Report: Wii U sales reach 4.3 million

Wii U salesWii U sales have been up and down and all over the place since the console launched a year ago. After a slow start (and very slow Summer), Wii U sales are picking up worldwide thanks to new software from Nintendo.

Last week we reported that Wii U sold 230,000 units in North America in November, which, atop of Nintendo’s last official sales numbers and sales from Europe, the tally reaches 4.3 million Wii U consoles sold to date.

Nintendo expects sales to reach 9 million in the current fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2014. That means Nintendo has to sell 2 million Wii U consoles per month from now on — something that is highly unlikely to happen.

We don’t know how Nintendo intends to sell that many consoles when sales numbers obviously do not show that kind of momentum. However, sales have been picking up month to month for the last 5 months, which is great news.

The Wii U sold almost 50,000 units in Japan alone last week, thanks to Super Mario 3D World.

While it’s highly unlikely that Nintendo will meet their sales target, they can certainly keep the Wii U sales momentum by doing one thing: releasing great games.

Wii U sales have really picked up over the last 3 months, thanks to games such as Pikmin 3, Zelda Wind Waker HD, and Super Mario 3D Land.

I guess this is actually kinda good for a year in some ways. If it manages 6 years and if all the good games come out, it should get a sold 30-35 million

    • DragonSilths

      It will reach 60 million.

(Just like to point out that, that made my day!)

      • gamesplayswill

Not really at this rate, as much as I’d like to agree. But the sales are not the main thing as someone would usually point out

        • DragonSilths

No. My special deity eyes afford me the ability to see the future. 1 day people will wake up and be like oh…Wii U whats this? What its been out for 3 years now? Well why didn’t I hear about it. BUY. That’s what the future holds. Don’t ask for any other things. I cant break reality.

          • gamesplayswill

Your special deity be a lie! O)-(0

          • DragonSilths

No. I cannot see how this will come true, but If I have to buy 1,000 Wii U’s myself over the next 7 years to help out, I shall.

          • gamesplayswill

60 million is a stretch. And frankly it makes you sound very biased. 35 million sales really isn’t that bad. Didn’t the N64 sell 30 million? If that is the case, I would be contempt. It isn’t amazing but who cares? I just want to play 3DWorld and Pikmin 3 happily.

          • DragonSilths

I am a bit biased indeed.

      • Jay-Z

        20 million or GC numbers.

      • Justagamer

Nah 100 million like before with the wii

        • SomeFluffer64

Thanks. Let’s hope for Starfox on Wii U then, shall we?

          • William Cole

We can only hope. I think Nintendo really has a shot at this generation if they try to produce a Wii U instalment of many major series that they’ve had. You know, Paper Mario, Star Fox, Yoshi, Metroid, Kirby, the ones that often get left out of epic new experiences. Starfox on Wii U is just too obvious and I hope Nintendo sees that.

    • Donaald

    • Nintedward

I think this is just a rough estimate. I’m not blowing Nintendo’s horn, But I think the Wiiu is more like 5M worldwide right now. They were like 3.9M 3 months ago….. Including the healthy Japanese and USA sales and some from the EU I think 5M is more acurate.

      5.5-6.5M by end of 2013 ;)

      • Simon Stevens

if it makes it to 7, iwata should be happy with that, all things considering, I hope it does

      • Rinslowe

I’m at the high 4m mark myself or 4.8/4.9m… Worldwide. But yeah exactly…

For me I’m guessing 6.5 by March end or even 7m. But 9? I’ll wait and see…

    • Rinslowe

True, but the no’s are incorrect and low. Lets not entertain a report that cannot be referenced for scrutiny.

  • CEObrainz

As always the numbers will never be terribly accurate, however with the “bigger” games still not released yet for the console, there is a chance for the Wii U to reach those magical Nintendo numbers by this time next year easily with a bit of marketing done right.

  • Simon Stevens

VGchartz states 4.5 million sold…. 4.5 for a year is looking very Gamecube numberish to me, but the market changes all the time, people are forever wanting new and unique experiences, it’s upto Nintendo to go out and give people that, personally, I think that when the Wii U has 10 must have games, it’ll be a knockout like the 3ds, I would say, in 2015, it’ll be one or two shy of that top 10 must haves, if it can get to 40-50 million sold lifetime, it’ll do alright, it’s just a matter of wait and see what happens for us.

    • AAAkabob

      VGcharts is garbage

      • Simon Stevens

Still says more than this though, but yeah I don’t rate it, but I would sooner hear 4.5 million to 4.3 million lol

      • Jay-Z

Exactly. I don’t know why people are using that site as their source. To think, people would rather use VGchartz as their source and neglect the reports. lol

      • Rinslowe

Totally agree. But this is one time where those figures make a lot of sense. We all know the Japanese and US figures for last month. That alone puts the total at + 4.4m – not considering Oceania and European Markets….
Still I would never quote VGchartz as a source… They would have fluke’d that no’ in any case, even though it’s right… And likely a little low tbh.

  • Diana of Themyscira

I’ve had every Nintendo console (and handheld) since Nintendo 64 and I was never interested in the Wii U for some reason. It was probably because of the weak games at the time and really bad marketing, but with 2014 supposedly being a good year for Wii U games.. I might just have to get one.

  • tom

Okay all Wii U owners i know how we can get those console sales numbers up. Everyone go out and buy a second Wii U and give it to a friend or family member! That would bring the numbers up to 8.6 mil before christmas!!!

    • Simon Stevens

      spread the word!, wait…. i already have3 wii u’s, haven’t i helped enough?

    • JB

People might think that suggestion is pretty absurd, but I did recently buy four Wii U’s for the youth program I volunteer for. I also got one for my home and office! So I’m doing my part lol

      • Nintedward

That’s pretty legendary! I’ve been doing some part time work in a Game store called Games Dojo which is owned by my close family friends!

In doing so, I’ve told about 50 people why the Wiiu is the best choice this holiday, and have been responsible for about 15 Wiiu console sales and many more games.

I say 50, but it’s probably a lot more than that ;) , and If people say they want either a PS4 or Xbox one I direct them towards the PS4. But a lot of families and more open minded gamers have been directed towards the Wiiu by me :D

The Wiiu is actually really really really easy to sell! All you say is something like this :

”The Wiiu is NIntendo’s next console, like what the PS4 is to the PS3… You can play all your Wii games on it and use all your Wii accessories including your balance boards etc. It has these brand new Mario games and this Sonic game only on Wiiu. Also it has a good selection of adult games such as Assassins creed and Call of duty and more child friendly games such as Skylanders and Disney infinity” Insta-sale.

If everyone in the UK knew that this was the case, the Wiiu would be selling like 20 times more.

        • JB

Awesome! When it comes to video games, I generally direct people towards the Wii U. I think it’s that awesome (especially when the other games start releasing) Don’t get me wrong, I’m a gamer and love my PS4 and XB1, but the Wii U still takes the majority of my free time when I game or if I have friends over. That may be because of a lack of compelling launch games for either system and the fact that I don’t have a lot of time on my hands and back catalog of Wii U games I’ve yet to complete. Lol

        • Michael Rowlands

just think how many consoles Nintendo would sell in the UK if Morrisons and Asda started selling the wii u again….to say how hard it is to get wii u games in the uk I don’t think Nintendo is doing to bad

          • Nintedward

It aint hard to get Wiiu games in the UK. Still the majority of goo stores sell Wiiu games. Honestly the one which removed it like Morrison have absolutely tiny game shelves. Even when the Wii was in its height of popularity they would only have like 5 games in there….

All the main Video game outlets in the UK still sell the Wiiu

          • Michael Rowlands

will all I can say is you don’t live in Grantham I do…There is only c.e.x in Grantham you can buy wii u hardware and software and that’s 2nd hand..

