Wii U comes in 5th among Black Friday shoppers according to survey

A sample of Black Friday sales at Walmart and Target has revealed that Wii U captured 6% of sales.

black-friday-console-sales

Black Friday is the biggest event in shopping for the entire year, so sales statistics from these events give us a pretty good look at what items are trending based on consumer rate of purchase. Analyst firm InfoScout performed a survey of several Walmart and Target locations during Black Friday and found that the Xbox One is the most popular console of Black Friday, garnering 31% of purchases.

Sales of the PlayStation 4 weren’t too bad either, with 15% of purchases wracked up. The Wii U sits firmly in 5th place with 6% of purchases in its favor, but one aspect to note is that it is the only next-gen console that outsold its predecessor by a wide margin. Perhaps Reggie is right and consumers do know the difference between Wii and Wii U now.

It should be mentioned that stock for both the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 should be taken into account, as it has been reported that stock of the PlayStation 4 console has been less available than that of the Xbox One. What do you think of these sales statistics?

New generation of consoles and I don’t care what what anybody says, these numbers don’t lie.

    • mar laguna

stupid head number dosent mean that they are the best moron for me only wii u and no one more

      • AAAkabob

W/e bud, not saying this is end of Nintendo. However the Wii U won’t be lasting a second longer than the 5 year cycle if Nintendo has any brains.

        • Wayne Beck

It’s not supposed to. Nintendo makes 5 year consoles. They always have, they always will. Anyone who thinks Nintendo was trying to release a ten year console is a moron.

          • AAAkabob

            the Wii

          • mar laguna

the wii was only 6 years u know right i think you dont even know witch console got more sales in the last generation .-.

          • AAAkabob

            6>5 should’ve been even less than 5

          • Wayne Beck

The Wii was a Five Year console. That is why it stopped selling after 5 years. The Wii U was late. Everyone can see that. If it had been released in 2011, when it was supposed to, it would likely have been a huge hit.

Wii U will do better this Christmas, at least I hope it does.

  • Wren Justin Umlauf

The Wii U wont sell as well as the other consoles. Thats become clear. The general market just isnt in favor of Nintendo anymore, but that doesnt make it a failure. Those that buy a Wii U, myself included, will know how great of a console it is and know that those that havent bought it are missing out. I also believe that fans of the Wii U and Nintendo are the true gamers. Yes you can be a gamer and own the other consoles and a PC and enjoy them, but Nintendo fans have always played more than just a handful of shooters and thats what makes them the true gamers. We play everything.

    • Jack5221

I grew up with a NES. Nintendo needs more appreciation. Something all these 2000′s babies don’t realize is that Nintendo saved the console market. Atari 2600 was the 1st true video game console, but it wasn’t until NES came along that console gaming became extremely popular. The very first few games that came out were Mario Bros, Punch Out, Legend of Zelda. Hardly any first-person shooters.

Wii U is a great system. Everyone I know that has one loves it. My friends that don’t have one and visit my home ALWAYS want to play it. (Especially now that I have Mario 3D World) This day and age kids are growing up with first person shooters. Unlike some of us older guys that had the privilege of the NES, the PS2 babies now dominate the market. :-/

      • Rinslowe

” Unlike some of us older guys that had the privilege of the NES, the PS2 babies now dominate the market. :-/”

And that is perfectly fine by me lol. :) Some willing demographic has to act as body bags to soak all that up! It’s the difference between the foot soldiers and the officers, IMO. Although, we all have to get our hands dirty some of the time, eh. Otherwise, ironically – how to prove being a better soldier takes more than just a gun and a grenade, lol.

  • Jack5221

PS4 / Xbox One hype is still going on, and will probably last until January. Wait until next year thats when the sales are really going to pick up. They’re increasing little by little now, but next year is when they’re going to sky rocket. Think about, PS4 / Xbox One has all the same games as PS3 / 360. They’re going to experience a drought of games next year once all the hype is gone and people realize that you can get ALL the same games as PS4 / One on your PS3 / 360.

    • greengecko007

Drought of games? This isn’t Nintendo… Sony and Microsoft have 3rd parties supporting them in between first party releases.

While it’s true that many games will also be available on last generation consoles, there are plenty of titles that won’t be.

My personal list of games I’m looking forward to that WILL NOT be available on PS3 or Xbox360

      Kingdom Hearts 3
      Elder Scrolls online
InFamous Second Son – PS4 only
      Drive Club – PS4 only
      The Witcher 3
      Final Fantasy 15

      • Jon

ok, FF 15 is listed as after March 2014,Kingdom hearts 3 is the same thing but expected to be even longer. no date actually given, Witcher 3 is just listed at 2014 and there hasn’t been a lot of footage from it, Infamous is March 21. Drive club is early 2014. So those games are not really coming out soon. Really only Elder Scrolls is confirmed for Q1 of 2014, Drive Club… We’ll see, they said early but there was no date so I cannot really call it Q1. Infamous…. ok, yeah Q1 because it is 10 days from the end but pretty not that soon. So, there isn’t really that much coming so it is very possibly you’ll see a drought, maybe not to the extend the Wii U was, but there will be one.

        • greengecko007

My point was that the statement by Jack5221 isn’t true.

