The Wonderful 101 launch trailer is as crazy as always

The game hits the store shelves tomorrow, and Nintendo has released the final launch trailer.

The Wonderful 101, known in Japan as Za Wandafuru Wan Ō Wan (seriously) release is just around the corner, in fact, it officially hits the store shelves in North America tomorrow. Nintendo has released the final Wii U launch trailer of this crazy superhero game. And as expected, there’s plenty of cool, fast paced action, showing the colorful gameplay and its characters.

Despite being an original IP and a fresh idea for the Wii U, the Wonderful 101 hasn’t been doing well in Japan. During its first week, it sold a meager 5,000 copies. Sales in Europe have been better, and hopefully they’ll pick up in North America. What do you think of The Wonderful 101 so far, and will you be getting the game? Let us know in the comments section!

  • Saleh Sbeiti

I hope this game sells well, but in all honesty, I don’t see that happening. Maybe, but probably not.

    • Merrfn

Yeah, I know what you mean. Doesn’t look like it has a bright future.

      • Mario

        I refuse to believe that!

        • Merrfn

Believe what you like. The game is great, but it looks like it will struggle especially seeing as it is a new IP.

          • Mario

Will see once the game is released!

    • disqus_sgtob6da3X

Well people that went to Pax and such were able to buy the game early and I saw a lot of people willing to support Kamiya. So It’ll probably be better than Japan as Europe did do better.

      • Hinaru

Just another reason for lack of 3rd party supoort.

        • Nel

I still hope it’ll do ok gere in the Us. Kamiya and PG made this exclusive and it really is a great game despite the demo.

  • NintendoNoob

As much as I like this I don’t think many people will like it. Since most people will think this is “Corny” they wont consider buying the game D:
I like it but I think it would’ve been better with a little darker art style

    • Merrfn

I like the game for it’s “corny” aspect. I hate it when something is a little corny, but I like it when something is meant to be corny. Well, to the best of my knowledge W101 was supposed to be corny…

  • Kirbyomega

It looked cool until the creator said it would be short. I want a game I can play for a looong time

    • Louie

The wonderful 101 story will take around 15 hours to complete.
The Hideki Kamiya (the creator) said that that twitter quote was misinterpreted, he actually meant that he doesn’t focus on a games length but the fun you have while playing it and the high replay value…
Hopefully that will shed more light on you decision.

      EDIT:
Here is a quote from one of the producers, Atsushi Inaba.

“So it looks like ‪@PG_Kamiya‬ has caused another bit of controversy. What he is saying is his basic approach to how he creates an action game.

The idea is rooted in that you shouldn’t pad your game with content users won’t enjoy in order to control play time to the end of the game. It isn’t something he wants to do, or thinks you should do.

BTW, if you didn’t know ‪@PG_Kamiya‬ is the kind of game director who will pack as much content into the game as he can until he is satisfied. If we were to give in to all of his desires, the game we’d ship would probably be some super-long action game that no one would beat.

I’ve been teamed up with ‪@PG_Kamiya‬ as his producer for a long time now, and game length is something I’ve never once worried about. That means both the length of a single play-through and the replayability of the game. Never worried once. Never. Actually, my job really is to be the one who says “This is too %^&* long! Cut it!”

Of course, even though ‪@pg_kamiya‬ didn’t intend for people to jump to their own conclusions, they did. In this case, that conclusion was “So TW101 is going to be short then?!”

Let me make my own conclusion: TW101 will be so much fun you are going to wear out your Wii U GamePad. You will have plenty of fun playing it for the first time, and just as much fun playing it over and over again. Actually, the Wii U GamePad is pretty sturdy, so you probably won’t wear it out… And I’m sorry I can’t explain to you in exact terms why I think you will have so much fun with TW101.

I promise there will be plenty of news about the game in the days and weeks to come. But I will say this – Everyone here is working incredibly hard to make sure you say two things about TW101. One: I’m happy I bought a Wii U! — Two: I’m happy I bought The Wonderful 101!

Sorry for the flood of tweets, but thanks for staying with me”

      • Kirbyomega

Oh wow! Thanks maybe I might buy it now, just gotta check how much cash I have and if there’s anything I’d rather get first ^-^

    • Merrfn

I like games that have the middle ground. Not too long, not too short.

Too long, it feels like it is dragging on.

Too short, the game feel incomplete.

      • Shota

        2 examples
Bleach the 3rd Phantom- waaay too long
Donkey kong jungle climber- a bit short

      • Tim van Broekhoven

I spend 70 hours on my first skyward sword playthrough and wasn’t bored one single minute

        • Linskarmo

I spent a similar amount of time. That game is well designed for sure.

          • Tim van Broekhoven

Oh yeah definatly :) And all the cool sidequests etc make the playtime even longer.