          • Nintedward

Grantham? I’m not even sure where that is ;S. I live in Manchester, Greater Manchester has a population of about 6.5 mllion it; a big City an there is tons of different places you can buy Wiiu consoles and games from, new or used.

        • http://nintendopapercraftvideos.wordpress.com/ Sam

          That’s awesome!
But,…you have to tell them about Zelda and Pikmin and Mario Kart and Smash Bros. and NBA 2K13 and Madden 13 and the fantastic graphics and the GamePad and …
I always thought your avatar was Jonah Hill for some reason, but now I know its Reggie. XD

You have all the right priorities. Nice one!

        • THEMIGHTYDOOVDE

Wish I still worked at Game in Abergavenny. I would of sold the shit out of that Wii U :-)

      • Magnus Eriksson

Cool idea. I will propose the same idea places I voluntare.

      • Adam Porter

      • tom

Fantastic! What a way to advertise! I will purchase my second one early next year! I think by christmas i think the Wii U will at least hit the 5 million mark.

        • JB

Thing about it is that I really didn’t even think about it as advertising until you wrote the post saying everyone should buy one for a friend. I just bought them because I know the U is a fantastic console that is more family/youth center friendly (at least more so than anything that I would find on the other two) and I wanted to do something nice for the all the kids I have a chance to mentor. Now it’s got me thinking, “well dang, these kids are really enjoying SMW3D, NL, Sports Club and the W101. I wonder how many will go back to their parents and ask for a Wii U!” (and we have A LOT of kids come through on a weekly basis)

As much crap as people give Nintendo of their products being tailored for kiddies, I think it’s great that they know not Everything needs blood and excessive swearing in it and that they still make games everyone can play!

      • Rinslowe

        Nice.

    • RecheDiazrivarola

Colleagues i think it is our social duty to approach people of our
closeness and talk to you about the good product that is Wiiu.
(Recommend) Nintendo expects to sell 9 million at the end of March. 9
Million is what sold ps3 in the same period of time (vchartz), not to be
discouraged the Wiiu can still recover as ps3. But maybe you need a bit of your help

      • Mithiragi

        That’s a nice picture. It’s cute lol

      • Mario

Ah look! Even Sonic and Snake have joined the party!

    • Shota

no problem. i planning to buy wii u windwaker edition. what’s wrong with having 2 wii u’s? It’s a great system!

    • Jack5221

Thats exactly what I did! I bought a Wii U for my two sisters for Christmas! Then I convinced a friend of mine to finally buy one and he did. Also, when Zelda U comes out, Im buying the bundle as my 2nd Wii U, because we ALL know theres going to be a bundle!

      • Bortly

It wont launch in a bundle I don’t think…maybe a year later depending on sales…

    • megamanultra

Actually, I already did just that! Not only that, I have picked up an extra eight games for that very unit, including a $50 copy of 3d world today.

      • tom

Wow you have already did your part! I will pick up another Wii u when mario kart 8 is released. So my wife and i can have our own tv. LOL. But for real if only half of the Wii U owners picked up a second console that would help out a ton!!!

    • Germany

I bought 3, one for me, One for my kids, and One for my nephew and niece for Christmas this year

      • tom

Sweet. I need to open my wallet and get another one!

      • Rinslowe

        Soldier

    • Virus6

So instead of Nintendo doing their part and giving people reasons to buy a Wii U, we are supposed to just give a console to someone who probably doesn’t even want one? Yeah… brilliant idea…

      • tom

You are right! I will force the wii u on them! Lol

          • Simon Stevens

Jon turner where are you!?!?!?!?!? I’M NOT FINISHED WITH YOU YET YOU DAMN IDIOT!!!!!! even if the tales series was not ruled out on wii u they debunked that & said NO! >=( square enix ruled out kh3 because of directx11 & would rather be supporting xb1 guys don’t listen to Jon turner you’re just wasting your time!!!! >=( f-zero revival chances>starfox revival chances. :P oh and 1st party titles make the install base for 3rd parties worse. :P

oh and 1st party titles make the install base for 3rd parties worse. :P

    • Simon Stevens

Tales better not go away >.< kh3……meh, I waited too long, too many inbetween games that didn't make sense, we could always steal ys under Sony's nose?, Adol would suit Nintendo, be nice to see a home console version of ys for a change

      • Brandon

oh it will go away when they did not rule it out shortly after that what do you know? they ruled it out… a 3rd time. :P

        • Simon Stevens

I could see Tales doing really well on the Wii u, it’s a system suiter, I’d at like some ports eventually of Xillia, can understand if we don’t get it though, seeing as they have exclusively been working under Sony for a while now, kh3 though… I really don’t see ny reason why it won’t go onto the Wii U, other than just plain not wanting too

          • Brandon

directx11 is the reason. plus even though square-enix are japanese devs they would rather bring kh3 to xbox 1 where it possibly wont release in japan. :P oh and the tales series would do well on wii u but we won’t get 1 game. pathetic namco. pathetic.

          • Simon Stevens

Square just make strange decisions these days, their not the company I once knew and loved, the pricing of their recent mobile release, just absurd.

          • Brandon

and why oh why did deus ex come to wii u when we will not get the next one!?!?!?!? why overprice it!?

          • Simon Stevens

it makes no sense to me at all, they should have just stuck with being a jrpg only company, they were successful at it, deus ex is okay but not worth what there wanting just for new gamepad features

          • Brandon

new gampad features that got ported to other platforms like vita & smartglass. :P

          • NkoSekirei

and namco is the one helping make smash they can go fk themselves for screwing us by not giving us tales games seriously if that all their gonna do….

          • Simon Stevens

We deserve at least one exclusive game from them, just one, doesn’t even have to be tales, something like eternal sonata would do

          • NkoSekirei

well they could of giving us the remastered hd tales of symphonia but no they give it to the other consoles

          • Guest

Just because it doesn’t look like TALES will be coming anytime soon doesn’t mean it won’t come at all. I’d say about 2015-2016 at latest. Remember, they said “not at this time”, not “not ever.” The only console they REALLY ruled out was XBox One. But WiiU is still up in the air at this point.

          • Brandon

not at this time? looks at resident evil 6 statement… :P dude give up already! wii u has been ruled out 3 TIMES! xb1 has been ruled out only once.

          • Guest

No. YOU GIVE UP. You are wasting your time trying to convince me.

          • Brandon

it’s been ruled out 3 times dude!

          • Guest

            Go away.

          • Brandon

no how about YOU get out of MY life! >=(

          • Simon Stevens

Now now boys, were speaking opinions, not facts, we should all respect eachothers opinions as fellow gamers, don’t make me get out the “there is no need to be upset” meme’s

          • Guest

I WAS trying to be reasonable and opinionated. But I don’t appreciate being attacked like this. I was just trying to be reasonable.

          • Guest

Why don’t YOU stop bothering me then? I’m getting sick to death of you telling me over and over that WiiU is done for and that there’s no hope of TALES OR KH3, because nothing you say is going to convince me. What is wrong with me having faith? Oh, and tell me to give up? Please. Try telling that to yourself. You are wasting your time trying to argue with me.

          • Brandon

oh please! YOU bothered me 1st! :P

          • Guest

I wasn’t trying to bother you. I was just stating my opinion. I don’t understand why you have to take everything I say as an attack, because it is absolutely not intended as one. I was just stating my opinion.

          • Brandon

yeah like you giving out false hope is any better! :P

          • Guest

If you don’t agree with what I’m saying then just don’t bother reading it. It’s that simple. I don’t understand why you wish to put me down everytime I have something to say, but it’s not intended at you. Nobody is asking you to read what I say.