“They’re going to experience a drought of games next year once all the hype is gone and people realize that you can get ALL the same games as PS4 / One on your PS3 / 360.”

The games I listed are not coming out on PS3 or 360, and are coming out at different times of the year.

“So those games are not really coming out soon.”

Yes, and that’s the point. If everything came out at once, there WOULD be a drought, but the games are releasing throughout next year.

      • Rinslowe

Has the Witcher 3 been confirmed for next gen? It doesn’t really change that I’ll be playing that on PC most certainly, but never even knew it could be coming to those platforms…

        • greengecko007

Yes, it was confirmed for the PS4 and Xbone One quite a long time ago.

          • Rinslowe

            That’s nice.

  • Martholomew

I wonder what these actual numbers are. The percentages tell us about the competition between the consoles, but not much about the health of the console business itself.

  • NintenScience

    Why?

  • SamusPrime

I think they are BS, no 3DS, no Vita

    • NintenScience

No mention of portable video game consoles.

  • Wayne Beck

This is not a Viable Metric for comparison. Neither of these Stores are console selling powerhouses. Target stocks an average of Four of each console. Playstation pushed it’s stock to Europe black Friday week for it’s launch. Unless Xbox sold an additional 700,000 units in Europe this week, Black Friday sales at two Modest Video Game retailers does mean anything.

As for Wii U, I don’t think anyone was expecting Wii U to be the best selling console on Black Friday. The only metric for comparison here is if Playstation and Xbox can do 3.5 million sales by December 31st and maintain any sense of momentum through January..

  • AkaLink77

That’s weird cuz i seen this while i was on the Walmart site. (day B4 Blk Friday)

  • Alexander Kleinwechter

People please, we shouldnt care about numbers, we get from nintendo everything either way, if people are actually buying a xbox one over a Wii u, then let those dumb rods do that,Im more then fine with my wii u. Has incredible games and free internet wich is a big thing for me atleast. Also wii u still gets 3rd party support!

    • Daniel Gonzalez

“People please, we shouldnt care about numbers”

I agree with this. People shouldn’t care unless the numbers are in Wii U’s favor. :P

      • nexxus6

My question is this: Why is it ok to use numbers that try to demonstrate the “dire” situation of the WiiU or anything negative about Nintendo for that matter, but when people use sales numbers to show how the Wii blew away the PS3 and 360, then we hear the “sales don’t mean anything because the Wii was a gimmick that people grew tired with” argument?

        • Daniel Gonzalez

Well, I would start and say don’t mistake me for Truthteller, because that’s something he or someone of his intelligence can answer really(Just to make things clear). I would say the same thing to those who brag about the PS4 or Xbox One outselling the Wii U, who honest cares. I actually agree with most who say that sales shouldn’t matter, cause that would be true. If you’re happy with your console, then all is good.

I only responded to Alex as I did just in the irony of the question you brought up. It wasn’t anything personal. Truth is, just like Magnus, I love to tease when the occasion calls for it. There’s not much more to it than that. :P

  • Rick van der Linde

I don’t get it. The PS4/X1 aren’t delivering anything new at this point, you can even play all of the games on the current gen, how is that worth $500?

See, 5 downvotes, that’s 5 people that bought a PS4/X1 that are already bored with it and feel the urge to go to a Wii U website to lose some steam :)

    • ScrewAttack

Console kiddies that think they’re hardcore probably make up half of all sales these days.

  • Mj78

The gap between Wii sales and Wii u is interesting to note. Actually, it really isn’t and it just shows that Nintendo can release Mario, Mario Kart etc and the Wii u will still be miles behind.

    • Akatosh

Mario Kart ain’t out yet bro.

      • Mj78

And that will make no difference either. When will people stop being deluded…the facts and figures PROVE that the wii u is a dead duck. It is just a disaster of marketing, PR and hopefully Nintendo will learn from what has been a huge mistake

        • Akatosh

Even if Wii U fails all over the world its numbers will still rise in its home country regardless.

The Wii is making Wii U look bad. The Wii U is probably going to be just as good if not better then the GC.

Forget about the freak accident of the Wii.

  • Zuxs13

See this seems rather in accurate since its already reported the PS4 has out sold the Xbox, but maybe this is only a snap shot of weekend buyers and not those who pre-ordered etc.

    • http://about.me/overlordror Ashley King

That’s exactly what this is. It’s a snapshot of Black Friday sales and nothing else.

      • Zuxs13

I wonder why the Xbox has so much more stock on black Friday than the PS4

        • Jon

well, it isn’t too uprising as a lot of people would have gotten their PS4 already as it was out 2 weeks before black Friday where as the Xbox was only out for a week.

      • Jon

you know, there is one thing that kind of makes me question this data. The Xbox360 did better than the PS4, almost just as good as the Xone. Now, the Price difference for the Xone and 360 are about $300 while the PS3 and PS4 are about $200. So I don’t understand here why people are so much more willing to upgrade to a Xone when it is an extra $100 compared to the PlayStation and why people who have a PS3 are not more willing to upgrade when the difference is cheaper. Is this indicating that people that play Xbox probably have more cash to do so? Also the fact that people have been hyped up over “next gen” and yet apparently a last gen console sells about double one of the PS4… It just makes me question the data as the logic of this… seems flawed.

