Official Super Mario 3D World box art leaked, arrives November 22nd

The official box art for Super Mario 3D World has leaked, giving us a look at what to expect in November when the game is released.

super_mario_3d_world_boxart_sneak_peak-222x300

It looks like Nintendo Everything has run across the real box art for Super Mario 3D World, which until now has only seen fan renditions. It’s interesting to note that the box art shows the Nintendo Network logo at the top right, despite the game not including online multiplayer. The game will be released on November 22nd for $59.99.

What do you think of the box art? The image is a bit hazy because it had to be blown up to see better, but expect a larger image soon.

I can’t wait for this game, Super Mario 3d land was a great game.

    • Ernie Sanguyo

I didn’t get to play super mario 3d land since i dont have 3ds. But I do have Wii u and rdy for 3d world. Hope someday i get to play it because not only 3d land I want to play on 3ds. Links between world too.

      • Sdudyoy

Yeah I don’t have a 3DS but my little brothers have one so I played it on there’s I’m saving up for a 2DS now.

        • Ernie Sanguyo

I would love to have 2ds or 3ds but for now I’m saving up for upcoming games for Wii U. Wind waker HD, 3d world and many more I want to buy. Plus black friday hoping to get a good deal items for sure.

          • http://rmscomics.com/ Steelmullet

It’s cool some ppl are interested in the 2DS. According to everyone on the interwebs the 2DS is a huuuuge mistake, Nintendo didn’t blah blah blah. Whatever. Haha. Like I said, cool.

        • Nintendo4life

          3Dland was a awesome game

        • Marcus Navarro

Unless you want a 3DS XL, a regular 3DS costs just about the same as a 2DS, I believe.

          • Paul

            40 dollars less

          • LoZ4life98

The 2DS really doesn’t look all that bad in my eyes. The only thing I would worry about is how it really feels to hold. Other than that, seems to be just as good as a 3DS.

          • Paul

Here’s the thing tho…3d land is one of the titles that rly benefited from the 3d effect… Which won’t be on the 2ds obviously. Still will be fun…but I’d go for the 3ds myself.

          • Nintendo4life

            Wrong 3ds is 169.99..2ds 129.99

      • Kholby

It’s worth it to buy it. It’s a fantastic Mario game. Simply Fantastic! So challenging and so fun!

        • Ernie Sanguyo

I can tell that and thx for telling me that it’s worth buying it. I’ll definately get it for sure but for now WW HD is waiting for me :)

  • SonicLucario

Looks nice reminds me of the 3DS box art but better :)

  • SleepySkullhead

The Network logo might refer to Miiverse access.

    • Arthur Jarret

And maybe time trials similar to Mario 3D land’s streetpass function… but hopefully with actual leaderboards this time.

      • Pikachief

It may also be there for future plans of DLC. Mario games as of late have been recieving some very nice DLC.

        • Mason742

not super mario 3d land though :/

  • Jon

why does blue toad only get himself once…. Unless I am blind cannot see the second one… Mario, Luigi and Peach are on that box twice, No love for toad :P

    lol

*Edit* ok, I am blind. I see him now, I though he was a blue looking house XD

    • Arthur Jarret

You’re blind – he’s on the bottom right!

    • 00EpicGamer00

There’s two Toads…one’s at the top and one’s at the bottom in a cat suit.

    • Ernie Sanguyo

Toad is there twice. Look at the bottom right. It’s a small blue cat.

  • Tim van Broekhoven

    Looks great :)

  • Denison Guizelini

The price is not right…. arrghh

    • Arthur Jarret

      59,99 in stores…

39,99 at online retailers. (plus 2,50 in shipping and handling)

    • Fred

the price is right for me. Day 1 download here

  • Kenny Mathews

Am I the only one who wonders why cat mario is not red?
Really looking forward to this game!!!$$

    • C4

      “Red” cats _are_ yellow / orange-ish :)

      • jay

        and “Green” cats_are_green :)

  • 00EpicGamer00

The only thing I’m still confused about is, how will Bowser fit into this game?