          • Brandon

you know if you give false hope to people & it does not happen it’s you’re fault. :P

          • Guest

It’s not false hope. It’s cautious optimism. I’m not saying it will happen, I’m just holding hope. Why are you berating me for trying to be levelheaded about this? Why are you even so obsessed with bullying me? I have no ill will against you and I pity that you have to wallow in such negativity, but I would prefer to wait and see instead of jumping to conclusions. If you think I’m giving false hope, fine, think like that, but don’t you try to tell me to give up or that I’m giving people grief, because I’m not trying to do any such thing.

Tales of Symphonia, one of many GC gems, we need our relationships with these companies to be strong, somehow, only Nintendo are giving, others are taking, selfish assholes need to realize, we need them to give us games to drive that install base, not give us lip.

          • Brandon

what install base? It ain’t getting bigger! :P

    • Guest

Why do you even bother wasting your time trying to come after me? I have no interest in anything you have to say.

      • Brandon

because I hate you & you hate me? :P

        • Guest

If you don’t like me at all then just avoid me. It’s as simple as that. There’s no need for you to keep on bullying me. I certainly have no ill will against you, I just can’t stand constant negativity.

I dont think this is bad actually. It is decent considering the drought of games the wii u went through (and the drought is partially nintendo’s fault but not fully. Dont forget how Ubi delayed Rayman Legends and Aliens: Colonial marines was cancelled. it was bad anyway) As Reggie says software sells hardware and the Wii U has only just recently started getting good software. So I’m going to reserve judgement until like 5, 6 months into 2014 when hopefully some real heavy hitters are out

Well, considering there where little to no games released for almost half of the year it was released then it really didn’t sale to bad, I have a feeling if they would have released more games during the drought than it would be closer to 7 million, and the games they did release over the first year weren’t very big games, Pikmin 3 was a great game but it wasn’t a very well known name, and Rayman legends not being exclusive didn’t really help, not to mention the near abysmal amount of advertising, I haven’t seen one commercial for the Wii U, although I don’t watch TV much, but the Gamestops in my area almost completely ignore the Wii U, I haven’t seen them advertised in other places like Target, Walmart or even Best buy in my area either, My point is Nintendo hasn’t advertised much and there was a HUGE game drought during most It’s life span, The Wii U isn’t doomed i just don’t think it will “Win” this generation, and it still will most likely have a comeback once Zelda, Mario Kart 8, Super smash brothers, Donkey Kong come out, and that’s not counting unannounced games like Miyamotos new IP, and hopefully a new Metroid, Starfox and alot of people want a new F-Zero, 4.3 million really isn’t that bad considering all It’s problems It’s had so far.

  • Justagamer

@John Kinsley Well John if people would have a little more faith in the Wii U and have more faith in Nintendo it might help and Nintendo knows what they are doing. They have been here longer than the other two

  • Jonathan George Anaya

I want an Article on WiiU Daily explaining how bad the WiiU sold in Nov. Why? To INFORM delusional Fanboys. Not to rain on anyone’s parade, but, Nintendo’s Console was 10% of Next Gen sales. 2.1 million PS4/X1s sold compared to the WiiUs 230k

When did PS4 and XBOX One launch?

What happens with most new products, especially electronics?
They all sell like hotcakes when they’re first released. Why? Because of the hype and the fact that’s it’s all new and shiny.

Wait until January/February ~ and compare the sales-rate.

    • Cesar Barroso

I want article stating how bad the games for PS4 and XBOX ONE are. why? to INFORM delusional fanboys they have been buying the wrong games on the wrong consoles.

      • Diana of Themyscira

        Spoken like a fanboy.

    • Rinslowe

You’re not raining anything… Those “next gen” consoles just released. Of course there is overwhelming interest in those systems right now. Alternatively Wii U did very well in the first three months also.
Just to be clear, I’m not saying that “next gen” sales aren’t impressive. They certainly are… Or that Wii U’s 3 month launch window was just as good, it very very likely won’t have been…
But it’s better to consider every aspect before jumping the gun. Wii U sales are improving consistently everywhere. That’s the take home message here buddy. When DK drops there will be another surge. When Kart drops in March/ April there will be another surge. Then Smash, Bayonetta 2, X and so on. Read between the lines, because no matter how successful the other consoles remain to be during that time, it does not prove Wii U’s failure by default.
The pie is really that big…

  • Graham Klerks

PS4 and XBone could actually help the Wii’s sales. Their not cheap like the PS3 and X360 are now, and are priced above the Wii U. Graphics makes less of a difference now then last-gen. There aren’t exactly a massive amount of games for kids on the two former consoles, especially not AAA titles like Mario and Zelda. The fact it’s got a head-start, and as long as Nintendo doesn’t think everyone is like you guys, buying 4 consoles and giving them to friends (not that there’s anything wrong with that, spread the love!), they’ve got a real chance.

Third-party support as always should be improved. They knew what they were walking into making the Wii U, and approximately what M$ and Sony would release – they should be more prepared then them appear to be at the moment. More MA15+ and R18 games would keep the younger demographic from “upgrading” to “mature” consoles like the PS4 and XBone. I’m not saying adults never want to play games like Mario, but if a good shoot’em-up is there as well, it does add variety. Plus, it’s a perception thing, is it cool to have a system that has loads of games that are PG ? Not in today’s society, with some parents wanting them to play wholesome games, some not caring, and ultimately kids will want what they want.

I’ll never buy an XBone after being burned with an X360. PS4 or Wii U, possibly. But I’m not sold on either yet.

  • LoBo_UK

Mario Kart 8 will sell 10 million consoles alone , cant see what all the fuss is about

    • NkoSekirei

      so will smash bros too

      • LoBo_UK

Like Reggie said, 2014 will be a great year for Nintendo
        I’m inclined to agree with him , MK8 , Smash Brothers , Zelda U ..

        • Brandon

yeah reggie is wrong on that.

          • NkoSekirei

nope hes not and reggie did say theres tons of great games coming for the wii u next year maybe u should read the articles more carefully

          • Brandon

I read it carefully & all i see is 1st party. I want 3rd party without getting a ps4 & especially NOT a xb1! 3rd party support would not have been so bad if YOU did not buy games because of missing local play. LOCAL PLAY! who cares! plus even if 3rd party does not matter to you, wii u deserves 3rd party! the damn thing just is getting bullied out of next gen.

          • NkoSekirei

i do buy third party games dumb@$$ i have assassin creed 4,splinter cell blacklist, rayman legends, batman arkham origins, batman arkham city armored edition, assassin creed 3,ninja gaiden 3 razor edge, need for speed most wanted and darksiders 2 and soon bayonetta 2 and watch dogs so u say i dont buy their games how about u stfu then

          • Brandon

            No, how about you stfu!

          • CMB

they have to build their userbase firstwith 1st party, then 3rd party can come.

          • Brandon

tell that to xb1 dude it got japanese games from square-enix wii u WILL ONLY HAVE 1 JRPG. so no that’s not it either! >=( oh and xb1 should not release in japan. PERIOD!!!! >=( trust me, even when the f*cking install base gets bigger NO ONE will support wii u. :P I’m still waiting for crapcom to drop wii u support.

          • Guest

No offense, but… X is not the only JRPG coming to WiiU. Don’t forget that there is SMTxFE. Oh, and DQX2.0 just recently hit WiiU, and guess what? It not only did better than DQX did on WiiU, it also contributed to the sales boost that week! (And that is a SQUARE-ENIX Japanese game!) That’s not all either: there’s CHILD OF LIGHT, CRYAMORE, PIER SOLAR HD, ANIMA: GATE OF MEMORIES, FESTIVAL OF MAGIC, UNEPIC… granted, they’re indie titles, but they’re still JRPGs. So they count. We also have MH3U and ME3. Ports or not, they still count. Also, where do you get it through your head that nobody will support WiiU if its sales improve? Several third parties have clearly stated that they will come back and/or continue support when that happens. ACTIVISION, Ubisoft, and even EA said it, so I wouldn’t be surprised if other Japanese third parties are taking a similar attitude.

