Splinter Cell: Blacklist for Wii U undergoing maintenance tomorrow

Splinter Cell: Blacklist for the Wii U has had some problems with online play, noted both in our review and the community playthrough we did just last week. Sometimes the game freezes, making tense stealth missions nearly impossible. Thankfully it looks like Ubisoft is working to address these issues, as they have announced via Twitter that Blacklist servers will be down tomorrow for around 4 hours while they undergo maintenance.

Hopefully we’ll see a patch that fixes these freezing issues some people have experienced while trying to play online. Have you experienced any issues? Let us know in the comments below.

Know what would be nice? That patch for offline co-op! Hop to it!

    • SleepySkullhead

      Ikr. Get on that!

    • Alex

For me I don’t understand the WiiU Wi-Fi multiplayer is way more better than PSN and great as XBox Live, CoD Blackops shows how good the N’s Wi-Fi can be.

      • Arthur Jarret

Not to mention Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. I’ve never had any issue playing online on that.

I’m so enthralled in my second play-through of The Wonderful 101 at the moment, I doubt I’ll be going back to Blacklist anytime soon.

I take it u are working on a let’s play or something for w101? I’m excited for that!

I have 2 episodes up already on my channel!

  • Sean

my wii u will sometimes freeze with it online making a loud terrible sound until i do a hard reset on it

    • Victor O

      Same here.

      • Victor O

I’ve had my games freeze, make a loud ringing noise, struggle to connect, and lag horribly. This patch cannot come soon enough. if GameStop offered more than $15 for trade-in on this, I would have traded it in already.

    • Sdudyoy

My old Wii does that on Netflix and my Wii U does that every now and then, It’s not just your Wii don’t worry.

    • Nathaniel Lopez

I can attest to this as this happens to me quite a bit. In may case I
wouldn’t say it’s rare, but it is uncommon. It happens to me at least
once a week; more if I’m trying trying to watch something on the Hulu
app, but thankfully that freezes without the alarming “BEEEEEEEEEE”
      sound.

      • LonDonE247

I too used to have this problem, but since i bought the wii lan adapter, and so use the Ethernet cable and use my wii u wired it hasn’t happen since, i also had to forward the ports manually, funny thing is i don’t think the wii u uses upnp LMAO, and so ports are blocked and cause problems online with wii u.

Since i opened the nintendo wi-fi port, and opened the same ports for black ops on the wii, i just copied the wii black ops port numbers and opened them, and also since i opened the port for the ubisoft online on wii u, i have not had a single freeze, and now i get open nat type in cod blops 2, where as i used to get moderate, seriously assign a static i.p to your wii u, then either put it into your routers DMZ, which i couldn’t do because i put my ps3 in my dmz, so i just port forwarded the required ports,it worked a charm!

I know its a pain but nintendo, ubisoft etc are lazy, so either way you really need to do it, go to portforward.com, and look up your router, and open the ports i said, trust me my wii u loads faster, and has not freeze even once since i done the above!!

Also remember to turn off any upnp security and firewall on your router, you don’t really need it, as long as you have a fire wall on your pc, consoles are usually fine online!

        • Arthur Jarret

I run no security protocol on my router, and use a MAC whitelist instead. Because I either couldn’t connect my DS or my 3DS online with the available security settings. Works wonders for wii U too. Haven’t had any of the problems some people on miiverse complain about.

          • LonDonE247

            agreed

        • Nathaniel Lopez

I’ve tried a couple of methods to get open nat type on BO2 and none have worked and the Wii U freezes did not stop. I think it may just be my router as it doesn’t have a NAT type option and port forwarding is a real hassle when compared to other routers I have either configured or owned. I might try setting up a static IP, as you said, as I’ve yet to try that. I’ll probably try messing around with it later on today. Thanks for the pointers.

          • LonDonE247

my friend for any port forwarding to work you must assign your device a static ip. or its pointless, also sometime this too wont work, and so a work around for some routers is instead of opening the said ports for your device(wiiu) which you do by assigning the static ip and ports to the mack address of the wii u, instead of doing this forward the ports to the static i.p which you assigned to your wii u, this sometimes works better with some routers, meaning instead of putting in the wii u mack address manually put the ip address you assigned to your wii u! if you need any more help message me i will be glad to help mate, but also bear in mind some internet service providers block certain ports, and also some routers don’t allow port forwarding, either way the website portforward.com has most routers listed with a step by step guide!

