Club Nintendo Europe offering Year of Luigi Coin

Club Nintendo of Europe is offering an awesome Year of Luigi commemorative coin.

luigi-year-coin

It seems like Club Nintendo in Europe typically gets the best physical rewards. Earlier this year the cute Pikmin 3 keychains were available and now, a special commemorative coin celebrating the Year of Luigi is now available. You’ll get a nifty green pouch to store the coin in and despite the hefty price of 1500 stars, no the coin isn’t actually gold.

So how about it, our European friends? Will you be snagging this reward?

i just want good digital download games, i was too late for super mario rpg and have been kicking myself since

  • SleepySkullhead

    Commence jealousy: now.

    • Baum 「ツリー」

And the coin’s not available anymore oO

  • Ace

I have been waiting for Nintendo to put something cool as a reward for us in NA…All my coins have been accumulating and there isn’t anything that I want to get. That coin looks pretty cool, but of course it is only available in Europe.

    • Baum 「ツリー」

some of our gifts are friggin’ “expensive” though…
You need to register 6 full-price games (1500 stars) for the coin and our most expensive price requieres 7000 stars, wich translate to 28(!!) games for 50-60€…it helps to register a Wii U (1000 stars) or 3DS (750 stars), but that’s still not too much points.

      • Ace

Yeah that is a lot! We don’t have anything over 600 coins here in NA right now. Everything is sold out.

        • Tim van Broekhoven

And how many coins do you get per game/system?

          • Jon

60 coins for Wii U (sometimes 40 if the game is $40), 40 for 3DS, 160 for Wii U, 100 for 3DS (160 3DSXL). Overall it works out to about 1 coin/dollar (except for on systems…obviously). Though occasionally games can get an extra 10 coins if you register within the first week or two of it’s release or it is one of the highly anticipated special games like WWHD.

          • Tim van Broekhoven

We get 250 stars for Wii U software, and also for 3DS software :)

          • Jon

so really, by about average, the ratio for starts to coins in about the same. I kind of compared them to the wrist straps since that is the only exact same thing we have on both. 2500 starts so 10 games. for us, 450 coins so 8 Wii U games or 12 3DS games. So pretty much an average of 10. Though you guys get it better for registering your systems.

      • Jon

some of your gifts are expensive…. at least you have stuff worth getting. I am sitting on 1500 coins and if I wanted to (which is by average of 12-15 games depending if it is 3DS or Wii U), I could have over 2k+ so if they offered the stuff here, I could get it if they kept them the same price by the ratio. Also, for the ratio of between the two, you got a better deal for registering your systems than we do. From what I here, you get about 250 stars a game (approx) so 1k stars would equal 240 coins(approx.) and yet we only get 160 for Wii U, 100 for 3ds (160 for 3DS XL).

Also, your most expensive items, Something we will never see again unless we got platinum status. Your figurine was a platinum status reward for us for 2010 which is something a lot of people are wanting here and would gladly pay the equivalent of 7k star or more. I even had someone offer me $150 for my own.

  • Baum 「ツリー」

I’m really glad, that I could find my codes for Pikmin 3, Wind Waker HD, Luigi U and Black Ops 2 :D

Ordered it an hour ago and it should arrive within October :3

EDIT: You guys in the US were able to get a similar coin on some events iirc

    • Luigi!

Sadly, no. Nintendo only had those events in a few locations, so unless you lived near one of them, you were out of luck. Or you could have driven/flown several hours haha.

  • Rinslowe

    Hmm…

  • Sdudyoy

IGN gave Sonic lost world a 5.8, I don’t think what they where complaining about was worth complaining but whatever.

    • BIG Franky

i hate to be “that guy” ….and i know that it is a very busy/hectic time of year for IGN so a lot of their reviews will be contracted out, but i was very surprised that they didn’t give this release at least a slightly better consideration. the guy that reviewed it has only been with IGN for a few months and has never reviewed a Nintendo game…. all of his reviews have been PS3 or Vita and have all marked “very good” or “excellent” … and even prior to IGN, this guy’s reviews on Game Revolution have only been PS3 reviews….. out of all his previous reviews, none of which have been platformers, almost all fighting games or role-playing. it just seems like a lazy assignment with very little thought put behind it… just my 2 cents.

      • Sdudyoy

Yeah, I’m waiting for better reviewers like Gamexplain to do a review, I never care for IGN, the reason I posted at all was for people to know that there was a review on the internet.

    • Johnny Be Me

I started reading the review, got two paragraphs in, and just had to stop. This reviewer isn’t all too bright. He starts off by basically stating “This isn’t an old Sonic game. They made changes to the old games and they are now using those changes.” Reviewers should review games based on the game itself as if it was a standalone game. Not reviewing it as a compare and contrast essay. This is why I’ve pretty much given up on IGN as their reviews are always about what THEY wanted to get, in relation to what they DID get.

    • Mario

Whhaat? That can’t be! I’ve seen the game in action and it looked fun to play! In fact, I want to get the game once is released! To play this new Sonic experience. And nobody, not even IGN, can tell me if a game is awesome or not.

      • Sdudyoy

I think It’s going to be a great game.

    • Arthur Jarret

IGN has babes. How can they be wrong?

