In a recent rumor perpetuated by a German website, a representative of Nintendo in Germany is said to have confirmed the Super Smash Bros. release date for some time in Spring 2014. We didn’t publish the rumor because there was shoddy evidence at best, but according to two recent tweets by developer Masahiro Sakurai, the rumor is false anyway.
Siliconera took time to translate two of Sakurai’s tweets in which he confirms that Super Smash Bros. does not have a solid release date in any quarter, only that it’s coming in 2014. Fans of the series can keep up with development on Miiverse and the official Super Smash Bros. site, where screenshots are released daily and roster updates occur frequently.
While this rumor squashing will undoubtedly make many fans disappointed the game isn’t coming in Q1, this is why it’s best to wait for official announcements.
