  • Rugmouse

    Game of the Year…again

    • Ducked

I think your getting carried away

      • Rugmouse

That’s what I get for trying to be sarcastic on a message board…haha

We all know that Hello Kitty Kart Racer will be Game of the Year.

        • Ducked

Hard to tell sarcasm on the internet.

And we all know Barbie Dreamhouse will win that award!

          • Magnus Eriksson

That will make ScrewDriver the happiest girl on this site. :)

  • palomino blue

    They’ve got my money.

  • Ace

This has been up on their site with a release date of TBD for a while now. I thought that they would have released a date by now.

  • The True Gamer

i just want gba games on 3ds.

    • Jack5221

It’ll happen eventually, as well as N64, and gamecube titles coming to the virtual console.

      • The True Gamer

do ya think n64 or gamecube games could come to 3ds?

        • jjbredesen

Perhaps N64, but i dont think the 3DS would get Gamecube games, it could run them, but i dont think 3DS has the storage capasity. GC games are around 1GB and the 3DS’s max storage capacity is 16GB? i think

          • The True Gamer

n64 games would be pretty great on 3ds. its too bad gamecube games probably wont arrive

          • jjbredesen

yeah it would be awesome, but there could come a homebrew for GC games in the future.

(if you want to take the risk) Perhaps nintendo will make a VC direct? or show it to us when Miiverse hits the 3DS?

          • The True Gamer

i could see nintendo making some big announcements before black friday to earn more sales, and take some attention from sony and microsoft away

          • jjbredesen

They should announce “Metroid U” and Star Fox “U” before black friday, and lets not forget about ;Miyamoto’s new IP.

          • The True Gamer

i could see nintendo announcing many projects this month. i think a wii u redesign could happen if sales dont reach a high enough point, and potentially a renaming of the system. i doubt sales will be very low after mario kart 8 and super mario 3d world, especially now after the wii u is bundled with new super mario bros. u

          • jjbredesen

I agree and if the sales are not high enough after MK8 and M3DW then they have Smash Bros, witch doesent need a explanation.

    • jjbredesen

I have 10 GBA games on my 3DS that i got through the Ambassador Program :P

      • The True Gamer

yeah, i got those to. i just wish some gba pokemon games arrived on the 3ds eShop

  • Jack5221

I never finished Super Mario Bros 3, so I will be getting this when its available – Hopefully this Thursday.

    • Magnus Eriksson

Its a great game. Did you try the remakes?

      • Jack5221

Haven’t touched a single remake. Cant wait for this!

    • Lusunup

you and me both. I missed the old mario games where we weren’t able to make it pass the 3rd world without using a flute :(

    • Hulkamania

I’ve been playing SM3 for 20 yrs… never finished it. I always got stuck in the invisible world. The only time I saw it completely beat was my dad… When I was younger, my dad managed to beat Super Mario 3 and I cheered him on! It was a magical video game moment.

      • Sdudyoy

I’ve been playing it for 10 years and I still haven’t beaten it yet (granted the cartridge was missing for about 6 years of that) But man do I wish games where as hard as that still, any game that you can have fun with for 10 years and haven’t beaten yet is a good game.

      • bizzy gie

My mom beat SMB 1 over and over again on the SNES, something I could never do at that age.

Even now, I have the game for 3DS (Ambassador program rocks!) where I FINALLY beat it for the first time ever.

        • Andy

Congratulations man! I still haven’t, lol.

      • Michael Ocampo

invisible world? I’ve played through the whole thing and i don’t know what you’re talking about.

        • val berger

Maybe his dad was always turning the system off when he had to go to bed, calling it ‘THE INVISIBLE WORLD’ ;D

    • The_Last_Metroid

For those who find it difficult can use the restore points too!

    • Mipaol80

Have fun with world 8, hard as hell. :P

  • CaesarGood

If they do not upgrade and update the graphics, this game will never be appealing to play to me anymore…

    • Wolfgem

      Dude it’s a old game….

      • CaesarGood

Guy, that is why I won’t be interested in playing it if they don’t ever update the graphics, simple as that. I know its an old game, u think I didn’t know that? Did they not update that DuckTales game? Then they could do it for SMB3. If they don’t, oh well. I’m just saying the game looks very washed out by now.

        • 7Down

          *BITCH SLAPS*

        • Jon

Actually, Nintendo didn’t update ducktales, Way Forward did. The point of the VC is to play the classic games as the classic games that we all grew up to love. Not some remake that is less of a challenge.

          • CaesarGood

WTF are u talking about?? I didn’t say Nintendo remastered DuckTales, but they could do it to SMB3. How is a remastered game less of a challenge when its the same game with updated, high definition graphics?? What are u talking about???

