New Super Smash Bros. screenshot shows a different perspective

ssb-mega

Today’s daily image from the Super Smash Bros. website has an interesting perspective to it. We see Mega Man standing and facing the Wii Fit trainer in the Skyloft setting, but it’s from a new angle. The Miiverse update that comes along with this screenshot from Masahiro Sakurai is even more cryptic, stating, “An encounter in the middle of a marathon..?”

The shot is certainly interesting and hopefully we’ll hear more about the game in a Nintendo Direct soon.

I like how they kept the games graphics instead of making it super HD and ruining the art style.

    • Elitepwnsface

Its cool but i feel its kinda lazy. But each his own.

      • Baum 「ツリー」

It’s not lazy. The Artstyle itself just isn’t that detailed ^^
I like it that way and to be honest: some Arena in Brawl like the PictoChat or the WarioWare stage weren’t as detailed as for example the Metroid stages either.

        • Anthony Franqui

I know right? The Donkey Kong stage in Brawl wasn’t lazy even though it was 8 bits I’m guessing.

        • Elitepwnsface

I just feel its copy and pasted that is all.

    • Johny

only in this level tho… i guess they wanted to keep skyloft’s wii look, instead of detailing it up to a point it doesn’t look that much like skyloft.
looking at this lvl makes it look kinda lazy tho :/

    • Nicolas Dorion

Uhm I don’t know about you but Megaman doesnt look really 8-bit here… The wii fit trainer has a higher resolution and skyloft would look a lot better if it had more detailled texture

    • greengecko007

How is pixel count related to art style?

    • [000]

It still looks miles better though because it’s been re-rendered in 1080p. Same everything, but everything displays nicely without a bunch of aliasing.

  • SGTMAR

    Tag team race

  • Baum 「ツリー」

    1. The angle isn’t really Special…It’s possible to do the same in Brawl and I think even in Melee (not sure though since I didn’t Play it since 2003 or so)
    2. The message wasn’t cryptic…he just referred to the Wii Fit Trainer “Jogging” through the stage :D

  • AAAkabob

Those are some nice graphics for a game focused on crazy fast paced action

  • Nintendo4life

    This looks awesome

      Fail.

    • Andreas Sunde

He’s probably busy over at the TechCrunch Speaks Nintendoom article.

      • ScrewAttack

That TechCrunch article gave me cancer.

    • Rukiafan Rukiachan

Yeha, trolls are in full force here in this site.

  • SonicLucario

A bit weird but interesting still, the only real problem I can see fighting in this perspective is not being able to see was coming after you from above or behind you fast enough

  • The_fuzz_buzz

I’m sure it’s just a cinema type thing. Like when then characters would enter in Brawl. Just just a little more advanced.

    • Jesus Eduardo Lara Ortiz

Great to know i’m not the only one that thought about that, I really wonder how Characters entrances will differ from Brawl.

  • DingoWalley

To me, this might mean that the stages will actually be 100% completed, instead of only completed from the Front like in Smash Bros, Melee and Brawl. So, if you hack the game, you can actually see that it is fully made instead of being like a card-board cut out.

    • rp17

Why would they put in that much more work for no one but hackers to see?

  • Johny

lol.. seriously? you could do that in like… ANY ssb game… just pause and change the angle.. it doesn’t mean anything guys…

    • http://rmscomics.com/ Steelmullet

And you could make some hilarious movies with them too.

      • Johny

indeed. there is tons of amazing stuff of that on youtube :)

  • Sdudyoy

I can’t wait for this game!

  • Yousif Alromaithi

I think Smash Bros 4 will be the evolution series much like brawl even though hater does not acknowledge that. Just give the guy a rest and don’t piss him off like how fans Pissed kamiya on starfox.

    • Pikachief

Yea an evolution of the series like taking out things like subspace emissary and possibly bringing back harder to unlock characters and stages to expand the re-playability of solo play. (A.K.A. Make it not brawl.)

      • Yousif Alromaithi

look they may take Subspace Emissary. You may be one of the guys that tried Brawl but never tried Melee or the original Smash Bros. The first Smash Bros had no adventure mode except classic . Melee expanded the original and so did Brawl. Melee introduced events and adventure mode while Brawl introduced Subspace Emissary. You guys need to clam down since the fourth one would introduce something new much like what Brawl had and even better perspective. Brawl got higher than melee simply put because it was better. Melee got higher than the original because it was better. They are trying to innovate the series so let them do their job. You guys are pissing Sakurai so please just stop bothering him in twitter or on the media because you are just saying to him that you do not know what you are doing and he clearly does. I have no doubt the new one would deliver much like brawl delivered and Melee delivered a better perspective from the original. Just wait and see because in the end you will believe that Nintendo was never wrong in the first place.

      • Hector

in fact, they will not take out the story mode, they said it will be different, the no story mode was a mistranslation

  • Anthony Franqui

I can tell A LOT of you guys in the comments section are new to Smash brothers. This is a feature that has been in the games since brawl.

  • Starfoxguy

This is probably the pause screen just without the frame. Since you could move the camera around then.

  • discuss

    Skyward Sword level :o!

