Retailers still don’t know the difference between Wii and Wii U

wii-wii-u-mixup

As we move into the busy holiday season when everyone will be busy shopping for gifts for their family and friends, it’s more important now than ever for companies to stand out among the crowd. US retailer Fred Meyer is doing no favors for Nintendo, as you can see above they’re advertising a Wii U Sports Resort bundle. The problem is it doesn’t exist. That’s a Wii Sports Resort bundle. There’s going to be a lot of problems this holiday season among confused consumers and retailers advertising the Wii U like this certainly doesn’t help.

Have you seen any mix-ups like this in your local advertisements?

  • Veries Seals

    Now that is just dumb!

    • Nintenjoe82

Is that stupid or are they trying to con naive parents into thinking they’re getting the new console they saw advertised on X-factor.?

      • boynhisblobs

Why would they con them into the cheaper console? It’s just a bad name on Nintendo’s part. The name and the look of the console are just too similar. It doesn’t help that nintendo releases new colors and design all the time, like the 2ds and the xl.

        • Nintenjoe82

because they probably make about $50 profit from selling this bundle and about $30 profit from a competitively priced Wii U bundle.

      • RockieOllie

I’m with boynhisblobs, Nintendo made a poor choice when it came to the consoles name…along with other things. I do think the retailers deserve some blame for not doing research, but this is more so Nintendo’s fault.

        • Nintenjoe82

I don’t think it’s as bad a name choice as people say and if anything the name ‘confusion’ just adds to its publicity. So far it’s suffered from bad/no marketing, no games and being the butt of the joke for everything in gaming. Everyone will know it’s a new console by the time smash and mk come out and if it’s struggling after that then it is deader than its 3rd party support.

          • RockieOllie

Well clearly from this article and many others (like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3FZKBYKspQ) This is very confusing to the general public and generating publicity in the worst possible way.
I’m sure people will go to stores asking for Mario Kart 8 for the Wii when they mean Wii U

          • Nintenjoe82

There is no such thing as bad publicity and a stupid name will make you more famous than not. Just look at Paris Hilton.

People asking that question will then be informed of what they need to buy. They will then have an interesting bit of info to share with their friends about this crazy new Wii ‘EWE’

          • RockieOllie

There is such as bad publicity. And in this situation, I don’t think Paris Hilton/Kim Kardashian is the right comparison. Because good or bad they get noticed. If the Wii is being publicized, the Wii gets publicity, not the Wii U.
Sure Wii sales still equates to profit, but that’s not going to help 3rd Parties make games for the Wii U.

          • MichelChartrand

I really don’t think it’s the name itself causing confusion, it’s the ignorance of the media that perpetuates the confusion.
If stores started advertising the Xbox 360 as “Xbox one Bundle” it might be just as bad.
Advertising mishaps like these are causing people to get confused.
Adding “U” to the name shouldn’t have been any more confusing than adding “360” to “Xbox”, nor replacing “360” with “One”.
Same with PSP, PSP3000, PSVita, Nintendo DS, 3DS, etc.

People wouldn’t be so confused if the places they go to for information would stop confusing them.

    • Derk

I really don’t blame the stores. The Wii U is confusing and all of its best games are old remakes. SMBU, MH3U, Wii Sports U, etc.

      • greengecko007

I blame both parties. Nintendo obviously could have picked a much better name for their new console, but it’s also the job of whoever is making these ads to correctly present the product.

      • Rich Garriques

not confusing at all their just stupid including you ,first off the box is different it has a screen tablet controller wii does not. how hard is that to see do you and them need a diagram.

        • Daniel Gonzalez

To be fair, the Wii U looks much like the Wii in appearance and putting the Wii U Gamepad in front of it will give consumers the impression that it’s just another Wii with a new controller.

Is it stupid? Perhaps, but maybe Nintendo should have came up with a better name so to not confuse it with the Wii.

          • Shota

go to that store and buy a wii u for 99 bucks daniel XD

          • Daniel Gonzalez

If it actually was, I’d take it cheap. Lol.

        • Derk

A slight difference in aesthetics doesn’t automatically mean “new console” or else people would think the PS3 slim was a new console as well. The 2ds must be a completely new console w different games because it doesn’t fold like the 3ds and the name is different, right?

I feel bad for these stores because video game fans are highly critical of the smallest things and they throw it in the news. This is an honest mistake.

          • greengecko007

The 2DS is also causing confusion. My teenage sister who keeps up with Pokemon news quite regularly thought that Pokemon X and Y being compatible with the 2DS meant she could play them on her original DS.

          • Ice Climbers

The 3DS itself was causing confusion – people thought it was just another model of the DS (and some still do). Thankfully, retailers actually tried to clear confusion by limiting their DS stuff and, for a while, separating the DS and 3DS stuff. Now they just throw the leftover DS stuff in with the 3DS stuff.

If Nintendo was able to recover from the confusion people had with the 3DS, they can do it with Wii U.

          • Arthur Jarret

That’s not just gamers…. that’s a distinct human trait… trust me, I work in product development and I handle all cases too complicated for our service dept. (so… almost all service cases…) – I know.

      • Peter Lythaby

Derk these people must take some blame – after all they do order the stock.

  • fireheartis1

I keep saying this there are just some retailers that are really, dare I say, stupid. That’s why at Kmart I had to explain what it is to that woman and the guy who worked in the Electronic Section.

    • MichelChartrand

Yeah they’re not always the brightest when it comes to their departments. Went in on launch day for the physical copy of Super Luigi U at Wal-Mart, they didn’t have any copies on display and the worker thought it was digital only, even though there were displays all over advertising it. I think someone forgot to unpack the box in the back. I know not to expect great things from Wal-Mart employees because they’re not necessarily paid so well to know everything there is to know, but it does get annoying to walk into the games section of a store and get a weird look when asking about something fairly normal to gaming. “Do you have any Wii U charging cradles?” ….”Wheeee…You?”

  • diqus sucks

Know the job or dont have the job. Damn people. Google….GOOGLE!!

  • Henry Hotspur

Could have just given it a new name. It would’ve been that god damn easy . . .

  • Googs

Holy shit, are they retarded or something?

    • The True Gamer

No, Wii u is just a terrible name

  • Ducked

I can get a Wii U for $99?!?! OMIGOSH! lol

    • Veries Seals

Now you know what we should all do. Go there and make them give us $99 Wii U’s because they advertised it. They have to honor it.

      • Ducked

I agree! That’s exactly what they should do, they even have the Wii U logo on it.

  • Lusunup

Do they live in caves or something?? or are they stupid. You can use simple logic “oh! the cases are blue! that must mean something!”

