Watch Dogs Wii U is between current and next-gen graphics, says creative director

watch-dogs-header

According to creative director Jonathan Morin, the Wii U version of Watch Dogs is visually in between the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of the game. According to Morin, the graphics are slightly tweaked but it’s closer to current-gen systems than next-gen.

“If you pump the PC to its maximum there are things in the filtering and rendering that I think are possible on high-end PCs that are pretty amazing. Wii U is pretty much in-between – it’s neither of them, not current-gen, maybe closer to current-gen than next-gen.”

What do you think of this revelation? Does this change your opinion of the game at all? Will you still be getting it on Wii U, or perhaps a different console? Let us know in the comments.

Watch Dogs will be released on November 19th in North America and November 22nd for Europe.

    Next-gen graphics are just hyped-up current-gen graphics.

    • Ducked

      Yep, it’s all HD

      • Simon

That’s what I keep telling myself. I’m trying to get excited for the Playstation 4 but can’t help thinking the best gaming in on Wii U

        • Ducked

There both beautiful, wonderful designed system at a decent price. PS4 is looking to have more 3rd party support for games like Star Wars Battlefront, KH3, FFXV, and Destiny. But hopefully the Wii U will get some of those games.

    • Simon

      My thoughts exactly

  • Nicolas Dorion

let’s not call it a “revelation” we all knew that was how the wii u was, graphicly

  • Nintedward

I see this as good news! at least they’re not just dumping the current gen version on us and are making some effort to push the Wiiu’s specs.

Wiiu was always going to be somewhere inbetween current and next gen spec wise/graphics wise and that’s cool! Anyone who expected Wiiu to match the xbone and PS4 wasn’t thinking straight. What makes the Wiiu stand out is the Gamepad controller, which I personally think is amazing.

    • D2ThaLo305

I think people are getting confused, He is talking about PCs. Not PS4 or Xbox One??? Which makes me wonder…

      • david jarman

I’ve been to a few shows and I know a lot of people who have actually had hands on experience. The graphics on those two system were like medium setting on High end gaming rig. Both those system are using current and somewhat current gen hardware(except for gddr5
Ram). They are both built with pc architecture in mind.
I hate when people act like the systems are state of the art. They are not, but they are cutting edge and powerful for a gaming console.

        • D2ThaLo305

That’s what I’m thinking also. A lot of people are going to be disappointed when they compare the Wii u version vs the PS4/Xbox One version, they are going to ask themselves why they waisted so much money on those systems.

          • Marcus Navarro

            Over graphics? Puh-lease…

          • D2ThaLo305

Yes over graphics, anyone can see that all the systems are not going to be as powerful as they thought. that’s why I bought a Wii U, best of both worlds. First party IPs and Third party IPs such as Batman, COD, Watch Dogs, Sonic, Mario, Zelda, DK, and much more. That type of variety cannot be found anywhere else except on Wii U. I can see now why so many people are envious toward Nintendo right about now.

          • Nintenjoe82

I think everyone will be blown away by the adverts of the next gen games and pretty soon realise that the devs don’t have the resources to continually make use of the additional power and see that games look about the same but with more realistic water, fog and lighting. The time it takes for a decent team to make a beautiful game keeps increasing and having 10x the shaders will only get them so far.

          • ICHI

Been saying the same for years, indie dev’s and kickstarter are popular because theres less risk and they take chances. How many publishers are going to pay more than the last mass effect game to make use of everything the ps4/xbone have under the hood? Not a lot and that number is shrinking.

          • Blugrave

Look at Wonderful 101. It’s a big risk game and I love it. Thank you for those risks!! Now people are afraid to play cuz it’s too hard, ugh stop whining.

          • ICHI

Yeah it’s the best game so far this year. I really enjoy wonderful 101 and hope it’s not the last we see of the sentinels. I haven’t just grinned all the way through a game like I did with that for a while. I bet it didn’t cost a great deal for the dev and obviously with Nintendo publishing its going to ease the brunt of development costs, that’s why games like that exist and they don’t come round very often.

          • Blugrave

Add me on Wii U. “Blugrave”

          • ICHI

            Done and done good sir.

          • YogiGRB

            Team ….. Unite Up :D

          • Blugrave

Add me on Wii U. “Blugrave”.

          • ConCity Soldier

Yeah, I was telling myself today that I love my PS3, but their really isn’t anything at launch that makes me want to get a PS4. I’m fine with my Wii U and PS3 combo.

          • david jarman

I believe he’s referring to why people wasted so much money for the Xbox one and ps4. They’ll be a difference, but not as much as people are dreaming about.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

I think it’s a bit early to know how strong the PS4 and Xbox One is compared to the Wii U. I prefer not getting ahead of myself on this one. Neither should anyone else.

          • david jarman

Yes, but I know the tech. It’s only next gen in terms of gaming console, but it’s current and semi-current tech when it comes to pc or just technology with the exception of the way the gddr5 is being used. THIS IS NOT next-gen technology. Period. I’ve seen it. I know people that got to play Titans fall. They look great, but they don’t not surpass high-end pc on medium settings. People need stop looking at the words next-gen that publishers, and developers throw out there and actually look at components and know what they are and when they were created. Half the cores just like half the ram is not going to be used for gaming. Plus, both Sony and Ms stated that due to the architecture great looking games will be easier to develop with less time, which tells me they’re not referring to pushing the system and that might not ever happen cause that’s were development cost will rise.
It doesn’t matter who has the most power or the better graphics if the games aren’t fun.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

No one was calling it next gen technology David, least not me. It is however, next gen for consoles. PC doesn’t matter here since they’re not in the exact same market.

As for graphics, of course the games have to be fun, but a game with breath taking visuals and good game play is hard to pass up. Maybe that’s just me, but I like the idea of that.

          • http://ejercitogeek.net/ Mercurio2054

yes, its all depents of the game, we don’t wanna play a watch dogs with 16 bit look.

and is talking an only nintendo fan.

          • Sydney Ultrasyd

            16 bit, maybe not… but why not 8bit :D
Nah seriously you are right, I prefer Nintendo systems, but Assassin’s Creed III and Lego City Undercover without all that clipping would not hurt. I find myself playing AC III more on the Gamepad because it looks better and the clipping and thervisual flaws are less visible.

          • Simon

I just wish Ubisoft would release footage from all versions so we can decide if it it worth getting PS4/XB1 versions over WiiU.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

If it’s a multiplat, it’s easy enough to know that they’re not going to look much different. If you want a better version of anything, that’s where exclusives come in.

          • Mario

I hate it when people like a game just because of the graphics and not the gameplay.

          • Pokewarrior2000

Right, graphics should just be a minor bonus IMO.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Well for me they’re both tied in and can’t have one without the other. As much as I love great game play, the game has to look presentable too.

          • Mario

            Maybe. But still…

          • FlashFan207

It takes years for developers to fully take advantage of a console’s full power. I am certainly not in the market for a PS4 or Xbone for a couple years, at least. The Wii U can certainly provide plenty of jaw-dropping graphics in the meantime. 3rd party developers I don’t think EVER truly take advantage of any of Nintendo’s systems. They never really give them a fair shake, but surely Nintendo will be giving us some amazing stuff to look at. Wonderful 101 is merely the tip of the iceberg. It’s exciting!

