Why the VGX Awards was an embarrassment to the gaming industry [VIDEO]

This past weekend, along with millions of others, I subjected myself to the entire three hour broadcast of the VGX awards. Simply put, this was a video game awards show that seemed like it could care less about the gaming industry. After reflecting on what I saw, I took to YouTube to voice my disdain for the program. Check out the video below.

What were your thoughts on VGX? Let us know in the comments.

  • Laud

    Geoff Keighley, is my enemy.

    • BIG Franky

I actually like Geoff… he is definitely one of the (very) few “pro-Nintendo” guys online that have a voice…. so I don’t have a problem….

  • Kenshin0011

Most everything was terrible, and Nintendo contributed to that.

It’s not rocket science that the VGX and Spike TV are heavily watched by “hardcore gamers”. Even if it wasn’t, Nintendo’s “reveal” was VERY lackluster!

Reggie said we’d see a “New look” at an “upcoming Wii U game”. The VGX website literally said that Reggie Fils Aime would present a “world premiere”. If that’s not hype for something special, then I don’t know what is.

Now I’m not saying something major like Zelda U should have been shown, but giving Bayonetta 2 or Monolith’s X some good press would have been a great choice! Showing an unlockable character, that was already rumored and no surprise, for a 2D platformer for your next gen console that the mainstream media already calls unimpressive is plain idiotic.

    • Magnus Eriksson

Zelda U should have been shown. Thats excactly what N. should have been doing. They should have shown that they still are among the best, instead they chose tho show Cranky Kong.

      • Sydney Ultrasyd

        Crappy Kong

      • Nintenjoe82

but they probably don’t have anything worth showing with regards to Zelda. There are still things that would have been better for them to show but I bet the best they could come up with for Zelda would be a still showing a new art style.

It’s the same as the e3 2012 where we all scratched our heads at why they spent their whole presentation focusing on Miiverse and asymmetric gameplay. Now it seems pretty obvious that they didn’t have anything to show us back then.

        • Magnus Eriksson

“…but they probably don’t have anything worth showing with regards to Zelda. ”

          BINGO

          • Nintenjoe82

2015 at best. Cross-gen title for Wii U and their next gen machine at worst :)

DKC, MK and Smash and filler will be enough for them for next year. I reckon we’ll be lucky if we see more than one of Bayo, X and Zelda. I suspect we’ll get another remake to tide us over…

          • Magnus Eriksson

2016. One of the last titles for Wii U and a launch title for their next system (if their will be any).

Same strategy as Twilight Princess on GCN/Wii

      • Wayne Beck

Nintendo isn’t going to waste Zelda on a cut rate incredibly bias thing like VGX. The only acceptable games for them to have shown were Bayonetta or Smash.

    • Guest

You summed it up very well.

    • Super Buu

It would be the PERFECT time to announce X’s actual title. What I don’t understand is why they didn’t announce Cranky wayyy back at E3. Would it be any different if they announced Cranky then? I mean, no offense to any DK fans but what the hell is so special about Cranky that we had to wait nearly 6 months JUST to have him announced.

      • NintenScience

        And Bayonetta 2.

      • Kenshin0011

I also don’t care because if you play solo mode YOU CANNOT play as anyone besides Donkey Kong. Only in multiplayer can the other players be used. Very bad design.

        • rp17

Actually it’s DK plus someone. But that practically ends up being DK with a jetpack or DK with a cane…

      • Sydney Ultrasyd

This is why he is so special : he actually is a duck wearing a monkey costume -_-

      • Sydney Ultrasyd

X even has a secret title that was fitting with VGX. You don’t know how much I watched the trailer again and again last week. I’m not disapointed because they didn’t show X : any “new” game would have been nice and exciting. But big or little announcement, VGX or Nintendo direct, Cranky Kong isn’t very exciting to me … and I’m a Nintendo lover. So I can imagine the effect on people who don’t have a Wii U… maybe nothing, I doubt this annoucement will sell many Wii U.

