Nintendo introduces the Wii Fit Meter in a new trailer

Nintendo has released a new trailer showing off how the Fit Meter interacts with the new Wii Fit U.

Today marks the first day that Wii Fit U is available for a free trial for Wii U owners. If you’re interested in trying it out, you can head to the eShop and download it now. Nintendo is also offering an interesting promotion where you can purchase a Wii Fit Meter and register it with the console and keep the game for free. The price of the Fit Meter is set at $19.99. You’ll also need a balance board as well, so if you have one of those from your Wii you’re fine.

If not, you’ll be able to find balance board and Fit Meter bundles in retail stores soon. Overall the trailer gives us a good look at what to expect from the new Wii Fit U accessory and I have to say the incentives that Nintendo has attached to wearing it to track your exercise and fitness seem really fun.

What do you think?

“I have to say the incentives that Nintendo has attached to wearing it to track your exercise and fitness seem really fun.”

There are incentives? Hey Ashley, what incentives are being offered? I had not heard of this before.

    • Joshua Brodie

Or is it just in game incentives?

      • Jacob D. Taylor

Yes in game incentives, but I personally find those fun as well so I’m all about getting rewarded, if only virtually, for exercising! Like street pass! Hellz yeah!

    • http://about.me/overlordror Ashley King

Just the in-game incentives that you see in the trailer. What I mean by that is exercise is boring if you’re just riding an elliptical or lifting weights or something. But the fit meter actually turns it into more of a game when you sync up with the game.

  • Ace

Does anyone know how much space the game takes up?

    • Michael DeVore

Supposed to be 3 gigs, but I’m not sure yet since the download wasn’t available this morning.

    • wiiucompl

      Wii Fit U (promo) – 4649 MB

      • Ace

        Cool thanks. That’s not bad.

  • djvalbnc

Do I need a balance board or can I buy just the FItmeter for my mom + the Software? :)

    • Michael DeVore

Without the balance board most of the software wont work. You could get the trial just to see, but even the meter isn’t good without the board. It can’t get your weight, and do an accurate calorie calculation without the board. They are cheap used, and their are a few 3rd party boards, but who knows how well they will work.

    • Jon

You can get the software for a 1 month trail and if you connect a meter to it, you get to keep the software for free. Sweet deal if you ask me.

  • Funkee Dynamite

I didn’t really have an opinion on this even after seeing the Nintendo Direct for it, but this short advert has me intrigued all of a sudden.

  • Zuxs13

I will be picking one up for sure, maybe too.

  • Truthteller

They keep trying to repeat the novelty of the Wii while not realizing (I can’t believe that they could not see it) that it was a novelty and a one-time deal.

    • Gregg

Because it wasn’t. Wii Fit, made a fortune.

      • Jacob D. Taylor

Yeah Wii Fit was the second best selling game on the system and Iwata just announced that its current user base is still massive.

  • baelnic

I’m pretty skeptical about this. Seems like a pretty crowded market for something like this especially considering you can get ones that sync with your cell phone. I guess it all depends if this sells simply for the free WiiU Fit.

It also seems like a missed opportunity for the kid fitness market by not making one that trains a Pokemon while you walk or a pet for Animal Crossing or whatever game you want to cross-promote with.

    • Jacob D. Taylor

That’s actually a pretty slick idea. A good way to encourage youth fitness. I like it. I do like Wii Fit though because it’s a concentrated way to focus on fitness and it does make it interesting. Like the hiking Mount Everest challenge or running the circumference of Australia. I really want to do that now! I think it’s pretty spiffy!

  • opikal

    No cycling tho :(

  • JeanPaul

WHEN WILL THEY START MAKING COMMERCIALS!??

    • The True Gamer

im assuming once theirs games worth advertising. hopefully.

  • Gregg

This is a really sweet deal. Wii Fit was a HUGE hit, I have 2, but only tried for a few min. It works. The WiiU deal, for $20? Is beyond a great deal, and, there are many many many Balance Boards floating around out there…

  • The True Gamer

If I want to work out, I’ll lift weights and walk on a treadmill, thank you very much.

    • Simon Stevens

wii fit is about offering fun ways to work out, it’s great to have those extra activities :) I go the gym all the time and I still use wii fit every day, helps keep me disciplined and in line.

    • Jacob D. Taylor

I agree with Simon. Everyone’s different yes, but I guarantee you there are alot of people who don’t agree with you in terms of how they like to work out! This just caters to them. A different crowd. I’m a weight lifter too, can’t run on a treadmill though cause I exceed the weight limit.

    • mch

Try it. I was joking about this too before i tried it (being vey athletic and every day pushing a very serious sport (icehockey)). If you got the discipline it does work very very well! And there are exercises than just for building up muscles in Wii Fit (U).

      • Cena’s Smirk

in, Canada, we just call it hockey. its implied that its played on ice. lol

  • bizzy gie

I hope they make Wii Fit U compatible with the 3DS’ pedometer.

    • mch

Does that make sense? The Fit Meter does also check your altitude and maybe more? ..and you could potentially upload your exercising (walking and jogging) twice if the 3ds was compatible.. hmm i don´t think that will happen

      • bizzy gie

There could be an appropriate update for stronger compatibility between the two softwares.

  • Iuri Borges

    It reminds me of PokeWalker

  • Simon Stevens

This’ll make a great prezzy for my mother dearest, christmas is vast approaching!

  • Michael Ocampo

Umm… So for those of us who don’t own a Wii balance board, how much will Wii Fit U cost us?

    • Tyler

I picked up a used balance board at gamestop for around $21 today
      .

    • Jacob D. Taylor

Yeah buying used is a great deal, if you wait til December I think 12th the bundle is $79.99 for the board game and meter, which isn’t bad considering it first released at $100 for the game and board. I was going to get the retail to get a second balance board, but considering I doubt it will have duel balance board functions I’m going with the download

  • Selina Kyle

Too bad my balance board broke…

    • Jacob D. Taylor

      :( Sad panda

  • Kirbyomega

I wished they sold the balance board and the meter without the game and then let us get the eshop version for free

  • Veries Seals

I love Wii Fit. Just downloaded the trial from shop. Will Get the fit meter.

  • mch

This is going to be great! I downloaded it already and the two Fit Meter (green and black) are on it´s way too! Happy exercising everybody :D

  • Emily Horton

This ad needs to be played over and over again on some major networks. They could turn the Wii U as popular with the masses as the Wii was!

  • ATherohatch

OMG this wii fit crap is killing the console, who wants to be fit when we can all be fat and play games

  • farrellbr

    I am getting this

  • Link of all time

i’m downloading this as soon as I get a balance board. maybe it won’t sit in my closet like my p90x.

  • Wiiluigi

Still have to pick mine up smh. I think it’s time to get back into shape. Lol

  • The True Gamer

i think nintendo needs to either join up with sony, or make a convential system that doesnt have much power. i dont need great graphics, just nintendo games on a cheap system that is actually affordable when compared to other systems (ps4 is crazy powerful, and is only $100 more expensive than wii u)