    • goldmrmber

Dude your on drugs THATS EXACTLY WHAT THETE DOING DUMPING A RUSHED SHITTY 8 YEAR OLD TECH Version ON wiiu

Its on the cheap no true gamepad or wii remote ether

This industry thinks its making ps1 games with added online OUTDATED SHITTY GAMING

No wm plus no wik remote no propet gamepad and ladt gen graphics FUCK U AND DIR INDUSTRY

        The “mature” gamer has arrived.

    • Rich Garriques

hes talking comparing it to pc not next gen consoles.

  • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

eh. I’ll be fine. Current gen games look good. While I’m disappointed, i’m not upset

    • Marcus Navarro

You’re always upset. Well, at least your avatar is.

      • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

yeah, he’s a grumpy little guy XD

  • AAAkabob

    But will the online work!?

    • http://about.me/overlordror Ashley King

If they jack online in this game it’ll be severely crippled. I hope Ubisoft has the sense not to do that.

      • SleepySkullhead

        *cough cough* (Splinter Cell) *cough*

  • babulibaba

    this is good
we are not current gen we are next gen
but it is understandable in the way he phrases that our graphics are closer to current gen
of course graphically and modification wise this game will be supreme on pc, but gameplay wise, ubisoft has had great use of the gamepad, and i think this will be a gameplay definitive version, even if they integrate tablets on the other consoles, it just wouldn’t be the same

  • Marcus Navarro

I don’t really mind him saying this at all. I might agree with him if I actually play the game. However, fanboys will fanboy. People are gonna take this out of context and be like, “”The Pee-U ain’t next gen, Nintenfagz!!!” …just to realize that the PS4 and XBOne graphics aren’t all that.

At any rate, I like how he phrased that. Just make sure y’all don’t remove the online play.

    • Ω GUNTZ

      They did. :]

    • Daniel Gonzalez

Comments like this is what starts these fanboy wars. Lol. Who cares who has what or does what. Just play the games and enjoy them. Both sides have their opinions. If people call the Wii U the Pee-U then I would say those fans are insecure.

I think some gamers I know say it best. “Shut up and Play.”

      • Marcus Navarro

        Acknowledgement=/=provocation

    • Simon

I actually think, apart from a few geometry going on, a few more NPCs and shinier graphics, Wii U will be just as good.

  • Christopher Acuna

This article will only feed the Nintendo hating trolls. I hope you all blocked that Springer asshole.

    • Marcus Navarro

Good gravy, why’d you bring up his name…

      • Christopher Acuna

        doh >_<

    • Daniel Gonzalez

You just invite trolls with comments like that. They’ll come one way or another. Don’t feed them and it’s all good.

  • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

I know many thrive on graphics and more graphics but I think the graphics on this game will be better than what the XB360/PS3 can do and a little less than the XB1 and PS4 and way less than what a PC can do. In the end this will be one (of many) games that gameplay will trump pretty visuals. This game specifically deals with hacking and in the game the character has a cell phone as his hacking tool. What better way to represent that by using the Wii U gamepad as your hacking interface.

I am looking forward to this game on the Wii U.

  • flybass

yea. this isn’t surprising at all. look at the specs on paper…gpu at 3/4 of the frequency with half the shaders along with 3-core vs 8-core is a definite disadvantage. Despite all of the recent comments about developers taking advantage of such an amazing architecture, the wii u just isn’t as powerful.

    • Marcus Navarro

*realizes that the PS4′s only using 1/2 of its cores for the games*

      • flybass

cool find – i didn’t know that. is the same true for the xbox1?

        • Marcus Navarro

Pretty much. Also, the Wii U’s CPU cores are more powerful than the PS4′s, core-for-core. The PS4 just has a GPU and graphics card that trounces the Wii U’s. The Wii U’s GPGPU does make up ground though.

          • Yen

Essentially the lesson here is, with console specs numbers are deceptive. They don’t always mean what you think it means.

          • jrob23

and a good dev can make a great looking game with some time and effort. Look at the Wii. Severely underpowered and limited but there are some surprising great looking games on it. It takes talent and resources but it can be done.

          • oontz

That also applies to Nintendo Consoles.

          • Yen

Yes? It applies to all consoles.

  • Deadpool U

So in theory the Wii U is an anti-hero console. Seems right.

    • Baum 「ツリー」

The Deadpool of the console industry :D

    • SleepySkullhead

Like Deadpool. That guy is awesome!!

    • Simon

Problem here is, WiiU is next gen, just not as next gen as the other two. True next gen is PC, but it’s cost Versus, value. I am debating cancelling my PS4 pre-order and getting this and AC4 on Wii U.

      • mr.Goodbar

I would definitely cancel and grab the Wii U bundle. Especially with all the games coming out for it this holiday season. You cant miss Smash Bros in 2014!. Wait 2 more years for PS4 or Xbone, when they lower the price/ have a slimmer better version without all the “bugs” and have more games to choose from.

      • https://soundcloud.com/rauschenmaschine Kristian Kouvo

Are you referring “next gen” equal to processing power? Wii U is the only console offering completely new gaming experience, because of the controller possibilities and it has “enough” power. So the other two won’t stand out that much in the long run. Also Wii U is the only console with special hardware, while the other two are just basically PC’s.

  • SonicLucario

Im still gonna get this for the Wii U, as long as it plays the same as the other consoles then its doesn’t concern me too much

  • Ace

It will be interesting to see if they include the online aspect of the game. The first thing I thought about when watching the recent video about the dude coming into your game was if Ubi would include that in the Wii U version.
They should as they kind of did that with ZombiU. Here’s to hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst.

  • Mike C

read on some other sites that watch dogs on Xbox one and Ps4 is 30fps which doesn’t sound next gen to me is the wii u watch dogs 1080p

    • Marcus Navarro

Should be. Idk if it will be. I can see it being 1080i or 720p @ 60fps. As long as it runs smoothly, I don’t care what the resolution is.

    • Daniel Gonzalez

I don’t think all games will take advantage of 60fps. It’s too early to tell, but I expect that most games will be 60fps.

    • oontz

FPS and Resolution are two completely different things.

      • Mike C

I know FPS and Resolution are different things, I assume Wii U will be 30 FPS so I wanted to know the resolution

        • oontz

I don’t think the wiiu will be a steady 30fps, it’ll dip like it does now with games.

  • Re4wii2008

Thank You Ubisoft for showing some support and not giving us a PS3 or 360 port and at least putting more effort for us Nintendo Fans (I hope the Gamepad features are awesome as well)! I don’t know if this is true or not but I hear the the 360 and Wii U version will come with an mandatory install disk but I’m fine with that!

    • Mike C

aren’t Wii U disks the same size as ps3, I thought they where some kind of custom Blu-Ray

      • Marcus Navarro

Blu-Ray disks with more layers and sectors. Memory-wise, they should be greater than the PS3′s.

        • Mike C

so would they be another reason for an install disk apart from disk size

          • Marcus Navarro

Nope. I could see the Wii U requiring an install disk for things that the cloud services on PS4 and XBOne can do. Otherwise, I don’t see there being an install disk.

          • Michael DeVore

It, most likely, wont be a separate install disk, but rather a mandatory install. Too many games have exceeded the bandwidth capabilities of the Optical Drive at 22.5MB/s. Honestly, the USB 2.0 port is faster than the optical drive. Hopefully they don’t use the GTA V trick of streaming both the optical and storage drives. You’d get a nice speed boost, but it’ll make the eStore version buggy since it wouldn’t have an optical drive option.

