New TV spot for Assassin’s Creed 4 released

A brand new commercial for Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag shows off the many tattoos and woes of Edward Kenway.

As we get closer to the ever present holiday season, we’ll begin to see more and more TV spots for upcoming games. This is one of the commercials that will be airing in North America for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag around October 29th, which is the release date for the game.

It shows off Edward Kenway and his multitude of tattoos, each taking us into a scene from his life which we can expect to play in the game. Kenway himself is narrating the commercial, asking what’s the price we’d pay for freedom to do whatever you wish. Will you unite under the Black Flag this fall? Let us know what you think about the new trailer in the comments below.

No… but then I’m not old enough to buy it…

    • Noel

      Hahaha! You’re a little BABY

      • uPadWatcher

You’re more of a baby than Raptok, Noel Coward.

        • Noel

          Lol

    • Noel

You just proved my point Wii U is aimed towards kids lol

      • uPadWatcher

Noel Coward… quit using double standards! If the Wii U is aimed towards kids, why the hell is that game on Nintendo’s Hi-Def console rated M for MATURE?!

        • Noel

So your saying Rockstar will release GTA 5 on Wii U? Yea that’s what I’m thought, if they ever did decide to re-release the biggest game of all time on PC, Next gen consoles. they will make sure it skips Wii U

          • uPadWatcher

Who gives a crap about GTA 5? Sex, drugs, and violence doesn’t make a good game. At least Watch_Dogs (and Assassin’s Creed IV) is coming to the Wii U… especially Bayonetta 2.

          • The True Gamer

Dude, don’t argue with trolls. They just want a response out of you

          • uPadWatcher

Thumbing down my comment proves that you’re a complete Dick.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Wow. You’re easy bait dude. Lol. Just let it go.

        • Noel

Maybe, bc Nintendo begged Ubisoft lol

          • uPadWatcher

Spoken like a pathetic troll that you are today. U mad because Ubisoft isn’t the only third party publisher supporting Nintendo… but also SEGA, Activision (Treyarch is developing CoD: Ghosts for Wii U), and PlatinumGames (see The Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2). Ashley is on the verge of kicking you out of this blog dedicated to only Nintendo gamers and supporters.

Get N or STFU and get out!

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Well uhm….you’re sorta right. I’m quite sure people who are neutral are allowed on here too dude. This isn’t a support site, it’s news as well. Everyone who is respectful can be here. Not just Nintendo gamers and supporters. So I suppose that since I’m a universal gamer and not a “Nintendo” gamer I have to leave? That’s not how it works. Lol.

            Calm down dude.

          • uPadWatcher

Since you gave me a thumbs down, whatever.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

I never gave you a thumbs down. Lol. Do you feel entitled to a thumbs up? Cause I don’t give those out often. I see you didn’t answer my question. So that just tells me you’re being AWOL right now cause a troll got to you so badly. It happens. It’s no ones problem if you get crazy over what someone thinks. Lol.

“Since you gave me a thumbs down, whatever.”

Yet, Noel is the crybaby here? That’s exactly what you’re doing right now, especially since someone gives you a downvote. I say you got it for being unreasonable, but I digress. Take things the wrong way I guess, I can’t be bothered too much if that’s your maturity level. Have a nice night dude.

          • Jon

I want you to give me the source about Nintendo “begging” for this title instead of giving a dead statement.

      • Hulkamania

“blah blah blah, Wii U is aimed towards kids, blah blah blah”

I see more kids playing Xbox 360 brother… and what Hulkamania says is whats right… in fact, lets take a look at Hulk Hogans Wii U library…

-Call of Duty Black Ops 2 (Not for kids, unless you have 360)
-Assassins Creed III (Not for Kids)
        -ZombiU (Not for kids)
-Ninja Gaiden (Definetly not for kids)
-Tekken (Everyone could play this game)
-Need for Speed (Everyone could play this)
-Tank Tank Tank (Everyone could play this also)
-Splinter Cell (NOT FOR KIDS… trust me..)
-Resident Evil (… obviously not for kids)
-Mass Effect (is this for kids? na… I dont think so…)

Kiss our Wii U Hulkamania asses brother.

