Deus Ex: Director’s Cut GamePad features ported to other platforms

Deus_Ex__Human_Revolution_Director_s_Cut_13638010419713

Earlier this year, Square Enix announced that it was bringing the critically acclaimed Deus Ex: Human Revolution to Wii U in the form of a Director’s Cut, which would see overhauled boss battles and controls exclusive to the Wii U version of the GamePad. Now it looks like that isn’t the case any longer, as those exclusive controls for the Wii U version will be ported to other systems via the PlayStation Vita for the PS3 version, and Xbox Smartglass for the 360 and PC versions of the game.

This makes the Wii U version no longer exclusive in any features, which means many people who played the game previously will likely play it again on their platform of choice if they choose to play through this new version of the game. What do you think of Square Enix’s decision to port the controls to other platforms? Let us know in the comments below.

  • Shota

serious? they have to copy nintendo again?

    • Nintedward

Smartglass and Vita are awful at replicating Wiiu gamepad. PERIOD.

Wiiu is seemless screen built into the controler and has pretty much no latency. Nuff said.

      • Shaise

Will someone help me sue stupid Sony & Microsoft, they’ve gone too bloody far! Really Nintendo needs to sue them right now!!!! Forgot that replica of a gamepad! Or that metroid movie, sue these two idiots!

        • Marcus Navarro

It would be a pipe dream.

  • Chris Aita

    Ugh…

  • DeedsGaming .

    lol, predictable

  • Landonus

    Why am I not surprised?

    • Ducked

Its funny, I no longer have to buy this game :)

      • Marcel Pérez

Only like 5 people will use the Vita combo and like 2 will use the smartglass feature, and probably those 2 their dads work at Microsoft.

Buy it if you wanted to play the game… buy it, regardless of the situations the game passed through to get to the hands of YOU the Wii U owner.

Don’t get mad with Square Enix (entirely).
It’s (mostly) Nintendo’s fault that developers are being like this due to the horrible release of the Nintendo Wii U back in 12′ . The reason I didn’t rush out to buy a Wii U, and I’ll probably pick up the NSMBU bundle or the WWHD bundle or a used Wii U to save cash.

        • Ducked

I’m not buying it at all, I’d only buy it to support Wii U, but now I could careless. Sqaure has been a butt of a company the past 5 years.

          • Marcel Pérez

            Exactly.

We as consumers aren’t suppose to buy the games just because we want to support Wii U in it’s trouble, were suppose to buy it if we want that game and you like it.

Anywho, I never got interested in this title regardless when I saw it a few years back as a PS3 title and neither now.

Squeenix sucks now anyways except for a few IP’s and releases

          • Untrentide

Personally i find it good to hear that other systems will the same capabilities. It shows once again that Nintendo is ahead of the curve. Also, i’m constantly see “I will not be buying this” on almost every game page on this site and i feel this will affect the Wii U a lot harder than the game developers. I just feel that spite won’t help this system grow. Try writing to the developers about your disappoint.

          • Ducked

The only point of me buying the game is for them showing support to the Wii U. Square Enix is to consumed with graphics, and power. While Sony and Microsoft get Final Fantasy XV, and Kingdom Hearts III, we get a port of a last gen game. No need for anyone to support that.

        • Lethal_Doze

5? thats around the number it will sell on Wii U

          • Marcel Pérez

When the Wii U was announced I hope it to be like an exclusives console with IP from different developers (Like an exclusive KH for Wii U ect.)

sadly it did not, completely that is. (Bayonetta,Sonic,X)

    • kevin nun—-

I like how when Square Enix were asked why was the Director’s Cut not on other platforms back when it was a Wii U exclusive they said, “That’s not how Square Enix does things.” Couple of weeks later, BAM, ports. lol

    • Andreas Sunde

You’re likely not surprised because this has been known since E3.

      • Martijn Plasmans

Haha, exactly. This was news 3 months ago.

  • Wren Justin Umlauf

Honestly, I dont think Ill be even buying this anymore… I was so excited to get this that I actually stopped playing my xbox version so I could play this. Now it’s been so long since they announced it that I’ve lost interest. Plus releasing it on the other consoles was a big slap in the face to Nintendo. There were tons of fans that were going to buy a Wii U just for this game, but not anymore…

    • Marcus Navarro

Don’t prove them right, you bastard!

      • Wren Justin Umlauf

I already own a Wii U. I’ve had it since last December and I love it and play it almost every day. Every game I’ve played on my Wii U is better/more fun than the other versions I’ve played. COD, Assassins Creed, Splinter Cell… etc. I just cant decide if I want to support the developers on this one…

        • Marcus Navarro

Just do it so that you can laugh at the idiot Xbots dumb enough to *try* to use Smartglass.

    • jeffp3456

Agree completely. Sadly, for those of us who purchased a Wii U, it seems dead in the water.

  • Jon Turner

This isn’t good at all, either for Square-Enix OR WiiU. I thought S-E would have sense to make this the definitive version, but now it looks like they’re just trying to make it equal on all other platforms. I hope they don’t have high expectations for this.

I’ll still purchase it to hold onto my order, but this is a really bad move for everyone involved.

    • jrob23

it will still be the definitive version. That is…it should be better graphically but the way some devs have been ‘utilizing’ the Wii U it may not be. But even if it isn’t better looking the gamepad use is the best version. Still no sale for me till it’s in the bargain bin.

  • Sdudyoy

What a smart move, announce a port then ruin that port by making it’s exclusive content not exclusive and therefore giving no one a reason to buy that version and then complaining about it not selling well! -Sarcasm-

    • jeffp3456

this would be true if they had released it ! But as of today it is still vaporware!
      With no official release date.

  • Marcus Navarro

“Allow me to make controls that were exclusive to a console built around them available for a handheld that’s lacking in value, because Sony’s warehouses are full of them, and tablets, because playing on a 1/16″ piece of metal/plastic and glass is far more comfortable and better than a controller! Xbox Smartglass sounds like Yolo McSwaggins to us and we wish to support that!” ~Square Enix

Edit: Seriously, people. You guys are acting like draining $200 to play the game with a Vita is better and playing it on Xbox Smartglass is a smart idea.