          • Brandon

clearly stated? no they didn’t! :P plus I would wait till crapcom says “NO FUTURE PLANS FOR WII U” because they have been shunning the damn thing since 2011. oh & NONE of their big franchises (RE:revelations is a spin off does not count) on wii u. I’m also NOT waiting for street fighter 5 since that game is going to suck hard. I’d rather have 4. no old ports? tell that to strider Idgaf on how bad double helix is.

          • Guest

Wrong again. Aside from MH3U, they’ve given us RE:R, and DUCKTALES REMASTERED. All of which were successful on WiiU. So far Capcom has no reason to avoid WiiU, and they’re even giving WiiU another MH next week in Japan. What makes you think they’re going to stop supporting the system? As far as I’m concerned, those successes all but assure continued support from Capcom.

You seriously think Activision, Ubisoft, and EA stated that they wouldn’t be back? Have you forgotten that Activision CEO said that they want WiiU to do well? Ubisoft has announced no plans to abandon WiiU. EA has been flaky at best, but they did say at one time they would be back.

Really, stop being so pessimistic. Things are gradually getting better, sales wise for WiiU.

          • Brandon

ducktales & mh3U is too niche & RE:R is a spinoff but not part of the franchises canon. I’d take a main RE game (it will not come) over revelations anyday.

          • Guest

Well, who’s to say that RE7 WON’T come to WiiU? Just because RE6 didn’t make it (and really, WiiU dodged a bullet in this case; that game was reportedly bad. Why would Capcom want to put a poorly received entry on WiiU?) doesn’t mean RE7 won’t make it. It hasn’t been confirmed yet, but until it’s officially announced that it isn’t coming, you have no proof that it isn’t coming.

          • Brandon

re:6 would have sold better on wii u than revelations. why? revelations sold bad on wii u because pretty much all of them had a 3ds to play revelations. oh and we DID NOT dodge the bullet we got shot by it & bled to death by it. :P

          • NkoSekirei

nope it wouldnt cause their were some serious issues with re6 that alot of people didnt like

          • Brandon

wrong again dipshit! If crapcom were really supporting wii u they would give us a BIG franchise not a crappy niche franchise! :P I waited for a big crapcom franchise since 2011! but now I will be predicting one at the end of the f*cking cycle. -sighface-

          • Guest

You REALLY need to tone down the namecalling. It’s going to get you into trouble. Secondly, MH is a niche franchise? HELLO! it’s one of Japan’s BIGGEST franchises!

      • Guest

Yeah, that game is a seller. It’s also interesting that Namco is co-developing that game with Nintendo. Should the collaboration prove successful and sell more systems, I don’t see why we can’t get a TALES. We don’t know if SMASH is all they’re going to do or not, let’s just wait and see before jumping to conclusions.

        • Brandon

not you again jon turner…. we will not see a tales game because tales on wii u was ruled out… 3 times. kh3 was also rulled out for wii u because the directx11 statement is not false, it’s a fact moron!

          • NkoSekirei

heres the thing tales games have been on the declined for while they havent been as good since tales of symphonia for the gamecube which is still the best tales game ever.Monolith X will probably put tales in its place as the best rpg game ever since xenoblade

          • Brandon

yet x will be the only jrpg on wii u. -__-

          • NkoSekirei

we dont know that for sure cause if X ends up being the best rpg game for the wii u im sure this will make the namco eat monoliths dust on making good quality rpg games and im not saying all tales games are bad cause tales of symphonia remains the best tales game ever but the current ones dont live up to it cause mostly they been get scores 7.5 to 8.0 at least but xenoblade for the wii scored mostly above 9.5 to 10 on some game sites.

          • Guest

I agree. TALES OF SYMPHONIA WAS an awesome game. It’s one of my favorites. I do find it odd that we didn’t get the HD upgrade, but on the flipside, if what Nintendo said about GC VC is true, then we could get that on VC.

          • Brandon

nope that won’t happen either I’d rather see more n64 games n64>gcn>>>>wii :P

          • Virus6

Except that sales for Tales have been pretty good lately. Vesperia and Xillia were both really damn good and well received. Symphonia is not even one of the best 3D Tales game. People just spout that because it was either their only Tales game or their first one. Same reason why so many people like FFVII.

          • sharlo galmo

Couple this with the fact that Project CARS is already guaranteed to run on the Wii U at 720p at 30 frames per second, and it’s at least looking good for Wii U owners being able to play one of the most graphically high-end games coming to the market in 2014. It’s also a very telling thing when you have a game like Project CARS running DirectX 11 equivalent graphics on the Wii U all while other developers are claiming that the system just can’t hang.

There are good times ahead for Wii U owners, mostly courtesy of the independent gaming circuit, where the developers are willing to take risks on a number of fronts, including the addition of high-end graphics with original, unique gameplay facilities, such as the upcoming game Candle, which uses multi-directional light maps and DirectX 11 equivalent shaders for their engaging, hand-painted platforming title.

          • Guest

Having said all that, though, there’s still a chance for KH3 to appear, contrary to what Brandon says. Playeressence already proved that the DX11 was a lie. SE never once mentioned a confirmation nor a denial of this game OR FFXV for WiiU. So the truth is we don’t know anymore than they do. Anyone who claims otherwise… I don’t know what to say about such people who keep on trying to push that on others.

      • Virus6

Smash will be on 3DS. That will probably take a lot of the wind out of the Wii U sales. Why buy a 300 dollar console for one game when you can either just get it for the 3DS that you already have or just buy one for like… 150?

        • Brandon

this smash is going to bomb on wii u. :P

          • NkoSekirei

sry dude ur wrong on that part

          • Guest

Oh give me a break. First you say “Tales and KH3 will never come”, then it’s “WiiU is finished and will lose to XBox1 and PS4″, then it’s “Crapcom hates WiiU”, then it’s “Star Fox is dead” and “1st party titles make WiiU worse”, and now it’s “Smash Bros” is going to fail on WiiU?

I am absolutely… mindblown that anyone can stubbornly believe such things. Seriously, you don’t have any real proof of that. Only time will tell, but if SMASH sold on Wii and GC, why wouldn’t it sell on WiiU? That just doesn’t make sense. Just like a lot of the stuff that you say.

          • Brandon

it’s on 3ds & WILL sell more on that stupid portable! >=(

          • Jon Turner

O_o Nah, I see both selling on par.

          • Brandon

people would MUCH RATHER play smash on the shitty portable than wii u! >=(

          • Guest

Like I said, proof will be in the pudding. There’s NO GUARANTEEING what you said is going to happen will happen. It’s just pure speculation and trolling.

    • tom

I think Mario Kart 8 will move 1 million consoles the first month!

      • LoBo_UK

Not bad for the first month

  • Wiiluigi

If kart and smash released January February then I think they would reach their goal. But I think they’re saving the best for last. As it stands now nintendo will not release a title I’m interested in til at least February. I mean you never know what sales will look like for Christmas especially if there are out of stock on ps4 and Xbone. There are a lot of factors that contribute. But look wii u sales are not as bad as people really thought so you never know. We’ll see.

  • http://nintendopapercraftvideos.wordpress.com/ Sam

The caption for that picture; BUY THIS!

  • Jon

2 million consoles per month? Where did you learn math….. We still have 3 months after December so that would be 10.3 million consoles if they sold 2 million and December is just half way over now so add another 1 million…., so if you go by this 2 million consoles a month, that would mean there would be over 11 million consoles sold… not that that would be a bad thing if it ever did that but your math is WAY off… almost by 20%….