    • Laud

Honestly, I felt like Nintendo had more to show but didn’t.

I mean come on, why would they bring the Retro dev just to reveal a character? Something tells me somethin’ else was going to happen but then Reggie changed his mind last minute and Geoff knowing that there’s more to it tried to push him on. However, Reggie’s body was ready for it.

      • Kenshin0011

Reggie’s position is more scripted than that, he wouldn’t make the decision to not show something last minute. It would have to come from higher up.

But I do not think that happened, I think they just didn’t care about the VGX in the first place. Which is dumb, they shouldn’t even have gone then.

        • Laud

Higher up? He’s COO and the guy in charge of marketing.

          He is the higher up.

          • NintenScience

            lol, the Public Relations department…

          • Kenshin0011

Yes, though the way Nintendo conducts their business/policies seems very shortsighted and is probably limited to only a few higher ups.

          • Kenshin0011

An example would be how they design the friend system and messaging, It’s very clunky, basically on purpose because they are so scared of people who abuse online communities. They deleted swapnote, something I LOVED on the 3DS, because someone committed a crime using it. You might as well ban the entire internet then based on that stupid logic.

          • Falcoxcalibur

Not really, we already know the decisions come from Japan. From Iwata.

    • Wayne Beck

lol VGX is not watched primarily by Hardcore Gamers. It’s watched primarily by Spike TV Obsessed Meat Heads.

      • au8277

Yes, dudebro gamers who don’t give a wet squeaker about Donkey Kong. My problem isn’t with Nintendo trying to market their next big release (Feb.); it’s their line of thinking as far as who the audience for their specific franchises are.

Trust me, the people who made DKCR a big hit that ARE watching Spike TV are already going to buy DKCTF and they’re probably regulars on sites like this. The rest of the folks watching that show wouldn’t touch DKCTF…unless you can shoot Cranky Kong in the face with a shotgun…and then fingerpaint with what’s left.

        • Wayne Beck

Don’t get me wrong, I’m very much aware that DKCR was a stupid game to show at VGX. I actually convinced myself Nintendo wasn’t dumb enough to show DK, but Nintendo is Nintendo. They do what they want.

If they showed a New Look at Bayonetta gameplay, they would have sold some consoles. Showing DK did nothing but get them laughed at.

    • DragonSilths

      Eh…DKC TF is more like a 2.5 D platformer lol. Not 2D.

  • NintenScience

    lol

  • http://Johnaguilera.prosite.com/ John Aguilera

Probably a very unpopular opinion but I think Joel was a shitty host. He seemed very uninterested in the event and made me just want to stop watching.

    • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

that’s actually a really popular opinion

      • BIG Franky

yeah… that seems to be the consensus. Joel was awful…

  • Jack5221

It was a terrible show. I really feel like Gaming awards should be taken seriously just like Tv shows, Movies and Music. Its entertainment that a lot of people – myself included – are passionate about. VGX is part of the reason that gaming isn’t taken seriously and I for one am offended.

  • Derek Anderson

If VGX doesn’t care, neither should we.

Realistically, I think that is the only reason why some people tuned in. They WANT it to be good. Obviously, this wasn’t good, and felt more like an experiment than anything else. I may not be a huge fan of the Dewrito Pope, but he does have a passion for gaming, and hopefully he can give video gaming a proper showcase in the future.

  • Simon Stevens

The gaming industry is an embarrassment to the gaming industry, what once was magical is now miserable, I remember when games for the most part focused on imagination, captured innovation, really centred on how fun they could make a game, how captivating they could make the storyline, all anybody talks about now is graphics, when games started out, kids were the main demographic, outside of Nintendo, nobody really caters to that anymore, and people act like kids don’t play games or should play games, it’s shameful, VGX just goes to show what gaming is now, a bunch of 30-40 year old losers raging on eachother over opinions, I won’t buy a ps4 or xbox1 solely because I don’t want to be associated with them, leave me to my Nintendo products in peace so I can die a nostalgic faggot living in the golden age of the 90s and trebles o’s :)

    • BIG Franky

      “nostalgic faggot” LOL…. amazingness….