    • Arthur Jarret

      Maybe he kidnapped Yoshi?

I actually hope they have Wart returning as a boss – and have mauser and birdo return as enemies. I mean, bob-ombs and birdo (in sport games) have become part of the mario series since 2-USA, why not the other guys?

I was actually expecting Wart to make at least a cameo in Mario & Luigi Dream Team… such a missed opportunity…

      • C4

Don’t forget to tell people Wart isn’t Bowser ._.

        • Arthur Jarret

          You’re right!

PEOPLE: WART IS NOT – I REPEAT, IS NOT – BOWSER!

The difference is the sub-species. Both are reptiles, but one is a fire-breathing dragon who sadly can’t fly without a clown car and kidnaps a princess because she is the only one who can use her magic to turn back the kingdoms residents, who have been changed into the brick blocks mario cruelly breaks (it’s in the NES games’ manual! It’s canon!).

Oddly, he never kills her so he can rule the kingdom – although this might be some kind of reversed stockholm syndrome, as he has expressed intents to marry the girl – despite having several children (with someone?) of his own. He’s also a good loser, despite getting his ass handed to him time and time again by a plumber, of all things – he never refuses an invite to go karting with him and his brother.

Wart, on the other hand, is a huge toad who is allergic for vegetables. To avoid them, he has trained mice to run around with highly volatile bombs. He is also a ‘brilliant’ strategist – having his weakest troups fly around on a magic carpet near the huge chasm that naturally protects his land from invaders.

          • BIG Franky

            best. comment. ever.

          • JB

Haha you win the internet for today. When you put it in that way, those Nintendo folks have very vivid imaginations!

          • Arthur Jarret

And some people complain the mario games have no story!

    • Kriskura

Simply by trying to conqueer the Mushroom Kingdom?

      • 00EpicGamer00

        …..Very true.

  • Clel

    Love it!

Is November 22nd only US? Does anyone know when it will come to EU?

  • https://twitter.com/Onyzora Ony

So many games at the end of the year, and nearly no-time for playing :’(

  • Razo_E

Love it. My wife and daughter always play along with me until the very end. Currently we’re hooked on Pikmin 3, before that, WarioWare, before that Super Luigi U, before that Mario Kart, before that Smash Bros……….

    • Magnus Eriksson

Im getting this for my family too. :)

      • Zombie Boy

I’m getting it for ME :)

        • Arthur Jarret

          Egoist!

          • Arthur Jarret

            … I’m… uhm… getting it for my cat, myself…

          • Zombie Boy

            Lol!

        • Magnus Eriksson

Yeah, thats actually what I do too. But I will trick my wife to think that its for my daughter. Have to spread out the games a bit :)

          • Zombie Boy

I might let the missus have a go if she asks nicely…

          • Nintendo4life

            Good idea!

          • Magnus Eriksson

Yeah, otherwise it will be difficult to explain why I need W101, Zelda WW, DKCRF, Mario Kart, Mario 3D at one same time :) Blame it on the kids :D

          • JB

            Seems legit! :-)

          • Nintendo4life

Yeah or tell her you won some money

          • Magnus Eriksson

Yeah right… Hey baby! I won some money, going to spend them on videogames… She would kill me off in a second.

          • http://ejercitogeek.net/ Mercurio2054

            hahahahahahahahaha… i do that with some games…

      • Katanegama

This is it. This is why I’m getting the Wii U. Nintendo focuses more towards family. While other system focus on friends/online multiplayer.

        • Magnus Eriksson

Then its perfect for you :)

    • Wayne Beck

Like most people, I was skeptical of this game at first. But then I remembered how ridiculously fun simultaneous Multiplayer 2D Mario is in New Super Mario Bros. Wicked excited for this now. It’s gonna be a blast.