Also, the Wii U is actually around 4.5 million right now. And also, it is Super Mario 3D WORLD. Not Land.

    • Rinslowe

“Also, the Wii U is actually around 4.5 million right now.”
I also suspect that the total has to be around that figure or a little bit higher. Wii U has been confirmed to sell in Japan alone for last 3 weeks + 114k units we know for certain due to reliable sources. The US has sold lets say 200k in Nov (most sources saying 230k). That’s already 314k. Combine with lifetime sales of 4.1m confirmed at Oct end and already that ‘s 4.4m. Are we to believe the rest of the world was static? During the month of Nov?
Again 4.1m was confirmed in Nov but was calculated based on confirmed figures to Oct end.
I know we’re probably nitpicking here. But still… WTF to this article.

      • peeer

I wouldn’t worry much, knowing John Kinsley for a while on this website all he have been able to do here so far is bring negatives. I seen him having the chance to post some positive news here and he did not even do it. I’m starting to believe he is a nintendo hater or something unfortunately. :(

    • peeer

Yeah… Plus with this 4.3M on the article the news poster written prolly meant up to November 30th although he haven’t specified. Since the week from December 1st to December 7th alone Nintendo sold 174,092 and brought the total Wii U units to 4.5M (source: vgchartz.com). So, you can easily count a full 4 months there…

  • Michael Hancock

As long as the Wii U is around long enough for “X” to be released, I really don’t care what happens.

  • ENDOT123

    come on wii u!!!!!!

  • PS4/WiiU

you can just go on vgchartz.com and they update the sales weekly or 2 weeks

    • Rinslowe

No-one relies on VGchartz because the only time their sales figures are accurate is when they’re posting their no’s in hindsight.

    • Pikachief

vgchartz is usually wrong. They’re always either too low or too high.

      • PS4/WiiU

ya but they are still pretty close. This time they wrote 4.4 million when it was actually 4.3. And its better than waiting a whole quarter

    • NintenScience

      lol

  • Rinslowe

I think we need new facts… Everyone is well aware of how Nintendo sales have been picking up since Pikmin. Nearly everyone posting here regularly can go back to their own previous posts and have at least a couple saying exactly that. Therefore news like this is redundant in that respect.
Also, I would like to see hard no’s on those figures provided – not just source-less dribble. Referring to lifetime totals… Where is the report?

  • Graham Gillman

Still better than the PS3 and Vita year one sales.

  • Gibosdog

I got the Wii U on release date and have been happy with games like pikmin 3 and wind waker. I’m really looking forward to 3D world.( kart and smash… Please release these games already). For now, I will play BF4 on my PS4.

    • Rinslowe

Is 3D world not out in your region yet? I thought it was released everywhere by now…
Until you reply, I guess I too will play BF4 on my PC. lol.
      :)

      Edit: noted.

  • Donaald

As long as it has the games I want…

    • Jon Turner

Well of course they want to have a steady flow of games. But I’m sure they can pull it off.

      • Brandon

        they won’t. :P

facts? like wii u’s failing this x-mas? :P

          • NkoSekirei

its not dude seriously get ur facts straight and besides xbox one and ps4 didnt have a good launch either and some issues as well

they still are selling way better than wii u.

          • Guest

            go to hell! >=(

          • NkoSekirei

see thats my point dude ur not being respectful

          • Jon Turner

He wasn’t banned just on IGN. He was banned from wiiuforums.com as well. I seriously don’t understand why he wants to be so nasty to me because I as far as I’m concerned, I don’t see WiiU having a terrible 2014 just like they did 2013. Also, PS4 and XBox One’s hype is already diminishing. Oh sure, they sold a million each out of the gate, but the sales are not stable. PS4 tumbled into the 93k-135k range here in America, and even in Europe recently. XBox One is doing poorly in Europe too, and only marginally well here. Also, WiiU cleared about 3 million units in its first year. Three million. And you seriously expect either one of those two systems are going to sell that much with all the badly rated games that are there? Sorry, I don’t see that happening. The only reason why both cleared a million was because of hype.

          • NkoSekirei

hes doesnt like the fact that the wii u is starting to improve and all he does is spout nonsense and hate that wat most of the trolls do here and ign and insults as well

          • Jon Turner

That and he really wants me to lose hope on ever seeing KH3 and TALES on WiiU. Both of which I refuse to do. Now it may take time for both, but as of now I have no reason to lose faith in either coming. Neither have been completely ruled out. Last I heard Hideo Baba said “no plans at this time” which never means “no.” And Namco DOES have a good relationship with Nintendo, so it’s still possible. KH3 was neither confirmed nor denied for WiiU… and not for the reasons it was originally reported as. (The DX11 reason was just a mistranslated hoax that some guy on GameTrailers turned into a clickbait article and it got out of hand.)

          • NkoSekirei

i do hope dragon quest 10 eventually comes over here

          • Jon Turner

Yeah, same here. Who knows. Either way, better to be cautiously optimistic than give up altogether. (And no, I’m really NOT doing this to get anyone’s hopes up. I just want to have faith that it will happen.)

          • NkoSekirei

me either remember alot of people got over hyped on the video game awards and end up getting burned i mean mostly we get hyped for is e3 or nintendo directs not some stupid award show cause theres no point to announce something big on that crappy show

          • Brandon

it will… but it will only be the pc version.

          • X3Charlie

I really do want to see KH3 on Wii U, so many Nintendo fans overlap with it.

          • Jon Turner

Same here. Hopefully SE will see the light.

          • Brandon

they won’t they would MUCH rather be supporting the xb1.

          • Brandon

No plans at this time is does not mean anything! >=( its been ruled out after that moron! >=( plus the dx11 thing IS A FACT!!!!!!

          • Guest

It’s not. Playeressence exposed that as a lie. SE NEVER said such a thing at the conference. If you don’t believe me look at Playeressence. They exposed the controversy. Also, please, why do you keep on trying to crush my hopes for a TALES game? ANYTHING can happen over the next two years. I can still have faith in at least one TALES game coming to WiiU. Deal with it and stop with this “it’s not coming you moron” stuff. It’s getting old fast.

          • Brandon

well it’s not coming square hates the fucking system!

          • NkoSekirei

no they did not say that dude sheesh ur trolling against the wii u knows no bounds

          • Brandon

square sent deus ex to die on wii u. :P

          • NkoSekirei

that game was out on other systems to begin with before they decide to remake it and i wasnt quite interested in it mostly dragon quest 10 was on my rader which hopefully will come to the wii u and im a patience person.

          • Guest

Exactly. No one knows for sure what’s going to happen. ANYTHING can change in the next years. Assuming that SE dislikes WiiU is just ludicrous. As for DEUS EX, yes they made a bad call on that. But guess what? Even after that, DQX 2.0 still did very well in Japan on WiiU. If anything, that shows that they won’t be abandoning the system for some time. So sorry, but until you have proof that SE dislikes WiiU (you don’t), you’re not gonna convince me otherwise. Deal with it.

          • Brandon

no one asked for it on wii u that’s my fucking point!>=(

          • Guest

The DC actually outsold the PS3/XBox 360 versions on WiiU, just like “Rayman Legends” did. So apparently, there WERE some people who were interested.

            Fail…

            trolololololololololololol

          • sharlo galmo

No they did’nt, do you’re research dude, the WiiU sold 3 million in december. so that means in one month, the PS4 and Xbone are right now past the 2 million, so they got one million to go, and right now the alsmost past a month…

          • Brandon

no their lauch was way better than wii u’s launch. GET YOU’RE FACTS STRAIGHT!

          • Guest

Sharlo galmo isn’t the one who is confused about his facts. He also doesn’t try to forcefeed negativity down others’ throats.