    • Leo

Hahahahahaha very well put! you should be hired as a gaming analyst!

      • Simon Stevens

Great idea, easy money, look and sound professional, make shit up, doesn’t matter if it’s right or not, as long as I get payed “I predict Nintendo will sell a billion Wii U’s, martians on Venus have become popular demand because they like Metroid and Star Fox, nobody else will give them the platform to play those games on, xbox will a cablillion because Microshaft are a big big company and people like shooters, they have the technology to put peoples faces from Kinnect into the game, you could shoot grandma in the face, it’s gonna be big, as for Sony, their easy bake oven isn’t gonna sell becausenI don’t like em” :p anyone can do Pach’s job

        • NintenScience

          lol

    • au8277

On one hand I agree with you, but on the other I think that the huge amount of diversity you see in gamers these days is a result of games “growing up” (and ironically allowing gamers to act more immature than ever). I think there’s always going to be a place for nostalgia and light-hearted fun. I’m in my 30′s and I go back to my SNES for some Mario Kart and Yoshi’s Island during the holidays every year. But if older gamers want to play games with dark/serious themes, hyper-realistic graphics and high production values, I think that’s cool too. The great thing about games nowadays is that there’s literally something for everyone; dudebros, old-schoolers, casuals, niche folks and even non-gamers (think Wii Fit). That can’t be a BAD thing. I do understand your point of view though. Cheers.

      • Simon Stevens

I respect that and truthfully I do enjoy games like that, skyrim, oblivion, bioshock, borderlands, uncharted etc I just think that’s all it is though now, very rare we see anything else and when we do gamers and sites like IGN talk down to it, like when Ni no kuni was revealed, a true work of art, it was like their attitude towards it was “eugh a jrpg”, I just can’t stand these kind of gamers who think themselves to be superior, I dunno how Reggie works in this industry, it would just infuriate me, I just picture the poor sod going home, going straight upstairs and there it is, a clown bop doll that squeeks when you hit it, “It’s reggie time, time to choke a bitch”, not all gamers are like this but those miserable ones who do nothing but complain about everything should gtfo and find another hobby before they have a heart attack lol

        • au8277

LMAO, I’d give a kidney to see Reggie actually do that! Yeah, it would be more fun for everyone if people could be a little more open-minded about what constitutes “good” games (and entertainment in general; think about how bad elitism is when it comes to films/film fans/film reviewers; yikes!).

          • Simon Stevens

That’s what I had until the 360 and ps3 arrived, everything had it’s place, now it just sems like whatever isn’t deemed m rated isn’t worth talking about, I hate how it’s got to the point were specs are everything, I know the Wii wasn’t HD and that was a bummer but there’s nothing wrong with the Wii U hardware, Reggies a big guy, wish he’d go and kick the asses of the developers that slated it, made me laugh, top rated developers didn’t know how to develop for it but indies did lol, it’s crazy, I was thinking that the other day, if a film isn’t warner brothers or paramount it usually scores a 5, granted not every film is gonna be as amazing as Avatar but some deserve better ratings than they get :).

          • http://ejercitogeek.net/ Mercurio2054

            you know what happen?
when we were young, we ware the mayoralty, we group, we do like old games, and some new ones, ( good ones) like you say, rated E, M, etc.
but now the mayority aren’t us,…. now are the youngers than us, they see us playing M games and want to feel like old playing this games and some of the fault is there, when you play cod or mass efect 3 in wii u lot of chat voices are from teens.
now the big developers like EA want to make games fast and what the mayority want… and the mayority’re those boys and some retarded older ones.

