CNET lists Wii U as one of its top 5 worst tech gifts

Every year around the holidays, there’s a mad dash to buy the newest phones, game consoles, and tech gifts for loved ones, family, and friends. We’re used to seeing lists like this toward the end of the year but we’re surprised to find that CNET thinks the Wii U is a “gift dud” for this year.

According to the announcer in the video, who listed the Wii U at Number 4 in tech gifts no one wants to receive, “There’s only two gaming consoles people want to buy this year and the Wii U isn’t one of them.” Ouch. He further goes on to mention the price cut issued by Nintendo earlier this year and states that he believes the Wii U will be on firesale before the end of the year.

This sort of thing is exactly the kind of publicity the Nintendo Wii U doesn’t need, as it’s listed along with throwaway gifts like aging DVD players and BlackBerry handsets. Seriously, CNET?

I’ve never trusted/used CNET before, and I sure as hell won’t now.

    • rp17

Honestly, who really cares what they think?

      • imthebestonlyonegood

All the millions of users that go to their website world wide and the 500,000 plus mobile CNET Google play app users not counting apple store

    • RockieOllie

Why are you guys giving CNET shit for speaking their mind!?

Lets be honest, Nintendo has been slipping these past few months. And based off of these few months, they have based their list off of its success and what it offers. CNET is just calling it how they see it.

I’m sure the great games we know and love from Nintendo will show up, but as of right now, I can completely see where they are coming from.

And of course ill get thumbs down for this because its not what you guys wanna here, but we should make this known to Nintendo in the hopes of making a better experience not just for us but for others as well.

      • GameBoy1979

You have to admit, though, it is suspect timing with the PS4 & NextBox launches quickly approaching.

        • RockieOllie

          So true.

      • pedro rosado

zelda, wii party u, super mario 3 D world, Price cut, more advertising(several tours/demonstration), wii fit u,…. Yeah, RockieOllie, i think nintendo has really not been doing anything in the past months…. Besides, they are forgeting about the advantages of having a wiiu. from now on wiiu is THE ONLY FREE TO PLAY ONLINE CONSOLE. I want to see Cnets face when he sees wiiu sales after this christmas. as yee, i agree with gameboy about timming

        • GameBoy1979

I totally agree. I feel like with SM3DW, the sales will jump dramatically. Add all the others & it will just be the icing on the cake. Sales aren’t there yet, but they are definitely coming.

          • pedro rosado

yes, just see what what wii party u made to japan wiiu sales ( 1500%), from 3000 to 33000 units, if im not mistaken.

        • RockieOllie

“I’m sure the great games we know and love from Nintendo will show up,
but as of right now, I can completely see where they are coming from.”

The least you could do is read my post bruh.

Also, the Wii U is very bare bones online. I was surprised to find out that Wii Sports Club doesn’t even have a rematch or join friends game feature in it.

          • pedro rosado

First, i read your post and im saying THOSE GAMES are already here.Oh, and the Wii U is reduced online because wii sports club ( a remaked version of wii sports ) doesnt have rematch!Wow, i cant argue with that! Its such a strong argument. ><

          • RockieOllie

You say the games are already here, but did you bother to realize that this was made BEFORE those games were out?

Wii Party has only proven to be a success in Japan. World Wide not so much.

Lets wait and see how 3D World and ALBW does before we jump the gun.

Wii Sports club is one example, of how simple features such as this are glaringly omitted.

I replied to some below with this, but if you want more:

How about a join game feature like the 3DS?
            Unified accounts system?
How about better online support and features?
            (Wii
Sports Club doesn’t have the ability to play with friends, you can’t
rematch people online and you can’t add personal rivals.
How about a way to directly talk to your buds, without having to go through miiverse?
            Voice chat?
The ability to play Wii games with Wii U gamepad controllers ?
How about be able to use other systems (gamepro pad, wii mote)?

          • pedro rosado

This was made arround HOLIDAYS, by that time plenty of good games were out. Besides im talking about Wii party U not wii party, and sales worldwide arent shown.Third , what is your obssession with wii sports club issues??? they only released a part of the game, im sure more will come, so why dont you wait till the full game is out before judging it? About the miiverse, most online games have either in game messaging or voice chat or both, so you only go to miiverse if you want.Ability to play wii games with the gamepad? doesnt seem very possible, diferent buttons, compatibility,…About the voice chat…..no comments, have you never seen a BIG ICON in your Wii U menu saying Wii U CHAT???Able to use other systems??? The wii remote and the gamepad are CONTROLLERS for the Wii U, not systems, and every game is compatible with them

          • RockieOllie

Correction it was released and posted on their site around the holidays.

WWHD bombed in Japan, it did fairly well in Europe and North America. W101 bombed everywhere. Pikmin 3 did fairly well, but not enough to push sales.

Even Iwata has came out and said this:

“Pikmin 3 and Zelda: Wind Waker HD did not significantly boost console sales during the six month”

            http://nintendoeverything.com/details-from-nintendos-latest-financial-results/

These are words straight from the head honchos mouth bruh.

          • pedro rosado

WTF do you mean by realeased and posted, dont you see it IS THE SAME.Ghosh…Besides, the discussion was about their effort, then you just said a lot of things you thought that didnt

exist on you wiiu and i justified it, and now you, after probably not reading my answer, decide to say some sales. ON the article it said the WII U sales TRIPLED!Isnt that an improvement??? Arent these the kind of games as you said ” that we love”??? Then i cant see you as someone who likes nintendo games

          • RockieOllie

CNET recorded this dude and taped him in from of a camera. With video editing and composting, i would say this was all recorded a week prior to this posting of the list.

It also said it lost “23.2 million yen”

Yes it is an improvement. But as Iwata has stated already
“The Wii U hardware still has a negative impact on Nintendo’s profits”

It’s going to take a lot more than that bruh.

The Wii U is all I have as a gaming console (Rudy-The-Ferret), that under some circumstances would label me as a Nintendo fanboy

I’m really waiting for Smash bros tbh…

        • imthebestonlyonegood

I’m glad to see nintendrones rely on casuals to sell their system. The funny part is Nintendo fans are casuals

      • Jacob D. Taylor

How have they been slipping? Seriously, I’m absolutely fed up with claims against Nintendo that can’t be substantiated. Is it the games? No they have a great line up out already and coming as well. Is it the lack of quality in the games? Nope, not even close. Each rendition of the latest series has been the best to date. Is it the system? Not even close, it functions fabulously and has more to offer than any other system on the market. So where is Nintendo failing? Please elaborate. How can Nintendo make a ‘better experience?” What should they do differently?

        • RockieOllie

Answer to your question: http://wiiudaily.com/2013/06/iwata-on-nintendo-wii-u-failure/ Their estimates have fallen drastically short of their goals and projections of the system. Their are glaring omissions from the system that dates the system.

How about a join game feature like the 3DS?
          Unified accounts system?
How about better online support and features?
(Wii Sports Club doesn’t have the ability to play with friends, you can’t rematch people online and you can’t add personal rivals.
How about a way to directly talk to your buds, without having to go through miiverse?
          Voice chat?
The ability to play Wii games with Wii U gamepad controllers ?

These are just a couple issues…

          • Jacob D. Taylor

I don’t call those ‘slipping’, maybe a few, like the unified accounts, but the rest are policies, very different from incapability as you might call it. In fact I prefer some of the things that are on here. Never playing the same guy twice, voice chat. I personally don’t like prepubescent assholes having the ability to speak. As for Wii games with Wii U gamepad, I’d rather take that than a failed system like the Xbox one that doesn’t even let me play the games.

Edit: What better online support could Nintendo offer? Most game problems with the internet are developer issues.

          • RockieOllie

Well I call it slipping, Iwata says: “We have so far failed to make propositions worthy of Wii U’s position as a successor to the Wii…”

            http://www.gamepolitics.com/2013/10/31/nintendo-wii-u-has-failed-worthy-successor-wii#.UnLnyRDWrYQ

“Never playing the same guy twice, voice chat. I personally don’t like prepubescent assholes having the ability to speak”

You may not prefer it, but a lot of people would. People should at least have the OPTION. There will be a great tennis and bowling match with people online, and I would love to play with them again i should at least have the option. Isn’t that the philosophy behind the Wii U? A system that caters to U(you)? And you say pubescent assholes, but what about your friends on miiverse who aren’t? friends on miiverse who trust and wouldn’t mind talking to while you play your games? And even if they are assholes you again should have the OPTION to mute them.

“As for Wii games with Wii U gamepad, I’d rather take that than a failed system like the Xbox one that doesn’t even let me play the game”

I’m really not worried about the Xbox1 or its competition (don’t care for it either) I’m worried about Nintendo. Regardless of what the Xbox1/PS4 is offering there is no reason why we can only view games on our gamepads. The controller has all of the same inputs as the Wii Classic controller i see no reason why it can’t do it. Hell! there are 3rd party Wii U pro controllers that can play on both Wii and Wii U games.

I would love 3D Mario World to have online co-op. During college, i don’t have my buds to play with locally. It would be accessible to a lot more people if they didn’t have to worry about meeting up in the real.

      • blindtiger

Because they are “speaking their mind” with an absurd opinion when they should be objectively reviewing tech. One of the 5 worst gifts? Really? Do you really think that is a valid opinion? I’m tired of people defending “opinions.” blogs are for individual opinions not tech reviews! If you are going to give a biased review. .. Then let someone with an unbiased one review it. Or maybe a collection of reviews and an average. Don’t defend a**holes who might be getting paid to slam one thing and praise another. Opinions are great and useful to a degree but there is entirely too much unwarranted wii u hate out there. Please don’t justify it. I won’t down vote you… I’m just tired of hearing it.

Opinions have their place… Like blogs and comment sections, not in reviews.

        • RockieOllie

Okay will lets, look at the facts here:

The Xbox1/PS4 have pre-orders of about 2.5 million.

That’s practically 80 to 90% of what the Wii U made in it’s 6months head start. So they were justified in saying that a lot of people are getting PS4/XB1, but we’ll see in the coming weeks how that plays out.

It was a top 5 list it wasn’t a review. So as you stated their opinions were laid out in the right medium.

I love Nintendo, so I’m not going to blindly ignore the issues. Even Iwata has came out and said the Wii U has failed as a successor to a Wii,

          • blindtiger

wii u has had its faults and might not be as good as xbox one or ps4… BUT it is not one of the five worst gifts by ANY stretch of the imagination. that is just hateful. wii u sold 3 million in its first month. more than psxbox preorders. then it dropped off just like ps4 and xbox will do too… watch. i dont blindly agree with everything nintendo does… theyve sucked a lot and ive wanted to smash my gamepad more than once but i refuse to listen to the ridiculous amount of biased “reviews” and defend them as opinion. wildly blind opinion has no place on a legitimate tech review site.

          • RockieOllie

Hey, it’s on CNET’s opinionated top 5 worst list. It’s their opinion. One that they are justified in making at this current time.

And actually, The Wii U sold 425,000 in its first week. It
reached 3. mill over the next 6 months prior to release. The PS4/Xbox pre orders are said to be about 2.5mil+. The Wii U currently is sitting at about 3.9Mill.

Bro even Iwata has come out and said the Wii U has failed, what else do they need???

      • Andreas Sunde

We’re not giving them shit for speaking their mind. We’re giving them shit for a known Xbox fanboy telling people to stay away from the Wii U, with no reason other than “trust me”.

        • Magnus Eriksson

Did you check last episodes of Level Up? The last one was from Game Expo. Nothing about Wii U. The only news about Wii U here in Scandinavia is things like this article or stories about WiiU’s discontinuation. I dont think that will bring sales up.

    • Guest

I used to foe everything but their reviews are always pretty terrible. It’s like the people that so them were hired off the street with no technology background at all. “Oh you’ve heard of technology before? You must be a perfect fit!”

    • BGhp

But they’re right though, why get a Wii U if the can get a PS4 or Xbox One. There being real here.

