Project CARS to showcase Wii U’s “hidden power”

Slightly Mad Studios believes they can show what Nintendo's console is truly capable of.

project-cars-9

The Wii U’s graphical capabilities have long been the source of contention and debate. Detractors are quick to point out that the console is far behind the PS4 or Xbox One in power and will never be able to match them graphically.

Certain games, however, such as Nano Assault Neo and Need for Speed: Most Wanted, show there is yet potential for Wii U games to outshine the last generation.

Slightly Mad Studios, developers of the upcoming multi-platform release Project C.A.R.S., has added their two cents to the discussion, saying their game will “showcase the hidden power the Wii U has”.

Until now, Slightly Mad Studios has only mentioned GamePad features such as motion control when talking about the Wii U version, so it is encouraging to hear them refer to the console as being graphically relevant.

Will Project C.A.R.S. be the game that finally showcases what Nintendo’s console is capable of graphically? Or is this comment by Slightly Mad nothing more than PR talk? Let us know what you think in the comments below!

Need for Speed does indeed look really nice on the Wii U, so if this game will be graphically better than I look forward to seeing it in action. I’m waiting for the Nintendo first party game that will really push the console to it’s limits, hopefully Zelda U does this.

    • Sdudyoy

Metroid prime 3 on the Wii really pushed the limits that the Wii had, I’m wondering what a Metroid prime game would look like on the Wii U.

      • CEObrainz

That’s one of the games I’m really waiting for, I’ve liked all the Metroid games including Other: M. But a Prime 4 or Trilogy HD pack would be amazing.

        • MetroidZero

You and I are a part of the few who actually enjoyed the Primes AND Other M. :)

          • Sdudyoy

I loved Other M, I just didn’t like it as much as the Prime games, or the other classic Metroid games, I just think it had way to many cutscenes.

      • val berger

actually, MP1 really, really pushed the Gamecube. I think, the feelink of playing the first MP title was so amazing, I would claim it was even better than MP3. but sure MP3 is still one of the visually most amazing games of the past years.

        • Sdudyoy

I agree, Metroid prime 1 is one of my favorite video games, Metroid prime 3 was good, but I liked the feeling of MP1, don’t get me wrong there all great games, but if they made a 4th one I would want it to be more like MP1 than the other two.

          • val berger

there’s some strange downvoting bug going on here, but nethertheless, I also agree but don’t think they could find back to MP1s style. with Echoes, they started ruining the feeling of being completely alone on an unknown planet by introducing other friendly characters and with MP3, they even had to go down the Halo-road (at least a little bit) and I am afraid, they can’t go back now as they are just too much into storytelling these days. I’d totally prefer story telling the way MP1 did it. Just some clues and no real cutscenes. Another problem might be, that they really threw lots of ideas into the Metroid Prime Franchise and I’m not sure if there is too much room left to surprise us. I wouldn’t say I am one oof those who’d prefer playing a 2D game over a 3D game, as 3D really did a good job on delivering an amazing and modern appealing experience, but maybe they should revamp their recipe another time.

    • Sonic the Hedgehog

Also shows that Wii U is not a weak console. AT ALL.

      • DC777

Apparently they haven’t tried Black Flag. Wii U can handle quite a bit. Look what you thought ps3 was capable of years ago and look at the difference in the last couple of years. Some lazy, overpaid devs just want to copy and paste the game it takes them five freakin years to make anymore.

        • LopsidedPasta

If I reply to this conversation, will I get 270 dislikes also?

          • Sonic the Hedgehog

Apparently it’s a loner who has the time to click on the dislike button 270 times, so let’s just sit back and laugh at the loser.

Hey, dislike bot, see if you can cross a thousand!

    • val berger

tested the game as well on PS3 and WiiU and gota say, while it may look best on WiiU, it’s not that much better than the PS3. At least not enough to speak from ‘outshining’.
When I played it on the PS3, it was like ‘whoa, who needs a new gen of consoles, this looks amazing!!!’ and when I played it on the WiiU, it had a bit (not THAT MUCH) better textures and a bit better framerate. But in the end, I am very confident, that the WiiU could do much more. 2 Player games on Gamepad VS TV would have been possible or 1080p. So after all, this game just looked a bit better than on the ps360, but not enough to speak from a new gen of consoles.