Here is the account information that can be blacklisted:

          IP (Example: ???.??.???.?)
          Username (Example: Untitled)
          Email (Example: someone@example.com)
          Domain (Example: example.com)

          • Jon

There’s just so many ways to look at these numbers, it’s not even funny. Let me get this out of the way. It’s a irrefutable fact that Wii U sold less than all except the Wii. Not that’s said and done… How many XB1′s were on hand vs PS4′s? If each store had a small number on hand or next to nothing, then 30 some odd percent of a small number is negligible (I mean that’s what they say about the Wii U numbers when sales go up about 1000%) Though I will say that take that 30 percent and multiply it by X number of stores, that can rack up to a decent amount of systems moved.

The other thing is that XB1 and PS4 are brand new systems.. of course everyone wants one now, just how Wii U’s initial stock sold out over last holiday. Also, it doesn’t surprise me that the 360 and the PS3 did so well, as they had amazing deals and bundles everywhere for them.. (most likely to purge what stock they had to make room for the new hotness) Like I said in another article, almost everyone that wanted an Wii has one and the Wii market is saturated, so it doesn’t surprise me with its low number.

    • greengecko007

I don’t get what you mean here.

“If each store had a small number on hand or next to nothing, then 30 some odd percent of a small number is negligible”

The percentages are how much each item contributed to sales. For every 100 consoles sold, 31 of them were Xbox One, and 6 of them were Wii U.

      • JB

What I’m trying to say (in which reading back, I didn’t make clear enough lol) is stock on hand is dictating the numbers.

Using the “every 100 consoles sold” metric, PS4 is outselling the XB1, so limited availability would indicate that there may have been more XB1′s in stock at the time than PS4′s. Likewise with the Wii U. Most stores don’t stock them as heavily as the other consoles. I’d be hard pressed to find more than 3-5 on hand with every visit I make to Target or Walmart. They could have very well sold out of Wii U’s, but because they didn’t have very many in stock in the first place, it kind of skews the numbers.

Hopefully that makes more sense than what I wrote before.

        • greengecko007

Yes, that makes a lot more sense, as stock distribution would obviously affect how many could even be sold.

        • http://ejercitogeek.net/ Mercurio2054

go to wallmart and amazon, both have out of stock the Wii U.

  • Jon

Ok…. so the Xone sells better than the X360 which is a $300 difference but the PS3 sells better than the PS4 which is a $200 difference??

    Now I am confused.

  • http://wiiudaily.com/ Monomon

    Oh no,they made a HUGE mistake!Look at the logo where Wii U stands!NO U!

  • Ducked

Why are so many people buy a Xbox One? I can understand PS4, because it has a bright future with exclusives, and it’s cheaper. But Xbone?

    • NintenScience

I know right? It is ironic.

      • Guest

        @budew:disqus

    • Jon

I was curious too, even more that the X360 did better than the PS4. I just find it strange how the Xone did better than the 360 as well when the PS3 did better than the PS4…. something isn’t really adding up I don’t think.

      • Jacob D. Taylor

I’m really curious about this as well. I understand the Xbone and PS4 being new releases so that’s going for it. Then the 360 and the PS3 probably have greater deals going for it since they’re not new and then Wii U is somewhere in between with no deals and no hype… then there’s the Wii that everyone already has so no need. Lol

        • Chris Wells

Free games with the system isn’t a deal?

          • TheAquacharger

compared to say the XBOX 360 and PS3 who offered their systems cheaper, with XBOXLIVE and PSN+ for a month, and two games. It’s not much of a deal, but MS and Sony can do that because those systems have made their money.

          • Jacob D. Taylor

It’s a “deal” yes, but it’s not a DEAL. So getting a bundle with 2 games… is it a deal? Yes. Will that SAME deal be here next weekend as well? Yes. PS360, $100 plus 2 games, plus a controller? Deal? HELL YES. Here next week? Probably not. That’s all

          • Jacob D. Taylor

Correct. Those systems have already made their quota. From here on out it’s just free revenue/profit

      • Stephen Macneil

It’s only because there were no ps4′s available black friday.

      • Wayne Beck

It’s because these two stores aren’t big console movers. They sell what they have in stock. Walmart may be the biggest retailer in the Country, but they still only stock a limited supply of Consoles. The Xbox One outsold the others only because the store had more of them.

    • JB

I bought the XBox One, and I love the damn thing. Then again, I also bought the PS4, so there’s that. Lol

My Wii U still gets the lion’s share of my attention

      • Ducked

Most of the reasons people have given me is media capabilities. I don’t think this will last, because gaming system ultimately comes down to one thing. “The games”

        • sillybajillies

It’s really loyalty. The XBOX 360 launched much cheaper than the PS3, so a lot of people bought it as a gift for kids (and for themselves cause it was the cheaper system). When so many people had it, why switch?

A lot of Wii owners ended up purchasing the other systems too for games that weren’t on them and ended up sticking with those systems. People are just buying the successor to the one they already preferred.

          • Ducked

Buying the successor to those two consoles makes zero sense. Since neither of them are backwards compatible.

          • sillybajillies

The only things that keep me glued to Nintendo are Nintendo exclusives and loyalty. I can see why an XBOX or PS fan would pick the other systems and even why a first time buyer would.