            “not”

    • NkoSekirei

wat reggie said they learned their lesson this year and their be alot of games coming down the pipeline for next year with some big hitters as well

  • Squid

Wait didn’t Iwata say he’d step down if they didn’t reach goals? Who would take his spot?
Edit: guys I’m not asking him to, I’d just like to know.

    • Jon Turner

He never did. That was ALWAYS a misunderstanding. Whether WiiU reaches 9 million or not, he will not be stepping down anytime soon.

      • Mithiragi

If it was true though, I would’ve liked to see Aonuma take the spot.

        • Jon Turner

I don’t think Aonuma is that qualified to do the job.

          • Mithiragi

Over anyone else at the moment, for me at least. He seems straight edge. I read somewhere in which he even said that Nintendo is kinda slow in marketing, putting out games, and in their way of thinking.

      • Squid

        http://wiiudaily.com/2013/01/iwata-could-step-down-if-sales-for-nintendo-dont-pick-up/
I don’t want him to step down. But it does seem I misread the article.

    • Virus6

He just said he’d take personal responsibility if they didn’t reach their sales goal. That has nothing to do with stepping down. He might just take another salary cut

  • Josie the Sketcher

YAY! All I can say is that it’s a start.

Microsoft and Sony (hunger for power and realism graphics) fans say “Wii U is for Kids” and stupidly ask “Wii U is a next gen console?” They’re THAT arrogant.

I just want to slap them hard in the face many times and say “At least Wii U games actually provide fun gameplay and variety for the whole family rather than cinematic blockbusters with hardcore gamers swearing at the TV ”

I saw some previews of Bayonetta 2 game play on YouTube and read some obviously jealous comments from Microsoft and Sony fans so Nintendo are doing something right. It looks pretty challenging but very impressive!

Sure I love Sony but the only thing that’s making me starting to dislike them are their fans bashing Nintendo just because the console is weaker

COME ON NINTENDO!!! WE BELIEVE IN YOU!!!!! NEVER EVER GIVE UP!!!!!

    • NkoSekirei

heres a thing they really dont know how powerful the wii u cause none of the devs are willing to push the wii u to its max power but it seem monolith is gonna show how its done with X

      • Josie the Sketcher

I absolutely agree! It’s really sad that devs don’t give the Wii U much attention! They’re just lazy.

I read somewhere that X is going to be seamless open world gameplay. I reckon it’ll be a system seller for sure as well as Bayonetta 2 and Zelda Wii U.

It would be awesome if Zelda U had a open world bigger than Skyrim and GTA V – besides the Wii U is more powerful than the PS3 so why not?

        • sharlo galmo

I read somewhere that X is going to be seamless open world gameplay.

You read it some where? Iwata self say it will be a big open world gameplay, check the E3 direct presentation and you will hear it again.

          • Josie the Sketcher

OK it may not be seamless. They just need to make it big as they can and really need to show the world what the Wii U is capable of doing.

    • Mario

Because the fans won’t give up on you guys either.

  • BrandonIsAGod

Could only imagine how the sales would be if Mario Kart 8 was out now, or if it was bundled with the consoles.

  • Michael Nillo

If Nintendo wants to reach those numbers, is it safe to expect Smash Bros or Mario Kart?

    • Virus6

      In three months? Hardly.

  • Efuck@fukce.com

Wii U Daily math: 4.3Million + 2 million / month from December to March inclusive (4 months) = 9 Million [OFF BY AT LEAST 3.3 MILLION]

Actual Math: 4.3 Million (*Includes N.A. sales through November, but other Regions only until end of October or earlier) + 1.175 Million / month Dec – Mar = 9 Million

So IN FACT, the actual monthly average they need to meet their goals is about 1.1 million per month, barely more than half of the ludicrous estimate WUD is giving here.

    • Zuxs13

VGCharts (not the most accurate place) has the total at 4.5mil world wide right now. So they would still have to get 4.5mil by the end of march. So for the full 4 months between now and March 31 you are pretty much right. Either way it wont happen.

      • Efuck@fukce.com

Even if it won’t happen, not reaching target sales levels is not the end of the world. Investors expect optimistic numbers, they won’t abandon Nintendo for missing their target while still turning a profit.

  • Josie the Sketcher

OK After watching this video, I think i’m moving further away from PS4 now and staying with the PS3 for a while.

    http://youtu.be/kQNhPaORCGA

Thank god MiiVerse doesn’t allow stuff like this.

    • Mithiragi

      lmaoooo

  • shanafan

Does the article really say Super Mario 3D Land at the end?

    • Mithiragi

Yeah. Can’t believe they haven’t fixed that yet.

      • shanafan

        Yep, still says it lol.

  • FutureFox

That’s 9 million life time sales they’re looking to reach. They’re seeking 4.7 million more consoles to sell. Take that figure and they would need to sell ~1.18 million units per month starting now. The article’s math is wrong.

EDIT: I’m wrong. The article is correct. Nintendo is smoking the really good stuff. : )

    • Efuck@fukce.com

You’re exactly right. No idea where the downvotes are coming from. Retards perhaps?

  • Skelterz

Big News! i was just checking out an online catalogue for a company called woolworths they used to be massive in the uk for anyone who’s british you should recognise the company anyway i think they may have made a big blunder by letting the mario kart 8 release date slip check out this link, my thoughts are if this correct that nintendo are planning every two months to release a AAA game in 2014, donkey kong comes in feb kart come in april, smash bros in june?? only time will tell happy gaming.

Nintendo’s plan is to bring every month a AAA game, i think that they count watch dog also as a AAA game, so i think they dont bring a firstparty game when that one is coming out. January wii fit u, Februari Donkey Kong, March maybe Watchdogs,April maybe Mariokart, may maybe Smash bro’s, Juni maybe Yarn yoshi,July maybe Fire emblem x SMT,august maybe Bayonetta 2,September maybe Miyamoto new IP,Oktober maybe Monolith soft with X,november maybe Fast Racing Neo, december maybe Zelda U.

I don’t now the release list, but i show you that they can easly bring every month AAA game in 2014, Iwata say it a couple month’s ago, that they will bring every month a firstparty game…

      • Skelterz

could be but watchdogs is stated for june mate.

      • Ice Climbers

I think it’s more DK in February, Mario Kart in March, Bayonetta 2 in April, Yarn Yoshi in May, Watch_Dogs in June, SMTxFE in July, X in August, Smash in October, Zelda in November. More games will be announced during the year, including that third Sonic game, which could be September’s game.

  • Skelterz

on the next page of the link i posted it says watchdogs delivered by 27th of june

“–Still a far cry from Nintendo’a own estimates.”

Almost got excited there, glad I’m reminded to remain pessimistic about Nintendo

  • Krzysztof

They’d have to sell Wii U with the 3DS rate.

  • http://its-yuma-tsukumo.tumblr.com/ Yuma Tsukumo

Wasn’t 5 million the amount they wanted to sell by April 2013? I think people are just waiting for games such as Bayonetta 2, Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, Monolith’s X, Legend of Zelda Wii U, Super Smash Brothers and of course, Mario Kart 8. 2014/2015 are going to be a good two years for Nintendo.

    • Zuxs13

originally 5.5 by the end of March 2013, but lowered to 4mil. Then 9 mil for fiscal year 2014.

  • MujuraNoKamen

Actually Wii U had a strong start, it sold 3 million in 3 months whch was higher than PS3 and 360 managed.
Anyway, can we get some confirmation on wether they wanted Wii U’s lifetime sales to reach 9m by the end of te fiscal year, or sell 9m just this fiscal year.
If its the latter then they’re fighting an uphill battle but if it’s the former then I believe its possible provided they get Kart out by early March.

    • Levi Johansen

It’s 9 million just this fiscal year.