    • Magnus Eriksson

Happens sometimes on youtube. A couple of times every week.

    • http://johnkostrzewski.com/ JohninMotion

Happened to me multiple times oddly enough only when playing Blacklist. I was scared the first time it happened because I thought my Wii U bit the dust. The time it hurt the most was when i was wearing headphones.

      You are not alone.

  • SonicLucario

This is nice to hear, I wanna play online without having to worry about it freezing

  • Rodger Jamjet

I agree with azhood!! Who gives a toss about SCBL. The wonderful 101 eats this game!

  • Xera22xc

sweet. my Wii U is gathering dust so carry on!

    • Nathaniel Lopez

At that point you may as well just do a trade-in or something. Unless, of course, you’re waiting for SSB Wii U, Mario Kart, etc.

    • CMB

      Doubt you even have one

      • Xera22xc

Wow, are we really doing this? I’ve had one since launch, thanks.

  • AAAkabob

It is CONSTANT. Never before have a played on such a broken online infrastructure. The Wii U Blacklist servers make SSB Brawl’s online look like a gift from God.

    • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

      now THATS sayin something

  • Gabriel Dowdy

Now all we need is local co op patched and I’ll love em’ forever.

    • Daniel Brown

That’s all I’m waiting for right now. THEN I’ll buy it.

  • Alexander Kleinwechter

JUst a question, why doesnt GTAV come out to the Wii U

    • Magnus Eriksson

Because Wii U simply doesnt have enough shaders to support it…

      • ChildrenoftheNIN

I just have too ask did you pull that out of your ass cause the xbox 360 has 48 shaders were teh wii u has 400 shaders infact there called stream processors the wii u’s gpu is far more advanced then ps3/360 really now can you be that stupid to make that statement

        • Magnus Eriksson

Please, could you try to be a bit more specific here? And please, put away those ad hominem too. You can act civilized instead of this kind of behaviour. You simply misunderstood the specs here. That thing is for sure.

        • CMB

          Dude he is just joking

    • Agent721

The real reason is GTA Chinatown wars on the DS sold poorly, as did Bully on the Wii. Its not about shaders or other bs, its about the unability to turn a profit.

      • Magnus Eriksson

And lack of shaders is the reason for that. If Nintendo just had added more shaders, then the console would have sold way better and third party devs would have stayed.

        • Veries Seals

Where are you getting this information? I would like to read your source.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Google Nintendo+not enough shaders+michael pachter. There you will find reliable sources on what you seek.

          • Arthur Jarret
          • Magnus Eriksson

Haha, yeah. Found that too earlier. I think I share that guys sense of humour.

          • ChildrenoftheNIN

sir you are a idiot if you listen to michael pachter the wii u has 400 stream processors vs xbox 360 has 48 that is what is fact plz stop with your dumbassery and not speak anymore

          • Magnus Eriksson

You are a bit ignorant there. Michael Pachter is a highly respected business analyst who happens to have done a precise prediction about Wii U. He’s been interwieved by basically every big newspaper or magazine with a technical profile that touches into the console business. You should learn some respect there. And I dont like your tone either mr. Hush! Go and wash your mouth with soap.

          • ChildrenoftheNIN

Michael patcher takes a shit in his hand and throws it at the wall seeing what will stick he said the 3ds was doomed too and look were its at 130,000 sold in the month of august and vita 29k now plz stfu up pacther is a paid troll nothing else

          • Magnus Eriksson

This fanboyistic troll business again. Of course Pachter is not a troll. He is an business analyst doing his job. So far he’s been correct on the Wii U hasnt he? The sales are abmysal, excactly has he predicted.

          • david jarman

            LOL!

