Ex-Famitsu editor says what we all know: Wii U needs killer games

Hamamura Wii UThe president of Enterbrain — the Japanese conglomerate that owns the famous Famitsu games magazine — Hirokazu Hamamura, recently shared his thoughts in Nintendo and its Wii U console. And unsurprisingly, Hamamra believes what we all believe: Nintendo needs some killer games in order to succeed.

In fact, Hamamura puts it slightly different. He says that the Wii U needs killer content to be “resurrected”. Meaning he’s not exactly optimistic about the console now — but “resurrected” from what? The Wii U is far from dead.

He gave the example of the 3DS, saying: “Two years ago the handheld 3DS was called a failure, and then it bounced back”. He added that the Wii U “can be boosted if killer content is released. However developing a lot of games for both the Wii U and the 3DS is difficult”.

Hamamura used to be the Editor in Chief of Famitsu for many years and is one of the more respected games industry figures in Japan.

The Wii U has seen a steady climb in sales over the past few months — in the last week of December, the console sold nearly 110,000 units in Japan alone.

Nintendo needs a priority shift. Enough of the 3DS for now, try to get 3rd party on board and start making more Wii U games.

  • kenny Johnson

“The Wii U is far from dead.” Wait did Hell freeze over? Are their pigs flying as I type? Or did I just not see that from John Kinsley?

  • Lil J Moore

More good games = better sells

    It’s as simple as that.

    • http://Nintendo.com/ Reggie Fils-Aime

That is 100% true, and that is why we will have loads of great content this year, we will kick things of with a direct soon.

      • SleeMouse .

Why do you do that? hy do you pretend to be someone you aint? Not hating or being prick just asking. Not trying to be offensive

      • LopsidedPasta

Is anyone else kinda annoyed that this guy gets a bunch of likes just for his name and profile picture? I could literally set up an ‘Iwata’ account in a minute and get likes in seconds. But it would be fake. Why do people fall for this stuff?

        • Michael Hancock

Why are you jealous of his likes?

          • LopsidedPasta

Because he doesn’t have anything worthwhile to say that actually deserves them. But it isn’t that big of a deal.

        • Jon

why do you care? It takes less effort to ignore him if you don’t like it then it does for you to write a comment.

          • LopsidedPasta

My only qualm is that he gets top comment, so people who reply to him get top(ish) comment also. Then other people with actual things to say can’t get noticed.

          • Rinslowe

            ??

          • Jon

who cares? I never knew people competed for the top comment on a news forum….

          • LopsidedPasta

Who said anything about competing? I said that it shuts out people with legitimate comments. It doesn’t matter if I get “top comment” but I would like for people to read my posts. I’m pretty sure other people feel the same way.

          • Jon

and what defines a legitimate comment? A comment is a comment. It can be a massive discussion/debate or it can just be a simple statement from someone. People upvote comments they like. In a way, that defines a legitimate comment as it is a comment people would find enjoyably and fun. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean that it isn’t a legitimate comment. You don’t decided that.

          • ScrewAttack

Make your post worth reading and people will read them. Great example- this string of complaints from you aren’t worth reading, but hey we’re reading them aren’t we!

As for the second bit, I really couldn’t care less if people want to read my comments or not. I simply throw my opinion in the mix and see what happens.

          • ScrewAttack

“Top comment” really means diddly squat. Most of us scroll down and read near enough all the comments (within reason, of course).

If you want top comment for whatever reason, you’re just gonna have to do better than faux Reggie! (who I love btw)

          • Michael Hancock

Do you like females romantically, too? Or just Reggie?

          • ScrewAttack

What a shit attempt to get a rise. Beat it loser.

          • Michael Hancock

Are you hitting on me, bro? I don’t want to give you a rise and I most certainly do NOT want to beat it. I’m pretty selective when it comes to that sort of thing.

        • Leo

We have our very own Iwata resident here and he doesn’t get as many likes. Please understand.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Actually, the Iwata impersonator gets just as many likes. It’s just that he isn’t around as often as the fake Reggie guy, Lol. Which makes me wonder where the Miyamoto fake went. Haven’t seen him around in a long time. I’ve seen another one here, but he isn’t the original one I remember.

          • LopsidedPasta

            I haven’t seen him

          • WolfgangAmadeusMozart

Just scroll down a bit, you’ll find him.

        • WolfgangAmadeusMozart

          Because it’s funny.

      • Sdudyoy

Even though I know you’re not Reggie I still read that in His voice.

        • [000]

          And you read my mind…

      • Shigeru Miyamoto

        Nice thinking

      • NatT96™

Not to sound random, but is the Wii U ever going to have a channel for photo viewing ever again…I miss the channel from my original Wii.

        • ScrewAttack

I still wish we could get a music player channel. The original Xbox had one and it was awesome.
Considering the gamepad has a camera and the 3DS is now linked too, it is a bit odd that there’s no special channel for messing around with all these photos.

          • NatT96™

Its very strange that the Wii U has no media player. I believe Nintendo will release one in a future update.

  • Josh111111

Simply release old titles Nintendo! Through virtual console or HD re-release.

It’s like printing your own money! How hard is this to understand?!

  • Rukiafan Rukiachan

Wii U has the strongest lineup as far as exclusives go next year. The Wii U will turn it around, just be patient people.

    • Leo

The problem is not people’s patience, the problem is the media brainwashing people against Nintendo. People really have no opinion, they go with the flow of the heads in the industry. This is how the mainstream media works in every area, cinema, music, games, books, etc. This has been going on since the N64 days, during the NES and SNES days Nintendo notably restricted some western developers until Sony emerged with a very westernized policy of “hey developer you can put every crap in our system and see what sticks”. This policy hasn’t changed at all and it gradually turned the whole industry against Nintendo’s rigorous restrictions.

    • oontz

      Not compared to PS4

      • Elem187

Uhh the Wii U’s lineup is far more interesting.. Ps4, just like the ps3 is shaping up to be another dudebro box with mediocre platformers and other alternative genres tossed in as a “me too” so Sony can claim they have other games. The reality is Sony’s development budgets overwhelmingly favor the shooters and the cinematic garbage, while tossing a few bones at their mediocre other genres. Their priorities in game development shows. Ratchet and Clank will forever be a mediocre platformer because Sony refuses to put any money behind the series, but they will toss 70 million at these interactive cinema games that shouldn’t even be called a game.

        • Yousif Alromaithi

As much as I agree I miss sony golden days on platforming because the PS2 was truly great. But I cannot deny that Sony did some great games on their newer system such as Heavy Rain, Last of Us and Uncharted. But I think you are right saying the older games of sony was better than the newer ones.

        • oontz

“Uhh the Wii U’s lineup is far more interesting.”

Yeah… Donkey Kong Country, Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros, X, Bayonetta, Hyrule Warriors, Scram Kitty and his Buddy on Rails, and FAST Racing NEO.

And that’s it… that’s the BEST upcoming games for Wiiu in 2014, 8 games. Other than a couple it’s just the same franchises done again and again by Nintendo. That doesn’t mean I won’t buy some of them and enjoy them. But from an outsider looking in… the PS4 has a lot more interesting games that bring a true next gen experience for the user.

          • Rinslowe

Great experiences are not quantified directly by the no’ of titles available… And arguably the competitions line up has only about the same no’ of decent experiences set to release in 2014 – each.
Saying company A or B as X amount of titles in development means squat considering the amount of genuine titles, not being more than company C’s for eg in 2014. And that’s pretty much a fact. Perhaps just not for you, lol.
In another way would SM3DW have been any greater if it released 8 times in 2013 instead of one? Or Shadowfall any better than just pretty but average if it released the same – 8 – amount of times? Lol Obviously that makes no sense right? In the same way you seem to forget that at least 3 of those eight titles coming for Wii U will be great. MK8, Smash and X only need to be released once to be great titles if they “are” in fact great titles. And everything points towards each one of those three being great experiences. Point being again, the no’ of stand out winners on the other platforms are set to be about the same from where I’m looking.
And personally I think; Bayo 2, SMTX FE and Fast Racing Neo will be very compelling titles equally…
Lol to that true next gen experience. If what you say is right, then I’ve been on the “true next gen experiences” since Q3 2007…

          • oontz

“Point being again, the no’ of stand out winners on the other platforms are set to be about the same from where I’m looking.”

And that’s fine as it’s your opinion… for me though there are a lot more titles I am eager to play on my PS4 in the future than what I’ve seen in the pipeline for wiiu. Will I still enjoy some games on wiiu this year? Of course or I wouldn’t own one. But there is a lot more I am looking forward to on PS4 than wiiu, again thats my position. I play and beat on average 2 to 3 games a month. The AAA releases for wiiu (although maybe great) are spread a little to thin for my gaming needs compared to the upcoming AAA releases for PS4.

          • Rinslowe

I’ve always seen where your coming from tbh. But as a multiplatform owner. I hardly ever get too opinionated over these types of issues. I’ll probably go through a decent game a month or two. Sometimes more but it really depends. My schedule in life is not the ordinary so, sometimes more – sometimes less etc…
Surely you have a PC as well as PS4 to offset such strong opinions on the matter, or is that just your thing?

          • oontz

” I hardly ever get too opinionated over these types of issues.”