  • Mark

Mega Man is going to be the best! Hopefully he isn’t a heavy character; I usually play the medium to light ones.

  • Dell Goodman

Tbh, this doesn’t look like a new fighting angle. It looks more like an introduction angle. Like ‘Mega Man! verses….’ a small cut scene of him running to the arena, then waiting and watching on who’s his opponent is. That’s my guess on this single image.

  • Marcel Kleine

this only proves the owners of this website didn’t play the previous smash games

  • Daniel Carvalho

Maybe now we can give a 360º pan with the pause camera, instead of the 180º from the previous games. That would be awesome!

    • rp17

As someone who hacks brawl stages, they are usually just black in areas that the camera is not supposed to see. So that would just mean they would have double the work on stages to get a full 360, without any real improvement to gameplay mechanics. In others words a lot more work for a very minimal improvement.

      PS I’d be neat though.

      • Jesus Eduardo Lara Ortiz

There is one stage in Brawl that isn’t black, try the Mario Kart Stage, you can see racers on the other side xD

        • rp17

Yeah I know. You can see that in Mewtwo2000’s alternative Mario Circuit.

  • Madmagican

Well the angle’s nothing new and probably means absolutely nothing
But if we REALLY wanted to make brash assumptions I could say Sakurai is introducing fighting on a 3D plane or a native 360 camera

  • Srpg2ishere

I’m pretty sure this is an angle where you pause the game and then turn it around. Eh. Maybe they gave us the option to turn the camera angle even more than in the previous games.

  • Sora Morp

    ……………………………………………………

  • devmiles

i don’t care so much about screenshots or nintendo directs, before you know it the game gets postponed again etc, they just need to hurry their asses with the product.. and i don’t need screenshots or nintendo directs…all fuzz over a screenshot…, dude

    • Mario

Ahhhh! But remember: “A rushed game isn’t always a good game”. Huh? Heard it somewhere? From a certain person? Besides me? Someone very well known? Very wise?

  • longschlongsilver

Kind of makes me wonder what nintendo could do with a 3D Megaman game.

    • TaintedXGamer

I want that to happen as we all know what Crapcom did to 2-3 megaman games that got AXED

  • Daniel Gonzalez

This is about the only game that I’d want on the Wii U at the moment.

    • sd

Next year looks great. This, Mario Kart, X, Bayonetta 2 , yarn yoshi and a couple of others. I just hope the Wii U lifts its game over the holiday and survives. If sales stay as they are until March many gamers will avoid buying a Wii U as the system will be assumed dead. Negativity breeds negativity. Poor sales will compound further poor sales.

Zelda WW will be the first true test. Sales should rocket. If not….hmmmm Nintendo needs to be selling above 100k a week to stay in the game. At present sales increased to around 30k…

      • Elem187

But the majority of the market doesn’t follow gaming news… There will be a lot of parents buying the new Mario/Console this holiday… when the picky ‘core’ gamers see sales improve a bit the broader audience will be open to it.
But it doesn’t matter how well it sells. Nintendo will support the system all by themelves if they have to.

        • sd

Yes I said this in another post. Sales at christmas will go to parents and families. The question is do they want to replace their wii with a Wii U. Or are they after a different present.

          • Mario

Let’s just hope parents don’t get confused. Many couldn’t tell the difference between a WiiU and a Wii (my parents can’t see the difference yet) and others believed that the WiiU is just a Wii with a new accessory.

Let’s just hope the majority (with the exception of my parents) had seen the difference as of now.

          • sd

Lets hope Nintendo advertise the games and console. Gamers are aware of what a Wii U is but the general public is not. That’s a shame. I still do not understand Nintendo’s plan. Surely mass advertising is the key. They need to advertise Zelda and the Wii U before the public become wrapped up in the X-1 and PS4.

  • RockieOllie

wii fit trainer is going to tell Mega man about Mighty No. 9

    • Elem187

Wii Fit Trainer runs up to the blue bomber …. “Sire, rebel forces are trying to clone you outside the reach of the Kingdom of Capcom. shall we send reinforcements of seize and desist lawyers?”

      • RockieOllie

        Lol!

      • Jelle Knibbe

‘negative. I don’t want to see this kingdom stable, and my father’ll definetly help bring it down.’

  • zerooooo

Since when is it any hype that the devs used the pause angle screenshot and add a little joke? Just stop posting smash news you know nothing on it…

  • TaintedXGamer

Wii fit trainer and megaman…… there’s gonna be romance……XD

  • mikeyfresh

They do the same thing with Injustice character trailers. It’s a 2D fighting stage, but the videos show different camera angles.

  • http://jameshollan.1apps.com/_____1_/jameshollan/index.html Koudai2008

I’ve never played any of the Smash Bros. games, but I’ve heard lots of good things about them.

In regards to the camera angle in the picture, could it not be a new camera angle option in the game? Kind of like how in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 you could go into options and change the camera angle.

  • Alex

    Good N64 !

    • Baum 「ツリー」

go and watch Skyward Sword Videos…it’s the damn style of the game, not poor graphics…

    • Jelle Knibbe

Yes, because the game is definetly always SO up-close…

  • That dude

I’m kinda disappointed ,this game really doesn’t look that good.