      • Kirbyomega

One of my favorite games of all time is super Mario world because it took me many months to complete, because not only was it long, but it was hard. I died many times but the levels were so fun to do again I didn’t even care. I don’t like games that I play and then shelve forever…

  • Merrfn

I want W101 to succeed, but if the US sales reflect the Japanese the game could be considered a failure. Lets hope this trailer will bring awareness to the game and see some copies and consoles!

    • Smashninja22

They need to put out commercials and posters, billboards etc for this. GTA comes out just days later, so to get Wii Us to sell this game has to be pushed HARD! and WTF rockstar, why is GTAV only on 360 and PS3, I don’t care for it but it would’ve definitely helped out the Wii U. Still the fall and holiday line up is solid and SM3DW and WWHD is sure to get some consoles shifted.

      • Merrfn

        Don’t forget Donkey kong!

I think that the PS4 and XB1 might be slow to leave the shelves, because of no backwards compatibility. GTA V looks like it could the game that defines this generation, and tons of people I know won’t be making the switch because they need to sell the 360/PS4 to buy the XB1/PS4 and they want to play GTA V.

        • Smashninja22

and hopefully Sonic. How I wish I could shout at the guys at Nintendo to make a vehicular combat/3rd person shooter starfox game. Call it Starfox Online

          • Merrfn

Starfox online? Be quiet you are getting my hopes up!

          • Arthur Jarret

Battallion wars U would be perfect – vehicular combat, COD like shooting, C&C like strategy using the gamepad. It’d be amazing!

Also: Chibi robo world patrol, MMO chibi robo-ing would be amazing!

          • ScrewAttack

Battalion Wars would be nice, but what I really want is Advance Wars HD!

          • Arthur Jarret

Why not both, Advanced wars HD as single player, with Batallion wars as the mutiplayer campaign?

          • ScrewAttack

I wonder what douchenozzle is doing the downvoting this evening? But anyway- nah I’d rather they both got their own, separate games. The theme is the same, but the two had quite different, fun play styles. I wouldn’t want to lose the RTS or turn-based combat of either, and both could be explored nicely on Wii U.

EDIT: What I mean is, I’d rather both have a full game to be explored and developed in, rather that splitting the development time and resources of a single title.

          • The Clockwork Being

What I want is a MMO Custom Robo game. Nintendo has exclusivity on the franchise but don’t use it. Latest I have seen from that franchise is as an assistant trophy in Brawl.

          • Arthur Jarret

Wasn’t the last thing the DS custom robo game? Anyway – it’s a nice franchise and perfect for online and HD!

          • The Clockwork Being

Hopefully not a the same time as X if it were to come out. X has a lot of people hype up and you know one robot game can overshadow another robot game. Especially when one is an RPG with a great reputation made b y its predecessor Xenoblade Chronicles

          • Josiah Parsons

If I were in charge of a Star Fox game, I would call it Wolf, Space Pirate. It would involve a loosely objective-based gameplay mechanic where you play as wolf. You would hyperdrive to the next world orbit, engage a ship in starfighter-like combat, board when shields are down, and blast COD like to the bridge, and then take control. After that you could repair the ship and add it to your fleet or just loot it. boss battles would be fox, falco, slippy, and the team. use cash to upgrade weapons or your ship. Basically a star fox themed Assassin’s creed: black flag only awesomer.

          • Smashninja22

I would prefer a battlefield-esque Star Fox instead with all the focus on multiplayer. Kinda like Titan fall but you use starwings and landmasters. I’d like a heavy focus on teamwork with specific class abilities and creative sci-fi weaponry. No singleplayer, but instead have multiplayer co-op story missions instead.

        • Jon

I have a feeling GTA V will be just like the others. Will be the game to get for the next 4-6 months (even if it makes it that far) and then kind of die off. It was the same thing for GTA IV.

          • Merrfn

The game is getting hyped to death. It better be good.

          • Jon

The last one got hyped to death also

          • Merrfn

I really think this one will be amazing.

          • Jon

it probably will be amazing, but like the others that were amazing, Vice City, San Andreas, it will die out and be just another game with in a few months as they all were. That’s the thing about GTA games. For me, it’s the type of game you play for a while and then just stop for a long time and then maybe go back to it for like a week.

          • Merrfn

I find that it is easy to come back to. I always go hard out and then come back every once and a while. The multiplayer of GTA is so entertaining. I also love to just go crazy in single player and pull off imaginary “bank heists” with the cops.

          • val berger

it’s the same thing with 90% of blockbuster games in general.

    • Nintedward

I got it on EU launch day and it’s an amazing game, it really is!

The thing that seems to be tarnishing some of the review scores is the admittedly steep learning curve regarding the controls. At first I was thinking that they were too finicky and in-precise. But there is nothing wrong with the controls you just have to learn them first, then it becomes an extremely engaging, innovative control scheme!

I’ve finished it and I give 9/10. It has the most charm and character you will ever see in a game! Awesome replay-ability, unlockables and local coop. A must have Wiiu game that is, if you’re prepared to adapt to a strange control scheme that will grow on you.