          • Jon

” Did they not update that DuckTales game?” Considering how we are talking about a Nintendo game not having it’s graphics updated and then asking this makes it sound as “they” is Nintendo. As for remakes being easier. The ducktales remake is a perfect example, a map, a tutorial level and a easier time with a pogo. Also, when you die, you don’t start off at the beginning of a level or at the check point.

          • CaesarGood

I said “They” in general as, whoever creates the game..Other than that I don’t even care no more, STFW that is So The Fuck What…

    • Ducked

Isn’t that what NSMBU is for…

      • CaesarGood

No it isn’t. Is that the same game?

        • jjbredesen

No its not, but it’s a good mario game. I have not played it myself but my friend says it is as good as MB3. But that is just his opinion.

          • Ducked

            (What this guy said)

    • Razo_E

Get Super Mario All Stars then.

      • CaesarGood

does it look any better in SMAS?

        • Razo_E

It does, but it’s literally a port of an SNES game. I remember getting it on SNES for Christmas YEARS ago.

  • Magnus Eriksson

They announced it in a Nintendo Direct months ago.

  • GameBoy1979

ONE step closer to letting go of my original system…keep ‘em comin’ BIG N!

    • jjbredesen

Dont let go of your NES, it could be worth a lot if you keep it for 20-30+ years more.

      • https://twitter.com/Onyzora Ony

In 20/30 years, I’ll never sell my SNES, N64 or GameCube, even for 5k each.

        Too much memories in them.

        • jjbredesen

          agreed

        • GameBoy1979

You both make good points…I will probably keep it just like I already have for close to 20 years. I’ve even had it refurbished so that I could play it more.

    • Ducked

I wouldn’t let go of your NES, those things are worth money now in days

      • GameBoy1979

Yeah, I guess I should probably hang on to it; if not for the potential future value, then the nostalgia that it still invokes (like Ony said).

  • Richard Branches

I won’t because I already bought super mario all stars 25th anniversary… I wish they release that game in HD!! in the future… maybe for its 30th anniversary!!!

    • 7Down

I was going to buy it, is it like the Allstars for SNES?

      • crocodileman94

        It IS Allstars for SNES.

        • 7Down

So, I can play it on my SNES, but also with my Wii and Wii U… PERFECT!

      • A SNES Day Off

‘All Stars’ featured 16-bit remakes of the NES original games. Sadly, I can’t imagine Nintendo will release this package on the eShop as it would hamper the sales of their original NES counterparts.

      • Richard Branches

Yes, it is exactly the same, only enhanced to work with the wii remote and wii pro controller, also the screen is not streched so you’ll see the game in its original 4:3 aspect ratio.

    • Magnus Eriksson

      Ouch!

  • LevenThumps

I’m glad to see it come to the e-shop. Super Mario Bros. 3 was one of my favorite Mario games; I really loved the variety of new power-ups they offered, which are making a comeback as well in Super Mario 3D Land and World.

    • GameBoy1979

The music in SMB 3 was always a great point of contingency for me for some reason. Of course, all the games of old had great music, even as limited as it was to the technology of the time.

      • erich80

Maybe due to technical limitations the developers used to push harder and make higher efforts to deliver brilliant, unforgettable melodies.

SMB3 has indeed great, great music. As impressive as SMW music, I’d say.

        • GameBoy1979

Agree 100% my friend. I do believe you are spot on about pushing harder because of those limitations. Sometimes I think that may be the whole reason Nintendo has developed such high quality first party games over the years, overall…just because they somewhat limit themselves in the hardware department, seemingly forcing themselves to strive for excellence on the software/gaming side of things (not that the hardware is terrible, but you know what I mean).

          • erich80

            Right, I got your point.

N64 and Cube had better specs than their competitors, but they were outsold by PS1 and PS2, and 3rd party support was very scarce. Interestingly, on the other hand, the Wii was not on par of PS3 and X360, but largely won the 7th generation in sales and innovation wise, delivering an amazing gaming library – and, yes, with a decent 3rd party support, in my opinion.

That’s why I have high hopes in seeing Wii U doing well starting from the upcoming holidays – MK8 and SSB are gladly on the horizon.

          • GameBoy1979

Totally didn’t think about it from the N64/Cube perspective, but you are too right about that. I, too, cannot wait for MK8 & SSB! They look to be AWESOME!! Just the look & feel of MK8 gives me a feeling that I think I only truly ever got from the N64 version. I hope I’m right!

  • Einar

When will N64 games come to Virtual Console for WiiU? It can’t be that hard to tweak the code into making the game work.. Or maybe there are more HD titles to come?

    • Fred

i’m hoping for HD N64 titles

  • 7Down

SMB3 is one awesome game, great childhood memories.

