fact its a metroid level. take away the metroid theme for a second and what are you left with? this is what i mean! add a player triggered effect again! make the stage asymmetrical, vary up the elevation of some of the fighting areas, just dont for the love of god give me another generic hunk of flat metal thats just there. by the way im with you on the moving levels, big blue and rainbow cruise were levels i NEVER wanted to play on. if i hit random and end up on one of those, id stop the game, go back to character selection and deal with the clusterfuck of everyone re picking their character just to not have to play those.

    • Vile-Okami

This looks like the place where you fight Ridley in Other M. Maybe he’ll show up as his evolving forms, running around like a little chicken to start, coming back as his lizard looking form, then finally flying around in his usual form.

    • majora :D

can you show me the gameplay video you saw of this stage? because as long as i know it JUST A FUCKING IMAGE YOU DUMB FUCK

      • companyoflosers

never said i saw a video of it. just look at it though, its literally final destination with an extra platform on each side skinned to look like metroid. im commenting on what we can observe from this image. id be happy to be wrong if there is something special about it when its being played but youd think theyd want to highlight that if they want to generate hype but they arent so i can infer that this is the gist of what happens on the stage and what it looks like. again, not very creative. a small symmetrical stage that doesnt really scream creativity to me. just my opinion.

      • Xavier Lopez Chabelo

Wow wow, chill out Majora LOL

  • William Short

From the way this look, its looks like the Wii u “IS” next gen material. Please Nintendo make this game the best out the series. Oh and get to work on metroid HD please

  • The_fuzz_buzz

My favorite stage? Oh, the HD one.

  • Moreck

They should release a “Director’s cut” of Other M in which all cutscenes are redone. No more whiny brat Samus!

    • Jon

      THE BABY!

      lol

    • NkoSekirei

wat about a stage that shows mother brain arising from the background in her monstrous form trying to claw u and shoot her massive energy beam at u from her eye

    • tronic307

      The gameplay, itself wasn’t half-bad.

      • Moreck

I loved the gameplay! It was an absolute blast.

        • Jacob D. Taylor

I agree…the gameplay at about one quarter of the way through was not half bad at all. I really liked the Metroid Fusion references as well. The story was so appalling though that nothing makes up for its’ blatant destruction of the Metroid universe

    • MetroidZero

      “Whiny, brat Samus.”

Am I the only one on God’s green earth that thinks they portrayed Samus correctly in this game: as a human? Holy hell…getting tired of this argument lol.

      • Sealed by the Holy Spirit

Is Metroid Other M actually a good game? I skipped that one…

        • MetroidZero

          Yes, it is very good!

      • Tails the Foxhound

You can be a human (and a woman) without hanging on the commands of a horrible father figure man and turning into a mewling child upon seeing an enemy you’ve killed SEVEN FUCKING TIMES already.

  • MetroidZero

    CHOO-CHOO!

    Chuga-chuga-chuga!!!

    ALL ABOARD!

      THE HYPE TRAIN!

  • CEObrainz

Looks very nice, I’m playing through the Metroid Trilogy right now…..

    • tronic307

I’m doing the same, but simultaneously, switching between games after every save.

  • CleanerTax
  • devmiles

speculating over what would be the best stagedesign yet….sigh… just deliver the game already nintendo, aside with all the other games that you should have delivered already.. my wii-u is gathering dust.. and no, i don’t need shitty VC titles either

  • gmanextreme9

YESSSSSS, finally a Metroid stage! It may be the Geothermal Power Plant from Metroid Other M, but hey It looks epic so that’s a plus. Also, Ridley is probably NOT going to be in Smash Bros, but he will probably be in this stage swooping down at people and hurting them.

  • giesenkid

this looks alot like the metroid stage from dead or alive dimensions
maybe ridley will make an appearance here too

  • Donnie Oliver

People need to stop saying ridley is too big for smash bros! Does no one remember the opening to melee? Ridley didn’t seem too big there

  • Malcolm Windomjr

    Firey stage that is

  • RandroidRampage

What really want is a third person Mario platformer. That would be awesome!

  • Yoshi

Please tell me Imma be in dis, cus i cant wait to lick and swallow people…. and then birth them

  • Kevin Wickham

and the next thing we know that ridley (character size) will be confirmed as a playable character

  • Shaise

The Garden of Hope Pikmin stage looks very nice!

  • Christopher Acuna

    METROID!

  • Darkius123

Okay… So you guys are telling me Ridley would go from making an appearance as a boss in Brawl, to being downgraded into insignificance, by appearing as a stage hazard? I don’t think so. Ridley was highly requested as a playable character in Brawl. Sakurai let fans choose on who should be playable by using a poll, and it was between Ridley and King Dedede. Dedede won over Ridley, and obviously is in the game, but Sakurai still satisfied fans by including him in as a boss. Although the fans who didn’t get to see Ridley as a playable character, I’m sure they were still satisfied by the fact that Sakurai was fair and allowed him to be in the game as a trophy and a boss. Also, Sakurai could have chose from many other stages in Metroid M that have stage hazards, and I’m pretty sure he didn’t choose the stage from Ridley’s encounter just for a stage hazard. I know Ridley’s encounter was a significant part of the game, and could easily be used as a stage hazard, but the stage where you fight the final boss ( Queen Metroid) in Metroid M, to me, was more significant than Ridley’s encounter, if it were to be used as a stage hazard. Or even any other boss in Metroid M in the different sectors could be used as stages with boss hazards. It only makes sense for Sakurai to upgrade Ridley to a character and not downgrade him into a stage hazard. Also folks, if you think about it, this stage is more of Ridley’s stage and not Samus’. I’m confident Samus will have other stages in the game that represent her( they do not necessarily have to be from Other M). If Ridley is in the game as a playable character, that stage would be perfect to represent him in SSB4. Sakurai is fair for the most part and I don’t think he would be unkind enough to not include Ridley playable.

  • revolution

Really looking forward to playing on this stage!

  • Kmac

    LOL Slackers!
