  • Mithiragi

    It’s DK guys.

  • Laud

Seriously, Nintendo missed such a huge opportunity. I’m disappointed.

    • Rob Lucci

It’s just a crappy award show tailored to “dudebros”. If this was E3 then you have a point.

      • Laud

No, I have a point. Reggie should not have hyped this up as much as he did. He should have just told us that it was DK from the beginning. This kind of thing brings fans up and seismic tosses them.

        • Forbsz

Reggie combined with all the nintendo fans on the internet all the posts on forums about what the game could be hyped this announcement up way to much…

        • Rob Lucci

He really didn’t “hype” anything. All he said they are going to show a already announced game, the internet just took it too far.

          • Laud

Yeah, and he refused to tell us what game it was. It wasn’t worth a damn character reveal. We were expecting to see an awesome head turner at the very least, not a character we knew was in the game since a week ago. Stop with the damage control, I’m a huge Nintendo fan but you have to realize that when they mess up, WE HAVE TO tell them they messed up otherwise they’ll never realize their faults.

          • Rob Lucci

It’s just an award show…it’s not like a Metroid game or any other game will turn Nintendo’s fortune around. You’re putting too much thought over something so little.

          • Laud

Who CARES about everyone else? I’m talking about US as fans. I would have LOVED to see something new, I don’t care about what these dudebros think. I was willing to deal with all the cringe just to see something awesome from Nintendo.

Why don’t you understand? This was horrible for them and for us. Stop acting like it isn’t a big PR deal.

          • Rob Lucci

Like I said it’s just an Award show, why would they reveal something “big” on a show that not alot of people are watching? New things will be shown in the future but tonight is not the time.

          • Laud

            NOT BIG?

            Dude…Do your research.

Even though these hosts suck and the listeners are idiots for the most part, they need people to buy the console.
Think what you want, but they messed up and that’s the truth.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Well, surprise for you! EVERYONE does the same. And yes, Zelda, Metroid or the like could have done the difference. Now Wii U is out. They made a joke out of it.

          • Zanzama

There are always counterarguments and calling something “damage control” for taking a valid defensive stance in an argument as if it is something to be ashamed of is merely useless slang-rhetoric. Nonetheless I can understand your point as far as the rest goes.

          • The Clockwork Being

A new look at a already announced game. Now how the fuck is that a new look. I am going to buy DK once I get a Wii U but how is this a new look. We get Cranky Kong oh wow. I could care less.

          • Rob Lucci

A new look as in a new level and character which was shown.

          • The Clockwork Being

Yeah true true but they build up the hype so much only for this. DK is great but it isn’t the game that Nintendo needed at this event. Oh and a new look at a previously announced game could have been much more. X, SMT X FE, Bayo 2, Smash Bros, Zelda U and more.

          • Rob Lucci

Like I said the time will come when they will show off those games plus more but tonight is not the night.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Hmmm… I always loved DK. But I think I will drop this one. I actually lost my interest now.

          • Rob Lucci

            I don’t care.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Good for you. Wish I could live in a bubble too, giving shit about reality. But Im not able to do so. Im very happy for you. :)

        • Guest

They shouldn’t have done the show at all if DK is all that was mentioned. They’ve just embarrassed themselves horribly, this was a golden opportunity to get some new people interested in Wii U with a Mature game like Zelda, Bayonetta, X, SMT/FE, a new IP, Eternal Darkness 2 but they thought a new playable character in DK would be enough to wow them.

    • GermGerm

Yeah they really blew it. Very disappointing. They are making some interesting decisions right now.

    • The Clockwork Being

Nintendo has lost their mind. Why announce Skull Kid now. Why tweet Zelda images. Why tease alot of Zelda things only to pull this shit. Nintendo has made me mad right now. So mad. No one can screw up bigger than this.

Now that the Nintendo hope for the day has died off in me, im more excited about the Division and other games over there.

      • Laud

You have no idea how bad I feel physically. I don’t even understand it myself but I have to find Geoff Keighley and make him EXPLODE.

        • The Clockwork Being

That Joel guy is being such a dick. Those murderous eyes Reggie gave him are so worth it. But oh well the awards seem like they suck anyways.

          • Laud

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH THE REVEAL IS ANOTHER TELLTALE GAME SOMEONE SHOOT ME THAT WAS MY LAST BET.

          • NintenScience

            lol

          • Laud

oh my god, Joel has to die.

Black smoke coming out of a uterus? This guy is off the wall, he must die.

          • The Clockwork Being

TBH the way the VGX is looking and the announcements that are there, I think the whole show was a: ”fuck you gaming community.”

I’m not sure what to do right now. For the next BIG announcement or the next Nintendo Direct my hopes will be terribly low unless they say they will talk about Smash Bros and other games I am excited for before hand.

          • Laud

IDK dude, I’m physically depressed some how. I didn’t think I would be this affected. I was so pumped for this show for some reason and now I just want to drink alcohol and cry.. I’VE NEVER DRANK ALCOHOL BEFORE IN MY LIFE.

          • Magnus Eriksson

To be honest… Nintendo made a joke out of themselves.

    • Jack5221

Honestly, I don’t mind. This show is awful to say the least. Nintendo gets a free pass on this one.

  • BGhp

    NINTENDO WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!

  • Rob Lucci

Reggie almost spilled the beans on a Metroid game. Should expect it in the next “big” direct or E3.

  • Graeme Lynch

Really? Is this a joke? What made NoA think it would be a good idea to show off DK at this? Faith in Nintendo dwindling.

    • Justin Clark

NoA and Reggie just do what Japan tells them to. And it was foolish of Nintendo fans to think it would be anything but DK. This falls in line with how they have promoted recent games, whichever one is out next that’s the one they talk about. I’m not thrilled with every decision Nintendo has made in regards to Wii U, but it’s time fans cut them a break. They are the only company that announces they’re going to show a game and the internet explodes with wild speculation, “Zelda that’s like Skyrim but better!” “Metroid X Starfox!” ” Pokemon MMO!” “StarTropics reboot that kicks Uncharteds ass!” Then Nintendo comes out and says ” No actually it’s this new game that comes out in two months, that we already announced and are trying to promote and people get pissed.” The Wii U is going to be out at least 4 more years it needs content for that amount of time. Every classic franchise might not be out in the first, what are we now 13 months. If they hold true to their promise and 2014 has a steady stream of games a lot of you guys will be singing a different tune.

      • Adam Porter

they’ve spinned us the same crap for the last 2 years, come on this is not a new development were nintendo fans are disappointed with nintendo

        • ItzameyaToad

No your right it’s not a new development for people to get too hyped for something and then blame Nintendo for it that has been going on for years. If you got disappointed that’s YOUR fault not Nintendo’s.

          • Adam Porter

it was supposed to be a debut, why keep it secret, they could have just said it was new DK info, but they know that noone is interested enough to tune in to a crappy show for that, so they keep it secret to build hype and it does matter if i’m disappointed i’m a fucking customer of theirs, without pleasing me and people like me they will have no business, so just think about for a fucking minute.

          • Justin Clark

All Nintendo ever said was new look at a game coming out. DK is the next game coming out. Judging how Nintendo has promoted their last few titles logically it makes perfect DK would be shown. But instead you and people like you read way to much into it and projected all kinds of bullshit expectations on it and now it’s Nintendo’s fault. They didn’t have some special website up with a countdown clock or some other crap. Just a press release saying check out new trailer.

          • ItzameyaToad

They even clearly said that it was new gameplay for a game coming out with an announcement. Yes they built hype but it was people like yourself who took it above and beyond with what you thought it would be. And I never said people like yourself didn’t matter I just said people like yourself get yourselves over-hyped then turn around and blame Nintendo for not revealing what you wanted. Get your panties out of the bind they are in and read my original comment. No where in my comment did I say your opinion didn’t matter just that it’s not Nintendo’s fault if you psych yourself out then get disappointed. Chill Brotha.

          • RecheD

This show stinks, in spite of all the best was donkey kong and quantumbrake , and all for a stupid confusion in the tweets we would have
            avoided seeing

          • Magnus Eriksson

Honestly… “Hyped up” means that it would be nice for to see Nintendo do one surprisingly clever thing with the Wii U and break the chain of idiotic decisions for a change. Well, didnt happen – again.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Lol, its Nintendo’s fault that they are failing – Not Adam’s. If he is disappointed over the fact that they are failing he has every right to feel that- especially since he is a supporter. The only one here to blame are Nintendo and their fanboys who are cheering on them when they destroy the company.

          • jjbredesen

Great point, i have tried to stay optimistic but i can simply no longer do so. If they do one more mistake i think they are going to get in to some major problems.

All i have to say is Zelda, Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros better be the best games i have ever played or i am done. I have been a Nintendo suporter since i was born. Grew up with the N64 and Gamecube. I have proberly spent close to 1000 hours on melee, but my faith is starting to diminish very fast :(

          • Magnus Eriksson

Yeah, know what you are saying. But the Smash and Mario Kart will be awesome, although not sure they will have the effect people are hoping for. Melee and Gamecube was a different game than Wii U and Brawls, the same goes for Mario Kart on Wii and Wii U. They will probably move SOME consoles, but at a very late hour. I dont think Donkey Kong will move that many consoles. For me it seems like Nintendo gave up on the Wii U long time ago. DK, MK8 and Super Smash Bros are really the only first party titles in the horizon. After that we dont know much, well there is this 2D Yarn Yoshi game… Im starting to think that this Zelda U is more talk than walk too. If they had anything they would have shown it at some point. Also if you read the things Eiji Anouma & Co have stated about it there clearly are a lot of self contradictions, pure BS and talk just to hype it up. Nintendo wont release a Zelda on Wii U unless they think its profitable, eventually doing like they did wit TP releasing it both on GCN and Wii U. If the Zelda U is to be pushed back as far as 2016 its quite a chance that excactly that will happen.

          • jjbredesen

Yeah i agree on a lot of what you say, but we will see the Zelda game at E3 i am sure, i don’t think Nintendo are that stupid….

They did say that they where going to show it in New York…but delayed it as usual.

          • ItzameyaToad

Im sorry but I don’t believe Nintendo is failing at anything not sure what crack pipe you’ve been smokin but the Wii U sales have drastically improved over the past month or so and the 3DS has takin a shit on the Vita and shut the Vita brownosers up so don’t see how they are failing. And like I said in the following comment after he got all mad at me for my comment you are responding to ” No where in my comment did I say your opinion didn’t matter just that it’s not Nintendo’s fault if you psych yourself out then get disappointed”

So you see if you would read all my comments fully you would see that I never said his opinion didn’t matter just that its his fault not Nintendo’s if he got too excited then disappointed.

        • Justin Clark

And why are any Nintendo fans upset with them right now? The 3DS just had one of the greatest years in gaming history (95% of which provided by Nintendo). And while yes the Wii U had a rocky start, but they just put out a legit game of the year, a really good Zelda remake, great Pikmin game, casual options with Wii Fit and Sports Club, and even a new IP ( you know one of those things Nintendo fans are so disappointed about) W101 and nobody could even bother to buy it. All told Nintendo has given a pretty good effort recently. It makes me more hopeful in the future.