          • oontz

Yes just like GTAV it has a mandatory install of 8.5gbs. It comes on the same disc for ps3 though.

      • Daniel Gonzalez

They’re not. Wii U’s optical disc goes up to 25Gb vs Blu Ray’s 50 Gb. The tech is different.

        • david jarman

Wiiu reads disc much faster then both ps3 and xbox360.
Wiiu reads 22mb/s, Xbox 15mb/s and ps3 blu ray 9mb/s.
PS3 Blu-ray Disc hold 25g a layer, but because of the slow disc read games need to be installed in a lot of cases.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

I wasn’t talking about which is faster. I’m talking about what each one’s space limits. Makes me wonder what the PS4 and Xbox One disc reading speeds will be.

          • readypembroke

But remember that the Wii U disc right now is only single layer right now.

          • howling_wolf1334:[

            Yes…
BD Single Layer = 25 GB
BD Double Layer = 50 GB
BD Quad Layer = 100 GB(Very rare Tech)

          • readypembroke

They actually make blurays that hold up to like 150 to 200 GB but it’s nearly $50 a disc

          • Daniel Gonzalez

I don’t think they’ll be using dual layer much even then. Most of their games don’t exceed that far even with the single layer. That’s just how I see it.

          • howling_wolf1334:[

Apparently Wii U is going to read up to double layer disc, something like the Wii games that had at most double layer DVD disc…
            Example: SSmash Bros Brawl…
But it seems unlikely that a game will be released in the next future with this specs on BD…

          • david jarman

I looked everywhere and couldn’t find it. This might be one area that they skimped on since one is more focused on cloud processing and both are focused on game installs.

          • Simon

            Fast

          • Daniel Gonzalez

I would hope so. I”ll have to say faster than the Wii U most likely.

        • Marcell Wade

Wii U discs hold the same amount of data as PS3′s blue rays, I came across an article on it aways back, Ninty designed a custom disc for Wii U because they wanted to match blue ray capacity.

        • Neilandio

Isn’t it 25 gb per layer, just like a blu ray?

    • Simon

Anyone with any sense knows Wii U is much more powerful than PS3//xbox360 but it keeps being called under powered. I hope they do install for WiiU as it will make it run smoother.

  • AlThor

Never been much of a graphics rule person, it’s the gameplay that it is important to me. My WiiU is running on a 720P projector which I find way more enjoyable than playing on a 1080P flatscreen- I love the immersion factor this gives me! Looking forward to this game!

  • Christopher Coonan

    Can’t wait to play!

  • ZeldaFan83

I don’t care all that much about the differences between current and next gen. I think they are close enough. What I care about is a fun game to play and enjoy. I don’t watch movies for how great the animation or CGI is…I watch movies for a good experience and entertainment so what’s the big deal with how much better shading or textures are? I do like to play games that take advantage of the hardware like Pikmin 3 but the gameplay experience is much more important. Just because a game looks “pretty” doesn’t mean I’m going to like it.

  • Michael DeVore

I’m curious if he’s not thinking it through. Watch Dogs utilized the tablet so the graphics potential is being eaten away rendering a second screen. That screen eat resources to allow for concurrent rendering that for other games might be able to tap into if they turn off the tablet. I’m not sure if that’s possible with the current dev kit though. Even Rayman has a meaningless screen being rendered to the tablet when it should just be off, and that’s probably still being rendered on the processor even if you turn it off in the settings just like turning off your monitor doesn’t stop your GPU from continuing to render the game.

  • Mike C

gotta say the Ray man app looks stunning on my new plasma TV as long as games look as good as this I don’t care.

  • SleepySkullhead

I’m still getting it on Wii U. Gotta show that I want third party games, plus it looks really fun as is.

  • Louie

I’m just not buying into this “next gen” graphics crap…

MGS V (one of the best looking games ever) is coming to ps3 and xbox 360, so why do we need ps4 and xbox one with games that don’t even look as good as MGS V on a so called “current gen system”.

I also don’t buy into Wii U multi-platform games looking worse than the versions coming to XBONE/PS4, as Wii U has monolith soft’s “X” coming exclusive to it in 2014, and that also has better graphics than anything else shown on PS4/XBONE.

I think all these console fans trying to get one up on each other in the graphics department is stupid, I bet the differences between different multiplat versions will be tiny anyway…

    • Daniel Gonzalez

I believe we will see a significant difference with PS4 Xbox One and Wii U. While the Wii U won’t be able to do everything that the other consoles will do, it doesn’t mean it won’t push out some nice graphics either. It all depends if high end graphics are that important to you.

      • Louie

I probably didn’t make my point as clear as I could have, I didn’t mean PS4/XBone wouldn’t be an improvement on Wii U, I just meant so far the multiplat releases wont have much difference between them.

and I agree that PS4/XBone will look a lot better than Wii U games, but just not yet, it will take a while before we see that extra power harnessed and turned into something amazing, but so far the best looking games from a graphical standpoint are coming to “less powerful” consoles (MGS V on PS3 and monolith soft X on Wii U)
every other game that is billed as “next gen” like Titanfall and Killzone just look like something that can be done on the xbox 360, they look good don’t get me wrong, but I just feel that the phrase “next gen” is thrown around too often…

        Hope this clears things up….

        • Daniel Gonzalez

Of course multiplats never show much differences in graphics since they were made to be on par with each other. You might only see a slightly better lighting or what not, but that’s about it. Naturally, exclusives will always bring out the best in each console.

A lot of games I’ve seen on PS4 are quite impressive, and games exclusive to Wii U have been as well. Only problem with most fans out there is they keep comparing too much on next gen and current with cross platform games. For me, that makes no sense, but I digress.

Also, I don’t know about you dude, but I can see a difference in graphics with Killzone and Titanfall. It’s not a huge difference yet, but it’s a good start. I agree it’s too early yet, and we’ll see a lot better looking games than this later on.

          • Marcell Wade

You sir, are awesome, that’s what I’ve been telling people, it’s not really going to matter for cross platform games, First party titles on their respective systems will push the hardware their running on to it’s limit.

        • oontz

“it will take a while before we see that extra power harnessed and turned into something amazing’

          EXACTLY!!!
Look at the difference between Uncharted 1 and The Last of us! or even GTA IV and GTA V. HUGE differences as developers continue to learn and optimize hardware. That’s why I feel right now the wiiu wll be okay… but it’ll start to show it’s age a lot sooner.

    • Andreas Sunde

Compare games like Super Mario Galaxy to the HD twins games. The Nintendo polish is amazing, and that was a ~20 times power difference, this time it’ll probably be closer to 2-5 times power difference. I think Nintendo are fine.

  • jorge

they say that the ps4/pne version will be at 30fps and they are not sure about 1080p. So I think this gen every console gonna be really close, even to 360 and ps3. We saw the power of wii U with “X” So I don´t feel uncomfortable with wii U specs. For me this gen is about the games and exclusives.