People are going to want strong third party, nintendo doesn’t have that. People are going to want the games with better graphics. Todays trends are Playstation or XBoX, todays kids only know these two I don’t know if they would like it if they got a Wii U

      • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

        I bought a Wii U over a PS4 and XBone. I’m being real.

    • imthebestonlyonegood

If you’ve never used it how do you know you can’t trust it? CNET is reliable and has more credentials than Wii u daily, Nintendo fans and Nintendo have. CNET is the top leader like softonic and share software all the time, every software company WANTS THEIR PRODUCT THERE. CNET said this not ign, CNET is reliable

      • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

I trust IGN more than CNET. I actually trust IGN quite a bit. Plus, I have seen a thing or two from CNET before. I always kinda thought they were bad

        • imthebestonlyonegood

How do you think a website is not reliable from 2 visits. Wii u daily is less reliable than ign. Ign is not even reliable, You would think that a website that is trusted by millions wordwide and corporations with they’re softwares and early software and hardware testing by them would be considered reliable.

  • Rick Valenta

    Dicks….

    • ShilaquilOneal

Well guess which website just landed on my top 5 of the entire internet worst tech sites.

      • Jacob D. Taylor

Right under Motley Fool and Daily Finance?

  • wober2

Cnet is pretty big in the tech world. I would think that semi savvy parents might look at cnet before making a decision. I cannot believe it is compared to blackberry though… or rather in the same list.

    • BIG Franky

I can assure you that isn’t the case. no one… NO ONE consults a website when buying gifts off of a list. FACT. if a kid is asking for a Wii U, no father/mother will research and get them something else instead of what they want… except for maybe an absolute SHIT parent.

      • wober2

Hopefully, I worry about Cnet’s clout making the article high on search results for the wiiu. I hope kids are asking for the wiiu, I assume kids ask for shit pads and call of duty on xbox but i dont really know kids…

  • Skelterz

    Microsoft Propaganda

    • Rick Valenta

Does Microsoft own CNET?! That would be bad…

      • BIG Franky

MS hates cNet as well since they always rank Apple products above MS products…

        • JAYCEE989

True that, cnet always bashes Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 OS and anything that pretty much doesn’t have a bitten fruit logo. I absolutely love my Wii U and cant wait till Super Mario 3D World comes out on the 22, the Wii U is a hit with gamers and a miss with spec snobs.

  • Sonic the Hedgehog

Wii U is anything but worst. If you can’t give a console to a kid without the Nintendo games, the birthday boy/girl won’t be happy.

    • Majora’s Mask

who wants a ps4 for christmas? only thing you see is a pretty picture with only fps games no multiplayer with family nothing to fill christmas

      • rp17

My inner Nintendo fanboy aside, i don’t care if someone wants a PS4 over a Wii U. But who would want a Xbox One? WiiUDaily keeps saying “you can win an xbox one from our sister site,” but I wouldn’t want an xbox if someone gave it to me for free!

        • http://ejercitogeek.net/ Mercurio2054

there is a daily xbox site?
          oh… wow.

        • Daniel Gonzalez

          I would. I’d sell it.

          • rp17

Lol I was going to say that

        • Majora’s Mask

i d want a free xbox only to play ryse son of rome and titanfall whatever we say they re good games

        • imthebestonlyonegood

i would rather an xbox one than a wii u. Pros vs cons and wii u has nothing but cons

      • Jacob D. Taylor

I don’t mine PS4, because it is so niche now. It’s even more Niche than Nintendo anyone Sony fanboy will kick me for (only proving my point). They are graphic whores, FPS, and a small sidetrack of exclusive titles. I like that category. I like games that are truly uninteresting to some demographics. Some people don’t like Beyond or the Last of Us. I do. I also LOVE Mario Bros. As does the rest of the entire freaking world, oh except for sony and microsuck fanboys. But you are right. What does it offer? One thing. That’s it. Xbone is even worse, I swear I do not understand anyone who wants to get that system. It’s just beyond me. B rated games that look like Hell, have nothing two them. Seriously Killer Instinct and Ryse? Let’s hit the A button as fast as we can and call ourselves hardcore gamers because we watch titties and blood in our games. This “Hardcore” sweep should honestly be retitled Toddler’s Toys with Inappropriate Content.

        • Majora’s Mask

i like the ps4 i have actually said i wanted a ps4 if i could afford it but i do prefer the wii u but what to do? I am 15 no income i barely bought the wii u last year

          • Jacob D. Taylor

Yeah that too. There are so many games on Wii U how can I spend $400 on a system with no games when I can spend that on awesome games for the Wii U!

          • Majora’s Mask

i had 550 euros last year which i was saving from 2011 to buy a wii u and i unfortunately made the biggest mistake of my life which was to sell my 3ds so i had enough money for the wii u .So on launch day i get the system along with nsmbu and batman arkham city armored edition and ac3 live or die edition.BOOM 470 euros gone.Later i purchase lego city undercover (which i still havent opened that thing even has the plastic protection) BOOM more money gone . Later i purchase tloz ww hd and a pro controller.BOOM 130€ IN ONE day.Now i have 65€ to buy 3d world. How the hell would someone buy a ps4? And i am afraid the wii u wont pay off because we havent seen any good games coming or good graphics

          • Jacob D. Taylor

Wait… serious? You havent seen any good games coming or good graphics? Or was that scarcasm?

          • Majora’s Mask

i mean in the short run….. expect 3d world everything is garbage as said in reviews and mario kart u is a little too far

          • Jacob D. Taylor

Gotcha. So between now and say february? Im excited for dkc:tf but i LOVE DK platfirmers

          • Majora’s Mask

me too but i the wii u has too many platformers nsmbu ,3d world ,sonic lost world.I would have prefered a metroid game from retro

  • AAAkabob

They’ll be eating their words once Smashbros comes out. Unfortunately, the kids these days only care for Minecraft, phone games and CoD, so I see where they’re coming from.

    • Shota

      THIS^

    • ScrewAttack

      ADHD! ADHD everywhere!

    • John Andalora

What’s wrong with Minecraft? I get why the other two aren’t great, but why is Minecraft on the same tier with CoD?

      • AAAkabob

Not trying to knock it, it’s just what is popular among kids these days.

        • John Andalora

          That is true.

  • Zuxs13

You are welcome for this, and this was a terrible story they posted. He gives no reason what so ever not to own these. And their site even rated the Wii U rather well 3 out 0f 5 stars. Which for CNET is great. They simply made this in order to piss people off and post on their site. Avoid their site at all costs.

  • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

That’s funny because I list CNet and their affiliated sites as amongst the top WORST tech sites out there. They are proof of what companies can get when they bribe bloggers. If you read some of their published blogs that they try to pass off as news and reviews it is nothing but filled with hate and negativity topped with childish name calling and immature tactics.

That is until some company pays them off and then they sing high praises.

I used to follow information off of CNet and their sister site ZDNet for many years and then some point they went from providing technology news, information, and reviews to providing click bait articles with sensational headlines projecting doom and hate along one sided reviews with twisted information and sometimes downright lies.

    • http://about.me/overlordror Ashley King

Agreed, many people don’t know that CNET and ZDNet are essentially paid advertisements these days. If you want unbiased information on tech, check out Tom’s Hardware and AndanTech.

  • old_skool

Doesn’t matter. I love my WII U, you love your Wii U, and anyone who tries the system loves it too.

    • Simon Stevens

          • Justagamer

Awesome i own almost all of them..Wii U is awesome
Wii U first party PS4 third party

          • Simon Stevens

That’s the way ya do it ;) although I’m sure there will be bountiful third party exclusives for Wii U too :D

          • Justagamer

I know there will just not From EA and that is not a loss for us

          • Simon Stevens

EA will never get my support or my cash, no matter what they bring to the table

          • DragonSilths

Starwars Battlefront will be on Wii U. Disney likes Nintendo and has a good relationship with Nintendo. So they will force EA to suck it up and put it on Wii U. Though for me the only 3rd party game I want on Wii U, is Destiny.

          • Simon Stevens

True that, I would love Destiny on the Wii U, nobody can say no to Disney, unless you want gangsta Mickey at your door busting buttons in your buttocks

          • SomeFluffer64

If Battlefront is on Wii U, I will wet my pants in joy.

          • imthebestonlyonegood

EA doesnt lose anything not being on the wii

          • Wren Justin Umlauf

I still doubt we will see it on Wii U, but I really hope your right

          • imthebestonlyonegood

The best selling games not on the wii u? OK

          • Kiefer Wickham

EA might give the wii u more games… but probably because they dont want to be voted worst company 2 years in a row, not because they want what the consumer wants

          • DragonSilths

They were 2 years in a row. You mean 3 lol.

          • Justagamer

I just got AC4 for Wii U and it is a awesome game

          • BGhp

People don’t usually go crazy over old games, digital games or old digital games in the holidays.(there not bad games). I love everything about the Wii U it has the potential to do better the Xbox one and PS4 but not like this. If this was what Nintendo was all about then I wouldn’t even like Nintendo in the first place.

          • Simon Stevens

It’s gonna take more than Nintendo only content to do that, they need to go after exclusive third party and make it a system everyone no matter what console they oen feel they MUST have it

          • BGhp

Well it doesn’t have to be exclusive third party. For people to see the Wii U as an quale to the PS4 or Xbox one you would want to show people that the Wii U is getting all of the same games features as the PS4 and Xbox one is getting. And to show that how the Wii U is unique this is where you need to show the Gamepad and exclusives.

          • Simon Stevens

That’ll get harder and harder as devs start to utilize the power of the hardware, I’m sure they could still shoe horn those games on there but I think it has to not only look right for the system but it has to play right and have all the same features or at least make up for it with cool gamepad features, I still firmly believe third party will jump on board but it’s probably gonna be the kind of 3rd party that that the ds and 3ds has, dragon quest, final fantasy crystal chronicles, maybe exclusives from Sega like Billy hatcher, they have options to be different and pull it off but it’ll take making it happen rather than seeing if it does by waiting for it.

All those posts from you…. have you noticed yet how no one cares what you have to say?

Looks like it is time for you hang your head low and walk away.

          • imthebestonlyonegood

I guess the truth hurts and people don’t reply in order to evade the truth.

          • Simon Stevens

            Damn dawg, that’s cold lol

          • greengecko007

When people argue that the Wii U doesn’t have many games, they are talking about quality titles that also appeal to a large number of people and aren’t available on other consoles or PC. Of the games you listed, the quality titles, judging from reviews and general reception, are Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101 (both of which of niche titles), WW HD (a remake), and Rayman Legends (multiplatform).

          • Simon Stevens

I can understand that, truth is, I have to buy games for my son as well, the games on my list, some I enjoyed, some he enjoyed, if I was buying for just myself, that list on retail would be cut in half and would look pretty bare bones, having said that, call of duty ghosts, batman, monster hunter 3 etc wasn’t on my list and probably serve an audience outside myself.

I won’t defend Nintendo’s strategy on third party because it has been a flop, there has been gaping wide holes outside of first party releases and because of that, the momentum us fading in and out of peoples interest towards it, Nintendo’s consoles sell when a new game comes out (or a couple, looking at you 3ds), at that point, it becomes a must have system but when they go through a dry wasteland of no games again, momentum fades and nobody buys it.

This is where third party comes in and carrys the system while no first party ips are in sight, that third party isn’t there right now, why?, because it isn’t worth making exclusive games for a system nobody wants, it isn’t even worth porting games over to a system that isn’t selling.

A way to fix this is either hire more mercenary and knuckle down on your first party ips so it’s literally one after another or invest in third parties, get a ball rolling, get the types of games that are different and appeal to other audiences, if that’s successful, other third parties like what they see and want to develop for the console, right now, they are being stubborn and won’t take this approach, this will be there downfall and ultimately it means we miss out on having more games.

          • greengecko007

All true. I’m hoping for Nintendo’s sake that Super Mario 3D World ends up being that universal must have game that boosts unit sales for them. I admit to being hard on Nintendo, but it’s only because I don’t like seeing them put themselves in a bad position.