          • Adam Porter

            blind fanboy

          • Justin Clark

Blind fanboy? Dude, I never bought a Wii because I hated the controls. I played PS360 all last gen, have always had a gaming PC, a xbox and ps2 to go along with GC. Never had a DS (bought a 3DS earlier this for FE:A and I had money) and admit there is a ton to criticize Wii U for. Marketing has been nonexistent until recently, they had the wrong 3rd party games at launch, NSMBU should have come in year 3 not day one, system could use some extra ram (visuals are fine especially considering costs) to make UI speedier, delays have really hurt, SSB should have been better planned and out by now. But the best Nintendo is one with their back to the wall forced out of their comfort zone, see 3DS, and Wii U has been picking things up considerably. So I’m willing to see what happens between now and E3.

        • Justin Clark

Why would Nintendo fans be disappointed in Nintendo right now? 3DS just had a Hall of Fame year, and Wii U after a rough start put out a legit game of the year, an incredible remake to one of the best Zelda titles, New Pikmin, exclusive Sonic, most of the big holiday 3rd party offerings, some casual download titles, and even a new IP W101 (you know one of the things their fans were so disappointed about, of course none of them bought it.) Nintendo fans are basically like the girlfriend from hell right now.
Edit: Disqus deleted my last post so I rewrote it… Then it showed back up.

          • Rinslowe

For me I’m not disappointed in Nintendo for the reasons you mentioned also. But definitely disappointed in a missed opportunity to create some exponential hype during this show. Everything everybody has said about their perception or lack of regarding their effective participation in VGX was right on the money. DK was not the game people wanted, so showing it was proving their sloppy due diligence on the matter.
It’s hard not to feel sorry for them today. But as you have said, they’re still sitting on a killer year for 3DS and Wii U has been picking itself up consistently for last few months. Ultimately, people will move on from this show in a couple of days time and it’ll be back to what we know already. With that, the only thing Nintendo needs to do in 2014 for a good year on Wii U is to ensure that confirmed titles are released in quick succession, or exactly to schedule. Wii U’s 2014 lineup looking absolutely stunning, IMO. But if they miss the timing on even one title, I think they’ll be dealing themselves a whole world of hurt.

          • Andrew W Garttmeyer

If this was nes first mis step, fine, but this is another in a long line of stupid decisions. just more fire for us to be disappointed and start losing trust. and where is my vc timeline!?

          • Rinslowe

I’m not going to defend Nintendo and stupid decisions. They’ve certainly made their fair share. But to be equally fair, so has the competition. And with the Wii U I can honestly name as many successes as I can failures….

      • Graeme Lynch

        Thanks for your comment Justin…
Firstly I don’t have to give Nintendo a break. They are a company that I have invested in by buying their console and games. Therefore I have a right as a consumer to be disappointed or complain when I feel the company I have invested in are not meeting my expectations.
Secondly Reggie was harping on about how this announcement was going to be some sort of special event. I wouldn’t call revealing Cranky Kong as a playable character this especially since it was already widely known to be the case days prior.
Thirdly it was simply a ridiculous decision on Nintendo’s part to showcase something on Spike VGX. Reason being is the market for such an event is not the market for DK:TF. Now I am not saying it won’t be a great game or anything but come on. It is just painfully obvious that this audience isn’t interested in that type of game and the attitude of the presenter proved this point.
As for 2014, I will wait and see, I have come to not expect much from Nintendo. I wouldn’t be surprised if half the games they say will be released in the year will be.

        • Justin Clark

I’m not suggesting Nintendo is above reproach from their customers, in a post below I outlined many of the problems I have had with Wii U. Maybe I just don’t see this as such a big missed opportunity as everyone else does. It’s a joke awards show that was on twitch tonight. I didn’t watch all of it admittedly, but from what I saw and have read DK might have been the highlight. When it was said that no one from Japan was going to be there it was time to temper expectations. That ruled out Zelda, Bayonetta, Smash, and X. Nintendo wasn’t going to show those without their developers present. All that was left for a big announcement was Prime 4. Yes that would have been amazing, but Nintendo’s not going to show that while Retro is working on another game. So they showed the game Retro was working on. It might be the wrong audience and Nintendo might be barking up the wrong tree but it feels like they are trying to turn DK back into that top tier type game. Maybe times have changed to much from when DK was winning console wars, but it used to appeal to that type of demographic.
My post was a broad reaction to all the doom and gloom Wii U talk going on right now. Nintendo just put out a GOTY Mario game and a couple weeks later everyone is down on them again. I got the feeling going into VGX that N fans wanted them to show a game that they could rub their PS4 and X1 friends’ noses in on message boards. For me they showed a good game it comes out in a couple months and I’m going to play it.

        • RockieOllie

          I whole heartedly agree!

      • The Clockwork Being

Well I really didn’t know what to expect at first but hey look. They reveal Majora’s Mask for Super Smash. They tweet Zelda stuff. Do a bunch of Zelda related stuff and then troll us. They were leading us on so much only for this. I love DK as much as the next guy but still at VGX thats not the game Nintendo needed to show right now.

        • Justin Clark

They weren’t going to do anything Zelda related with Reggie and not Aonuma.

        • Akatosh

The games coming out in a couple months. They don’t need to advertise it? Really? Is that what you think?

Truth is one person heard another person scream, “they’re gonna show Zelda!” And everyone fell for it. Not particularly based on any facts. The “proof” you’re using is rationalization.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Yeah, DK is coming out in a couple of months. And people seems reeeeeally interested in that… (sarcasm)

          • Akatosh

Yeah, no one seems interested, suggesting they probably need to advertise it and make people interested in it.

I personally never get interested in a game until I’ve seen trailers for one.

Also worth noting Reggie said all this year they’re focusing on more casual fans, so we really, really shouldn’t have expected anything.

          • Magnus Eriksson

            advertising… lol

          • Akatosh

I saw 5 Wii U commercials just yesterday, 1 two days ago, and also saw a Wii U commercial during the Macy’s Parade time slot (an EXCELLENT place for an advertisement).

      • Magnus Eriksson

It would be reasonable to show something from Zelda, Metroid or something like that at this event. Not DK.

        • Ice Climbers

It’s clear that Zelda is being saved for E3, which is infinitely more important than the VGX. Same goes for Metroid if it is being made right now. Those two would be highlights of E3, which is going to be very important for Nintendo. Especially with many of the competitors’ games now known to be coming in the second half of 2014, which means that they will be shown off again at E3 over brand new games. Bayonetta 2 and Mario Kart 8 may be coming before E3, but DK still has that “cool” aspect that Kart lacks (Mario Kart is still awesome), while Bayonetta might have re-pissed people off because of it being Wii U exclusive.

    • tronic307

The kicker was the Metroid trolling =[

      • Graeme Lynch

Don’t even! The whole thing was just urgh. The banter between Reggie and the presenters was just major cringe.

      • Simon Stevens

        I love this!

    • RockieOllie
    • Rinslowe

I don’t know about faith dwindling, at least not for me. But absolutely! Surely they must have known DK???? Yikes….

    • val berger

everytime reggie is teasing something, it’s just not interesting. only if Nintendo Japan is announcig something, it should be worth our time. But yeah, it’s really sad Nintendo missed another chance to stand out, christmas is coming and they should at least have announced something to show potetial customers another reason to buy a WiiU.

    • Nate

The sad thing is they probably don’t have anything else to show. It reminds me of when Reggie went on Jimmy Fallon’s show last fall to show off the Wii U and all he shows is Nintendoland. Huge lost opportunity.

  • Adam Porter

it was donkey kong, so who cares now like, how was this a fucking debut, 2D fucking sidescrolling platforms!!!! i ‘m sick of 2D fucking sicescrolling fucking platformers!!!!

  • Forbsz

So disappointing unless reggie is going to come back later nintendo is really struggling there console is failing anyone who says it’s doing okay now is lying to themselves because it’s not so I really hope they come back out with another game cause that was pathetic sure donkey kong is a great game but not for vgx…

    • José Abraham Cervantes Posadas

I think that Tropical Freeze must be an excelent game, but not for everyone, we want a new Zelda or Metroid Prime

  • http://www.youtube.com/azhood321 AZHood

Shame the reveal was DKC:TF, but seeing how bad VGX is, it could have been worse.

  • http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008SRISGU#reader_B008SRISGU Adam Howell

I wanted Zelda… this show is of no interest to me. Also, I love the old thief games. Even thief 3. Wish thief was coming to the Wii U… But it’s not.

  • jreed3842

What was the reveal exactly? I can gather it was about Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze, but… what info did we get?

    • Jayce

      Cranky Kong.

      • jreed3842

Oh, well… We already kind of knew that. … But good to know, I guess… How… disappointing.
        Thanks for informing me, though.

  • GermGerm

Well to make a negative into a positive the visuals DID look really nice for Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze…

  • Forbsz

Nintendo has officially showed they are out of touch and don’t know what the gamer’s want. I am a huge Nintendo fan but this is a flat out joke. DK, at this event, are you kidding, I mean come on, Zelda, X, any game that appeals to the core gamer or hard core type gamer. Nintendo you are trying to show gamers that are not considering Nintendo at all to get a Wii U and DK was not the game to do that. I’m very disappointed but I’m not surprised.

    • JB

This was totally a time to show off Bayonetta 2 or X. Or even surprise us with Metroid or a new IP. DK looks great, but a 2D platformer isn’t exactly showing off what sort of muscle the Wii U can flex.

      • Forbsz

agreed X would of been amazing maybe even SMT x FE and nintendo fan boys keep defending nintendo my comment gets down votes because I speak the truth… why can’t the fans see they have been stuffing up a lot lately they defend them blindly.

        • Kameron Grayson

Honestly, I love Nintendo, but Donkey Kong had disappointed me. The new Zelda, is what I wanted. Why would they show us a delayed game?

        • Yousif Alromaithi

Man I am really pissed so I feel ya. My buddy told me about that and what happened on Spike Tv was really lame.

    • Rinslowe

Totally agree. I didn’t watch the show, but I don’t need to. I like Reggie as a personality but this…..this, was a genuine WTF moment. DK? Lol.

And still I look forward to this game!

    • tronic307

You’ve got to admit, though, the Cranky Kong fiasco upstaged the entire VGX show to the point of going viral and trending worldwide.

  • BGhp

If this is a joke then awesome/ but if its not the Nintendo would not care what people say about you because you deserve it

  • http://about.me/overlordror Ashley King

Twitch stream should be live and working now if you want to watch the rest of the show, though it’s cringe-worthy.

    • http://www.youtube.com/azhood321 AZHood

It’s always laughably bad. I stopped watching after DKC:TF. No way I’m sitting through hours of VGX just for a minutes of trailers and/or gameplay I can see later on.

      • Sdudyoy

        Yeah same here.

  • Ac7iVe

Ithink u guys missed the subtle hint of a confirmed metroid for Wii U . Seeing that metroid pin made this announcement ok with me

    • GermGerm

It’s just a pin. Don’t read into it too much….

      • tronic307

Either it was an Easter egg, or a colossal F.U. I’ll go with the slightly less cynical interpretation.

  • ShinyLatios

    I’m disappointed…….

  • Shagrath1983

this show is terrible I have never seen these awards and I am not going to after this. One actual host and a douche just sitting on a couch saying oh yea! game of the year is blah blah blah

    • JB

It all feels kind of awkward and the energy is severely lacking as if they are phoning it in.