    • Nintedward

How are you supposed to use a tablet and a 360 controller at the same time. Wiiu is genius because it’s a tablet and a controller combined. Juggling two separate devices just seems stupid..

Would of been better if it remained a Wiiu exclusive where they promised to take advantage of Wiiu’s extra shaders and memory and make great use of the Gamepad controller. On PS3 and 360 you’re getting a clowned version of the originally intended Wiiu version *sigh*

      • Majora’s Mask

        wouldnt be the first time

      • Wayne Beck

Square-Enix hasn’t made a good decision since it became Square-Enix.

        • Marcus Navarro

          Except for Kingdom Hearts.

          • Jon

Didn’t Kingdom Hearts come out when before Square merged with Enix to make Square-Enix?

          • Marcus Navarro

I believe they were already merged. Didn’t they put out a FF or two after they merged?

          • Jon

well, after some research, the first Kingdom hearts was created by Square before they merged and yes, they did do a few FF but they were not nearly as good as the ones that square did. Since Square Enix, The FF series has been going downhill. I am sure most people will agree with that. 12 wasn’t too bad, 13….ug, there was good yet some pretty bad parts, 14….an awful MMO however might be saved with the re-release of it. FFXV, I don’t know, it looks like it could be epic or just…. bad so I’ll have to wait and see about that one.

          • Assassinated23

            Don’t forget XIII 2 and 3.

          • Dodge2461x

            No. My box says Squaresoft.

      • Veries Seals

I honestly don’t think that smart glass nor vita will still be able to produce the same experience and the game pad. Nor do i think there is many users that will actually use the features. I would not worry about it.

        • Nintedward

Precisely… Not only are Vita and Smartglass inferior options, nobody is going to use them… (At least for Deus EX HRDC on PS360 that is)

          • Veries Seals

Agreed! I dont think they will use them much on the XBOXone nor the PS4 either. Very expensive add on just to get the same thing that is part of and a less expensive natural ecosystem on the Wii U.

    • Victor O

      Who dat! 2-0 :)

      • Marcus Navarro

We hunt falcons, raid buccaneers, and skin panthers ’round these parts!

        • Victor O

What a win yesterday. Watched it with a bunch of Who Dats in Austin.

          • Marcus Navarro

There has to come a point where the Saints start blowing fools out. I’m damn near having heart attacks(metaphorically), and we’re not even to Week 5!

          • Victor O

I went from watching that Saints game to watching Breaking Bad with just a few minutes of relief. My heart is worn out today.

Drew has to reduce his underthrowing, avoid throwing short passes to the left or right size of the field (major source of INTs) and stop turning the ball over. But if he can start playing better, we should be blowing fools out with our defense playing so well.

          • Marcus Navarro

Breesus isn’t the problem though. Sean Payton wants to get back to the running game, which is a great idea, but he’s using Mark Ingram to do it. Ingram just sucks, and his carries are becoming wasted plays. If Payton sits Ingram and activates Khiry Robinson, then many Who Dats would be happy little hamsters.

          • Victor O

Ingram needs to be sat. He’s ineffective. But Brees has to reduce turnovers. The great QBs help their teams win, but don’t give up INTs for TDs.

          • Marcus Navarro

A significant # of those INTs are Brees’ fault, but out o-line’s been disappointing. They often force Brees to force throws where he doesn’t want to since the start of the season. It’s a mix of pressure and Brees’ brainfarts. With that being said, relief for the Saints isn’t coming any time soon. For the next 3 weeks, they face 3 teams with good defense(Cards, Miami, Bears).

          • Victor O

We can beat the Cards and Dolphins. Not sure about the Bears. They are just a bad matchup for us.

          • Victor O

Just to help you relive yesterday: http://vimeo.com/74594910

  • TULFich

Dudes, you actually need to fucking buy external shit to play it as the Wii U´s version, wich is totally ilogical to pay 200-300 extra bucks to get kind of the same exp on other platforms.

    • Shota

which most of the people have these days (smartglass for smartphones)

      • TULFich

I´ve never seen someone using smartglass…..and not every person has a PS Vita to play like it. As even I have a tablet and smarphone, I wouldn´t even bother to play with them on a 360 ver. Cuz I rather play with the Wii U gamepad, wich is way better comfortable than those gadgets

        • MujuraNoKamen

Yep. And with smartglass, you have to use a tablet and a XBox controller don’t you? who’s gonna prefer switching between 2 separate devices when you can get out of the box functionality with Wii U – with a bigger screen, more comfortable controller and Off-TV play)

          • TULFich

finally, someone who gets the point!

        • Shota

          spoken like a true gamer

    • Sdudyoy

This is true but most people already own a tablet in some sort, but It’s more of the fact that they promised something that there not keeping.

  • D Moness

well most ps3 gamers do not have a vita. Smartglass might be used a bit more but I am not afraid of those as competition.

  • Andreas Sunde

I knew you guys were slow, but really? This was announced at E3…

    • Andreas Sunde

Or it may have been before E3, it’s so long ago I can’t remember properly.

      • Victor O

At E3, they announced they’d be making it. They didn’t announce that it would have all of the same GamePad features.

        • Andreas Sunde

They did, I remember them stating it would be done with Vita and SmartGlass. I also remember being quite annoyed about that.

  • http://www.mpt-online.eu/ Sylux

Well we don’t need to buy a WiiU for exclusive stuff like this, proven once again -.- Because exclusive for Wiiu means it’ll be exclusive during production but the closer the launch get’s (or after) it’ll be ported anyways. What is the meaning of exclusive? First Party titles? Every other “exclusive” means nothing anymore. And if a third party game really does obtain exclusive stuff WiiU owners are screwed again because they only get half/broken games anyway. Seriously N start to step up now I’m considering more and more NOT to get a wiiu at all as it becomes to see more and more as wasted money.
Everything on WiiU (exlusive or not) get’s ported over anyway… I’m getting seriously pissed more and more.