  • Antar Rodríguez

im definitely buying this game for wii u im really curious on what gamepad features will be available, and besides gameplay and story are quite original not to mention it looks like GTA

  • jrob23

Translation: We are not putting in the effort necessary to maximize the Wii U version. We refuse to allocate the necessary manpower to achieve this because of the low install base on the Wii U. Yes, I know that install base is currently over 4 million more than either the PS4 or Xbox One which aren’t even out yet. But, we are kinda lazy and have very sketchy business practices like when we failed to deliver exclusivity with Rayman Legends. I know, I know, we ended up with perhaps lesser sales because the PS360 had GTA5 coming out to compete with it and we alienated Wii U fans, but damnit, on paper it seemed like a good idea. Yes, I know, we are partly responsible for the “the Wii U has no games” arguments you’ve been hearing and sure, we admit our gaffe probably cost the Wii U many sales earlier this year and a high quality exclusive could have really legitimized the Wii U. But despite our transgressions, we aren’t learning from our mistakes. We will continue to provide games lacking in certain features (Splinter Cell, now Watchdogs), we won’t treat the Wii U as next gen, and if you don’t buy our games we will abandon the platform completely. Have an A1 Day!!!!

    • Daniel Gonzalez

Does this upset you that much? Does it matter to you if they call it next gen or not? Bottom line is, Wii U owners will be able to purchase this game. Be happy that they even support the Wii U. If anything, they were nice about what they said and didn’t disrespect it.

      • jrob23

Yes, because to me it means they haven’t taken the time and put forth the effort to make the Wii U version as good as they can. Because the Wii U IS capable of looking as good as ‘next gen’. I’d rather no 3rd party support than half ass lazy support. I buy Nintendo for 1st party and any 3rd party is gravy to me anyway.

        • Daniel Gonzalez

Well, if it’s gravy to you dude, then it shouldn’t matter that much. I’m just seeing mixed signals here. Plus Watch Dogs is multiplat, so don’t expect it to look any better than the current gen.

Nintendo consoles have been more about Nintendo games, not so much 3rd parties. I don’t expect to change too much this gen. As for looking good as next gen, perhaps, I’m sure it can do more than it’s shown, but PS4 and Xbox One will look better overall once they’ve established themselves in the market. With that said, Wii U can still do a lot, but not on par with its rivals in certain areas.

It shouldn’t matter too much though, it’ll be pushed to its limit and bring out some impressive visuals and gameplay as time goes by.

          • oontz

“Plus Watch Dogs is multiplat, so don’t expect it to look any better than the current gen.”

This is a fact so many people forget.

        • oontz

“Because the Wii U IS capable of looking as good as ‘next gen’.”

Not from what I have seen.

          • jrob23

            lol..tool.

          • oontz

Not being a tool. Anyone that thinks the Wiiu will offer the same graphical fidelity as the PS4 and XB1 are mistaken. That doesn’t mean I don’t own a wiiu and enjoy playing it. I just know what I have seen with my own two eyes and I know the wiiu isn’t capable of the same visual output.

          • jrob23

You are full of shit. You DON’T know if the Wii U is capable because a) neither the PS4 or Xbox One is out yet to compare to b) the Wii U hasn’t even come out with it’s heavy hitter 1st party games yet. I highly doubt that for at least the first couple of years you will see anything out of the others that will be that much better than what Nintendo does. Most reports we are getting on ‘next gen’ games from them have been lackluster i.e. 30 fps. The amazing on paper specs (8 core) have been somewhat dampened with the realization that they can’t use them all with all. I am not saying in the long run they won’t have better looking games but you don’t know that for sure. And even if it happens it will be awhile. A maxed out Wii U will be amazing, heck, Pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101 already look amazing. Wait till ‘X’, Mario Kart U, and Smash Brothers come out.
So tell me what you have seen with your own two eyes from systems that aren’t out yet. What? Did you go to a convention where they showed Xbox One games on high end PCs..cuz that was happening. Once you get to 1080p, 60fps…both of which the Wii U can handle, then the rest is gravy. I am not saying it won’t be apparent or should be dismissed, just that law of diminishing returns when it comes to graphics has arrived.

          • oontz

“You DON’T know if the Wii U is capable because a) neither the PS4 or Xbox One is out yet to compare to b) the Wii U hasn’t even come out with it’s heavy hitter 1st party games yet.”

Basing on the HD footage released by developers for all 3 systems. Anyone with a decent internet connection can watch 1080p video captures of games from Wiiu, PS4, and XB1. BASED on that information I can determine what the visual differences are between consoles. Using MY EYES.

I have attached screen shot copies of Mario Kart 8, and X running on the Wiiu and also Killzone, and The Division running on PS4. If you can’t see the difference in visuals than you need your eyes checked.

“I highly doubt that for at least the first couple of years you will see anything out of the others that will be that much better than what Nintendo does.”

Again you can look at 1080p gameplay videos and see for yourself.

“Most reports we are getting on ‘next gen’ games from them have been lackluster i.e. 30 fps.”

You do realize that a solid 30fps consistently is great right? From a design perspective a constant frame rate of 30fps is great, and frees up resources for other assets.

“So tell me what you have seen with your own two eyes from systems that aren’t out yet. What?”

Have you heard of this amazing thing it’s called HD video capture. You see you capture the feed of games being played and then upload that feed for people all around the world to watch in HD with their own TWO EYES.

“Once you get to 1080p, 60fps…both of which the Wii U can handle.”

Please show me which Wiiu games are Native 1080p and have a consistent frame rate of 60fps. While I wait you can check out the screens I mentioned above.

WOW THE WIIU GAMES LOOK JUST AS GOOD, lol not even close.

          • jrob23

sorry, fail on every level. C’mon you can do better than that. Killzone is complete. It looks amazing and it should. I am not saying PS4/Xbone aren’t going to look awesome. I am saying so won’t the Wii U and pointing to a completed game versus two Wii U games that are still in development isn’t fair. The Division is one of the reasons I am getting a PS4. But that is further along then either X or MarioKart. I’ve seen MarioKart U live and it is pretty stellar. But it’s difficult to compare Nintendo games to others systems because they focus more on gameplay, colors, and less on shading, polygon count, etc. We may not ever truly know just how close the systems are. I say this because it seems 3rd party devs are not allocating as many resources to the Wii U and the ports have been less than optimal thus far except Rayman Legends. Once the new two are out that most likely will continue. So we will have to wait for Nintendo to be the ones to maximize the Wii U and since no 1st party games will go to the other 2 we won’t be able to compare. I’d love to see Bungie take all three and make one game maximizing each console and see what is what. My guess is, as I was saying, that right now you’d be close. I think by E3 2015 there will be a pretty noticeable difference. I am not sure it will matter as much as last gen with wii getting 480p (if you got the component cables).
I have to say, even Nintendo has admitted they were slow on the HD uptake and despite Pikmin 3 and NSMBU being HD, and beautiful, I don’t think they have scratched the surface. Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze will be the first Wii U 1st party that will show the system has arrived. That game is gorgeous. Once again, it’s not all realism and sunlight rays reflecting off street puddles and stuff but still gorgeous.
I think we will have to wait till a true next gen multi plat game (just for Wii U, PS4, and Xbone) comes out and hope that devs put forth the same effort for the Wii U (I say this because it is different architecture whereas the others are almost identical) and then we can tell. It can’t be a game that is coming out for the PS360 because these lazy bastards will just port those versions over to the Wii U instead of doing the extra work to maximize it. But like I said, that won’t happen until 2015 and then maybe it will be too late because the others really should have moved past the Wii U.

          • oontz

            “sorry, fail on every level.”

How is that a fail? I backed up my original comment of…

“I just know what I have seen with my own two eyes and I know the wiiu isn’t capable of the same visual output.”