  • Adrian

    What are the VGX awards?

    • http://www.youtube.com/azhood321 AZHood

      An award show for dudebros.

Realistically, it’s not something that’s held in high regard. Sometimes there is a surprise game announcement or two, but the rest of it is awful.

      • Adrian

        Haha, thanks.

  • JB

Not the game I would’ve shown, but oh well… The positives are that the game looks great and we may get some sort of Metroid announcement if him conveniently wearing a Metroid pin and almost saying a Metroid game is in the future means anything… *fingers crossed*

  • Shagrath1983

The tall host is really bombing this bad they just need to use cranky kongs cane and pull him off the stage, your jokes are bad and you should feel bad!

  • Zanzama

This show is generally a shitload of overhyped garbage if you ask me

  • verymetal

It is cringe-worthy and embarrassing. I just don’t understand all the hype and then show Cranky Kong.

    • FutureFox

Especially since the game was already suppose to be released but they delayed it. They could have shown anything else on that premise alone.

  • Super Buu

Yep, I can’t defend this. That was outright idiotic to show DK. Should’ve told us it was DK from the beginning. DK was the worst possible choice and they went with it. And this isn’t the first time this happened. As a Nintendo fan, I hate to say it, but Iwata and Reggie are absolutely out of touch with the gaming industry. Very disappointing.

    • Adam Porter

yea exactly why keep it secret, they could have just said they were showing DK, but i guess noone would have cared to watch then. smart DK advertising by nintendo such assholes

    • José Abraham Cervantes Posadas

I said a joke to a friend that Reggie would show Tropical Freeze, but my joke turn real :S

      • Sydney Ultrasyd

        It’s your fault :D

        • José Abraham Cervantes Posadas

          Hahaha, shhhhh

    • Xavier Lopez Chabelo

I knew this was going to happen!!!!

But my hype was so big that…. forget it!!!

    • jrob23

I agree, it is really hard defending the Wii U when they pull shit like this.

    • Logic

I’m calling it now, the next Nintendo Direct is going to focus on DK like what they did for TW101. :|

      • Magnus Eriksson

My thought too. Or maybe a DK special…

        • Logic

And maybe Superman 64 as the first N64 virtual console game on the Wii U.

          • Magnus Eriksson

            Yeah, amazing…

    • The Clockwork Being

For the next BIG announcement or the next Nintendo Direct my hopes will be terribly low unless they say they will talk about Smash Bros and other games I am excited for before hand.

    • Magnus Eriksson

Yup! This was one of the more stupid things they could have done. It only made Nintendo look even worse than they are. There will be no Wii U domination this christmas, but even more slandering and slamming. I think Wii U is done now. The train has left, and aint coming back.

  • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

IS SOMEBODY GONNA GET THAT PHONE?!

    BECAUSE I FUCKING CALLED IT

  • THEMIGHTYDOOVDE

    Oh well. Maybe next time…

  • Gameonfool

Oh Nintendo, you missed an oppertunity to show gamers that wii u can deliver. DK looks fun but x would have been better

  • José Abraham Cervantes Posadas

I was disapointed previously because of Tropical Freeze, and now, again happen me the same, this must be a joke!!!!

    (Nfan since 1987 aprox.)

  • jjbredesen

Dam :( i guess we will have to wait for E3 then :(

  • Simon Stevens

My reaction, never getting hyped again!

  • JWHO

I cant believe nintendo what a waist of my time there is no defending them at this point…they have to come back and redeem them selves that was soooooo sad

  • verymetal

It seems the hosts and creators of the VGX don’t take video games seriously and neither does Nintendo.

  • CMB

I just came onto see what happend and found out it was DK. Well I am not interested in anything else unless he has something else to announce.

  • Petri

    Pretty lame so far.

  • Xavier Lopez Chabelo

Im just waiting for those youtube videos XD

  • http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008SRISGU#reader_B008SRISGU Adam Howell

Grimfandango is one of my favourite games of all time. So looking forward to this.

  • http://www.mpt-online.eu/ Sylux

I’ll see later on what’s it all about, but the “uber important thing that they would show there” was Donkey Kong TF huh? So I missed nothing and they did exactly that what I predicted earlier this week huh.

O well I’m happy to be right, because Nintendo would not use an opportunity like this to their benefit by revealing actual new news/info/IP’S. They only show all we know already, so yeah I’m not dissapointed at all I said so all along ;) (I don’t like nintendo’s approach regarding WiiU at all though, but hey who am I?)

  • Zanzama

    What’s there more to say?
    We’ll get our Zelda someday, I guess…

  • Mithiragi

Reggie was trolling us with that Samus pin…

    • Kameron Grayson

I wanted a new Zelda, Metroid was my second option.

      • Mithiragi

With all the signs people were giving, I thought it was going to be Zelda. Metroid was my second thought. Overall, I’m disappointed. I guess we’ll just have to wait until the next Nintendo Direct.

    • MujuraNoKamen

Nintendo need to stop teasing and just come out all guns blazing and make everyone care about Wii U. Zelda would do that, Metroid, X and B2 wouldn’t have hurt either but Nintendo just went to a bunch of dude bros and said “the best we have to offer is an Ape with a beard” I’d have laughed them off stage of I could stop crying.
“Never mind guys, there’s always a direct” Yeah but who’s gonna watch it? Nintendo fans! No one else! Nintendo needs to broaden its audience or its going nowhere. VGX was the perfect place to do that but as I said, they told a bunch of people who don’t give a shit about E-rated games that DK is the best they can offer.
      Faith in Nintendo; dwindling.

  • Petri

    Game of Thrones…
Why am I still watching this?

I really liked TT Walking Dead, but if that was biggest reveal for VGX, then I should go to bed now.

  • Kameron Grayson

Maybe the other games weren’t ready to show? However, this was a huge disappointment to most Nintendo fans. Donkey Kong doesn’t sell consoles, and is not considered special to many Nintendo fans.

  • Patrick Starman

Honestly, were people surprised at this?
Nintendo ALWAYS hypes the games that are close to release, DK being the next one.
Reggie said they were going to show a closer look at an already announced game. It’s not his fault you guys overhyped it.

  • Rocket-Dragon

Nintendo… I love you guys, but this was extremely disappointing. I was’nt really expecting you to show a new Zelda, or any new game at all really, (would have been an awesome surprise though) but maybe show some more content from X, Bayonetta 2, SSB or even Mario Kart. I’m sure DK:TF is going to be a really fun game, but we’ve seen enough of that game already. You’re working with other stuff tooo right? Do you think people will get a Wii-U just for that game?

  • bizzy gie

I am looking at the guide for Spike and it says Cops is on right now.

  • MetroidZero

Totally forgot about this; was playing Mass Effect 2. Guess I didn’t miss anything. :(

  • Adam Porter

time to hit up nintendo’s facebook page and let them know how pissed we are.

  • ZeldaFanzzzz

    E3 2014

  • Justin Clark

F-U Nintendo! That’s what I say. How dare you show a trailer to the next game in one of the greatest franchises in gaming history. We fans want some gritty mature game, which is code for guns, gore, F-bombs, and tits… You know mature shit. We know you said Zelda at E3 and a lot of us haven’t even opened our Zelda Wii U bundles for Christmas yet, but you should have shown that game too. Actually you should have said it was a trilogy and shown trailers for all three…. And we want them all to be different at the same time too. Oh and show F-Zero next time. A game we never bought, but always cry about.

    • Adam Porter

shut up asshole, go lick nintendo’s ring somewhere else, we have a right to be disappointed. should change your name to reggie’s loo roll.

      • Justin Clark

Why because he didn’t show up to some bs award show that was being broadcast on twitch with new Zelda footage? I mean as soon as they said it was just Reggie there and none of the boys from Japan you had to know it wasn’t going to be some big reveal.

        • Zuxs13

Boys from Japan barely speak English, this is an American award show. And people are upset because they failed big time at appealing to an audience they have lost and can not afford too.

          • Justin Clark

That is a definite criticism to raise against Nintendo. They are a very insular company. Japan and Iwata will not let NoA make any kind of big announcements.

      • ETeach

    • John Andalora

You had the sarcasm at the beginning and had a nice spot to start from, but lost it the second you said “gritty mature game.”

If you want to use sarcasm and make it work, make sure you understand what people are complaining about and use that to your advantage. You need to show how bad peoples complaints are by mirroring their complaints, getting some of them even on your side in the first sentence, then changing their expectations and showing them how whiny they are for complaining about something like that.

Here’s an example, starting with your first sentences.

“F-U Nintendo! How dare you show a trailer to the next game in one of the greatest franchises in gaming history. I can’t believe you would be so rude as to have the President of Nintendo of America go to this awards show and give us news about an upcoming title that a lot of people are interested in! I mean, why not show off a game that’s coming out in 6 months or more and get us hyped for that rather than trying to get us excited for each and every game as it comes out? SHAME ON YOU!”

Personally I agree with the complaints. But I like sarcasm.

      • Justin Clark

I’ve read many places fans complaining about wanting mature games. Also, one of the big complaints I’m hearing about this VGX DK thing was that this was the wrong audience. The Spike VGX crowd is the CoD, Battlefield, TLOU, GTA guys. I probably botched the timing of it, but why else doesn’t DK appeal to this crowd. If they would have shown the new Zelda and it featured WindWaker graphics people would have complained just as much. Hell this has been the major criticism leveled against Nintendo since the original WindWaker was announced. That they were this family friendly company that made kiddy games.

        • John Andalora

I suppose I just looked in the wrong places.
A lot of the complaints I’ve seen about this involve people talking about how there could’ve been so many other things announced, and how the info that was given was a complete waste of time.

Those complaining about mature games are typically somewhat satiated with X or Bayonetta 2.

          • Justin Clark

The VGX as a whole this year was kinda a complete waste of time. And yes Reggie being there felt kinda arbitrary, but what else would they have shown honestly? Zelda isn’t getting revealed anywhere before E3. Bayonetta is a niche game that failed PS360. X maybe, but it is still a JRPG that doesn’t exactly play the Spike VGX crowd. And there is no way they show Prime 4 before DK is out. Smash is probably their one title with enough crossover appeal to have really made an impact, but they weren’t going to send Reggie without Sakurai showing it off in Japan first. DK was the only thing going in that I was expecting from Nintendo.

          • John Andalora

            Here’s the thing:
The people watching the VGX aren’t gonna try to defend Nintendo. They aren’t gonna say “well, they couldn’t show A because of B.” They’re gonna say “What, that’s it? I don’t even want this system!” The other game that you didn’t mention that they could’ve shown was MK8, talk about some new characters or show how the gamepad was going to function with it.

But honestly, I think the fact that they only showed Cranky Kong and DK, it shows that they don’t understand the audience that they were trying to capture. They think the audience studies everything on Nintendo and knows all the other stuff anyways. They think that they will all prefer a platformer to a more action filled game.

            They don’t and don’t.

            That’s my concern.