        • Noel

No Need to get offensive hulk you win

AC IV: Black Flag is the water down version on Wii U

    • uPadWatcher

Nice try troll. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is an IMPROVED version on Wii U… and it’s better than III.

      • Noel

Still not the next-gen version PS4 &XB1 is getting..

        • uPadWatcher

STILL the Wii U is next-gen. Your double standards isn’t working for you… Massengil.

          • Noel

No developer considers Wii U next gen.

          • uPadWatcher

Except the fact that Shin’en Games have clearly stated that Wii U is next gen. Quit being a childish brat and go change your diapers.

          • Noel

How can Wii U be next gen when it’s inferior to PS4/XB1.

          • uPadWatcher

“The Wii U eDRAM has a similar function as the eDRAM in the XBOX360. You put your GPU buffers there for fast access. On Wii U it is just much more available than on XBOX360, which means you can render faster because all of your buffers can reside in this very fast RAM. On Wii U the eDRAM is available to the GPU and CPU. So you can also use it very efficiently to speed up your application.

The 1GB application RAM is used for all the games resources. Audio, textures, geometry, etc.

Theoretical RAM bandwidth in a system doesn’t tell you too much because GPU caching will hide a lot of this latency. Bandwidth is mostly an issue for the GPU if you make scattered reads around the memory. This is never a good idea for good performance.

I can’t detail the Wii U GPU but remember it’s a GPGPU. So you are lifted from most limits you had on previous consoles. I think that if you have problems making a great looking game on Wii U then it’s not a problem of the hardware.”

            Manfred Linzner, Shin’en Games

          • Noel

Of course Shin’en Games would say the Wii-U is next gen, they are solely developing for Nintendo. It would be weird of them to say it isn’t.. For them it’s next gen compared to the original Wii, which is just marginally better than a PS2/xbox1,

And this time it’s the same, the Wii-U is marginally better than the PS3/xbox360 (and in some regards according to developers it’s even worse than a PS3/xbox360).

          • uPadWatcher

Are you remedial… or you suck ass at damage controlling, Coward?

          • Noel

Shin’en Games, is Nintendo developer what are they suppose to say, Yes the GPU is ahead of the current generation of GPUs, but that’s where the comparison stops there. better then PS3/360. No match for PS4/XB1

If Wii U was powerful console, Nintendo would of shown off the tech specs just like Sony and Microsoft did, but they won’t, bc they are hiding them, because they would be tore apart for the hardware inside the Wii U and what they are charging for it.

          • uPadWatcher

Quit crying, you spec whore. You know that Nintendo doesn’t give away specs… except give away video games and social media. You’re also ignoring the fact that the Wii U has GPGPU. They’ll reveal it’s potential when they release Bayonetta 2 and a new Xeno game.

          • Jared Garcia

I saw an interesting article on the Wii U’s horsepower and I thought I’d share it. http://www.cinemablend.com/games/Project-CARS-Wii-U-Features-Particle-Shadows-Multi-Threaded-Shadowing-59659.html

          • uPadWatcher

Thank you for sharing that article, Jared Garcia.

          • Jared Garcia

The next generation is unfamiliar territory for most console game designers. With newer architectures, there’s going to be a learning phase and Nintendo just happens to be the first. After a few years, there’ll be bigger differences. Of course with X1 and PS4, it’ll be the same as well.

          • Petri

Xbone and PS4 were made to be as pc like as possible.
Don’t know what that means to developers who has solely been developing for traditional consoles.
But they are going to be easier for develop for.
Wii U is not hard to develop for, as it is mostly architecture console game makers are used to.

There will be very few exceptions, that are not possible to make on Wii U next gen, but we already know, and many developers has stated it too, that next gen is not a huge jump from last gen, and mostly only graphical difference.