      • Arthur Jarret

        The controls are fine, really:

Drawing for noobs playing on easy, and right stick moves similar to fighters for core gamers.

It seems some reviewers just skip tutorials and practice completely and expect to ‘press a to win’.

        • ScrewAttack

They’ll love the Xbox One then. Don’t even need to press a button to win, just watch the pretty cut scenes.

          • marshal

            fol

          • ScrewAttack

Well, uh, thanks for that contribution.

          • marshal

            fall over laughing

          • ScrewAttack

Ah, that makes sense :p Not heard that one before.

      • W101
      • Kaleb

People say there is a steep learning curve… but that is what Very Easy and Easy game difficulties are for! I feel that game reviewers jumped into Normal (the hardest difficulty) thinking that they were going to beat the game no problem. Sorry game reviewers this is not a push a button and take cover to win game.

      • val berger

totally agree. I’m totally addicted. haven’t finished the game yet just because I have to replay older missions all the time to improve my technique and try out combos. One of the greatest action games of the past years.

    • Kriffix

It will never be as bad as Japanese sales. I’ve been saying this since before JP release, but it was never targeted at a Japanese audience.

    • SH*TBLOCK

I’m getting this game tomorrow and will be doing a review on it shortly. I have to admit I was not that impressed with this game as I should be at first and felt that I was only buying this game to support the U and 3rd party support as well.. Now after seeing more vids and playing the DEMO I am excited for it and want to see what else this game has to offer me and others.

      • Merrfn

Same here. I will buy it to support the Wii U and 3rd party devs. The controls and gameplay mechanics where very tedious, but once I got the hang of them the gameplay was smooth and felxible. The demo has really grown on me, and I hope to be able to afford this, WWHD, Mario 3D world, Donkey kong, COD: Ghosts and a few other titles. Of course I won’t be able to afford them initially, but that is my wishlist.

    • Jon

I will be getting it… some time, at the moment I can only afford one game a month and well…. Zelda WW is the next game for me but I will get it sometime :)

      • Merrfn

I think I might buy WWHD first. I am just so hyped for it!

    • disqus_sgtob6da3X

I saw many of miiverse downloading this game this morning, plus I pick up this game this more. A very fun game for the Wii U. We got ur back Kamiya.

    • Stuart Thomas

Well i can’t buy it, everywhere local is sold out. I have to wait til this thursday to get it from kmart, My local Kmart has A LOT of Wii U games a nice full display, except w101 where it is sold out.

      • Merrfn

        Thats very interesting.

  • EricNavedo

I’ll get this game with Wind Waker HD :]

    • Merrfn

      Same as me!

    • Tim van Broekhoven

I’ll get wind waker hd, link between worlds, pikmin 3, mario 3d world, rayman legends, mario party island tour(if thats the name) watchdogs, assassins creed…

      Ow wait, I only have 70 euro’s :(
Is there anyone who wants to donate some money? PLEASE???? xD

  • Marcus Navarro

Grrrr…goddamnit Nintendo. I can’t even buy all of your games. I’m about to buy a 3DS for Pokemon X/Y, then W101 gets put out. C’mon, man! I will get this game, but you guys are draining my pockets right now. I wish I wasn’t so frugal sometimes…

    • Merrfn

And how am I supposed to save for other consoles when I am being flooded with must have Nintendo games!?

      • yugatsuj

        lmao thats the point lol

        • Merrfn

Well when you put it that way, it makes perfect sense!

  • Lusunup

Hideki said Bayonetta and Viewtiful Joe will make an appearance as a wonder hero :) I Can’t wait to play this!

  • Clel

I saw this trailer (in French) as a YouTube ad yesterday :)

    • Merrfn

Are you french? Somehow that Yoshi profile picture looks cooler, because it is a French yoshi. I have never seen a french yoshi before :D

      • Daniel Gonzalez

        I’ve seen french bread.

        • Merrfn

I eat french “stick” (sorry if that uncultured term offended you Clel) on a daily basis.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

            With french dressing?

          • Merrfn

Nope. With goats cheese, tuna and tomato paste.

          • Clel

            Sacrébleu!

          • Merrfn

Does that mean delicious? Or is that the name of the bread? You are laughing at my knowledge of the french language aren’t you ಠ_ಠ

          • Clel

            Mwahaha, you’ll never know!

          • Merrfn

You should of said that in French, and then I truly wouldn’t know at all!

          • Tim van Broekhoven

Bonjour, je m’apelle Tim et j’adore The Legend of Zelda 0:-)

        • Clel

I’m afraid I don’t get this comment, care to explain?

P.S. There seems to be some dedicated Daniel Gonzalez hater downvoting every one of your comments XD

          • Daniel Gonzalez

It was just a joke to Merrfn’s comment is all. Nothing big. My dedicated haters are just fans in disguise, they know they love me deep down. :)

      • Clel

        Yes, I’m French =D

        • Merrfn

Dang. English your second language I presume?

          • Clel

No, I’m perfectly bilingual. Learned both languages at the same time, growing up.