          • Justin Clark

I don’t want to come off like I don’t understand the concerns. Trust me, I was just as pissed as everyone else watching how Nintendo handled themselves at the two prior E3s. I’m just not sure if there is anything in Nintendo’s arsenal, short of a TP style Zelda or Prime 4 (which we don’t even know if they are making), that would capture the VGX audience. Even with those I have my doubts. Nintendo consoles are sporting the two best holiday games this year and it still isn’t slowing down the twins from selling ( I have a PS4 btw). Also, when viewed in the context of what else was shown this year DK was one of the best games.

I thought about Mario Kart and maybe that would have gone over better, but how much better. Also, platformers are kinda Nintendo’s bag so those that don’t prefer them are going to be disappointed with a good chunk of the library. I kinda saw this as Nintendo just showing and trying to build a little free hype for the next game on their schedule. A game being made by a 2nd party developer who not too long ago was being glossed the next Rare. And from Nintendo’s perspective the game they were showing is a sequel thats original sold ( according to VGchartz so take it for what you will) about 6 million copies. in contrast TLOU has sold 3.5 and Uncharted 2 6.15 million. So DK is a top tier AAA game. Was it the right one to show? I don’t know. I just don’t think it did as much harm as people are saying.

  • Luna Moonfang

VGX was so freaking bad it made me come back to WiiU Daily just to post how bad it was. By Selemene…

  • Dodge Pribyl

Worst. Award Show. Ever. And not just because no Zelda. Though that didn’t help.

    • Sdudyoy

In all honesty Zelda deserves more than a stupid Award show.

      • CMB

E3 is where it should be shown

        • Adam Porter

don’t you know that nintendo doesn’t really do the whole big e3 event anymore, wasn’t DK the big announcment for e3 this year??

          • CMB

still doesn’t mean they wont unveil it at e3.Most likely they are.

  • fireheartis1

I’m I the only one here who is very excited about the new DK footage? I mean come on that new footage was freaking awesome people. Too bad most of you are too butt hurt to realize it.

    • ItzameyaToad

I agree I liked the gameplay alot and wasn’t disappointed really granted I wish there was maybe a small teaser or something but I am still happy with what we got.

    • Justin Clark

Agreed. That game looks very good. With this, MK, hopefully Bayonetta 2, SSB hitting by E3 WiiU has a nice lineup for early 2014.

    • Zuxs13

really? the game looks bad, sorry but it just looks boring.

    • tronic307

It looks good, sure, and I’ll be getting it day one, but Nintendo needs to stop focusing so much on just the three month window games. Nintendo once showed games up to 2 years before release but they’ve switched to an information blackout for the Wii U. Does any of us feel that this is an effective strategy?

Pitching the next big game is good for the game, but when you can count the known future exclusives on one hand, it builds little faith for the future of the console.

We need to see some light at the end of the tunnel right now, no short term hype. It gets tiresome seeing Reggie posturing like Nintendo is king of the world when the opposite is becoming more apparent with each new lackluster development.

Most Nintendo fans haven’t bought a Wii U yet; there can’t be only 4 million of us. The games Nintendo have released are good, but save for SM3DW, they’re just not system sellers. These games feel like titles that would be released at the tail end of a console’s lifecycle, that sell when you already have a huge installed base, as if the Wii U was meant to continue rather than succeed the Wii. The trouble is: the Wii was already over before the Wii U was announced and everybody’s let it go but Nintendo.

  • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

The DK footage was fine even though a little underwhelming but I stopped the streaming because the show was boring and uneventful.

  • majora :D

Ok I might get downvoted, but seriously? Donkey Kong? I know that games do not need to be “mature” to be good, but this was a spoiled opportunity. The people who came to watch this are mostly gamers not interested in Nintendo because it doesn’t have so many mature games, it was the perfect opportunity to showcase something like X or Bayonetta, but if you show to them DK is like giving a kid a math book for Christmas and expect him to be delighted. I hate those CoD fanboys, but definitively Nintendo missed the point of having a segment in a “hardcore” event like this.

  • Alexander Kleinwechter

Besides that we were a bit dissapointed that they only showed DK, the rest of this show sucked, worst show ever. DK was like the highlight in VGX for me. I really hope nintendo has a future direct coming soon!

  • Mithiragi

    • majora :D

with pain in my heart, I must upvote you :(

    • Thomas Vienna

      Thanks for that link.
Wow, that was tense! The hosts knew that the reveal was not enough for the fans. I couldn’t tell if they were just trying to get more information out of him, or if they were just mocking him.

      • Mithiragi

Yeah the hosts were practically begging Reggie to say something Metroid related.

        • jrob23

right? they were like “are you SURE you don’t have anything else to announce..?” and he stammered and stuttered, “you guys are never happy, you always want more”. Such fail :(
Though, that Metroid pin most assuredly was a tease

          • Mithiragi

That pin was trolling at it’s finest.

          • Magnus Eriksson

            Awkward moment at its worst.

          • Mithiragi

            The whole show was awkward.

      • Guest

They where dickheads clearly being themselves haha anyone who expected Nintendo to drop a bomb on this joke of a show kind of deserves to be disappointed and I really kind of wish Reggie could of had a cane to beat them over the heads as they definetely deserve it.

    • jrob23

great video. But shouldn’t you be shooting MIB 4?

      • Mithiragi

lol that’s not me. That’s shokio. You should sub to him. He’s a true Nintendo fan, not a fanboy. He does kinda look like Will Smith lol.

        • jrob23

ha ha yeah he does. And he sounds a lot like him!!

        • bizzy gie

          Mixed with BlackBuster.

      • Suraj Alexander

The first time I saw his video I thought “Will Smith likes playing Nintendo games?!?!!”

    • fireheartis1

Nintendo gets it you fanboys don’t. I love Shokio but man this video is just butt hurt all away around. The Cranky Kong announcement did make since. Many of those people watching wanted to play as Cranky Kong since the original Donkey Kong Country. Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze is a wanted game, and many people are waiting for it, so for them to show the Cranky Kong announcement was amazing.

      • sdmac200600

No…just no…VGX was on spike. You know what the target audience is for spike? ADULTS meaning VGX was geared towards dude bro gamers. They don’t give a crap about DK…If they were gonna announce this, they shouldn’t have even showed up. Reggie even said in the stream that they knew that people knew what they were gonna show TF yet they still showed it like idiots. They had the perfect opportunity to show something completely different that would be more appealing to dude bros that isn’t a platformer.

        • NintenScience

          Oh, the stereotypes…

          • sdmac200600

it isn’t a stereotype when it’s a fact…Are you gonna sit here and say that the majority of gamers that watch spike are not dude bro gamers?

        • Akatosh

With that kinda audience it woudn’t have mattered what they showed anyways. Closest thing would have been Bayonetta 2, and my personal opinion is anything but that.

          • PS4/WiiU

no, many people from that audience especially love games like Zelda and Super smash. Besides those 2, I don’t think any other games.
Well there is X and bayonneta 2

          • Justin Clark

DKCR sold more than Bayonneta and Skyward Sword combined.

          • DragonSilths

Just cause it had been a long time since the last DK game. If Starfox was made instead or F-Zero even the same big sales would have happened.

          • Justin Clark

You can’t say that for sure. It was a long time in between Metroid releases and you know what DK out sold the entire Prime trilogy. It also sold more than TLOU, and equal numbers to Uncharted 2. I could look more examples because at 6 million there are plenty. Regardless of how much time has gone by Nintendo would like this game to do 6 million or more with each subsequent release. Full disclosure my numbers are from VGchartz if you think they are bs feel free to say so.

          • DragonSilths

I can say that for sure. Just look at how many people out there want Starfox.

          • PS4/WiiU

But most of them were not hardcore gamers (who watch VGX) And most of them are kids in my experience

          • Akatosh

Come on, Zelda? The game that has a track record for looking like, A. Wind Waker, or B. Skyward Sword?

          • PS4/WiiU

But it doesn’t change the fact that alot of hardcore gamers love zelda

        • Nintedward

DKCR was a really difficult game that could only be described as ”hardcore” imo… And it sold like 7 million copies, so a lot of people will naturally be interested in the sequel.

Whilst I agree that Nintendo should of shown something a bit more grandiose like X or something, Tropical freeze looks like an amazing sequel to an amazing game made by Retro studios. What’s the problem???

Also Nintendo will be having a HUGE Wiiu direct sometime soon, maybe in January like they did last year,

          • Nintenjoe82

Anyone with half a brain knew the announcement wouldn’t be a surprise major announcement of something nobody knew about. The reaction to this is embarrassing. With MK and Smash not coming til at least spring, it’s obvious there’s no Zelda announcement coming this year.

          • PS4/WiiU

            There’s also X, Bayonneta 2 and Miyamoto’s new IP

          • Justin Clark

Aonuma said Zelda at E3. Don’t know why people thought that meant VGX.

          • DragonSilths

He said we will see Zelda at E3. He never said we wont see anything about it before E3. Most likely gameplay and release date at E3. But a CGI trailer and name reveal at a big January Direct.

          • sdmac200600

Zelda is pretty much confirmed Zelda is gonna be announced next year because themselves said that they were gonna show it at the past E3 but they decided against it. That means the game is in showable form so it’s pretty much confirmed We will get a look at zelda during 2014 but the VGX would have been the perfect place to show it…

          • Jack5221

            All fans are mad:
Microsoft fans getting 5 seconds of Quantum Break gameplay.
Nintendo fans getting DK instead of Zelda.
            And Sony fans getting nothing.

Not only that, but the show itself was awful. Don’t get me wrong, DK looks really good, we got a release date and confirmed 4th character but it just didn’t live up to the hype. We were all expecting something else. Nintendo gets a free pass on this one, because other than the Ouya jokes and this announcement, the show sucked.

          • PS4/WiiU

Ya, but people were expecting other titles like Zelda or super smash which have better reviews and sales then donkey kong.
Which is why everybody is disappointed. Plus, they only confirmed a rumour. It wasn’t even something new.
And from my experience, they only people who bought country returns are little kids (which in the VGX doesn’t matter at all). In my opinion, the sales are only high because 100 million wii’s were sold, not because it’s a good game.

          • Nintedward

”the sales are only high because 100 million wii’s were sold, not because it’s a good game.”’

That’s ludicrous… The game sold a lot because it was AMAZING. You must not of played it if you are questioning whether its a good game or not, it’s one of the best games on Wii.

          • DragonSilths

Course the game is a good game. It was made by Retro. They cant make a bad game. Though for me I have 0 interest in DK. Never liked it even back in the SNES says. I have DKCR 3D and I beat it. But didn’t really enjoy it much.

          • PS4/WiiU

I bought it thinking it would be amazing because I love Donkey Kong but I ended up regretting it because I didn’t like it. But I’ve only finished world 1 so I guess you might be right. If I finished the game I might have liked it. But I still think that the high sales were not because it was a good game

          • jjbredesen

The game will be great, but you don’t show it at VGX, it could be a hard game, but i don’t see see they Spike target audiance picking up this game. I will get the game, but you do not hype something like this up and then show it at VGX.

A lot of people over hyped this and i did so a bit myself to, but it was at the wrong place at the wrong time.

          • Andrew W Garttmeyer

What is this ‘X’ game I keep hear being mentioned?