          • Simon Stevens

I love them but I’m living in the real world and the real world is tough, Mario 3D world certainly adds a great game to a growing library and it looks great but it still isn’t that cutting edge game that’s gonna make a lot of people go out and buy it but of course a good library will, I can think of at least 20 must play games for the 3DS, I’m sure whoever is interested in buying one thought of those same games, regardless of year of release, there good games to play that people will buy, Wii U isn’t there yet, maybe next year or 2015 will be the year that it’s there but that’s from a first party perspective, they’d be there or definitely there nect year had the third party been there but it’s not unfortunately and the longer it stays like that, the harder it’ll be to crawl out of that hole, Mario 3D world will maybe push about 2 million units with other titles being there to help it this holiday but not more than that when they choose a time to release like right now with the hype of ps4 and xbox one, zelda and mario party for 3ds coming out on the same day, who does that?, at this point there competing with there self but hey, in Iwata’s head I’m sure we all print money out of our backsides.

          • RK

Yeah, being a 1st party sometimes quite hard too. Wii U only need a focus on control balance, less slipperyness and make completed digital revamp from games like Super Mario 64, Kirby 64, Sonic Chronicles,… Then they’ll be on top in no time!
            Let’s support Wii U!!!

        • Andrew W Garttmeyer

That is great that you guys are happy. I would say I am half-satisifed.

The point I wanted to write here is that reports like this, from non-nes fan boys, are NOT going to help either NES or US as fanboys. Nes really needs to right this ship stat. I am not even sure of the consequences, I suppose last console for them, or a very short support window for this gen, but I know none of it is good, just as ignoring all of this is also not good for us or nes.

      • bizzy gie

        We’re Wii U brothers!

We’re happy and we’re singing and we’re lovers.

        Give me a franchise.

        • Justagamer

Wii U is for the real gamers…Mario anyone?

          • Simon Stevens

Avoid shitty shooters at all cost, buy a Wii U :)

          • imthebestonlyonegood

Thanks for reminding me to not buy starfox and metroid

          • Simon Stevens

            Your welcome

          • Justagamer

I already have the Wii U Ive own mine since the release last year

          • Simon Stevens

            I know lol it’s a slogan :p

          • Justagamer

Oh that’s cool anyways do have 3ds as well

        • Simon Stevens

They blessed us both with the gift of LOZ, if playing it is wrong, I don’t wanna be right, I’m calling on you cause I can’t do it myself, the choice can be no other, be my wii u lover <3

        • Veries Seals

Yep I am at 48 Wii U titles now! And i have more to buy! Love my Wii U as well brothers.

    • Justagamer

I think it is the best of the consoles myself and im getting the PS4 but nintendo always have the best first party games

    • Sydney Ultrasyd

I love the Wii U but I think it DOES matter. Bad publicity is never good. I’d better see people buying WiiU than bashing it :/

      • Magnus Eriksson

But why is everyone bashing it? Have you checked out its competitors? Wii U is a toy compared to those.

        • Daniel Gonzalez

That’s the one area that Nintendo really should have put some more effort in.

        • Zorlac79

I am sure you know that since you have one!
Has it red ringed on you yet?
          What about a YLOD?
Those are the best Christmas presents!! A $4-500 system that dies in a few months, with a FANTASTIC company that tells you that you are just outside of your 90 day warranty!
          Have fun with that.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

So much hate in your post.

          • Zorlac79

Where do you get hate from that?
WOW, that confirms you are senseless…..

          • Daniel Gonzalez

The fact that you bash the competition and assuming that both the PS4 and Xbox One are going to YROD or even RROD upon arrival. What you said was baseless and you know it. Lol. I think you got it backwards on who is senseless here, especially getting mad over an opinion. Shows your maturity level.

I know you’re a Nintendo fan and all, but have more sense than that. You are hateful, otherwise, you wouldn’t have the need to try to insult people, correct? Silly Zorlac. :P

          • Magnus Eriksson

Unable to see whats happening with WiiU but makes baseless predictions about consoles that are not even launched yet. Also without taking into concideration how people are hyped up with these two, while basically everyone was lukewarm to WiiU already before launch. Thats either hating, or trolling from your part.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

I know right? I even gave the Wii U the benefit of the doubt before it launched and felt it would be far better than the Wii. No ones fault that it had a bad start. Saying that the competition is going to have the same problems is just wishful thinking.

Besides, I do recall the Wii having a failure rate as well. I know he’ll bring up the “nowhere near 360 and ps3″ which is what I’d expect. Point is, no hardware is perfect, not even Wii U. It’s rather silly to go the immature route, and start hating on another product just because it has a chance to have a strong first year over the Wii U. I find it fanboyish. :P

          • Magnus Eriksson

Haha! I dont even know what you are talking about :D

          • greengecko007

I don’t see very many people buying 2006 models of the PS3 or Xbox 360 this holiday season, but that’s just me.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Exactly. Those days are over. The slim models resolved those issues and very few failed since then, and you don’t hear about it often. I’m quite sure they’re not going to make that same mistake. I could be wrong, but going around acting like a nub and saying they are both going to fail is childish at best.

        • Sydney Ultrasyd

No body can deny that the Wii U is a toy compared to the other. But that doesn’t mean that it’s bad. It could be used in a much better way. And I think that the ones who say “everyone who tries it love it” are wrong, sadly, it’s just a fact. So many people having one and who doesn’t play it anymore, or people already selling theirs. 2014 will be, hepofully, a better year for Wii U.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Exactly. I tried it several times over a friends place and a few times at Gamestop, and I sure didn’t love it. Not everyone will love it, no doubt. I think fans just want everyone to that badly.

2014 could be a better year for the Wii U, at least we expect it to be. We’ll see as the future isn’t written yet.

          • imthebestonlyonegood

Nintendo fans knows NOBODY likes their that’s why they get all happy with Wii u sports and Wii fit u because they want casuals to buy their systems, because no REAL GAMER wants one. Its the sad truth

    • andrewjcole

Strange. Everyone on Miiverse says they love their Wii U, everyone I know who has one loves it. I know some xbox lovers that fell in love with their Wii U once they got to try it. Hmmm…

      • Magnus Eriksson

Its called fanboyism. If you look at the contributors in this comment section you will see that they even celebrate Nintendos most stupid decisions as genius acts.

        • Zorlac79

So then what is it called when you hate it but have to hang around it all the time?
Like the little loser that has to follow someone to pick on them to make themselves feel better.
It is sad really, kinda embarrassing to watch.

          • Magnus Eriksson

And still you watch you angry kid.

          • Zorlac79

            Yeah, kid…..
I am over twice your age since you are probably pushing 14, maybe 15 years old.
It shows in your post by your lack of intelligence.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Actually, Im quite intelligent. Also quite educated. And I dont need to insult you to prove Im right either. Not that I care about your riduculous insults. They only makes me feel superior to you. :)

          • Filip Johansson

Please refrain from using utterly broken English when claiming to be “quite educated”.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

He doesn’t hail from an English speaking country, so it isn’t his first language. Perhaps you should think before you type such silly nonsense. :P

          • Filip Johansson

I’m fairly sure he’s from a Nordic country, most likely Sweden looking at his name. I live in Sweden myself so I do know the type of English education that is taught in Sweden, if he were quite educated I don’t think he would make the mistakes he does. Swedish people are taught the English language very early, even as early as first grade in school.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Twice his age, and your maturity level is half of it at best. I’m around your age and don’t even have such an attitude as yours. If you had any intelligence, then you wouldn’t need to try to belittle others, now would you? I thought so. You prove your lack of intelligence and maturity when you try hard to talk down others. Don’t be a hypocrite. You anger easy and it shows. :P

          • imthebestonlyonegood

            Niggah You Retarded

      • imthebestonlyonegood

The very few that buy it obviously like it

        • Zorlac79

Better than thousands of angry xbox owners of a RROD system!
          HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAH

But microsh@ft owns you, as you will run to the store and buy one day one, puppet.

          • imthebestonlyonegood

who said i like microsoft. This proves you have no common sense and iliterate because nowhere im my post would incline anyone to think i like the xbox. You sir are retarded, good day

    • BGhp

But it can do better, the Wii U is a good console but I’m not satisfied where its at. This year is not the Wii u’s year.

When its the Wii U’s year we will all know. Maybe next year or the year before that.

      • Simon Stevens

It’ll be a true champion when it gets all that 3rd party that was promised, doesn’t have to be the same as ps4 and xbox 1 is getting, it just has to be good and enticing to peep peoples interest, people would happily pick it up regardless of wether or not they have an xbox 1 and ps4 if the games gave them a reason to.

      • Magnus Eriksson

True! Nintendo need to pull themselves together now.

      • greengecko007

The year before next year is the current year… But I get what you mean.

    • Magnus Eriksson

Everyone loves it but all those who hates it. According to this article it seems to be quite many. Yet another nail in the coffin. Its so sad… R.I.P WiiU :'(

      • Simon Stevens

wobbelldy wobbelldy drop into the grave plot *sarcasm intended*

    • LopsidedPasta

I’m not going to lie, this one kind of hurts. It’s a semi-understandable call for a non-gaming site, but the Wii U isn’t nearly THAT bad. It’s a very nice console. How much do you want to bet next year it will be on their “buy” list?

      • Simon Stevens

Wii U is currently 199 pounds :) on shopto and play.com at least, bundled with Mario bros u and Luigi u, parents won’t buy that over a ps4?, good move from Nintendo, lowering the price temporarily for Christmas, lets hope it happens at retail too

      • Magnus Eriksson

500$ that it wont. How do we make this bet formalised?

        • Zorlac79

          Don’t think he cares…

          • Daniel Gonzalez

            You seem to do.

          • Zorlac79

Yeah, I seem to care by telling him no one else does.
            Um, OK, sure buddy.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

If you didn’t care at all, you wouldn’t need to address that he didn’t care. Considering no one downvoted or upvoted him confirms the obvious. You obviously can’t stand an opposite opinion to yours and it shows by your poor responses. Tsk tsk tsk….:P

          • Filip Johansson

There’s a difference between caring about addressing that no one cares and caring about what was said. In this particular case you should realize that he could simply care about informing him about who cares. Is it that difficult to distinguish the two?

          • Daniel Gonzalez

” In this particular case you should realize that he could simply care
about informing him about who cares.”

That defeats your own argument. Lol. If he cares simply just to inform him that he cares, then he obviously cares. If he didn’t care about what was said, then why did he read it to begin with and respond to it? Because he cared, right? No offense, but you wasted your time there. I’m not questioning your intelligence, but that was a flawed point. Good day to you my friend. :P

          • Filip Johansson

It doesn’t defeat my argument in the least. You’re missing the point. If you would pay attention, you would notice that what you’re referring to when you say he cares, is how he cares about informing the guy about who he thinks cares or who doesn’t. He does not have to care about what the person said to care about informing the guy about how people feel about the matter. Do you see the difference here? Unless you were just trying to say he cares about something else than what the guy he responded to was saying, in that case that’s about as relevant as me responding to the post with “I like fish”, so I will assume this is not what you meant.

    • catsby

I got a Wii U, Played Pikmin 3 and Rayman legends with friends. Now its just collecting dust. Also have new super mario wii u but no one liked it :

I might get super smash bros when its released though, Depending if there is enough new content.

  • Dennis

CNET, wat are jou doing? Lear How to think!

  • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

I like how they show the amazon listing, which didn’t have the actual price on it, since amazon is grumpy at Nintendo.

    • Nate

Thought the same thing. It was a marketplace seller’s price they were showing.

  • Petri

I don’t know what I have done, but I got mail bombed every day by CNET with random things, finally remembered to click that little unsubscribe link.
But this is right up there with digital foundry’s COD comparison and motley fools market predictions.
    Not really any worthwhile arguments.

  • jreed3842

Wow… I mean… I don’t understand how this can be one of the worst consoles… It’s been a hit with my friends and Family (even friends who aren’t fans of Nintendo) And I’ve only purchased two games for it right now! Imagine what will happen once games like Smash Bros., 3D World, and Mario Kart come out.
To me Wii U is an extremely unique experience. I love the two “windows” into the world of the game. I gotta say, I’m incredibly pleased with my Wii U!