And this is exactly what I try to do, bite my tongue so to speak. But there are times when I see Nintendo fans on this (and other) site(s), just blindly ignorant to the fact that there are other amazing gaming eco-systems that DO provide gaming entertainment on par with Nintendo. Wether with first party or 3rd party exclusives.

          • Rinslowe

Yeah, true. I agree actually. When I look at my gaming hobby and the amount of gear I’ve amassed over the years, I’m grateful that there are multiple players in the market to fill that overall need.
For Eg. Mass Effect is hands down one of my favourite franchises to play. I’ve been through the first one, I don’t know how many times, lol. Halo is up there as well as one of those games I’ll buy a system for. And games like Heavy Rain, The last of us etc.. etc… that leaves a lasting impression.
In fact there’s so many games from each major player that’s got me hooked and re-hooked over the years it’s just silly really…
Nintendo games are there as well, first party of course and hopefully it’s still gravy for us gamer’s for a long time to come…

I found it. That’s the BOTTOM of the site though, not the top.

          • jjbredesen

Yeah, but there is one at the top to, but you can’t see it if you don’t use adblock, have never turned it off so don’t know how the site looks like with ads XD

like any suggestions works during the weekends lol john writes whatever he wants.

        • Jason

Well then it’s good this comment is here to inform the little people.

    • LopsidedPasta

I would buy that, but I’ve literally made a budget for myself concerning my future PS4 and Wii U purchases (I’m nearly broke). I can’t even spare 30 dollars :(

    • Jon

and that isn’t in Canada sadly :(

    • http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008SRISGU#reader_B008SRISGU Adam Howell

It’s a really good game. Shame it didn’t sell better because I would have liked a sequel.

    • Fred

Nice. Best buy has the same deal going on. I bought it there earlier this week

    • Daniel Gonzalez

That game is still at 60 bucks normal price? Lol. It needs a price drop. The half off price seems more fitting at this point. I’m sure it’s a decent game and to those that may enjoy it more than others, but it would benefit from a price drop considering it’s had poor sales. It’s a good enough deal and may entice people to buy it at that price point.

      • Elem187

You must be new to Nintendo published games

        • Daniel Gonzalez

You must be new to opinions and suggestions. Kinda hard to be new to Nintendo published games when I’ve been playing Nintendo games since ’87. Lol. Nice assumption, but you were off. It’s actually up to GameStop in this case since they decide if the prices drop or remain at the current price point, not Nintendo. :P

    • Elitepwnsface

So stupid how that download price is still $60.

      • Daniel Gonzalez

I think $30 should be max for that game, especially since not many are actually buying it.

  • jjbredesen

Don’t need to worry about killer content lol, Once MK8 is out even Patcher will have to give up.

    • Zakariyya Al-Quran

      or SSBU

      • jjbredesen

When Smash Bros releases combind with what MK8 will have done, there is no chance in hell that Wii U will fail!

Not being a fanboy, but i am exstremly sure that Nintendo has got enough games to keep sales rising.

        • Magnus Eriksson

Im not to sure about that. But they will have enough games to make it interesting. What they need is third parties ready for releasing games like Skyrim, GTAV, Bio Shock, Last of Us etc. And not 6 month to one year later, but either as an exclusive or atleast at the same time as other consoles. Then the Wii U could very well rise up from the grave.

No secret that Im disappointed with Nintendo this gen. But not everything was their fault either. The launch should have been smoother if it wasnt for a lot of third party fuck ups too.

          - Alien Colonial Marines SHOULD have been this great game, but ended up as a crap late-90′s looking piece of shit on other platforms and not at all on the Wii U.

-Rayman Legend could have been released in march, but was delayed because a last in minute business decision from Ubi.

          - ZombiU could have been a killer with three more months in development.

          - Some of the ports should never have happened, like Batman Armoured ed. Mass Effect 3 and Assassins Creed 3 did not feel well placed either as none of the prequels have landed on Wii U before.

          - Nintendo should have been more meeting with people like Betsheda to get Skyrim to the console.

          —–

Not everything is N. fault, but much is. In the end its their responsibility.

      • The Clockwork Being

Zelda U! Once thats out Patcher will go into hiding.

        • Squid

Metroid will make him cry when it comes out.

          • ConCity Soldier

            Lol

          • Mithiragi

Starfox and F-Zero will fuck up his asinine ass. (NO HOMO)

          • readypembroke

You mean barrel roll his ass?

          • Yousif Alromaithi

Earthbound Wii U will make him poop his ass out of Wedbush.

          • Stephen Davis

YES we need metroid! And we need John Williams to do the soundtrack for it!! How epic would that be?? :D

        • Magnus Eriksson

2016 then… A bit late, dont you think?

    • LopsidedPasta

That’s a bold prediction! We all know that Patchenator never gives up. NEVER. Once MK and SSB come out, it’ll be about the weak Virtual Console service (Which does need fixing, don’t get me wrong)

      • jjbredesen

haha true, there will always be something i guess in the end they will be bashing it for LED lights being to weak on the power button XD

      • The Clockwork Being

And when thats fixed it will be about the relationship between Nintendo and EA, saying that without EA, the biggest video game company in America, Nintendo will die.

        • jjbredesen

lol, yup they never give up.

        • TheAquacharger

You know for a big company I haven’t bought a game of EA’s after Most Wanted U. Before that was BF3 and before that was RB3. Before that was TB:RB. They just stopped making games I can care about.

          • readypembroke

I only buy Battlefield from them. Battlefield 4 should have been delayed 2 to 4 months. Texture streaming on BF 4 on PS3 is horrid. Iron sights are blocks until about 10 seconds after spawning. Cant use weapon after spawning until 2 seconds later which because of this, I have died many times.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

Battlefield 4 is very bad on all systems. I saw the game how it played on PS4.

          • abe

i have the Xbox one version its running fine (not great, not perfect) now about as well as GTA online but for ages everything was bad much like GTAO lol

          • Yousif Alromaithi

Mine runs bad which my brother plays it for I play FIFA and Dead Rising.

          • abe

Was the same story as GTA online. Mine ran fine for ages when everyone else had problems then suddenly my characters head changed gender. I imagine same will happen on BF4

          • readypembroke

When they said they fixed the campaign save file issue, they didn’t. After the patch, I played the campaign for a bit then about a week later clicked on Campaign again just to be greeted with the New Campaign menu.

          • Jon

What did you expect from an EA game? They are doing what they do with Madden and Fifa now with everything now.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

FIFA runs the best on XBox One with no lag and interruptions except Battlefield which was really bad.

          • Jon

I wasn’t really getting at how it runs, I was getting at how it is the same game year after year with a roster update with some very minor changes.

          • readypembroke

FIFA on the PS4 and Xbox One are the same exact thing with the same exact graphics. Digital Foundry said there isn’t a difference besides the One version having some mode.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

Xbox One has team legends which is why I bought Xbox first. So clearly the best version out there and it runs perfectly than the PS4.

          • readypembroke

EA is doing damage control for the Xbox One. EA is helping MS by making the PS4 version just a Xbox One port. MS is opening their pockets and trying to make the One attractive by making exclusive things most people could care less about.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

The FIFA was built on Xbox One not PS4 because when team BARCA played against each other they used the One version in order to crown the winner so tello and Montaya win for team BARCA best FIFA team. http://www.fcbarcelona.com/club/detail/article/fc-barcelona-players-try-the-new-xbox-one.b

          • readypembroke

I don’t play FIFA or Madden. Only EA games I bought last year new was the Mass Effect Trilogy for Xbox ($40) and Battlefield 4 for PS3 ($25 at black friday)

      • Squid

At least it’s the only console that has notable classics

        • LopsidedPasta

Depends on your definition of “classics” ;)

          • Squid

By classics I mean. Old appreciated games, like Mario World and Super. Metroid.

          • LopsidedPasta

That’s true. If classics need to be old, the Microsoft has none, and Sony only has a couple (maybe). But SEGA has some also I think.

          • Squid

Oh whoops, that relies on your definition of old too. By old games I usually refer to ten year old or older. Mario Galaxy wouldn’t be considered classic yet to me despite it being a masterpiece. Smash bros Melee is classic to me,

    • Shigeru Miyamoto

We are fully aware of Patcher. We just keep making games.

      • Squid

Let’s attack his eyes with Pikmin.
Edit: I don’t see what’s to thumb down to this..

        • readypembroke

Screw that, let Mario and friends jump on his head 3 times to teach him a damn lesson.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

Let the entire Mushroom Kingdom attack him.

    • Stretch90

Honestly, I don’t think games are the Wii U’s biggest problem. The PS4 doesn’t have anything special and it’s selling like crazy. Nintendo’s problem is their image and the stupidity of most gamers.

There’s a major trend in the industry to bash Nintendo for any reason they can come up with and none of it is logical. I mean, so many people in the industry even think that Nintendo should stop selling hardware because they’re failing but Sony and MS lost tons of money in the last gen while Nintendo raked it in.

It’s really hard to believe that so many adults can be so petty in this industry.

      • Jonathan George Anaya

Sony has a 80% of Epically Failing. If anything, I’d be worried of buying ANYTHING Sony at this moment… Wi-OneU for True Gamers :)

        • Daniel Gonzalez

“Sony has a 80% of Epically Failing.”

