Miiverse smartphone apps coming “soon”

miiverseWhen Nintendo first revealed Miiverse, they showed off the cool social network running on a variety of devices, including the 3DS, tablets, and smartphones. But it’s been almost a year, and we still don’t have access to Miiverse on our iPhones and Android devices via dedicated apps. This will change “soon”, according to Nintendo.

During an eShop presentation at The Indie Games Collective event in the UK, Nintendo of Europe’s Business Development Manager, Ed Valiente, said that we can expect Miiverse apps on smartphones, tablets, and the 3DS “soon”. Miiverse has been available on smartphones via a browser since April, but a dedicated app would make things much better (not to mention smoother).

Nintendo has previously said that Miiverse will arrive on the 3DS in 2013, and that smartphone apps were in development. Hopefully we’ll see the apps by the end of the year. But, as we all know, “soon” in Nintendo-speak could mean tomorrow or next year. We’ll let you know as “soon” as the apps are available.

  • Miiverse for 3DS! Nintendo Acknowledged its existence!

  • Joyous Killer

I still feel like somethings missing…. Miiverse can be better. But how….

    • actual notification of messages would be lovely

    • TheWichi

Been able to chat with friends without opening the whole Miiverse App would be nice…

    • Krzysztof

Or Miiverse app itself, should be preloaded in RAM and stay active non stop. It takes ages to load it, which is very frustrating.

    • Josiah Parsons

      1) the ability to respond to specific comments, instead of the whole chain.
      2) art academy tools standard.
      3) the ability to post short video clips, like 30 seconds before you press the home button

      • or animation made with the art app. . . i don’t care videos, but gif made with animation from the same app you draw, could be cool

        • Josiah Parsons

          Yeah! kinda like flipbook.

However, video of that epic flip in NFS:MW might be worth it.

    • Untrentide

I donno, i feel a community share would be nice for some games like Animal Crossing since you can make the different outfits and share them. Unless other games embrace that then i guess it wouldn’t be too important πŸ˜›

  • CEObrainz

As long as they keep the service locked to people who have an account made on a Wii U or 3DS I’ll be happy. Less trolls = Better community.

    • Zombie Boy

They seem to keep a close watch over that kind of thing on Miiverse, and I’d hate to see it change. It’s nice to go somewhere and actually be able to talk about games without some moron wading in and trying to upset everyone!

      • Nintedward

So true lol, Miiverse is a very mature and sophisticated community! You have to think before you type which encourages all types of useful conversation.

        • CEObrainz

Also it’s like a Deviantart for Nintendo drawings, even if some of the art isn’t…..great….

          • Nintedward

The Art academy community is amazing. Some of the things people draw is staggering.

          • CEObrainz

Yea, who knew so many talented artists have a Wii U?

          • Arthur Jarret

I actually managed to draw far better pics on miiverse than on art academy… I work well with limitations – so I’m more of a pixel-artist… It’s a great platform to show creativity on – I also really recommend Colors! 3D on 3DS for that (on which I did manage to make some decent looking pics)

          • Nintedward

I’ve got Colors 3D on 3DS and it’s awesome, you can do some amazing things with the 3D layers! It’s better than sketchpad, but skehtpad is good to.

          • Arthur Jarret

Whats your colors username? Mine is Zapatero (long story) – but I haven’t uploaded in ages. My kirby pic. came out pretty nice, though (about a year ago, haha)

          • Squid

I draw too, :3 I’m not awesome like the others but I’m getting there.

    • Jack5221

Agreed!!! The community itself is really nice. Hardly any trolls – from my experience using it.

      • Clel

I feel the admins go a bit hard sometimes though, but at the same time it’s nice that they filter uber-uber-strictly.

        • Magnus Eriksson

I drew a rose yesterday and put it out on Miiverse. They removed it because they meant it resembled a vagina. So I drew a banana intead, that one is not removed.

          • david jarman

I love the fact that they do edit and censor cause there is no need for obscene pics.
That people just stick to talking about video games and being friendly.

          • Magnus Eriksson

The rose kind of looked like a vagina, but it was still a rose. On the other hand, the penis kind of looked like a banana, but it was still a penis.

          • TaintedXGamer

            lol seriously?!

          • Magnus Eriksson

            No, only half-way serious.