    • verymetal

Really? What two games do you own?

      • Daniel Carvalho

I don’t understand why the downvotes for you, since you’re only asking what games he has… people on this site sometimes…

        • Daniel Gonzalez

It has to do with his past comments. That’s all i can gather from it. It is rather silly to hold grudges.

  • 7Down

Oh the trolls are getting their dicks wet once they see this.

    • AAAkabob

“Oh the trolls are getting their dicks wet once they see this”

What? So they get laid when articles like this come out?

      • 7Down

You just had to ruin it didn’t you?

      • 7Down

I thought I replied to this already… I was using it as a metaphor, you didn’t get it…?

      • Phillip Fauble

        Yeah… that’s not fair.

    That was stupid……….

Cnet pretty much craps on anything that isn’t Apple so I can’t say I’m surprised.

  • Will (ishigum)

He doesn’t even give a single logical explanation for his reasoning about Nintendo like he did with the other products. Oh and I would love to receive a DVD player since my multi-disk DVD player burned out. FAIL…

  • verymetal

It all comes down to one thing games! I mentioned this earlier, but people really need to truly ask themselves if they are a proud Wii U owner. There is not one first party Wii U game that is revolutionary and justifies owning the Wii U. The console is basically 1 year old and articles like this one should force Nintendo to put their huge egos aside, and deliver quality content that pushes the limits of game play. Also, you mean to tell me that Mario Kart and Super Smash are so technologically advanced that they couldn’t be out this year? Come on, man. I just can’t comprehend why Nintendo would fail to market or produce any AAA games when it comes to the Wii U.

    • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

While I think Nintendo’s most anticipated games are yet to come I think there are plenty of games that justify owning a Wii U. It just comes down to the types of games you like to play. Seeing as I have not turned on my XBOX since last February and aside from occasionally playing games on my PC or 3DS the Wii U has been the main platform I have done my gaming on.

Also Nintendo and Huge egos usually do not go together. I have always found them to be a very humble company that admits their mistakes and works to make things better. It usually shows in the quality of their games too.

    • rp17

I would have bought a Wii U just for NSMBU, just for Nintendoland, just for Pikmin 3, etc. Those aren’t even the best games the Wii U offers as of now, and the best is yet to come. And I am sorry Nintendo didn’t rush out a mediocre game with the words “Smash Bros” on it because you can’t wait another year.

  • https://twitter.com/Onyzora Ony

This is outrageous, certainly made by some unfaithable Nintendo hater.

  • InterTreble

cnet is famous to be expert in videogames… my 2-year-old nephew’s doodles are more interesting than this video which ultimately says nothing.

  • Gameonfool

    Nobody wants a wii u

    Till you play one

    • Justagamer

If you really like Wii U than i suggest trying Zombi U or Lego city good games to start with and best of luck

      • Gameonfool

probably lego city i enjoy wonering worlds with the character in view

        • Justagamer

Well it’s a huge game and if you like GTA then you might like this

      • imthebestonlyonegood

A kiddie game and A mediocre game is your recomendation?

        • Justagamer

          Get a life sean!

    • Andreas Sunde

Indeed. I didn’t really care about it until I tried it, two minutes and sold.

  • Phillip Fauble

20 bucks says he’s never touched one. The people that don’t like it seem to be the people who have never played it. Nintendo should probably write them a nice letter since this will definitely decrease their holiday sales.

  • armyofkittens

Man, that is a very major publication too that people tend to listen to.

  • Alexander Kleinwechter

What is cnet, never heard of it, seriously!

    • Starfoxguy

They review the latest phones, consoles, tablets, etc.

  • Agent721

Damn! Oh well, their hate doesn’t reduce any of the fun I have on it! And luckily, Nintendo’s target audience probably isn’t reading CNET.

    • Daniel Gonzalez

I don’t think anyone who games, gives a crap about their crapicles.

  • Agent721

I just hope we see ads on TV to promote the console…Nintendo needs a huge TV push.

    • verymetal

No way, its Nintendo! The name alone sales itself, right? That is obviously what the corporate suites think at Nintendo. Forget quality content for the Wii U, they have the 3DS that is making them all their money, they can afford to sit on the Wii U. For example, a new Nintendo Direct is coming tomorrow and it totally focuses on guess what? Yes, the 3DS! Forget focusing on upcoming Wii U software or anything related to the Wii U.

    • Prince Ali

I just saw an ad last night for SM3DW with a mention of the $299.99 price for a deluxe bundle at the end. I think Nintendo has just been waiting til Mario to start advertising. I don’t remember seeing any for the 3DS before SM3DL and then afterwards there were ads all over the place.

  • Joshua Landi

Who’s to say CNET isn’t on Sony’s payroll? OR perhaps just the gaming division. I have seen them give both microsoft and sony products bad reviews. But buying someone off is never an impossibility.

  • Nintendoplaystation

The comments are more peacefully than can be lol.

  • rp17

“There’s only two gaming consoles people want to buy this year and the Wii U isn’t one of them.” If it’s not the Wii U what are the other two? PS4 and what… the Ouya? It’s definitely not the xbone.

    • Fred

The 3DS. It’s it the best selling console right now?

  • Mike Jones

I notice something about the wii u.. girls love that donkey kong game in Nintendo land. lol.. i know people who bought the system after playing with it at my place saying that this is so cool. and that’s what the issues are. people just don’t know how cool the wii u actually is. I bet Nintendo will be the first to bring a virtual reality system simply because they do their own thing.

anyway PS4 isn’t backwards compatible nor will they have a lot of games in the beginning. I own a PS3 and trust me i’m not buying a PS4 till maybe next year or 2 years from now. Then again i barely play my PS3 and i even have GTA 5 but still find myself playing Zelda WW, COD, Splinter Cell, Tekken, Need for Speed on my Wii U and there’s still much more i need to buy for it. Then i have a lot of games for Wii so i think im more than occupied right now.

Lots of people are getting Wii U this xmas—–. F.uck Cnet.

  • Starfoxguy

This is why I don’t visit the site. They should have been in those Christmas stockings.

  • Ace

Welp…There’s another blow to the Wii U…

  • Maxime Lemieux

Okay then, give 500 $ to any parent out there to buy a game console for their kids this holiday… what will they come back with ???

    Certainly not a PS4 or Xbone :
    1. Well, If you haven’t preordered it you won’t be able to buy one until like may next year
    2. Any sensible parent won’t buy a ps4 with something like COD or Battlefield
    3. Kids these these want skylanders, I’m calling a huge sell of the wiiu/skylander bundle for christmas

  • http://ejercitogeek.net/ Mercurio2054

    CN what?

  • GameBoy1979

Wonder which company paid CNET the most to put that out there.

I guess ANY advertising is better than NO advertising, though. At least they got the Wii U’s name out there, ha!

    • Nate

I wouldn’t be surprised if they were paid. I know a lot of people were upset when they started putting sponsored reviews on their Web site this summer (I believe the sponsors were the companies of the items they were reviewing).

  • beerkin

Man………let’s all grab our Wii motes, get off our fat asses, march down to cnet and slaughter everyone that works there. Come on!!!! What do say? No …too much?

  • Simon Stevens

Considering Cnet don’t consider kids under the age of 10 to be in the gaming community, they are obviously going to tell you to purchase a xbox one and ps4, I’m sure they got payed handsomely for it too.

  • Arturo Perez

So the only next gen console that has a free online service,is fully is backwards compatible with its previous gen system and has the most interesting feature going on for it is considered the worst…..makes sense??????

    • Arturo Perez

Oh yea and i forget, the games dont require maditory game installs like other systems.

      • Jacob D. Taylor

Yeah the only system that has it’s own online community, free online game play, integrated TV control, free TVii, which honestly how do you even categorize? plays 2 generations worth of games, is considered the most indie friendly system this gen and has the largest back log of downloadable video games via irtual console ever. Sounds pretty shitty to me. I’d rather buy a half baked EA game that requires me to be connected to the internet even to play single player that I can’t play anywhere other than my house and monitors me while I play. That makes sense to me.

  • Schultz38

“There’s only two gaming consoles people want to buy this year…”

    The 3DS and 2DS, right??

    • Fred

That’s right and with that Zelda Triforce 3DS and the $99 2DS (black friday walmart) you can’t go wrong either way.

  • only god can judge me

Critics can say whatever they wish about nintendo still the fact remains as a wii u owner I enjoy my system and now that more games are near on the horizon I will enjoy it even more I could care less what critics say I bought the wii u for myself and I’m having fun so that’s all that matters and I’m loving my new skin as well.

    • Simon Stevens

Wish I’d gone white now looking at that skin!, would have saved me 80 quid at the time too >.<

      • only god can judge me

Lol yea I actually like the deluxe better just has so many smears and fingerprints so I went on youtube and saw a video of this skin and thought it was awesome so I decided to give it a try.

        • Simon Stevens

Holy shiz, it is a deluxe :o I want one lol mine’s a dust magnet

          • only god can judge me

Lol they have them on ebay for 20 it took 4 days for me to receive it

          • Simon Stevens

I’m definitely picking one up, that looks super sweet :D

    • Joey

Where did you get that skin?

      • only god can judge me

They have them on ebay for 20 not sure how many they have left but they are great.

    • Justagamer

      Awesome!

    • RyuNoHadouken

      sweet skin!!!!

      • only god can judge me

Thankyou as we all know by now the deluxe wii u is a fingerprint magnet plus my favorite color is red so I tried to spice it up a little they have a lot of nice wii u skins on ebay by vinylcity for 20

  • au8277

A lot of us Wii U Daily frequenters (who are obviously going to be big-time Nintendo fans) are failing to look at Nintendo from a the outside perspective of somebody who doesn’t necessarily “buy in” to the Nintendo philosophy. Frankly I’m not surprised that CNET badmouthed the Wii U at all.

CNET caters to, and maintains, a hardcore techie following that typically wants the latest and greatest; the fastest, most powerful and future-forward devices out there. They’re not going to look at the Wii U from the same perspective as your typical Nintendo diehard, who could care less (or at least claims to not care) about RAM, GPUs, Flops-per-second performance and so on. Nintendo fans care about the wonderful catalogue of classic Nintendo characters/franchises and unparalleled craftsmanship of Nintendo’s 1st and 2nd party game developers.

Look, I understand why Nintendo fans get upset that others don’t “get it,” but you can’t expect people who aren’t invested to just buy into something because of a history/nostalgia, devoted fan base, or established philosophy (no matter how on-point it may or may not be). You have to SHOW modern gamers, who may have never grown up with a Nintendo console, why what you’re offering is special and/or essential. Nintendo has failed to do that (although they’re trying to make amends as of late), and that’s why mainstream media outlets like CNET are so quick to discount them.

    • verymetal

Well said, I couldn’t agree more.

  • Lord Tywin

Only two gaming consoles that people want to buy this year, they say? Obviously they’re implying the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4. So, uh, no one would want a 3DS this holiday season? No one’s interested in getting a Wii U? What a joke! I remember when the media were writing off the SNES when it was about to be released in the US for the holiday season. Because of the success of the Sega Genesis in North America, they all believed the 16-bit SNES was doomed since everyone already had an 8-bit NES. Yeah, that worked out well, didn’t it?

    • Justagamer

They same posers said the same of the 3ds and look at it now

  • Justagamer

Do us Nintendo fans really give two cents what this poser thinks..If you like Wii U awesome and those who don’t fine but this console wars stuff is getting old ..Just game and buy what you like..Myself Wii U is fun and My kids love it and that is what matters

  • pedro rosado

who the hell cares?? i dont even know what/who is CNET

    • Nothing5555

Wow has CNET actually fallen this far as a tech web site?