Only thing that’s failing, is your comment. :P

    • Elitepwnsface

Mario Kart is the same game its always been. Not sure it is a killer app. Still going to be a good game and i have it preordered, but i am not crazy excited for it. Smash is the game i know many of my friends and I are anticipating.

      • David Byrad

Yeah, but children love playing the same stuff with new twists. COD is living proof of that…

      • AceRuby

Considering Mario Kart entries average 5 million sales every entry I’d say its a definite killer app for Nintendo.

    • Ernesto Perez

      Don’t forget Monolith Soft’s X.

    • Cesar Barroso

Super Mario 3D World is doing it, just at a slow pace because of the situation the Wii U was at that time. SM3DW sales have been going up instead of the opposite, the same can be said about Wii U. For DKC Tropical Freeze and Mario Kart 8 will be just easier to carry that momentum on because Mario has carrying that weight before, it’s like Mario is the bait for good sales.

    • Monty Mont

There are already great Exclusives, if you guys havent picked up Wonderful101, YOU SHOULD!, its a hard game with a lot strategy and fast paced action. There are great games out, show support and pick them up. A few friends that own Wii U’s never tried, they came over and played and are now getting their own copies. Doesnt have to be 1st party developed games, show support for the 3rd party ports and exclusives, especially if you want more EXCLUSIVES!. :D

  • Zorlac79

It’s funny, I feel the same about my Xbox One. It seriously needs some “killer” games to be good too.
Sure, there is a handful of games out there, but all ones that I have or played on my 360 already.
Ryse was great, finished it and done. Dead Rising 3, usually don’t like the D.R. series, but am gonna play it simply because I have nothing to play on the system.
So my point is: DUH! Of course a system needs killer games to succeed!!!

  • Squid

Mario 3D world is a killer game, along with Pikmin 3..

    • oontz

Mario is a great game… but not everyone loves mario.

      • AceRuby

The 200 million people that have played Mario in its lifespan would like a word with you…

        • oontz

Look I love mario… he’ll always have a place in my gaming heart. But not everyone does. Some people used to like Mario but are now mario’ed out.

  • gamesplayswill

Guys you are missing the point, he doesn’t necessarily mean 1st party games.

    • Elem187

Most third party games are “meh” so I don’t see any moving any systems.

  • Jon

Smash, bayonetta2, kart, DK, X…. yeah, it has those coming.

  • SomeFluffer64

  • gamer

we all know the Nintendo Wii U needs more great games. bring on GTA 5 for the Wii U if you want to get really serious. more games like this will only make the Wii U more desirable to own over the Xbox One and PS4.

    http://www.shopmost.co.uk

    • Elem187

Multiplatform games won’t move anymore systems. Exclusives is what drives sales.

  • The Clockwork Being

Here is my response to this man.

    http://lmgtfy.com/?q=You+don%27t+say!

  • Syaka

You people are so optimistic that I need to barf. Despite whatever data, forecast, trend presented you people at WiiUDaily still spin the same story that everything will be alright. It seems that despite whatever fact presented you’ll disregard it to BS another article.

    • JB

You apparently haven’t read the majority of John Kinsley’s stuff then. He’s usually the resident Debbie Downer (not that I have a problem with his opinion, though just to be clear)

      • Syaka

I visit NintendoLife daily nowadays rather than WiiUDaily. They’re realists instead of the fantasizers here. Ever since they made up the Pikmin 3 numbers I gave up on this site. There’s a general lack of professionalism and as usual when I do come back and visit I see the writers feed even more ignorance to readers.

No, I haven’t read most of Kinsley’s articles but I have taken a look at the data, financial forecasts and trends which all show some very clear messages. For whatever reasons though, those clear messages seem to escape the writers here.

    • ScrewAttack

You wouldn’t know a fact if it was punched into your head, just like the rest of your anti-Nintendo fanboy friends.

      • Syaka

Really now? Try me. What was Nintendo’s earnings for the Wii U last quarter? Sales trend for the last year? Stock fluctuations?

I know all of that, as I should as I’m majoring in finance. It’s out of hobby that I keep up with the data.

So then why not prove to me that I don’t know any facts at all when this is my area of specialty and future profession.

Go on, I’ll be waiting scrub :].

Oh and as I’ve already mentioned before, I love Nintendo and have been buying into and only into Nintendo every generation. Just because I know what the data says doesn’t make me a hater, but any immature idiot such as yourself will obviously think so.

        • ScrewAttack

Oh look he thinks he’s clever! The internet- where you can say whatever you like to try and justify your point. Don’t bother, anyone can find statistics via Google. You just continue running round being the “immature idiot” that has to call other people such to make yourself feel better about whatever particular shortcoming affects you. People like you are ten a penny..

          • Syaka

Oh ho, leave it to the kid who’s never looked at any of the data to criticize me :].

If you think Google is the place to get all of this data and trends from you are quite clearly ignorant about the industry. You honestly think analysts are Googling for data when there’s better more reliable sources? Lmao. You’re a joke.

If you’d like I’d be happy to educate the ignorant on what specific data and trends mean but I bet you’d be Googling what the terms I’m using every few seconds :[.

Now, it’s quite blatantly clear that you have no idea about the “facts” that you’re talking about. Had you actually ever paid attention to financial data in your entire life you’d know there’s no specific data on Nintendo’s earning on the Wii U. If you actually knew something you would have called me out instantly on that.

Now you’re crying about how I supposedly ” call other people such (idiot) to make yourself feel better” when I’m correct?

Grow up kid, either show me something that I don’t know or admit you’re ignorant. It’s that easy :).

          • ScrewAttack

            LOL

            1) You presume too much.
            2) Your resorting to insults tells me everything I need to know.
            3) Googling was an insult aimed at you.
            4) They might as well be, since you count Pachter amongst your ranks ;)
            5) Again you presume too much. But not only that, you show just how arrogant you are. Your qualifications wouldn’t mean squat in my field.
            6) I never specified quantitative data because I never felt the need to. This is a fan site on the internet, and you’re an argumentative troll ;)
            7) You presume too much again. Far from crying, more like pitying. You are really a bit pathetic.

I have no need to do anything other than ignore you, you silly little troll. All you do is insult and boast great knowledge without providing any yourself, and when you’re challenged you resort to name calling and topic switching. 1/10, go home!

EDIT: My opinion- “analyst” is a job you take when your grades are too shit to do what you really wanted to. You might as well be a teacher, at least you’d be likeable.

          • Syaka

Look at all those points coming to the same opinion you hold that I’m presuming; talk about extending BS LOL. Your entire response is presumptuous and has only shown yourself as a hypocrite :].

When did I mention any analysts let alone Pachter? LMAO. Pull your pants up scrub, you clearly have no idea about what you’re talking.

You continue to yap without giving a single fact or proved anything relevant to what I’ve said. You’re still dodging my one and only question. Point out a single fact that suggests otherwise from what I said. You won’t and can’t.

Keep dodging the question, it’s been how many responses now? I haven’t switched the topic once and am still asking you to PROVE me wrong.

Here I’ll even help you out because you’d otherwise never find the data.

            http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2013/annual1303e.pdf
            http://www.marketwatch.com/investing/stock/NTDOY?link=MW_story_quote
I’d include Wii U sales chart by hey you’re a Google master so there should be no need right?

Tell me what fact I am possibly missing if you can even understand what any of this means :). I’ll be happy to explain and break it all down to someone as lost as you. I told you, try me because unlike you I can prove myself, easy.

Oh and look at you presuming about my grades and that I’m not studying what I want LOL. You’re so full of sh!t, hypocrite. Sorry I’ll be making far more than you if I’m not already :]. <- And go ahead and focus on that statement and once again dodge my question.

          • ScrewAttack

Uhuh,uhuh,uhuh…..you really are a miserable little termite aren’t you? Not enough love from the fam? It’s not an opinion, it’s a fact; you assume situations and information that you have no knowledge of. If you do this a lot, they better take whatever meager qualifications you have away from you! It’s a big no no! Uhuh, sure thing buddy whatever you say.

You can’t even make your mind up with what you do! So you’re a finance pleb that doesn’t analyse data, despite it being your “hobby”. Bloody hell man, your grades must be bleak. Of course, assuming you’re studying for such a thing at all.

Maybe you missed the part where I said I don’t answer to some shit-eating plebian who thinks himself master of the interwebz? I’m safe in my knowledge and have nothing to prove…unlike you,..screaming for attention with every post. And you have tried to switch the topic, several times. It’s your “knowledge” that was originally in question ;)
Uhuh, so you keep saying without making any attempt to prove it. *Yawn* another armchair analyst. Are all you “finance” kids so far up your own arses?

Yeah I presumed here, and lol you know what I feel fairly safe in the presumption, since it’s gotten such a rise out of you. Why would you get so mad if it weren’t in some part true? :) Uhuh uhuh yes I bet you will! And what’ll that be in? Peewee dollars? That’s not a real currency buddy.

I dodge no questions; I told you. I have no interest in wasting my valuable time on a plebian like you. I barely have any interest in talking to you at all, you’re such a poisonous little termite. But, it’s funny to watch you get soooo angry because the other kids won’t play your games in the sandbox. So long peewee pachter!

          • Syaka

Nope, like I can bother read your crying :]. You needed what is it now six responses to admit you know shit? Hahaha, good job scrub.