By providing visual feedback of games (which are a lot further along in development then you’re leading on).

“But it’s difficult to compare Nintendo games to others systems because they focus more on gameplay, colors, and less on shading, polygon count, etc.”

This is a bullshit statement basically saying… well just because Nintendo DOESN’T do it, doesn’t mean they CAN’T do it. Regardless of art style it is aparent in all screen shots of wiiu games that they’re not capable of providing the same visual fidelity as the PS4 or XB1. Here is a screen shot of DKC-TF, which in your words “is gorgeous”. You can clearly see it suffers from clunky polygons, sub par textures and noticeable aliasing (ie; Jaggies) the same issues that are present in XB360 and PS3 games.

            http://wpmedia.o.canada.com/2013/06/donkeykongreturns2.jpg

“we will have to wait for Nintendo to be the ones to maximize the Wii U and since no 1st party games will go to the other 2 we won’t be able to compare.

So we’ll never be able to truly compare, so we must just blindly believe the wiiu is capable of more than we’re shown? How is that logical at all?

“I think by E3 2015 there will be a pretty noticeable difference.”

Well I already see a pretty noticeable difference. Just like I still see a noticeable difference between PS4 and a high end PC. The visual difference is enough for me to notice.

“I think we will have to wait till a true next gen multi plat game (just for Wii U, PS4, and Xbone)”

I don’t think this will happen, I think as the PS3 and 360 are slowly phased out so will the mulitplat games that would have come to the wiiu be phased out.

“It can’t be a game that is coming out for the PS360 because these lazy bastards will just port those versions over to the Wii U instead of doing the extra work to maximize it.”

I completely agree with you on this point.

Just for the record, I own a Wiiu (bought on launch day) and I love to play it from time to time, when a good game comes along. But I also know it (wiiu) wont compete visually with the PS4 and XB1. That’s why just like last generation… this will be a Wiiu / PS4 generation for me.

          • jrob23

yeah, your missing the point. Unless an independent developer made the same game, maximizing their talents for each prospective console and were given the same amount of time on each, we’ll never know just how ahead or not the PS4 or Xbox One is. On paper the specs appear to favor them over the Wii U but the whole architecture set up for the Wii U is unique so that is why I believe it won’t happen. Only Nintendo will devote the time necessary to reach it’s max. For all you or anyone knows they may be able to stay even for awhile. You stating they will not..with certainty is just dumb. You will never convince me of it because you have not held a controller in your hand and played the new system.
For an open world game ‘X’ looks pretty impressive. Will it compare with a game completed, developed by a studio that has vast amount of experience in HD development? Not right now. So that is apples to oranges. DKCRTF IS gorgeous. Those jaggies aren’t apparent live. WindWakerHD IS gorgeous. I am playing it right now. I doubt a PS4 could improve on the looks of this game.

I never claimed the Wii would surpass or equal the others…only that it might for awhile. I am not trying to make you blindly believe that assumption, however, you ARE trying to make me blindly believe otherwise. I will revisit this thread if it’s still active over the next year to see if we can make any true statements regarding how they compare. Honestly it’s all conjecture even if you stubbornly refuse to admit that.

          • oontz

Ugh, you said I am full of shit for noticing a difference in the visuals between hardware. All I have done is provide evidence and reasons why I think there is a visual difference. Again why I think. Like Ive already said if you don’t see that difference, cool. But I do.

          • jrob23

You cannot see the difference between two systems based on internet videos. You might think you can but stating it as fact makes you full of shit. You watch a IMAX movie in the theater live and then watch one from your living room that has been recorded via HD camera. You telling me that it will be as good? If so, I am done arguing with you. You cannot possibly know for a certainty that the PS4 blows the Wii U away. You have not seen it in person and you haven’t even seen the best that either console has to offer. Your claim is way too premature. That’s fine, you go on believing that fantasy.

          • oontz

Wow you’re an idiot. First I am not talking about video taken of off screen play. I am taking about direct 1080p captures of gameplay from developers. I wouldn’t base my opinion on some shity off screen video. All of the examples I used have clean captured gameplay hd videos that you can watch in 1080p which is also where the screen captures came from. You don’t seem to understand how an hd capture device works, it’s connected between the system and screen and captures a direct feed of the video in all its hd glory. So when you watch the feed that’s been captured it’s the exact same as experiencing it first hand. Second you’re the one arguing! I have said many times this is MY opinion, it is a clear difference of visual fidelity. If you don’t see the visual difference, then you don’t see it.. That’s cool. But it’s not fantasy, my eyes aren’t up scaling the gameplay I’ve watched. You’re the one living in a fantasy thinking the wiiu is visually on par with PS4. You probably also don’t notice a differed between 720p and 1080p… And that’s cool. But I do.

          • jrob23

get bent. You think you are correct because your eyes tell you. Those directs you are seeing are manufactured to look that good and there has since been reports that PCs were used to run them, that actual gameplay is not nearly that nice. Keep putting words in my mouth. I am saying I don’t know any more than you do yet you speak with certainty.

          • oontz

“You think you are correct because your eyes tell you.”

Ha ha are you serious… and you tell ME to get bent? What else do I have to base MY OPINION on, other than the senses I have access to in MY BODY. One of which are my eyes and perfect eyesight. You are whack!

“Those directs you are seeing are manufactured to look that good and there has since been reports that PCs were used to run them, that actual gameplay is not nearly that nice.”

Ha ha ha, Does this also apply to the numerous 720p and 1080p direct Developer hd feeds of wiiu games I have watched, or are those legitimate gameplay videos? Your logic is retarded. You can go and watch the developer gameplay walkthroughs, that are real time feed captures of people playing the games… NOT manufactured, pre-rendered trailers.

“I am saying I don’t know any more than you do yet you speak with certainty.”

I speak with certainty that from what I HAVE SEEN there is a BIG visual difference between the wiiu and next gen systems.

          • jrob23

you haven’t seen shit. Let me know when you are standing in front of a TV with a PS4 or Xbone controller in your hand. Till then keep dreamin. I at least can say I have seen MarioKart and DKCRTF in person and can attest to how great they look. You? Not so much

          • oontz

Wow I really think you need medical attention or a care giver that can assist you with basic comprehension and problem solving skills. You obliviously don’t have the mental capacity to understand what you’re typing or comprehend what I have already typed numerous times. You also for some reason think I haven’t seen shit when in fact I have. You keep on failing.

clever. don’t forget. let’s revisit when your mom buys you that PS4 and you can play it in person instead of over the internet

          • Guest

You’re still here? stubborn little thing, aren’t you.

“let’s revisit when your mom buys you that PS4″

Actually since I am a grown, post-educated adult… who doesn’t live at home. Let alone the same time zone as my parents… How is it exactly that my mom will buy me a PS4?

Oh wait it’s just you making assumptions again, and being an idiot. So mature of you to try and make a joke about my mother buying me a video game system. You keep on digging that whole you’re in.

          • oontz

Ha ha… you’re a stubborn one, I’ll take a stab in the dark and guess you’re American.

” let’s revisit when your mom buys you that PS4″

Another assumption… You don’t know me. There for you don’t know that I am a grown adult, who is post-educated, and actually lives with my family on the opposite side of the world as my mother (because of work). I will be buying my own PS4 just like all the other systems I own/have owned.