SEND FROM MY WII U GAME PAD TV OFF MODE

        • DragonSilths

Got a problem with Reggie? Sure he came from Pizza Hut, but I like Pizza hut…Although you cant deny that Reggie loves his job and has fun interacting with fans and playing games.

          • Simon Stevens

He gives me confidence and optimism in the company, not really got anything bad to say about him, I wish he was my bro

        • The Clockwork Being

I get what you mean. Especially when he is around that scumbag Geoff. That idiot is exactly what some gamer are right now.

          • Simon Stevens

…………….Keighley o.o (supposed to be beady evil eyes),

he’s always talking down to Reggie, every single chance he gets, Geoff gets away with it though because he hides it behind his nice guy tone, I just don’t get what makes him feel he’s so entitled and empowered to act like that, what has he really contributed to the industry, what have any one of these chowder heads done for us?, I don’t know who’s worse, Geoff, or Gregg and Colin from IGN, I got no beef with the bossman though, he comes across like a bro from way back ^^

        • Rinslowe

You have a way with words my friend. :)

    • Wayne Beck

OMG, Posting Here because your at the top.

Club Nintendo has WII U virtual Console Games this Month!

      Not Wii Games Anymore!

      • Simon Stevens

I want them Gamecube titles, Nintendo better make this happen soon ^^

        • DragonSilths

We don’t even have N64 games on it yet do we?

          • Simon Stevens

No we don’t but it doesn’t stop me wanting gamecube games :p

        • Daniel Carvalho

I share the same feelings as you. We need GC titles in 1080p with a new wireless GC controller (and hopefully 1080p N64 titles with a N64 wireless controller as well)! It would be the first time in history we’d be able to play classic N64 and GC titles in full HD, Nintendo has to make it happen with the full experience we got in the past with the proper controller for each console!

          • Simon Stevens

Couldn’t agree more, what games would you most want?

          • Daniel Carvalho

Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, Fire Emblem Path of Radiance, Baten Kaitos, Tales of Symphonia, and many other GC and N64 titles I could not play because of lack of money. Of course, I want all of them in Japanese XD

          • Simon Stevens

Why Japanese? :), for GC I’d want, billy hatcher, sonic adventure 2, luigis mansion, spyro enter the dragonfly, fire emblem, tales of symphonia, paper mario thousand year door, skies of arcadia, vex, baten kaitos, evolution worlds, pokemon gale of darkness, ty, there’s loads more lol n64 hmmm I WANT EVERYTHING!

          • Daniel Carvalho

I want in Japanese because the voice acting from Japan is way better than the localized version. To tell the truth, the reason I didn’t buy Metroid: Other M is because there’s no Japanese audio on it (although I’ve played and beaten the game many times), which is wierd, because there’s enough space on disc for both English and Japanese audios, as proven in the Japanese version of the game that comes with both.

Also, I can’t really play The Last Story without going on Youtube to watch the cutscenes in Japanese. It really hurts my ears having to stick with the localized version. I havenothing against games/movies/series in English or any other language, but if we’re talking about a work that was originally meant to be in Japanese, the localized voice acting sucks!

Oh, yeah. I understand Japanese, so I have no problem with texts as well.

          • Simon Stevens

I’m the same, not so much about games though I’ll agree if the voice acting isn’t suited to the characters, it just ruins it for me, like Bravely default, everyone is going crazy about it, as soon as I heard the voice acting, I was instantly put off, I like to watch the majority of my animes in Japanese because unless it’s a big anime like Soul eater or Fullmetal alchemist, the effort isn’t always there and I wind up hating it, especially how some of these voice actresses portray the characters, like Air tv, one of the best animes I’ve ever seen, watched that in Japanese, watched it later in English with a friend and I had to leave the room so my experience wasn’t tainted.

    • jjbredesen

Now that is a fantastic comment i am only 15, but i agree 100% on that we are far to focused on graphics and shit. My fav game series is Zelda, not because of graphics, but because of the fantastic story, gameplay, music, artstyle, puzzles, creativity, innovation etc.