          • ScrewAttack

Tut tut, so aggressive. I see a lot of me in you. I feel like I’m doing to you what Magnus did to me a few months back. I don’t want to do that; read my other post first and let’s get back on the right track.

And; I know plenty! Not all relevant to the topic at hand, but the skills are more than transferable. I take it you’re in your first or second year or study though, or you’d know just how useful Google is :p

And what’s this scrub business? Texan? I’ve never heard such a thing before.

          • Syaka

If you haven’t yet noticed it’s pretty clear I’m not reading through your BS so don’t worry.

I’m Canadian. You should know what a scrub is if you’d call me a pleb.

          • ScrewAttack

Really now, and why would I know that? Scrub’s not slang I’ve ever heard- I’m English.

Jesus, you sound just like this guy I live with. None of us can stand him either. Suit yourself, you just continue to be a very peculiar individual on your own over here and I’ll sidle this way so as to avoid figurative eye contact.

          • Syaka

Google what a scrub is. It is slang and I used it correctly :).

If you’re insecure when serious people that treat you seriously and honestly then what can I say? Shallow, dense? Whichever you want, whichever you can handle.

That’s my issue with Western culture, being honest, straightforward, even aggressive is seen in a negative tone. In other societies and in business culture the above is not only acceptable but is the norm.

Too bad if you can’t stand him and have this stigma but it’s not the same around the world.

          • ScrewAttack

lol That is hilarious! Conversation gets stranger and stranger.

Jesus christ pull your head from your arse! Insecure? Far from it, I just happen to appreciate there’s more to life than being a miserable hardass like you see to enjoy.
Yes, well, better go live in the East then where you can be with your waifu or whatever other bizarre stuff you enjoy.

And FYI, the guy registers has mental health issues. He BIT one of my friends because we weren’t playing cards the way he wanted. So you just think about who you’re happy to be associated with.

          • Syaka

            That’s dull.

You’re delirious. Read over what you’ve sent me and try and tell me that’s conversing.

Your categorical imperative is idiotic. It is of your opinion and viewpoint that being serious about life would lead to a less fulfilling life. Is a fulfilling life one of great achievement, overall happiness, wealth, legacy, etc? Do I actually have to explain why anyone takes life seriously?

Once again you choose to jump to conclusions and generalize. I didn’t say “bizarre things” was why I liked Eastern social norms but regardless you say what you like.

I’m fine with who I associate to. Quite frankly associating myself with someone like you would have no value. You can’t stay on topic, you’re self righteous, presumptuous, hypocritical, and ignorant.

As I already pointed out in the last comment I already had an idea those were your qualities based on your other “conversations” with other netizens. It was interesting to confirm your natural but rather stale in recognizing it.

” you sound just like this guy I live with. None of us can stand him either.”

Yes, link me to an mentally ill individual though I have no such traits. You intentionally gave another loaded statement and based on how I responded on those inclinations, you drew yet another flawed conclusion about association. Really? Isn’t it very likely the reason you can’t stand him is because of mental illness and not because he, if like me is serious?

Have you ever taken philosophy or psychology? It might help you understand your nature, my nature, a fulfilling life, etc. At the very least you might be able to see how neatly you fit into some of the more applicable theories.

I hope you don’t respond so predictably now or there’s really no more joy to take in confirming my learnings :].

          • ScrewAttack

Just a courtesy- you’re a loon, and I’m not wasting my precious time scratching my head over how your brain works.

You’re absolutely insane. Dealing in nothing but absolutes, taking every word literally. I assure you the reason nobody likes the guy is because he’s an arsehole to everyone and thinks it’s acceptable to physically attack people.

I can’t even begin to wrap my head around how nuts you are. You’re like a freaking robot! Please don’t waste your time replying, as I won’t be again. You’re disturbed, plain and simple. Reminds me how sad it is, that the internet allows a platform where people like you can be yourselves, to the detriment of everyone else.

          • Syaka

            Oh you’re so simpleminded :].

It’s so predictable that you’d react exactly the same because I chose to write a serious analysis on your poor attempt at back-peddling and justifying yourself. Your handling of the situation has soured and you react by down-voting again LOL.

Precious time? I’ve seen you argue with at least three people just for the sake of your ego. You’re a detriment to netizens and should stay off the internet as the best you can do is waste other’s time.

Haha, you’re just beyond help and is oh so low :].

  • Dylan Clark

lol i hate to say it but im having a hard time hating the Wii U right now its slowly becoming my main console even though i have an XB1. i find myself playing TLOZ WW HD and SM3DW when i get home from work everyday since i got it in november. i agree 100% if wii u gets more games like these i might sell my xb1

    • Nothing5555

Keep the xb1 as it will eventually get good games, but if you can sell you xb1 for a higher prices than you bought it for I say sell it.

      • Dylan Clark

well im thinking about it because i only have one game for xb1 and thats dr3 so if i sell it at 670 dollars (what my friends offering me) i could get some more U games and have alot leftover like i didnt know Deus Ex came to wii u i really want that. ill pick up ONE when more games i like come

  • Kyle

This dood is right. But if 2014 can’t deliver with titles like SSB, MK8, Donkey Kong, and I’ll even put in Watch Dogs, then I’ll be amazed.

    • jlenoconel

Its possible that the Wii U won’t succeed because of all the negative press it keeps on getting. Even when Nintendo get things right, someone writes a bad article, or an article with a negative spin, about them.

    • oontz

amazed… with 4 games, in one year?

  • darkcreap

What a nonsense. Why would I anybody want to be killed by a WiiU game?

  • erich80

How can one resurrect something that has never been dead?

    • jjbredesen

lol that deserves a couple upvotes. XD

  • Daniel Carvalho

Don’t worry, PS4 and Xbox One need Killer games too. The difference is that Wii U is considered dead while it’s walking in day light like any other console.

  • Kenshin0011

Ps4 and xbone also lack killer games…Wii u 2014 line up totally dominates theirs

    • oontz

ummm, no. Not even close. PS4 is bringing a ton of AAA content. The wiiu release schedule does have a couple of must have titles but the PS4′s must have titles heavily outweighs the wiiu. Regardless just enjoy all the systems.

      • Kenshin0011

Maybe dominates is too strong, but they’re equal. What’s the list of 2014 ps4 exclusives?

        • oontz

They’re not even close to being equal. Yes Nintendo with have a couple of heavy hitters… but that’s it. Sony has 180 EXCLUSIVE PS4 games in development, many coming this year, most of which will be huge.

          • Kenshin0011

Again list them. No indies, just major retail exclusives for 2014.

          • oontz

It’s not JUST PS4 exclusives either… there are a ton of amazing 3rd party AAA games that aren’t coming to wiiu. Sorry, not going to sift through releases to prove a point. From what I’ve seen there are a lot more AAA games not coming to the wiiu than ones that are coming to the wiiu. That says something.

          • Kenshin0011

            Ah.

          • oontz

Here is an article listing the top wiiu games coming this year.

            http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2014/01/feature_the_biggest_wii_u_games_of_2014

As you can see, the list (which includes a few multi-plat titles) is ONLY 10 strong, and only a couple are MUST have. Hardly dominating by any means.

          • Elem187

Looks like all dudebro games. Booooorrrriinh…zzzzzzz

          • oontz

love immature lads who use terms such as dudebro. Your level of banter is really becoming of you. Please enlighten us lesser folk to the actual meaning of dudebro or how one would define a game in the dudebro category/genre. Cheers

          • Yousif Alromaithi

No way PS4 has 180 games on development this year. Because that is not true. As far I know Infamous, The Order, Deep Down, Drive Club is coming this year. So no way Sony will show 176 games on e3 2014.

          • oontz

            wow care to read… I clearly said…

“Sony has 180 EXCLUSIVE PS4 games in development, many coming this year”

I didn’t define an exact number coming this year only said many. Reading works wonders, you should try it.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

You said many will come this year. So most of them will come this year that’s what you said. You are so wrong with your description.

          • oontz

“You said many will come this year. So most of them will come this year that’s what you said.”

LOL, no “many” and “most of” are two completely different words/terms. But thanks for trying. Maybe learn the definitions first, just a suggestion.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

            Alright.

          • oontz

            cool.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

            Chill.

          • oontz

            Brisk.

        • Elem187

90% dudebro games on the ps4… If you are into that…. The Wii U games dominate the ps4 exclusives because there won’t be fifty billion shooters on the Wii U

          • oontz

there won’t be 50 billion anything on the wiiu. Again a few AAA games for the wiiu this year. Will those games be great, of course. But they won’t outweigh the AAA options provided on PS4. Just not going to happen.

          • ScrewAttack

Careful! Your fanboy is showing. Very unbecoming.

          • oontz

Ha ha, I am a fanboy of video games. Regardless of manufacturer or genre. I am also realistic when it comes to games being released on wiiu.

          • ScrewAttack

Aren’t we all :) Doesn’t stop though, that you’re over-stressing the PS4′s position. I’m sure it’ll do well, I hope it does since I want one. But so will the Wii U. There’s only one console losing out this generation, the one that looks like a VCR.