I am very happy that you feel there will be no visual difference between the wiiu and ps4, at least as you put it… a few years. I don’t feel that way, and I have formed my opinion on the matter from what I have seen with my own two eyes.

Now for some weird reason you are taking great offence to that. Not exactly sure what your issue is, but it’s becoming tiresome to say the least.

  • jdiaz1994

Don’t really give a shit about the graphics. I just wanna play it already!!

  • Petri

As long as the game is fine, graphics do not matter to me at all.
If it did, I would buy it for PC.

  • Daniel Gonzalez

I’m still going to buy a PS4 later on, but not for this game. PS3 for me on this one. Maybe Wii U in the future.

  • Agent721

Im thinkink wii u…considering its a hacking game, the tablet should be able to shine. Im not buying a PS4 or Xbone for a while, so lets enjoy the Wii U version over the current gen for its better graphics & superior joystick!

  • Leorio

I like that it’s going to be better looking than current gen.. but I’m definitely getting it on PS4 :/ Have it paid off too.

  • kenny Johnson

“According to creative director Jonathan Morin, the Wii U version of Watch Dogs is visually in between the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of the game.”

Umm.. that’s not what he said. He doesn’t mention XB1 and PS4 at all. He’s comparing the Wii U version to a high end PC “pumped to the Maximum” and saying that the Wii U in somewhere in between THAT and the current gen. Not between current gen and a PS4/XB1.

    • D2ThaLo305

That’s what I understood as well.

    • NkoSekirei

we all know that wii u has more power then ps3 and 360 which its true from seeing some game trailers of x and few others showing how sick the graphics looks on those games

    • Nintendo Hater

Wow, You Nintendo fanboys are in denial. PS4 & XBox One are next-gen consoles. They’re closer to high end PC’s on console standards.. that is exactly what he meant stop trying to twist his words..

      • kenny Johnson

How could possibly disagree with someone named “Nintendo Hater.” Somehow I don’t think you understand what the term “fanboy” means or you’re too daft to understand the irony of calling me a fanboy while calling yourself “Nintendo Hater.”

      • Jared Garcia

Of course Maximum settings on PC’s will be vastly better Wii U, but it doesn’t mean what will be seen will be bad. More likely it’ll be V- sync and better anti-aliasing. If there was more, I’d be pleasantly surprised. I own a Wii U and the little tweaks in N4S Most Wanted made it look a lot better than current gen.

      • Jon

My PC is is probably better than what the Xbox (two) and what the PS5 will be. PC specs completely massacre the specs on any of the consoles out and coming out.

    • Andreas Sunde

      Garme Jurnalizm.

    • Simon

My impressions, PS3/X360 versions will be weak, but playable. WiiU, will be pretty good, but not High End standard. Kind of Mid range PC.

  • ZeldaFanzzzz

can’t wait to play this game on the wii u, hacking seems more fun on the wii u gamepad.

  • palomino blue

I wouldn’t really expect a console to keep up with a PC anyway. That’s not why I play console games. I’m curious to see how Next Gen actually compares considering it takes a while for developers to really learn how to utilize new architecture.

  • East_Watch

This game will be great especially with the Wii U gamepad.

  • Héctor I. Rivera Negrón

I always ask the same thing. Does this graphical differences will influence on the storyline? If not I couldn’t care less. Plus as stated on comments above the Wii U version will have the Gamepad features so for me there’s the Plus.

    • Kaleb

Exactly, and no one really knows for sure how the game is going to turn out to look on the Ps4 and Xbox one, we can only speculate it will “look better” because of it’s hardware

  • Kaleb

I was watching a video and it was talking about how they seem to be maxing out the ps4 and xbox one already, also in the video it explained how the developers were having troubles reaching full 1080p and maintaining good frame rate. Couldn’t give you a source so do not take this for exact facts, only going off of memory

  • Ducked

At least it’s not current gen like CoD Ghosts.

    • Nintendo Hater

They just explained, Watch Dogs is closer to current gen on Wii U

      • Ducked

You love Nintendo so much that you can’t just get away from this site :)

        • Nintendo Hater

I just come for the laughs Nintendo fanboys are funny lol

      • EricNavedo

        get out

        • Nintendo Hater

          Sorry

    • oontz

COD Ghosts looks current gen because they’ve had to free up resources to lock it into a solid 60fps. It can’t be 60fps AND look amazing… unless it’s on pc.

      • Ducked

        True

  • Potemkin

I don’t think anyone expected more than that, in fact I’m surprised is half way between the generations.
Wii U is having the same problem the Vita has, trying to identify itself in the market…

  • ICHI

Looking forward to this game, need a good new open world muck about.

    • oontz

      GTA V

  • KeyboardG

Still going to play on the PC. The xBone and PS4 versions are confirmed to only run at 30fps at 1080p.

    • Nintendo Hater

Who cares, 30fps at 1080p.is way better then Wii U’s

      • Jon

        um… the Wii U is at 1080p as well…..

        • Nintendo Hater

          Thank you

      • KeyboardG

Because the PC will run at 60+ hz at a x1440 resolution. I didn’t compare WiiU to xBone, but thanks for interjecting your fanboy bias.

  • Damian Waga

Why are the graphics so important to everyone? When numerous companies like THQ and Capcom are financially dead or dying, who actually thinks that INCREASING a games budget on systems with a smaller user base is a good thing? Better graphics means more costs. More costs means pricier games and more DLC over content.

Mark my words, major companies like Activision and EA will be around, small companies will die out, and games will be so expensive to make that on-disk dlc will take up half the disks content if this is the focus of future consoles.

    • darkcreap

Although I do not fully agree with all your points there is something I completely agree: this model of massive budgets and shinier graphics in each iteration is ruining the industry.

Some times you find more about console technology in videogame sites than about videogames themselves. I am IT guy, so I understand passion for technology, but, shouldn’t we more worried about what videogames allow us to do rather than how much powerful are our machines?

      • oontz

“but, shouldn’t we more worried about what videogames allow us to do rather than how much powerful are our machines?”

The more powerful the machine… the more you can do in a game (both from design and gameplay).

      • Damian Waga

I couldn’t have said it any better. We need more than better graphics each gen to convince people not to simply buy a PC.

  • Logan Waltz

Moore’s law makes next gen systems irrelevant. Ubisoft is going to be the only company to make use of the Wii U to it’s full design.

    • oontz

“Moore’s law makes next gen systems irrelevant.”

That would apply to all next gen hardware including the Wiiu, which is even worse off because it’s a beefed up wii.

      • Logan Waltz

I take it that you have no idea what Moore’s law is or how it is relevant.

        • oontz

I know exactly what it is… and it is relevant, even for the wiiu.

          • Logan Waltz

products functioning under computing power that we have now don’t apply… at all. It effects the idea of “next gen” and just having more powerful consoles, as opposed to better ideas, which microsoft and sony clearly lack.

  • Nintendo Hater

HAHAHA, Knew it! For months Wii U fanboys have been commenting on Watch Dogs videos, claiming the E3 footage we saw was run on Wii U.. They really thought their under powered console could match the same visuals as PS4 & XBox One. i WAS,TELLING them not that is PS4 gameplay but they refuse too listen..

Hey NINTENDO Fanboys! Can you guess the next game on Wii U, that is more current gen then next gen etc.. Here’s a hint Ubisoft released a video a few weeks ago about this special game called Assassin Creed 4 Black Flag..