I just dont get why people buy games that look great but are not fun to play…

      • Simon Stevens

When I was 15 I spent all summer on Wind Waker, for the kids that missed out on Wind Waker, it was a great move from Nintendo to give then the opportunity to play it, shame other people ignore the kids now and mindlessly say “old game”, games like Zelda just capture your soul and make you excited, not many games can make you feel like that anymore, when my dad died this year, I listened the a lot of orchestrated Zelda tracks, one in particular that really soothed me, being the song of time, I couldn’t relate that sort of thing to a shooter with pretty graphics, no chance, it’s games like Zelda that make games so worth playing, it’s an experience you can’t get anywhere else, if I wanted to shoot people, I’d join the army and if I wanted to steal peoples cars, do drugs and have sex with sluts, I’d do it in real life lol I don’t need a games console for that.

        • jjbredesen

Great advice lol now il go and rape everyone that i like. XD

          • Simon Stevens

live long and bust nuts :)

          • jjbredesen

            and you have kids…. XD

    • DragonSilths

That lasted till the 7th Gen. Up to the Gamecube gaming was at its best. Sure the Wii had some imaginative game and innovation with the Wii Motes. But NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, PS1, PS2 and Dreamcast were all the golden says of gaming.

      • Simon Stevens

        Everything you just said

      • Simon Stevens

Anyone that gives me an android console that can emulate perfectly all of those consoles, gets to go the bank and gets all my money

        • DragonSilths

I don’t see the fascination with Android. My cell phone is Android but its nothing more then a brand to me. I don’t see the appeal to having an Android anything other then a phone lol.

          • Simon Stevens

If I could have one solely for emulators I would, I couldn’t deal with the touch screen controls and most mobile games are boring, I just want somebody to make a good enough system to run these emulators on and of course somebody to make the emulators ^^ I’d use my pc bt it wouldn’t look right under my tv stand, you can’t tell me you wouldn’t buy a system that could perfectly emulate all those consoles you love though, surely?

        • Russel

Actually I’d like to see that all on the Wii U e-shop. That would definitely be better than any emulator!

          • Simon Stevens

but we’d never see ps1,2, psp and xbox 1 games (the first xbox one… not todays xbox one >.< thr confusion", I'd like some commodore 64 games personally :p

        • jjbredesen

Now that is actually not that hard to make… Just get a PC with 4-6 GB ram or more a 1GB graphics card or more and a I3 2,6 ghz prosssor or more install android on it and you are ready to go. Then get a bluetooth adapter and controller and you are ready to go.

There are emulators for all of them, my S2 can just about run melee at 5fps so with this build you should get 60fps on all games.

My pc can run andoid fine, but windows is the way to go for emulators.

          • Simon Stevens

My pc can run them but I wouldn’t want it underneath my tv stand plus android x86 isn’t all that compatible because Android apps and games are mostly designed to run on arm processors, my phone runs them great, although there’s no gamecube, ps2 , xbox or dreamcast emulators available to speak of, either way, when it happens, I’d love a little box to play them in the future ^^ just gotta keep waiting like we did with the ds emulator and the psp emulator is slowly getting there too

          • jjbredesen

What you say is true, but there is a dolphin beta app, but it runs horribly slow, obvisously because phones are not powerfull enought and the app is still in beta stage. but if you want to check it out and play melee in 5fps you can download it from googleplay:

            https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.dolphinemu.dolphinemu&hl=en

          • Simon Stevens

I’ll check it out :) thanks, wasn’t there something similar for the dreamcast?

          • jjbredesen
          • Simon Stevens

now we just need to see ps2 and xbox come to life and we can stay young forever :D

          • jjbredesen

there is no hope for the xbox one right now it is not even emulated on pc verry well..Ps2 on the other hand you can find here: http://www.emuzone.org/ps2-emulator-for-android/

          • Simon Stevens

how well does that actually work?, that seems too good to be true but as I’m typing this, my mobile phone is being ripped from the wall off charge :D

      • Russel

Sorry But, U Forgot Atari 2600 & The Coleco vision! Ohh… & The Sega Genesis!