          • Merrfn

Thats awesome! I wish I had been brought up bilingual! Well, I am going to start to learn spanish for an exchange student course. Can’t wait to got o Europe!

          • Clel

            Good luck!

        • Magnus Eriksson

Im a hobby french. Ive worked myself through both of Julia Childs cookbooks “Mastering the art of french cooking”… Besides the brainstuff that is, because its hard to get up north after the mad cow disease. Im a big fan of your wines too. And bakery. And Cognac. And Champagne. And philosophers. And authors. And not having a king… Im kind of big fan of France. A part of me wish I was french, I would be so patriotic.

Edit: How the hell could I forget about your cheese? Im fan of the cheese too.

        • The Clockwork Being

I see you are French. I wish to visit France as it is there where I will feel strongest.( Im a french speaker and am currently writing a french novel but I am also good in english but simply love french). You dont have to answer but didn’t you say you travel alot.

          • Clel

I don’t travel a lot, I MOVE a lot. The longest I’ve ever stayed in a country is in the one I was born (5 years). Otherwise it’s always been max 2 years.

          • Tim van Broekhoven

I went to France this holiday :D

        • Jonathan Véricain

Comme quoi, la France intéresse !! Ca fait plaisir à lire !
Pour en revenir au jeu, c’est une merveille !

This game is awesome and I think y’all should buy it Day One! You won’t regret it !

  • A_7

Now please confirm wonder red as a
    playable character in SMASH BROS!

    • Merrfn

I think he may be. But only time will tell.

      • A_7

Lets hope so, he would be amazing.

        • Merrfn

I wonder what his moves would be like…

    • DragonSilths

Not happening. A character has to blossom and grow into his own well known character. Just cause Nintendo gets a new IP you think that character automatically is worthy of a spot in Smash Bros? Hell no. Just like Bayonetta wont be in Smash Bros. Plus if Wonderful 101 fails in North America then the game failed and you dont add a character from a failed game where everyone will say oh…whos this guy?

      • disqus_sgtob6da3X

Uh…Can you say that about Wii fit Trainer?

        • Fion

          Yes. He can.

          • Hinaru

Uh…no. No offense to WFT, as I can’t wait to play her, but when was she was worthy to be in Smash? She was from a game that probably many Nintendo gamers did’t even buy or if they do, hardly even play it. She was 2008. Not much of history. Even character like Jigglypuff, and Mr.Game and watch are still a mystery to me.

          • DragonSilths

I am a Nintendo fan. I have Wii Fit. Your point is invalid. However Sakurai can see the potential in any character, He obviously can see something in Wii Fit Trainer that none of us can. Plus we needed more females anyway.

          • Hinaru

As I said before, no offense to WFT especially when we do need more female characters in smash. And my points are vaild, cause just because you have the game, doesn’t mean you play it a lot or wanted or even think for her to be in smash. I own the game as well, but I barely play it as many others has said as well. And I think if Smash started another poll like they did with Sonic, I highly doubt her name would have appear. We need more new franchises in Nintendo, as it be nice to see new characters pop everywhere and of course bring back the old. I’m just saying since this is a new IP for the Nintendo frachise and it would be nice to see more new characters from difference franchise come in smash as many fans want instead of just seeing some of the different characters from the same franchise come in but with the same move-sets like with Dr.Mario, Roy, Pichi and such. I’m not the creator but I’m saying it considerable to have a W101 or possibly bayanetta in smash.

          • Nel

Yeah. In high respect, but Excuse me, but i highly doubt that Wii fit trainer was on your wish list to least suggest that she would make a appearance in smash. But that just the unique thing about Nintendo. Can’t wait to see more characters in the game.

          • DragonSilths

I have no issue with her being in the game. I trust Sakurai. You don’t like it boo hoo. Make your own game.

          • Nel

Ur mad bro? Just making a point here. I’m not saying I’m upset for her appearance. I’m saying that she was an unique unexpected character to appear in smash. And if you think that you know so much that a W101 character can’t make make way into smash, than I highly suggested you make ur own game, cause your not Masashiro Sakurai. At least with him anything is possible after the appearance of Jigglypuff, Sonic, Mr.Game and Watch, Villager, Mega-man, Soild Snake and now the WFT.

          • DragonSilths

I am a developer….I am making my own game…lol sheesh calm down man. Gamers these days are so easily upset.

          • Nel

Um… I’m fine thank you very much. Seems like your not though, since I not the only one that disagree with you. I was only giving my opinion about it.

        • DragonSilths

How long has Wii Fit been around? She wasn’t in Brawl. She had years before she made it in. Wii Fit SOLD A SHIT ton more then Wonderful 101 ever will.

          • A_7

Wait a minute what about jigglypuff she was never a stand alone character, she never had her own game n she got a spot in smash bros! plus wouldnt including wonder red in smash bros increase awarness about W101 which will probably pick up sales of the game!

          • Nel

            My point exactly.