Porting games will become easier, since developers can pretty much copy/paste between PC PS4 and XBone.
As competition, I would be more worried about PS3 and 360 than next gen.
Those has huge install bases, with little watering down graphics and such next gen games can be made for those consoles.
So when developers look for making more money on their games, they might prefer last gen instead of Wii U.
But that I do not know, if Sony ans MS can afford having their last gen compete with their next gen.

But we will just have to wait and see.

          • uPadWatcher

“…if you have problems making a great looking game on Wii U then it’s not a problem of the hardware.”

          • Jon

The Wii was vastly inferior to the 360 and PS3 and release a year before them as well yet it was part of that gen. The same will be with the Wii U, PS4, and Xone, Hardware won’t be the same but hardware is not games and games is what makes a system. There is a nice line-up on the Wii U, there is also some decent line ups on the other two, the only question will be, will those really be what you consider the “next gen” because a lot of these will just be ports from the ps3 and 360. But really, a generation is a measure of time, not hardware

          • Noel

True but, WiiU’s specs mean that most multi-platform
next-gen titles won’t get released for it. The Wii didn’t get some of the most popular multi-platform games of the last generation (Skyrim, Mass Effect 3, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, etc), and the same will happen with the WiiU. Notice that most of the WiiU’s third-party games are actually 7th gen ports.

Already happening, with BF4, TitanFall, The Witcher 3,Evil Within and I’m sure many more will come..

          • Daniel Gonzalez

            Most likely.

          • Jon

ok and the Wii did fine without those titles. Also, those titles you mentioned are going to be ports from 360 and PS3

          • Jared Garcia

Though there’s a lot of truth there, I find it ironic that these companies are stating how scalable their engines are, but won’t run it on Wii U. Don’t tell me Frostbite wont work on it and then put Battlefield 4 on the Xbox 360. Same was said with Id Tech 5 and Unreal 4. Will it run? Yes, but we wont support it was their answer.
It’s funny again, broken record huh, that Ubisoft stated that AC4 and Watch Dogs isn’t quite next gen, but it’s not current gen. It’s snuggled in the middle. Reminds me of Jimmy Eats World.

          • The True Gamer

Timeframe and competition, not power, determines what is next gen

          • Daniel Gonzalez

He’s not from what I see. He’s stating what he thinks. He has a right to his opinion, and I happen to agree with it. I consider it between gens, but just about every developer thinks it’s on par with 360 and PS3. It’s just how most feel. Shin’en games is just one developer, they don’t speak for the industry. You have your opinion and everyone else has theirs.

PS4 and Xbox One are stronger than the Wii U, that much is obvious. It’s not a bad thing to be between gens. I call that a step up than a step down. It’s not about being a spec whore or whatever people like to call it, it’s just stating the obvious. It doesn’t discredit the Wii U at all as it has it’s advantages too, as every console does.

            Name calling gets us nowhere.

          • Noel

Wii U is like current gen 7.5

          • uPadWatcher

You’re failing at damage control, Noel Coward. Wii U is part of the 8th generation of video games alongside PS4, Xbox Done, Steambox (which is better than Sony and Microsoft’s PC wannabes). The administrator is tracking you down on your childish and cowardly behavior. Be a good laddie and go to either PS4Blog or XboxOneBlog.

          • Noel

The Wii U, to me, doesn’t seem like a very viable gaming platform, especially if you can only afford one of the next-gen consoles.consoles are suppose to have 7 year life cycles, but Nintendo has made exception..

Wii U will be replaced within 5 years

          • uPadWatcher

You have 0% experience, Noel Coward. You’re ignoring the fact that the Wii U the only next gen console that’s backwards compatible with the original Wii. The two PC wannabes aren’t backwards compatible. The Wii U will survive when they release more games like Super Smash Bros., Super Mario 3D World, Wii Fit U (a sequel to the highly successful Wii original), Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2 (Wii U exclusive), and a Japanese RPG from Monolith Soft.