      • Elem187

The game has nothing to do with 2D mario.. I wish people would stop comparing the two. They look nothing alike. It also looks nothing like the 3DS Land game.
Its a stand alone game, and according the brilliant director behind SMG1/2 its the culmination of all 3D mario games… He deserves the benefit of the doubt. If he says its the very best 3D Mario game ever made, I’ll believe him until I’m proved otherwise by my own two eyes.

        • Kriskura

If it doesn’t look like 3D Land, why do they clearly said it’s based on it then?… Moreover, on Iwata Ask about 3D Land, they justly said they wanted to make a game which is a mix between 2D and 3D Mario games to make the link they didn’t made between the 2D and 3D to easily introduce some persons in the 3D formula. It is a standalone, yeah, but clearly inspired from the two others kind of Mario plateformers. A “great culmination” of ancients 3D Mario games, maybe not, since it’s not construct in the same way, but I think it’s surely more like a new franchise in the Mario series with a new kind of 3D plateformer which began with 3D Land :)

          • disqus_sgtob6da3X

            Director direct

Hidden secrets to 3D world by Gamexplain

          • Elitepwnsface

I like the idea he has at 7:00. I think that would be cool to go through a level without being able to jump to try and get all the stars.

          • disqus_sgtob6da3X

Apparently according to Gamexplain there’s a lot more then just a sequel to 3D land.

          • Kriskura

As I said, they justly said in that video that this is greatly inspired from Mario 3D Land and that they added new ideas, which surely mean they added new elements of gameplay/ennemies, environments, etc based on the 3DLand formula to do improvements on it, and they also said that they primarly wanted to do a multiplayer game and thought that 3D Land formula was the most adapted for that :)

About the Green Stasr, actually, they are camouflaged Star Medals, and not your objective that ends the levels after you explored and travel a bit around the stages before you got it like in SM64/SMS/SMG1/2 formula and then, as I said, since it’s not construct in the same way as these games, it’s maybe not a “great culmination” of them, but an improvement over the new formula and new franchise introduced in 3D Land (which they explained that more or less was a new franchise in 3D Land Iwata Ask).

After all, we have to not forget that they’re also here for marketing with these videos and make the game sell too, not just show some novelties and inspirations, so they’ll always praise it the more they can for their objectives and then, logically and in a marketing point of view, even if it could be the case, none of them will say that they prefer the ancient games over this one on these videos, we also have to take that into account.

Moreover, Koizumi hinted he was working on another game and said that there will have annoucements he cannot reveal now, and since he mostly works on 3D Marios (mainly as producer or director), there’s some chances that they MAYBE have another Mario game like SM64/SMS/SMG behind (hypothetically of course) :)

          • disqus_sgtob6da3X

Uh… I didnt say you were wrong.

          • Kriskura

Aaah, did you mean “Your answers right here from the Director himself.” that it was explained in these videos? I’m not english native and can have understanding or speaking problems, I didn’t understood in that way if it was the case, sorry ><

Anyway, even if you didn't said I was wrong, I think I'm not forcefully right either, it's mostly hypothesis and I find interesting to share differents point of view and develop them, so not everybody have to agree.

          • disqus_sgtob6da3X

Oh ok. Sorry about I just the put video to show Elem187 that you were correct on what the director did say about 3D land being inspired into 3D World, but also many other Mario games as well.

Anyway to the point, to me whether it’s another sequel to any good game or another Mario game I’m still buying this game. Looking forward to the 4player co-op.

        • Wayne Beck

I actually did not mean to imply that it looks anything like a 2D Mario. Personally, I think it looks much more like Mario64 minus the overworld. I only mention 2D Mario because that is the only place where we have seen simultaneous multiplayer in a Mario Game and it worked incredibly well.

It is my honest belief that, regardless of whether or not this game is intended to be a truly innovative game or just a hold over, the true purpose of this game is to demonstrate the ability to implement simultaneous multiplayer in a 3D Mario game for use in a future, decidedly more bold, 3D Mario game.