    • RyuNoHadouken

      CNNs tech division

  • Adrian Collins

I enjoy my Wii U,I recently gotten back on the hype train back when Pikmin 3 came out and we got hit with the waves of games.Me and my cousins love playing 5 player games and it’s always fun and memorable.I also have a great time with single player games like Batman Arkham City,Monster Hunter, and Sonic Lost World, but never mind that…..I just question how is the Wii U consider the worst console when we have….the Ouya

By the way I type this from my Wii U Gamepad *sips tea*

  • Clel

CNET can go to hell <33

  • Dj

    That was completely uncalled-for CNET…

  • ScrewAttack

Who the hell are CNET? They sound pretty throwaway to me…

Nothing like jumping on the bandwagon to make themselves a little more famous.

    • Simon Stevens

      CNET

      C -crap
      N – nobody
      E – ever
      T – thought

      • Shota

        Lol that’s a good one !

      • ScrewAttack

They sound like Apple fans :p

        • Simon Stevens

Most videos I’ve seen from them have been all about Apple products, I remember one video a while back, some dude was trying to say how good the new kindle was and this other dude just kept comparing it to the ipad mini, as if EVERYONE can afford or would even want an ipad mini

          • Simon Stevens

Bottom line, don’t go there to advertise your products “my those are a nice pair of shoes but c’mon, really… ??? do they compare to walking round with ipods glued to your feet?”

          • ScrewAttack

I went into the Apple Store in Bullring, Birmingham. The air was heavy with pretentiousness and more money than sense. The Ipad mini, the Ipad….honestly, I see no difference to the Google Nexus my parents love so much. Overhyped, overpriced, overhip garbage.

To think those festering louts my try and invade the gaming console market hurts my heart.

          • Simon Stevens

Like the episode of South park with the smug in the air? lol

      • imthebestonlyonegood

that makes no sense at all. Try better next time

    • RyuNoHadouken

CNET is a division of CNN…theyve been around for years

      • ScrewAttack

        Oh! Okay, thanks.

…..the amount I give a crap about what they have to say now….it’s a negative amount. It’s an imaginary amount.

NB: CNN really isn’t a thing in the UK.

        • RyuNoHadouken

          oh, ok

          • ScrewAttack

I know they’re some big US tabloid people though :p Honestly, I doubt there’s any American media outlet actually worth reading/watching/listening to. You’re welcome for BBC access :p

          • RyuNoHadouken

i do enjoy BBC from time to time

  • Daniel Gonzalez

Very interesting, CNET. I think you’re the last source I’d use to decide what I would want for a gift. I look forward to your next baseless article, which won’t be too long from now. Leave tech news to the professionals.

    • Justagamer

I can agree with you 100 percent on that

    • Magnus Eriksson

The sad thing is that CNET has a point. A good point too. Wii U have failed to prove its relevance in this industry with stupid decisions from launch until today. I just watched one hour from the biggest game expo in Norway. Everything was about PS4, XBOne and indiedevs (Android, PC etc). But WiiU wasnt even mentioned. And the guys behind the show that covered the event have always talked warm about Nintendo. As it is today one year into its lifetime, the product sucks. And it didnt have to be this way if it wasnt for Nintendos arrogance.

During the dry period Nintendo could have paid devs to port for their console, they decided not to do this leaving Wii U totally empty for a very long period. Bad for the gamers and bad for the product, just because N. chooses to hold up some idiotic and worthless principle. The thing is that Nintendo knew this was going to happen. They knew it would dry up, and they didnt have any plan b or was ready to pay to make it keep relevance. If they had paid for some exclusives they might have kept the train rolling, and been in a different situation today.

Instead they chose to do some really strange moves. Dropping E3, Giving out some strange handouts telling the difference between Wii and WiiU, instead of making TV commercials telling about their new product.

I think WiiU got what it deserves. When Nintendo clearly doesnt want to chip in for their own product, why would others?

      • Daniel Gonzalez

Very good points. Can’t bring myself to argue them. The holidays do look promising, so a new year could be a fresh start for Nintendo.

      • Simon Stevens

I can’t argue with this either, Sony pay for 3rd party exclusives (atelier series, Disgaea, tales series) and it works out pretty well for them, that should be considered a given by now, 1st party is all well and good if you have enough resources at your disposal to pump them out consistently one after another, having the most successful ips in the business means very little if there not seen often enough, some form of third party needs to e reached out to and be given incentive to make games for the platform.

The mistake Iwata is making right now is assuming third parties are gonna just show up at the front door like they always have in recent years and that isn’t the case anymore, mostly because there is no momentum for the system outside of the people waiting for the titles 2014 has to bring (most likely delays with gaping pot holes inbetween releases), look at previous consoles, wii (big install base, everyone wanted one) ds (big install base, everyone wanted one), 3ds (big install base, everyone wants one), unless the first party titles bring about that install base next year, Wii U is in trouble.

Right now they should be planning ahead, hijacking games in development, making them exclusive to the Wii U, forking out to make sure they have games there when the first party titles aren’t, there’s nothing shameful in wanting more for your system, even if it comes from the hand of somebody else.

  • Justagamer

One of the best games of the year coming Nov 22

Got a PS4,Wii U,3ds,3dsXL Xbox 360,Ouya,Xbox,Nes,Snes,gamecube,Wii,DS,all the handhelds except Vita..Yuck..i think everything really except like I said vita and Xbox one..Those will be the only two i will have in my house…You?

  • SkullScience

I have a PS4 and XBone on pre-order but have never regretted my Wii U purchase. I look forward to supporting the console over the holidays and for the foreseeable future. A very close minded article/video which obviously can not see the unique character Nintendo brings to the gaming industry. And definitely superior for a younger gamer and party games for the holiday season. By that article/video’s logic you would be disappointed unless you got a mega-beast gaming rig PC and all add-ons. I am eager to receive my XBone and PS4 but am first to admit that their software line-up will probably not pick up until around March/April at the earliest.

    • Simon Stevens

Good man, Wii U allows me to play games I can play with my little boy and have fun doing so, as well as some amazing games I couldn’t do without, ps4 will get my pennys when I see infamous 2nd son, kingdom hearts 3 and elder scrolls online on a shelf ^^

    • Joey

WOW you must be rich :)

    • RyuNoHadouken

i buy all systems, day one, myself…i do most gaming on PC, but consoles are for exclusives.

  • The last Chozo

It seems like every time something with negative words about the Wii U gets it’s way over to this site the people in the comments always seem quite vocal about thier love for the console, and with good reason. You would think that would show the people who make these kinds of lists that the people who bought a Wii U are happy with thier purchase.

    • Jacob D. Taylor

That’s the thing… they act like the system is a dud and no one who has played it likes it at all. I LOVED the WIi. I mean capitalizing LOVED doesn’t really grasp what I’m talking about here. I am SOOOO happy I ditched the 1995 controller with joysticks and buttons and did something FUN. The Wii U however… even surpasses that. I get EVERYTHING I WANT in the Wii U. CoD? Wii U and the definitive version at that. Mario? Got it. Deus Ex? Got it, RPG’s? Got it. There is nothing this system doesn’t handle. I don’t understand why people still say it’s a ‘kiddie’ system. I try to respect opinions, but there comes a point when people reach the ‘fucking stupid’ category. And this is one of the times.

  • JamesJose

if you are a gamer, you get a pc, a Wii U and you decide between the PS4 and the Xbox one, both of them have the same things. I personally have my Wii U, PC and 3DS, cause the console and their games are unique.

    • Simon Stevens

Couldn’t be without my games on steam, not to mention my point and clicks, audience for everything, shame people don’t see that

      • RyuNoHadouken

        point and clicks, FTW!!!!

        • Simon Stevens

          Sam and Max ^^

  • Jason

    It’s funny because if I had to choose between a PS4, XbOne, or a Wii U, I’d get a Wii U.
I’m probably going to get an XbOne too, but my Wii U is great.

    • Joey

me getting PS4 not XboxOne :D

    • RyuNoHadouken

if you’re really being honest, then i’d like a detail;ed explanation as to why you say that because i cant see it

      • Jason

You want a detailed explanation for why I’d choose a Wii U?
Well I understand it is a pretty bold statement. I have actually grown up playing video games though. I dedicated hundreds of hours to FPS games and MMORPGs, neither of which are really on the Wii U. This is why I said as a secondary console I’d choose an Xbox One over a PS4, not because I believe Xbox is better than PlayStation altogether. It is just well-known that Xbox is superior for FPS games (Xbox is even used for MLG tournaments). On the other hand, I have a life now and I don’t play video games constantly anymore. Xbox not only has a lot of seemingly repetitive games, since most of their big titles are shooters, but they all require a lot more involvement. Wii U provides for more entertainment on a casual level, as well as having a “pro” side for the more intense players (I have held three World Records in Mario Kart Wii as well as competed in numerous SSBB tournaments, so don’t bother arguing that Wii is not for hardcore gamers). Its diversity is why I believe the Wii U is an amazing console. Not to mention its affordability (I am 18 and attending college, so money is an issue for me), it has free online (unlike PS4 and XbOne) and it costs under $300. The games are cheaper too and it has so many timeless titles. The system has games running at 1080p native resolution for people that like to see nice looking games on their HDTVs. It is also a good entry console if you want to get your girlfriend or a family member into gaming. Nintendo has made outstanding systems since the NES. The only system I never really played was the GameCube (I couldn’t afford it and was very young when it came out), and I can honestly say I have had some of my best video game experiences playing NES, SNES, and N64 games.

        • RyuNoHadouken

          nice

  • Christopher Acuna

I have not traded any of my Wii U games in. NONE! My PS3 and Xbox…..well…only game disc I have on my PS3 is DCUO because I bought it at launch and it has no trade value lol…my 360…Left 4 Dead 1 and 2. That’s it. I feel that I have wasted so much money on video games this gen.

  • Squid

Nintendo…. Argh… I love you but you got to get more sales.

  • blindtiger

Good thing nobody cares about your opinion CNET…

  • QuizmasterBos

You know, I could let this slide if they’d actually give us a good reason as to WHY you shouldn’t buy it.

So what’s their reason? Nintendo ‘slashes’ the price.
That’s it? How am I supposed to avoid a console that’s very affordable. If I didn’t own a Wii U already and was an average consumer (a.k.a. the parents having to buy the system for their children) and saw this video, I would be more confused than anything.

Wii U has games, especialy games coming. There’s plenty of potential Nintendo hasn’t yet utilized, but once they do, this system will begin selling.

    In short, don’t trust CNET.

    • Justagamer

      Agreed

    • RyuNoHadouken

I bought my Wii U, day one…I was excited about it, but it quickly lost steam…I turned it on 3 days ago for the first time in 4 months just to update the system. Ive sold all my games except Lego City because my son wanted me to keep it. You can not sit there, with a straight face, and tell me that the Wii U isnt a dud so far. releasing gimped and old games isnt gonna sell systems…Nintendo should have came out swinging with Mario 3D World, SSB, Metroid AND a new Zelda at LAUNCH!!!! idk who makes decision in Japan, but they need to be fired and a team of fresh, new thinkers needs to be installed…Ninty has always been my favorite gaming company(im 35), but they need some younger minds over there…they are totally out of touch with the current gaming scene…even a 15 yr old can see that deciding to launch Mario and DK in the same time frame as PS4 and XBOne is the dumbest decision ever…those games should have came out last spring! no one is gonna decide to purchase a wii u and mario 3d for 360$ when they can get a much more powerful PS4 for $40 more. Wii U has to drop to $199 to even stand a chance this holiday season and going forward.

      • TheAquacharger

I would, but then again I have a PC that already puts the PS4 and XB1 to shame, and the Wii U is about the only one with games I can’t get on my PC.

        • RyuNoHadouken

yeah, i have a PC with dual hd 7870s in crossfire…it shits on all consoles, but i get consoles for their exclusives…i have a PS4 and XBOne pre-ordered and paid in full at Gamestop…just waiting to pick em up…i cant wait to turn on my Wii U for the next real Zelda title, Xenoblade and (fingers crossed), a new Final Fantasy game thats a throwback to the first couple of games…hell, i’d love a full, from the ground up, HD remake of FF2!!!!