      • Magnus Eriksson

Too expensive. I bought my Wii U only to be able to troll on Miiverse. But I have to much money and too little life…

    • Magnus Eriksson

Who cares? This is a step in the right decision. Soon we will have Mario, Zelda and DK playing on mobile phones instead of consoles. Just as the great analyst Michael Pachter predicted long ago. This is great!

      • Squid

And maybe our 3DS will be replacing the gamepad for the Wii U! *Sarcasm*

        • Magnus Eriksson

3DS will be replaced by mobile phones and pads yes.

          • david jarman

            You sound like Thor

          • Gregg Cerenzio

Sales CLEARLY say otherwise. Thanks. Now, back to my IPAD, AND, 3DS-XL

    • Rukiafan Rukiachan

Miiverse is a best thing happen in years for video games.

    • Saleh Sbeiti

I disagree, why not let people see the amazing Miiverse artists, don’t constrict your userbase, even if they’re on another platform.

      • CEObrainz

I have no problem with everyone seeing the artwork, in fact stuff like that should be made more easier to share. The only problem is everyone who want’s to troll being able to make an account and post if it’s not restricted.

        • Saleh Sbeiti

Who cares if they troll, that’ll only help the community grow and expand!

          • Untrentide

Should you accept everyone who comes to the border, or only accept the ones that will help the country develop? Just because its another person, it doesn’t mean its a productive and useful addition.

      • I think once they add MiiVerse on the 3DS the community will grow and it should stay with people that own a Wii U or a 3DS/2DS. No reason open it up to people that would just sign up to ruin the communities

        • Saleh Sbeiti

Ruin communities? How would that ruin communities? Nintendo is trying to get those people to buy a Wii U, so why not promote it? Plus, why would they make an app for a device that you can’t sign up for unless you have a Wii U?

          • For the same reason people who dislike a product will “like” the facebook page or join a news/blog site or forum of a product just to troll and spread their hate. We have plenty of those people here on Wii U Daily.

          • Saleh Sbeiti

Who the fuck cares? Really, this is just an opportunity to expand.

          • Magnus Eriksson

            Name one you liar!

          • Untrentide

A community should exist where the people who paid for the product should be able to communicate with one another. Free communities are generally known for having the most unfriendly population and that lead to a decline in the true fans. (League of Legends)

    • disqus_sgtob6da3X

Like the pc ones, you only be able to comment or anything if you sign in to Nintendo Network ID.

    • Josiah Parsons

Maybe they will make it so you need a nintendo network account to post on the app.

    • Rich Garriques

nintendo has a better community , you just cant escape the trolls on psn and xbox live

    • Sonic the Hedgehog

SWEET! Now I can browse Miiverse on Tails’ handheld. He flashed Android in it!

YES! I was waiting for this, I use my tablet most of any thing since I don’t have a “Smartphone” ATM so I would love this.

  • Doctors Tardis

I’d rather see it on 3ds

    • Didnt read the article, did ya?

  • Meeii

“don’t have access to Miiverse on our iPhones and Android “, there are more than iPhone and Android you know. For example windows phone, so why not just say smartphones?

    • wiiudaily

Wait, someone actually uses Windows Phone?

      • Clel
      • Meeii

I don’t understand why anyone on a Wii U site would have that attitude. Wii U sell bad as hell and have no market share at all, so guess we should go around and say that it don’t exist or that no one use it?

When you think about it Windows Phone and Wii U are the same.

        • david jarman

Actually the windows phone is rated better then iOS phones and android phones.

That’s my next phone to get.

          • Davor Peterlin

Windows OS is so bad man; it may be rated higher but that doesn’t mean it is more convenient, performs quicker or offers better services :L

          • david jarman

Uhm, that’s exactly why its rated high. The phone is snappier and the OS works well for the phone. Service has to deal with the provider not the os.
They started tiling way before htc versions of tiling. Tiling is pretty convenient for me.

