Check out these pictures of the Wii U developer console

Here's a quick gallery of the Wii U developer console that has been issued to official Nintendo developers.

wii-u-dev-4

We’ve seen a few glimpses of Wii U dev kits when the console was slated for release, but this is one of the first times we’ve seen a developer console ready to go. Notice the outputs for the GamePad. The colors used for the Wii U developer console are the same used for the Wii developer console, which is that deep almost forest green.

This is a nifty look at the developer console that Nintendo handed out to a few developers. With more indie developers joining the ranks of official Nintendo Developers, there will certainly be more of these in the wild. If you want to see more pictures, be sure and check out the NeoGAF thread here.

  • CEObrainz

I know a few people in a group who will be getting one of these, hoping to make a few RPG titles.

    • Jon

RPG titles…..would be so nice. People keep claiming how they don’t do well but…. no one has really given them much of a chance since the after the SNES era when Square mostly went Sony. Then the few RPG titles that do end up getting released, they do well but there isn’t enough for people say they actually do well.

      • Gameonfool

yeah if i remember RPG’s kinda started (consoles) on nintendo.

      • CEObrainz

Yea I had a chance to see what there were doing (on PC) and it looks like a cross between Fire Emblem and Valkyria Chronicles II.

  • Pucker

    Interesting.

  • Sdudyoy

Now I want a green Wii U gamepad.

    • Madmagican

Well to be fair it’s only green on the back…

      • Sdudyoy

Yeah, but I want an all green Gamepad.

        • Ducked

          I wouldn’t mind a Luigi gamepad

          • Mario

            And a Mario gamepad?

          • DarkLegacy

With a red console? Oh yes!

          • Mario

            Yeah!

          • Ducked

            YES!

          • DarkLegacy

            Let’s buy it!

          • Ducked

            Lets hope they make it

          • DarkLegacy

I’m hoping for that too, which is why I’m getting excited to see a red Wii U console. And speaking of excited I want to tell you something about that

            http://projectcrystallis.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/cdtl3nbecbni.jpg

          • Ducked

Are you looking to buying a Wii U? And it be nice if Square Enix brought KH3 to wiiu

          • DarkLegacy

SE should’ve brought KH3 on Wii U before it was announced and it wouldn’t have to go on Xbox one. And I would like to buy another Wii U in a different colour

          • Ducked

            Even better?

          • Squid

You got your own Wii, it’s your brothers turn bro.

          • Mario

            Awwww!

        • http://ejercitogeek.net/ Mercurio2054

          it’s like green mate… i like it a lot.

    • Zakariyya Al-Quran

Why not a Mario Gamepad with a Mario Galaxy U bundle?

      • Matteo Ferrazzi

that would cost upwards of $180.
there will never be gamepad bundles, they make no financial sense and few games support two [and no more] gamepads anyway

        • Zakariyya Al-Quran

I meant a Wii U console with a Mario game pad and maybe a star themed 2nd player remote w/ Mario Galaxy U if that is ever released which I want sooooooo bad.

          • Matteo Ferrazzi

oh. sorry about that. still, mario galaxy u is never going to be a thing. it’s too soon for nostalgia for that game

          • Zakariyya Al-Quran

Yeah, I know, they really should release it though, they did though I remember them saying that they may consider it becuase on Wii it was amazing and the sequal was rated game of the generation so yeah

          • olajuwon_patterson

you know miyamoto said they haven’t gave up super mario galaxy they were just working on super mario 3D world so it is a possibility

          • Matteo Ferrazzi

yeah well that’s probably something for the next gen, or a spinoff on the 3ds. very doubtful it will be on the wii u.

    • Alienfish

I’d settle for the white and green design. I wish we could personalize faceplates. :

      • Guest

Yeah, I think It’s a big miss not to be able to personalize the faceplate, they could sale lots of different face plates instead of making Gamepad bundles.

  • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

    I want a green Wii U :(

    • DarkLegacy

What about a golden Wii U?

      • Magnus Eriksson

        Golden Wee U?

        • DarkLegacy

Is that a joke? Besides, I see what you did there

        • Rinslowe

Hahaha! Dude I was thinking the exact same thing when I read @Sorahearts and lo and behold – Magnus writes it….