Building A Next Gen Open World For Assassin’s Creed 4 (Video)

    • Mike C

cool story pity Assassin’s Creed sucx the new one to similar to the last repetitive game play with long boring cut scenes that make school history lessons entertaining.

      • Nintendo Hater

You keep telling yourself that, I bet AC4 gets great scores..

  • sharlo galmo

why do he says maybe? din’t he now for sure? or maybe he can tell what it is look like, cause they must sell the game for all consoles…

  • Marius Valasinas

why don’t you show what Wii u version looks to compare with other systems and let us judge instead?

  • Jon

so in other words, you are not really going to notice much difference at all unless you have to two beside each other…..and then it’ll take you a few minutes to see the differences.

  • MujuraNoKamen

He seems to be referring more to PCs than PS4s/XBones. It wouldn’t bother me if he was as I wasn’t expecting the Wii U version to fully match the PS4 version but anyway it’s good to have it confirmed that the Wii U version isn’t going to be a lazy port of the 360 version. The improved graphics and Gamepad implementation is really gonna be something to look out for. Anyway, in terms of graphics quality it’ll look like this:

    360/PS3 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Wii U _ _ _ _ _ _ _ XBone/PS4 _ _ PC

(Lower end graphics) (High end graphics)

  • sharlo galmo

Did you guys now, that Nintendo is preparing the big update? Go to miiverse and check the news.

  • readypembroke

The only 2 platforms I could get this game for: Xbox 360 or Wii U…… obviously I am getting it for Wii U. This game screams for the GamePad!

  • readypembroke

What I think of more memory is…: better lighting (meh), better textures (ok), more players (sounds awesome!! especially with BF4 but EA owns BF :( ), 60 FPS games (I could totally care less, 30 FPS is good for me) and I can’t think of anything else right now.

  • Hulkamania

Wii U reminded me so much of the Dreamcast… that I went out and bought one. Dreamcast was better then the PS1 and N64 in terms of specs… meanwhile all of the PS2 users always claim that there stuff was better, and years later the Dreamcast is one of the most legendary consoles of all time.

    • MississaugaMaverick

      very true

    • oontz

And… sony STILL makes consoles and sega doesn’t.

      What exactly is your argument?

  • yienwae

Ubisoft has a lot of experience on how to best utilize the Wii U. I will buy this for the Wii U. I personally do not care if it is in-between current gen and next gen graphics. I don’t need next gen graphics. I want next generation gameplay that is going to enhance my experience. Online play is not next gen. The fact that Wii U, Microsoft and Sony are utilizing the Gamepad, Smartglass and Vita in an attempt to provide a whole different experience is what will be the game breaker to me.

Realistic graphics will not do it for me or an enhanced online multiplayer experience does not interest my family. What I need is something that is going to be great for all of us. My son plays games like Zelda and Super Smash Brothers. My daughter likes work out games like Just Dance. My wife is into Netflix. And I like all of those plus a small share of single player stuff like Watchdogs. But for us, it comes down to the presentation and how much it draws me and the family together and what it will do for our events and gatherings.

In the end, it comes down to what the needs of the consumer are. My brother wants a PS 4 because of the games he plays personally. My cousin wants the XBox One because of his personal tastes with the online community that he has developed with MS multiplayer. I purchased a Wii U for the games me, my wife and kids play. Neither one is the right way. It really does come down to the what the needs of the consumer are.

  • goldmrmber

Excuse me thats exactly what thete doing IT IS THE CURRDNT GEN VERDION CHEAP ASSED WIIU PORTING

Its the x360 version cheap poryed to wiiu

Fuck u ubishit. There porting the x360 version to wiiu slightly upping say aa then calling it the wiiu version

No profit going to die ubishit FUCK U AND DIE

    • Nintendo Hater

Thanks for proving how mature Nintendo fanboys are lol

      • ItzameyaToad

Hmmm way to be a hypocrite (looks at name)^^

        • Nintendo Hater

Shut up hypocrite, to you every PS4 game will look the same as Wii U. You’re such a freaking joke”.

          • ItzameyaToad

Haha don’t get mad because you know you are one. Say someone is immature then turn around and have an immature name haha SMH.

    • sd

Again with the insults and caps lock.

  • Guest

Basically Watch Dogs on PS4 and Xbox One will also be the same, in between this gen and next will be the same on all versions not just one unless the Wii U was harder to make the game for or something. The only version I see having slightly better visuals will be the PC version. Not sure why this guy says “the Wii U version is in the middle of current gen and next gen” because clearly all versions will have current gen and next gen in terms of visuals seeing as this is a game built to run on current gen systems with a slight bump with next gen systems power.

    • Nintendo Hater

Stop lying, Watch Dogs on PS4 & XBox One won’t the same as Wii U version”.Ubisoft already said PS4 will be the best version..

      • Merrfn

      • 00EpicGamer00

Dude, your English sucks. Go perfect it before you even think about arguing again. Also…I don’t think the PS4 will be the “best” version. PC obviously will be :P

Now, if you’re looking for the experience, rather than the graphics, Wii U is obviously the best choice. Since, you know, you use the gamepad as your hacking device }:]

        • oontz

PC will be the best “looking” version. But they should all play the same.

          • 00EpicGamer00

            Umm, that’s what I said -.-

Duh! They’ll play the same, but the Wii U version IS the best. If you’re talking about the expierence, that is.

          • oontz

lol, I was actually agreeing with you.

          • 00EpicGamer00

Then why didn’t you just say that?

          • oontz

I was echoing what you said. While adding that…

“they should all play the same”

Also you can’t really say the wiiu version “is” the best. It doesn’t exist yet… better saying “maybe will be the best” or “on paper looks to be the best”

  • WellWisher

PC or Wii U? Off TV play and some great gamepad integration could sway me to the U. But I do like my 60fps……

  • GuardiansFan

I will be getting an Xbox One and still plan to get the Wii U version as long as the tablet is well used.

  • Ganjabriel Del Campo

If the game is not coming with next gen grapics I will not buy it.

  • Connor Devlin

Oh whatever. It just graphics, at the core its the gameplay that really matters.

    • oontz

It could also mean assets, such as the amount of NPCs displayed at a time or dynamic weather and particle effects. Things that make the world more alive.

  • Is_Mort

Owned Wii U for 1 year and all i have is nintendo land and mario. Nintendo can go stick their heads up their asses, I’m done with them.

    • Mike C

to me, they released it not ready to early, Imagine if they released it with a killer line up, mario, mario 3d, mario RPG, mario cart, Zelda, Star fox, Donkey Kong,Luigi’s Mansion, super smash brothers, Metroid. We have only seen one of these games in over a year.

I personally think they need to quit with the Wii games (Wii Fit, Wii sports kind of games).

      • The True Gamer

Nintendo has a habit of releasing all there games at once for a system, and never releasing anymore. Sure, there are exceptions, but I mean compared to Xbox and PlayStation.

    • Simon

Why? There are so many awesome games on and coming out for the console?

    • Yen

Just because you didn’t like the games they’ve released doesn’t mean others don’t. I have Nintendoland, Mario and Luigi U, Lego City, Monster Hunters 3, Pikmin 3, Rayman Legend, Wonderful 101, and will soon have Windwaker HD. Even bought a few Wii games to play on it. Even when there’s no Wii U games to play, put something on netflix or youtube and watch while I play on my 3DS. People who says their Wii U is collecting dust just don’t know how to make use of it.