      • verymetal

Imagine if the 3DS was not selling. I guarantee that more 1st party games would be out for the Wii U. Nintendo has believed that the Wii U would sell on the name alone. That was their biggest mistake. I truly feel that it is not too late for them to turn it around. I mean a must have game will sell systems. Look at Ubisoft, they have utilized the Wii U controller more than Nintendo has. That alone is enough proof to show that Nintendo is putting the Wii U behind the 3DS when it comes to producing quality games. They even have a Nintendo Direct for tomorrow totally based on the 3DS which doesn’t need any help. Its mind boggling to me…WOW.

        • RyuNoHadouken

yeah, theyre just out of touch with the current reality in gaming…they think Mario and rehashed Zelda titles are gonna keep them afloat…i hate to say it, but theyre starting to look like Sega of the 90s….smh

          • only god can judge me

Lol the genesis is still my favorite system of all time I remember seeing sonic run across the screen after the sega logo appeared I was amazed in awe I miss those days of my childhood in the 90s and yea I agree nintendo need to step it up a notch in releasing their heavy hitters and still I have faith in them because they still release some of the best experiences in gaming.

        • Earthworm Jim

I’m pretty sure you meant “mind-bottling”… Yeah. You know when things are so crazy, you get your thoughts trapped, like in a bottle.

          • Guest

            its actually “mind boggling”

          • verymetal

By the way…Earthworm Jim? Seriously? This means you must be familiar with Dave Perry. His predictions always made me laugh because his logic resembled his games. Weak.

          • Guest

Who DOESN’T know about Dave Perry? -Brother to Matthew Perry from 90210(the original, not that new crap!)- Creator of the 7-up Cool Spot game!

          • Earthworm Jim

Who DOESN”T know Dave Perry? -brother of Matthew Perry from 90210(the original, not this new crap!) Everyone should know about the creator of the Cool-est game every, 7-up’s Cool Spot !!!

      • Leo

But what exactly PS4/Xbox One has to offer? I mean, really! Those two consoles have been hyped to the sky and i can’t name a single launch game that could justify a purchase of those consoles AT LAUNCH.

        • RyuNoHadouken

i buy all consoles day one just so i have options…but i agree, neither has a killer app

      • QuizmasterBos

Let’s take this one part at a time:

RyuNoHadouken: I bought my Wii U, day one…I was excited about it, but it quickly lost steam…I turned it on 3 days ago for the first time in 4 months just to update the system.

Me: I also don’t use the system all that much right now, but I’ve been playing New Super Mario Bros U with some friends every so often. That can be pretty fun. The Wii U also doubles nicely as a Wii, the quality is much better through the HDMI cable. So, the Wii U sees some use from me every so often, but the steam should pick up soon enough.

RyuNoHadouken: Ive sold all my games except Lego City because my son wanted me to keep it.

Me: Why sell all your games? I don’t think the games so far were that great, but surely worth keeping at least. I don’t know how old your son is, but maybe he wants to play the other games sometimes too. Of course, it is your decision in the end.

RyuNoHadouken: You can not sit there, with a straight face, and tell me that the Wii U isnt a dud so far. releasing gimped and old games isnt gonna sell systems…Nintendo should have came out swinging with Mario 3D World, SSB, Metroid AND a new Zelda at LAUNCH!!!!

Me: Dud is a strong word to use, but it definitely hasn’t been that succesful, at least according to Nintendo. The amount of games has most definitely been lacking (not even 150 games have been released yet, even GameCube had more by now), but I expect that to change within a year or so.

Sure we wanted a better lineup, but Nintendo couldn’t have waited any longer with the PS4 and Xbone around the corner. I do have to say Nintendo misused its time and hasn’t been able to build much of an audience for the Wii U through limited ads and the like, but at least 4 million systems have already been sold. Nintendo has potential, we just have to wait until they utilize it.

RyuNoHadouken: idk who makes decision in Japan, but they need to be fired and a team of fresh, new thinkers needs to be installed

Me: Really? These are the same people who made the Wii, aka one of the most succesful videogame systems ever made. They also made such hits as Super Mario Galaxy, The Legend Of Zelda: Wind Waker/Twilight Princess, Pikmin 3 and Mario Kart Wii in the last 10 years. I don’t think they need to be fired and switched with a new team if they’ve been making good stuff as little as half a year ago.

The advertising is the problem, not the console, games or the people who work there.

RyuNoHadouken: Ninty has always been my favorite gaming company(im 35), but they need some younger minds over there…they are totally out of touch with the current gaming scene…even a 15 yr old can see that deciding to launch
Mario and DK in the same time frame as PS4 and XBOne is the dumbest decision ever…those games should have came out last spring!

Me: Releasing Mario and Donkey Kong in that timeframe is not actually that stupid. Ever looked up the salesrecords for Super Mario Galaxy and Donkey Kong Country Returns? Quite good, if I say so myself. Mario is a well-known franchise, people aren’t going to pass it up. In fact, I highly suspect Super Mario 3D Worlds to be the best selling title released in these last two months of 2013.

Good things come to those who wait, or like Miyamoto once said: “A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is bad forever”. Nintendo showed time and time again that they don’t need to actively compete with Sony or Microsoft to make money, I don’t think this time will be any different.

RyuNoHadouken: no one is gonna decide to purchase a wii u and mario 3d for 360$ when they can get a much more powerful PS4 for $40 more. Wii U has to drop to $199 to even stand a chance this holiday season and going forward.

Me: You’re forgetting that the PS4 is 400 dollars with no games. Those will cost you another 60/70 dollars. Nintendo has a ton of bundles for 300 dollars. Of course, that’s another 60 (or less if you know where to look) if you want Super Mario 3D Worlds too, but then you have two games. So, the PS4 is still quite a bit more expensive, but not as much as the Xbone.

With Wii U being the cheapest and having some nice bundles out and new games on the horizon, I think Nintendo is going to be okay. I think everything will be different by next year when we can assess the whole new generation of consoles better. Don’t judge too quick!

        • RyuNoHadouken

my son is 10, but yeah, nicely written

      • Quicksilver88

Quizmastbos already gave you an extended response so I don’t want to gang up so I will say this..in the last few months since you left your WiiU to gather dust this is what has come out: Pikman3, Rayman, W101, Splinter Cell BL, Zelda WW, Disney Infinity, Skylanders SF, Deus EX, WiiU Party, AC4, Batman AO, WiiFit U, COD Ghosts, Batman AO, Wii Ports Club, Just Dance14, and in about 10 days Mario3D world. Thats a lot of content and something for everyone. On top of that a lot of good eShop Indies have come out like giana sisters, duck tales and other fun stuff. Add to that most of the first gen games like cod bops2, ac3, me3, nfsmw, batman AC can all be had for $20 and there is a lot of content for WiiU now. I am an all systems gamer but honestly ps4/xb1 are getting very little exclusive content at launch and will have pretty much nothing for your 10 yr old.

        • Guest

my son wants AC4, DR3 and Ghosts for XBOne…we just beat Batman AO on PC last week and starting XCOM tomorrow…We’re getting Killzone, 2K14 and Knack with targets B2GO deal this week. I asked him if he wanted Mario 3D World and he said “maybe.”

        • RyuNoHadouken

my son wants AC4, DR3 and Ghosts for XBOne…we just beat Batman AO and LEGO Marvel on PC last week and starting XCOM tomorrow…We’re getting Killzone, 2K14 and Knack with targets B2GO deal this week. I asked him if he wanted Mario 3D World and he said “maybe.” Wii U just doesnt have any must buys and its been out for a year…call my cynical, but Nintendo needs to drop SSB, Xenoblade, FF, Mario Kart and surprise us with Metroid like right now!

          • Quicksilver88

Hey you son is a lucky 10 yr old to have access to all 3 new systems…lol. Not sure all those games are age appropriate for a 10yr old but I leave that to you….just don’t tell me he is playing GTA5 as that game uses the F and N word more than a gansta movie would dare to. I was not intending to pickup a ps4 until next year but got a special Meijer 15% off coupon and just can’t resist getting one for $340. I told the wife to just wrap it and put it under the tree for me for xmas. The only launch game that interests me is Knack but very interested to see the return of the Thief series and always been a Metal Gear fan so should be sometings of interest for me soon enough. I do think Mario World is shaping up nicely and for local multiplayer it will be a real hoot.

          • RyuNoHadouken

no GTA in my house…not that im against it, but ive never been a fan of the series and i wouldnt let him play anyway…thats an awesome coupon deal you got!!! but yeah, if it was up to me, i wouldnt buy an XBOne, but thats what he wanted for Christmas…im fine with PS4/WiiU/PC…i was thinking Knack and Mario would be cool so my son and I can play some co-op together…i try to get games we can both enjoy at the same time. Im sure ill wind up getting Mario for the simple fact that Ive beaten every mario game ever…cant stop now…lol

          • Quicksilver88

Yeah I have owned both XB and X360 but not sure if I will get XB1 any time soon. They will both get all the major 3rd parties and I just like $ony’s exclusives and first party stuff a lot more than M$. M$ always ‘buys’ a lot of year onle exclusives but then they fall off and all you get is Halo, Gears, and Forza…non of which I particularly care for. Meanwhile $ony has as many dev teams and IPs as Nintendo and honestly more compelling to in recent years. Drake, Last of Us, Heavy Rain all awesome IMO. If M$ got an exclusive ona new KOTOR game or Jade Empire then I would have to buy their system as those are the games that made my day on original xbox. Its nice to see you game with your son…O have no kids but the wife has a huge family and I have introduced many of the youngsters to gaming…some of them actually call me Grandpa Mario….lol.

  • starwars360

Hahahaha in 2014. CNET will saying it is better system because lots more and more games already on system, sales will be much better and 2014 got huge games coming for Wii U.

For now CNET is crying. Who cares and CNET is shitty site. Never touch it. Hahahaha

Wii U is superb at moment. Wii U is good when launched until The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, Super Mario 3D World, Pikmin 3, Deus Ex: Human Revolution – Director’s Cut and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag to made Wii U superb system and with load updates and features already input inside of Wii U system.

3 stars when launched but now 5 stars!!! :D Well done to Nintendo for bring so much better in system with updates and features as well Miiverse communication is huge jump forward. Wii U’s continue better sales!!! :)

2014 will be much MASTER SUPERB for this system!! :D

Nintendo is trying hard and harder. I understood Nintendo having hard time with Wii U but now much better. Nintendo had plenty money business from 3DS, Wii U and Wii that got continue boost sales. :)

  • BGhp

I can’t blame them. I have a Wii U and I don’t hate it but right now I am not going to lie but its not the best console to get at this moment.

    • Decker Shado

True… the best right now is probably the Xbox 360.

PS4 and Xbox One have a loooooong way to go before they become worthwhile purchases.

  • Jacob D. Taylor

His claim was completely unsubstantiated. I mean… he did not mention ANYTHING at all. Just ‘Trust me’. Dude F that. I don’t who the hell you are and you’re ripping an incredible system without even a claim. At least retard sony/microsuck fanboys are wrong. He’s just… devoid of anything.

  • John Andalora

    Harsh.
I don’t think that this has been the best console Nintendo has had, but top 5 worst things to buy? Dang.
I’d like to think I spent my money on worse electronics.

  • darkcreap

CNET, the same CNET that published this video?

    I think this says everything.

    • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

That video is great and shows their true biased fanboyism.

The dual sticks on the Vita are cramped but we are not going to complain about them

The 3DS has Netflix but are you going to watch on such a small screen. Oh the PS Vita has Netflix and a music player making it a great entertainment device too.

The knock down the 3DS because it has a similar design to the DS/DSi saying it is a drawback but praising how there is little to no learning curve. Uh yeah… that is why Nintendo kept the design similar you ass.

      Such stupiditity

NOTE: Not saying the Vita is a bad system but it just seems things Nintendo gets downvoted on the Vita gets praised on for similar features.