          • TCar

Technically, every game is 2D. We only get the illusion of depth.

          • Arthur Jarret

            Gyro on NES was 3D…

          • Wayne Beck

3D means Three Dimensions. Dimensions do not need to be tangible. The “illusion of depth” is actually just depth. If you can perceive a dimension, it exists. So technically, every video game is 3D.

          • TCar

Yet if you put your hand on the tv, there is no depth. You get the illusion of depth. We live in a 3D world but all games take place on a flat surface with that illusion of depth. So although it is depth, it isn’t a “real” sense of depth in that we can’t use our other senses, such as touch, to know the depth.

          • Sqarticus

            Being this stupid…

          • TCar

What? There is a difference between true 3D and artificial 3D. How is that stupid?

          • Kriskura

I also think it’s the purpose of this game to show and give a multiplayer 3D Mario game :)
But there’s also on the internet a mod available to play Super Mario 64 in a “two player coop” multiplayer mode, and is still a lot of fun too! But I guess that it wouldn’t be as easy to play with 4 persons instead of 2 on the SM64/SMS formula since it’s really open levels ^^

          • Elem187

Its that simultaneous multiplayer in a 3D Mario game is what will make it the most innovative 3D Mario game to date. IMO, that is far more innovative than adding anti-gravity levels in the Galaxy games…. which is hard for me to say because the two galaxy games have became my top two favorite games of all time. But I will give the games’ director the benefit of the doubt when he says its better than all of the 3D Mario games to date.
Plus, we only saw a small snapshot of 6 levels out of a 100+ planned levels in this Mario game. We won’t know the true level of innovation until we get a hands on feel of all the new gameplay mechanics they are planning on stuffing into this title. I think the Galaxy games added by far the most new gameplay mechanics we have every seen introduced in any game.

        • Martijn Plasmans

No sir, its a part of the Super mario 3d series. So a successor to Super mario 3d Land.

          • Elem187

No, its a stand alone game according the game’s director Koichi Hayashida. In fact he is calling it a culmination of ALL 3D Mario games, including 64, Sunshine and the Galaxy series… Not once did he ever refer to it as a sequel to 3D Land.
Links or it didn’t happen…. and links to NeoGAF are not credible.

          • Guest

        • Ryan Butler

It looks exactly like 3D land. Like, it was in development for 3DS but moved it to Wii U since it needed a boost.

          • Elem187

Care to give us a link? NeoGAF isn’t a credible source on anything.

    • Playstation One U

“WII U HAS NO GAMES” sarcasm

      • Donaald

Yeah, it’s like I put a disc on my Wii U and suddenly I’m playing but there’s no game on it :S

        • Merrfn

Was it an EA game? Because thats normal.

          • Donaald

lol I think it was Sniper Elite.

  • Merrfn

Looks fantastic. Bright and colourful. I also like the emphasis on 3D, shown by the arrangement of characters and items in the box art.

  • ronaldco91

    I. Gotta. Pre-order. NOW.

    • Fred

I’d be with you if I wasn’t a digital only Wii U owner

  • david jarman

    Meow! Meow!

  • Pikachief

I actually think this box art looks fantastic! :D

  • Htbaa

A bit crowded maybe, but I like it.

  • Nintendo4life

    Awesome…Nuff said!

  • JB

The box art is pretty cool.. I’m more excited about the content than I am the packaging. Though I wonder if that’s a sound business decision to release this on the same street date as the Xbox One? Are they banking on the strength of their IP? The fact that the XB1/PS4 will be sold out? Or maybe they think the XB1 won’t sell very well? A mixture of all that?

  • Elem187

“Nintendo Network logo at the top right, despite the game not including online multiplayer. ”
Because the game interacts with MiiVerse… Online multiplayer isn’t the only way to use the Nintendo Network. Anytime a game contacts and communicates with Nintendo’s servers you will see that emblem on the box going forward.