          • Jizz Beard thePirate

Rated higher in what sense? Both Android and iOS has vastly larger apps library and Android is vastly more customizable…
The lastest Nokia phones also has last generation hardware compared to the current phones on the market and the performance in benchmarks is a joke compared to current gen phones with lastest hardware on Android and iOS. (Google it first before you reply)

So… I don’t know what you are talking about, the only way WP is better is on Camera and smoothness of the OS but having an OS with more fluid animation doesn’t mean its a better OS… Specially when the third party is a joke and MS struggles to even have an official youtube app from Google

          • david jarman

I just wrote why it was rated well. Apps doesn’t mean phone itself functions best. I could care less about browser speed. I have an iPhone 5 and I have to sometimes think for it. They may have an older chipset, but its a chip set that functions well. New doesn’t always mean better.
They seem to be smoother and more reliable.
Everyone saying its fast and functional. That’s more important then having more useless apps to saturate the market.
I see htc’s always powering down shutting off on their own in the middle of phone calls(Evo).
I don’t need to customize my phone. I need one that works and stays working.
I did google it and a lot if people are pleased with it.
Obviously we see things different and we both have bias browsers. That’s cool with me.
            Viva Nintendo!

          • WindowsPhone 8.x has shown to perform better on phones so they do not need to “wow” the weak minded with cores and specs.. Personally I find the WindowsPhone OS easier for people to pick up and use compared to iOS and especially Android. Android is nice but there is some inconsistency amongst the phones so how it is used on one phone can differ pretty substantially than it is used on another phone.

But in the end it comes down to personal preference as the functions the majority of people use their smartphones for is available across the board. To me iOS has become boring and the app quality is terrible and more about quantity. I am currently an owner of an iPhone 4s and looking at a WindowsPhone as my next phone.

          • Mark

I somewhat agree. Although I am an Android guy, I must say, Windows OS works very well.

          • Entropyguy

It *is* a pretty fantastic OS. A lot of the apps that are on Android or iOS just aren’t available on Windows Phone, but everything else works like a dream.

          • david jarman

I am going to go for it. I’m going to either get the 925 and when 1020 no longer becomes AT&T exclusive I’ll get that.

          • Entropyguy

I have the HTC 8X myself, but the 925 looks awesome.

        • Josiah Parsons

          Wii U has better software.
Granted, Windows phones have cooler colors.

          • david jarman

Lol! Now that I agree with!

      • Baum γ€Œγƒ„γƒͺー」

        Those are actually pretty good…

    • Entropyguy

As a Windows Phone user, I’m kind of used to being ignored by app developers. πŸ™

  • Nintedward

I find the Miiverse web browser to be very convenient and that’s how I post on miiverse unless making an in-game post these days. Miiverse of Smartphones will take this to the next level.

3DS deserves it’s own Mii-verse community. What they should do is take like the top 40 most popular 3DS games and make a community for each of them… then add all the new games in that arrive there on.

  • Daniel Gonzalez

Next: NES and SNES games on the apple app marketplace.

    • Mark

On Android, I can download a free emulator, download roms, and play the game.

    • Josiah Parsons

If you aren’t afraid of hacking, you can jailbreak your idevice and download emulators and other stuff off of Cydia.

  • Keith D. Witherspoon

Wait what? I’ve been using the Miiverse App for a couple months now. So what am I using? The app is made by Nintendo. I don’t get it.

    • Baum γ€Œγƒ„γƒͺー」

You can access the Miiverse through your phone’s/PC’s/3DS’s browser, but there is no official app yet…You should be quite careful with everything in that direction, that’s not officially confirmed …

      • Uh Mazing

You can’t through the 3DS browser. Miiverse claims it’s not compatible or something like that.

      • Keith D. Witherspoon

I know better than that, but I still have the app and it says its published by Nintendo. What’s even stranger is when I went to double check on Google Play Store it wasn’t there? I feel like I’m in the Twilight Zone. Oh well. Just hope this version will allow us to exchange friends and possibly have Nintendo Network built in as well.

  • Yaboydd

Hopefully i think now they will allow accounts to be made like PSN and Live, thats the only way i see this working out without any trolls using there smart phones to make miiverse a terrible community., ( NOT A TROLL BTW)

  • CMB

good idea, now hury up and make the app

  • Ony

Would be nice if they add Miiverse INSIDE the 3DS with full functions like on the Wii U (posting screen captures etc without exiting the game of course)

Maybe it’s really long because they will release the one account for both 3DS and Wii U at the same time ? *so much hope*

  • Nintendo4life

Great idea and it will prove again Wii U is the best and awesome console

  • allen markow

Now when you take your smartphone to bed with you, do it in comfort with this great item from Amazon that floats your phone from any bed. ON SALE TODAY . !