        • Gabe Hoffman

To be honest they would not have likely given a dang about X or Bayonetta either

I know, I understand…. but not on Spike for crying out loud !!! Have you seen that testosterone level ? VGX is as “manly and hardcore” as it gets. If they have nothing to show for that kind of audience then they shouldn’t attend. TBH I wasn’t expecting the new IP, maybe some HD remake, but I was 100% sure that that’ll show something new from X or Bayo. That would make perfect sense for that kind of show. I just wonder, was Reggie cranky because of this leak, which no one really cares about or because he was told to go to the VGX for the first time in Nintendo’s history and show new, exiting, mind blowing, mega hyped … Cranky Kong .

        • Rinslowe

True, DK will be a phenomenal title I’m almost 100% sure on that. But they misjudged this opportunity in stupendous fashion and “wrong place, wrong time” has never been more true than today for Nintendo’s decisions in 2013.
But at the end of the day Spike won’t effect Nintendo’s momentum negatively, in the same way it could have improved it and people will absolutely forget it a few days from now….

        • DK_Hadouken

You can’t get more manly and hardcore than DK.

I’ve seen to many reviews where people are extremely butt hurt because it’s “TOO HARD; THE WII MOTE+NUNCHUCK SUCK!”

      • PS4/WiiU

No, It was plain stupid in my opinion. Especially since everyone thought it would be super smash or Zelda or X. Nobody even cares about if they just added 1 character to a game that’s not even that good (compared to the other games). You are actually the only one I’ve seen so far that is actually happy about that announcement

      • Mithiragi

First off, I’m not a fanboy lol. Secondly, after seeing Cranky trending on twitter last night, I now think that it was a good move overall for publicity and letting people know when the game’s coming. I didn’t know that there were so many people waiting a long time to play as Cranky. They’ll probably show something new in the next Direct, hopefully.

    • Inviable Gaming

Whats wrong with DK. Country Returns was my 2nd favourite games of all time.

      • RockieOllie

Nothing is wrong with DKC returns, but announcing cranky kong as a ”special announcement” was gonna fall flat in the eyes most people. A teaser for a game like Zelda, Metriod, Smash or even Mario Kart seemed like an announcement with more substance

    • Magnus Eriksson

      Iwata and Reggie must go.

      • jjbredesen

Iwata should go not Reggie, he just does whatever Nintendo of Japan tells him. I am 100% sure that he did not want to go on there and talk about DK..

I hate to say this but Nintendo has failed me. I will still buy there games and systems, but dam they are just so fucking stupid.

        • Magnus Eriksson

Not sure. He is responsible of the american market, and he have failed to market the Wii U in US. In Japan they actually had some commercials. Also he is responsible for partnership with american devs etc. He kind of failed big time there.

          • jjbredesen

True, i guess we should just take over Nintendo then :P

            Norway FTW XD

I can be the GTSIHOATATC. The guy that sits in his office and takes all the credit.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Lol. I think that one week with me, and the company is dead. Nintendo had to go back to the bordello business they where doing before video games.

          • jjbredesen

Well they still make fantastic games, so i would say that they should go 3rd party. They have a lot of talent, but not in marketing.

They make good systems, but present them in the wrong way. So i guess we will just have to wait and see.

        • Rinslowe

I don’t think either of them should go. VGX was not an important decision for Nintendo by any means. Most people agree that dude bro’s occupy the largest percentage of Spike enthusiasts. And I agree. “They” would not have changed their sails to suit any title Nintendo revealed. Sure I can totally agree it was a failure in identifying the correct material for this show. But ultimately Nintendo is set to have an explosive 2014 with the coming lineup regardless.
This time next week VGX is a distant memory already.
Both Iwata and Reggie have proven time and again that their risks can pay off. They get it right about as much as they don’t but when success comes despite of this it proves to be acceptable.
But, I’ve said this a few times already; IF they miss even one title next year or delay it further then 2014 will be a very bad year for Wii U… As in disastrous.

          • Andrew W Garttmeyer

What makes 2014 explosive again? Smash bros and Mario Kart? Is that it?

          • Rinslowe

It may be your personal opinion that neither of those two titles are interesting or can be labeled as “explosive” for the entirety of 2014…. And you would be partially correct.
However, outside of trolling I doubt even the most devout anti Nintendo fanboys would seriously downplay the “explosive” potential of either Kart or Smash. If that is your true belief then it would be you and a few others against millions.
            But not just relying on those two major franchises, try;

DK TF: May not be the AAA game everybody was hoping for but historically this series sells very, very well. Not to mention it’ll likely receive universal praise as one of the best side scrolling platform hybrids of 2014.

Bayonetta 2: There’s already enough hype about this game as it is let alone the fact it’s an exclusive follow up to what became a cult classic original story. Platinum games are arguably the best at what they do in this genre. The game demo will be 1-1 on the actual retail copy as P.G never release playable demo ver’s that are not using actual game build material. People are looking to this game as Wii U’s graphical showcase in 2014. It’s “explosive” for those reasons alone.

Fast Racing Neo: Yet another Wii U exclusive from the guys who gave the U Nano Assault Neo. And any one who has played this game knows how good it looks and how easy it is to get into the arcade like vibe. All that within the MB limit originally mean’t to suit WiiWare downloads. On that note FRN looks to be a spiritual successor to FRL which actually was a WiiWare title and easily one of the prettiest looking games on the platform. Not to mention crazy good. Their new game FRN however is said to be taking advantage of Wii U’s feature set by utilising tessellation and 4K-8K textures. Shin’en Mulitmedia are tech wizards and their games are simple fun. “Explosive”.

WatchDogs: It’s a multiplat but if Ubisofts gamepad integration is anything like as deep as Deus Ex HR DC, then this will be the version to own. If it manages to incorporate the game as mentioned, then that makes this an “explosive” Wii U title for 2014.

Project Cars: Only one real reason puts this multiplat on the list…. IF you own a next gen console or PC then you’re in luck. If not…. then not so much. Set to be a gorgeous simulation racer the Wii U sorely needs, the DEV’s went on record and confirmed their artistic vision would have suffered too much by porting to last gen systems and it’s telling that Wii U is still on the list…. To put that into perspective, they pretty much raised a middle finger to platforms with a combined install base of over 160 million users because those machines couldn’t run the game as they intended it to be run. Alternatively Wii U has the smallest install base, so these guys are all about the vision, the quality and performance. Call it what you will, but to me that qualifies as “explosive”.
*Oh and there is this (Wikipedia)
“In addition to community feedback, Slightly Mad Studios have acquired the services of Ben Collins,[5] racing driver and Top Gear’s former “Stig”, and Nicolas Hamilton,[6] Clio Cup racing driver and younger brother to Formula 1 star Lewis Hamilton, in order to better develop a realistic simulation.”

X: I left this Wii U exclusive gem for last, not just because it’s the best example IMO for 2014, but also because I’m not entirely sure if this game gets a 2014 release date or not yet. So much is still unknown about the title and yet what has been shown is nothing short of phenomenal. Easily my most anticipated game of 2014 (potentially 2014:). After having played Xenoblade on Wii last year I am absolutely certain Monolith Soft know how to melt plastic with their technical prowess. When this game hits, from a visual perspective it won’t matter what specs are under the hood because it will be beautiful. And that’s the least thing going for it, try 100′s of hours of pure exploration in exotic locations by an eerily Japanese centric and engaging story-line driving you through it all. This is going to be Wii U’s answer to Skyrim.
Did I also hear someone say RPG multiplayer? That’s worthy in it’s own right! If not though, nothing lost.

Oh and lets not forget Kart and Smash….. They’ll just likely have Wii U’s flying off shelves. And both those games are looking surreal.

Hope that goes part way to answering your question…. :)

          • Andrew W Garttmeyer

I am no troll, and I realize that Kart and Smash are big IPs, but my point was that two god damn games does not make an ENTIRE year explosive, no matter how big the franchise.

However, you did let me know the other releases (I didn’t know at the time DK was pushed to ’14, which would be a disappointment to fans, especially because of the holidays) so I thank you for that.

Lastly, time will tell if those games have Wii U ‘flying off shelves’. We will see.

          • Rinslowe

Indeed. And tks for a fair reply.

      • jjbredesen

        hehe

        • Magnus Eriksson

          Looooool

        • Daniel Gonzalez

          Too true. Lol.

        • Rinslowe

          I love this one! Classic.

          • jjbredesen

            Thanks :)

          • Rinslowe

Sean Bean is one of my favourite actors. And totally believable as Eddard Stark and Boromir for that matter. I’m sure either of those characters would have said exactly that. lol.

      • PS4/WiiU

Reggie’s fine, Iwata’s the one who should leave

    • bizzy gie

      He looks like BlackBuster.

      • Nostalgic_Chaos

        He is actually BlackBusters brother

    • Jack5221

Have to agree here. While I love Nintendo, I have to say this announcement was a HUGE disappointment. First at E3 they show us Donkey Kong instead of Metroid. EVERYONE wanted Metorid. Im not saying the DK game looks bad, it looks really really good, I plan on getting it, but come on… This announcement was terrible. They could have just said that in a direct. Then again when I really think about…

      All fans are mad:
Microsoft fans getting 5 seconds of Quantum Break gameplay.
Nintendo fans getting DK instead of Zelda.
      And Sony fans getting nothing.
Really, what a joke of show.

      • DragonSilths

Not everyone wanted Metroid. We all wanted anything but DK. We wanted, Metroid, Starfox, New IP which is impossible. But I wanted fucking STARFOX!!!

    • Bridger Murray

      Is that Will Smith?

    • DK_Hadouken

Am I the only one that knows that Nintendo prefers BIG reveals during directs and E3? Seriously! Everyone has somehow missed the big elephants in the room. They asked if Retro was a multi-team studio. The guy said he can not answer. If they were still one team, then the simple answer would be, ahem, no. Further more, Reggie had a Metroid pin. Some may say that it was just a pin he had. But Nintendo has been dropping many hints via background items and what the are wearing in some way. I’m excited for Cranky. About freakin’ time! There will be a direct soon, so sit back and breath.

      By-the-way….
      CRANKY MC DUCK!

    • Andrew W Garttmeyer

LOL, this guy is great. I know I don’t even KNOW who cranky kong is, is he the little one? anyway, I don’t give a f about cranky kong. Hilarious, and he is right on the head.

  • Rinslowe

Totally missed the point and the show. Just sent the date for DK to Wii U Daily, lol. What an ar$e….. Not sure which is the greater fizzle here, lol!

Still, DK TF is going to be a great little platformer all the same. Looking forward to it.

    And still…. :(

  • SamusPrime

Why are so many video gamers spoiled brats? I want this game to be shown! No I want this game to be shown! if it isn’t I’m done with Nintendo. Grow up.

    • Graeme Lynch

Its not about being spoiled. Its about feeling let down by a company you support and invest money in. I guess you could say that you have lower expectations while I have higher expectations. Anyway this was just a bad PR move from Nintendo.

      • SamusPrime

No I disagree, gamers are a spoiled bunch. I don’t need a preview of a game that may not come out for another 10-12 months to make me feel good. I have plenty of current games, 25 to be exact to play on my WiiU. Do you really think a Zelda reveal would have wowed those in attendance, the most who are probably anti-Nintendo anyway?