          • DragonSilths

Jigglypuff got her spotlight from Season 1 from the anime. Much like Pickachu. Also you don’t think that’s a little late? Some time next year a bit of a boost to W101 cause of Smash Bros? No, Smash Bros doesn’t increase awareness to characters except maybe Rob…which was pointless.

          • Guest

They said ”Stand Alone game” Pikachu was always a fan favorite in video games and is a mascot of most of them. So points are invalid since your using anime. Plus, you were talking about Video games that sell well right? Well Jigglypuff didn’t have one. and the W101 just came out, so it’s has penalty of time to make sales this hoilday season. It never to late to pick up on sales. And even if it doesn’t, that doesn’t mean it can’t make an appearance in Smash.

          • disqus_sgtob6da3X

She was only in 3 games and was around since 2008. And just because it sold a lot, doesn’t mean that it can appear in Smash. And I highly doubt you wanted her to be in the game, as many have said. Don’t get me wrong I don’t hate her. And they include some characters that only had 1 game like Ice Climbers. For Mashiro Sakurai, as he made characters like Jigglypuff, Mr. Game and Watch, and Solid Snake I believe maybe later in the future we could see a W101 character make a appearance in Smash.

          • DragonSilths

You highly doubt I wanted who? JigglyPuff or Wii Fit Trainer? If you mean Jigglypuff I love Jigglypuff. If you mean Wii Fit Trainer it was the WOW reaction that we get every game. I had never given her much thought like most people, so all I can say is Sakurai surprised everyone. But from 1 developer to another I can respect Sakurai’s decision.

          • Guest

I don’t she said anything on you hating or disliking WFT and Jigglypuff or should I say that’s not the point. Masashiro has put some unique and strange characters into Smash. Maybe you don’t see that but probably others do. If the creator can put characters in like wft, Mr.Game and watch, jiggypuff, and R.O.B abd now The villager, out of their game and make them fight, I think it possible to say the a W101 character can make an appearance. Like with Snake for example despite if it sales well or not.

      • 00EpicGamer00

…Then how do you explain Wii fit trainer, R.O.B., Mr. Game and Watch, jigglypuff, and Ness and Lucas?

Wii fit trainer is a character that NOBODY expected. And allot of people were angry about that. I think everyone’s good with it now. But there’s probably some people out there, that still hate the inclusion of Wii fit trainer so much that they won’t buy the game. As stupid as that may sound, but their are stupid people out there that refuse to buy something because of one little detail.

R.O.B. is a failed character, but was added to Smash Bros.

Mr. Game and Watch’s success was pretty good, but I’m pretty sure more than half the people that play Smash Bros. (including me) had no clue who the heck Mr. Game and Watch was, with his first appearance in melee.

Jigglypuff doesn’t have her own game but is in Smash Bros. Also, she’s not even THAT popular of a character. Now, she’s not a FAILED character, but she’s not exactly the Pokemon you hope to play as.

Now, as for Ness and Lucas, just like Mr. Game and Watch, Earyhbound was a huge sucess. But, more than half the people that play Smash Bros. Probably didn’t know who they were (including myself.)

        • DragonSilths

People are still pissed about Bayo 2 being Wii U Exclusive. Gamers can be a bunch of bitches, that simple.

Wii Fit Trainer – Her game has been around along time and Casuals now her.
R.O.B – A tribute to Nintendo’s past again BEEN AROUND FOREVER.
Mr. Game and Watch – Same as R.O.B.
Jigglypuff – Season 1 of Pokémon she got a lot of the spot light.
Ness and Lucas – Earthbound was out back when the original Smash Bros was, so once again there was a gap in time there.
Never has a Smash Bros game came out when a new game comes out and that character just gets added in.
You cant please everyone and people just cant accept that.
Anyone who is old enough to have played the original Smash knows who those old characters are, except maybe R.O.B. Not my fault if kids don’t know who the fuck a character is.

          • 00EpicGamer00

Wii fit trainer has only been around for 5 years now. You seriously think that’s a LONG time for a game? That’s maybe average time, but absolutely not a LONG time.

R.O.B. is a FAILED character, you said yourself “you don’t add characters from a failed game.” So, you’re contradicting with yourself now.

Mr. Game and Watch is not the same as R.O.B. Unlike R.O.B, Mr. Game and Watch was a succes. So it makes sense to add him

With Jigglypuff, we’re not talking about anime, we’re talking about games. Anime doesn’t apply to this. Jigglypuff doesn’t have her own game, so she shouldn’t of been added, correct?Jigglypuff doesn’t even have her own movie. Cause, if you noticed, at least one of the Pokemon in Smash bros. is from a movie. Mewtwo and Lucario had their own movie. So, Nintendo I guess wanted to advertise them. I mean, for crying out loud, if they REALLY wanted to add a Pokemon from the anime, then they should of added someone WAY more important, such as charizard, butterfree, or any Pokemon that Ash had to give up. Even evee would of been a better choice than Jigglypuff.