          • oontz

The wiiu is doing great in my opinion as it gets regular play time in my home theatre. Doesn’t mean I need to be un-realistic about the situation at hand. Sony has positioned itself very well with the ps4 and has been buying up studios to make sure that the AAA exclusive content flows freely. Something Nintendo should had done with its surplus of profit from the original wii. If Nintendo owned more first party studios then they wouldn’t be at the mercy of 3rd party developers. It’s be a completely different situation right now.

          • AceRuby

Realistically you can’t say Sony or Microsoft’s 2014 lineup will rival Nintendo’s at this point at all because their hasn’t been much announced for either this year (as far as first party goes). Halo will probably show on the Xbone and that will probably be its main big release but what about before that what titles will fill out the year. Sony does have a couple of titles we know are coming like The Order and Infamous but what is their big release this year going to be (Uncharted is likely a 2015 title).

  • RyuNoHadouken

    ..

  • Kenshin0011

Wii U 2014: Smash Bros, Bayonetta 2, Yarn Yoshi, DK Freeze, Monolith’s X, Mario Kart 8, Hyrule Warriors, and whatever is not announced yet plus 3rd party like Watch Dogs

This 2014 line up is definitely just as good as ps4/xbone, if not better!

  • TomcaT MeoW

Well, the release line up for 2014 is pretty packed. Plus there’s titles that are already out which should continue to have legs as the install base grows (WWHD, SM3DW, Pikmin 3, etc.).

Going slightly OT here, but IMO the U’s release schedule is most likely due to the slow start of the 3DS. I suspect what happened is that many of Nintendo’s internal teams were diverted to 3DS development to get the titles out and shore up the company’s handheld position (which worked out well given the slow start), but this left the U w/o a solid release schedule from Nintendo. Third party partnerships fizzled out or produced lackluster results: Rayman delayed for multiplat, EA’s origin nonsense, late ports, etc. Dev kits / libraries were also lacking until shortly after release (remember dev comments saying how well the performance increased with the updated tools). Combine everything (including Nintendo’s internal struggles with HD development) and you get the software drought. The software we’re seeing now is the result of Nintendo refocusing on the U after getting the 3DS in order (and coming to terms w/ the expanded dev time HD needs)…

So to bring things back on topic, the hit software is in the pipeline but its taken a while in getting here for various reasons. X being my personally most wanted title thanks to the marvel that was Xenoblade.

    • Kenshin0011

I am more hyped for X than I’ve ever been for any video game!

      • TomcaT MeoW

Probably my vote for best art direction of last generation. Considering the hardware they were working with, the environments in that game were stunning. Combined my wife and I put over 400 hours into the game, so yeah, excite :)

        • Kenshin0011

I know! Gameplay, characters, story, all phenomenal.

And this new one looks to have similar gameplay and add mechs! Those trailers make them look exhilarating to fly around in

    • Virus6

But Nintendo is going bankrupt right?

      • Leo

That’s what prepubescent teens says on the internet.

  • Satoru Iwata

Please understand. Nintendo doesn’t just make killer games. We are the killers. No one can handle the power of the mighty Triforce. Thank you for understanding. Always support Nintendo and it’s wonderful library of games.

  • David Trail

    Wii U has killer games!

  • leo

    Well no duh.

  • crocodileman94

Is this article really written by John? It’s way too optimistic.

    • Virus6

It actually has a hint of positivity!

  • Chong

Wii u is the best ….Xbox sucks and ps4 is no better…

    • Rinslowe

      Answer the question:

      中国
      or
      한국어

  • Rinslowe

Wii U needs those killer apps. Just not that meaningful considering a few of the titles slated for release in 2014 meet that criteria already… Is he setting himself up for a win here or…?

” but “resurrected” from what? The Wii U is far from dead.”

    Exactly!

  • Flawless Victory

The Wii U has been struggling because of marketing not being on point from the start and game drought in the first half of 2013, but it’s not dead..nor needs to be “resurrected.” And it has been gaining ground….it need killer games to continue it’s momentum and make it even stronger like the 3DS. This also would help reduce the blow of not getting the same amount of multiplatform games you can find on the other systems. The 2014 launch line up for the Wii U is very solid.

  • Killer_of_Trolls

Maybe, just maybe, if the first party Nintendo games had better network integration(The Mario Series, Smash Bro’s, Mario Kart, etc) using Nintendo’s own network aka multi-player over the internet there would be a shift towards Casual/Hardcore gamer’s buying the device. Unfortunately, this wont be the case with Nintendo, based on there belief that family based gaming is still important, there console will continue to collect dust just like the original Wii. I own a Wii U, and for the price, and the Off TV Play functionality using the game pad it is well worth it, but really why would I call/message my friends to come over and play Smash Bros, or Mario, when instead Nintendo could have added net-code functionality for these series out of the box? I also contend that combined with net-code functionality, using there own first party title’s(Who wouldn’t die to play a full fledged 3D version Pokemon with multiplayer(over the internet)/social networking features?), and letting go of the family gaming bs, it would attract more adopters to the platform. Nope, never going to happen with Nintendo…. As our society becomes more reliant on communication over the internet(just look at the explosion of communications devices in the past decade), people will be less inclined to purchase a device that offers little to no method integrating online capabilities especially when it comes down to video game consoles, and there software libraries It is really a shame that almost all of Nintendo’s first party titles for the Wii U offer little/to no online multiplayer capabilities. While the Mii verse is great, but I would like the ability to play SM Bros, and other titles with friends over the internet instead of strictly local play(The irony with that model is it actually sell’s less consoles to a certain degree). The idea of “family gaming” selling units is IMHO all but dead, or slowly dying, and the Wii’s success was solely based on a fad/gimmick at best, while $ony, and Micro$oft, maintain a quite respectable number of first party titles with online play against other players. It is in Nintendo’s best interest in adapting to the times or, risk turning into a company with the same failed business model that nobody likes to talk about….. Hint Hint talking about you SEGA. Finally I would like to add that I also own a 2DS, and even it’s library of games offer more online/competitive games than the Wii U has in it’s entire library, and in it’s own right the future of single players games is slowly fading into the abyss by games offering more replay value/content via the online community. Thanks again for reading my twisted rant of doom and gloom.

Ha ha, I needed to correct the grammar, and syntax.

  • David Byrad

Very true. Games are what I care for.

Wonderful 101 hit the nail on the head with Innovative and Intuitive controls, immense difficulty, an amazing soundtrack a killer storyline, spectacular special effects and gameplay that makes you never want to stop.

Pikmin 3 was great for it’s stunning and imaginative environment, OCD inducing collectibles, multitasking aspects and a system that really drives home the feeling of urgency.

Wind Waker HD had gorgeous environments, shading that just blew me away and fluid gameplay via the use of the gamepad as an inventory. I don’t care what anyone says, it only takes a split second to look down at the Gamepad, tap an icon and look back up. Now think of the applications: Use it as you run to not break the fluid motions of travel, switch weapons in the middle of battle without ever breaking up gameplay, or just check your map as you sail along the seven seas/hunt for treasure.

Super Mario 3D World was a great game for kids and 3D speedrunners alike, but what set it apart was it’s creative level design and addition of the cat suit that allowed for at least 3 different ways to get to any portion of any level! This adds great replayability and the simple joys of running up walls like a boss.

And then there’s Nintendo Land that brings up a whole slew of both single and multiplayer minigames in the ultimate Wii U party game. While it may not be chock full of things to do, that combined with Game and Wario should give any family enough things to do together.

All in all, the Wii U already has 5 great exclusives and many more to come! (Game and Wario could not be commented on since I don’t own it)

MK8 will bring even more amazing party multiplayer, a great kart racing game and the best graphical style so far. In addition, it’s going to be like F-Zero GX all over again (Or, at least the riding on ceilings and walls thing)

SSB4 will bring in all of the players looking for difficult games that require true skill (The media botched this with the Wonderful 101 because it is a very unusual type of game), the competitive gamers, and it will once again be helpful for encouraging family fighting (I mean bonding), oh and don’t forget the removal of non-smash related topics on miiverse.

Zelda U will bring countless untold riches I can’t even imagine.

Bayonetta will bring in all of the Dude Bros not already on the Nintendoomed train.

DKC:TF will be yet another venture for difficulty and other goodies.

And then there is all those other games that will surely be amazing too.

    • Leo

Grest post Byrad! The Nintendoomed train is bound to crash!

  • wiimenonowiiu

They bashed the wii and look it out sold ps3 and 360 the wii u will be the same nes always bring kick ass games

    • oontz

the wii didn’t outsell the ps3 and 360 because of gamers… lol, unless you consider seniors in old folks homes “gamers”

      • wiimenonowiiu

The wii brought something new other then just site on your butt and play and the wii has a big library of games the wii u is made to do both zombie u is a great game. I rather play ac3 and ac4 on wii u rather then ps3 and 4 the major down fall are 2 things online play and achevements. the good thing is that the wii is just not for kids and the wii u is the same more mature games but can have family fun like playing mario 4 ppl at a time now thats a challange

      • http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008SRISGU#reader_B008SRISGU Adam Howell

Almost everyone had a wii including almost all gamers. Yes, some old folks homes got one but they were a minority. The problem for Nintendo was their system wasn’t hd and was too slow. They lost support of third parties and the rise of HDTV’s made all wii games looked extremely ugly.

The sale ratio of Wii games per console was almost the same to the ps3.