        • Graeme Lynch

That is how you view it. Again I don’t believe it is spoiled to think Nintendo are ridiculous for presenting DK at this Spike Awards show. Totally wrong market. It is basic business!
It is great you have 25 WiiU games to play…you must not be fussy.
Yes I do believe a Zelda reveal would have made an impact. I believe anything other than DK or games that could be perceived as child-like would have made more of an impression. Again its about knowing the audience Samus. Know your audience. Nintendo are just too busy meeting their own agenda while alienating groups of gamers. Its almost like they don’t know whom they want to appeal to. Its worrying.

          • SamusPrime

They don’t appeal to those at the VGX anyways. I can guarantee you that most of those would have said “Oh boy another Zelda.” Nintendo is one of those companies that is damned if you do damned if you don’t. Was this show even on TV?

          • Zuxs13

Thats the point, they don’t appeal to this audience that is why they failed here. They need to appeal to them! And they had an opportunity to do so. DK is nothing this audience would care about, But X, Zelda, Bayonetta, or even Smash would be.

          • SamusPrime

Zuxs, I don’t think those in attendance would like those games either. They don’t like Nintendo, period. There isn’t an announcement that Nintendo can/would make that would sway them. Nintendo doens’t resonate with them at all. On a side note, I just finished New Super Mario Bros (launch game) today.

          • Zuxs13

That’s the Point, they need to appeal to them! Those games can appeal to those people if they are done right. Why even attend the show at all then.. Why even be a company if you don’t think they can not appeal to a large percentage of consumers.

          • SamusPrime

It is sad that the industry has fallen to the point where, if you don’t have a “huge” reveal at a silly award show, that you are a failure of a company. Which goes to my original point that gamers are spoiled, and I might add impatient.

          • jrob23

people define success in this industry by sales. I don’t but that is what they do. By that, they have failed to sell well. They need every single reveal to be amazing otherworldly until the message that the Wii U is a must buy sinks in. Honestly, this is marketing 101 here

          • Justin Clark

I think Smash is the only game you mentioned that might appeal to the dude bros. Bayonetta already didn’t on PS360. X is a JRPG not named Final Fantasy. And for some reason Zelda has become one games cited for lack of Nintendo innovation.

          • Zuxs13

Then they need to bring something else. like locking up Destiny to be on WiiU. They needed to either do something or not even show up.

          • Justin Clark

I would love Destiny to be announced, seeing as it has been announced PS360 as well as next gen. But, how much would that move the needle? CoD, Assassins Creed, Splinter Cell, Watch Dogs have all been announced or come out on Wii U and I don’t think anyone cared. They didn’t pull customers away from the twins. Wii U (for all its own problems) is dealing with the repercussions of making the Wii so underpowered.

          • Zuxs13

            it would be a start.

          • jrob23

well, those version have been gimped. But Watchdogs has gamepad use which might actually make the Wii U version the definitive one. If not gimped that is a day one purchase for me. Ubi will need to be rewarded for supporting. They will get my money some day for Rayman, just not soon because of the delay

          • jrob23

but they might have sat up in their chairs if they saw a nice trailer for “X” and that is a seed Nintendo should be trying to plant with opportunities like these

          • NkoSekirei

maybe x isnt ready to be shown just yet cause if monolith is pushing the wii u full power for x they need all the time to get it done right without rushing it

          • jrob23

could be, but even showing slightly more would energize everyone more than this

        • Zuxs13

You have 25 games but 10′s of millions don’t even have a Wii U or even give a crap about it! But they had an opportunity to get people on board with it and they failed again.

          • SamusPrime

I think what you are overlooking is that the vast majority of people who would take the time to watch the VGA’s already have their favorite console. There is proabably a small minority of people who have made up their minds (of those who would watch that show). Saying “they failed again”, is a bit much in this case.

          • Zuxs13

then why even show up? they obviously felt it was a strong marketing opportunity and i am sure they know the numbers better than you or i. they just have no clue what people want right now.

          • SamusPrime

It’s Nintendo’s next big game due out. It’s that simple.

          • SamusPrime

I think you are putting far too much importance on the VGA. I have never heard anyone say they purchased something video game related because they saw it on the VGA’s.

        • jrob23

you may not need that affirmation but Nintendo hasn’t sold the Wii U well in case you have been too busy gaming. We need people who don’t have one to get excited enough to buy one. Heck, I love my Wii U, but I want to get games like Division, Destiny, etc. and that will never happen unless the install base gets bigger

  • sup3rnoah

I’m very excited to pick up Tropical Freeze, but was wishing they would have shown something more “mature” for the core gamer. Nintendo fans will pick up Donkey Kong, was hoping they were going to attract new audiences with the opportunity of so many viewers. Better luck next time.

  • http://exazblog.blogspot.com/ Prince_AKR

To be honest; I’m not that surprised.

Nintendo has a knack for doing the complete opposite of what you would expect.

But let’s be honest; that Metroid pin Reggie was wearing had to mean SOMETHING. And did anyone realize how nervous he and his assistant from RETRO got when Geoff started talking about Metroid?

Doesn’t confirm anything, no. But it does give a little hint. So we’ll see what happens.

I really wasn’t expecting them to make any ground-breaking announcement. They save those big cards for their Directs and E3 presentations.

    • Zuxs13

Who cares about the damn pin! They failed at making any kind of impression here.

      • MujuraNoKamen

Exactly, no one in the audience was looking at his pin these morons look for any excuse to laugh at Nintendo and they got it. If Nintendo wanted to say a Metroid is on the way they should reveal one, even if it’s a small cryptic trailer or a tech demo FFS. Forget teasing just blow us away with something amazing. They just said to a bunch of non-Nintendo fans and actual fans like us that the best we can look forward to is Cranky Kong. The way 99% of people here either don’t care or are in uproar really puts into perspective the scale of this fuck-up.

    • FutureFox

It can’t just mean he’s showing support for the developer who standing right beside him talking about a new game of theirs?

    • C4

Of course Retro is working on another game. DKC has priority because DK sold more on Wii then all Wii Metroid games combined (not counting WiiWare, dunno about that) and it doesn’t need 2+ years development time because it’s 2.5D and not full 3D like Retros Metroid games so far. Since Retro doesn’t seem to have 2 complete individual teams they probably assigned more ressources to DKC, or maybe not.

    • MujuraNoKamen

I really hope you’re right about Metroid.

But god damn it this a great opportunity to announce something big and well… yeah…

    • NkoSekirei

agree but some people on here dont get it that nintendo wants to save the big announcements for directs and e3 it self and i wasnt expecting anything to be that big of announcement on a garbage award show

  • Shota

our only hope is this month nintendo direct for something new maybe.

  • pacheco90

I found his Metroid pin more interesting than what they announced. I´m very disappointed to Nintendo, what the hell were they thinking? Iwata doesn´t get it.

  • Zuxs13

    Pathetic.

  • jdiaz1994

I’m overall glad that Nintendo didn’t waste a big reveal like Zelda on such a god awful show. I’d rather see a new Zelda game on a Direct or during E3

  • John Andalora

    Not to seem terrible, but…

Still don’t regret selling my Wii U.

It’s a real shame. I wanted Nintendo to use this announcement to show me that it was a big mistake to do that. I wanted them to show me how wrong I was to sell it, and how much of a poor decision it was.

But I have not seen one positive thing about this other than “Well, why did you expect more than that?”

Cranky Kong in DKCR was one of the least appealing things that they could’ve shown at VGX.

    Bad move, Nintendo. Bad move.

    • Leo

If you sold your WiiU and now is not playing Super Mario 3D World then yes you made a big mistake, especially considering the lack of good games for the competitors in the coming months.

      • John Andalora

“lack of good games for the competitors.”
I’m currently enjoying a mixture of 7 games right now, buying one on the 10th, and considering The Wolf Among Us for Mac.
        Games:
        Need For Speed: Rivals
        Knack
        Contrast
        Blacklight: Retribution
        Res0gun
        SoundShapes
        Flower

This Christmas I’ll be getting Killzone: Shadow Fall and Madden 25.
I also have my Vita which is currently playing Ys: Memories of Celceta.

I think I’ll be much happier than I would’ve been with just one Mario game, thank you very much.

        • NkoSekirei

sry dude but most of the games for ps4 and xbox one are just overrated and most of them not even scored above a 7.0 or above

          • John Andalora

Have you actually played any of them?

If not, then I don’t care to listen to your opinion.

            *Goes back to playing PS4.

        • Reason

          …enjoying …Knack
          wtf am I reading?

          • John Andalora

Yeah. I like it. I think it’s fun.

You actually play it, or just piggy-backing off the thoughts and opinions of other people who didn’t like it?

  • Deadpool U

I don’t see why everyone’s mad Reggie never hyped anything up all he said was there new stuff for a game we already knew about everyone else hyped it up we should’ve it wasn’t going to be a big announcement by 1 of 2 things.

1.No Nintendo direct that’s where most of the major stuff is announced.

2.Its on VGX that is all.

    • Erik

Well you could be right about it. Maybe im just.. a bit off when it was announced. I honestly think it’s a bit wrong to do that but i would generally think its ok to do that because its either 1.) They could prepare the big announcements in a Nintendo Direct (if anyone can confirm the next Direct) to calm everyone down and douse the flames. or 2.) Most (if not all) games are still in development and working on the trailers. That’s just me.

  • Bridger Murray

NOOOOOOOOO WHY NINTENDO WHY!!!!!!!! NO METORID, NO ZELDA, NOTHING WE WANT TO SEE!!!!!!! JUST SHOW US EPIC GAMES!!!! WE DONT NEED ANY MORE MARIO OR DONKY KONG!!! HOW DID THEY THINK THAT PEOPLE WOULD ACTUALLY BE EXCITED ABOUT THIS???????

    • Deadpool U

First off lay off the caps. Second it wouldn’t have been Metriod since it was supposed to be a game we already knew about. Third do you really Nintendo is going to announce something major on VGX instead of a Nintendo direct like they usually do?

      • NintenScience

That user is angry at Nintendo Co., Ltd because that company is different from Sony Corporation and Microsoft Corporation

        xd

      • Bridger Murray

I was just making a general statement, saying that Nintendo is investing way too much time into mario and donky kong, while they leave fans of the metroid and zelda sires in the dark. I know that they wouldn’t announce metroid at the VGX, but I was hoping that they would give us some more zelda footage. Insted they give us the groundbreaking statement that you can play as an angry gorilla. Yippee.

  • CesarG

I love Nintendo and I want them do to well but they insist on being mediocre.

    • Deadpool U

I don’t see anything wrong with it announce something mediocre for a less than mediocre show.

      • John Andalora

This was their chance to steal the show and show people just the kind of stuff they should be hyped for. This was their opportunity to shine and get more people hyped in a Wii U for christmas with MK8 or Bayonetta 2 or SSB or X.

People feel like they wasted a perfect opportunity to get the kind of excitement they deserve.

        • Deadpool U

As I said before VGX is less than mediocre they shouldn’t waste the big stuff on a show like this.

          • John Andalora

VGX might not be up to par with E3, but that doesn’t mean you should just show something on par with them. If anything, I’d want to show how much better I am than that other boring junk.

          • MujuraNoKamen

Exactly. VGX sucks but either don’t go and save yourself the embarrassment or go in with a bomb to drop and show how much better Nintendo is and why they need a Wii U and build up the audience.