“Not my fault if kids don’t know who the **** a character is.” So, right here you just admitted that it wouldn’t matter if Wonder Red was added to smash U, and 3DS?

          • DragonSilths

ROB is not from a game…he was an actual physical toy…

As for Wonder Red, it would matter to Sakurai. He wont add a character nobody knows who it is. He has said that time and time again. I wish “Gamers” would actually open their eyes and just respect devs for putting up with all the shit they put up with, but lets be honest. humanity is incapable of that.

    • FaTih

No I wish Wonder Blue or Wonder White

    • Tim van Broekhoven

I still want non specific action figure… But wonder rd will be cool as well!

  • Daniel Gonzalez

Here’s to good launch sales in North America.

that was a funny way to finish the trailer… jajaja

      • Tim van Broekhoven

        Why that jajajaja always..?

  • Nintedward

FINISHED. A must have Wiiu game for the hardcore Wiiu owner who wants a fresh challenge. 9/10

    • Arthur Jarret

Did you get all 100 heroes and challenges yet?
I’ve been at it for a while now… so much content! And don’t even mention 101% hard mode – what a nightmare!

      • Nintedward

Nah just finished the story mode. Still lots left to do!

      • crocodileman94

how is 101% hard mode compared to regular hard mode?

        • Arthur Jarret

Much harder. Challenges are similar – as in amount of enemies, but enemies hit harder and have bigger health bars.

It made me rage quite a few times already – especially the bosses – and I haven’t been able to finish it yet.

Oh, and time doesn’t stop for you when drawing… although you’ll use small right stick draws and the unlockable ‘hold A to increase morph size’ by that point anyway – so it’s not a big difference there.

Enemy placement is same as on hard mode, which is different than normal or easy modes.

  • Jake

September 14 2013, still no commercials. How will this game succeed when nobody will know bout it. Wii U has little and sells 3.5 mil, W101 has no ads and well… It isn’t looking good. Please nintendo, this is the 3rd out of 9 games that could be system sellers for Wii U and it has not worked. mario and DK are not strong enough for 2 new systems unless the games b4 are advietise and sell +2 million. I love nintendo and that is why I am saying this. They need these games to sell b4 ps4 or Xb1. If not, wii u won’t be a huge success

  • Johny

    interesting to see that its not doing so well in japan… in a way, the game is very japanese,… but then again, its too “action based” with too many “american-like” guns and explosions, which japanese dont really dig that much … if that makes sense ^^;

  • e_rocket

I think I’ll enjoy this game a lot, and certainly I would like it to sell well, but I’m afraid that sadly that won’t happen, because everyone is waiting for the famous franchises to come out.

  • e_rocket

I think that announcing Wonderful Red as a character for Smash Bros, could help this game to sell more… they should try that ;)

  • catsby

    Looks great

  • JeanPaul

Has ANYONE seen a commercial for this in America?

    • Mochlum

      Nope. Not one.

      • JeanPaul

damn it nintendo…. why do you refuse to advertise…

  • Andrew Gonzalez

    buying it tomorrow

  • Katz

Eh, medicore at best. Bayonetta seems to still dominate the action/adventure genre for Wii U. I’ll be watching closely…

    • Fion

      And predicted, to the letter.
That’s precisely the type of comment I’d expect to see from someone who hasn’t played the game beyond the little tutorial level.

      • Katz

Defending it? You definitely thought the little tutorial was awesome. Okay kid just personal opinion. No respect around Nintendo fanboys.

  • Will.F. Martinez

best trailer of the game i;ve seen so far. makes me want to get it again

    • cheope

until nintendo release any digital sales data we can only have some assunption. W101 is 19 rank in “Absolute sell” at european eshop .
Just before Lego City undercover that has been out from march.
Ig you think that most of digital sales are Apps and indie gamefor less than 15$ my opinion is that W101 isn’t selling so bad

  • Vextrum

Wait, was that Omahdon voicing at the end there? O_o

  • yugatsuj

dang gotta wait till pay day to pick it up

  • Mochlum

Nintendo better advertise this game as much as possible here. And on TV and other sites too, not just Nintendo-related sites. (which are the only sites I have found ads of it on)

  • http://www.w-o-n.org/ GoldDreams

Tomorrow is the day I’ve been waiting for since the game was shown at E3 2012. The wait is finally over for the best game the Wii U has seen yet.

  • Fred

I’m tempted to hit download on this game RIGHT NOW!!!

  • david jarman

The game is awesome. Too bad gaming took a turn for bro gamers and saturated the market with fps games and making a lot of gamers believe and feel that the only great game is an m rated game. Seriously, do you think if call of duty had little blood and no swearing and was rated teens it would do as well? Well, at least not in my opinion. This is coming from a guy who plays blops 2 every other day. I miss gaming in the 90′s and the early 2000′s.