    • Ducked

      They live in caves

      • gtosheex

well i live in a cave but i still know the difference! =P

  • Leo

If Nintendo wanted so badly to continue with the Wii brand they should have named it just “Wii 2″ or “Super Wii” or whatever. Branding it as “WiiU” clearly is one of the worst decisions ever made. Anyway, there isn’t much they can do until the original Wii disappears from the shelves.

    • ItzameyaToad

Nintendo would never number there consoles think thats out of the picture and I could see just as much confusion around Super Wii as there is around Wii U. People would think oh it’s just another version of Wii. Also it boggles the mind that Nintendo have not pulled Wii from the shelves yet haha seems to make the problem worse having another console with Wii in the name.

      • Leo

I think too that Nintendo probably would never number their consoles, but if they do it at least it would be more clear to this clueless people that this is indeed a brand new system. As for Super Wii, it sounds just nicer and it would appeal for those who lived through the SNES days… not that Nintendo cares though… But anyway, unless Nintendo pulled the Wii from the shelves this situation will go on for at least one more year.

  • Theiz Zzee

I guess confused advertising is better than none at all lol. Let’s hope customers do not come across employees like these alleged ones looking for help. http://www.gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=214637 .

  • Green

The thing thats terrible here is the Wii’s market was targeting towards casual’s, and the average person DOES NOT read these type of articles and doesn’t use the internet to research. I do think the name was very dumb right when they announced it I thought the name was dumb, but the console really is cool it just needs some games. I hope Nintendo would be willing to change the name =. I know its not going to happen, but I feel they really really should call it something else.

    • ItzameyaToad

The name IMO is good Nintendo just needs to do a better job at advertising and educating people.

      • Green

,but if you say Wiiu Wii U Wiiu 3 times in a row it sounds like an ambulance lol. Anyways I think if we get games like say Monster Hunter with that quality level of action, then the Wii u will have no issues what so ever. I mean Monster HUnter is <3 X looks to have similiar online play to Monster Hunter so why not produce games like that? I think it'd work out great.

  • ItzameyaToad

Its 1 part Nintendo’s fault the other half retailers. It’s simple retailers need to make sure employees both in the store and in advertising know the differences in items being sold or at least a basic knowledge. I don’t blame them completely though as Nintendo should have helped the retailers educate people and put out more commercials. And the funny thing is is most of these retailers have someone in the store that know something about any item but when it comes to one section of the store everything falls apart.

    • Veries Seals

I am a Graphic Designer, which we make adverts for publications. I need to to know why you feel that Nintendo had anything to do with this retailers advertisements? Big retailers have their own in house marketing departments or they sub contract their advertisements to an external marketing firm. What has happened here is they had a break down in QA. No one checked these ads to make sure they were correct before they were approved, published and went to print production. Nintendo has nothing to do with the retailers advertisements unless it is a display sent from nintendo themselves. In this case Nintendo’s in house advertisement and marketing teams go through the same process. You can not blame Nintendo for this retailer not checking what they are publishing for their sale. And it is not Nintendo’s job to come down to the retailer, which bought units from Nintendo to sale and make a profit to train the retailers, employees. That is again the retailer’s responsibilities.

      • Denvy

I think he’s pointing out the fact that Nintendo has failed to differentiate the Wii from the WiiU causing confusion on the part of the in house marketing.

        • mrjoedawgbrother

If you’re in marketing, shouldn’t you do the research for the product you’re marketing? My thoughts….

          • Veries Seals

Yes, you should. That is why this is not Nintendo’s fault. It is the fault of the retailers marketing team.

        • Veries Seals

I honestly think this statement is untrue. Nintendo did the same with Wii U that they did with all of their other consoles. From introductory announcement to sending out printed information to fans and retailers. What we have here is consumers not reading and assuming it is the same thing. If you read you will clearly know it is not the same thing. I never mistook the two devices. If you half read, you half understand.

          • Denvy

People who are considered “gamers” are in the know from the very first announcement of a new system. Of course you or I will know.

  • https://twitter.com/Onyzora Ony

Can’t Nintendo send a letter or even a mail to all the big retailer to slap them and explain what is the Wii U?

  • akaDenver

should have just named it “Super Wii”

  • Daniel Carvalho

You know you can now get a Wii U (the actual console) for $99,99 on that store, right? According to the law, they have to practice the price they announce for the product that’s showcased. They’ll have to sell you the Wii U, with a Wii Remote Plus Controller, Nunchuck, Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort for 100 bucks, as promised on the advertisement.

If you’re a lawyer, or have a relative/friend that studies law, show up on that store with him/her, take that advertisement with you and get your precious console + all those items for less than 100 bucks. You’ll be acting accordingly to your rights, and there’s nothing they can do to not sell it. There’s nothing written on smaller letters saying otherwise on that piece of paper, so they have no defense in court!

    • Razo_E

You’re what’s wrong with the world. They’re ignorant, but don’t deserve to be defrauded. Just correct them and let them know they used the wrong logo.

      • SkullScience

WHAT!!! It couldn’t be that the company are trying to take advantage of recent research that said most non-gamers (mom’s) could not differentiate between Wii and Wii U. If you advertise a product you MUST sell as advertised!! They are not being defrauded, I assume they employ marketing staff who SHOULD know their own job!!! If it is a harsh lesson to be learned for them then so be it. I can’t believe you stood up for the company. Ignorance must truly be bliss!!

      • Yen

They’re the ones not doing research and putting out false advertisement. Their own fault. It’s not that hard of a thing to distinguish between Wii and Wii U. Parents that get confused is at fault too because if I’m going to buy a console for my family I’m for sure researching it and not just listen to my whiny kid or some random ad I saw.

      • Daniel Carvalho

Before I keep the argument, please read the replies for Agent721 bellow.

Now, if you’ve taken your time to read what I wrote, you may understand my point now. Either they’re doing it on purpose, to confuse consumers, or mistakenly advertising their products, which shows lack of professionalism. The later one could be forgiven, if it was half a year ago, while Nintendo still wasn’t advertising the Wii U as they are now.

When you work with marketing, you have to research about the products you are working with, know it’s selling points, and study the best way to advertise it to the right public. I doubt they haven’t done that when they started creating it.

      • Rinslowe

Any system should favour the seller should they show an interest and action in changing said promotion upon being officially notified of the original mistake… If no change, then the seller is responsible for any and all discrepancies arising from such actions or lack thereof…

      • Jonathan George Anaya

Funny thing is: this place will be sued by losers. Then, Fred Meyers will effectively pull their ENTIRE STOCK of Wii’s and Wii I’s. Who losers then? European customers and Nintendo themselves. One less Major Retailer stocking Nintendo Consoles

        • Arthur Jarret

What does this have to do with european customers???