      • oontz

For me, the great games on PS3 have trumped the great ones for Wiiu for the past year. This is just for me though. I have still enjoyed the game I HAVE played for wiiu, just not as many as ps3.

      • The True Gamer

Most Wii U third party games are only exciting to Wii U owners, and don’t excite the rest of the gaming community.

  • Shigeru Miyamoto

Back in the day when the NIntendo 64 was released, everyone couldn’t stop talking about how fun the games were. Now all i hear is frames per second and 1080p 2k and things like, Aw wheres the DLC?! i wanna pay for DLC.
man gamers and the industry have changed so much.. I don’t know if I even enjoy it anymore. I’m 27 and it’s been awhile since I played a game that really made say, WOW that was fun, on a console anyways.

    • oontz

“I’m 27 and it’s been awhile since I played a game that really made say, WOW that was fun, on a console anyways.”

Then you aren’t playing enough games. This generation has been home to some of the best video game experiences yet.

      • Mike C

        sounds like he’s pc

      • Shigeru Miyamoto

maybe… or maybe my taste have changed.
I don’t think i can stick with just the Wii U this time around. I might actually pick up a PS4 but it’ll be a while maybe at least a 2 years after launch if their launch is as bad as Nintendos that is.

    • sd

Did you play Pikmin 3? Thats probably the best game on the Wii U, until Zelda WW anyway. Also Rayman is great fun.

You have a point with regards to 1080p and DLC. But the graphics will be the height of discussion simply because people want to be sure that upgrading is worth it for them. If people dont talk about the graphics to ensure they will be a decent step then they wont upgrade. Once the consoles have settled in it will go back to game talk.

  • Caleb Turner

Graphics don’t equal next gen , new ways to play make a game next gen. I just think people get too wrapped up in how good a game looks as if it makes it better.

    • The True Gamer

In almost every gaming generation, better graphics do equal a game as next gen. Nintendo simply changes the input method of games, but doesn’t significantly increase power. Not that Nintendo needs the extra power, but I’m sure third party developers enjoy a system with a lot of power.

  • Skelterz

cool we get like a hybrid it won’t be like filthy gorgeous but it wont be like blurry dirty either sounds good to me

  • Dameon Percival

I want to know about the control functions, but I am getting this on the WiiU !

  • Guest

I’m happy with the wii u, I always said if Nintendo made a HD console that would be the only console I need, 3rd party support is crucial but not so much in the form of most Ps4 and Xbox one titles, I’ve always bought Nintendo consoles because they tend to avoid many fps and adult related games, Nintendo games are probably the only games that excite me and give me that magical feeling after I’ve bought a game and want so desperately to get home and do it, it wasn’t always that way though, ps1 and ps2 were far and beyond my favourite consoles but playstation have changed and the jrpg genre faded away with last gen, oh well, Nintendo stick with tradition and I love that, i’ll always have fond memories of playstation though, dragon quest viii and chrono cross will always stand out as my favourite ever games but I ain’t paying up for a console that might not get those kind of games, right now, other than kingdom hearts 3, there’s just not much there that looks all that special and magical

  • Ben Bizarro

i’m still getting it for wii u. to show 3rd party support

  • Stephen Davis

Now would be a good time to see WIIU graphics gameplay

  • Nope

Never said anything about ps4 or xbone, the pc will probably be getting a better version than both of them too. The Wii U’s version is likely nearly on par with ps4 and xbone. Particularly considering the power of those consoles in relation to the Wii U and the current disappointing shows of them.

    • oontz

“Never said anything about ps4 or xbone”

The terms “current gen” and “next gen” aren’t really used to discuss PCs. I think he was specking about PS4 and XB1 when using these terms.

      • sd

Thats how i read it as well.

    • The True Gamer

Next gen usually refers to Xbox One and PS4 in the game industry. The difference in power will be noticable between PS4/XB1 and Wii U.

  • dforce79

Well duh! I never expected the top of the line graphics. Glad to see they did not just port over last gen. Some effort needs to be made and this seems like the 1st 3rd party company to do it. More should be done like thise and I think many would love it.

  • linxz

hmmm graphics alone won’t make next-gen thrive. i feel the industry is giving too much emphasis on something that won’t change things much. better graphics are just that…better graphics. WE NEED MORE THAN THAT. BARE IT

  • Eric Degrechie

If it’s the same game across the board, who cares? I buy multiplatform games for my PS3. It doesn’t look as good as PC, but it doesn’t matter.

    • sd

He said it is in between. So it will look a bit better on the Wii U than the PS3/360, but not as good as on the next gen consoles. Plus on the Wii U the gamepad might make Wii U the ideal platform.

For me I will wait and see whether to get this on the Wii U or Xbox One.

      • Eric Degrechie

I’ll probably just get it on the Wii U. But my point was, console games always look worse than PC games and it doesn’t seem to matter much to consumers. So I’m not seeing why it matters if the Wii U doesn’t look as good as the PS4/Xbox1 versions.

        • sd

That’s the thing that many people are making the mistake with. They think graphics make the game. For me I could get it for the xbox one if I wanted better console graphics, but I am not certain that will be the best version. This seems like the perfect game for game pad and the Wii U could be the best version to own. So yes if i buy this I will most likely get the Wii U version as well.

  • leo

And let the graphics whores use this

  • Quicksilver88

I have this pre-ordered for WiiU because I was able to trade 2 old Wii games at gamestop and get this for $10. I would expect the grafx to be in between current and next gen as that is what the WiiU is hardware wise. It a a tweener much like DC was between ps1 and ps2 in grafx power. My bigger concerns are that they have said or shown nothing about gamepad use when this should really be sweet on WiiU. Also while Splinter Cell story mode on WiiU is great the multi player has been really crappy and Ubi has been slowww to patch it while ps360 have gotten multiple patches. Rayman for WiiU has been awesome and you can tell it was the lead platform. I am hopeful because the primary team is doing the WiiU version it will turn out good. If it sucks I will not open it as gamestop has 30 day return for new unopened and I will trade it for Sonic, Mario or DK.

  • https://soundcloud.com/rauschenmaschine Kristian Kouvo

As long the framerate is up, I don’t care if something else is down. It’s going to look amazing anyhow!

  • SkullScience

I don’t see how this is news, if the Wii U is used to its potential, graphically, it will be ahead of 360/ps3 and behind XBone/PS4. That is just an obvious statement, it would be a bad thing for Wii U owners if it was the same as 360/PS3, a bad thing for XBone/PS4 owners if it matched them. It is kind of stating the obvious based on the tech-specs of the various consoles. The PC is kind of unknown due to the huge variation in hardware and how optimised it is for PC. We won’t see a huge difference from current gen to next gen for a long time as there is always a crossover period. 360 games did not improve much on original xbox for a couple of years.

  • Ivan

Well if its close to high end pc then look at need for speed on wii u very solid game!

  • Ivan

Remember the wii u was the first console beyond 720p no?

  • yienwae

I’ll be getting this for the Wii U. This will be second to Zelda Windwaker.

  • Damian Waga

    Good enough for me.
Honestly, after games like Killzone and The Last Of Us, graphical improvements haven’t really been my focus. A PS3/360 version of WatchDogs at higher resolution, more people in the world (Since we have more RAM) and innovative usage of the gamepad, and ill buy the Wii U version over any other console.