    • Arthur Jarret
      • jrob23

exactly. Basically the publishers blow smoke up our ass then turn around and make it multiplatform. I don’t care if Rayman was exclusive, just don’t get my hopes up, delay it for b.s. reasons then make it multiplatform. I would have purchased day one in September if they hadn’t pulled rug out from under us. Oh well. The Wii U doesn’t need to beg and pay for games. If 3rd party devs make a good game and puts it on the Wii U it will sell. Minus the b.s. broken promises and half assed ports mind you. If Watchdogs comes out on the Wii U and isn’t lacking in any features but also has great gamepad use…people will buy it. Good luck with that though

      • http://www.mpt-online.eu/ Sylux

Thanks for that link, it does explain some stuff indeed, I must have missed that article couldn’t remember I read it, so I assume I must have missed it.

        • Arthur Jarret

No problem. The article is very old, pre-release, from this sites early days – so that might explain why you missed it.

It does explain why companies flipflop on exclusives. On one hand, they’d like to optimize it for the wii u, both graphically and making use of the controls – on the other hand, they want to make enough money to warrant making the game.

At least nintendo has now started to fund, market & publish games of other developers… it’s a start – leading to Monster hunter, Key atlus titles, Sonic, Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta appearing exclusively on nintendo platforms. They didn’t even do that on previous generations (well, they helped with marketing and did localize some games, mainly in europe… but they never really published)

    • https://twitter.com/Onyzora Ony

Sylux is pissed ’cause there is no Metroid announced for Wii U *wink wink*

      • http://www.mpt-online.eu/ Sylux

If one was announced I wouldn’t get a role in it anyway I would probably end up like Wario and get some crappy minigames disc with 101 minigames on how to hunt the hunter ;)

        • https://twitter.com/Onyzora Ony

          ^ this
          is sad :(

          • http://www.mpt-online.eu/ Sylux

(person behind the avatar speaking) It’s a shame indeed that a Metroid has not been announced for WiiU, but I understand the decision on that, there is only so much on a fanbase for the Metroid Franshise (majority NA and Europe) while the fanbase for Donkey Kong is so much bigger and therefore Donkey Kong is the more plausible choice from both Nintendo and Retro.

But I also honestly did not expect Donkey Kong, I expected Metroid more then Donkey Kong but the most I expected Starfox or the “Frozen IP” from Retro as their “secret project” they’ve been working on since 2010 or so (which has been frozen since 2000-2001 when they where told to only work on Metroid Prime at the time)

          • https://twitter.com/Onyzora Ony

I really hope Retro is on a Metroid (brand new, Prime 4 whatever), but if Nintendo choose not to continue the FPA game style, I’ll be a bit disappointed. Ultra more disappointed if it’s a Other M² D:

And for the DK stuff: firstly I was really angry, but now I’m more of a “meh”. After all, now that Retro handle the HD and the Wii U, they can make a better Metroid than if it was done this year.

          • http://www.mpt-online.eu/ Sylux

I was kinda pleasantly surprised with Donkey Kong I like the DKC series :) A new Metroid would be awesone and the extra experience they gained from dkc:tf will only work to the advantage indeed. Whether it’ll be fpa 3rd person or something new alltogether would be great (I would settle for a 2.5D perspective personally much like the morph ball mazes in the prime series would be sweetness)
But yes please no more Other M2 or something, I like the gameplay though but far less intrigued by the lack of music (metroid style which always was top notch in every installment, except Other M) and the FF cutscenes in Other:M, cool feature but blew the game as well imo.

  • Yoshiwhirlwind

Has MadCatz made a smartphone/ tablet holder for the ps3 or 360 controllers yet? I hope this works in wii u’s favor. Developers continue making two screened game versions and among the people who like the extra options they see wii u as the better version because you don’t have to put your controller down to pick up your phone or tablet.

  • MujuraNoKamen

“This makes the Wii U version no longer exclusive in any features, which
means many people who played the game previously will likely play it
again on their platform of choice” hardly, few people would spend all that money on a Vita just to get a touch screen like the Gamepad and as for SmartGlass, unless I am mistaken you still have to have a XBox controller as Smartglass is just an app for phones/tablets thus it doesn’t have any buttons. And the Gamepad will have a bigger screen and Off TV play.

  • Arthur Jarret

I’ll definitely play it on my platform of choice!

    the Wii U!

I also don’t own a Vita yet, that might have something to do with it.
And smartglass is just… meh… so far. Especially if people call while you’re playing… you answer the calls you prefer to ignore (and handle on whatsapp later) by accident.

Not to mention the achievement notifications – that’s also on your phone! (ding – on screen immersion breaker, you’ve jumped 250 times!, 10 minutes later: Ding – on-phone immersion breaker, you’ve jumped 250 times achievement added!)

I also don’t own an Xbox, so that might have something to wi… BIAS!

Erm… I’m glad to be able to turn trophy notification off on ps3 now. But will enjoy this game most on Wii U for sure.

  • Kaihaku

Does this mean that the Wii U edition will have the same price as the other versions? If not, Square Enix has done a great job of killing any chance of me buying this game.

    • Victor O

      Exactly!

    • Shaise

Yeah! You know what!!!!!!!! Sony & Microsoft DIE OUT! I’m sorry, I actually was easing my tensions BUT NOW THEY’RE PISSING ME OFF, they’re copying too much, it needs to stop, Nintendo needs to sue them of every penny they’ve got! I’d love to see what Hiroshi Yamauchi has to say about this!

      • Marcus Navarro

Nintendo can’t sue for patent infringement. Nevertheless, why are you so upset at the lack of creativity on their parts now? Sony hasn’t had a single creative or original thought since the PSP and MS’s an umbrella corporation that stuck its big toe in the pisswaters of gaming.