Free showers for all Anti Nintendo fanboys everywhere! Get your golden Wee U’s here people. hmmm hmm hmm….

“Pissing on the competition since like forever” @nintendo 2014 logo’s

          • DarkLegacy

I’d rather have a competiton where people have to hold there wee in as long as they can to win a Wii U

          • Rinslowe

That would be too cruel to those that truly want one. Not healthy to do that btw…
Anti Nintendo fanboys on the other hand… Well they could always just win a photo of a Wii U, lol.

          • DarkLegacy

Yeah I should’ve remembered that my brother tried to hold his wee in until class ends when we were in HS a couple of years ago. After class he got ill, but he was able to go to the toilet for a wee

          • Rinslowe

Well, glad to know your brother was ok, lol… :)

          • DarkLegacy

He was okay when we arrived home from the doctor. And surprising he had 3 weeks off from HS

      • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

        hrm… or chrome!

        • DarkLegacy

          Hmm. Chrome sounds alright

          • Erik

            Or Platinum.

          • DarkLegacy

Nice. I could’ve said that earlier

          • Erik

But you have to consider this though.. making it either a solid, silver, gold, or platinum will take up a pretty penny than just your normal average cost.. say maybe a solid gold Wii U will be upwards about $800 (depending on its karat count) and a platinum Wii U Will be more near the thousands.

          • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

            Everything’s chrome in the future!

          • DarkLegacy

I’m using Chrome on my computer right now

          • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

            me too!

    • palomino blue

      Orange Spice, all day long.

  • Petri

Is it just me, or are the picture missing a good chunk when you view them?

    • Zakariyya Al-Quran

      its you

  • Zakariyya Al-Quran

They should really release more different color Wii Us just like how they did for Wii. Maybe a Red, Green, or Silver would be Amazing and like a boss

  • https://twitter.com/Onyzora Ony

Can’t wait to have mine in a few years :3

  • Ace

    I wonder why it’s forest green…

    • Ducked

      Because forests aren’t blue

  • Jack5221

Whatever happened to the good old days when consoles came in multiple colors rather than just all black / white? N64 had about 12 different colors. Gamecube even had a few good colors. Theres a blue / red Wii now, but that didn’t come out until the end of the Wiis life cycle. GIVE US MORE CONSOLE COLORS!!! I want a Green Wii U!!!

  • ronaldco91

I ordered one from Nintendo and it’s expected to come in a little while.

    • andrewjcole

I remember talking to you on this site! You told me you’re a developer! If you end up making anything, I’d be glad to try it!

      • ronaldco91

I am working on a few projects atm. One of them includes a space game I was previously developing on the SNES, but had to cancel it.

  • Alex

Can somebody tell me why the WiiU has a cable port on the back?

  • Justagamer

    I want one of these

    • Joey

nah, i do not like it all that much…

    • Ducked

We’re probably get an all golden Wii U gamepad and console when the new Legend of Zelda comes out

    • Rinslowe

Yup…. That does it for me. :)

    • Mithiragi

Is that available for purchase somewhere?

      • Justagamer

Yes you can order this it a sticker to put on the gamepad

        • alex toschi

It’s only available in Japan correct??

          • Justagamer

Nope you can order it online on certain websites

          • alex toschi

Would you happen to know any of the sites? I haven’t been able to find it online, I just searched for it.

          • Justagamer

Hard to say i got mine 6 months ago on amazon

          • alex toschi

Hmm I’ll keep an eye out for it. Thanks for the heads up!

        • Mithiragi

Aight, I’ll check it out. You know where?

    • Majora’s Mask

ah you can buy it somewhere its seal of somekind though i dont remember where

  • andrewjcole

    I so need one of these… of course if I was a developer… and I had money… and I…….

  • Luciano

Nintendo,I have no money, but if you release this,I’ll lend money from the devil to buy this AWESOME LUIGI GAMEPAD to me.
    N64 Kiwi Feelings!!!

  • DragonSilths

Old news for me. I have known this for quite awhile know. But its nice others get a chance to see it,

  • bakedapplepie

I really like the forest green/ white combo, but I like that its made in Japan even better. They should have made all Wii U’s in Japan.