    • Daniel Gonzalez

It’s okay, the ones that did are probably the 12 year old kids that scream and cry in your ear during CoD. Sales will be back to normal shortly.

Man, you can command your entire homeroom with an X1. Like “Xbox, turn on my TV”, “Xbox, get me a beer”, “Xbox, turn on my WiiU”.

      • Baum 「ツリー」

It’s apparently not as easy as you say though.
I know of some People (that don’t like the kinect in general), that said it’s kinda cool, but for now it’s for almost every task faster to just use the Controller to navigate through the menus.

        • Jacob D. Taylor

Yeah, this is my problem. I don’t like having to rely on a spotty voice or motion command to pause a loud and obnoxious game when the phone’s ringing. Not very sensible. At the end of the day it comes down to buttons.

          • JB

I can’t say that I’ve had that much of a problem navigating via voice. Though the motion controls really needs work. The main problem like you said is if something is particularly loud, the kinect has hard time hearing you, which requires you to scream at it at lol. Also there’s the issue of the rigid set of commands you have to say verbatim. Of course the benefit of that is you’ll tend not to say something that will accidentally active the thing.

I will say that I’m glad the PS eye isn’t required for the PS4 and I probably won’t get one, as I already have too many things cluttered around my TV between both Kinects and Wii U sensor bar.

          • GuardiansFan

if you configure the audio properly loud movies/games should not affect its ability to hear your voice. i have had better luck in some cases saying something more clearly and less loud. your sound system must be set pretty high :)

          • Dylan Groot

You can leave the Kinect inside the box also if you wanted to…

          • Jacob D. Taylor

            Still paid $100 for it.

          • Marcos Parreira

I heard the kinect 2 had the same amount of investment as the Xbox One did. So yeah… $250

          • Jacob D. Taylor

Wow! Is it really that high a cost? That’s ludicrous… well no wonder it was required ;) who would buy it on it’s own at a $250 price tag!

          • Jacob D. Taylor

I like that PS4 is giving the option as well. XBone would have been a much more compelling offer if the Kinect had been optional.

        • GuardiansFan

i cant find my tv remote half the time…believe me its faster to say “xbox pause” to pause a movie im watching than to find the darn remote and then hit pause :)

        • NintenScience

I’m waiting for YOU to STOP downvoting me.

    • peeer

To start with… Xbox One is americain, so its quite normal that it gains more sales in america on a black friday.

PS4 cheaper? yeah perhaps… But think about it… Xbox One comes with the kinect thing out of the box. PS4′s PSmove is not included out of the box like Xbox One. For some peoples that fact cuts it enough to say they get a better deal with the Xbox One. Sure, some other peoples don’t care about that kinect thing and for them the PS4 might be the way to go. But I’m saying all this just to show that it all depends how you view it as a deal…

Besides… For now we just get the launch sales figures, its way too early to even discuss anything about next gen. So I wouldn’t worry too much about it at this time. And like Ashley stated, the PS4 suffers from lack of stock availability… If you miss-read it ;)

      • Rinslowe

I’d actually be surprised if the majority of prospective PS4 owners are too worried about Playstation Camera or see much value in Kinect. But I could be wrong.

        • peeer

Prospective PS4 owners? Just to make clear, here I was only talking about what can make peoples think they are getting a deal or not. Which is not only about PS4 or Xbox One alone, it goes about the prospective of “Xbox One or PS4″ owners. Alot of peoples are still unsure what to buy and they usually weight the pros and cons like that. I was only sharing a point of view that some peoples might have and I’m pretty sure some peoples see’s it that way. Its all about marketing you know.

          • Rinslowe

I know what you mean. Even still, I think there’s little perceived value in Kinect from a consumer perspective at least for the majority of consumers anyway… PS4 still looks like the better deal to most. And it shows in global sales which are certainly in Sony’s favour overall. My point being in light of a lack of value in Kinect, from a marketing point of view makes the system look that much more expensive. Not only that but people looking to buy a PS4 are not worried too much about Playstation Camera (at least not right now), meaning PS4′s marketing of 399.00 looks to be the better deal overall for both those reasons.

          • peeer

But again these numbers we see here in this news can’t be accurate global sales as there is not only USA in the world. I have a site I watch for the sales stats and at time of writing this they only have the system sales stats for up to November 23rd. PS4 was only released in America at that time, so for now its hard to tell. Specially because the Xbox One only had 1 day launch on those sales stats.

Plus we are still in the launch window for these platforms… After holidays the sales should stabilise, we will get a better idea at whats the best selling system in 2014.

          • Rinslowe

Lol, as far as I’m concerned these no’s could very well represent the total amount of candy floss in Texas. I was not referring to this survey only. This survey being bogus on account of 3000 random or not so random receipts, which is hardly going to be accurate, my good man. Not even close. Not sure how you even came to that conclusion tbh…

            But… Ookay! Moving on. :)

          • peeer

I wasn’t saying about this survey only because of you tho, I just wanted to make it clear to everyone else too. Actually I was specially saying that for now the sales stats we see are only an overview from what we will see next week and next week after that ect… Sorry for confusion tho lol.