  • RedChu

This doesn’t bother me at all. People will buy it on whichever platform they wish to play it on regardless of controls, and I doubt that most Wii U gamers will choose to purchase it for 360/PS3/PC if they intend to use the gamepad features. Players who do not wish to play using the gamepad will likely purchase it on another platform, and players who want to play it with gamepad features but do not own a Wii U and do not wish to purchase one can play it on whatever platform they prefer using the completely optional tablet accessory for that platform.

  • SonicLucario

Are developers trying to hurt the WiiU?

    • Leo

      BINGO! ;)

  • steve

anything that makes dual screen gaming more mainstream is a good thing.. wii u or not

  • Petri

    Aaaand still no release date.

Starting to wonder if this is even worth the wait…

I dont care about the phony Wii U experience on other platforms.
    I just want the game.

  • jrob23

Will not buy games from idiotic publishers that lie to us consumers. Actually, will not buy day one. For instance, I will eventually buy Rayman Legends when it is under $20. It might take awhile but there are other games to play and Ubi needs to learn its lesson. I don’t think Deus Ex is going to sell at all now. This is the nail in the Wii U versions coffin. It’s an old port anyway. These companies are stupid

  • bizzy gie

So I’ll have to put down the controller the pick up Vita/Tablet (or smartphone) then put down Vita/Tablet (or smartphone) and pick the controller back up again?

Or have it all in one device?

    Hmmmmm…

    Hard choice.

    • Clel

Yeah, I’m just gonna get it on the Gameboy.

  • Mark Nie

    Congratulations, you just lost sales.

  • david jarman

I’m going to buy this game, but I will be flipping off square-enix throughout the whole process.

  • Logan Waltz

vita is such an irrelevant device, it’s not even funny. and just like somebody else said, juggling two devices just to play a game? Exclusive: definition: they’ll make a bastard version later on for every other system just because.

  • Truthteller

It should also be noted that GTA V get’s a perfect score of 10! It should also be noted that the Wii U does not get this game.

    • aldo2410

Who give GTA V that score, IGNorance? or any other of those fanboy sites you visit.

      • Truthteller

I take it id they would have given 101 a ten, they would be great?

        • Marcus Navarro

You’re pretty bad at being snarky. Maybe snide, but not snarky.

        • david jarman

They gave a game with glitches, pop up texture and people complaining when they drive fast they end up in buildings as a pop up glitch a ten? Why? Because it didnt effect their experience it didn’t matter? Yet it effected the scores for other games? Come on!
Is it a great game? Yes, it’s fun. Was it perfect hell no and it did not add more to the series then what other franchise add to their series.
I know fun is what matters most, but they need to treat reviews more equal and have a set grid that says + or – minus and no grey area. Cause that area should be where the cst decides if it seems fun or not, or if the story is good or not.
Give us the synopsis of the game, then mark what works and doesn’t work in the game. Give an opinion if you liked it or not, but do not let the opinion be deciding factor of the score. Let the + and – be the judge. What’s funny when you have games that they didnt like that much like ign will say that this is the way they reviewed the game. “I wanted to love it, but those little issues held me back” and then all of sudden you have this perfect score on a buggy game where they are all like, “It didn’t effect my overall experience”

        • aldo2410

No, being impartial would be great for any game review.

    • Marcus Navarro

Do not collect $200. Go to jail.

    • Jon

lol, is GTA the only game you play? it seems to be the only game you ever talk about on your initial posts and even when other games come up, you some how get back to GTA

    • Nintedward

Oh no what are the hardcore Nintendo fans like myself going to do :O ? Because it’s not on Wiiu there is NO way I can ever play GTAV :(

Oh wait, I’m about to go and pick up GTAV at a midnight launch in hour for 360… silly troll. How are Sony and Microsoft fanboys going to play Smash bros, Mario Kart , DKTF , X , Bayonetta 2, Yoshi yarn, 3D world, Sonic lost world etc ? they have to buy a Wiiu. lol

      • Daniel Gonzalez

Well to be fair, I don’t think Microsoft and Sony fanboys care about those games you listed. Lol. There’s a lot of third party games to choose from.

It sucks that the Wii U isn’t getting it, but a universal gamer like myself will just pick it up for ps3 or 360. Most of the games you mentioned I’m not interested in with the exception of Smash Bros and Mario Kart.

        • Nintedward

I think you would be suprised by the amount of Xbox and Sony fanboys that want to play those games. Smash bros and Mario kart are on a similar level of desirability as GTAV fir example.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Be as it may. Right now, GTA is the highly anticipated game. It’s not to say that Mario Kart and Smash Bros aren’t, but GTA has a larger appeal to gamers. Of course, I’m talking about gamers 17 and over and of course some younger gamers who want to grow up so fast. Mario Kart and Smash are in a different market. With all this said, I don’t think it really matters who wants what game. We’ll all get our hands on the games we prefer to play soon.

        • david jarman

Actually there is quite a few sonybox fan boys who want nintendo to stop making hardware and put their games on other consoles. Plus, there’s this whole outrage about bayonetta 2 being a nintendo exclusive and a lot of ps3 owners think X should be on all consoles.

          Ps.
Here’s a friendly warning from the developers:
If you have an Xbox do not install play cause it slows down the game quite a bit! Yeah! 10/10!

        • Jon

I know quite a few people that are Fans of Sony or microsoft and love Mario Kart or Smash but they also tend to buy their system and a Nintendo system for the other games they like from Nintendo.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

            Basically how I roll.

    • Shadao

Really? Using scores to say you’re right? I saw a review that gave a 3.5 out of 5 for GTA V. Would that be considered a fact?

    • Petri

And that in no way can be paid bias review?
Of course not, only Nintendo pays for people to write bias BS in to internet.

  • Zuxs13

Can’t buy it for any device if they dont put the damn game out!

  • JuleyJules

This might be a good thing as gamers will realize its easier to use the game pad which comes with wii u rather that buying other devices to replicate similar controls. Having to pick up and put down controllers, systems and phones/tablets will quickly become a huge pain in the ass and waste of time. I can’t see that continuing as it will with wii u.