          • Rajani Isa

Yeah, since the only Fred Meyer’s store I know of is a chain – owned by Kroger Co – in the US Northwest.

    • Robert

As much as I wish that was true (and I’ll admit I don’t know the letter of the law), I’m sure there must be a part of that law that says since they clearly show the picture and clearly show the regular price and “Save $30″ and can show that it’s clearly a typo, I don’t think they would have to give you an entirely different product like that. Now if they advertised the Wii U and typed the wrong price – that would be different. But when it’s a totally different product like that (and they showed the picture of what is actually on sale) I’m not sure that plan will work. HOWEVER, I would try it if there was one local because getting another Wii U for $99.99 would be sickkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

      • http://skoruppa.jogger.pl skoruppa

Typo? No :P They used WiiU logo after all ;)

        • Robert

They also used the Wii price. And a picture of the original Wii… So what’s your point?

          • Daniel Carvalho

Point is that, although I haven’t really studied advocacy, I do know that, at least in Brazil, you have to practice the price offered on the advertisement. If the price they used is the same as the Wii, it changes nothing. The image could be used on their defense, since they could just say they confused the Wii with the Wii U, but they also used the Wii U logo and clearly typed “Wii U” on the description of the product. That’s where their defense falls.

          • boynhisblobs

It would go to court. They would never honor it there in the store. You;d have to hire an attorney, sue them for misconduct and be rewarded your money or receive a settlement. Not really worth it for a $100 discount, the attorney fees would be higher for just one hour of consulting on the case.

          • Rinslowe

Actually depends entirely on your counsels opinion of a favourable outcome.
All costs involved will be bourne by the guilty party should they choose to move forward with arbitration…

          • Arthur Jarret

If you’d organize a group of several hundred people to sue as a collective, it’d be worth it…

          • zajac1661

Well. You know most companies are working with external media producers. It could as well be a third part involvement, who sit with the issue. In the store i worked for years, many customers thought it as a right when there were wrong price tags. It was in the stores morale to give the customer the price standing on the shelf, but according to the law, we could deny it.. We had false advertisement once, because of a printing mistake. (A big store chain i work at) But there were no case of the company being “juridical bound” in any way. That information is often misled and made up by consumers. All there had to be done, was send out a notification, and a sign of paper at the door.
We always give customers what stands on the sign below any given product. Sometimes there will be a denial though, when people obiously tries to cheat at times.
According to danish laws, the salesman has to “notify” about the error, if a person calls by phone and orders a product as a example. If the salesman forgets to notify about the error, the deal should be juridical bound(because the salesman accepted the deal, and the customer were shopping by good thought)

In this case you were aware of the error, and would never get hold in “court” if you ever had any intentions to take the case there.

            Regards from Dk.

          • Daniel Carvalho

Thanks for the info. Guess things change from country to country, so it all comes up to how each part is deciding to deal with the problem. Where I worked at, it didn’t matter what the actual price was, if there was a mistake on the advertising with the price, the consumer would take the product with that altered price and the workers would have to pay off the missing part.

You made well to remember that it could be a third party work. If so, the marketing company should take responsibility if the retailer sees itself forced to sell Wii U’s by that price. But in the end, as you said, there are also laws that protect both retailers and marketing companies, giving them the right to correct themselves. Let’s see how things turn around for them.

          • Rajani Isa

Having worked at Fred Meyer’s, if there is an mistake on a price it’s often honored (one instance was someone stocked aluminum foil were plastic wrap was supposed to be – the person who said “but the shelf said $2 got that ~$6 roll for $2) – but in an instance like this there is most likely a note on the case stating “Sorry to inform you of an error…” and make the correction about what is actually on sale. They do it all the time when an item becomes unavailable too late for them to change the ad.

There is also the fact that this is advertising a bundle that doesn’t exist – which can have it’s own complications. But They would have some protection from the fact that there is no “Wii U Sports Bundle” (to my knowledge)

      • Arthur Jarret

It’s likely possible… law in the US is crazy, illogical and always seems to protect those that can take advantage of others….

So GO guys GO: make this chain of stores go bankrupt!

        • Shawn White

Its to discourage false advertising and bait and switch tactics. They can always retract the ad.

    • Rinslowe

      Amen…

It’s either admit the fault and get current, or show me the Wii U + @ $99.99, end of story.

    • Magnus Eriksson

      Thats not true. Im sorry.

At least that goes for Norway and Sweden.

  • Agent721

The fact that this is happening is all on Nintendo. What a marketing f up.

    • Daniel Carvalho

To be fair, Nintendo has already been advertising th Wii U fairly well, specially with the Wind Waker HD bundle. Not the ideal for what the console needs, but enough to clear some misunderstandings.

Also, let’s not forget that retailers have to know what they’re selling, know more about their products. I doubt Nintendo gave away a shipment of Wii U and told them it was the original Wii. I worked on a few stores before, and used to replace the stocks, I know very well that every shipment has a description of the products inside, as well as the bar code and other informations. If they took their time to set the price for Wii U differently from the original Wii, they know it’s not the same product (different bar code, different shipment trucks, different product description, different bundles).

That kind of mistake has only two possibilities: the marketing sector doesn’t know the products they’re working with (and thus should be remodeled/fired), or they are doing it on purpose, to use the Wii to get attention towards the Wii U, which is a stupid way of doing it, since they could advertise it as a HD Wii, next Wii, Wii Successor, and explain the Wii U has all the features the Wii had and much more. Either way, it’s that store’s fault only.

      • Leo

You know, you got a point. Isn’t being rumored that Sony is promoting a savage campaing behind the scenes along with some retailers to mislead potential consumers about the WiiU? It wouldn’t surprise me if Sony is behind this mess to undermine the competition… you know they are the type. Anyway, Nintento should take responsability for it and fight for the system against whatever possible reason is causing this confusion.

        • Lil J Moore

If you said that before E3 I’d call you crazy. but what happen to me at best buy with the MS employee going to the WiiU booth to talk bad about the WiiU I think this might be possibility.

    • Nintenjoe82

It’s not all on Nintendo but they should have sacked their first marketing companies earlier on. They should have been in bed with all the retailers but instead Sony and MS have probably gotten in there and caused them a load of pain that will affect them for the whole of this gen.

The biggest worry for me is the ‘next-gen pre-order lists’ in GAME. Basically a list of games coming out on Wii U but the only versions on their pre-order list were PS3,PS4,Xbox1,Xbox360.

      • Daniel Gonzalez

So you mean the way through a marketers heart is to sleep with him or her? That just may work.