      • C4

Vita Sticks are fine for me (no issues in games like Killzone or Uncharted) but I actually prefer the clamshell design of Nintendos portables since the GBA SP, it looks better and it’s functional (no dust) :P

      • darkcreap

Sorry, maybe it is because English is not my first language, but I have looked up “cramped” in the dictionary and it says something like “with too little space”. I guess you mean that the joysticks are placed too near, maybe?

Do not know for sure because I just held a Vita for a few seconds a some months ago, so I am not sure. Nevertheless, it would be so obvious a mistake for Sony that they wouldn’t make it, would they?

Vita is indeed a great system, but the problem is that I think they did some things wrong:

-Why so much power? It is good that it is powerful, but it made it be too expensive.
-Why 3G? People already have smartphones. I think there was no need for that functionality. Yes, it is useful, but smartphones were already very popular back then. You cannot compete with them. It is good as a secondary function, but I don’t imagine Vita replacing my phone any time soon.
-Why that obsession with giving users a home console-like experience? Different systems should give different experiences. There is value in having the same game in two systems, especially if you can port your savegame from one system to the other (I do not know if Vita supports that), but financially speaking, it is not a very good thing for the game makers if users do not pay for the two versions independently. Nevertheless, consumer wise it is a very good thing. Now that I remember, Steam play allows you to have a game in several Operating Systems for the same price.

The problem is not that it hasn’t interesting features. It has got a lot of interesting ones, including that you can play your Vita on your TV (that’s amazing) or that you can use it as controller for PS3/PS4 in a similar fashion as the WiiU gamepad. The problem is that they focused so much in technology that they have made an incredibly expensive system, while it is clear that the market demands a more simple, cheaper system.

I remember the Sega Gamegear. Technology-wise it was way better than the Gameboy. I played both system’s at my cousin’s house and it was clear that the Gamegear was better. I mean, it had a real colour screen, which the gameboy didn’t have. The first system from Nintendo with a decent colour screen was the gameboy color (correct me if I am mistaken) in 1998. Gamegear did it in 1991. Gamegear lost to the Gameboy. My two cents: too expensive. Great system, but it was so advanced that it was ahead of its time. I think the same could be happening to Vita. It is not bad. It is simply too advanced for its time, making it too expensive.

EDIT: Sorry for the text wall, man :D.

        • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

Yes cramped as in spaced too close together in comparison with the screen and the buttons.

I do not have a Vita so I will try and keep my judgement of it minimal but I agree that the handheld is trying to do a little too much. That keeps the cost high. I rather like the simplicity of the 3DS. Maybe not the best graphics but it does well. Comfortable to hold and play for all sized hands and has great games

      • Joey

I didn’t like the Vita very awkward controls as my nephew and niece have one but i love the 3DS XL has better games and alot of fun to play on it compared to vita, that’s just me my own personal thing.

  • AlexWilgus

These sorts of things are such a self-fulfilling prophecy. C-Net says nobody wants something for Christmas and so people will think that’s so. It’s so obvious nobody’s taken the time to actually play it.

  • jhell

the wii u will be successfully

  • andrewjcole

I hated CNET before. Now? I despise CNET.

  • HotInEER

That’s funny because Cnet is on my Top 5 worst tech sites.

    • Rinslowe

It is now lol… Credibility lost.

  • LevenThumps

Honestly, I wouldn’t mind this as much if he at least backed up why the WiiU is a bad system (people are entitled to their own opinion after all), but all he says is nobody wants the WiiU, even though he also says “it will be on firesale by the time the holidays roll around.” Seems pretty hypocritical to me.

  • Robert

For the people who say it doesn’t matter and that they don’t care….YOU SHOULD!!!
You may not care but parents who look at gift giving ideas will take this into consideration. Just because you got your wiiu with a bunch of games doesn’t make this good one bit. The fact that nintendos consoles have pretty much always been on some kind of list of hot items or hot new tech and now it isn’t doesn’t bode well for nintendo. Before you think I’m anti anything….I’m a huge nintendo follower and will buy just about anything they bring out…but no body can ignore the fact that nintendo needs to change things around immediately….they have to cater to the gamers that are more than mario fans and zelda fans and party game fans…..nintendo needs to step out of their comfort zone and make a new prime, new geist, a new fatal frame would be freaking ridiculous with the game pad.

Don’t post a list of upcoming games please as I’m well aware of bayonetta 2, X, and all the rest. i think we as gamers need to speak up. Nintendo has always been unique and that’s respectable, but perhaps they need to go head to head with the competition with the next console they release

  • HJ 612

CNET should wait till the more awesome games come on the Wii U and say something.

  • http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008SRISGU#reader_B008SRISGU Adam Howell

When big sites start trolling you know their desperate.

Will say that, with the insanely underrated The Wonderful 101 and Windwaker HD, I’m really enjoying my Wii U right now. Few games of this quality next year and I’ll be happy.

The crazy thing is, with all the complaints about a lack of games, The Wonderful 101 only got around 70,000 sales globally! Most Wii U gamers haven’t even played it!

  • Michael Ocampo

I have just one question for the people at CNET.
Have they even tried it yet?

    [OFF TOPIC]
Do a lot of people still play online in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (for Wii U) and what game would you recommend for online multiplayer on Wii U? (I need to know what to ask for this Christmas ^-^ )

    • Rick van der Linde

What you want to ask for Christmas is Super Mario 3D World, that game looks amazing and has multiplayer.

      Edit:
Ok I’m not awake yet, you asked for online multiplayer, sorry.

  • Guest

1500% sales increase in japan this November, yet according to Cnet the Wii u is slipping? By the way… With heavy hitters like Donkey Kong: tropical freeze, Super Mario 3d world and one can say the most anticipated line up of games in 2014, i don’t feel current or potential Wii u gamers should have any fears or concerns.

We all know Nintendo had a slow start with the launch of Wii u but 2014 will show the brilliance of Nintendo and it’s game designers once it’s Magnificent exclusives are released.

One can never underestimate a company like Nintendo to rise up and dominate the gaming market.

    • darkcreap

1500% is a great percentage, but you have to take into account not only that, but also the previous absolute numbers. 1500% is not that important if, for instance, they sold 1 console the previous week.

I have been tracking WiiU numbers for the last three weeks and it is selling between 60K-80K consoles worldwide. While that is much better than what it was in the last months, it is still not very much, especially compared to Xbox 360 and PS3. Not to mention 3DS. That handheld sells like hotcakes.

I hope we will see more significant numbers after SM3DW launches and the steady stream of games in 2014 arrives. Competition is going to be harsh. And honestly, I wouldn’t give CNET too much credibility. Just see the video I linked in a previous comment. They said the Vita would bash the 3DS. Sales tell a different story.

  • Carlos Coronado

so the vita is number one

  • Madmagican

Too bad the guy didn’t give a reason for why the Wii U is a ‘dud’
If he had I would’ve cross-examined the shit out of his statements

    • rp17

His one point was that there was a price cut… And seriously how is that a bad thing!!!

  • Kevin Wickham

wow…… thats just messed up!!!!!!!!!!!!! the announcer of the video should go kill himself

  • Elitepwnsface

You know this guy wants a X-BONE

  • fireheartis1

This guy doesn’t know what the heck he is talking about. I know many people who have been waiting for Mario 3D Land just to buy the Wii U. Every comment I see on YouTube aside from the Nintendo hater is I’m getting a Wii U when this game comes out. This guy is just an idiot who only read a few post and said, “well that’s it everyone wants PS4 and Xbox One not the Wii U.” He probably even read PS4 and Xbox only forums.

  • Andreas Sunde

“Trust me on this one.” Why? You haven’t given any reason whatsoever to do so.

  • tlopuse

Wii U in the house since released date 11/19/12, no complaints, I love it! !!!! I can take it with anywhere and play without tv. PlayStation fanboys with your system I feel handicap, sorry :-(

  • SleepySkullhead

I hate how there is no real reason to not buy it. He just fed the “reason” of people wanting the other two.

    • Nate

You mean you aren’t just taking his word for it?

      • SleepySkullhead

The sad thing is that people will take his word for it. I have a deluxe Wii U and try to convince all my friends to get one, and this guy goes and says otherwise without any ground for reason.

  • Nate

WOW! That was a poorly done video. No reasons given for not liking the Wii U. Every piece of tech in that video is extremely well-made and works just fine (I see his point on the Chromebook though).

  • Robert Berwick

CNET trollism at work. No matter how many times they say it or how few systems sell, I am only concerned about feeding the ONE Wii U that “I” own and I’m proud to say I want my “Mario” games, my “DKC” games and everything else Nintendo is famous for.

  • HungryMetroid

Sony and/or Microsoft probably paid them to put the Wii U on the list.

    • Daniel Gonzalez

Conspiracy theories get us nowhere. I doubt it to be honest, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility either. Just unlikely.

      • Rinslowe

Oh wait wait, no no no my friend it’s not a conspiracy because it’s quite common to see these sorts of articles on the web…

        Lol I’m just joking around
        :)

Now exercising some common sense and a layer of benefit of the doubt to the comment.
        :P

(BTW: I never bother in down-voting peeps that aren’t trolls, so that wasn’t me lol)

      • HungryMetroid

I can respect that. I’m not a big conspiracy theorist, but I find it suspicious that when the PS4 and Xbox One are right around the corner, the Wii U is deemed as a horrible product. If it’s so bad why wasn’t it on the list last year when it had less to offer?

  • MewThree28

You know what? How about FUCK THIS GUY! I don’t listen to blinded FPS boys who haven’t devoted any time or interest into a system they’ve never tried. And how could he assume EVERYONE wants a PS4 or an Xbone? What about the kids who end up getting it because of him and all they play are FPS games? Way to go CNET, Now kids are going to be indulged by more violence.

    Aside from that,
I am planning on getting the Skylanders Swap force bundle just because it is white.
I wish there was one that came with NsmbU and a white console stand or something. I will probably sell skylanders as I’ve never been into it. Anyone else have a different idea? should I wait for a new White model to come out or what?

  • Funkee Dynamite

    dick move cnet

  • Prince Marth IV

    The lies!

  • The Monado

Cnet is full of shit. Funny how this dude said there are only 2 consoles people want this holiday? LOL really but cnet said themselves you should wait to buy the next gen consoles. so much Bias though

  • Rinslowe

When I saw this last night on n4g, I decided CNET no longer gets my vote of confidence. Where is all this anti Wii U garbage coming from?

When the Wii U is done right, it’s fantastic…
(Most recently Deus Ex HR DC springs to mind; gamepad support is top notch stuff, great visuals) +

Pikmin, W101, AC3 (having everything mapped to the gamepad and a full clear screen to play on made my day with that title despite the lesser than PC visuals…), Nintendo Land (with friends and family) +

    Miiverse:
(a breath of fresh air in how to connect players through relevant content, mostly free of trolls and delinquents) +

    Web Browsing:
(gamepad makes it a breeze compared to the other consoles clunky add on pieces. I know I’m also using those ones and it’s pretty surprisingly fast too in comparison) +

    Price Point:
(It’s priced quite competitively now compared to other next gen consoles releasing soon and has a pretty decent line up of games also in comparison that are relevant; AC4, Arkham Origins, Ghosts, DE-HR DC and of course exclusives Pikmin 3, WW HD, W101, SM3DW… And not to mention those bundles) +

    Off TV Play:
    (nuff said) +

    PC:
(Anyone who games on PC, myself included may likely see more value in Wii U over and above next gen consoles UNTIL those systems are even more competitively priced and have enough must have exclusives to warrant early adoption. Otherwise that next gen experience from the titles I have seen so far have left much to be desired, visually)

Seems the only real argument “that can be” made is due to low install base. Rightfully so, it’s hard to debate that one but the positives far outweigh the negatives IMO…

CNET, I call MEH on your article of non-sense. Lol.

  • farva24

I want to beat that guy up so bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Right when he said that there’s only 2 consoles people want this christmas, and wii u isnt one of them, I cried for a couple hours.

    • Simon Stevens

      Me too, hold me :(

  • Logic

When Zelda Wii U comes out, CNET will do a 180 turn around and start praising how good the Wii U is.