  • FaTih

    “Za Wandafuru Wan Ō Wan”
    XD

  • sharlo galmo

This game is my game of the year, believe me peeps this game is wonderful. Give it s change and you will see, you haven’t play a game like this before. The action is great, the story is great, and it is a originel game. From the beginning to the end you gonna be suprise from how good this game is!!!

Crazy stuff and action in the game, i don’t want to day much about the crazy stuff, is bettter to see it with you own eyes!

  • Tim van Broekhoven

I love this game soooo much! I already completed it two times ;)

    • sd

Its a great game. But what did you think of some of the inside building sections that reverted to the gamepad to look around? I thought the controls on these bits were awful and nearly destroyed my enjoyment of this game. Otherwise a great game. I am on level 8c.

      • Tim van Broekhoven

Well, those were a little bit annoying indeed. But they didn’t destroy my enjoyment or fun at all. And I loved the little puzzles etc in these sections. And btw you didn’t really have to move the gamepad, you can also use the stick to look around.

        • sd

LOL. Maybe I should have tried the other controls, I was moving the game pad around and it was so unresponsive and poor, I kept having to reset my view. But once I had done these few sections the rest of the game is great.

Being a new IP if they make a sequel and fix the few poorer parts of this game it could be one of the best games in history, because the best parts of this game stand up to the best parts of any other game quite easily. It is definitely a recommended purchase.

          • Tim van Broekhoven

It’s a great game… But even with all those fixes it wouldn’t be one of the best games ever.

          • sd

The first one definitely not. But if they could keep chipping away at it and keep improving with sequels it could get there. But I should have clarified by saying the best game in its genre (rather than the best ever) if they fix all the issues and make a few more improvements.

  • Igor

    First time I wish I had a Wii U.

  • fireheartis1

    That was Amazing!!!!!!!!!

  • uPadWatcher

This Friday, I’ll be ready to UNITE UP– buying this game.

  • mark

    Here is the problem:

I decided to support the new IP and headed to Gamestop with the children shortly after opening. I was their second customer of the day. Asking if they had a new copy of W101 in stock and the guy told me, “Yes. We have one copy left outside of the pre-orders. It’s yours if you want it.” Of course, I did, and I also pre-ordered the new Mario 3d Land as well.

One copy? We saw the same thing with Pikmin 3 and the new Splinter Cell. People going to the store to pick up the game and there aren’t any copies.

I had to stop at Target shortly after for some more adult-specific stuff (drain cleaner :), fun) and, for fun, I stopped in their electronics department. The salesman gave me a glazed over look when asked about W101. “It came out TODAY, I mentioned. You don’t know if you have any copies of a new game?” He looked at the Wii U section (I already had) and said, “nope, guess not.”

As an aside, the flat panel that the Wii U was hooked up to at Target was playing Pikmin 3 and it looked terrible. I’m not sure if it’s even possible to set the Wii U to run at 480P but it easily looked 3x better on my 5-year old Plasma.

    • sd

Its the same around the world. Not a good sign, but if the Wii U starts selling when Zelda is released then I am sure stores will start stocking the games again.

    • John Andalora

It’s a pity. Had to drive 40 minutes away to get Rayman Legends for the Wii U because out local Wal-mart only stocked them in 360 or PS3. However, look at it from their view. No one’s buying the games anyways. So why stock the shelves with them? Wastes their money to have these games collecting dust, so they figure simply not getting them. Too low of a demand to actually want to supply them.

Frankly, adverts for W101 have been ridiculously low. I think there’d be more people interested if the word simply got out. I don’t want to sound bad, seeing as I don’t want this game, but I’m sure there are people who do who simply don’t know about it.

  • FaTih

    Kingdom Hearts 3…please…for Wii U…

  • Tim van Broekhoven

    I hou van aardappels.

  • http://www.mpt-online.eu/ Sylux

In Japan the game pretty much failed (as expected by most parties) in Europe it did okay but not even close to great (I’m also Europe but decided to pass on this as it doesn’t appeal to me at all I’m sorry platinum games and people who do like it) But I really hope it’ll do great in NA.

  • Wiiluigi

Picked this up today. GameStop said they had only two copies. He said no one preordered it and they were sent only what was preordered. I remember someone stating that any game you want from now on you may want to preorder. Because the reality is that everything is being made limited. Thoughts? I just can’t believe someone else and myself preordered this game and there was NOT ONE extra copy. What gives?
Also, people want a new IP well here is W101 and no one wants to give it a chance. Wth? Yes it looks cartoony so what? Try it. Look at dream team a really good rpg but I’m sure no one will try it because its Mario and luigi. Smh

    • sd

In Australia the only way I can guarantee games day one is by pre-ordering them. It has been this way for a while, but Nintendo are not even remotely focusing on the Australian market.

      • Wiiluigi

Just had a thought. Maybe they are selling games now in limited quantities because its for sale on the eshop? Maybe nintendo think more people will download games. Well I for one like the hard copy so I guess Pre ordering games will be the new norm.