        • DragonSilths

I don’t like Atari. Look what happened to them. They thought gaming should never have more then 1 joy stick and 2-3 buttons. Atari died and I dance on their grave.

          • Russel

Yes, Atari did a lot wrong. But, I’m in my 40′s & the 2600 was my first Console. Aside from The really crappy arcade ports there were Ponti classic exclusive original games such as “Yar’s Revenge” & “Super Breakout”! And those are the titles I’m talking about!

    • Emerald Knight

I wish everybody would stop picking on the wii u because of the hardware. I’ve played Call of Duty Ghost on both the wii u and on PS4 and I honestly don’t see a difference. Your playing the same game and I think everyone forgets that fact that the games we all like for the xbox and PlayStation are mostly 3rd party titles, so you can’t blam the wii u that some games we like on other consoles are not released on the wii u. The wii u has shown time after time that it does have the power to play high end games, it’s up to the developers on how well detailed games look and what content they have.

      • Simon Stevens

Exactly right, anything ps4 and xbox1 have, the Wii U could have too, just takes shoe horning it on there by optimizing the hardware, developers won’t tell you that though to save themselves from being embarrassed by not knowing how, it’s shameful, I’ve played the ps4 and not one single game looked as retina melting as wind waker hd or pikmin 3 did, maybe that’s just my tv being awesome…I dunno lol the attitude people have towards the Wii U though is just vile, pathetic and childish, I’ve seen the worst of the gaming community this year because of it and frankly, I’m ashamed to be thought of as a gamer because of it, the media have been the worst for it with all these articles, I hope Nintendo bounces back from it because they don’t deserve it, people who google it and see those articles are obviously not going to want to buy a Wii U after reading them.

  • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

I want a gaming awards on the scale of the Oscars. Not Disney Channel

  • Dameon Percival

Why is eveyone bitching, this is what the gaming indusrty has come to just look athe rants from fanboys on every site, so, if this is how we choose to behave, then this is what we deserve.

  • Gameonfool

VGX is almost as much an embarrassment to the gaming industry as Nintendo is.

    • NintenScience

Sorry, but, Nintendo Co., Ltd is still widely accepted by gamers.

    • NkoSekirei

ur comment tells us ur a bigger embarrassment just like ur troll friends

      • NintenScience

        xd

    • Patrick Starman

Yes. How DARE Nintendo save the game industry, make innovative hardware, and constantly release high-quality titles. It’s SICKENING!

  • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

The VGA’s (Now VGX) are almost always pretty lame but this year was extremely bad. Maybe that is why they changed the A to an X for XTreme Sucking.

  • Nintendoplaystation

The thing is the show was so crap that had Nintendo shown a Zelda wii u teaser it would have been the highlight of the show, and the most talked about outside of just Nintendo fans which would have been the best thing they would have done in a long time.

    • NkoSekirei

nintendo is saving the new hd zelda trailer for e3 most likely way better then video game award which is not worthy of showing anything good cause that show is a joke

      • Nintendoplaystation

The show is a joke which is why Nintendo should have stolen the show.

  • GariNGB

Im still coming to terms with the fact that I wont ever get those 3 hours back. I nearly turned off about half-way through but decided to stick with it as I was expecting it to improve. Oh how wrong was I!

  • Kev

Unfortunately any consideration that may have been given to a professional awards show was doomed before even reaching the airwaves by virtue of being hosted by the Spike tv network. You can round up the most professional men & women in the gaming industry today and it wouldn’t matter if they conducted themselves with the utmost grace and integrity so long as the association with spike exists. I liken it to a student trying to give a serious lecture on campus with his professor mooning him in the background.

  • Cahone

How can it be an embaressment when nintendo won 2 awards they didn’t even deserve?