        • Nintenjoe82

No, more like the way to keep the prime shelf space in GAME is by Iwata pimpin Reggie’s ass out to the retailers. It’s ok, his body is ready.

      • Agent721

You’re right, it’s not all on Nintendo, but much of it is. It’s their product, but the fact that so many retailers & customers don’t know it’s a new system tells me marketing fd up big time. Someone needs to get fired. And for such a cool system, it’s really a Damn shame.

    • Rinslowe

      Edited…
      ;)

      • Agent721

Huh…I’m a HUGE Nintendo fan bud…I’m just speaking the truth. I want the Wii U to succeed, badly, but I’m not blindly defending Nintendo like a fool either.

        • Daniel Gonzalez

          Spoken like a good fan.

        • Rinslowe

I may have been a bit harsh… Sorry pal.

But the truth you are not speaking when regarding these stella individuals! Who need to take this promotional blunder all on themselves.
Honestly I’m surprised people are still trying to run with the “no-one knows that the Wii U is a new console” line…

  • SleepySkullhead

The big blue U on the boxes aren’t clear enough?

    • Leo

Big blue “U”? I only see a tiny “u” there. lol

      • SleepySkullhead

It’s big on the box. If it isn’t a bundle, an entire side is dedicate to the U alone.

  • Denvy

Not really news. We’ve known this has been happening for a year now? Most likely a typo at that price.

  • steve

if people think this is bad, just wait for xbox one lol

    • MichelChartrand

“I’m trying to find an XBone, do you have any XBone’s? That’s what it says on my sons list..Why are you laughing at me? Does that mean you’re sold out of XBones?”

  • Angelo G

It seems that they either dont know how to do their job or they dont care. Do they confuse Xbox…Xbox 360….Xbox One? or PS…PS2….PS3….PS4? It would just take one minute to know the difference between any of these consoles.

    • boynhisblobs

Come this holiday season with 6-7 home consoles floating around the market, there will be some definite confusion.

Did little timmy want the ps3 or ps4? I can’t remember now…. Oh wait, maybe it’s this PS TV that plays vita games? So, was it X1, PS3, PS4 or PSTV? Maybe WIIU? Awww man….They’re all black….does that help?

    • The True Gamer

It’s because Wii u sounds like an attachment, not a system.

      • Angelo G

If you are not familiar with video games i definitely see how this can easily be mistaken. The Xbox naming can also be confusing. Sony’s approach i think is the best. But retailers should not be making mistakes like this especially if they dont want to run into problems with customers.

        • The True Gamer

Xbox one is confusing at first, but I think that since Xbox is an established name, unlike Wii which has been only one system before Wii u, Xbox one will be more recognizable to consumers.

  • mrjoedawgbrother

This is the part when you go into Fred Meyer, and ask for a brand new Wii U for $100. GO! GO! GO!

I’m in UK and have a hard time finding any high street store that sells wii u games – let alone the console. I have to get my games from Amazon. Nintendos marketing of the wii u has been abysmal – most people don’t know the console even exists.
Its a shame as I think its a great console and love the gamepad – especially for the net, youtube etc. Honestly never stopped using the thing since I got it. Just hope things don’t go belly up for it when xbone and ps4 come out.

    • Ashman997

I live in the UK too and I only find that it’s supermarkets and HMV who seem to lack Wii U games,

Have you been to GAME/Grainger Games

    • Veries Seals

You don’t have to worry about that. Seems like Sony cant even keep their lunch line up. They have already lost Watch Dogs, which I know is a multiplat but it was a major part of their launch line up, now drive club. Most of their “NEXT GEN” games are rescheduled for 2014. I seriously think the Sony train is going to slow down faster than most think.

    • CEObrainz

It seems you’re not searching hard enough, stores like Curry’s/PC World, Argos, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Toys ‘r’ us, Asda, etc all have Wii U games on display. Then of course stores like GAME would definitely have Wii U games otherwise they couldn’t call themselves game stores.

  • Lil J Moore

People really can’t be this stupid………………… can they?

    • Mario

      I think so.

  • Archiq09

they have not see to box has no “U” on Wii Box?

  • Marcel Kleine

Those people should just die, discussion ended

You can go to the Fred Meyer site and send them a comment about the false advertisement. https://customer.fredmeyer.com/comments/comments.aspx

some people are to stupid to read the box u.u

  • tronic307

I actually like the name “Wii U”. Trouble is, most people are confused by it, and certain in their misconceptions. I wonder if Nintendo bothered to do any focus group testing before finalizing the name.
Any iteration of the Wii name has long lost it’s 2006 fizz in the public eye. A once boundlessly energetic name has now become duller than lead.

Seems like Nintendo has worn out their Wii.

  • Angelo G

They should have just named it “Nintendo’s new console – the one after the Wii that is HD and has a cool controller with a screen but it is NOT the Wii but still plays Wii games”….but I dont think that would fit on the box.

  • FredMirotic

He’s giving “Freds” everywhere a bad name!!!

    • Rinslowe

“I play my part and you play your game
You give Fred’s a bad name (bad name)
You give Fred’s…… a bad name

dada dada dadadada dada dada dadadaaa…

      • FredMirotic

        Hmm…

It’s like Bon Jovi knew this day would come… And they wrote an anthem, just for you Fred….

            I love you

  • Rinslowe

    Two words, one possibility;

    Impossible or Sabotage…

  • Nintenjoe82

I think PS4 and Xbone will actually help the Wii U (despite everyone thinking they will finish the Wii U off):
    1. Consumers will have 3 options with Wii U being considerably cheaper and with more games this xmas.
    2. Many gamers will wait for PS4 and Xbone to get going before investing because nobody knows which will be the better choice when the good games actually appear.
    3. PS4 and Xbox will have teething troubles and everyone has hyped them so much that they’ve set them up for a bigger fall when things don’t quite go as planned.
    4. Neither have anything like a killer app.

    • tom

Good point. However the PS3 and Xbox 360 is cheaper vs the Wii U and still selling very well. I totally agree with you that the ps4 and xbone will likely be overrated.

    • The True Gamer

Wii u really doesn’t have any games to get sales from the non Huge Nintendo fans. Xbox one and ps4 have many third party games releasing in the next few years while with the Wii u third party support is uncertain

  • http://people.ign.com/pdxmojo81 Pdxmojo81

Pretty sure this is just a typo.

  • gamesplayswill

    … *Slaps the world*

  • Jack5221

My local store, Vertigo, does a good job advertising to be honest. Even though I hate that store because they over price EVERYTHING they at least know the difference between Wii U and Wii. The biggest of their stores has a booth where you can play both a Wii and Wii U, and it actually tells you the difference and explains the upgrades of Wii U. Only problem… A 32 Wii U is almost 600$ here in Costa Rica…

    • Rinslowe

      Did you say Costa Heap’a?

