Are SNES games finally coming to 3DS virtual console? [RUMOR]

The 3DS was recently updated to allow the glorious Miiverse. However, an image has surfaced showing off a Miiverse community for Contra III: Aliens Wars. What’s significant here is that Contra III is a Super Nintendo game and currently there are no SNES games on the Nintendo 3DS virtual console. Also, no other SNES Wii U communities showed a Nintendo 3DS in the header image,  instead they show the Wii U GamePad.

This could potentially mean that SNES games are on their way to the system. Early in the Wii U Miiverse there were several games leaked that turned out to be true. I for one would love to have the Super Nintendo console library available on the go, while many others hope that Nintendo will eventually allow Cross Buy support for virtual console releases so that you own them both on Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS.

What do you think of the SNES possibly being on 3DS virtual console? What SNES games would you like to see?

I sure hope they release SNES games on the 3ds! If they are going to they should have done it before releasing A Link Between Worlds and debuted it with A Link to the Past.
    Yea…

    • Pikachief

They still havent put up A Link to the Past on the Wii U VC in America and didn’t do it in Europe until recently.

Even if they did have SNES games on 3DS before A Link Between Worlds they probably wouldn’t have had A Link to the Past up yet.

If Nintendo allowed the games you have downloaded on the Wii U vitrual console on the 3ds that would be AMAZEBALLS! I would have super metroid, super mario world, link to the past, etc. on my 3DS!!!

    • Sdudyoy

Agreed, I think with the ability to link Nintendo Network accounts you should be able to link purchases, so you can buy a Wii U game on 3ds away from your house and then It would start downloading on your Wii U, and if there is a game both consoles can play like Metroid or possibly a game like Monster hunter 3 ultimate as that game was on both consoles, then you should be able to download it on both consoles.

      • Daniel Brown

Yeah, if they did that though, they’ll have to reimburse everyone who bought the same game on the two different systems.
        Which isn’t a bad idea…

        • Mason742

It’d just never happen. Even if it did, reimburse means they’ll give you a “discount”. 1 dollar to upgrade to Wii U!

      • Jeffery02

Tbh, I wouldn’t mind if just by owning BOTH copies that they would allow you to transfer game saves. A discount would be great and a free copy on one with the purchase of the other would be better, but not needed, for me at least. They only thing I really want from them is the ability to transfer saves of the same game between the 2 systems. I have the ambassador program, and if I knew that I could transfer my saves between those 3DS downloadable VC games and the Wii U versions of the same games, then I would feel more inclined to get the Wii U ones. ESPECIALLY if they are free or at a discount.

COULD EARTHBOUND FINALLY BE COMING TO 3DS?!

    • MujuraNoKamen

OMG yes that would be amazing! I’ve already got it on Wii U and it was brilliant. I feel bad for 3DS owners who cant play it.

  • Ducked

N64 ports to 3DS would be nice too

    • [000]

It’d be awesome if Nintendo could hire a team specifically for doing that.

      • Ducked

Agree, I’d love to see Super Mario 64, Majoras Mash, Donkey Kong 64, and others join Star Fox 64 and Ocarina of Time

  • TheWichi

Cross buy please Nintendo!!! that would make people who own a 3Ds want to have a Wii U to play their games in a TV screen or in the gamepad!!

    • Tecpedz94

It was also be cool if i can play 3ds games on my big tv by wirelessly connecting to the wiiu? I dunno it sounds cool to me.

      • Jeffery02

Why not release an adapter that allows you to connect either 3DS systems or games to the Wii U GamePad through the expansion port? 3DS Player anyone?

  • Thomas Vienna

I’m gonna call “fake” on this one, I just have that feeling. This rumour shows up right after 3DS get a big update. In my experience, rumours always surface after something similar happens, because that’s what gives someone the idea to start spreading it.

  • MewThree28

I remember there was a leak in the Eshop a while back that showed Wii U VC on the 3ds

  • Tecpedz94

I am looking forward to GBA games as well!!!

    • Jeffery02

Too bad that they announced that the GBA games are only going to be on the Wii U VC. I don’t understand why though.

  • Henry Hotspur

Contra 3 in my pocket? I WOULD BUY THAT SHIT DAY ONE. Please be true.

  • Christian Schoff

    Zombies Ate My Neighbors please?

  • Jaiden Edmonds

    When will SMB3 be released?

  • Thomas Fitzgibbon

I really hope the N64/GameCube library comes to Wii U VC…

    • Jeffery02

I know that they want to put GCN games onto the Wii U VC. If they do it though, then I have no idea when it’ll happen.

  • werewolfhero

Well considering that you can get the PSN versions of PS1 games that you can use on ps3 and vita/psp it could be seen as trying to compete with that. And I know that there are *cough* hacks *cough* that allow playing snes games on 3ds’s that exist already so the console “can” support them, just for whatever reason Nintendo has chosen not to allow it themselves thus far, usually going the route of porting to the system as a rerelease, as done with just about all the FF titles and Chrono Trigger.

  • ETeach

If that’s true, it’d be nice for Nintendo Network to somehow link these games so we could own them on both the WiiU and 3DS. I’ve always felt like handhelds should stick to handheld VC games and consoles with console games, but mixing it up could be good too.

Instead, I think someone here is a pretty professional photo editor for low-res pictures, which are actually pretty hard to recreate.