    • John Andalora

      1) They won 3 awards.

Well, one of the awards was “Best Nintendo Game,” So it’s not like Sony or Microsoft have a chance there.

      2) The other awards given were Best Handheld (which admit it, the PS Vita only had one entry there) and best casual (which I think AC deserves).

      3) I think when people call it an embarassment, they look at the show as a whole, not just Nintendos part.

This guy is 100% correct the VGX “AWARDS” SUCKED! they should be way more serious than this trash! it should be up to par with the Oscars or at least like the MTV awards.

  • Jared Garcia

The final thoughts were right one. I do deserve better. We all do in the sense that we wanted what’s expected from an award show. Instead it felt like a 3 hour gametrailers video with not so special guests and uninteresting conversations. Also, it wasn’t cool to bring on the journalistic heat towards Reggie. He was promoting the new DK game, not some other game that’s 10 seconds in development.

  • Javier Smith

I agree. At first Joel was kind of funny, but as the show dragged on, his apathetic and negative humor made it clear he didn’t want to be there.

  • Skelterz

You know that show looked like a shambles.

The part that irked me the most is when Reggie said *You guys are never satisfied!* Well Reggie, I would like you to look at every other video game at VGX. A good majority of them (If not all.) are not coming to the Wii U… All you gave us was a new character announcement for Donkey Kong and a release date for that game which was leaked online about a week ago… OF COURSE PEOPLE AREN’T SATISFIED! Not to mention they advertised this like it was the second coming of Jesus Christ. Now, if they had announced a new playable character for SSB4 and a release date of MK8 then I (And I think many others) wouldn’t be complaining. I admit I didn’t watch the entire VGX. I only watched the Nintendo part of it. I’m sorry, but I refuse to sit down and watch what was 3 hours of apparent crap. I could do something much more productive like learn a foreign language… Or watch paint dry…

Reggie made like two comments about his appearance on the VGX’s, and he stated that it was a “new look at an upcoming game”. Everything else that could be considered advertisement was the laundry list of posts made by websites filled with comments and comments of deluded people with false expectations. Plenty of people thought that Metroid or the new Zelda Wii U title was going to be announce despite what Reggie said. Although I agree that there needs to be more reveals soon from Nintendo since there is little 3rd party titles coming to their system, the VGX’s was never going to be the platform for the new titles, and I for one am glad. The show wasn’t even on cable access, The Traffic on Spike’s website and the others streaming it was less than the amount of a Nintendo Direct. I mean honestly the hosts that were hassling Nintendo for more needed something to turn the whole night into something worthwhile. For God’s sake they announced game of the year halfway through the damn show, how many people continued to watch the whole thing after that? Only reason I know is because I had it on silence while I was watching Netflix waiting for something of actual substance to pop up.

All this show really did was further my hatred for that ass hat Joel Mchale, Community is only funny like half the time, but every other thing he does drives me crazy and makes my head spin that those Odd Future guys are anywhere near famous. They are the most untalented, disgusting and ultimately annoying people I think have ever graced a television. The show was a mess, I wasn’t even disappointed with the gaming aspects of it, the cranky reveal would have been solid had it not been for the leaked artwork of the cover, and the new looks at upcoming games was interesting (not really sure how to feel about telltale games take on borderlands, but we shall see). The hosts, all the stupid internet videos basically poking fun at gamers in general, the music, and lack of actual awards really just made hope that this is the last VGA or VGX there will ever be. I know I won’t watch it again.

    REALLY?! THIS IS VGX?!

When people told me they didn’t care much for VGX, and that it was a horrible show, I thought they were just trying to find an excuse as for why Nintendo didn’t decide to showcase something big, but heck, they were right! It sucks!

  • Evan Laundrie

Why you gotta bash Carrot Top? To be fair, I have never once taken the VGX seriously, because I don’t take Spike seriously. VGX is less about honoring those who make games and more about advertising those for those corporations who paid for representation.