    • Levi Johansen

Online leaderboards maybe, in the future

  • Madmagican

Wait, what’s that little text box above the E rating?

  • Mochlum

I’m hoping the NN logo is hinting at online mutltiplayer…

  • lwlshintalwl

I like the box art but I am sad that is releasing when I am returning from a trip to the US

  • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

Consumers will never buy this. They wont want a game with two marios in it. Theres a normal one and a cat one. It will be too confusing for my kids and no adults will play it. Wii U will fail.

I could see this being said. More or less

    • Marcus Navarro

Welp, judging by the Wii U name confusion, 2DS confusion, 1DS trolling effectiveness, typical lack of awareness of other parts of the planet from Americans(I’m American and I approve my own message)…
      You might be right.

This holiday season going to be nuts!

  • http://www.youtube.com/azhood321 AZHood

The Nintendo Network logo doesn’t necessarily mean online multiplayer. NSMBU has it, ZombiU, Nintendo Land… many games have it there.

  • MujuraNoKamen

Looks good and the game is going to be great but “not including online multiplayer” WTF!? Nintendo decided to go against the Galaxy/64-esque game that everyone asked for (fine, new is good) and started to make a multiplayer Multiplayer Mario Game (fantastic) only to not make it fully multiplayer (online mode) what’s that everyone said about them rushing games?

  • Googs

It looks so chaotic. Looks good though :)

  • CaesarGood

Here comes Mario Teletubbies 3D World…The only character who should be in a cat suit is Peaches and they all should be chasing her with Bowser trying to save her. What is the story/plot of this game anyway?

    • Marcus Navarro

*sigh* How many of you must flood this site with your non-creative bashing? If you’re gonna be negative, be sarcastic or make it hilarious to watch you getting destroyed, please?

      • CaesarGood

Really? I am actually a Mario fan who just happened to noticed the similarities between the cat suit and teletubbies, and I don’t really like it. Therefore, I would of been more enticed to get the game had the cat suit never been used.

        • Agent721

Get real. Suits have been part of mario games since the 80s & well before the teletubies were even thought up. You must’ve watched A LOT of teletubies as a kid to even think of that.

          • CaesarGood

How bout u STFU u blind incompetent muthafucka, are u dumb I know all about Mario. Get off my nutts go get in a corner and cry just because I don’t like the cat suit SUCKA..This aint Batman..

        • 00EpicGamer00

“I would of been more enticed to get the game had the cat suit never been used.”

….So, don’t use the cat suits. I’m pretty sure the cat suits aren’t required at all in the game. Maybe you’d just have to actually use it for a boss. But other than that, the cat suit is probably a optional thing, like most of the power ups in Mario. And besides, what do you have against the cat suits anyway? You a cat hater?

  • Ducked

Having the ESRB rating in two different languages in so annoying

  • Jeffrey Debris

It’s absolutely lovely and so will the game be! I’m very excited about Nintendo’s 2nd half year releases :D

  • Agent721

This is the game Im most excitted for on the Wii U this year. Screw the haters, this looks like pure Nintendo gold to me!

  • Elitepwnsface

I like the split between the kitty-kataroos on the bottom and just the Characters on the top. I just hope this has a new game unlock like the 3ds game had. Basically doubling the levels.

  • http://rmscomics.com/ Steelmullet

Game looks awesome. It’s always nice to rely on the Big N’s games, especially when it comes to fun gameplay.

  • devmiles

i’m sure it’s going to be a good game but not the best mario game, i already read that the demo’s looked so much like mario 3d land for 3ds despite the fact is has other elements but it might be a good reason to buy a wii-u although it’s extreme lack of good games.

  • Aleks

Odd, the level glorification of a single power-up. How cool can a cat suit really be? Apparently cool enough that IT is the big deal. I dunno, i’m wary. I’m in cuz it’s Mario, but c’mon. 7 different animal costume power-ups would be epic and worth such attention, but one?