          • Veries Seals

Michael Pachter is not a tech guru. He is a financial analyst which is ok, but their jobs are to try to guess which way businesses will fair in the market according to trends. So everything he says is just opinion based on what he thinks the market may or may not do. Don’t think he has personally been under the hood of a Wii U. I am pretty sure he does not own one since Game Trailers, which publishes his interviews seem to be all about Microsoft. Just like IGN is about Sony.

          • Andrew Chambers

Don’t bother, I guarantee he’ll never give a legit source.

          • Magnus Eriksson

            Google it

          • Magnus Eriksson

Here is the argument from a programmer, after that I show how it all logically follows in a perfect sound argument.

“Yeah, that’s true. It doesn’t produce graphics as well as the PS3 or the 360. There aren’t as many shaders, it’s not as capable. Sure, some things are better, mostly as a result of it being a more modern design. But overall the Wii U just can’t quite keep up.”

            Frostbite 2 uses shaders
            http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,693558/DirectX-11-Frostbite-2-engine-Battlefield-uses-Compute-Shader-for-Deferred-Shading/News/

            Nintendo cannot run frostbite 2
            https://mobile.twitter.com/repi/status/331549012022927360?screen_name=repi

            Nintendo doesnt got enough shaders
            http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2012-04-02-wii-u-less-powerful-than-ps3-xbox-360-developers-say

          • Veries Seals

Actually none of that is true. Need for Speed most Wanted U is running on the frostbite 2 engine if I am not mistaken. And it runs it flawlessly, with DICE signs through out the game. I read those that article before and that was EA venting at Nintendo during the feud. And if you read all of the information you would know that they retracted that statement as well and even admitted that the Wii U would run frostbite 3. I think you should keep up with current news. Oh in case you would like to read it.

            http://wiiudaily.com/2013/07/ea-on-frostbite-3-wii-u/

          • Andrew Chambers

So your source that you used to show the Wii U doesn’t have enough shaders is gamesindustry? They post articles contradicting themselves and you want me to believe that their ‘anonymous source’ is legit?

Also, did you really post an article telling me that a 3D game engine uses shaders? They all do, but what you failed to read in that article is that Frostbite 2 utilized DirectX 10 and 11, neither of which are supported on the 360 or PS3. Also, DirectX is a Microsoft product, so it makes sense that the Wii U supports alternative methods, just like Sony consoles.

        • Arthur Jarret

XD – some people do make it too easy, don’t they?

        • Nathaniel Lopez

Meh, I guess for some people, graphics is a must, but honestly if you can just get me the game using PS2 graphics I’ll be fine with it considering the game is fun and functions properly, of course. Don’t get me wrong, I can appreciate good graphics and whatnot. All I’m saying is I’m willing to settle to just be able to play a game on my console of choice.

          • Magnus Eriksson

The problem is only that lack of shaders is the reason why Nintendo lost all third party support. EA tried to have Frostbite 2 running on it. It was way too weak, so they didnt even bother with Frostbite 3 that can run on PS3 and XBox360. That pretty much puts the Wii U in same category as PS2 (of course the Wii U is somewhat stronger, but it belongs to the same generation if you catch what I mean?).

          • Andrew Chambers

The fact that cryengine 3 ‘runs beautifully’ on the Wii u yet frostbite 2 can’t just proves how inferior it is.

          • Magnus Eriksson

No, EA tried and it couldnt handle it because it had to few shaders.

          • Andrew Chambers

I’d like you to show me a legitimate article that actually states that Frostbite 2 doesn’t run on the Wii U because”it doesn’t have enough shaders.” It was stated that Frostbite 2 didn’t run with promising results, which would be expected with a straight un-optimized test. I find it highly unlikely that Frostbite 2 requires more “shaders” then Cryengine 3 or Chameleon.

Oh, I feel like I should point out that shaders are part of a program, not part of hardware.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Sorry, but you are clearly wrong there…

          • Andrew Chambers

Which part? The part about you not giving a source? Well you didn’t, you sent me an article stating a ‘source’ (not listed as DICE, or anyone for that matter) saying the Wii U doesn’t have enough shaders and a twitter feed saying that FB2 had unfavorable results when tested, but no reason was given.

Or are you telling me that I was wrong in saying that Frostbite is not more complex and requires more APIs then CE3 or Chemeleon?