Wii U will soon have games powered by a 2nd generation engine from Shin’en, a new engine from Retro Studios, and Crytek will deliver a new CryEngine also.

That’s all I have to say to you because you’ve been wasting your effing time trolling and damage controlling. You lose! Good day sir!

          • Daniel Gonzalez

that means that is your personal opinion

          • Jim Coles

What games are there on the ps4 for my kids agreed 7 and 9 ?

          • Hulkamania

Wii U is not current gen brother… the fact is, what took the XBox 360 and PlayStation 3 6 years to do… the Wii U did it at launch with no problem and the system runs very cool doing it. You know what that means? That means that 6 years from now, you will see a lot of stuff being done on the Wii U that will never ever be able to be done on the PS3 and Xbox 360. The Wii U will surpass what you have already seen brother. Watcha gonna do with Wii U and Hulkamania runs wild on you!

          • Noel

Hulk, As of 2013, You do know Wii U is selling poorly right?PS3,360,3DS, PSVita, and even the outdated Wii has outsold Wii U every month of this year. Not only that every, game has tank on Wii U

Pikmin 3 Tank in Japan/ North America
The Wonderful 101 Tanked in Japan
Splinter cell blacklist tanked on Wii U

            Only exception is Rayman.

No offense, I can’t even see Wii U still being on the market 6 years from now. Once Developers are ready to move onto next gen then we will see Nintendo’s console suffer the same fake, as non HD Wii

          • Jon

Every systems sold poorly at start, The Wii U is selling better than the Xbox 360 and the PS3 when they started. You are going to see this with the Xone and the PS4 as well. There will be a surge of sales, then it will fall to “dismal” amounts until they take off. This is the story of every new console.

          • The True Gamer

            Ps4 has 1.5 million preorders

          • Jon

yep, and then once all though are done and christmas sales, the numbers will drop to a dismal amount until the system takes off after a year.

          • http://skoruppa.jogger.pl skoruppa

Um no? PS Vita is so bad that even NOW it got worst sales than Wii U. Oh, and do you remember that this “original Wii, which is just marginally better than a PS2/xbox1″ outsold PS3 and XBOX360 by milions!? And far worst by hardware DS outsold PSP? Same story with 3DS and PSV…. so why this cant happen again with PS4 and Xbox one? You know, just like in other generations where nintendo hardware was weaker but still sold better than others. Tell us, pls :)

          • The True Gamer

Ps4 has 1.5 million preorders, and the new systems are the most anticipated in history. Wii u caused confusion to the general public, and was pricey for the tech included, because of a gamepad that many people would have bought the system without

          • http://skoruppa.jogger.pl skoruppa

And this is a reason :) Yeah, In my opinion Sony can win this generation just like sixth but what if x86 will fail? You know, PS4 is now more like PC than console. And thx to same architecture writing something like emulator for pc can be really easy now.

        • Noel

          Never denial that

        • Louie

WTF are you on about? This game is a multiplat release there will be little to no difference in graphics.
I don’t know why i bother with trolls but hopefully THIS will show you that the Wii U IS a next gen console…

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Wii U is between gens, not exactly next gen as some people may feel. Being in the middle is not bad either as that makes WIi U stronger than PS3 and 360. X looks like a great game and I’ve seen screens and a trailer of it, but it’s not really anything that is close to what I’ve seen on PS4 and Xbox One. I’m not discrediting Nintendo, but I wouldn’t expect Wii U games to beat PS4 or Xbox One this gen.

You are right, though. AC IV is multiplat and all versions will pretty much look the same. I don’t agree which version is better as that is subjective and a matter of preference. No matter what, we’ll all get to experience it.

          • The Walking Dead

All versions will not look the same, AC4 runs on new next gen Engine called Anvil Next Engine’s. Ubisoft has clearly explained PS4/XBox One versions can’t be handled on current gen consoles or Wii U..

Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag will make use of in an attempt to become the “most immersive Assassin’s Creed yet.” The game also features a “sea engine” that aims to replicate genuine movements of waves and colors of the water.

Very true, if you’re looking at it from a graphic perspective. It’s still a 8th generation console, so in reality it is a next gen system.
I was debating with some friends earlier about next gen systems, some say next gen blows current gen out the water in graphics and the other ones say they don’t notice a difference. But here is my opinion, they’re both wrong or in denial. I for one notice a difference between PS3/360 & PS4/X1 games. More polygon models on screen (game still being detailed ala Dead Rising 3), far draw distances ( Killzone comes to mind) more detailed textures, etc. Overall, it looks prettier. I would say more on the lines of the Super Nintendo compared to Sega Genesis games (even though they’re in the same generation). SNES games looked prettier. But didn’t blow Genesis games out the water. I said that to say this. Nothing I’ve seen on next gen blows current gen games out the water. Sega Dreamcast compared to Sega Saturn, or even PS2 compared to PS1 is a good example of blowing the previous gen out the water. Even from their earlier games.
So while I do say next gen games are noticeably prettier, they still don’t blow current gen games out the water. Wii U graphics are in between gens. When developers really get familiar with the hardware and make a game on Wii U from ground up and take advantage of the hardware, we’ll start seeing some real impressive Wii U games visually.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Same will be said about PS4 and Xbox One. I still stand by it’s between gens. It’s all a matter of opinion. Gamers and the industry alike all take different sides on this. It’s all subjective and we’ll all never agree. All three consoles will have better looking games as the years go on. That’s all there is to it.

          • 504HotBoy

I not debating that. I agree Wii U is in between gen, but from a graphic perspective. Also a lot of people don’t realize developers are already familiar with PS4 & X1 hardware. It uses PC hardware (X86), that they be developing on for years. There is no learning curve. It’s not custom hardware. So games will improve of course, but not by much.

          • The Walking Dead

            AC4 IV: is native 1080p/60fps on PS4/XBox One ‘

            Something like 720p on current gen/Wii U

          • Rinslowe

It will be native 720p upscaled to 1080p like AC3…

And it will likely include some improvements to the anvil next engine employed in all AC3 builds… By that token, I am confident that if performance holds equal to AC3 on Wii U, then no-one is going to be disappointed with Wii U’s AC4 version…

          • Rinslowe

Although I agree in terms of next gen visuals being better, You do realise that fact does not take away from the visuals of current gen, which are likely to push each system equally…
In other words current gen versions will not be said to look bad because lets face it, we are beyond the point where games look bad in HD.
AC4 will look the part no matter which platform you are gaming on. Building on that, the fact next gen and PC builds will look better than current gen will not affect the way the game plays.
So putting those two aspects together, current gen looking really good, next gen being better and gameplay being equal. Then I think your point, as correct as it is technically in fact has little overall significance.
AC3 on the Wii U was 720p upscaled to 1080p which of course is not the same as native 1080p, however Wii U’s up-scaling is very good and AC3 looks great on my 1080p projector.
If Ubisoft has managed to improve on 3′s visuals for AC4 regarding Wii U, then 1080p upscaled is not so much of a negative, in terms of real world performance…

I personally believe there will likely be some rather noticeable differences in the next gen and PC builds of AC4 in terms of graphics.

But those differences will not take away from the visuals of current gen, they will simply be better overall.

When it comes to the important aspects of AC4, it seems the dev’s themselves are certain the subjective experience will be identical across the board…

            http://www.oxm.co.uk/63612/assassins-creed-4-on-xbox-360-is-absolutely-identical-in-feel-to-xbox-one-version-insists-ubisoft/

Hopefully, performance wise, Wii U is at least as stable as AC3, which to this day I still consider to be a gorgeous looking game on the U and one of the best performers. (Not considering the hefty amount of glitches, that happened to be present on all console versions)

        • Rinslowe

When games look great on current gen, which AC4 will, look great…
And games look great again on next gen, which they will…
And lastly but certainly not least of all PC, where the games will be visually in their prime…

Then I really fail to see your point ultimately…. It seems to me that everybody wins with AC4 bar none.
And if Wii U sits in between great and greater, how can this be bad?