  • only god can judge me

Boxcover looks great. This will be a great birthday present for me being that it launches on my birthday november 22 and being that my fiance is a huge mario fan I assume she’ll have tons of fun as well.

  • Joey

    Awesome cannot wait….

  • Smartass2

So many great games coming out this year.

  • Anthony K Aurelia

It has the logo because of Miiverse…uses the network.

  • Is_Mort

60 bucks is a bit much for a 3ds upscale.

    • Guest

      so is your mama

    • Adderell

That’s the issue, it isn’t an upscale.

  • Sharingan

    Can’t wait.

  • Guest

Mr. Iawata need too slow down the release of games, I don’t have enough spare time for all this!!

    • Arthur Jarret

      I know, right?

    • 00EpicGamer00

I find it ironic how WAYYYY back, people were complaining on how the Wii U “had no games.” Now people are complaining that there’s too many xD. It makes me proud on how quick Nintendo was to bring the Wii U’s success back. Now, I realize we aren’t completely out of the woods yet, but the future is looking bright to me :)

  • NintendoMan

Can you update the Super Mario 3D World page to show that the release date is November 22? Can you also do that with DKCTF but with December 6?

  • David John Gifford

I don’t like this game that much. Here’s why: Super Mario 64 – first 3d mario game- revolutionary and a masterpiece. Super Mario Sunshine – good game, voiced characters, shows the power of GameCube.Super Mario Galaxy – a perfect game, highest rated game ever, revolutionary and a truly masterpiece (great graphics, great gameplay, good story for a Mario game, awesome soundtrack, awesome level designs and themes). Super Mario Galaxy 2 – As the first one, awesome.

AND now Super Mario 3D World for HD console with a unique controller Wii U… missed opportunity. Really, tell me what 3D world has to offer? Multiplayer that’s not even online! Childish boring music that’s not AWESOME like Gusty Garden Galaxy music or others. Not so interesting level design and world themes (it’s just repeating like NSMB series), in other words, nothing new. Graphics from a handheld console FOR A HD CONSOLE!? This game will be a failure, it will not be a system seller like the others DID, maybe it will sell well, like… 3 million copies? Pathetic…. I just hope the new Zelda Wii U will be alright…

Yeah it is a let down compared to mario first outing on the other nintendo consoles and it makes the first 2 mario games released complete rehash of others but there still fun to play nevertheless, lets just hope they have a true successor to galaxy in the works

The point of titles like this is to hold folks over until that title is done. Can you really expect a title of Galaxy’s caliber to release so soon? That’d be the same as showing your hand to all of the other players at the table.

No just that when the n64 relesed it was with mario 64, gamecube got sunshine within 9 months and galaxy came out within the year for wii. I just feel that a game that is a reshaped 3ds game, no matter how good it maybe and no doubt I will have fun playing just isn’t the mario ive been waiting for

    • Adderell

Have you played the game yet? Do you know how it will honestly be? Seriously, gamers complain about things they don’t even have to buy.

  • springer85

LMFAO!!!!!Nearly the exact same box art as Mario on the 3DS and this game is just a REHASH of the same 3DS game!!!
Seriously all Nintendo do is keep the same game, change a bridge and passage here and there and stick HD at the end and act like its a brand new game!!

You can’t deny that Mario games are still fun… which is the point of a game.

I think they should reserve the “3D” for the 3DS titles……but that’s just my thoughts….and here lately I have been getting blasted for voicing my thoughts and opinions…so that’s all i’m gonna say on that

  • hammy

They should of just left regular Mario, lawege, peach, toad
instead of both with cat because there already cat tail in the title.

Personally I would rather them try to make it competitve and also be played co-operativly instead of making it co–operative that can be played competitive

Even the cover looks fun! This will be one of the best mario games ever!

Nintendo should make online multiplayer on all their games! :(
