Toki Tori and Mighty Switch Force 2 headed to Wii U

WayForward has announced that their title, Mighty Switch Force 2, originally released on the Nintendo 3DS in June, will be heading to Wii U on October 17th in North America. Europe will have to wait until October 25th. The game will be priced at $5.99. This is the second time a Mighty Switch Force game has jumped platforms and headed to the Wii U, though the first game received new stages and a visual makeover. WayForward is expected to do the same with the sequel title.

Two Tribes is also continuing their support of the Wii U by bringing the original Toki Tori game to the platform. We’ve known that they planned on bringing Toki Tori, Edge, and RUSH to the platform, but Toki Tori is confirmed to be the first of those titles headed our way and will be here by the end of the month. The original game features a much more traditional style of puzzles, with levels divided up into stages, which could be appealing to some that didn’t care for the open world map design of the second game.

Sad that Mighty Switch Force 2 won’t be upgrading its visuals, as the animated sprites for the first one on Wii U were amazing. On the other hand, though, 2 is releasing at a lower price, which would almost certainly have not been the case if they’d upgraded.

    • Brandon Betlej

Where does it say they wont be upgrading the game?

      • Levi Johansen

        Nowhere

      • Wishsong214

They stated/showed it on Twitter and when they were livestreaming to raise funds for Shantae: Half Genie Hero.

Now, they are upgrading the visuals to fit the HD/large screen, but they are not giving it the same look as the first one (the cartoon look).

    • Levi Johansen

They’re gonna give it new visuals and problably some extra stages, just like the first game.

Can’t wait for it – I have the fist game on WIi U and the second on the 3DS, but I will still buy it again because of the visuals and because I want them to make a third game :D

      • Wishsong214

New stages, yes, slighty upgraded visuals, yes, but they previewed it on their livestream a while ago and it is still in pixel/retro format, not the 2D animation overlayed on sprites that Hyper-Drive Edition on the WiiU has.

        • Levi Johansen

By the time they release it will be like Hyper Drive Edition.

          It must… :O

          Shut up, you’re making me nervous… :/

  • PremiumSaltine

After being screwed out of a promised Toki Tori 2 map editor, I will not be buying from Two Tribes.

    • CMB

Hey man, they gave out the game for free on steam if you bought it on Wii u. Sounds fair right. Due to low sales and technical problems they couldn’t bring it to Wii u. They’re better than most developers out there

    • iHateWhatULove

Why? You should be happy any developer support this weak ass console.

      • Justagamer

Trust me Wii U is not weak. But it seems as if you are a hater and that is really sad

        • Landesca

Not a hater, just a troll.

      • Nintedward

I know what you mean, dude.

          • Magnus Eriksson

            Sign that

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Well what you said can be easily taken as being serious, but even I do that a lot as well. I do agree with you though, people need to take a joke and not get worked up too much. :)

          • Arthur Jarret

Did you really laugh out loud at the point where you wrote ‘lol’?

            If so: you’re weird.

          • Nintedward

            *sigh*….
Everybody knows ”lol” isn’t used anymore to literally describe yourself laughing out loud. If you want to literally describe yourself laughing out loud, then expressions such as ”LMAO!!!” ”HAHAHAHA” or even just lol in capital letters with some exclamation marks such as ”LOL!!!!”
lol has just become a little word to emphasize the humorous value of the comment. EG -” I see what you did there, lol….” =/= ”hhahahaha I see what you did there, LOL!!!!”

          • Arthur Jarret

Yup, the world has gone weird. LMAO is the equivalent of a smile, ROFL is a short laugh…

It’s just, if you read what’s there in the text – and impose the actual meaning of each abbreviation used on the internet while reading it, you will walk away with some odd impressions of people around the globe in general. This, in turn, is actually funnier than the supposed funny comment someone makes where he or she has to use such an abbreviation of undisclosed real-life link.

Sorry… I get a bit long-winded when I’m tired. TL; DR – internet is stupid and approaching it in a noob style is funny.

        • Magnus Eriksson

Yeah, murder him is a suitable punishment for writing comments you disagree with. Isnt that right mr T. Bundy?

      • Justagamer

If you think it’s a weak ass console than why comment here troll go to the xbone page or ps4 page and stop crying here

    • andrewjcole

The game didn’t sell well. They gave you something to make up. Be thankful they didn’t just ignore it or stick their tongue out and say “No Editor, that’s life!”