  • Victor O

It’s a foolish decision by Square Enix to re-release this game for the other systems and if they charge more for the Wii U version and make it the same as the others, then it will only weaken Wii U sales.

It’s frustrated when game developers keep going with low-cost retreads to milk profits.

    • Truthteller

You mean like Wind Walker, 3D Mario, Super Mario, etc.?

      • Victor O

WindWaker by most accounts seem to be a significantly improved game both in graphics, audio, and gameplay. But yes, it’s still a retread. NSMB Wii U did add Boost Mode and better visuals, but is largely a retread. 3D Mario was on a portable system, correct? I think the audience there is enough of a difference.

  • Unit_DTH

If they ever even announce a release date and price for this! These features will be lacking on 360 as you will have to juggle a controller and a “smart device” to use these features. The PS3 and Vita offerings could be more similar to the Wii U’s, but will most likely still suffer issues of latency and other things, like the fact that the Vita is barely even in use by most gamers, let alone a monetarily sound investment right now. I hope they actually make this game, or rather release this revamped version in the not too distant future, but as it sits now this game is a phantom! I would like to buy and play it on my Wii U, but it isn’t getting much closer to a physical release and they seem to be continuing the tradition of killing it’s exclusivity for Nintendo’s platform. Prediction: Next update about this title will be pertaining to it not even being released for the Wii U!

    • Unit_DTH

Note: I will be purchasing this title for my Wii U, if the price is the same as on the other consoles. But it is no longer near the top of my list as far as priority game purchases go.

    • Nintedward

      Well said.

  • Yen

I don’t mind it being multi-platform, as long as they don’t later say “We’re not developing for the Wii U anymore because of low sales on the Wii U version of the same game.”

    • Fred

except it stinks that they postponed the wii u version

    • Jon

well…… look at their other game series…. none of them are coming to the Wii U. Only this one and with this move… it may yet turn into them not releasing anything for the Wii U.

      • Jon Turner

Perhaps not. There’s still a chance for KH3. S-E, to be fair, hasn’t ruled it out yet.

  • Guest

Take in to consideration that 95% of the people who will buy this game won’t have access to Smartglass or Vita, then add in the fact that both said systems don’t have great sales and you have Square Enix’s weird attempt at extending Wii U’s features to other version of the game.

  • Josiah Parsons

Who even uses Vita+PS3 or SmartGlass?

    • Fred

      about 12 people worldwide

      • Josiah Parsons

No, wait, only 11. one of them just bought a Wii U.

  • Henry Chavez

I wish they would just cancel it! It has been so long since its announcement that any excitement to purchase this has almost worn off, and there is no release date still!!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/ashmadepics Ashley

I had this pre-ordered ages ago back in June. Still no word of a release date. I’d like to see how much the WiiU version will be.

There is an article that the people at Square Enix need to read: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/419527/xbox-smartglass-not-responsive-enough-for-rayman-legends-says-ancel/

Costly mistake to invest something no one will use.

  • Rodger Jamjet

No surprise here. Anyway the vita and smart glass second screen option are so far behind and inferior in everyway compared to the gamepad it’s not even funny. Those two other options from the do called competition have such bad latency.

  • Leo

We all saw this coming. What Square wouldn’t do to please their beloved Sony/M$ anyway?

    • Marcus Navarro

To be fair, the DS/3DS have seen quite a few of Kingdom Hearts games…with only 2 of those being worth a damn, but they’ve supported Nintendo regardless. Now if the Wii U doesn’t see KH3, that would be that bullshit. Port it to the Xbox Done and not the Wii U after all of those KH releases? Bullshit.

      • Jon Turner

They never said they WEREN’T going to port KH3 to WiiU. In fact since that game won’t be around for a while (at least until 2018), anything can happen inbetween. I still think it’s likely we’ll see it on WiiU. KH3 hasn’t even been that much in development.

        • Marcus Navarro

They said that unless the Wii U supports DX11, they won’t port it, even though it was originally to be a PS4 exclusive. MS is the only company that puts out hardware that supports it. PS4 uses OpenGL and Wii U can support Unity scaled-up to a DX11 equivalent. I predict more excuses to avoid the Wii U.

          • Jon Turner

I don’t really think S-E is intentionally trying to screw Nintendo around; they’re a business and they have to make money. They actually didn’t mention WiiU when they initially revealed KH3 either, so they kinda dodged the question. The whole DX11 was really just a hoax started by a GamesTrailers guy who didn’t know what he was talking about. Nonetheless, I stand behind what I said: I think we’ll see KH3 no matter what. They’ll have no choice but to put it on there anyway, after all the XBox port will do poorly and S-E will need to look for other options to recoup their losses. WiiU is a nobrainer, especially since the system is poised to recover this fall.

          • Marcus Navarro

I’m really tired of the “business making money” point. It’s only true by virtue of the reality of the piggybacking capitalist system(well, it’s shittiest in America at least).

    • Daniel Gonzalez

If the Wii U is not selling, why should they? Square Enix is a business, not a charity drive. If there’s no profits to be had, then you won’t see any ports.

  • SleepySkullhead

Way to screw over Nintendo, Square.

    • DWraySweZ

This is nothing.. final fantasy 7 was suppose to be a an N64 exclusive, but they scraped that and made it for Sony instead, Square has an unhealthy tradition screwing Nintendo over.

      • Daniel Gonzalez

Nintendo screwed themselves over actually. They went with Sony because of the media, which was CDs. Nintendo wanted to stick with cartridges, which doesn’t hold enough space of a CD. With that said, Square decided to move on to Sony when Nintendo refused to change their media for the N64. The more you know.

      • Jon

well, that was due to the N64 being cartridges and Square wanted CDs then. So that was kind of a screw up with Nintendo.

        • oontz

exactly… no one to blame for that EXCEPT Nintendo.

      • SleepySkullhead

So many games were supposed to be Wii U exclusive, but became multi console. This is getting annoying.