        • oontz

“Almost everyone had a wii including almost all gamers.”

No, almost everyone had one yes (that’s why sales were through the roof), but most gamers stuck with their xbox and ps3. How many of those millions of original wiis sold were still being played 2 years ago? 3 years ago? Not many, most were impulse buys by NON gamers and ended up collecting dust.

          • Guest

“No, almost everyone had one yes ”
            Lol :)

          • oontz

No, the ps3 didn’t sell at first. The wii era started to die around the time the ps3 era picked up for the reasons i stated. 7th gen was really in two halves. Wii’s collected dust when they were way past their sell by date but they shifted plenty of software in their early years.

  • Magnus Eriksson

“… but “resurrected” from what? The Wii U is far from dead.”

Of course its dead. Its been so since march 2013. Resurrection is a very suitable term here, as its really a matter of reanimate a dead corpse. More than one year and only one very good NEW game. To be honest it only got to great games, and one of them is a ten year old remake. A new Metroid as soon as possible could attract some of the gamers needed instead of those casuals who doesnt care about consoles anymore.

    • Guest

      its not dead*

    • Leo

Again, what did you play on Nintendo consoles in 2013?

      • Magnus Eriksson

Nintendo Land, NSMBU, NSLU, Darksiders II, ZombiU, Zelda WW HD, SMB3DW, Tekken Tag, Trine 2, Assassins Creed 3, Pikmin 3, W101, Neo, Puddle, Duck Tales Remastered to name a few.

        • Leo

And with all of this its a “dead corpse” for you?

    • http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008SRISGU#reader_B008SRISGU Adam Howell

I played a number of very good games on my wii U, but Mario 3d world and Windwaker HD were the only high profile system sellers. The first year of the wii U was probably damaged further because it was also the best year ever for ps3 games. Games like The Last of Us and Bioshock infinite probably convinced many that they’d be better sticking with the ps3 and waiting for the PS4.

Nintendo could have done a much much better job with the Wii U’s launch.

    • C4

I read the term “revitalize” elsewhere and I think that’s a better description of what Nintendo needs to do, and to some degree has already started with a steam of games from late summer to Mario 3D World.

“More than one year and only one very good NEW game. To be honest it only
got to great games, and one of them is a ten year old remake.”
Well, I’d say Pikmin (which started development on Wii), Zelda (GC Port as you said) and even Mario 3D World (kind of like a huge add-on to Mario 3D Land) were the first wave of Wii U games.

I don’t know how their strategy looks like, I mean X looks brilliant but as an RPG it might not have that much mass appeal, same about Bayonetta, and Zelda U maybe is 2 or 3 years away in worst case. The whole exploration and 1st Person Adventure Shooter in Metroid Prime still feels so fresh (especially compareed to most FPS :P ) and can even be enhanced with GamePad features (as long as it’s compatible with Pro Controller and maybe the good old remotes) so it really sound like a logical choice :)

  • Elem187

Well no s&@$ Sherlock… Software sells systems, same as it ever was.

  • http://www.twitter.com/wheres_my_phone zzzzz

They should have released it in 2010. I’m not sure how well it will do now but it will be okay. It just needs some better games. 3D World is okay but like a lot of the games on WiiU it feels like reruns and not much is new.

The screen on the gamepad hasn’t been put to great use either. I was kind of hoping they’d introduce some new gameplay elements. ZombieU is the only game that’s made good use of it. At least if it fails we’ll get a new Nintendo console sooner rather than later.

    • Virus6

If they released it in 2010, we still wouldn’t have any more games

    • oontz

“The screen on the gamepad hasn’t been put to great use either. I was kind of hoping they’d introduce some new gameplay elements. ZombieU is the only game that’s made good use of it.”

Couldn’t agree more. Yeah it’s great having remote play… but the possibilities are there for amazing gameplay that just hasn’t been shown, not even by Nintendo themselves.

      • AceRuby

Rayman Legends used it perfectly also.

        • oontz

and that’s the problem… Nintendo has yet to show the world WHY having a second screen at home is a BIG deal. Remote play can only carry the gamepad so far.

  • Yousif Alromaithi

this idea that EA controls its devs like some colonial slave master is clearly wrong, If they did then surely abominations like medal of honor war fighter and wild experiments like mass effect wouldn’t get released.

they have done alot of things wrong like passes, repackaged games (fifa on anything that’s not xbox/ps3), dismissing Nintendo, scary amounts of dlc, Holding the Porsche licence so they dont appear in other games but i dont think they force their devs to do anything.

the micro transactions for dead space 3 most of the money goes to the dev with EA only taking a cut, the foolish always online simcity was the devs idea as they wanted to make an online game but didn’t want to use it in the title. the ‘forced’ multiplayer for mass effect that everyone claimed ate up team’s time and only existed to milk money with dlc map packs turned out to be made by another team (the mass effect 4 team) with its own budget and started life as a separate downloadable mass effect FPS. it had free DLC and optional micro-transactions that again went straight into BIOWARES pockets

    • abe

      compare EA vs activision
3 core rock band games, 1 lego version, 1 beatles version, 1 portable version, 1 spin off and dlc on disk packs with content flowing between the games (bar beatles)

6 core guitar hero games, 5 band games, 1 band hero spin off, 2 portable versions (with stupid add-on), 2 DJ versions only 3 games supported song transfer .

I kind of think cancelling Skyward sword for Wii and releasing a hd version of skyward sword with the option to play it with the gamepad (perhaps using the second analogue to swing your sword) Would have given the Wii U it’s killer launch game.

It’s probably my least favourite 3d Zelda game but it’s still in many ways a truly amazing game.

A western HD release of Fatal Frame 4 near launch would have added to ZombiU in helping show the wii U was a serious place for survival horror.

I just think Nintendo was capable of doing a much better job in those early months. I think they thought that multi plat ports of old games would compensate for the lack of new stuff from them. But they just made the Wii U look bad and slow.

    • Leo

If anything, the first year of the WiiU proved that a company should never rely on multiplat games. Once those third parties are gone you are left basically all by yourself only with your own internal teams. I don’t think Nintendo would ever trust those companies anymore to carry a console at the start. It makes me wonder the dangerous path that both Microsoft and Sony (especially Sony) are treading by fully entrusting their systems on those unreliable third parties companies. Unlike Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony don’t have the stamina to carry a console all by themselves if it happens what happened to the WiiU.

      • oontz

“It makes me wonder the dangerous path that both Microsoft and Sony (especially Sony) are treading by fully entrusting their systems on those unreliable third parties companies.”

Are you being sarcastic? Seeing as Sony owns 13 FIRST PARTY Studios making games only for their systems/platforms. Not to mention they currently have 180 PS4 games in development, indie, psn, and retail. How exactly are they “fully entrusting their system on those unreliable third parties companies.”

        Please explain.

        • Leo

You can’t possibly compare Sony’s exclusives IPS with NINTENDO IPS, there is simply no comparison. Sony depends HEAVILY on third parties to carry a console and it has been this way since the PS1, Sony wishes to have an IP like Mario, Zelda or Metroid to be able to walk on its own legs without overdependence of the industry but till this day it hasnt managed to find a single IP that could definitely garantee their systems. That’s why they allow those companies do everything they want without any restrictions so they can have a nice relationship and wouldn’t suddenly abandon the console like is usually the case with Nintendo. Sony has always been all about quantity over quality. There is simply no denial against this fact.

          • oontz

“Sony depends HEAVILY on third parties to carry a console and it has been this way since the PS1″

Are you THAT nieve? Sony has enough (Sony Owned) First party studios and enough AAA IPs to be able to sell its consoles.

“but till this day it hasnt managed to find a single IP that could definitely garantee their systems.”

They have many IPs that always guarantee console sales… Uncharted and GranTurismo… just to name a few.
Here is a complete list of Sony owned IPs
            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_Computer_Entertainment

“That’s why they allow those companies do everything they want without any restrictions so they can have a nice relationship and wouldn’t suddenly abandon the console”

What companies are you even talking about? If you’re talking about the 13 Sony OWNED developers… well it’s impossible for them to abandon the console since they are owned by Sony and only make games for Sony consoles.

          • Leo

If you wanna compare Mario and Zelda with Uncharted and Grand Turismo there is no hope for you. Look at this way: a Nintendo console full of Marios and Zeldas is possible, its a proven fact that it can be sustained on those IPS alone, a Sony console full of Uncharteds and Grand Turismos simply not, this is not rocket science. Get real!

          • oontz

            Are you a tool?

I wasn’t comparing those IPs to Mario’s and Zelda’s. I was responding to your comment of…

“till this day it hasnt managed to find a single IP that could definitely garantee their systems.”

Well people buy sony systems JUST to play SONY first party IPs. That is a fact.

            And then this…

“a Nintendo console full of Marios and Zeldas is possible, its a proven fact that it can be sustained on those IPS alone”

Laughable. What is this magical Nintendo system that was sustained throughout it’s life with ONLY Mario and Zelda titles, and nothing else? Yeah sorry but as the current state of the wiiu sales attests to… it really can’t be sustained just on those two first party IPs. People want more variety. Bottom line. Think it’s you who needs to get real.