  • Leo

And people wonder why the industry is on the verge of bankruptcy. Just go to a random store next year and you will see shelves filled with stuck games from DS, 3DS/2DS, Wii, WiiU, Xbox360, XboxOne, PS3, PS4, PSP, PSVita, PC, and the soccer moms having no idea what to take home.

  • Aleksander

Haha FFS are they still not knowing the difference between Wii and Wii u the console have been out for the market almost 1 year and people still not know its a new console. come on folks are you living under a rock!

  • GermGerm

At this point it is the retailers own fault. They’ve been selling the Wii U for almost a year now. Employees need to get familiar with their product.

  • Brandon Gardner

Nintendo really just needs to discontinue selling the Wii buy back all the wiis from retailers and focus on the Wii U

  • goldenfirered136

I saw one where the ad said you could play your 3ds games on your DS and also one saying you could play your Wii U games on your Wii

  • Kenshin0011

Obviously Nintendo has to take control of this problem themselves, because this isn’t the only retailer who has done this….but really? If you’re publishing an ad for a major retailer and you can’t get this right after year being out and just a little bit of proofreading, I blame the stupid employees.

  • Christopher Acuna

Only thing I have seen is Mixing Wii and WiiU together instead separating the products. I am sure once the XONE and PS4 are out all these retailers will do their best to separate one gen from the other but that is not happening with Nintendo. See most of the cluster cuss of product placement in Best Buy and Wal-Mart.

  • Ryan Williamson

I hardly ever see any commercials for the wii u. Most people don’t know if exists.

  • Mark Thom

    what a fucking shame NINTENDO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Gregg

    This makes my head hurt….

    • Daniel Gonzalez

Probably a good time to invest in a bottle of asprin.

  • Truthteller

I doubt if there will be any problems because people won’t be looking for a Wii or Wii U.

    • Jon

Can you tell me the next lottery numbers please since you claim to see the future?

      • Truthteller

Ask that same questions when Nintendo people say: “When Mario Kart and 3D Mario come out, the Wii U WILL sell and come like the 3DS!” Those people claim to know that the Wii U will sell…

        • ItzameyaToad

They use common sense and what big first party games have done to boost Nintendo sales in the past. Its like someone saying “Pokemon will boost 3DS sales when it comes out” it is a givin that that game will help sell more consoles seeing as past Pokemon games have been really big in sales and have boosted there systems sales. There not predicting anything that a normal person with observation skills can’t see when looking at past sales. Your comment is based upon an opinion of a console that hasn’t done so well but there is evidence that shows it is selling better and evidence that Nintendo consoles sell alot so your comment holds no water.

  • springer85

LOL why are you all trying to blame the retailers? It is ALL Nintendos fault!
THEY are the ones who STUPIDLY called it WII U which is way to similar to Wii Fit which was an ADD ON for the Wii!!!
All they had to do was call it Wii 2 and all this confusion for over 11 months would have been avoided!!
After 6 months Nintendo should have changed the name but no they are to stuborn and still think it’s about the games when 80 percent of the gaming world STILL THINK it is as add on and not a brand new console!!!

    • Jon

Like the name Xbox One is any better….

      • Truthteller

You have to deal with the matter at hand – Wii U.

        • Jon

oh, sorry, I didn’t realize my comment offended you

  • Benjah

Hey this is not good for business. Why the would fred do this? Oh I know why cause they r ignore and that other stores do business fine by nintendo and not this idiots.

  • springer85

The 3DS and 2DS are leading the way for Nintendo and are destroying the Vita.
Nintendo should see where they are at end of next year and if the Wii U is still struggling then they should just discontinue it, as all the money they are spending trying to revive it could be out to better use making a brand new console!

  • Joey

People are stupid that’s just my opinion and Fred Meyer get a life your that stupid too. Xbox One is a stupid name as well being confused from Xbox360. People are blind to see the difference.

    • springer85

LMFAO!!MASSIVE difference is that the gaming world ALREADY know that Xbox One is a next gen console, the gaming world still think the Wii U is just an add on!!

  • springer85

Poor Nintendo Sonic Lost World that they hoped would be a system seller for the WII U is getting utter mediocre reviews for both WII U and the 3DS!!
Think it is time SEGA stop making rehash Sonic games as they are just destroying their image!!

    • Jon

Just so you know, Nintendo doesn’t make Sonic or even own the Sonic IP. Congratulations for being a idiot. Also, learn what rehash means as this sonic game is not like the other really at all.

      • springer85

LMFAO you Idiot suggest you go and read my comment above again!!

        • Jon

“Think it is time Nintendo stop making rehash Sonic games as they are just destroying their image!!”

yeah, NINTENDO DID NOT MAKE THIS GAME, IT WAS MADE BY SEGA. Nintendo DOES NOT own Sonic so Nintendo does not have the choice if another sonic game is made or not. They don’t have the game, they don’t own the IP.

You should learn what 3rd party vs 1st party is.

          • springer85

LMFAO again think you need to read my comment again!!!LMFAO!!!

          • Jon

I quoted your comment…. I pointed out the exact spot where you are wrong. But then you went and changed it trying to be smart.

          • springer85

LMFAO i did not change anything you are just to dumb to realise what i was saying jumping to conclusions!!
            LMFAO

          • Eric

Actually, you have Nintendo there. I haven’t refreshed the page yet.

          • NkoSekirei

ignore him hes just plain retarded and always be retarded thats why their called trolls

          • Daniel Gonzalez

“stfu dude u sound more like a broken record dumb@$$”

No offense Nko, but don’t you often respond back to trolls who say similar things? Like the quote above? You should really practice what you preach.

  • I_I

how stupid can you get one is much bigger in both the console and the controller and the other is small so, it’s very clear that retailers want to scams people by selling them the Wii as the Wii U. They should be punished by the Law

  • DJKeens

This is simply inexcusable at this point. I say again: we know iPhone 5S and 5C are new phones, X1 and PS4 are new consoles, 3DS is not DS and XL is a different handheld as well, why is it hard to recognize that Wii U is not Wii? Heck they even understand the new Pokémon X/Y 3DS is new. Nintendo could do a better job of advertising but only directly to the consumer. These adverts are someone at Fred Meyer who isn’t doing their job correctly. “Hey why does this ‘Wii’ have a different MSRP and SKU? TLDR, must be another Wii bundle.”
Next article well no doubt see NoE heading to Fred Meyer to show their marketing dept how to read and use the internet.