    • Simon Stevens

The Wii U is great he said, with a 45 to his head

    • verymetal

That will be in 2015, great time to be a Wii U owner.

  • SomeFluffer64

    CNET has fanboys! uh oh!

  • Angelo G

It seems that there was a seed planted and ever since then everyone has the same bad opinion of the wii u. In my opinion you must own something and use it to know how good or bad it is. I love this system and I am also a fan of xbox and ps and own all systems.

  • Krzysztof

Who cares. Why people can’t just enjoy games anymore ? And why so many people are attached more to the label than to gaming experience. If Sony and MS can provide me a system on which I’ll be able to play SMB, MK, SB and Zelda, I’ll buy one. But at the moment there’s only one console which can achieve this.

  • Shadao

I thought the Xbox One is one of the tech gifts not to buy.

    • Simon Stevens

That console scares me, the whole spying through kinnect thing, the thought of it growing legs and following me up the stairs, broadcasting me soaping up my buttocks to the whole wide word, a console shouldn’t be like that >.<

      • darkcreap

If it has legs, maybe it could have arms too. If you hack it, you could change the factory firmware to make it make breakfast for you. You just have a negative attitude, my friend :D ;)

        • Simon Stevens

I could attach an artificial penis and it could have sex with my future girlfriend so I don’t have to ^^

  • John Sullivan

CNET are just being jerk to the Wii U, just like EA! The Wii U is a great system compared to the PS4 and Xbox One!

  • nexxus6

Is Cnet relevant anymore? Honestly, I don’t need some d-bag to tell me what I should and should not buy.

  • MississaugaMaverick

as long as nintendo keeps the games coming the wii u has nothing to worry about. there are many gamers out there that will buy a wii u, if nintendo plays its cards right.

  • Jack Campbell

Let me guess . . . . the reviewer is single, has no children, wakes up in his boxers at noon, plays first person shooters exclusively, and then trolls any game forum that shows joy and blasts it with bile.

  • HypocritesRROD

CNET revealed their true intentions. CNET is the worst microsoft TOOL. Especially that loser in the video.

    • Zorlac79

It is just the editor of that article showing his fanboyism too.
But people want to come here and slam us for being a fanboy, but run back to cnet to suck on his teet….
      Ironic.

      • HypocritesRROD

When they bash Nintendo and then fans defend, all of sudden we are fanboys. They just wanna keep on bashing Nintendo and expect fans to just take and shut up.

I’ve never visited CNET’s website, AT ALL. I’ve seen links to their site when i search for some apps. But that’s it. Never openned their site nor have i read any of their contents.

        Where’s the irony?

  • Quicksilver88

That is just harsh and so myopic of them. WiiU has most pf the big hiiting multiplats this xmas and has more exclusives than ps4/xb1 will have any time soon. Plus there is really almost nothinhg for kids on the Hd twins this xmas. I like all systems and get a little irked but yhe Ninendo kiddie tag but really the other two are just ingoring evryone below teenage and up and family gaming as well. WiiU is a good all alround system but is the only game in town for family play with games like Nintendoland, Wii Sports Club, Wii Party U, 4 player Mario World. Nintendo has been a niche console since N64 mostly serving Nintendo fans and family gaming…but that is a huge niche and one that M$ and $ony have totally disregarded. Nintendo just needs a little more balance on WiiU with titles like X, Bayonetta 2, a new Metriod, Fzero, SSB, Epic Zelda, FExSMT and keep some high profile japanese and western ports and in the end the system will be great for everyone. They get the blend right on 3ds being able to be a handheld for everyone I believe they can do it on WiIU. They should try to strike a deal with Sega to get some Altus JRPGs brought to the west and see if they can get Namco to make a new Batebn Katos which could be excellent with card play on the gamepad.

    • linxz

blah blah blah……… the point of the matter is much simpler……… IT DOESN’T SELL.

      • Quicksilver88

Well the truth is any game system without great games doesn’t sell (allow me to show you exhibit A the Vita….which I also own). The library has already improved significantly since mid year and will continue to do so…..to deny that Nintendo won’t continue to churn out appealing exclusives is to deny past history. Sales have already improved considerably (not saying much yet) but if Nintendo can keep pushing even 300-500K units a month world wide then the system will do fine. Everyone in the industry is saying the new generation is not going to eclipse this last one in sales so I wouldn’t expect PS4/XB1 to be selling 70mil+ units either. They will have their hot holidays and then hit a drought thru most of 2014 just like WiiU did in 2013. Really this is nothing new as I have bought just about every system at launch since forever, but usually advise most people to wait about 18 months until their are enough good titles to warrant a purchase.

  • Justin Bradfield

I want to love the WiiU but I feel burned from the Wii. Nintendo keeps using last generations hardware to compete with consoles that kick its but in specs. So once the PS3 and Xbox 360 are gone 3rd party developers will have to make games specifically for a lower powered console. Games like ZombieU I feel show just how hard this system is hurting. It had some of the most buzz upon the launch of the WiiU and yet Ubisoft didn’t make any money. I am not saying nintendo needs to be the most powerful but they have got to start closing the specs gap a little bit. Nintendo isn’t prolific enough with their own titles to support an entire ecosystem. If you want to look at a system that is struggling just like the WiiU take a look at the PS Vita. Its a great piece of hardware that has failed to reach a critical mass. People need the WiiU to be more than the mario/zelda box. Please Nintendo next console do not stay so far behind on specs.

  • Ruff

    I’ve had…
    Batman Arkham City: Armored Edition
    COD: Black Ops2
    COD: Ghosts
    Lego City Undercover
Need For Speed Most Wanted U
    New Super Mario Brothers U
    Nintendoland
    Pikmin 3
    Tank, Tank, Tank
    ZombiU

I’d call that a pretty good year.
    I’m still wanting…
    Batman Arkham Origins
    Sonic Lost World
    Super Mario 3D World
    Zelda: Wind Waker HD

Not to mention the games to come next year….Mario Kart 8 looks amazing!!

  • Joey

All i can say CNET knows nothing about the Wii U. But i love my Wii U. Got lots of games to play and to finished them.

  • Adam Porter

i don’t get what everyone here is surprised about, at the end of the day he’s right, just look at sales for evidence of that

  • goldenfirered136

And We will wait till next year, then we will see the tears on his face, that the PS4 and Xbone that he thinks everyone wants isn’t what everyone wants

  • Tom Greene

Too bad…Nintendo fucked up in so many ways with the Wii U…1 Horrible name…2..lack of true next gen power and memory. ..3…lack of quality games. ….what do you expect…I applaud CNET

  • Tom Greene

I hope Nintendo fails…go back to the drawing board and come out with true next gen Hd sytem…sucky ass PiiU

  • Louie
    • Simon Stevens

Best thing I’ve seen all day :D

  • Nintengoth

I Love My Wii U!!! :P Super Mario World Cant Wait!!!

  • Simon Stevens

Sony president Yoshida talks about his two Wii U’s ^^

  • strumstrum

sometimes I feel people are out and out wanting Wii U to fail, its annoying what a silly comment by CNET, I really enjoy my Wii U and with the imminent release of some important games I am going to enjoy it some more…

Nintendo do seem to have forgotten about advertising tho, thats how it seems to me in the UK

  • Kaihaku

Has the reviewer touched a Wii U in the last six months? I was an early adopter so I know that many of the complaints leveled against it were founded – the operating system was clunky, many core features were incomplete, there were few compelling exclusives, and there was a lengthy software drought. But since this summer Nintendo has slowly resolved all of those issues one step at a time. The Wii U is finally up to speed and I think, if Nintendo bothers to market it compellingly, that it stands to be a surprise hit this Holiday season. I think that it’s a mistake to underestimate the selling power of Mario 3D World, Wii U Fit, and Wii Sports Club.

  • TrueWiiMaster

Sigh… CNET… They also thought the Xbox One was the best console to buy this Christmas. These guys aren’t gamers. They’re as casual as casuals come. I hate the fact that such ignorant “experts” have influence over so many people.

  • devmiles

commercialwise you can already say or foresee the wii-u is not a succes. this is due to nintendo’s own policy and strategy. we know and it was said, the wii-u should have been the wii and a true competitor for the ps3 and xbox360. while we approach the new era of gaming nintendo is the one leaving itself behind instead of being technologywise ready for what is to come. also the online aspects of the wii-u are very narrowminded and not attached to any social media or whatsoever. nintendo chooses to be very closed in that sense. as for the nintendo fans there are some nice games to come but that would only be a handful. i feel the machine will end up like the gamecube, handful of epicness but for the big stack of ultimate games you have a ps4 next to the tv that has everything a wii-u hasn’t. i mean, how common is it to play a blue ray on a console.. nintendo left so much out that it is merely a gaming console to play some handful released games on, not to mention the wack VC stuff.
i can’t believe what’s happening here and seriously hope nintendo will get it’s kick in the butt because we get sick of nintendoland and wii-party shit. hello, we are gamers and ready to spend our money on what rocks our mind. the idea of the wii-u is good but it misses so much…

    • Simon Stevens

I can agree with this to some extent, I’m not much of a social media guy but it would of been nice and made sense to see some tiles on the homescreen for social media, facebook on the browser is sub par, no skype sucks, these are just some things that could ve better, I can’t imagine how well the Wii U would sell if it had a damn good facebook app with ability to play facebook games on the gamepad and video chat through it, personally I know why I love the gamepad and the features it brings but I would not know how to market it short of off tv play.

  • Gregg

Please, this is such utter crap it’s ridiculous. On FIRESALE by the end of the year, AKA, the end of December, you know, like, right when everyone is opening up there shiny new WiiU, and Nintendos Heaviest hitters since launch, that came out this fall. Somebody isn’t educated on there topic…

  • mrpikmin3

I thout I liked cnet well guss what not any more

  • Falcoxcalibur

Cnet can suck my feathery balls. This year, I’m more interested on getting Wii U games than PS4 ones.

  • Matthew Sizemore

I’ve had my Wii U since launch as well as own all the other consoles and let me just say I love my Wii U. My PS4 will arrive anyday now but I’m much more excited for Mario 3D world than every other game combined for PS4 and Xbox One. Also Mario Kart 8 and new Smash bros is coming in a few months just to name a few and I predict the Wii U will be the best selling console this generation when all is said and done. CNET lost some of my respect on this because it’s clearly a load of BS just to get more hits on their site.

  • Landesca

    Idiots!!!!

  • Is_Mort

sucky system for 5-12 year olds.

  • https://soundcloud.com/rauschenmaschine Kristian Kouvo

    CNET should go out more.

    • Justagamer

      Agreed

  • Ryumoau

Sounds about right to me. No reason to spend $300 on this, with ps4 only $100 more and infinitely more compelling.

    • Justagamer

If you like PS4 than awesome But most will get the better deal and 400 and 500 is still too much for a gaming console

  • Devon Day

I just cannot wait until CNET eats their words come 2014. Bayonetta 2, Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros. Wii U, Mario Kart 8, Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze, Mario & Sonic at the Sochi Olympics, and a Wii U Zelda mention at E3. All this “Nintendoom” propaganda needs to stop. Like Iwata-san said regarding the days of the SNES and Genesis days, “People who claimed Nintendo in trouble is just trying to make noise.” Heck, even if the Wii U gets discontinued (That’s A BIG “IF”), 3DS will have more golden years ahead, and I personally think the 3DS will be the best-selling console of all time, which for me, ultimately would have been a success story, as people claimed that a failure and look at it now: 2013’s BEST CONSOLE. PERIOD. I don’t know about many of you, but what I do know is that Wii U isn’t going anywhere any time soon. For those “professional video game websites” (*cough, *cough, IGN) who would like to prove me wrong, go ahead, I dare you. Wait, YOU CAN’T. 2014 is going to be the year that Wii U bounces back. It will be tough, but when Smash Bros. and a Mario Kart game in the same year, forget about it. 2014 is Nintendo’s year. Just watch people, just watch these websites eat their words.

  • RK

Eh, I don’t care. CNET and IGN sucks now.