They’re probably expecting to sell 50-70 million during it’s lifetime.
I think they’ll sell even more though, because I think this generation will last alot longer than just 6 years.

      • MujuraNoKamen

        OK thanks.
It wight only reach 25m if sales don’t pick up soon but if they do, and they probably will, then who knows where it could go.
This gen will last a while I’m sure but Wii U might not, Wii didn’t last as long as PS3 and 360 and if Nintendo doesn’t fix the problems it has then things will only get worse.

        • Levi Johansen

PS3 and Xbox 360 might last until 2016, or longer. The next gen game engines support them after all, most of them anyway.

Wii U is more powerful, but the next next-gen (of 2018-2022) engines will probably not be supported, but I would be very supriced if Nintendo makes a new console before 2020.

Nintendo sold around 25-30 million of N64 and GameCube and they were commercial failures, N64 should have had discs and more internal RAM and GameCube should have had DVD’s.

The marked has grown alot since then and gaming is no longer a nerd thing, everybody is doing it. 50 million is my prediction, but who knows…

      • Efuck@fukce.com

Actually, it’s 9 million by the end of this fiscal year.

“Nintendo’s target was to sell 9 million Wii U units by the end of the 2014 financial year”

        • Levi Johansen

2014 fiscal year ends March 2014 though.
          Wierd…

          • Efuck@fukce.com

Yeah I don’t understand why fiscal years don’t align with, you know, actual years either.

        • Zuxs13

Depends on who inturprets the numbers. It seems like its 9 mil for the fiscal year the more i look at it.

          http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2013/04/24/nintendo-announces-fiscal-year-2013-report-fy-2014-projections/

          • Efuck@fukce.com

Granted, both of us are relying on second-hand sources for this, but I choose to believe the more reasonable idea of selling 9 mil by April 1 2014, as quoted by the IGN article I linked to, rather than the same amount within only one year. 9 million is high enough an estimate for lifetime sales.

    • Efuck@fukce.com

They wanted lifetime sales to hit 9 million by the end of this fiscal year.

    Let the blood.sheed commence

  • Levi Johansen

Nintendo could easily get to 9 million. Easily, but not cheap!

Start airing commercials of shooters and action games on TV, like Assassins Creed, Watch Dogs, Black List, ZombiU, CoD. Also of Mario Kart, Smash Bros and Bayonetta 2.

Most PS4 commercials like for Assassins Creed, Batman or CoD makes the game look exclusive, because it shows the game and the console as a still image at the end, smart move, Nintendo should do the same.

EDIT: The reason why Nintendo has not done this (or similar things) is probably because they would rather make the most money of every console sold, than to sell the most consoles.

That makes them the richest company at the start of every generation and the company with the most satisfied costumers, which is great.

    • NkoSekirei

dude 4 of those games arnt even out so they cant show them yet just saying and they alrdy are showing super mario 3d world commericals and sometimes pikmin 3

      • Levi Johansen

All of those games have trailers, but I guess they have to be out to make TV commercials… makes sense.

    • MujuraNoKamen

As well as the lack of games through 2013, marketing is the main reason Wii U has stumbled.
If Nintendo would’ve build hype like MS and Sony are then things would look much better and if they’d clear up the confusion about it being a Wii add-on then they’d have sold a lot more.
“Most PS4 commercials like for Assassins Creed, Batman or CoD makes the
game look exclusive, because it shows the game and the console as a
still image at the end, smart move, Nintendo should do the same.”

I’ve noticed this too, they should follow suit or do an add which is a reel of all the games Wii U has – many of which being the hotly anticipated next gen games (CoD, AC, Watch Dogs) should get a ton of people interested in Wii U.

As for “they would rather make the most money of every console sold, than to sell the most consoles.” whether or not that’s what they’re aiming for it’s a silly idea really. Nintendo are wealthy enough to spend a bit of cash on marketing without worrying about bankruptcy. If they advertise properly then they’d restore confidence in Wii U, get more people on board, and sell more consoles. Even though they take a loss on each Wii U sold all these factors add up and equal more software sales for Nintendo which will cushion “the blow” to their finances and it would pay off in the future a lot better.

  • Brandon

while everyone is bashing on me I’d think f-zero has a MUCH better chance at revival than star fox due to the remake NO ONE wanted. :P

    • larz_1234

I would love to see both of them get released!

      • Brandon

according to everyone else though it’s one or the other. sorry, can’t have both. :P oh and f-zero revival chances>starfox revival chances due to poor sales of the remake that no one wanted. (starfox 64 3D really nintendo? PEOPLE WANTED A “NEW” STARFOX GAME NOT A DAMN REMAKE!)

      • Guest

Same here, although we never really can tell if they’re coming or not. Although to be fair, STAR FOX 64 3D WAS a remake, yes. But it wasn’t a failure at all. It sold close to a million. I don’t recall Nintendo expressing disappointment over its sales. If anything, I remember them expressing disappointment with how the last F-ZERO fared, and that was like, what, during the GC years?

        • Brandon

of course the remake failed! >=( it was not enough to warrent a f*cking new game starfox is dead! get over it! f-zero chances>starfox chances! why? f-zero fanbase is going up while starfox’s fanbase is going way down! >=(

          • Guest

You don’t know anymore than I do. Give up already on trying to convince me otherwise.

          • Brandon

            I have proof on that!

          • alex toschi

haha what? if anything they are both going down unfortunately. Us Nintendo fans are just getting older, those IP’s are in the current game market, Nintendo needs to breathe new life into both of them or create new ones.

          • Gabrielsen

As long as Miyamoto lives, Starfox lives. Nintendo would never have been this much of a success without Miyamoto and Starfox is his favorite franchise.

  • Matt

I finally bought one yesterday!!! Chapters stores in Canada have the Zelda Bundle on for 210$

    • mark

That was an awesome price – you scored a great deal!

  • Edward Hill

I don’t think nintendo has a chance of winning this console generation I do, however, believe they can still turn things around. They’ve just been so arrogant this console generation, first they make a mistake with the naming of the 3ds. Do they learn from their mistake? No, the make the same one with the wii u. They also implement the touch pad for some stupid reason thinking it would a be a huge draw the road ahead will be hard, as soon as the hype for the one and ps4 die down things should pick up for them. I’m reluctant to buy a wii u as of yet, but as soon as more details about X arrive I may be more inclined to pick one up.

    • MujuraNoKamen

If they had a chance they’ve blown it but that doesn’t mean they can’t bounce back. I agree, their arrogance has bit them on the ass. They thought the Gamepad (which is a great idea BTW) would be enough to sell system like the WiiMote did for Wii in 2006 but hasn’t, and the name has hurt sales too. It wouldn’t be problem if they’d do an ad specifying what Wii U is but they won’t.

  • Cahone

I’m still waiting for a Wii U ambassador program. The system will soon be selling at 250$ with actual games attached, and most of us bought at 350, AND have had to go through an entire year of no games worthy of purchase.

    • Zuxs13

Welcome to buying a new console when it first comes out. It’s been that way since the 80’s.

    2 millon consoles a month ? I suspect a massive price cut.

  • uPadWatcher

Wii U sales have really picked up over the last 3 months, thanks to games such as Pikmin 3, Zelda Wind Waker HD, and Super Mario 3D WORLD.

  • Kaleb

Refreshed this one minute, refreshed it 5 minutes later, then bam! News hahaha

This is a little of topic, but since Nintendo has been so slow on making a Miiverse app i have made one myself: https://www.dropbox.com/s/5n29fw4e877r70f/miiverse.apk

“Wii U sales have really picked up over the last 3 months, thanks to games such as Pikmin 3, Zelda Wind Waker HD, and Super Mario 3D Land.”

Super Mario 3D Land is available on Wii U?