  • Daniel Gonzalez

Are we going to continue to bring this up? I think most of the community gets it. Selected stores are confusing consumers. I won’t deny that part. However, I doubt that all retail stores are doing this, so the consumer confusion I don’t believe is the real reason Wii U sales are suffering.

Yeah, it’s beyond dumb that these advertisers can’t get their facts straight, and I can’t imagine how they continue to do it. I think this is a problem that Nintendo themeselves are going to have to address and set these retailers straight. Otherwise, it’ll just continue to happen.

    • springer85

You seriously think Nintendo will do that will retailers when the Wii U has already been out for a year?
Nintendo failed with everything to do with the Wii U, from the name, mediocre launch games, delay after delay, ridiculous price tag and after 12 months on the market they still chose not to change the name to Wii 2?

    • DJKeens

You’re right on the slow sales. But it might be why that casual market isn’t catching on. Most of them depend on those adverts to know when something new is out. Still you’re right that it’s only a few and Nintendo is gonna have to set em straight.

  • springer85

Patcher was right all along about the Wii U.
You all bashed him last November when he said that the name would confuse to many people and that it would get outsold by 6 and 7 year old consoles in the PS3 and XBOX 360!!
    LOL

    • AAAkabob

The PS3 and Xbox 360 will outsell all next gen consoles after this holiday. Welcome to your first console launch kiddo

      • springer85

        LMFAO!!
W ii U year sales to date 3.7 Million
Xbox 360 year sales to date 9.2 Million
PS3 year sales to date 10 Million!!
Welcome to the real world that the Wii U still got DESTROYED by weaker consoles that are so old!!!

        • DJKeens

The difference? Except for the Wii U, those consoles have all been out for over 5 years. They’ve had plenty of time to generate those numbers. If you look at it objectively, the Wii U isn’t far from the halfway point for those numbers, and it hasn’t even hit a year on the market.

          • springer85

LMFAO Wii U was released last NOVEMBER……we are now mid OCTOBER which is nearly a year so why do you think that the Wii U has not been on the market for a year when in 3 weeks time it will have!!
In 3 weeks time the Wii U will still have sold shit for a full year on the market!!!

          • DJKeens

So a console that has sold almost half of what current consoles have in a fraction of their lifespan has sold shit? May I have some of those drugs you’re coked up on? I want to ignore reality too.

          • springer85

            YES!!
Wii U sold 3.7 Million first year
Wii sold 11.5 Million in its first year!!!
Wii U is a massive failure!!!

          • C4

First year isn’t over yet ;)

          • DJKeens

Um Wii destroyed everything. Including 360 and PS3 sales. Still holds that title in fact. Halfway to the competition’s numbers in less than a year is not a failure by any stretch of logic. And it did so on “mediocre games” and lack of advertising. Nintendo will correct and we’ll have SSB, MK8, X, Zelda, and SM3DW on top of whatever else they’re not telling us. SSB and MK8 have always had ridiculous sales so I’m not terribly worried.

          • CCM

The Wii was a “lightning in a bottle” type phenomenon when it launched. It would be tough for Nintendo or any other console manufacturer for that matter to repeat that level of hype and success again as far as first year sales go.

A more fair comparison would be taking the 360 and PS3’s first year of sales and comparing them to the Wii U.

          • NkoSekirei

            ur an idiot

        • Marcos Crill Colon

That allways happens ps1 outsold the ps2 for a while same as the ps2 out selling the ps3 ..ds to the 3ds you must be very young with comments like that..also watch it happen to Xbox 1 and ps4 what you think people ain’t going to want them no more you maybe be upgrading from them but there’s still people out there who’s never had neither yet its hard to believe but true

        • AAAkabob

You’re a newb, this is how it always is and always will be. New consoles sell less than old consoles throughout the first year. It’s ok I wouldn’t expect anything more from a tiny teeny kid.

  • Eric

    YAY! Another failed ad….. sad

  • companyoflosers

    because retailers are idiots

    • springer85

Nintendo calling it Wii U are the tools not the retailers!!!

      • companyoflosers

they’re BOTH idiots! its a retailer’s job to make sure hey can move what stock they order. it is Nintendo’s job to make a distinguishable and entertaining platform for games. at least Nintendo made it entertaining but not so much distinguishable so they at least accomplished one of their jobs. retailers outright fail completely though to interest consumers in the product they claim to support which is complete idiocy because it benefits them to do so and now they complain like its Nintendo’s faut yet Nintendo is the only one trying to do anything about it.

      • NkoSekirei

ur a tool called the plunger to unplug the toilets

  • springer85

LOL at the Guzllers STILL trying to make excuses for Nintendo the Wii U has nearly been on the market for a full year and they have done ZERO marketing nothing!!
It is all their fault and no one elses, if they cannot be bothered to do ZERO for a year and then blame retailers is a disgrace!!
The Wii was marketed perfect……..the Wii U the worst in console history!!

    • Jon

What do you call the virtual Boy then…. or the CDI?

    • NkoSekirei

stfu dude u sound more like a broken record dumb@$$

    • dinos24

Do you happen to OWN a Wii U?

  • Joey Perez

I am a graphic designer and marketing prof … Being that the advertisement shows the merchandise the store has no reason to sell you something not visually shown in the ad … Quit taking advantage and crying when u can’t u scum

  • C4

That’s why Nintendo introduced the Wii Mini in EU and some other countries. Once normal Wii isn’t sold anymore that problem won’t exist, at least when it comes to retailers. Marketing is another topic.

  • Johny

    conspiracy i tell ya !

  • WolfgangAmadeusMozart

$99,99 Xbox One Halo bundle for sale, wired controller and Halo Combat Evolved included !

  • Lophs

Wii U is the greatest name ever……..

  • Rick Valenta

Derp. I really don’t get this… Did people have trouble knowing what a Super Nintendo was compared to an NES because they put the name “Super” in front of it? I rather like the name Wii U.. They could have changed the console shape a bit to differentiate I suppose. It does look like a Wii from ten feet back..

  • tom

Really? This console has been out ALMOST a year and they still can not get it right?

    • springer85

EXACTLY yet all the Ninty Guzzlers are still in plain DENIAL and do not want to blame Nintendo when EVERYTHING that has gone wrong with the Wii U has been ALL Nintendo’s fault!!
Been out a year yet 80 percent of consumers still think it is an add on for the Wii and that is due to Nintendo’s zero marketing thinking word of mouth would sell the console!!
Nintendo stupidly thought it was the games and put all their focus on that forgetting that nearly 3 quarters of the gaming world and public still do not know that it was a BRAND NEW CONSOLE!!