  • Redek

Can someone please tell why has not Square Enix released this game? Its been a long time since it was announced. I am starting to lose interest on this game When is Square enix is going to release this game for Christmas or what?

    • Jon

Well…. the reason is it is Square Enix and the fact that it is coming to Nintendo…..

  • DWraySweZ

Why let the fact its not exclusive hurt wii u sales. Its still the definitive version.. make it happen for wii u.. screw the competition.

    • starwars360

Yeah I knew but Wii U still have plenty exclusive titles on way!!!

  • The_fuzz_buzz

But the thing is, the Wii U version is seamlessly integrated, the other ones you have to pick up/hold a small tablet and work a controller at the same time. Much, MUCH harder.

    • DWraySweZ

Would vita even be confortable playing a console game?

      • oontz

        quite comfortable actually.

        • DWraySweZ

ok thanks… just wonder as iv been want to buy one.

  • Moreck

The WiiU one will still feature improved visuals and frame rates over the other platforms, plus the GamePad has much lower latency than SG or Vita

  • Marius Valasinas

good thing is that nobody uses vita or smart glass with those systems, so Wii u is remaining the best platform to play the game

  • Sean

im tired of this kind of treatment as a wii u owner. The game is already out for the other systems but it gets delayed so they can get it again at the same time as the wii u. release the game for wii u then work on the damn ports if its so important that the other systems have another version of this game to buy…god damn it

    • Nathaniel Lopez

They could have just gave the original game on the PS3/360 an update, but then they wouldn’t be able to make a quick buck. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if the Wii U version just happens to be missing a game mode or whatever; As that seems to happen quite a bit with these current multi-platform releases.

  • Robert Butters

The features are no longer exclusive to the Wii U, but they will only work well on the Wii U.

    • oontz

you have no evidence to base that on.

      • Doctors Tardis

        Tablets lack buttons.

        • oontz

vita has buttons, triggers, and analog sticks

          • TaintedXGamer

the Vita is a Upgraded Psp 4 with HD, a touch screen and can cross play with ps3 maybe ps4 in the future. also he said “Tablets” Not “Handheld game consoles”, don’t be so smug.
Also the game pad is Already connected/tethered to wii U, so no issues.

          • oontz

Read much? The OP said the features will only work well on the wiiu. This is not the case and he has no evidence of that. Smart glass is not the only other option. The Vita is a very viable option and similar to the gamepad. Also once connected the vita is also tethered to the ps3/ps4. So…

          • TaintedXGamer

fine, you win this round….. :/

          • oontz

It’s not about winning. It’s about using facts to form an educated opinion about something rather than just making assumptions.

      • Robert Butters

Michel Ancel from Ubisoft said of the smartglass “It’s not as responsive as we need”. Will have to wait to see

        • oontz

That has nothing to do with the ps vita though.

  • Theiz Zzee

Ashley King that’s not completely accurate. The Wii U version still has 3 exclusive things. One of them is the gyroscope of the gamepad being used. http://m.joystiq.com/2013/08/21/deus-ex-human-revolution-directors-cut-coming-in-under-60/

    • starwars360

story in website you link it so it is old story that were last month so possible things change now. :)

      • Theiz Zzee

Except all of that that link was the basis for this news. The ports of this game were announced in June. So as it stands now that is not the case. :)

    • oontz

Who cares. The game is almost 2 year old. Anyone who wanted to play it has already done so a long time ago. I own a wiiu and there is no way I am spending my money on a new version of a 2 year old game with very minor differences. I am sure I am not the only one.

      • Theiz Zzee

The system needs all the support it can get so if, someone does get it at least they will know they are getting at least a little more for their money. I understand your side of the equation though. To each their own and I hope those that do purchase it enjoy it.

  • Carlos

This game was ready for the WiiU a longtime ago. It’s beeing delayed just to release at the same time for all the platforms (raymond legends thing).

The WiiU version will be the best, in graphics and controls, and the game has a pré-order price in amazon of 23£, not a expensive game.

However all these delays have damage WiiU sales, and somehow I think this is intentional…

    • NkoSekirei

im not buying this game from square if their pulling the same $hit like the other devs have done

    • Leo

It is becoming more and more evident that all of this is intentional. The gaming industry is clearly forcing Nintendo to give up of the console business because those third parties can’t sustain three consoles anymore and have already chosen their partners many years ago (M$ and Sony). Games became too expensive to make and no significant profit is being made, so this is clearly a move of the industry to shrink the business in order to keep those companies alive. But Nintendo don’t give a shit about the mess those third-party developers have put themselves and will certainly not sacrifice itself for the sake of this bankrupt industry.

      • oontz

“The gaming industry is clearly forcing Nintendo to give up of the console business because those third parties can’t sustain three consoles anymore and have already chosen their partners many years ago (M$ and Sony).”

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA, you’re joking right? Seriously you think and believe this? WOW

        • Leo

Of course i believe this. There is no other reason for it really. The industry is clearly swollen and AAA games are MUCH more expensive to make than 10 years ago. When you have three consoles in the market you inevitably spreads the installbase to multiple systems and this is not good from a business perspective because they can’t reach everyone. The industry simply can’t keep up with three consoles anymore and this has become very obvious in the past few years.

          • oontz

You can blame Nintendo for the lack of 3rd party support. Not some crazy theory about the game industry itself. Nintendo created this animosity between themselves and 3rd parties many generations ago. No one else to blame.

        • audi lover

Actually true in some respects big money was exchanged with EA and mircosoft so they could get a load of crap sports exclusives these versions wont even see release on ps4, your very nieve if you dont think big money changes the business place

          • oontz

What ea sports games won’t release on ps4?

      • Carlos

Nintendo is able to survive only with 1st party software, on the other hand neither PS nor Xbox have that hability…

        • Leo

This exactly why Nintendo simply don’t give a shit about this intentional move of the industry. Nintendo would rather have that support but it will not sacrifice itself in order to benefit this bankrupt industry. That’s why those companies are really pissed, because unless Nintendo give up of its console business, players will keep spreaded on multiple consoles and those companies will not reach a sufficient audience to pay their debts.

