Citizens of Earth on Kickstarter with Wii U stretch goal, Earthbound-like gameplay

A new Kickstarter from Eden Industries seeks funding for a new RPG with Earthbound-style gameplay.

Citizens-of-Earth-VP-House

Eden industries is a brand new development studio that’s seeking funding for its new title on Kickstarter. The game is called Citizens of Earth and is said to be a modern RPG with an Earthbound-style of gameplay. Currently there is a demo available to play for Windows only, but there are Wii U, 3DS and even PS4 and Vita stretch goals.

The current goal for the Kickstarter is $100k, while the $160k will get you a Wii U port and $170k a 3DS port. Check out the video on the Kickstarter page to see if it’s something you’d be interested in playing on Wii U and if you have a Windows PC, you can download the demo to give it a go. It should be noted that some of the talent in this studio formerly worked on Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon and several other non-Nintendo titles.

    luh dat

The only way RPG or MMORPG work best is allowed chaos simply because it allows every type of player to enjoy his/her experience. Best of luck.

It’s not like Earthbound…it looks more like the devs tried hard to be funny, but failed to make the game itself good…I was actually quite interested in the game, when I first read about it, but everything I saw in terms of actual gameplay let me completely down.

dunno about other people. I won’t buy/back it, simply because it looks like a cheap Mother rip-off.

    • Nathan DeFalco

Why all the random capitalizing? You do realize nobody takes you seriously if they think you’re uneducated or you’re trying to be cute.

      • Baum 「ツリー」

The random capitalization is not my fault though…My browser does it because it thinks some of the words are in german and as you might know (if you learn or speak german), we write nouns with capital letters.

I am totally aware of that, but I’m way too lazy to correct everything ;)

EDIT: ah well…Know what? Changed my mind. I’ll try to correct it from time to time now..

        • Nathan DeFalco

Well, I appreciate the response. It does make more sense to me now. I’m glad you went back and corrected it. It looks a lot better now.

Can we please have Mother 3?

    • Baum 「ツリー」

IF we get it it’ll be on 3DS since we don’t (yet?) have GBA VC on Wii U

*also Mother 3 wasn’t that good…I liked the Story as a whole, but it’s been really tedious in comparison to Mother or Earthbound :/)

      • Madmagican

…wait, tedious? That’s your reason for it not being as good?
Sure, there’s more grinding and stuff to do but the gameplay as a whole was better than the other Mother games (chain hits, running, more interactive areas, etc.) and because of that I really didn’t mind doing everything the game had to offer
I realize it’s your opinion but to say it’s not as good as Earthbound or Mother just sounds wrong to me

        • Baum 「ツリー」

It annoyed me, that you’ve got to explore the same 3 or 4 areas like 3 times, before the time skip. After that it got better, but then the grinding started…I’m a huge fan of the MonHan series, but even I thought it was too much. I wouldn’t have played through the last two chapters if I didn’t want to know how the story goes on.

I’m glad you’re not one of those naggers, that’s start insulting me for my opinion and (of course) I also accept yours, but I liked Earthbound WAY more ;)

          • Madmagican

Fair enough, I’m the guy who enjoys the sailing in Wind Waker, the backtracking in the Metroid games, and the grinding in difficult RPGs; I like to take my time through games but I realize that not everyone shares that opinion (that’s why there’s FPS and platformers

      • Keyser

I actually think we would more likely see it on Wii U, partly because Earthbound was so well received, but also to attract more people to the Wii U. (Nintendo also said gba games are coming soon, though I guess that could mean anything! And just sayin, Mother 3 would be an epic way to launch the GBA games on the Wii U, not that they’d do it, but who knows :) )

    • Daniel Gonzalez

      Or a Mother compilation.

      • Keyser

        Even better!!! :)

        goood… sometimes you say things….

        • Daniel Gonzalez

          Say things what?

  • Landesca

I think the character art style is hideous. I wouldn’t buy this game.

    • IBlock

      -_-

    • Gregg

The art has no impact on the gameplay. A 1 dimensional way to judge a game…

      • Landesca

It might not having impact on gameplay but visuals do have in impact on enjoyment of a game, if they didn’t we’d still be looking at 2D blocks instead of where we have gone graphically.

I decided not to back any more kickstarters who use name-dropping of other games/game franchises to explain what their game is about.

I’d like indies to come up with original ideas that the big studios won’t try anymore due to their games needing 5 mil. in sales to become profitable – not copy/pasting other games to ensure succesful kickstarters by exploiting a nostalgic fanbase…

  • Daniel Gonzalez

    Too much like Earthbound. Next.

  • Ryan Vandendyck

Hey folks I’m Ryan, the creator of Citizens of Earth. Thanks for checking out the game! If you have any questions, let me know and I’d be thrilled to answer them.

And remember, we have a demo on the Kickstarter page, so check it out if you want to get hands-on with the game.

People are making a fan made Mother 4, this didn’t really need to exist