I also love the fact you pussy footed around the valid points I made about your flawed original argument, most notably…
“Sony depends HEAVILY on third parties to carry a console and it has been this way since the PS1″
            LOL

          • Leo

Because it does my dear, i don’t have to repeat myself. You read it right, Sony depends HEAVILY on third parties to carry a console and it has been this way since the PS1 and EVERYONE knows this. There is no problem to admit the fact that Sony sucessfully courted third parties companies because Sony NEEDS them. Nintendo on the other hand has had inconsistenly third party support ever since the N64 and here we are in 2014 with Nintendo standing still with a console notoriously abandoned by third parties in its first year and sustained HEAVILY on its own IPS, and guess what? They can! People actually buy Nintendo consoles to play Mario and Zelda! Imagine if Sony didn’t have support it has in the industry, it would be a nightmare since the majority of the world couldn’t care less about exclusive Sony IPS, they buy Sony consoles because it has a FULL SUPPORT of the industry.

          • oontz

I still have to disagree with you. I (and millions of other gamers) buy systems based on their EXCLUSIVE content. Just like nintendo. Sony is no different. The have a massive first party exclusive offering. They do not rely on 3rd party titles, that’s just the icing on the cake.

          • Leo

I see it exactly the other way, games like Uncharted and Grand Turismo are the icing on the cake for Sony. It’s exactly the opposite with Nintendo consoles which the icing on the cake would be third parties games, but the main purpose of Nintendo consoles are their own IPS, we have seen extensive reports in the industry (by Nintendo itself and countless companies) alleging that Nintendo builds their consoles solely target for their own IPS. Do i think this practice is totally right? No, i certainly don’t. But this is Ninty for you, you can take it or leave it since they likely won’t change their policy anytime soon considering that this policy has been working successfully for them (making profits) since the N64 days. On the other hand, i don’t think its right to solely base a system on third parties either, as i said on my post, its a VERY dangerous practice (in a atypical situation of Nintendo, neither Sony or Microsoft would have its own legs to carry a console alone), but each on their own.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

All fanboys disregard the valid points. It’s just about proving you wrong despite there being no real factual points to be had. Lol.

          • C4

Agreed, Sony could live with mostly 1st Parties, however historically PlayStation is also popular for 3rd Party games. Everyone knows RE, MGS, FF, GTA, CoD and so on are on PlayStation and the 3rd parties won’t change that strategy except most are not exclusive anymore. That also allows Sony to do games which are not Mainstream or 15 years old IPs examples like ICO on PS2 or last year The Last of Us, Beyond (PS3) or Knack and the upcoming The Order (PS4) – I think for a manufactor it’s always important to somehow push beyond what has been done in the past. Nintendo used to do that as well, if you look at the SNES library Nintendos games for many people are more like what you can describe “as the icing on the cake” – a handful of brilliant games who push boundaries but not necessarily have to sell 10 millions and instead fortify the platform itself :)

          • oontz

Some very valid points. Most notably this gem…

“I think for a manufactor it’s always important to somehow push beyond what has been done in the past. Nintendo used to do that as well”

So far (in my opinion) Nintendo’s own offering on the wiiu has been a little to safe. They are not about taking risks at this time with the software they are developing and releasing. The same tried and true games and IPs from before with a shiny new HD coat of paint, that’s all I am seeing.

    • AceRuby

Skyword Sword was already done far ahead of the Wii U’s launch you can’t really blame them for not having a Zelda game at launch. Plus I don’t see the difference really when they ended up having the HD remake of Wind Waker in the first year anyway.

  • matt

Yes it’s like everyone is ignorant towards the truth that is when WiiU has Mariokart8/Smash/Bayonetta2/ect it will sell 12 million minimum worldwide a year.

  • http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008SRISGU#reader_B008SRISGU Adam Howell

The dream game id like Nintendo to make… I’d like the Fire Emblem devs to team up with the Total War devs and make a massive seamless openworld real-time strategy rpg with the best elements of total war and key elements of fire emblem and set it in the fire emblem world.

I’m not saying it would sell but for me it would be a killer game that could take advantage of the gamepad.

But no… We get more Mario Kart… I like Mario Kart, and will buy and enjoy it, but come on Nintendo. You’re the company that gave us ocarina of time. Push the boundary’s a bit. Wow us.

I might get hate for this, BUT I really do hope EA decides to return to making WIIU games. I have always been a huge battlefield fan and need for speed fan. Regardless of changing studios over years. They do need some new IP, which I know they said they are working on. Hope next nintendo direct they show off some Monolith X gameplay. But yes MK8 looks amazing! :P

  • Super Mattio

I cancelled my PS4 pre order and my 360 is gathering dust rapidly! The reason……. Super Mario 3D World! Variety, sheer delight and just plain fun! I think my Wii U will overheat once Mario Kart and Smash Bros comes out! Just pray for a Starfox and F Zero game in the future! Quality over quantity! Nintendo make a difference!

    • devmiles

super mario 3d world, nice game, bright, but super easy and short leveldesign.. i’ve had it a bit with those mario’s. if you’re a super kid i understand but i’m from the early 80′s when games were far more hardcore and challenging.

      • Super Mattio

haha I’m 43!! Just love Nintendo! You have a point, i grew up playing Super Ghouls n Ghosts and other challenging hardcore games and you are right, games are certainly easier than a couple of decades ago! Still there’s bags of fun with Wii U titles and Virtual console to test you!

  • Super Mattio

We want F-Zero please Nintendo! Let’s help this happen fans!
    http://www.change.org/petitions/f-zero-wii-u

  • Booboabao

Excited as a Wii U owner for the upcoming releases. Also being a PS4 owner I’m actually thinking about selling the PS4, it’s gathering dust.

    • oontz

      I call bullshit on this…

“Also being a PS4 owner I’m actually thinking about selling the PS4, it’s gathering dust.”

      • Booboabao

I already own blackflag, injustice, and need for speed on my Wii U and those are all PS4 launch titles. It really shouldn’t be that hard to believe. I also live in a house hold where we play together with kids (ages 9 and 13). I’ll be patiently waiting for thief but in the meantime I’m immersed in both Monster Hunter and deus ex directors cut. The PS4 does not have the games yet and battlefield isn’t ripping me away from monster hunters any time soon. Just my perspective as both a new PS4 owner and Wii U owner.

        • oontz

Well the PS4 just launched here in the end of December so maybe that’s why my perspective is different from yours. I am almost finished Killzone and got a free copy of AC4 as well still shrink wrapped. I also downloaded Resogun, Contrast and Warframe from PS+. I’ll probably pick up Battlefield but the glitchy online has me second guessing that. As for the wiiu, I’ve been playing SM3DW on and off with the wife and have WW-HD sitting waiting to go once I get through my PS4 games.

          • Booboabao

Oh ok that makes more since. The PS4 was more of an impulse buy for me. I have more then enough great games on the Wii U and the interface is allot intuitive for the rest of my family. I’ll hang on to it for the upcoming titles. Both consoles are really solid but the Wii U is my current go to. WW-HD is incredible enjoy!

  • edge

They need new IPs, or at least, to push Mario in the background a bit once MK8 and Smash Bros release. I’m looking far more towards games like X and Bayonetta. They need something that appeals to those adrenaline seeking “hardcore” gamers. I think it’s far more likely that those gamers will buy Mario games after seeing their critical acclaim, then it is for the Mario fan will buy those “hardcore” games like Battlefield.

  • Arthur Jarret

I see Captain Obvious has acquired yet another new identity.

  • linxz

for me there is no more killer game than MH3U

  • devmiles

killer games? what killer games? we know the regular nintendo ip’s aside from not confirmed metroid or starfox .. nintendo should make their games more challenging too… you play a few nights and you’ve gone through the game.. we need some serious challenge here. where are the days of castlevania 1, shadow warriors, solstice… come on do original

    • manowaffles

What are you talking about? Nintendo is one of the only companies still offering any reasonable challenge. New Super Luigi U has been one of the only non-indie games that has offered me any challenge in ages.

  • Syaka

Oh and where did I give any indication of what I play?

I’ve been with Nintendo since my childhood, I’ve bought into Nintendo every generation. I still have my Gamecube, Wii, and Wii U. I support Nintendo wholeheartedly but I’m by far nowhere near delusional enough to ignore the FACTs which is what the writers here have done.

  • Kenshin0011

So? Look at 2014 line up side by side, wii u is very decent

  • ScrewAttack

    Takes one to know one!

  • oontz

    decent, yes… dominating, no.

  • readypembroke

The Wii U version will probably sell the most as you don’t need multiple 3DS’s.

  • abe

the dual release of the 3DS and Wii U versions is a mistake, if they have the same content except levels it wont make people who don’t have a Wii U but do have a 3DS buy a Wii U

a killer app/game cant be available else where and whilst we know they are very different versions the general public’s perception of a game is often affected if “the same game” can be played on a console and comparatively limited handheld, and since the general populus is having trouble telling the Wii U and Wii apart that’s not going to help.

the 3DS version needs a tagline like ‘Portable’ or ‘Dojo’ and the Wii U version needs a hook like a story mode, extended multiplayer options, DLC (preferably unlock-able) costumes and the ability to use the 3ds versions in some way e.g. a Mii character that can be trained on the 3ds and played on the Wii U version

  • readypembroke

Not really, people still enjoy local multiplayer and I don’t really see it going away soon.