  • springer85

LOL at Ninty guzzlers bragging just wait till PS4 and Xbox one arrive….yeah they both ALREADY have over 1.5 Million pre orders each and BOTH have way more first year exclusives than the crap pathetic drivel that the Wii U has got first year!!
The games that the Wii U had had in the first year is the worst of any console ever!!
The PS4 is ONLY $60 more expensive that the Wii U.
Gonna be hilarious when rehash Mario lands on the same day as Xbone One launch and fails so badly!!
    LOL

    • LopsidedPasta

I laughed so hard at the sentence” The PS4 is ONLY $60 more expensive that the Wii U.” It’s honestly hard to believe people like you haven’t been killed off via survival of the fittest. If there’s any proof Darwin was wrong, it’s you.

      • CEObrainz

Don’t reply to the troll, no educated person would believe a statement like that.

        • Dylan Clark

lol he is right Wii U kinda sucks i mean ive only got one game to play which is Pikmin 3 i wish they had more on launch day like xboxone and ps4 because i played NSMBU to death already. im glad its backwards compatible though i never had a Wii so i get to enjoy some of those great titles like SMG2 and SSBB.. i mean at least SSB4 is gonna be great and SM3DW will be okay i guess just seems kinda slow

          • CEObrainz

Your statements contradict what you are saying. You seem to have more that one Wii U game, the XBone and PS4 haven’t launched yet, therefore they can’t have a bigger launch day yet. Have you played Monster Hunter, Wind Waker HD, Assassins Creed, Need for Speed, CoD, Donkey Kong or any other of the Wii U games that are already out.

Plus you said you never had a Wii, that gives you a huge library of games to choose from, granted half is most likely shovel ware, but there is more than enough to keep you occupied.

          • Dylan Clark

nah i already played WW when it came out and i bought assasins creed, cod and nfs for my xbox when it came out a year before. donkey kong isint out yet. yeah ive been enjoying some Wii games (might as well have bought a wii instead and saved some money) and i dont contradict myself mr smart guy because XB1 and PS4’s launch lineup is 10x stronger than wii u its a fact.

          • CEObrainz

            http://www.computerandvideogames.com/425690/ps4-launch-games-lineup-confirmed-33-titles-out-in-2013/

            then

            http://techcrunch.com/2012/09/26/here-are-the-23-nintendo-wii-u-launch-titles/

Your argument is that Sony knows there are over 100 titles in development for it, but that doesn’t mean anything when you compare what’s actually being released as the console comes out.

          • Dylan Clark

33 original titles available at launch for PS4, still more than Wii U
argument invalid sir try again. and wii u only has at this point like 10 games for this year and next. so you just proved that Wii U is shit with your articles

      • springer85

Wii U Deluxe is $340 ps4 is ONLY $399 you MORON……please do the math Nintendo cry baby go play with your dead on arrival console!!!
        BWAAHAHAHAHAHA

        • LopsidedPasta

          lol

          • CEObrainz

But seriously, trolls should be banned…..like asap.

          • springer85

But like seriously the Wii U is already dead and will never recover!!
Proves that the Wii WAS A total fluke!!!

          • CEObrainz

You haven’t provided any evidence to back that statement, plus what exactly made the Wii a fluke? Cos I’m sure that isn’t the first time Nintendo has made a profit from a console.

          • springer85

Wii U has sold a PATHETIC 3.6 Million in a year
Wii sold 11.6 Million first year!!
No body gives a shit about the Wii U as if they did it would have sold like the Wii did!!
Wake up the gaming world is now focused on the next gen and come Xmas the Wii U will be wiped off the planet!!

          • CEObrainz

A console with no games and little sales is just that, a unpopular console.

A console with great games and little sales is a failure, the Wii U isn’t at the stage where it’s library is as good or better than that of the Wii. So we can’t judge whether people don’t care about the Wii U. Also there are people who are simply waiting for a title like Smash before getting their Wii U.

Also, I don’t think you know what next-gen really means.

          • Jon

he hasn’t, the console has been increasing in sales. Also, if I remember correctly from statements from Nintendo and others sources, the sales have increased over 200% since the price cut and are still rising

          • NkoSekirei

it just shows how retarded u really are

          • http://www.youtube.com/hedeno1InEnglish Hugo Delgado

            You, sir, deserve my friendship.

          • CEObrainz

            Nice meeting ya.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

I do agree, but do you think that’ll stop them though? A lot of them are smart enough to get back on here through different means and the fact that there will be more trolls that will just join on in. Of course I expect the admins to try to keep up, but in the end it’s pointless. Only true way to get rid of the troll is to stop feeding them hate. The more people do that, the less of an influence they’ll have on any given website. Personally speaking, I don’t pay attention to them and let them run their mouths. Eventually they get bored and move along.

          • CEObrainz

I get what you are saying, but when they start filling up the comments section with trash, then it becomes very annoying. It used to happen on this one site I frequented and now it’s just a playground for trolls to lurk around. That being said, it would be time consuming to moderate these pages, unless there was a team of passive-aggressive fans who were happy with dedicating a bit of time for the job, the only problem is would you trust them with Mod privileges?

        • Jon

WiiU deluxe $299 with game and free online. PS4 is $399 with no game and need $50/year for online. So really, if you want at least the system and a game, you are looking at $459, and with online, you are looking at $509 in your first year and then to keep the internet, $50 every year making the console more expensive each year. So in the long run of an average 6 year life span, you are looking at a $759 console while the Wii U will remain at $299(or $349 for those that bought at launch) or go down over that average time. Please do the math troll.

    Wii U…..dead on arrival
    Nintendo 2DS…dead on arrival.
Good job Nintendo has the 3DS or they would be the next SEGA!!
    LOL

    • dinos24

The 2DS is designed for children whose eyes are not fully developed yet and can’t handle the 3D effect well, not to mention they also tend to break hinges. I think the 3D has been a drawback for parents who want to buy the system, but are worried about their kids’ eyes, so I predict the 2DS will sell well this holiday season.

  • springer85

The Wii U arrived 3 years to late, it would have worked back in 2010 when Wii sales were lagging to go head to head with the PS3 and 360 then in 2015 as EVERY Nintendo home console has had a 5 year life cycle release a kick ass all new powerful console to take on the next gen!!

  • springer85

Sony PS1.PS2,PS3 and PS4 to keep it simple and let its customers know what the next new console was.
All Nintendo had to do was call it Wii 2 and they would never be in this hilarious position!!

I thought you and your crap finally left us alone. I guess I was wrong…

Also, I really can’t believe how much attention you like to get. I mean, ten comments in one post and many other replies? We already know you don’t like the Wii U, so just shut up.