  • Jon

and once again……. NA is still crap while Europe gets better stuff

  • ZeldaFan83

It makes sense they would get higher quality items since they extremely lack in sales of software and hardware so offering items like this as an incentive.

  • Eric

If only it came to NA….. though I have hardly any coins…..

    • Steven Weindel

I got the same coin minus the nifty green bag at Nintendo’s E3 event at Best Buy

      • Eric

sadly, I never got that option.

  • Maxime Lemieux

Well, in NA they did the nintendo experience stuff in the best buys and I have this Luigi coin :D

  • Doctors Tardis

At least this time I’m not jealous. I already have this coin, they gave a few of them out at the best buy events.

  • Luigi!

Does anyone know what is the comparison rate of coins to stars? If the Luigi coin comes to the States, I want to know how many coins it would be roughly.

    • Baum 「ツリー」

We get 200 Stars for a DS game.
      250 for 3DS/Wii U games
      750 for a 3DS/2DS
      1000 for a Wii U

      • Luigi!

Thanks. Someone on MyNintendoNews gave me the same numbers earlier. But it doesn’t matter. I went ahead and bought one online instead. I like the ones they gave out at the events better than the Nintendo Club one. They had color, and on the back was Luigi, rather than the Nintendo Club logo. I will still get the coin if it comes to the NA Club prizes though haha. Especially since the other prizes are all gargbage. I think you can agree that Japan gets way better prizes than the UK or NA haha. Someone needs to get it straight to where all regions (including those that don’t even have Nintendo Club) should get the same prizes!

  • Chronic Gang

DAMN the coin looks sick i want it

  • Sander van der Ham

Oh, I might be able to pick this up. Considering I never use my points I will have enough of them to order one. Will look dandy in my display cabinet for sure.

  • CEObrainz

So…I need to get 1200 more stars?

  • Arthur Jarret

Cool! I got the mario coin some time back – this’ll be a nice companion piece. Also, the small bag it comes in easily holds 5 or 6 DS/3DS games. This way, I’ll always have Luigi’s mansion 2, Mario & Luigi dream team, mario & luigi bowsers inside story, Mario kart 7 and Animal crossing (where I’m dressed as luigi) with me!

    • Wiiluigi

What Mario coin? The one that came with galaxy?

      • Arthur Jarret

Nah man, the 25th anniversary mario coin that was released in (EU) club nintendo shop.

  • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

I really wish we got more stuff in the NA club Nintendo store :/

  • readypembroke

If NA got this, I would get it just because I got 590 coins just setting there doing nothing. Will get 30 coins from the Regular Show game and 70 from Wii Party U. Might get 40 coins from the Adventure Time game and 70 from Super Mario 3D World.

    • Wiiluigi

Imagine how I feel I have like 1400 points with all the extra points coming from said games.

    • Shigeru Miyamoto

how is that Regular Show game?

      • readypembroke

I don’t have it, it comes out on the 29th

  • gtosheex

not offense, but it looks like something i could get in one of those quarter vending machines…

  • OoZic

1600 stars in my pocket, but no coin visible in the shop (the Netherlands) for me :(

  • Wiiluigi

NOA should take notes. This is cool, trophies are cool. We get calendars and tote bags.

  • WarioForever

It’s strange that Wii U Daily didn’t mention the Mario Kart 7 Trophy for 5000 points.

    • Arthur Jarret

That mario kart trophy has been in the eshop for ages… it’s a returning item – similar to the notebooks, game n watch ball reproduction and the game n watch DS collection

  • Joey Perez

I got this coin at san Diego comic con !!

  • Steve

I’m going to ask this again: what about North America? I have more than a thousand cons just collecting dust. I’d sure be interested in trading in a thousand coins for this one.

  • Shigeru Miyamoto

NOA gives out shoe laces. … and … NIntenDogs greeting cards… and rainbow wrist straps for your wii motes. LAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they haven’t changed these prizes almost over a YEAR!!!!!!!!!

  • Arthur Jarret

you know, for this price, you can also get 750 wii points (just short of a snes game on VC), the price is not really that hefty – saving stars is just sloooow. I remember when they started it you could get 5 stars each day you visited the site – and regularly full games were available for 4k. I got mario power tennis, animal crossing gamecube, gameboy micro, link cables etc. all through the star save system…

It’s too bad it’s not as interesting as it once was, the collectables are nice, but I prefer getting free games!

  • Merrfn

    That is actually epic…

  • bizzy gie

    What?!

  • C.S. Bailey

Not too far away from Platinum already, so I hope the US gets something.

  • Dell Goodman

Nothing new has really been added to the Star shop. I spent 7000 stars on the Mario team figure, just because nothing else was worth the trade in. Wanted the Legend of Zelda figure, but that was a few years old, so I lost my chance.

  • Connor Devlin

Eggghngnhnghnhg. How come they get all the cool stuff! They got Pikmin keychains, we got a 400 point tote bag. Its still pretty cool, but we should get some of the cool prises they get too.

  • devmiles

haven’t seen the coin yet on the european nintendo site but when available i’ll get one and make myself a nice coin sound ;)

  • Tim Ziervogel

    so much want…

  • demann78

    cool

  • farrellbr

is it coming to the usa