  • Daniel Gonzalez

Not surprised by this. I would say at least the game will be on the Wii U. It’s unfortunate that things like this happen.

  • Dez

It is SE does anyone give a damn what they do? I haven’t given a damn about Square since before Hironobu Sakaguchi left which forced the merger with the Enix Corporation into the pile of crap that they are today.

  • Clairvius

Really doesn’t bother me much first off i hardly ever buy re-hashes so the chance of me buying this game was kinda slim already but the chance of me buying a vita or xbox smartglasses are even slimmer come on really how many people that want this game will buy a vita or some doodie glasses to play it no one was going to buy anything for this game let alone a new Wii U people who own the system would probably grab this just because we’re hungry for games but shearing the features will neither help or hurt the sales of a game everyone already beat and for sure won’t affect Wii U sales any they can keep there Deus Ex news and give me something I want I love my Wii U and own every system Nintendo has cut over the years but intill we get a Zelda or a true new Mario and such there not going to sell systems and they wont stop the bad news being posted on these forums get your head out of your ass Nintendo and give people a reason to buy a Wii U its some amazing hardware and much more playable than the ps-vita or the xbox-glasses combo put it to work fuckers

  • Mark

The would still work the best because the gamepad has an extremely low latency. The Vita and especially smartglass are going to have a hard time with lag.

    • oontz

“The Vita and especially smartglass are going to have a hard time with lag.”

Are you one of the engineers working on this tech? Or just talking out your ass without any first hand knowledge?

      • Cyberus

I hate the “you are physically incapable of knowing things unless you were trained I’m the field for years” argument

        • oontz

Unless they engineered the tech, the yeah they are physically incapable of knowing if there will be an issue with lag. The retail version doesn’t exist yet so how could the OP have any knowledge about possible lag?

          • Cyberus

How could I possibly know how he knows? I don’t have a PhD in Mark

          • oontz

You were the one coming down on me with the…

“I hate the “you are physically incapable of knowing things unless you were trained I’m the field for years” argument”

And I stand firm that in this situation the OP is physically incapable of knowing things unless they WERE trained I’m the field for years.

          • Cyberus

Use what the arguer uses against them; it leads to ironic victory

          • oontz

Not ironic victory… it just makes you look like an idiot.

      • Mark

I was being a troll, and evidently I failed at it; none of it was serious. Now, as far as the Vita and smartglass goes, maybe it’ll be fine, but I’m not one to tell since they aren’t out.

  • sd

Its not going to sell that well now. It was supposed to be released a few months ago and would have done better on the WIiU then. But now there are too many other alternatives, so I think sales will be poor.

  • ICHI

Vita play should be good for those that have it but smartglass looks like a bit of a pain to me, I can imagine some Xbox players will try it and then not bother again. I think square enix wanted to charge too much for the game on older platforms, so needed something more than just redone boss battles to justify not updating the original game via dlc

  • Cyberus

Well, screw that then. Just going to get Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, Watch Dogs,Sonic Lost World, and Wind Waker HD instead

    • audi lover

So you wont buy because its now being released on other formats correct? So why bother with watch dogs?

      • Cyberus

Because Ubisoft has been supporting the Wii U since it came out, despite everyone doubting it. Rayman Legends, Just Dance, Assassins Creed 3, Assassin’s Creed 4, ZombiU

And Watch Dogs didn’t lie to me

  • leo

Just release the FREAKIN game Already :)

  • atl hawks

    Wii U: $300

    PS3/Vita: estimated around $450

    Xbox/Smartglass: estimated around $500…

WHO THE HELL WOULD BUY THIS INSTEAD!

    • Daniel Gonzalez

      You mean PS4.

      • Sean

        no ps4 version announced

        • Daniel Gonzalez

Nevermind. Thought he was talking about next gen stuff.

          • Sean

oh sorry, didnt mean to be dickish

          • Daniel Gonzalez

No worries, didn’t sound dickish to me.

    • oontz

“WHO THE HELL WOULD BUY THIS INSTEAD!”

Your question should be… who the hell will buy a game they already bought and beat almost 2 years ago on PS3.

  • Sean

i was excited at one point and now have no intentions of buying this game

  • Brad Vincent

Anybody else see this as potential good news for WiiU as far as potential game releases? If more developers are noticing dual screen features as a multi-platform function, they’ll be more likely to make the effort to enhance those features and release more widely.

  • Sharingan

The sales will be really bad. Not just on the Wii U but on the other consoles to.

  • Fuzunga

Well, I’m certainly not going to buy a tablet or a Vita just for this and I already have a Wii U, so…

  • YayGs

I’m disappointed, but I still want it, it will play better on the Gamepad anyway. They should have at least released the Wii U Version first instead of simultaneously across all platforms. Just look at how much competition they have now as apposed to just a month or two ago.

    • oontz

competition? I played and beat this game almost 2 years ago. I am not even sure why they’re releasing this on PS3 and 360 again.

      • YayGs

I meant for the Wii U version and for gamers who haven’t played it before. I mean now that W101 and Pikmin and soon Zelda HD are out.

        • oontz

I don’t know why any wiiu owner would pay full price for a 2 year old game. Especially since the ps3 directors cut is only 30usd. Blatant rip off to have to pay full price.

          • YayGs

There have been plenty of games that were still full price after 2 years or more and still worth it, they just have to be quality games (not saying this one is, like I said I’ve never played it).

That does seem pretty BS that the 360 & PS3 versions are only $30 and the Wii U one is $50. And I agree, close to no point on re-releasing to those systems.

          • oontz

Yeah, if anything the wiiu version should also be 30. It’s only fair.