    • Rinslowe

      I believe the official word from Ubisoft themselves placed the Wii U build between current gen and next? If I remember correctly;
      http://wiiudaily.com/2013/09/assassins-creed-4-visuals/

      And “if” that comment is to be taken literally then we can likely expect a similar improvement as seen in NFSMU where the guys at Eurogamer also placed that game somewhere between High Settings on PC and current gen;
      http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-need-for-speed-most-wanted-wii-u-face-off

If working by that logic we can all see the real world improvements made to NFSMW U and can remain hopeful AC4 is the same.

The ball is now back in Ubisofts court to make good on what they say!

Not to derail this next gen Wii U discussion, but I saw this trailer while watching TV last night and it looked amazing. Pirates and Assassins, two of my favorite story lines, melded into one game – I’ll definitely be picking this up at some point.

Did you notice that the commercial inside the football game only said ps and xbox. No mention of wiiu. That how much support you get from ubisoft. National commercial and no mention of the wiiu version.

  • DJKeens

Day one for me on Wii U. Would love to see how it’s looking on the console so far. The developers notes look promising.

  • Jon

Can’t wait to buy this, It’ll be awesome :)

  • Rinslowe

You know that way it’s stacking up now, I’ll be lucky to get through all the Wii U titles between now and Dec…

Still haven’t finished the W101, Pikmin 3 etc… And I’ll support the big N and Ubisoft by picking up Watchdogs, AC4 on the U as well. Then there’s WW HD, Mario 3D World, Ghosts, Batman.

    It never rains, it pours….

Two days ago, I had completed The Wonderful 101 and it was incredibly difficult in the third act. However, I’ll continue supporting Nintendo, SEGA, and Ubisoft… especially when they release Sonic Lost World, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Watch_Dogs (my #2 choice), and Super Mario 3D World!

      • Rinslowe

Yeah, there are some really great games on the way for Wii U. And not a moment too soon!

  • TAKANYAN

The Wii U is the current generation. Wii, PS3, & Xbox360 were last generation.

    • Rinslowe

I suppose it’s in the grey area now where everyone is correct.
Even after PS4 and Xbox 1 are on the market, it will take time for a full transition from 7th to 8th gen consoles in terms of games development…

      • TAKANYAN

Well when the Wii U released it was the beginning of the eighth generation.

        • Rinslowe

          True…

  • Pebbicle

Just like with AC3, I will get this for the Wii U as well. But because I’m a major AC fan I will get the Wii U version for my first playthrough and the minimap, the PC version to play multiplayer on, the PS3 version for the exclusive missions and the 360 version for the collectors edition! :D

Look guys lets be honest here. The Wii U will finish this gen in 3rd place. So what? The GameCube finished in 3rd place and it was my overall favorite system that generation. Wii U versions of multi-platform games are not going to have all the visual bells & whistles of their PS4/XB1 counterparts, sorry but they just won’t period. However, some gamers may prefer to sacrifice visuals for cool, innovative integration of the Wii U GamePad, or the off-TV play functionality that you’d have to spend an extra $200 for a Vita on the PS4. And the XB1 won’t have off-TV play only 2nd screen stuff on smartphones/tablets.

As it always has and always will, the Wii U’s success or failure will be up to Nintendo and the quality of their 1st party exclusives. Nintendo themselves needs to lead the charge and set the standards for what’s possible showing gamers and developers why the GamePad enhances gaming experiences rather than simply being a ill-advised gimmick that tried to cash in on the popularity of the iPad.

    • Josh Melton

Yup, Wii U will finish 3rd place it’s where Nintendo belongs