        • sd

I much prefer the hard copy, mainly as I sell almost all of my games when completed. I do this to ensure I can afford to buy 2-3 games a month. So once a game has been completed it is sold and the money is put towards anew one. I would rarely replay a game as there are so many new ones to play through instead. Maybe games like Titanfall will be different as you dont really complete these.

    • John Andalora

I gave their demo a chance, and frankly I thought it was the worst premise I’ve seen for the Wii U in a long time. In the beginning the enemies were the same size as my characters, so I had no idea who I was attacking. I kept losing my focus because there’s so many tiny people on the screen that I don’t pay attention to the enemy and get hurt constantly cause someone just outside my field of vision is gearing up to hit me. The camera either zooms out to where my players are ants and I don’t know what I’m doing or too close to where I can’t see where I’m going. Drawing the shapes on the Gamepad is too difficult for precision in a game demanding a quick pace, and the control stick shapes aren’t much better. When I kept trying to draw Unite hand I got the “grab an object” circle or a black circle for nothing then got hit cause I wasn’t watching the enemy.

Now, I played the demo twice and felt the exact same both times. That’s a real shame, because I was thinking how interesting this game looked before I tried that demo, and if the demo shapes up to be how the whole game is played, I am not interested.

But, I know that I’M not interested. Not that others aren’t interested. It’s just a game that would frustrate me because there’s too much going on for me to appreciate it.

As for the two copies thing, think about it from their perspective. If only two people actually cared enough about it to purchase it from their store, how many other people are actually going to care? I’m not saying I agree with not stocking their store with new games, but with so few people itching to buy it, I’m not surprised.

      • Wiiluigi

I understand what you mean. It is very frustrating and I thought it was just me. But I said to myself that just like any other game I would have to get used to the controls and gameplay. So I’m not gonna completely rule this out. Hey if I don’t like it like Sd I can always resell it.
As for the limited copies I concur with everything you’re saying but the reality is that the salesman told me there about 20 people who came in and asked for a copy. Not only are they losing money but with all these shortages or limited supply rather, people aren’t going to come back. I understand the wii u is not doing well but with issues like this happening over and over people are just going to say “why even try? Why buy a game for a system we know they aren’t going to stock?” Which is another issue but it is part of the problem. And another reason people will give up a little more on the wii u. You want the wii u to move in units? Have software that will potentially move, plain and simple. If it doesn’t sell we’ll do what you always do. Send it to another store.

        • John Andalora

Personally, I like games I can get immersed in. If I have to stop every couple of minutes because the controls confuse or frustrate me, then I’m not having fun. I think the drawing thing wouldn’t be so bad in a game allowing you to take your time and think before acting (like maybe a Kirby game), but a game demanding your focus in so many areas asking for precise drawing isn’t going to work for me.

          Dang. 20 people?
Well, I certainly hope that they don’t give up on the game if they want it. I hope they’re those people that would then go to the internet and buy it there, or download it to their consoles if they think they want it. And it is a shame that more stores don’t hold these games, but with extremely low sales happening, they don’t seem too optimistic to get it moving. Pikmin 3 has sold 440,000 copies (170,000 in US). People don’t have as much trust in this system as they could, and with an already low demand for the system, they don’t seem to have any more trust in it (at least for now).

I think the bigger and more well known games like Super Mario 3D World will get more stock than something like W101. But, I don’t know quite yet.

          • Wiiluigi

            Hey it’s not for everyone.

And yes 20! I even asked him twice. I thought he was exaggerating.

I just don’t get how 3 million wii u systems sold and no one is buying software yea maybe they think the games suck but come on think about it. People aren’t using their systems so pretty much they were bought for what? To use as a paper weight.

Lets hope the bigger games get more stock cause if not I’m not so sure of what will happen. I’m a major wii u supporter and will be sad to see it fail. Lets hope these games start to get serious like the 3DS started to.

  • sd

By the way for those assuming it is a small game, it is not. This is a huge game. I am about 15 hours 12 minutes hours into it and am at the start of level 9b. Its huge.

  • sd

I just read the most ridiculous user review on Wonderful 101 on metacritic. The guy gave the game 2, which if you hate it is fine. But this snippet that I have copied and pasted below is a testament to the persons playing ability.

“To change weapons in The Wonderful 101 (an action which will be required thousands of times) the player must look down at the gamepads touchscreen, remove the stylus from it’s holster, draw a squiggly line roughly in the shape of the weapon they want to select then quickly press one of the face buttons, put the stylus away and look back up at the TV screen and continue playing”

If anyone does this to play the game it is just straight up ridiculous. Simply draw with you hand, you do not need the stylus, it does not need to be removed and re-holstered. If you try to do that the game will be unplayable. Also you are only drawing shapes. You do not need to look at the game pad to make a circle or squiggle. It was funny so I thought I would share it.

    • darkcreap

You don’t even need to look at the gamepad, you can see the shape you are drawing on the TV screen.

  • Jon

YAY!!! I just got a call telling me I got a job! first paycheque I get and this game will enter my house . :D