  • ACE

why is always bad news ? I am tired of that

    • audi lover

Why bad news? its an old game that been touched up a bit it was obvious it was gona get another outing on all 3 consoles and its only 24.99 on amazon for preorder

  • FlashFan207

Even with the Vita and Smartglass options, the Wii U version will still be the superior usage of the touchpad feature. The Wii U Gamepad is unrivaled. It’s just up to the developer to ensure the game runs smoothly during gameplay. That, unfortunately, is out of Nintendo’s hands when a third party game releases on their system.

  • nexxus6

As a WiiU owner, this doesn’t really bother me. I still plan on purchasing the game because it looks cool. Also, new features or not, I don’t think 360 or PS3 owners are going to run out and purchase a re-release of a game that already is available for said systems. The WiiU version is the only avenue for Deus Ex to take to reach new customers. Plus, I don’t think this game was going to be a “system seller”. So fret not WiiU supporters, this will not have a measurable impact on Nintendo.

    • Elem187

Lucky for us, we get to pay full price for it while PS3, 360 and PC owners can pick it up for $30.

  • mar laguna

right now square is not liking alot the wii u this is thier first game and no exclusive any mor its not fair thats why the wii u dose not sell alot of boxes ;(

  • Adrian Brown

and then they blame Wii U for the poor sales…

  • http://www.cobrablade.com/ Cobra

    Well… this really sucks.

  • LordiMcKill

Considering that hardly anyone uses the Vita or Smartass as an optional form of play, I don’t think that this is going to be much of an issue.

I mean, come on who in there right mind would spend £200+ on a handheld or a smartphone just so they can use a feature that they’ll only play with once or twice when the Wii U has got it there part and parcel with everything else included and its features are guaranteed to be used every single time.

    • Elem187

I agree with the Vita comment, but most people already have a smartphone or tablet, so smartglass would be cheap for these people… but I can’t imagine playing on the smart glass without physical buttons and twin sticks.

At any rate, this game is going to bomb so hard. Its like Square really really loves to flush money down the toilet…. The ps3/360/PC editions will sell for $30…. which will bomb when you get the original version for less than $10…. then for us Wii U owners Square expects us to pay full price $60.

They would make a heck of a lot more money if they just ported Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts.

  • Ross Brocklesby

The wiki is failing bad, let me explain. Yesterday I took my wiiu round to my friends house. He had never herd of a wiiu. That wasn’t what got me, when I fired it up and showed him that he could play his games through the pad he was instantly impressed, even more impressed when I showed him what the gamepad does when playing through a TV. Now he his getting the ps4, and now a wiiu. This is the problem, why is it not being advertised? Why are nintendo letting it happen? Reviewers and gamers are slating the wiiu, ever noticed how the ppl who don’t own a wiiu complain more. Those who own one know it has its pros and cons but generally think its a sweet bit of tech.

    • Elem187

      Don’t use Wiki … I use google.

in all seriousness. Nintendo isn’t going to advertise unless they have great games available…. its makes no sense to dump $50 million dollars on an advertising campaign for games that are not out yet. Its like flushing money in the toilet.

If i see a commercial for something i want really really bad and at the end of the advertisement it tells me its not out until December? Well guess what I’m going to put it out of my head until December, that is if I even remember when December finally rolls around.

advertising right now is a waste of money.

  • wu__wei_lion

It’s a port of a two or three year old game. It’s fairly likely that it will bomb on all platforms.

  • QuaFicK

I hope they release an update for the steam version, so I dont need to have two almost identical games in my library.

    • Elem187

Doubtful… I believe they are selling this update for $30 on all platforms minus Wii U… us Wii U owners are expected to pay full price for it.

Who would want too play with Smartglass? It doesn’t have any physical buttons and Vita??? What a great investment that piece of junk was, using the Vita as a controller seems to be the only thing it has. Wii U as it was originally planned for is the way for me. Just like Rayman Legends.

    LMFAO!!!!!!!Another developer OWNS Nintendo!!!BWAHAHAHAHAHA
Goes to show you that the Gamepad controller is a total gimmick!!!
Hillarious how you can now get the same special features using the PS3 and Xbox 360 with Glass and Vita!!!
    LMFAO!!!

So wii u gamepad is a gimmick and yet micropenis and sony are gona use the same features with overly expensive vita and smartglass, your one big contradiction, one minute you laugh at wii u for the feature next you big up sony and micropenis for copying ur a stone cold twat

you still haunt this site? We need to Call the Troll pest control NOW!

“Goes to show you that the Gamepad controller is a total gimmick!!!”
Uh, no. That’s completely backwards, actually. If anything, this goes to show that the Gamepad is not simply a gimmick, and does indeed have use in gaming.

  • Orange Lada

Unlikely that many PS3 players are going to buy a Vita just for this. Smartglass (maybe – I had to look up what it is), but the only serious use of these features will be on the Wii U, as it has the system all there for you – no external parts required.

Really doesn’t make any difference. What matters is … WHEN IS IT IN THE E-SHOP?!

  • Elem187

Who cares, this game is going to BOMB hard on ALL systems… The Wii U version will fail as well. They will release this updated version for $30 on PS3/360 and PC, yet they will be charging Wii U owners full price for the same game.

Why do publishers treat us like effing idiots? I know what they think, they think only parents and children buy Nintendo consoles, but in reality, Most of us have multiple gaming systems. So when we see companies pull this garbage, its actually insulting. Good luck with your bomb Square… maybe next time you will actually port a game people care about, like Final Fantasy.

  • Desh

There is now way to fully simulate Wiiu Gamepad on xbox smartglass and on Vita+ps3 via HW limitation.Upad is vastly superior in streaming and response

  • SomeFluffer64

“Hey, let’s make Wii U owners pay double the price!”
“What? It didn’t sell well on Wii U? THEN WII U IS UNPROFITABLE FOR THIRD PARTY DEVELOPERS!”

  • MujuraNoKamen

Wii U version will still be the best (See my other comments for why) Don’t hate on this game just because they’re trying to do whatever they can on PS360. It might suck not having these features exclusive but Square would get flamed by XBots & Fonys if they didn’t incorporate their shitty ideas. Wii U FTW!