          • Rinslowe

I don’t think this survey very well represents anything except that of 3000 people who bought stuff in two places decided to take part in a survey… PS4 has won the unit sales battle, globally. MS will try to skew that fact for as long as possible until those facts in favour of Sony cannot be refuted. No confusion, no issues. We’re all fellows here! :)

          • peeer

Yeah well globally Sony is already more popular so, just for that fact yeah they will win globally. But America alone tho I think microsoft still has hopes… At least if it gets the same kind of success the 360 had. Because Xbox systems always have more successes in America compared to other continents.

          • Rinslowe

One thing I will give to MS is IF they can continue selling comparatively to Sony stateside, they will undoubtedly be far better off financially speaking. Seeing as though their console is priced closer to breaking even than PS4 will be for a long time to come…

          • peeer

I doubt the Xbox One will have the success they expect it to have tho… If you consider the Prism Scandal Microsoft have been involved into with those major USA websites like facebook ect… and also Xbox One forces you to have a camera/mic hooked to it, like wtf? >_<

I mean… Its not like they put it on a controler like the Wii U where you can't pull the plug to remove it. How in hell can a system require it to work if you can decide to disable these fonctions on the system menu when its a separate box that could completely be unplugged away? I don't get it… Unless there is something I have missed somewhere and its not exactely like I think? I don't know, but thats the shadiest thing about the Xbox One I have a beef with.

In my opinion, thats a factor that might give a great advantage to PS4 as it don't even come with a camera/mic, its actually the only system from next gen to not have it bundled.

      • Ducked

I had forgotten about the stock with PS4. I really believe now Xbone will die off on the coming months. The average consumer I’ve dealt with is so easy, by that I mean the store says their out of PS4′s, and then they’ll be like “Oh I’ll just get a Xbox One”.

It’s kinda like back in 2002-2004, PS2 was dominating, and when they were sold out basically everywhere, people would just get the Xbox or GameCube.

      • GamerZzon

Even if you bought the Playstation Camera, the PS4 would still be cheaper. And you can unplug it when you don’t wanna use it.
I got the second last PS4 in my town Thanksgiving night.

        • peeer

I wasn’t specifically talking about the camera although I know PS Move is composed of a camera. I don’t know if you have an idea of what all you need in order to use PS Move… It also requires a standard PlayStation Move controller and a navigation controller… It ends up pretty close to that 100$ if not more and needless to say if you need more controllers for multiplayer…

I know the actual PS Move is compatible with the PS4 from what I see on ign.com. I don’t know if Sony is planning to make a version 2 for PS4 like Xbox One with Kinect 2. But if peoples looking to have those motion gameplay they can have it for 500$ on the Xbox One compared to the PS4 for 400$ that is not bundled with it.

        • sd

You can turn off kinect. Also Sony have clearly stated in their terms and conditions that they have the right to listen into and collect all and any forms of communication made over their network.

Now this isnt me having a dig at sony as I like their consoles and I will be adding the PS4 to my collection early next year. But it is something to bare in mind. All consoles have their merits and flaws

    • Jack5221

People bought more Xbox because more of them are in stock. Sony just released PS4 in Europe, so most of their supply went to Europe while Xboxs main supply is located only in the US at this point.

      • Ducked

        I know now, I forgot

    • http://www.gamesobscura.com/ themizarkshow

At least around my area, you could find some XBO consoles. The PS4′s are gone as soon as they arrive.

    • GuardiansFan

i bought the xbox one for its media capabilities first…also if you look at the games out there right now the launch lineup is better on the xbox one. Yes the Xbox one is more expensive but having used it the Kinect is more than worth the extra cost.

and i have no idea what your talking about…the xbox one has plenty of exclusives

Its a great console. Kinect voice controls are much better than I had imagined and make surfing the internet and watching dvds on consoles so much easier.

      • NintenScience

        lol

      • GamerZzon

        Said no one ever.

        • sd

You need a life. I like it, as do many others. When you have purchased an x-1 tehn you have a right to moan about the features. If you think surfing the net on a games console is easier and better with a controller and its poor typing interface then you are mistaken. Its easier just to speak the name of a site and then the name of a link. Once the kinks have been ironed out this will be the way most devices will work in the future.

    • brian murphy

because they had more xbox ones to sell my guess thats from what i seen at the stores here

    • bizzy gie

Because there were many more in stock because it wasn’t selling as much as or as fast as PS4.

    • Wayne Beck

Console launches always sell out. These hard the hardcore techies and fanboys. The million consoles Xbox has sold are not to the average consumer. We won’t know if it has staying power until January.

  • Doron

Do you think mario is enough to save the Wii U’s future?

Most people here seem to think otherwise:

    http://opi.cc/O6g8cKRDLb18mkC5

    • Daniel Gonzalez

      Mario alone won’t, no.

      • NintenScience

Why would a user downvote you?

        • Daniel Gonzalez

          They’re user abusers.

          • NintenScience

            lmao

      • NintenScience

They will also require The Legend of Zelda, Pikmin, Star Fox, F-Zero, Donkey Kong, and the new video games (Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2, X)…

        • Daniel Gonzalez

          Exactly.