  • gamecrazy94

I hope to get one soon… I am a Wii U developer and I’ve tried to get Wii U Daily to show what I’m working on, but they won’t respond. What I’m showing is the Story behind the game, Adventure Thru 8-Bit Land. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rx3HD_bMatE

    • Magnus Eriksson

You owe me five minutes. I want them back.

      • Rinslowe

        Ouch.

        • NintenScience

          lol

      • gamecrazy94

After all, I did say the only thing I’m showing is the story. I’m not far enough in development to show anything. As far as giving back your 5 minutes, that’s not humanly possible.

        • Magnus Eriksson

Ok, Im not going to be unreasonable. Watch this for five minutes and we are even.

          • http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008SRISGU#reader_B008SRISGU Adam Howell

I want you to give me back the 9 minutes I spent watching this video and the next 30 minutes which I spent clicking on additional videos of this crazy lady.

          • Andrew Chambers

You know that those 39 minutes were worth it. I’m sure as gamers we’ve all wasted a lot more time on worse activities.

    • http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008SRISGU#reader_B008SRISGU Adam Howell

When 8 bit man goes to 64 bit land he’ll get his mind blown flatland style.

  • NintenScience

Looks like a Call of Duty styled Wii U

    • DarkLegacy

      “Call of Duty”

More like a Luigi styled Wii U

  • Elitepwnsface

That never get used for developing appearently.

CAT-R Disc Reader with Wii U Development GamePad

The CAT-R development kit can connect, for purposes of Nintendo Web Framework (NWF), to a host PC via Ethernet using a Wii Wired LAN adapter or via wireless LAN.

The CAT-R includes 2GB of RAM, which is same amount of RAM as the retail Wii U and can only run applications that have been mastered. The CAT-R does not have an internal hard drive; instead, mastered images can be run from an attached USB device, or can be uploaded onto the CAT-Rs built-in 32GB of flash memory via SD Card (not included). The Nintendo Web Framework (NWF) application is run using a mastered application (Running Client).

You may gather debug output by using the included USB to Serial Adapter Cable or, when using NWF, debugging tools are provided by ‘Running Client’ through a web inspector.

The disc drives in the CAT-R units are not able to play retail discs.

  • only god can judge me

Makes me wonder what a red one would look like lol

  • Dell Goodman

Nintendo should’ve added a easy switch shell to these controllers. Make the customization market a bit more enjoyable with the Wii U. Those console stickers are kinda cool, but they just cost a bit more than their worth. Not wanting to spend 8 bucks or so on something that could get an air bubble trapped beneath it.

  • MetroidZero

In other news. Project M 3.0 is out.

  • Cahone

And retail systems look like crap.

  • Nintendofreak

Hey listen! arent debug units green/red and dev kits just a ugly metal case without a cd slot… just saying last time i checked it was like that

    • Stephen

No this is a Dev CAT-R for indie developers, this unit costs just under $2000 and is meant mainly for Nintendo web framework.

  • Dennis

Cool. Same green as the Wii dev console. Why do they make the front (and the back of the gamepad) green if I may ask?

  • https://www.imthegoddamnbatman.com Gamer Mania

Year of Luigi Edition Wii U :D

  • Michael Viec

You guys including have no idea what your doing but anyone who orders a dev kit should turn back you guys have absolutely no idea what you are doing (I used to have one but returned due the fact that it is very complicated and frustrating ) and @Stephen your an idiot for posting that you just broke the NDA. Also btw the user who bought it should returned it because if you call the their number Nintendo will ask you your name and if they cannot find your name tied with your account then they likely demand it back.

    • Stephen

So I’m an idiot yet you’re the one who ordered a Dev kit and can’t program in HTML5/Java, I shared nothing other than what is publicly available on Nintendo’s site, I did not share files or secrets, learn to write then learn to code.

Call me an idiot pft pot kettle black!

      • Michael Viec

That”s funny I done HTML5/Java before as well and looks like to me that you got that info from Nintendo dev site and that’s never on there public website so I don’t think you know what you are talking about Nintendo already knows about you leaking that information plus I’m thinking that your ether a developer because no one would give you that type of information.