  • Nintendoplaystation

We still need more for the vc allot more, mario 3 is one of he best though.

  • TheKingJoseph

    system sellers? lmao

  • Gibosdog

The sad part about this is that they are going to charge like $5-$7 for this game. Don’t get me wrong, it’s an awesome game but we should only pay like 30 cents for it or even free.

    • GameBoy1979

Maybe there should be an incentive type deal for previous owners of the game, however that may be worked out. But, even paying in the $5-7 dollar range, it’s still well worth the cost. It’s not like they pop an old SMB 3 disk in the Wii U & it just works. They still have to pay someone to port it so that it works on the new system. Plus, you have to think of all the younger generation who have never played this game. They didn’t pay once before like some of us, so they should pay a little something & for the quality of game that SMB 3 presents, $5-7 isn’t that bad…..and this coming from someone who usually stays broke, lol.

      • Majora’s Mask

Facepalm …… the price is outrageous i can buy a snes and smb3 with 15 dollars but NOOOOO i must give 7 dollars for a bad EMULATED NOT PORTED GAME WITH FRAMERATE ISSUES suck my cock nintendo but this is STEALING 1 DOLLAR A BUNDLE OF 5 GAMES IS REASONABLE

        • GameBoy1979

It does seem a bit pricey at first glance, but money has to be spent to pay the team of people they need to move it to the U. And I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t want to spend hours in front of the computer typing code for free. As simple as it may seem, ports are not always that easy, especially when “retrofitting” the software for such a “simply” coded game. I personally don’t feel that even $7 is too high, and as I stated before….I’m usually pretty broke. Maybe somewhere around the $3-4 price range would be more suitable. The 30 cents promos are great, but if you were selling a product & trying to make a living, what would you do?

This is not a sarcastic question, but an honest inquiry….do the VC games all lag that bad, or have you had bad experiences with any in particular?

          • Majora’s Mask

mario world runs poorly i never remember it lagging and skipping frames back then

    • Fred

If you own it on the wii it’ll be $1 if not it’ll be $5

    • greengecko007

They definitely need to come up with better prices for Virtual Console games. 30 cents sounds too low for anything but a short term sale, but at the same time, $5-7 is far too much for an NES game that hasn’t been updated to fit widescreen, and more importantly, LAGS.

  • erich80

I won’t grab it since I have it in Wii Super Mario All Stars limited edition and on WiiWare as well, but it’s a good chance for those who never played it.

But I wonder why Nintendo is taking so long to establish a unified account… It would be nice if I could simply download it on my 3DS, since I’ve already paid twice for this game.

  • Hulkamania

Nintendo should release these games in HD, using the New Super Mario Bros engine.

    • Ivan Santiago Cortes

Yes! Just like how they did it with Super Mario All Stars for the SNES, they should do to those games with current New Super Mario Bros engine. Every level the same just upgraded.

  • Makakilo_Man

Why do they slowly trickle out these games instead of release a bunch of them at once? Can someone answer that for me?

    • A SNES Day Off

Because spreading out (anticipated) releases helps to create demand in the long term, and can create a buzz when and if Nintendo choose. For example, there have been promotions for the purchase of one VC title if you already own its prequel, or a discount for a relating game.

SMB-3 has had a TBD release date for a very long time now, and I imagine that it will be released alongside Super Mario 3D World.

      • Makakilo_Man

But that just adds to my confusion. If Nintendo has this reserve of old VC games that can be used to create demand for (1) hyping up a new game, or (2) filling the void between big releases. Why don’t they announce them and release more?

To me, it makes no sense to release a old game like SMB-3 along with it’s 2013 counterpart, SM3DW, because it would cannibalize sales of the older game. I do agree with releasing the older game a little before so as to promote the sale of the newer game.

With the early part of 2013 being short of a healthy supply of good Wii U games it seems like that would be a PERFECT opportunity to release old VC classics to hold us over.

      • Nope.avi

It doesn’t create demand, it just annoys people and makes forget the shop exists.

      • Majora’s Mask

OMG facepalm ……. they dont do that they dont care about us only make money and releasing a ton would only make us buy them and not NEW titles thats nintendo logic

        • Makakilo_Man

Right. And that makes sense if they had a ton of new releases, but they don’t. So why leave us with nothing?

          • Majora’s Mask

well in nintendo standards they have many games coming only they dont realize that we re not going to buy them all i have only bought ww hd so far and ac4 is on my list when it launches in EU 22 november not even mario is on my list thats how pathetic marios become

    • Magnus Eriksson

      Greed. Thats the answer.

      • Makakilo_Man

Nope. Greed would have just the opposite effect. They would sell them all at profit maximizing price if they were motivated solely on greed.

Now if you’re implying that they just want to see people suffer, that’s another thing entirely.

    • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

I think it is partially because VC titles are a lower priority for Nintendo with all the sales and marketing issues they need to work out along with getting new titles developed and released.

While I think the prices on some of the VC titles are a tad high I also understand that time goes into making these work and adding stuff like MiiVerse support. Also not to mention the overhead to store and distribute the game online in the eShop. They need to pay for that Nintendo Network and the eShop somehow and I am sure the VC titles sales help fund that.

    • Majora’s Mask

Facepalm… there already availavle at the wii shop WHICH THE WII U HAS SO THE GAME IS ALREADY AVAILABLE ON WII U

  • CEObrainz

Had this on Wii, completed it, moved on. Whilst certainly fun, I’ve never been too into the 2D games.

  • Fred

this has been on their official website with TBD on the release date for months. Ever since it was mentioned in that Nintendo Direct that it would be coming. When i saw the head line I was hoping we finally had a rease date.
I have this on the wii, but I’d love to pay a dollar and swap it to the Wii U mode

  • SomeFluffer64

This week is gonna be good on the Wii U eShop for me. Gonna get Toki Tori 1 and maybe even the new Pikmin 3 DLC… Less than 5 bucks together, so its hard to go wrong.

  • Squid

I personally think Mario 2/USA is one of my favorite Mario games.

  • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

I’ll pay the $1.00 to upgrade this to the Wii U menu only because it is a $1.00 and my wife plays this game all the time still to this day.

  • THEMIGHTYDOOVDE

Finished this game about a 100 times.

    Looking forward to 101 :-)

  • Deadpool U

Wasn’t this announced in a Nintendo direct a while ago?

  • Nope.avi

The eshop ‘trickle out’ only works against Nintendo. I bought quite a few games early on with the 3ds eshop. Every thursday they do a release, and for a little while it seemed okay. But when all they did was release 1-2 games that were either bad or I didn’t care about, I began to stop caring about the eshop. After awhile I stopped checking. It was simply a big waste of time.

I got the 3ds at launch, and it wasn’t like I wasn’t buying eshop games. I bought Super Mario Land, Kirby’s dreamland, donkey kong (game boy), and Zelda DX. These games were released early in the life of the eshop, and I enjoyed them. But after awhile I simply lost interest in it.

Slowly releasing bad games or games that people don’t care about only shows people that the eshop is pointless. You’d be better of checking it in a year or two.

  • Arthur Jarret

Got both the graphically improved all-stars version on wii and the bloated-for-content gba version. No need to double dip. Nintendo made it seem like the vc would be released with all NES and SNES games available. I hoped we were done with the agonizing drip-feed of the original wii and could finally get to the lesser known gems of the featured systems.

To make matters worse, some gems are now unavailable – as nintendo has quietly and without press release removed most of the wii’s VC.

Do you guys care about VC? Protesting/mass posting on miiverse helped to get earthbound in the us (and europe for the first time) – it could stop the slow distribution of VC as well (as well as the per-platform overpricing – as it makes no sense to price urban champions the same as Metroid, Zelda or Mario 3).

Not even to mention the fact that full stereoscopic remakes of 16 bit genesis games will be the same price as NES VC games…
I’m working on some pictures in photoshop to copy pixel-by-pixel in miiverse later… my drawings have been featured in ninty’s vids before, so I hope to get their attention.

  • Funkee Dynamite

Such a great game, i remember by neighbor got it first and i was so jelous. He invited me over to see it and i didn’t want to go but deep down i did want to go. Saw it and bugged my mom till she brought it home and gave it as a gift for me my bro and my sister.

  • readypembroke

Actually a listing for SMB 3 has been on Nintendo’s website for quite awhile.

  • James Marks

I wanted this game so bad after watching ‘The Wizard’ (with Fred Savage) and I remember feeling like it didn’t disappoint. There are many games that have surpassed it in game-play and graphics since, but none that can hold a candle to its nostalgic value… Yes, I will definitely be getting SMB3!

  • Jon

It’s an incredible game but….. I don’t know if I can buy again…. if I do, it will be because it is only a dollar. I have it on NES, 3DS (actually on both my 3DS’s), Wii… i used to play it a lot on. I may end up getting it because then i can play on the gamepad but I’ll see. Gotta…save….money…… Wii u games coming and there are still games that i have not managed to pick up yet that I want… Damn you debt payments!

  • Andrew W Garttmeyer

One more Super Mario Bros title does not make the VC ‘filled out more and more robust’. c’moon.

  • Ryan Black

Before I get to commenting on something else, why is the link to this article called “Nintendo is running out of ideas” it’s like a 60 year old talking about global warming and then the newscaster saying “OLD PEOPLE DON’T KNOW WHERE THEY ARE HALF THE TIME”