        • jrob23

EXACTLY!! That show was abysmal with nothing to get excited about. They could have been the talk of the industry with a reveal of a new IP, more Smash Bros. or X footage. I don’t expect Zelda U, but Donkey Kong? So weak and this is indicative of why the Wii U is struggling. I am done trying to defend them

          • John Andalora

I’ve been done defending for a while.
            In fact, I sold mine.

I’m not trying to tell others to do the same, but I’m just not on Nintendo’s side right now with the Wii U. I think most of it is me, but this doesn’t show me why I was wrong in selling it.

          • Rinslowe

Different strokes for different folks…. Me I’ve got a flippin PC which cost $1000′s. And what am I playing most of all….
Wii U. That’s what you call crazy man. Pikmin 3, WWHD and SM3DW have got me loopy for it. And the fact I can get my family in on it at the same time is a gamer’s dream. Family and Hobby, Hobby and Family…lol

Keep on keeping on Nintendo! :)

        • Shadao

I think they did steal show. Cranky Kong ended up as one of the top trend on Twitter after VGX. And apparently the only one from VGX to make it.

          • John Andalora

How many of those tweets went along the lines of “Cranky Kong? How stupid.”

Because from what I’ve seen on these WiiUDaily forums, it’s the majority.

And in the videogame business, any news is NOT good news.

          • NintenScience

any news is NOT good news
            - John Andalora

            Why?

          • John Andalora

If all people are doing is complaining about the only Nintendo video game in the show, why would someone spend $360 for the console and game?

          • Shadao

Well the 2DS has bad publicity, yet it still didn’t stop consumers from buying them in a dozen. On the contrary, it boosted sales for the 3DS.

Edit: Actually, most people are amused by it rather than feeling outrage.

          • NintenScience

Is that because there were NO hinges on the Nintendo 2DS?

          • MujuraNoKamen

VGX dude bros won’t buy a Wii U for DK. A good demo of X, B2, SMT X FE or SSB could have persuaded them to come to Wii U. A new Zelda, IP, Metroid or Eternal Darkess would have been great too. These people are now less likely to buy a Wii U now as they think DK is the best it can offer.

          • John Andalora

Actually, people turned around and changed their minds. People thought it was stupid, and then suddenly loved it.

        • NkoSekirei

no just no dude if they wanted to show something to wow the crowd it be at e3 or even rare cases on nintendo directs too

          • John Andalora

            Why no?
Nintendo could’ve blown the rest of it out of the water and convinced people “Hey, this is actually really cool.”

Most people watching the VGX never watch Nintendo Directs. Only Nintendo fans watch Nintendo Directs, and even then the information other sites like IGN or GameSpot take is glazed over. They had some air time to brag about their system, and all they do is show something that those people never would’ve been interested in.

If it had been MK8, people would’ve been “okay.” But DKCR, a game that none of those people care about probably turned them off it even more.

  • Josie the Sketcher

I didn’t watch it but from what you all telling me is that they showed DK tropical freeze. WHY NINTENDO??????? They had a chance to show off Wii U’s true power with games like Bayonetta 2 and X but they screwed up. Why? Why? Why? Why? Why?

  • Thomas Vienna

I’m not exactly disappointed. I knew from the beginning that it wasn’t going to be anything special. I’m just a little let down because they decided to show the one thing NOBODY wanted to see. Not because DK will be a bad game, but because they just got done talking about it!
It’s like the guy who can’t prank people on April Fools day because he only tries to prank people right after they pranked him. Reggie can be so predictable sometimes.

    • BGhp

If Nintendo is great company then your should have high expectations the, fact that you lowed your expectation means that there is somthing wrong.

You should not lower your expectations if somthing so great

      • Thomas Vienna

Correction: I don’t judge the value of the company based on what they decide to reveal during television events. The only reason I had low expectations for this reveal is not because Nintendo is disappointing, but because I expect Nintendo to leave the big reveals to E3 and Nintendo Directs (which, for the record, I thought the E3 direct was thoroughly enjoyable).
That, and I knew that there wasn’t going to be any groundbreaking announcement, because that’s exactly what Reggie promised. It’s just a new look on something that was already announced. I just thought that it might not be Donkey Kong again.

        • Deadpool U

Thank you that’s what I’m trying to explain to people.

        • BGhp

In other words you lowered you expectations. that is why Nintendo is like this. If the Xbox guy lowered there expectations Xbox one would still have DRM

  • Guest

Nintendo failed at VGX. Any other game would have been 1000x better than showing Tropical Freeze. What a missed opportunity, their first appearance at VGX and they choose Tropical FREEZE!!!! Personally I think Iwata needs to go. Nintendo needs new management.

    • BGhp

If he can’t handle it then he shouldn’t be running Nintendo.

    • NkoSekirei

stop bitching dude really u expected they would show something big on a bias video game award show which allows only celebs to vote seriously their not gonna show anything big maybe till the next direct of early next year like i said dont hype over something unless u end up burned.Besides we alrdy know that most of the big games and other games too wont be out till next year which ill be patience enough to wait not like u and the others that are complaining over last night showing

  • Josie the Sketcher

I’m sure DK tropical freeze no doubt would be a very fun game to play but with all this negative hype with the Wii U, they should have shown a game like X or even the upcoming Zelda game.

  • HungryMetroid

A huge missed opportunity for sure, but things could have been worse. They could have shown Yarn Yoshi.

    • Thomas Vienna

My speculation is that Yarn Yoshi is an abandoned project. I mean, we haven’t seen it for the longest time, and since then, a new Yoshi game for the 3DS was announced.

      • http://www.Idontownawebsite.com/ Govnah ShinySkiddo

mabye it is but mabye not since the fact that we heard nothing of mario party:island tour didnt have shown after apirl 2013 until two or three months before it released just give them time

  • Lil J Moore

Oh no people didn’t get what they wanted. Let’s bitch about it.

  • Leo

Nintendo acted like Nintendo and did exactly what they said they would do. They showed a new look of an upcoming game. They never said that they would announce a new game at this event. Though really thought they would show some more of Yarn Yoshi but showing DKC goes in line with what they said. People were just too deluded to expect more of it.

    • NintenScience

      Exactly…

  • Wiiluigi

Nintendo may have held back stuff for their next Nintendo direct. Fingers crossed.

    • Deadpool U

I’m 100% sure they did I mean that’s when they announce all their major stuff I mean why would they stop now?

    • MujuraNoKamen

I hope so but how long away will it be? January I’m guessing.
They should have given us something big here, they’re being laughed at and missed out on getting positive attention on Wii U. Nintendo Directs are all well and good but only existing fans will see it.

    • NkoSekirei

just dont hype too much just save it for e3

  • Leo

Let me remind everyone that back in the day (1994) DKC was considered a “hardcore” game LOL

    • Thomas Vienna

Lol, we don’t need to be reminded of how old Reggie and the gang are.

      • FutureFox

        Reggie joined Nintendo in 2003.

    • ETeach

Still is imo. I can beat most of today’s hardcore games easy. still destroys me, especially that ice level.

  • FutureFox

I stopped watching right after the DKCTF reveal but the trend leading up to it was that every developer was showing us more game play of what was already shown months prior. So this act by Nintendo doesn’t really surprise me though I thought it would be SSMB. DKCTP was suppose to be out now anyway so to show that instead seems like an odd choice.

But of course only Nintendo gets flack for it because you know…its Nintendo, and why the hell not? You saw the hosts egging Reggie (hehehe) on about revealing another title, which they of course had no others to reveal.

This was Nintendo’s first time at this event. Maybe they don’t quite understand to type of audience that would be viewing; or maybe they did but took this as an opportunity to show how different they are compared to other offerings. In a way it was certainly a stark contrast. Every other game was an action adventure with more blood-destruction, super detailed facial animation, dreary-city-scape- colored games and blah blah blah, then you have this shiny, bright, fluid platformer. It was more of Nintendo’s point to show how different they are, which really doesn’t need much more explaining.

Thinking about it more it is a gusty move. Because I’m sure not all 100+ million people watching are all raging “hardcore” gamer fans. Some might actually take well to seeing a something that isn’t just another action/adventure shooter with some justified twist to introduce artificial game mechanics like Quantum Break for example. But its a two-way street. Generate hype for something along what most of the audience expects or reel in the difference with something opposite to what is being offered.

Its actually kind of funny that they figuratively threw a “monkey-wrench” in the works.

  • X3Charlie

While I agree most with Thomas and Deadpool. VGX might have been good to show off something before Christmas maybe get some people’s attention.

  • X3Charlie

I don’t expect the Wii U to pick up steam until the middle of next year, if not next holiday season.

  • http://www.Idontownawebsite.com/ Govnah ShinySkiddo

selling my white wii u………………. for the black one

    • fireheartis1

      Haha nice one bro.

  • Inviable Gaming

When does this start or has it finished

    • BGhp

      Its done along time ago

      • Inviable Gaming

Damn i couldnt convert to aussie time i was sort of hoping it would be later.

  • alex toschi

For all the people bagging on Nintendo, YOU raised your hopes, and expected the world of a very vague statement about them taking a new look on a already announced game. Could it have been a more mature title that you were hoping for? Bayonetta 2? Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem? Monolith’s X? Super Smash U or Mario Kart? Yes those are all possible but there hasn’t been any released information about the first three, Nintendo would reveal that information in a Direct, not a show they have never made an appearance on that is focused on other systems and multiplatform games that aren’t going to be on the Wiii U. Would it have been smart to give a release date? Absolutely. They will in a Nintendo Direct. Yes Nintendo needs to draw in a larger crowd, but the best place to attract hype for their games is E3, where there is a actual substantial crowd. Yes we can all say we wish Nintendo dropped a bomb, but it wasn’t said, they gave us a small look at a great upcoming game, that is what has always said would happen. None of you run a billion dollar company in an industry where you are the only company that continues to develop games on it’s own hardware. You all act as if you would do better than Iwata or Reggie but you don’t know a damn thing. You can criticize all you want, but don’t blame them for your failed expectations.

    • Adrian

You take video games way too seriously man.

      • alex toschi

Actually I just try to enjoy them, not like the bunch of wanna be CEO’s and analysts on this site. What are your hobbies? Gaming? Music? Anything is worth taking seriously if you enjoy them.

        • Guest

You take videogames too seriously if you wish someone to lose their job all because you didn’t get what “you” wanted.

          • alex toschi

who said I wanted them to lose their job? I was criticizing those people. You should read my messages more carefully next time man.

          • NkoSekirei

dude wat he saying is that people on here were hyping way too much and now their butthurt cause of it that why we have e3 to look forward to

        • Adrian

I don’t pretend to know the current/best corporate strategy for my hobbies. You know what is worth taking seriously? Politics, religion, poverty, war. Video games are for fun man, don’t raise your blood pressure over it.

          • alex toschi

Hey I agree on some level, those are big topics that we should worry about. as someone who works in the business side of video games I tend to enjoy caring about this sort of stuff. Paying attention is what could lead to higher paying jobs.

      • Rinslowe

        I dont get this comment…
Pretty sure that guy is preaching the same story.

        • NintenScience

          And…what is that same story?

          • Rinslowe

Lol, I’m sure you can figure it out yourself.