      • Landesca

Don’t feed the troll….he has nothing better to do with his day. He’s probably unemployed and living in mommy and daddy’s basement and his only contact with people other than his parents is to post on this board.

  • springer85

Patcher was right all along about the Wii U…..PRICELESS!!!

  • Mario

Can a someone be honest with me? Are people getting dumber day by day?

  • ACE

Nintendo is so stupid with te name Wii U

  • Mitch Hall

This is why it was stupid of Nintendo to name the console the WII U.

    • DragonSilths

Xbox One…nuff said. They could have called the Wii U, the Nintendo Fluffy Bunny and it wouldn’t matter. The word of mouth has failed unlike the Wii cause casuals talked about it. Casuals have no interest in home consoles anymore. A different name would have had an effect but would it be the saving grace to the Wii U? Not guaranteed.

      • Mitch Hall

The naming issue is an extension of their bad marketing. The Wii U would be selling much better if people knew that it was actually a new console…

        • DragonSilths

It would be selling better but it wouldn’t be like the 3DS. Even the people who want a Wii U a lot just don’t have the money for a new home console the economy is not what it was in 2006 when the 7th gen started. Causals have no interest in Home Consoles currently, Xbox and Sony fans dislike Wii U and Nintendo cause they think its a weak last gen system so they wont buy it, the people who already have Wii U’s are the Nintendo Loyalists. That really doesn’t leave many people left to target. Nintendo could advertise the fuck out of the Wii U but the fact is, the gaming industry isn’t what it was 7 years ago. The amount of people wanting a home console compared to a handheld is much smaller then it ever has been. Hence why the 3DS is the most dominate system in gaming lol.

        • Jon

What I don’t understand is how the naming of it is an issue now. earlier, yes, but now after they have done plenty of kiosks both in the streets and in stores. There has been lots of in store promotions. They have been at all the major gaming expos and some not so much gaming oriented. There has been plenty news, plenty announcements even on the Wii system explaining it and there have been advertisements. People not knowing what it is, is just retarded and I have a hard time believe that. It is either that or this world is going to hell and the next generation will be a generation of morons.

          • Ice Climbers

Now I understand Lysandre’s goal. I somewhat agree with it.

    • martinrock

      Absolutely

  • DragonSilths

Maybe I should tell a friend of mine on Xbox Live to go to that store, he got something there before…I forget what but he is a Nintendo fan.

  • Arthur Jarret

Basically, it’s Nintendo’s fault too. I know of several brand owners that require ALL publication material to be passed to them for approval on correct use of their brand, logos, colors and typography – they usually have a clause for resellers which means theybcan actually fine them if this is not followed. (Usually such fines are waived the first few times… they are selling the products, after all).

Nintendo has always handled everything… differently. From their system-to-system progression, to the account systems, to online interaction… it’s quite plausible this extends to retailer relationships, so the usual standard business practices don’t apply here.

  • Jared Garcia

I can say real easily that putting Nintendo in the corner of a store doesn’t do it favors. Went to Gamestop and they literally put it in th smallest corner section in the store. If you want to sell it, look at the damn thing and see what it does. I’ve seen indie stores open a box and display it with varying games so people know what it is. Retailers need to make an effort to know what they’re selling.

  • ufg

    DERP DERP HERP DERP HERP

  • D-Man

The only thing stupid about the Wii U is the name. Should have been called the Nintendo Revolution

  • Hulkamania

Sorry brothers… I have to say this… “FUCKING RETARDS”.

  • HypocritesRROD

People wouldn’t know the difference between Xbox One and Xbox 360. People would think that the Xbox One is the original console and Xbox 360 is the new console.

    • Leo

I don’t think so. The western media is promoting Xbox One like crazy and M$ wouldn’t need to do much, they will likely let the media outlets do the dirty job. Nintendo on the other hand doesn’t have this support and is overly dependent on their own initiative which has been poorly up until now, not to mention the rumored boycott plan by the competitors, but in this regard no one can be sure.

Nintendo needs to ditch their japanese submissive tradition and engage in a serious aggressive market campaign aimed for the western industry. Word of mouth won’t do any good for them.

      • HypocritesRROD

I completely agree. That is exactly what XBOTS would say to damage control. Microsoft has many slaves like IGN, kotaku and gametrailers to control the minds of gullible people.

  • http://www.mpt-online.eu/ Sylux

In the Netherlands it seems like Wii and WiiU are separeted properly as of late but most stores have incredible low stocks concerning WiiU showing stores and consumers in the Netherlands at least have little faith in WiiU, N is working hard to fix it, but it’ll be a harsh battle to get the WiiU in a more positive light.

  • Tekina Sibawo

Why doesn’t nintendo just rebrand the wiiU as the Super Wii? Done

  • bizzy gie

    *ssssssssssssssiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh*

  • Treehuggerperson

How could people not know the difference? Its stupid. But the one thing Nintendo needs to do is have a comercial addressing the issue.

  • Dáibhí wotshissurname

This is not only shameful, but embarrassing and stupid

  • PatcherStation

I’m sat here laughing. Wii and Wii U. PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3. 3DS and 3DS XL. Those consoles didn’t have a name problem. Most people who play games know that Nintendo have released a new console and it’s called the Wii U. With every console, most people will ask things like, does the Wii U play Wii games, will the Wii U play GameCube games and does with the Wii U come with a hard drive (the list goes on). That’s not confusion, it’s curiosity. The Wii U isn’t selling because it’s too expensive for what you get. Most people are into the Xbox 360 and PS3 which will keep going for another 3 or 4 years. Nintendo’s biggest headache will be the Xbox One and PS4 in November. Too high a price to pay, no hard drive, lack of games from Nintendo, same old games from Nintendo, poor third party support and the fact that most people realised that the Wii wasn’t really as good as what it was made out to be are the main reasons why the Wii U has failed worldwide. It’s heading for GameCube to Nintendo 64 numbers. But there’s a small chance that Nintendo could turn it around. £400+ for an Xbox One or PS4 with games, most people will pay it.

  • yienwae

Amusing. I’m now actually going to go to my local Walmart or Target and ask a sales person if they know the difference between a Wii and a Wii U. I’m almost shuttering to hear what they might say. But then again, maybe what I hear may not be surprising. :D

  • Tim Ziervogel

Working in retail myself, this is 100percent true. 80percent of parents coming in have no idea what it is and it takes a while to explain. a lot of my coworkers cant even understand it…

  • Alan Schurle

This is not the only time that this has happened…and yet we see Luigi on the CTA trains in Chicago. How disjointed

  • farrellbr

this is why wiiu is not selling