    • Rinslowe

It’s enough to create a surge in sales sure, though for how long is anyone’s guess. But the important thing in following that, is how Nintendo manages maintaining that trend. Looking at next years first party line up, it seems pretty likely that they’ll do it. But releasing those titles on time is the most important factor, to ensuring from an operational perspective they do everything consistently to maximise their chances. Any delays in DK, Kart, Smash, X or even Bayo 2 and they’ll be back at square one. It doesn’t take rocket science to understand “why” Wii U has had a decent 3 months sales globally, since the release of Pikmin 3, WWHD, Wii Party U (Japan) etc… and SM3DW of course. In any case 2014 looks like a stunner for Wii U owners! :)

  • Fred

I think I’m discouraged. I love the Wii U, but I’m wondering if game development for it will slowly fade into the darkness. Remember the last 2 years of the Wii? Will the 3rd year of the Wii U be like that?

    • NkoSekirei

nope wat reggie just said on the last article their will be plenty of games coming for the wii u next year especially the big hitters

      • Fred

        Cool thanks

    • Akatosh

Only if Wii U V.2 comes out then. Nintendo isn’t going to just drop dead on game development.

      • Fred

        I hope you’re right

        • Akatosh

Thousands of Nintendo employees around the world depend on Nintendo for life. Saying Nintendo is just simply going to stop making games is stupid and impractical. Too many lives on the line.

          • Fred

I’m not concerned they’d stop making games. My concern is that they’d stop or basically stop making Wii U games. They’d never stop making 3DS games with how popular that thing it, but look at the last 2 years of the wii. If I remember correctly, in 2 year Nintendo put out 2 games, Skyward Sword and Mario Party 9 (I guess technically Xenoblade in North America, but they didn’t develop that game in the last 2 years we just finally got it then)

          • Akatosh

Stopping on the Wii U line is not an option because over 4 million expectant Wii U fans would be MASSIVELY disappointed and pi**ed if Nintendo just wrote off a system they dropped $300+ on. Nintendo has no choice. They have to push out the games for the Wii U. Just like they pushed out games for the GC.

  • Krzysztof

It’d be completely different story if wii u had ps3 price tag.

  • CEObrainz

It will be nice to compare the number of sales from now till January. If sales don’t pick up that much then we may have another GameCube on our hands, which is fine by me. I think Nintendo will make enough sales this generation to release a decent collection of entertaining games and still have enough profit to develop and release another console in time for the PS5 and the next Xbox, even if it is a year ahead of their launches.

    • Rinslowe

To be fair to Wii U, it had a very promising launch and sold probably a good 76% of lifetime sales in the first three months… (Shame the momentum stalled from late first party launch titles and some less than great third party ports). Still, at 4m + Wii U has a community now and it’s just a matter of Nintendo continuing to grow that community. By the look of 2014′s line up of first party games, it seems they’re pretty clear about that too. If Wii U becomes another Gamecube, ultimately that’s fine with me… Personally I think it’ll do better, but by how much I wouldn’t know. Still Gamecube was in fact a great little console with some of the coolest games of that generation. N64 was the same thing and some of those games led to a mold of popular titles today. Nintendo’s coffers are pretty robust, but they’ll likely be the most profitable again as a company this generation if we were to compare as gaming divisions only. 14+ billion in net capital will see them well into the next, next generation and as of “in the now” Wii U is hardly bleeding profits.

  • tronic307

Oh well, it looks like Truthteller finally bit the dust.

  • Jared Garcia

Nintendo needs to work wit third party on making commercials with Wii U included on their games supported list so it’s not just X1 and PS4.

  • Gameonfool

must be hard being the least popular

  • WhataShame

Interesting… or not. All I know is that several of the Walmarts near me were wiped out of Wii Us, and if you look at most of the bundles online, they are sold out… along with a few key games and the pro controller.

    • Jacob D. Taylor

That’s good news. I haven’t kept up to date on any local stores so I rely heavily on these sort of sites. Problem being that one will say Xbox One sells out worldwide at 100,000,000 sales and then you have another that ends the truth for Sony… it’s all about opinion in the end really until we have some cold hard figures.

      • http://ejercitogeek.net/ Mercurio2054

  • Nintenjoe82

Thank God for Wii U Daily. I’d forget the Wii U was struggling if it wasn’t for your daily sales figures updates!!!

On a more serious note, couldn’t this just be MS propaganda? Seems weird distribution of figures. Not really that awful for Wii U. Could be worse.

  • Rinslowe

I think it’s perfectly understandable Xbox One and PS4 are in hot demand right now, having just released. The possibility of being sold out etc… I also believe it’s perfectly understandable that both Xbox 360 and PS3 are in high demand as well, look at those prices. Those are smart people. Massive library of AAA hits and cheap as chips. Still, would be nice knowing the actual figures to help put things in better perspective.

Edit: 3000 receipts…. hmmm, what to think of this survey? lol

Still, for those peeps who were big enough to buy last gen systems, congrats! I think for the holiday season 360 and PS3 are the smartest choices for those that somehow managed to miss last gen altogether. Those systems holding more value to a gamer than either of the other three next gen consoles in terms of content alone. Though of course, buy more Wii U’s PEOPLE! :)

  • Jacob D. Taylor

I just saw a post that said we shouldn’t care about numbers. I agree. Why do we care what other gamers/people play? They can and should have the right to buy whatever they want. Just like we have the right to like Nintendo products. I’ve reached the point where I just can’t tolerate people who want to see Nintendo burn anymore. I like their products as much as you like your games of preference… so please, let me be!