See, this is why I hate the name “Super Mario 3D World”. People keep mistaking it for the 3DS game, even if they already mentioned the name before in the article.

  • Daniel Trew

Here’s a way you can help to make the Wii U more eye-catching and help more people buy it at your local video-games or any other store that sells the Wii U and games:

Line all the BEST Wii U games like Super Mario 3D World and The Legend of Zelda WindWaker HD at your eye-level or the eye-level of the majority of people you see, and wait and watch until people start noticing the great games that the Wii U has for offer that pops out at you first.

I did this at my local GameStop and I watched just SOOO many people start looking at it, and before you knew it, I saw at least 3 kids begging their parents to buy a Wii U, instead of a PS4 or XBox One, and one even ended up buying one, and they had a massive smile.

Help Nintendo sell more consoles and help your community of fellow Gamers be able to see the great offers of this wonderful and innovative but sadly slow-selling console. Give it some love, and also spread the word of this trick!

    WII U FOR THE WIN!!!

Can we just wait for half a month before drawing any conclusions about sales numbers?

I mean – why would we assume the sales data of any website that mutliplies single chain numbers by the total amount of chain in a region to reach an estimate that is often wrong while we can wait until the 30th and get the actual number of units sold straight from the source:

    http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/sales/hard_soft/index.html

Regardless, I think the math in above article is… off – the tally was 3.9 on the end of September.

The 0.2 in America in November alone makes it 4.1. It seems the writer is simply doubling this number to include Europe; I’m not sure how accurate this is. Then there is Oktober… not to mention sales in Asia.

If the number is accurate, 0.4 million in 2 months doesn’t seem very good compared to other consoles both current and past.

Intelligent & fun is more important than dull & powerful.

That’s one opinion. Frankly, for me, no console right now has nearly enough selection just yet. I can’t aptly call the Wii U overall as “fun” just yet when there are only about 3 games for it currently available that I’d buy and play. Hopefully, next year will prove a different case. Though, I have to say, Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts 3 on PS4 certainly didn’t look “dull” to me.

No, but Flower and Knack are Boring as Hell today. And, those are the games out NOW. How is buying a PS4 based on the Belief that better games will come better than picking up a WiiU? I’d get a WiiU and 1.Nintendoland 2.NSMB 3.Luigi Bros 4.Wonderful 101 5.Pikmin 3 6. Wind Waker 7.Mario 3d Land

Looks to me that Nintendo has all the quality First party games this holiday season

Anyways, dude, my only point was that Kristian Kouvo’s point was terribly subjective, and overgeneralized.

More realistically, the Wii U’s not faring much better than the PS4, in terms of current games. In terms of upcoming games, we can list a total of about 4 major games: SSB, Zelda, “X” and Bayonetta 2.

Other than these titles we knew about about 1-2 years ago, we have no real forecast of Wii U games. Sure, I can name smaller games and upcoming Kickstarter indie title ports galore, but I’m talking about solid AAA games. Not tie-me-overs and games I can beat in a day.

I can’t do optimism as well as some here can. I’ve been a Nintendo fan longer than some here have been alive, but it doesn’t mean that when I say, “Nintendo’s offering is generally boring right now,” that I’m necessarily against them.

I just expect much better from Nintendo, as we should. They promised more with the Wii U, and so far, we ain’t got it. Not so much as even a mere announcement of new projects. It’s like Nintendo’s still struggling to enter the modern pace of game development or something.

I won’t be surprised if all they have for us next year is just Super Smash Bros. and Zelda, which while I’ve been waiting for those, just two games–even potentially great games–aren’t enough.

I agree I don’t think any console is 100% amazing right now but the only one that is possibly justifiable as of now (aside from 3DS of course) is Wii U. Right now it’s got a few solid exclusives – not all of them will be everyone’s cup of tea but Pikmin 3, LCU, MH3, W101, Mario 3D World and Wind Waker HD make for an impressive list. It has the best games from XBO and PS4 right now (CoD and AC4) and DK, Kart and Watch Dogs are coming next year. By the end of 2014 we should have X, B2, SMT/FE and maybe even Zelda providing Nintendo learns its lesson from he delays we’ve had :)

That’s fair. Though, just for me personally:

          ○ As fun as they may be, I personally wouldn’t qualify Lego City Undercover, Super Mario 3D World and Wind Waker as justifiable reasons to lay down $300 on a Wii U, plus an extra controller, plus a game.

          ○ I’ve already played Monster Hunter 3 and Wind Waker, so they’re more like afterthought purchases rather than immediately-motivating reasons to buy a Wii U with me, when they’re not full price.

          ○ I love Fire Emblem, but I’m still not crazy about this crossover with Shin Megami Tensei. I love FE just the way it is, so I’m a bit iffy when it comes to tampering with Fire Emblem.

Though, it’s not just so much a matter of money, though, as it is a matter of buying something when it’s most valuable. Few of the current games available have a high re-playability factor to them, and can only play them for so long.

          ○ You can beat Pikmin 3 in about a day or two, granted it does have some re-playability with multiplayer and DLC, but sadly, it lacks online multiplayer, which would’ve really helped.

          ○ The Wonderful 101 is one game I’d buy, but again, it’s very short, and likewise, features no online multiplayer. Again, that’s a real bummer.

          ○ The exact same story with Super Mario 3D Land. Seemingly decent gameplay that’s too short and has no online multiplayer. You see a pattern here?

I’ll probably feel the value of a Wii U much more when Super Smash Bros releases next year.

Otherwise, if I bought a Wii U now (or worse–had I bought a Wii U at launch as I originally desired), I’d beat the few games I actually care about currently on Wii U, and it’d just otherwise be sitting in a corner collecting dust until later next year.

As for the upcoming games, I’m for sure excited about SSB and Zelda, but I’ll have to see more actual gameplay before I can make a call about “X.”

And sadly, what’s worrying me is that we might see yet another year of minimal announcements from Nintendo. We might just see another repeat of this year’s rather less-than-stellar lineup.

Usually, when a new game is in development, you hear at least some sort of announcement about it, but so far, Nintendo’s been completely silent on the issue, and so have all second- and third-party devs.

Nintendo rarely just drops a bunch of news about top-secret games they didn’t at least announce before. It seems like only SSB and maybe a new Zelda trailer will be all that leads 2014.

I’m not a big PlayStation fan (while I’ve played PS2, I haven’t actually owned a PlayStation since the PS1), but at least I know the PS4 will be highly-supported, if nothing else.

I know it hasn’t announced the biggest list yet, but granted, it has only been announced like ten months ago and released just a few weeks ago. And at least I know KH3 and FF15 won’t be the ONLY big games coming to PS4 eventually–support for PS4 is very large, so chances are, more will come, in plenty.

At least Sony’s excuse is that the PS4 just got here. Meanwhile, it’s been one whole year since Wii U launched and two years since it was announced, and we’re heading towards 2014 with still no major new announcements so far. I’m just a little worried I may not have reason to buy a Wii U until late 2014.

Correction to the article: “Wii U sales have really picked up over the last 3 months, thanks to games such as Pikmin 3, Zelda Wind Waker HD, and Super Mario 3D World.”

At my retailer, Wii U NSMBU Bundle and SMB3DW seems to be selling pretty well.

  • wiimenonowiiu

Love my wii u since day one, its about time tho they have a much needed line up long summer lol i love xmas time all the best games come out

  • Ice Climbers

For next year, Nintendo should offer many options in terms of bundles. Not just bundling games with the system, but also bundling controllers with games. If they bundle a Pro Controller with Smash Bros for $70, with the game itself for $60, expect some massive sales.

  • starwars360

Oh John!!! It is not Super Mario 3D Land. It is Super Mario 3D World.
Good to see Wii U improve sales just like PS Vita. :)))))))))))))