    • TrueWiiMaster

Suit yourself. They gave you a free Steam copy of the game and did a huge update to make the Wii U version better, but if you don’t like their games enough to buy them at dirt cheap prices, that’s up to you.

    • darkcreap

I agree with the previous three comments. I bought Toki Tori 2 for Wii U, as well as some more downloadable games and already got my downloadable Steam copy.

It did not sell well and it was not straightforward to port it to WiiU because it was designed to work with a PC interface. They supported the console and were nice listening to feedback in Miiverse, apart from making contests. I did not participate on them, but it’s nice from them. And they gave us the Steam version.

They are indies, they don’t have the man power and money of other studios. They have done a lot of things right, I think it is unfair to be pissed towards them. It pisses me when third parties do not put effort in WiiU (You heard me there, EA?), but these people have done a lot of great things, even if in the end I did not like Toki Tori 2 as much as I expected.

  • Cyberus

    1. Meh
    2. Were’nt these already on Wii U?

    • Edward

No Toki Tori 2 and Mighty Switch Force HD were.

      • Cyberus

        Awh, got ya

  • Edward

I will be getting both. That would put me at 9 total Independent games(not counting VC games).

  • Zuxs13

Wow $5.99 i will pick this up for sure. My Monster Hunter 3 DL reward will pay for it. Wayforward also deserves the support.

  • SomeFluffer64

Guess I’ll be playing Toki Tori on Halloween!

  • Justagamer

I’ll pass on these..I did not like being lied to and two tribes did with toki 2 so they won’t be getting my money..sorry

    • Jon

      how did they lie?

      • Zuxs13

He is angry about the level editor not coming to Toki Tori 2

        • Daniel Gonzalez

The game is fine without it.

          • Justagamer

Hey love indie games and the looks of the game are awesome but the gameplay bored me to death and can’t like everything but any good indie games you can recomend

          • Daniel Gonzalez

            Giana Sisters:Twisted Dreams
            Trine 2
            Little Inferno
            DuckTales:Remastered
            Cloudberry Kingdom

They’re games that I’ve played, unless you already have.

          • Shota

            DuckTales:Remastered isn’t indie

          • Daniel Gonzalez

I’m well aware. I added it in cause it costs as much as an indie title.

          • Shota

            oh ok then, my apologies

          • Daniel Gonzalez

            It’s okay. No harm done.

          • Justagamer

I have them all already but im ready for more i saw on the nintendo channel that many more are coming

      • Justagamer

By claiming they have a level builder and we would get it and then pull last min so yes that is a lie

    • CMB

make your levels on steam, you got your free copy right ;)

      • Justagamer

Nah I don’t do PC gaming but more to power to those who do

    • TrueWiiMaster

A level editor isn’t very good if there’s not much of an online community. Apparently there aren’t enough people who bought the Wii U version to have such a community, so they scrapped the level editor. They gave free copies of the Steam version to make up for it anyway. A lot of developers wouldn’t do anything.

Besides, Toki Tori will be only $2 when it launches on the Wii U. If you liked Toki Tori 2 enough to be upset about the editor, you should seriously consider buying Toki Tori 1 at such a good price.

      • Andrew Chambers

Some people will look for any reason to hate 3rd parties. It’s not like Two Tribes isn’t trying. People were happy with the game and the upcoming update, but then the dev realized that they didn’t have enough resources to deliver what they wanted. I’d rather have the other three games released then to get a mostly unused level editor on TT2. I will be picking up Toki Tori, I have it on my 3DS, it’s worth it.

        • Justagamer

I don’t hate thirds parties i just wish they would keep there word

  • Sydney Ultrasyd

Please tell me that the music of MSF2 is by Jake Kaufman aka Virt again = instant buy

  • Brandon Betlej

I think this is wayforwards way of telling nintendo to lower the prices of virtual console

  • Daniel Gonzalez

Have Toki Tori on PC, I say it’s worth the money to give it a go. MIghty Switch Force I know little about, however.

    • Wishsong214

Mighty Switch Force is pretty fantastic. It’s a hybrid action-puzzle-platformer. From what I understand, 2 is pretty much just as good as 1 but doesn’t add on too much more, so, if you’re a bit strapped for cash and want to get it, I’d definitely pick up 2 when it releases.

  • Hulkamania

i could have sworn that i saw this on the nintendo store on my wii u

  • ItzameyaToad