  • Jake

Knowing nintendo, soon is like months. If miiverse on the 3DS is like the wii u version then yeah it will take a long time. But what is taking them so long for the app. They said originally the summer.

    • kevin nun—-

Oh hey! Any news on when is the second big system update for the Wii U?

      • They said late September – Early October last time it was discussed.

        • kevin nun—-

  • Merrfn

Have Nintendo developed a app/website for PC browsers?

  • D-Man

    What’s taking so long?

  • Johny

    kinda slow news thesedays huh?

    • Daniel Gonzalez

      The weekends usually are.

  • Ducked

I’m sorry, what were you saying about Nintendo living in the past?

    • Saleh Sbeiti

Nintendo is. Still no party chat, head phone jack for pro controller, 8 gigs and short battery life that you would expect from a wireless NES controller! They still didn’t even get adding friends right! WHY DO WE BOTH NEED TO ADD EACH OTHER!

      • Ducked

The Pro Controller has 80 hours of battery life. There extending the battery life for the Wii U gamepad. There working on it, at least it’s free. Nintendo has been strongly focused on software after sales bombed this year.

        • Saleh Sbeiti

The pro controller has good battery life, but no head phone jack, the Wii U has a headphone jack, but poor battery life, is it to much to ask for both?

          • Ducked

I guess your right. But they will continue to extend on the battery life for the gamepad. And there more then likely to make newer pro controllers. Ones with headset jacks, and motion.

  • Linskarmo

I don’t have a phone, so I doubt this would pertain to me. I hope the 3DS version is coming along nicely, though.

    • Merrfn

I have a second generation iPod. All it can do is YouTube and listen to music. If you try to use the browser on it you will throw it at the wall with frustration, so this won’t appeal to me greatly either. I am sure there is a big audience for it seeing as it feels like if you have a house you have a smartphone nowadays…

      • Arthur Jarret

        I own a house, but don’t have a smartphone.

It was either mortgage or being able to call my friends… and I REALLY needed a bigger place to store my game collection. So I said F to my social life!

        (I’m a sad person…)

        • Merrfn

Same with my parents. They tend to use really old technology for a long time and go from the worst to the best. For instance we had an old box of a T.V, that we would have to move the ariel cord, and then hold up with blue tack. Then we got a 32 inch samsung smart T.V mounted on our wall. They have old cellphones that receive texts and phone calls 2 days afte they were sent. Now they will probably get the iPhone 6. Don’t get me started on our car… we named her Bertha… she is very ah “unique”.

My point was, just about 4/5 people nowadays have a smartphone.

  • Merrfn

I am so paranoid of getting banned on Miiverse or my comment deleted, I don’t post at all…

    • Well don’t be an ass and use foul language and you should be fine. Not that I am implying you are an ass or use foul language like that, just that is the stuff that will get you reported.

      • Merrfn

When I started to read the beginning of the comment I thought you were taking a dig at me xD Good thing you added that little disclaimer or I may of took offence.

        • wimpykid456

          unicorns and rainbows

  • MetroidZero

Miiverse is pretty cool when it comes to in-game implementation. I always love reading those Death Messages on Resident Evil: Revelations, and I like seeing those “Warning/Not Safe” votes in ZombiU.

  • MysticDude97

For those who wanted Nintendo to stop being first-party, and start making iOS apps, your dream is about to become half-true.

  • ab wii kenobi

ummmm…….I don’t think I am understanding correctly! But a app to access miiverse on your phone right?Cause if I am understanding correctly I have a app on my phone already to access miiverse and if I didn’t understand the article correctly I apologize!

    • cs_shane

Actually, you don’t have an “app” to access Miiverse on your phone. Your able to access Miiverse via your phone’s web browser. What Nintendo is talking about is “native” access, meaning an app designed to be downloaded from the app store. For example, the Facebook and Twitter apps are “Native”.

      • ab wii kenobi

And…….No!!!!! I have a app I downloaded from the Google app store! It looks like it is not officially from Nintendo by the way no one knows about it but I access Miiverse threw it. Miiverse for android.