  • Will (ishigum)

Must have been a very small sample. The PS4 is on top of everyone’s shopping list this year.

  • Gabe Hoffman

Note that this survey is only from 3000 people and is based off verified receipts mainly

    • Rinslowe

Interesting. Yeah checked out the link and there it was. Nice spotting.

    • Wren Justin Umlauf

Good catch. Yeah I don’t see how these surveys are very accurate. 3000 people is almost nothing when comparing it to the entire US. I wonder what the percentages would look like if it was possible to get every single sale

    • NkoSekirei

this is why we dont trust surveys that often if only covers a small percentage of this country and not the whole

      • NintenScience

        NkoSekirei is back!

        • NkoSekirei

ive been here for a long time since this site started

      • NintenScience

        Note: Truthteller got banned!!!!

        lol

        • NkoSekirei

well serves him right and about time i mean seriously they need to start banning trolls right off the bat and not let it go to far

  • DOLBYdigital

I am also surprised at the xbone getting the most sales. Unless it’s just because of stock issues, it seems to me that the PS4 is the better option between PS/XB… huh… oh well, as long as the good games still come to PC, I will be happy. The Wiiu/PC combo is a great way to experience most of the available games without missing out on much.

  • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

I dont think these are real statistics. these came out like, the day after black friday. I want actual numbers from the companies.

  • Virus6

It’s really weird considering the Target I work at had three sitting on the shelf this morning.

  • Simon Stevens

Now TV – 9.99 entertainment box, FU Microsoft

  • fireheartis1

I know my Walmart is a small part of the pie, but when it came too all the versions of AC4 the Wii U ones sold out right away, and the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One versions had about 10 left of each console. All versions had 20 copies each and all 20 of them on the Wii U sold. I was so mad because having to work at that time I messed my chance of getting the game I wanted for Black Friday. Oh well at least 20 people got their hands on a really cool game.

    • Quicksilver88

Awesome game…got it at launch and stilling playing it….WiiU very xlose to ps4 version with great offTV and mapping.

  • wober2

While i really want nintendo to succeed with the wiiu, I really hope this is a bit of a wake up call for nintendo. Mario 3d world is a great game but they have been giving us so many mario titles lately. I really hope they still have it in them to give us something surprising and perhaps new.

  • readypembroke

Note that it was a sample not actual sales. Nintendo needs to advertise during shows like The Walking Dead and Big Bang Theory, Nintendo could get a good bang for their buck. Explain the differences in plain flat out English, not the small kids in the current ads. Show Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros for Wii U, show Mario Bros U and even Call of Duty Ghosts. Tell about compatibility with old Wii games and Wii controllers. Also talk about the FREE online play, this could be a weakness against the PS4 and Xbox One. Try to make it from 30 seconds to 45 seconds. Put it on YouTube so Nintendo fans could comment on it and if they like it, put it on tv. Try to keep it interesting so people wouldn’t change the channel and possibly put Reggie in it. If you need to, make it bigger or divide the ad into 2 huge chunks.

    • fireheartis1

Better yet give the producers of Big Bang Theory a Wii U for the guys to play on the show. Now that would get people wanting to buy a Wii U for sure.

  • readypembroke

Also, the good part about the chart is the Wii U is selling more which could possibly mean that people are Wiied out and also possibly that the Wii U ads could be paying off a little bit.

  • Akatosh

I like how you can look at this and see something optimistic in it. I watched a video on this yesterday and it was all bad news.

Hey, at least the Wii U was selling.

  • lonewolf88

guys don’t believe these retarted charts….there most likely filled with every fanboy you can think of and not the normal consumers the ps4 has not sold that big yet and for a good reason wait for the real stuff.

  • lonewolf88

hey guys just found out nintendo just got 3rd place in cyber monday deals so wtf@!!!! is wiiudaily trolling or what because that makes me really pissed off that they could of also put that up but nope got to put the bad…

  • Zorlac79

That is crazy, since at the Wal-mart and Target in my area there were no PS4s and a handful of Xones at both locations, and that was around 5 on Friday that I finally went out.

    • Rinslowe

Always take any survey with a grain of salt. And such a loosely controlled one like factoring in no’s based on receipts is dubious to be sure lol! Any no’ of hidden motivators could have been present. But I’ll stop there to avoid entertaining full blown conspiracy theories. :)

      • nexxus6

I agree. Surveys can always be framed to get a desired result. I am not saying this is what happened, but it is reason enough to be wary of any survey.

  • Jonathan George Anaya

The X1 has games that people want to play TODAY. The PS4′s Software Library is 95% PS3 ports… Who wants to spend $400 on a Flower Remake or Knack? (sorry for your loss, Ashley. But, are you enjoying your Ps4?).
I wanted a Wii U. Still do, actually. But all this doom and gloom is keeping me away for the time being. I don’t want to buy a console only for Nintendo to pull the plug on it. I’m someone who actually HAD a virtual boy because I believed in the potential. I’ve never made that same mistake again since then… I want the games to Blow Me away before purchasing new consoles

    • nexxus6

Buy the WiiU if you want it. You need not worry about Nintendo pulling the plug on this system. Nothing good would come to Nintendo if they were to do that.