Or was it the last part? Do you think that shaders are some magical chip put inside of consoles?

          • Nathaniel Lopez

Yeah, I know what you’re getting at. I could have sworn that I’ve read an article or something saying that they got Frostbite 3 running on a Wii U console, but that EA decided to stop supporting the Wii U. This was a while back though, so my memory is a bit “iffy”. Regardless, I really wouldn’t mind if 3rd party devs decided to port the game anyways, albeit with a loss in graphics department. I don’t blame them though for not releasing it, graphics is reigning supreme in gaming nowadays….oh wait. What am I saying, I thought the Wii U was much more advanced than the PS3/360.

          • Alexander Kleinwechter

But Wii U should have more shaders then ps3 and xbox 360 has, because the Wii U is a newer console

      • Arthur Jarret

I thought the DS game sold a lot better than the PSP version, which exclusive games got ps2 ports to get some profit… I’m sure it sold a lot better than GTA advanced – or the GBC ports of the first two games.

As for Bully… it did sell double on xbox (1mil vs 0.5mil – odd as this was the buggy version with graphical glitches – while the wii version was deemed best by most reviewers)

But the PC version only sold a measly 20K, so that would probably mean a PC version of GTA V will not happen, right?

        • Arthur Jarret

          Additional info:

Grand theft auto Chinatown wars did 1.27 million on DS vs. 0.97 on PSP, outselling Pokemon ranger guardian signs, chrono trigger, diddy kong racing DS, Mario vs Donkey kong 2, Sonic colors, Sonic rush adventure and a lot of other games I recognize that could prove my point.

Despite it being outsold by Imagine wedding designer, disney princesses, gardening mamma and hello kitty party…

Yes, list B outsold list A.
          Something is wrong with gaming…
My sense doesn’t make world anymore.

          • ICHI

Now let’s go back to that building thingy where our beds and tv………..is

          • Magnus Eriksson

You have an impressive knowledge of videogames. Ive noticed it before too.

          • Arthur Jarret

Thanks Magnus, I play and buy a lot of them – These hard numbers are googled, though – as I do want to fact-check anything I post I’m not 100% on before making any possibly false claims.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Hehe, I cant say I do that :D

      • CMB

        I thought it sold well?

        • Agent721

It sold horribly, which is why it went Ipad real quick. I own & have followed TTWO stock for years. Forget the rest of the yahoos on here, the reason rockstar isnt on a Nintendo system is its games dont sell well on their systems. Its a great game though, one of the best ever put out on the DS.

    • Jon Turner

There WERE talks about bringing GTAV to WiiU. Personally, I don’t know anymore than you do, but there ARE rumors of a PC port coming. That will probably spell to eventual mulitplat. WiiU included. Now this is just speculation.

    • Martijn Plasmans

There is a chance that it’s coming.

But, the small installed base of the Wii U is not helping with that.

  • Jared Garcia

i’d rather just be able to connect with friends. it’s alsways an error with the server and cant connect to the host.

  • Ducked

When will Nintendo improve there online gaming?

  • Thomas Fitzgibbon

Are they going to improve the game’s dreadful load times?

    • ICHI

Hopefully the Wii u system update due in a few weeks will help a little with that too.

  • ICHI

Yay! This game is great on-line but tonight I had two games go tits up due to lag and with the loading times being so long I just gave up.

  • ChildrenoftheNIN

Well at least there doing something to hopefully fix the issues in this game i love the singleplayer just wish i could get a match in multiplayer and i have everything open and in dmz and i have had the freezing issue twice its annoying as hell

  • leo

It’s nice to see us get supported.

  • Mason742

More like shutting off 99% of the Wii U servers.

  • Corey Goodson

I use my Nokia Lumia as my hotspot/ access point, and this game is the only one I ever have issues with. Tekken works, D&D works, Disney infinity works, everything EXCEPT this. Hopefully this will change that.

  • Antar Rodríguez

lets hope this ends some of the mayor problems when playing online

  • Martijn Plasmans

    Who cares… GTA V ! ;-)

    • Arthur Jarret

Yup, GTA V came out – PS3 version is best (better ground textures) – no other game news today.