          • NintenScience

            xd

        • Adrian

          Mine or his?

          • NintenScience

            ??

    • CivilRobo

Holy shit someone who gets it! I don’t know why everyone is so butthurt right now over a hype trailer they will get in a direct this month!

      • alex toschi

True that man. Just give the people some damn time, play some games and have fun, it’s ridiculous how this reaction is getting such fire and brimestone. Someone said Iwata and Reggie should lose their jobs over this. Disgusting people.

    • NkoSekirei

the only thing we should be hyping for is e3 and nintendo directs will mostly e3 cause they show more then on some bias video game awards that only allows celebs to vote which i dont watch any more.

      • alex toschi

Exactly. This wasn’t going to be some amazing night centered on nintendo, why would it be? It was hardly even an awards show. The whole night was embarrassing.

        • NkoSekirei

thats why i dont watch it

    • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

I expected nothing. I expected this. I’m just pissed that they did it

      • alex toschi

Why? VGX is a worthless show, it wasn’t even on Spike in my area, and I have Time Warner Cable as my cable provider in Southern California. That’s one of the largest cable providers in the country. Sure we all want to know more about games, but revealing something at that show would have hardly been as effective as at E3. You just said you expected nothing, but you expected them to do this. That makes no sense, neither does your reaction. Sony games weren’t even mentioned, Titanfall and a few multiplatforms were. At least Nintendo built hype for a soon to be released game. You don’t know if every hardcore gamer isn’t interested in that game. I think we can only expect this to drive the sales of Tropical Freeze, which looks like an amazing game.

  • Mason

    when does it start?

  • Mason

its not showing up on my wii u i live in cali

  • Shadao

How funny that Cranky Kong is what people remember the most out of this show.

  • SleepySkullhead

I missed it, what was announced from Nintendo?

    • majora :D

      Donkey Kong Country

      • SleepySkullhead

        Just Cranky Kong? Nothing else?

        • majora :D

          Nuthin’ :(

          • NintenScience

            xd

  • PlayboyPacquiao

The Malignaggi vs Judah boxing match today was more entertaining than VGX.

  • Raye Penber

I was hoping they were gonna show off a new game =/

  • NintenScience

So…the so-called fans here are hating on Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze because it is NOT mature enough?

    lol

Video games should NOT have a rating slapped on to its packaging. We are supposed to play video games, instead of using politics to control video games.

    The ignorance is extreme…Haha

    • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

I dont care that it’s not “mature” enough. I’m going to play it and love it.

The fans arent the ones who think it’s not mature enough

It’s the typical crowd who WATCH VGX that will be saying that. Nintendo should’ve shown something that would appeal to them. Instead, they showed something that appeals merely to the core Nintendo crowd

  • ZeldaFanzzzz

There’s a reason why we have e3, most of you guys act like its the of the world with cranky kong.

  • Petri

I can see how it could disappoint some people,
but when you consider, it was still the best of VGX, its saying a lot.
Sure, not the best that Nintendo could have given, but still the best that VGX had to offer.

  • Slug_DC
  • Kyle Berger

Damn I was hoping for Mario kart

  • Nostalgic_Chaos

I agree with what a lot of you have said.

Yes, many of us were expecting something a bit more exciting than what they announced. Even if it wasn’t necessarily Zelda U, just something a bit more uplifting than announcing a DK character. However, lets not forget that there are a huge slew of amazing games coming for the Wii U next year:

Mario Kart 8, SMash Bros, Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, Monoliths’ X, Beyonetta 2 etc…

We have a lot to look forward to. Be encouraged.

    • NkoSekirei

but hyping over it is also stupid i mean we alrdy know that some of the big hitters will be out next year with alot of other games as well but smash bros thats a wait and see.

      • NintenScience

It would mostly be at the Nintendo Direct

      • Nostalgic_Chaos

Not hyping, encouraging after yesterday’s disappointment. There’s a difference between hyping and trying to help people to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

  • David John Gifford

why is everyone so upset with nintendo if you have a nintendo home console you buy for nintendo games correct
no more needs to be said

  • Akatosh

Okay, I’m sorry, but there are some people here that are waaaaay too susceptible to hype. Did anyone really honestly think we were going to get anything bigger than DK? The “hints” dropped were about as much speculation as anything else out there.

    • Lil J Moore

Somebody who gets it. Everybody was getting their hopes up off a little thing.like this show hated that it wasn’t what THEY wanted. I bet the people here bitching would be the same ones who are gonna praise Nintendo when they reveal the big ones.

    • NkoSekirei

i agree i mean i dont watch the video game awards on spike cause it sucks so i wasnt expecting anything big from nintendo and reggie alrdy stated from a few articles ago theres gonna be plenty of wii u games coming out next year along with some big hitters

  • jjbredesen

    Yup

  • Antonio Jose de Sousa

Nintendo failed big time in this event. They should have presented something new and exiting to keep people interested in the WiiU. I’m so disappointed with Nintendo participation in this event that almost regret had buy the WiiU for Christmas. I don’t give the WiiU another year if they keep making annucements like this one.

    • Magnus Eriksson

Well, you might not need to. Quite likely a discontinuation in the year to come.

    • NkoSekirei

nintendo failed really dude i think u need to add this to ur equation dont hype for something unless its for a nintendo direct or more for e3 but not on some stupid piece of $hit video game award show thats not worth watching for information on new games coming out.

  • Yoshifan3

wow.. it was a good thing i sold my wii u and got a ps4 instead lol.

there were alot of games im really excited for. witcher 3, destiny, tomb raider, south park. im really excited about witcher 3. great time to be a gamer.

  • Guest

It is’s amusing how fast even the most hardcore of Nintendo fanboys are bashing Nintendo for this…

Nintendo needs to take the hint. This just makes me feel sorry for them, dam don’t have words.

    • Deadpool U

Do need to remind you this was VGX? They didn’t deserve anything better than Cranky Kong.

    • Shadao

I say Nintendo was the best part of the show. Hardcore fanboys should stop complaining about this and start respecting the “Original Hardcore Gamer”, Cranky Kong.

  • Extra Vinegary

Telltale should put their games on Wii U. I would play Tales from The Borderlands and The Walking Dead with touch screen controls on the gamepad.

  • BrandonIsAGod

Everyone is all mad that Nintendo just showed off Cranky in DK TF, but I’m sort of glad that they did. VGX is fucking god awful, I’m glad that they didn’t waste showing off a new Zelda, Metroid, Smash, X or even their new IP at such a joke of an award show. While i do agree that it would have been a good time to show new off, as all eyes were on Nintendo at the piece of shit show, there was no reason for them to show off something that VGX didn’t deserve to have shown at. But I do agree with the people saying that it was wrongly hyped, as it was just showing us a game that we’ve already seen footage of, but come on, it was you guys who let yourselves get your hopes up. DK TF is the next first party Nintendo game to be released, so it only makes sense to advertise that game for the time being, but they should have at least just said ‘at the VGX Awards, you will get a brand new look at DK TF.’ So it’s a fault on Nintendo’s part, but it’s also a fault on all of the people who speculated and were hoping for some revolutionary announcement. Should have known from the words ‘a new look’, that it wasn’t going to be something amazing.

  • jjbredesen

So now that we are all done with are Nintendo rage, what do you guys make of Reggie’s metroid troll? Could we see a new Metroid teaser at E3??

    • MujuraNoKamen

We need the Metroid announcement now. If they want to get us hyped for Metroid after they’ve shot down all our hopes the last 6 months, they should just show it!!!
I hope Metroid comes and fast but look at the Zelda shirt he was wearing, that amounted to nothing, what’s saying that this wont be the same. VGX may suck balls but it would be a great way to get that demographic into Wii U with X, Zelda, Metroid, new IP etc and after all that hype and expectation (from VGX, not just Nintendo fans) Reggie essentially says we’ve got nothing.

      • NkoSekirei

im hoping for metroid prime 4 in sick hd graphics that be awsome

        • NintenScience

          Me too.

    • Mithiragi

I’m hoping they show a teaser in the next Direct, then a full blown aids trailer spectacular at E3.

  • C4

They have Nintendo Direct and E3 to make announcements for international audiences and across all ages. Be disappointed when they have nothing to show on these and not those meaningless “VGX” events.

    • MujuraNoKamen

I wouldn’t call VGX meaningless no matter how much I hate dude bros and haters. Nintendo directs are fine but the only people who watch them are Nintendo fans, VGX was a golden opportunity to reach out to a new audience. And instead people are laughing at us, Nintendo would’ve been better of not doing the show at all as the announcement was inconsequential and they could have saved themselves the embarrassment.

      • C4

Maybe I was exaggarating, but all they could have shown would have been a trailer. DKC was playable and will be released in 2 months or so. I doubt they could have build up hype or momentum for another game on an event like that.

        • MujuraNoKamen

X and Bayonetta wouldn’t be lost on those guys. SSB wouldn’t have been bad either. Even if they wouldn’t have wowed anyone at least they wouldn’t have humiliated themselves. Maybe you’re right and they couldn’t have built up hype whatever the scenario, then I ask what the hell was the point of going!? Either make a big announcement that at the least could have impressed us Wii U fans or don’t bother, just don’t make the situation any worse.

    • C4

Should have said “if” instead of “when”. Freudian slip sorry :P

  • NintenScience

    Wait for the Nintendo Direct

  • Levi Johansen

I think it was OK to not show anything new, but why DK?

DK is a side-scrolling, platforming game which is not really impressive and the game itself is for Nintendo fans only, especially when the reveal is Cranky, which none other than Nitnendo fans even know about.

The game is awesome, having Cranky is cool, but showing more of Mario Kart, or any other game would have been better. It’s not like DK is a system seller the way Mario Kart and Super Smash is.

  • Chronic Gang

    chill vgx sucks

  • TheBrainJemin

    Nintendo

    ლ(ಠ益ಠლ)

Y U NO SHOW SMASH BROS INSTEAD?
    ARRRGHHH!!!

  • HypocritesRROD

Didn’t watch the vgx. And never did in the past years. And with all the propaganda campaign against Nintendo, like the way they took down the Wii U version of Aliens Colonial Marines, i’m not surprised. I’m more surprised about the fact that Mario 3d World was even nominated.

Geoff keighley knew back then that Tropical Freeze has new character so he invited and convinced Reggie to announce it at vgx. Then keighley hyped Nintendo fans on twitter by posting Zelda stuff with Reggie. He did this to make Nintendo fans angry at Nintendo. I’m sure keigley is grinning like a dog right now.

Nice try keighley. But the vgx doesn’t deserve a big Nintendo Announcement. We have Nintendo Direct for that. BTW, i’m enjoying my Wii U and looking forward to next year’s big games. And i’m still not buying the other consoles.

  • Gabe Hoffman

I don’t understand why people are having such a meltdown over this. We were clearly warned this would be on a previously announced game. Unfortunetely the idiot websites and Geoff Kingly hyped it up and made people think it would be Zelda. Did you really think Nintendo would waste something as big as Zelda on a crappy awards show?

  • Ice Climbers

From the looks of things, we will get DK in February, Mario Kart 8 in March alongside Watch Dogs, and Bayonetta 2 in April. Nintendo’s E3 lineup will consist of X, SMT x FE, Smash, Zelda, and anything else announced.