        • cs_shane

And……No!!!!!! That is NOT a “native” app from Nintendo. That is an unofficial app that someone created to load the Miiverse WEBSITE in a WebView, aka NOT a NATIVE app.

          • ab wii kenobi

I am pretty sure I wrote “I don’t think its officially from Nintendo” but whatever! But it is a app for miiverse I downloaded from the app store! That is all!

    • ab wii kenobi

      Here it is.

  • Gregg Cerenzio

Awesome. MiiVerse is super cool. And yes, of course, WiiU owners only. thanks.

  • devmiles

miiverse for me feels too much aimed towards young people. it’s nice to see the artwork things people draw and such but nintendo’s policy just sucks. i was banned so many times because of a so called violation of words, spelling, offensive whatever… it’s really ridiculous and i don’t feel miiverse as any addition to gaming aside from nintendo’s unclear vision what they want with it. open it up, make it go facebook, good profiles etc, more mature..i feel like a retard on miiverse

    • So you are upset that MiiVerse has strict rules of conduct to keep the atmosphere clean and respectful.. Heaven forbid you cannot troll or put down others and use offensive words or material. I think it is more childish in the forum spaces where people do this. Real adults and mature people are respectful and considerate of others.

      • devmiles

no, it has nothing to do with respect, i’m always respectful, but more the type of words that are ‘banned’ if you want to point out to the community that the way to destroy a boss in pikmin 3 is to throw the balls at him you are banned, or try to say something silly like throwing fireballs, it’s just ridiculous what you get banned for. everything seems aimed towards very young children, i’m 32 and feel outdated by a company that i used to love and have a huge collection of. with policy in general i mean the whole aim of nintendo nowadays. back in the days with the NES and SNES the games were much darker and gritty too.

        • Interesting…. I wonder if someone reported your comments.. I mean I have used the word balls before on MiiVerse in TVii watching a sports program. I apologize as I have not seen anything super strict on MiiVerse but I know that if you give away something in a game and do not mark it as a spoiler they are kind of against that.

I wonder if they have a list of banned words you cannot use.

          • Xavier Lopez Chabelo

There are some things I dont like about miiverse, like all the kids posting stupid Smash Bros requests, for example.

          • Petri

I don’t like little kids, that delete your answers, just because you don’t agree with them on certain things, but still continue to argue with you. Though I just ignore and block those.
But wish there was a child free section in there.
I haven’t tested or found out yet, if under aged can go to communities rated M/18 games.

          • Xavier Lopez Chabelo

Exactly, that would be great, a kids and mature section

    • Arthur Jarret

I got a warning for talking about criminal activities… even though the thing I was talking about is perfectly legal here in the Netherlands!

When they deleted my post, I replied to them with “I changed my Mii, Username or Profile”. It’s a shame you are unable to elaborate and defend your actions, though.

But after all the fair warnings I got, I’m amazed that I haven’t had a single ban yet. (I was flagged for violence, criminal activity, spoilers, language, inciting protest, repeated off-topic posting – all without getting a single ban…) – so I really wonder what people who do get a ban must have done (and how many times).

But balls is auto-restricted, right? That’s something that I noted when posting about zen pinball… a shame. Try to set another language in your system: then english bad words go through okay. Because I set my system language to english – I cannot use the Dutch word ‘kunt’ (which means ‘can’ – as in, you can have your cake, and you can eat it too) – but if I set my language to Dutch, I can use the word both with a ‘k’ and a ‘c’.

      • YogiGRB

        Holland, oranje boven!
        Iamsterdam πŸ˜€

        • Arthur Jarret

          Hup, holland, hup!

  • Nintendude

The only social network app I’ll have on my phone.

  • Random12multi

Soon…. They said that about there Games…

  • Cool. Nuff said.

  • FlashFan207

This is so awesome. More accessibility can never be a bad thing. Now I can check out what’s up in the community while my wife is playing Nintendoland.

  • Dzhim Kristiansen

So when are you guys announcing the Splinter Cell Blacklist winner?

    • Daniel Gonzalez

      When it’s white listed.

      • Arthur Jarret

I don’t get it, shouldn’t it go gold first?

  • ab wii kenobi

I guess it is not official but it gets the job done!