      • Xavier Lopez Chabelo

If they pulled the plug well… I see a new SEGA right there.

But naaa… that would a stupid choice

    • Xavier Lopez Chabelo

Well the reason is simple, with the PS4 and the X1 you will have tons of third party games and excellent first party titles.

The Wii U will have excellent first party titles (even better than those 2), but the lack of thid party support, bad marketing, and a SuperBombing Game for the casual gamers are the reasons why the Wii U is selling poorly.

I mean… Fuck, Even Knack is selling more than Super Mario 3D World

I have my Wii U and Im happy with it, but with games like Final Fantasy XV and KH III skipping my console its obvious that I will buy one of the others, PS4 is already my first option as my secondary console. But I need like 2 or 3 years to gather enough money XD

  • Joseph Parsons

weres Black Friday for gamestop for wii u

  • GuardiansFan

    this is obviously US sales….

im shocked to see how crappy your deals were in the US…here in Canada you could find TONS of Wii U system deals (where you got free gift cards). You could even buy a 360 for 120.00 with a free 30.00 gift card at various locations…

at Target you could even combine 2 different gift card deals to get 45.00′s worth of gift card for buying a 360 for only 120.00

  • Joseph Parsons

i dont go to Walmart and Target for games

  • asymptoteman

I work at Target and during the main rush from 8pm to 11pm we had 10 Wii U consoles, 12 xbox one consoles and 1 PS4. We sold our PS4, 9 Wii U’s and 1 Xbox One. But then again That is just at my store.

  • Lewis Te Whaiti

I will be the first to admit that I balked at buying a Wii U because of its specs. But 2 weeks ago I found an 8gb model selling for $279.00nzd with sensor bar 2 free games and wiimote. That translates into $250.00aud with all the goodies. I then went and bought a 500gb hd for extra storage $67.00nzd and Assassins Creed 3 $49.00 a grand total of $395.00nzd or $355.28aud/$323.3usd to me that was too good to pass up rock on Nintendo I’m back on board, and my daughter loves it. What can beat that deal from any other games console, And the games to come, I can’t wait!

  • Matthew Stapleton

Ok, as a guy who works for Wal-Mart, and in electronics. The reason for those figures (at least in my store) are that we were hoarding allocations of the Spybox and PS4. After both launches the stock we were given were pulled to prepare for the sale. With the Wii U, we went into the event sale (as Walmart calls it) with only our normal stock in the display case. Our store moved less Nintendos than that of the competition due to lack of stock. Not enough systems were ordered.

Like I said in that other post about the UK sales. Honestly people this is to be expected. These consoles JUST released with a TON of HYPE created by tons of paid ads and tech fanboys/gadget whores.. The Hype machine is going full steam ahead on them and there’s a lot of pre-orders. So I expected them to outsell the WII U in the week or two, maybe even in the first couple of months. But once the hype dies down then we’ll see where we’re really at. Note that the fastest selling console previously in the UK was the PSP and how did that fair against the DS in the long run? The DS destroyed it. Like I said lets wait till the hype goes down. When we’re around April/May if they are still outselling WII U then I’ll be willing to say they got it as far as sales this Hardware gen. Also WII U outsold PS4 last according to VGChartz

First off, InfoScout is tabulating info from two mobile apps, which requires shoppers to have one of those mobile apps on their phones. There were only 3,000 shoppers surveyed (again though, these are shoppers with the app which may or may not have any impact on the age and income range of the shoppers). There were 83,000 receipts scanned to gather this info (which while a hell of a lot is still limited to the people using these apps which is only 125,000 of millions of smartphone users in the U.S.). While that may allow for a wide pool of data there again is limited info on the shoppers given. This is nothing close to official sales numbers, so don’t get too excited or depressed over these numbers.

To everyone who is confused you are forgetting the most important factor
Americans are probably the most patriotic country in the world

Wow thats garbage i know people who hate playstation 4 and xbox one mainly on xbox one because there’s no data management on the console so you can’t delete saves or game data no thank you

People know the difference from Wii to Wii U…and still don’t care.

Part of the problem may also be gamer parents that buy into the hype nonsense. I was at Toys R Us on Saturday when many black friday deals were still active, like the Wii U Skylander’s bundle for only $260 (we got one of those). And in the gaming section there was a little boy with his parent’s and the little boy said he wanted a Wii U. His mom asked why when he already has an Xbox and he said because it had better games. His dad promptly responded by laughing and saying no, the Wii U is /NOT/ better than Xbox. Mind you that this kid was like 5 or 6, so the selection of games that are actually age appropriate for him are by far more available on the Wii U than any other home console. The father then perused the selection of Xbox games.

Honestly, the fact that the “value” system didn’t hit parents at Wal-Mart and Target speaks volume. I love my Wii U but it’s toast.

Maybe you are looking at a different chart, but the one I’m looking at shows that it didn’t come in last.

What personal satisfaction do you gain by doing this every day? I’m dead serious.

So do you think I’m a paid promotor or employee of Nintendo?

  • NintenScience

    Such as Wal-Mart Stores, Inc?

  • Rick van der Linde

Yes I know, the Wii U is dead, we are all kids and you are awesome.