  • Yousif Alromaithi

Off-course better graphics and better online. The game will sell millions.

  • Magnus Eriksson

How is that even possible? 3DS got 10x the install base.

  • Elem187

Uhm the ps4 announced exclusives look like the same BS of the last 7 years… Shooting games galore and interactive cinema that shouldn’t even be considered a game…. Sorry X, SMTxFE alone dominate anything coming out on the ps4

  • oontz

LOL, yeah like we haven’t seen any of these nintendo exclusives before… you’re a funny one. I love how everyone on wiiudaily touts “X” as the second coming of video game christ. Love it.

    In fact to quote “your” very words;
“I am trying to be a troll that uses technology and knowledge to its advantage…”

“Who should care about wanting to take revenge on me and my group? No one. That is all.”

” I love how everyone on wiiudaily touts “X” as the second coming of video game christ. Love it.”

So it’s a highly anticipated title from Monolith Soft, why the melodrama?

  • oontz

no melodrama, just something I find funny. X is the “go to” rebuttal for anything on wiiudaily.

  • Rinslowe

I don’t think so. People are just enthusiastic about it, that’s all.

And if this isn’t melodrama, lol…

” I love how – everyone – on wiiudaily touts “X” as the – second coming of video game christ – .”

  • oontz

ha ha, okay maybe a little. But I stand by my point.

  • Rinslowe

Well, despite what the trolls might have to say about it. Personally I respect your right to an opinion. Even if I myself see it differently.

Oh and btw, my money is on you yourself having a blast with X when it releases… :P

  • oontz

Not a huge fan of that genre to be honest.

  • Rinslowe

    Well then that explains it…

  • oontz

I’ll still try it out… maybe it’ll be the one. lol

  • Magnus Eriksson

Its released on both because N. gave up on Wii U.

  • ScrewAttack

“Facts” he’s so fond of yet can’t muster himself to prove his position!

  • Syaka

I’ll even make it simple enough so someone as ignorant as you would understand. This is of course all from Nintendo’s own financial report.

Why are Nintendo’s underlying numbers not optimistic?
    1. Net income has been dropping for the past five years and even taking a costly loss in 2012 (¥43,204). 2013 has proven barely profitable (¥7,099) due to yen depreciation.
    2. Stock prices for Nintendo have also dropped consistently since 2008 from its high point of $50 a share to stabilize around $15 a share over the last year. Shareholder equity has dropped. This is all despite the fact that capital stock has remained the same.
    3. Wii U is clearly admitted by Nintendo as “having negative impact on Nintendo’s profits”. Aside from selling at a loss the console’s sales has trended down since launch (outside of holiday seasons) and has been selling around the rate of the Gamecube (4.6 mill/year x 6 years -projected console life cycle- = 27.6 million consoles) which at least sold at a profit.
    4. Overall sales has dropped over the past year (¥647,652 -> ¥635,422). The international market, led by Europe accounts for a substantial drop (¥217,382 -> ¥169,887) that surpasses growths in the domestic market.
    * All yen numbers given in millions.

Since you asked for them and have made it clear you don’t know sh!t about business I just pointed out some very clear facts. I’m educating the ignorant after-all.

You claim I wouldn’t know “fact” if it hit me in the head when you have written five comments without proving or pointing out a single fact.

You can’t and won’t respond to these facts either. That must be how you argue in real life too right? Get angry, scream a lot, cry and think you’ve proven your point :D.

  • ScrewAttack

Oooh you’re so aggressive and intelligent :p Let’s start shall we: 0/10- REFERENCES. Reference your work or it might as well be a short story about my little pony. Surely you’ve been taught that (maybe not those exact words)? You want to argue so rigorously, then I expect nothing less!

Now, that aside I’d like to make a note- I haven’t once disagreed with your point. Have you noticed? I’m simply playing devils advocate, because you seem too arrogant and boastful. Why is that? I hate to recreate what Magnus Errikson (sp) did to me,- gotta hand it to the guy, I might not often enjoy his humour, but he’s far from dumb- but what’s the reason for your aggressive, insulting demeanour? From the outset it’s been like that. Yes my opener was not picture perfect- I apologise for that much, I’m fairly stuffed up with some horrible tropical fever my parents brought back from their anniversary- but even so, your posts have been nothing but aggressive, insulting and unpleasant. Do you not enjoy being challenged? Frustration from real world social problems? Educated people don’t, or at least shouldn’t, post like you. You have problems my friend.

Of course I hope that gives some perspective for you- I might not have once made a single fact in my last few comments, but that’s intentional and because I wanted you to prove your position with some. Your closing insults and ridiculousness aside, no I don’t claim to be some financial analyst and it is fairly far from my field of expertise (astro-nuclear physicist, not that you care) but yes I’m very capable of a fair discussion on such topics if required to do so (the parties are crazy lol).

Now it’s entirely the booze that’s sedating me through yet another unpleasant night speaking, but care for a pleasant discussion on such things? Let’s see how much of your unpleasant demeanour is misunderstood retaliation and how much is just your personality.

EDIT: Sorry I can’t help it. In that respect we seem quite similar; you’re the one screaming, at the top of his lungs i might add. Crying optional.

    Ignore that bit.

  • Syaka

It was quite clear what you’re doing. You’re not the first person to act this way towards me. I did skip and skim through two comments of yours since as I pointed out before, you were not going to respond and answer my question.

    1. I did reference myself. All of it is from the financial report 2013 that I mention and have already linked before. Had you ever read it these very clear and important points would have been obvious. Referencing in accounting is not the same as in an essay.
    2. Devils advocate involves playing both sides. Seeing as you’ve not been able to mention a single point of data or fact nor even argue anything of value; It’s clear you weren’t advocating.
3.That’s expectation bias. After goading my education, specialization, and knowledge you expected me to treat you… nicely? Don’t be ridiculous.
    4. I’m not screaming anything out nor am I angry. People like you are far too common. Without knowing the facts you make opinions based purely on intuition and fantasy. I only took pleasure out of your hypocrisy and the fact that despite what you had challenged me on facts yet never been able to mention even one.
    5. My life is fine. Actually you have no idea how happy I’ve been these past weeks. My girlfriend is visiting, my grades came back past expectations, and the holiday season has brought the best savings in my life. Still because of those things did you expect me to treat people nicely regardless of what they say and do? That’s not rational.

It is my personality to treat everything seriously.I also don’t drink.

  • ScrewAttack

Well to be fair I did answer your question, just not how you intended :p
    1. Oh, fair enough. I suppose I’m used to a different way of referencing, got the link again?

    2. Devils advocate involves taking the opposite side for the purpose of discussion, not playing both sides. Well, unless you were to suddenly change sides yourself. Google it.
Uhuh, if you say so. I had no interest in providing a detailed counter-argument, I wanted to see yours. But, if you want to put words in my mouth and thoughts in my brain go ahead….

    3. You goaded my education first, I replied in kind :) So yes, that is indeed expectation bias, on your part!

    4. Your typing style would suggest otherwise. Try not to chew on your keyboard. I see you still massively miss the point so I shan’t bother with the rest of this.

    5. Good, I’m happy for you :) But very well, if you wish to continue to be a blind rage monster….

I won’t continue speaking to you then since it’s clear we’ll never have a good conversation. I suggest you take a chill pill and try not to treat life too seriously for a change, it’ll only kill you. As to the latter, you’re missing out but it’s your decision, everyone has their reason.

  • ScrewAttack

Good advice, if you want to avoid people acting like this towards you, is to not be an ass from the outset. The very way you speak (type) invokes irritation.

  • Syaka

Just read on. All you’ve done is explain your actions but still have not justified or supported your initial statement. After the first response I already knew you wouldn’t yet you seem to think I didn’t know what I was getting into just by answering you.

    1. http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2013/annual1303e.pdf
    2. I didn’t read it over. What I meant to say is that you have to play EITHER side. You did not advocate anything all you did was voice your opinion that I do not know the facts without proving so. It was clear to me when I first responded that you were talking about facts that you didn’t know yourself. I intentionally said I knew something that I couldn’t possibly know to test that fact out and of course it escaped you. I dragged things out and showed the facts late because I wanted to see how big of a fool you are. Though I already knew I was right, it’s nice to see you admit it yourself.
    3. I didn’t goad your education. I said very clearly that you didn’t know the facts yourself which had you did as a rational person would have never been able to question me. Instead you intended to waste my time and get a rise.
    4. Read my other comments then. Same committed, uncensored, writing style. Unless of course you want to say I’m angry in all my comments?
    5. Oh yes, I’m so very much a blind rage monster when you can’t seem to understand that this was out of psychological egoism, out of enjoyment of seeing idiocy. You want the truth? I’ve seen your comments in the past, I’ve seen you argue with SEVERAL people already and I know what you wanted and how you’d react. How can any gamer not have bumped into something from ScrewAttack? You took their name and stand in such contrast that I remember you.

A chill pill? Life is serious in so many ways that it’s bliss to ignore it all. I don’t forget that for a moment and I intend to do take everything seriously to honour that. Still, your hypocritical presumptions are wrong so often that I can’t help but enjoy this :].

If it still isn’t obvious to you, I don’t hold anything against you, there’s simply no reason to as I made my decision when I chose to respond.