  • Ace

I doubt that it is just PR talk. We have heard and seen glimpses of what the Wii U is capable of. Devs just need to learn how to take full advantage. Sounds like Slightly Mad has actually taken the time to do so.

  • palomino blue

Hopefully by “Hidden Power” they aren’t just referring to some new uses of the gamepad and Miiverse and they are speaking graphically.

    • Peter Parker

Actually, if you read the article, he praises the Wii U’s graphics in the game :)

      • palomino blue

That’s good news. That’s what everyone who frequents this page should want to hear.

  • Alexander Kleinwechter

Im really excited about to see what they can do. Even though graphics and power isnt everything, it seems its certainly very important in this generation. I expect to get my mind blown :)

    • AkaLink77

What the hell is happening to disqus!!?? just look at the pics i took! ( there’s a dislike button bug or hacker)

      • WhataShame

Apparently we have a case of frustrated, socially inept, trolling grief-itis. Don’t these douche-bags have any sort of life outside of griefing the interwebs? Disgust doesn’t begin to describe my loathing for people like this. I’m seeing it all over here.

      • Michael Ngo

There’s a difference between voicing an opinion, and deserving to get electrocuted.

      • Ace

Yeah I was wondering the same thing. Trolls will be trolls I guess.

  • Ducked

Anyone know when this game comes out? I’m really looking forward to it! Not as much as Mario Kart 8, but still…

  • Kyle

Maybe it’s me but, I don’t get it, the Wii U is the closest a Nintendo console has ever been to the PS4 and Xbone. Big difference? Not at all. Slight difference? Yeah, sure. Maybe last generation when comparing Wii to Ps3 but not now.

    • The Clockwork Being

Well there isn’t any other Nintendo console that came out at the same time as the PS4 and X1.

      • Wighead

?? I don’t think you understood what he was trying to say.

  • NintendoNoob

Knowing Wii U it’s hidden power would be dragon. Sooo powerful that the only thing keeping it back is itself. Pokemon reference for all those peeps out there

  • Flawless Victory

My body is ready for Project CARS.

  • Sydney Ultrasyd

Awesome. When will this game come out ?

    • Javier Smith

Slated release date is Q3/Q4 of 2014, so nothing is set in stone quite yet.

  • shaun

Last generation was a large leap in graphical power for 360/PS3. This generation? Not so much we’ve hit somewhat of a plauteau and the Wii U surpasses last gen and has made the difference very minimul in comparison this time around. In the end it’s all about compelling strong creative games.

  • Guest
    • Ducked

      DUCKTALES! WOO!

      • TaintedXGamer

        NIN-TEN-DO! WOO HOO!

  • WhataShame

The Wii U is MORE than capable of generating games with ‘next gen’ visuals. Most who do bash the system’s power, do so relating the system’s architecture to other’s using buzz words and absolutes that are outdated and no longer apply to the way systems process, share resources and move workloads around. The Wii U’s biggest weakness isn’t it’s power, it’s the shortage of developers/publishers willing or able to put the time and resources into bringing out the system’s true abilities. Smart, dedicated system-specific coding that plays to a system’s strengths takes time and money beyond what most companies are willing to commit at this point. It isn’t going to blow the two new kid’s out of the water, but it’s powerful enough that it really doesn’t have to… given the proper love and investment of resources. It looks someone is trying. I can’t wait to see how the finished product looks and plays.

  • wober2

Yey a positive developer who works with what is given! Not a negative nancy like EA devs…

    • Phillip Fauble

I think it’s more the publishing side of EA that’s the issue. I don’t know how DICE feels about Nintendo but Crytek had nothing but good things to say. I have no idea on their other devs but the nerds doing the creating seem to be a lot more respectful in general.

    • NkoSekirei

its mostly Ea their just @$$es not the devs

  • Travis Morton

I just bought a wii u a week ago and it is better than I expected. It’s got the best web browser I’ve have ever used. I have played some demos on the store of 3rd party games some looked worse or equal to xbox 360(I’m guessing bad ports) and there were a couple that looked better.

    • palomino blue

I’m finding Netflix to be a far better experience on my Wii U than my Blu Ray player too. Well done, Nintendo.

      • Travis Morton

More apps and 3rd party games is what wii u lacks. Maybe bluray playback would be a good feature if possible. I don’t know what type of disc drive the wii u uses it might be some weird custom disk drive.

        • Decker Shado

Word is the WIi U disk is a proprietary drive that just so happens to be 25gb.. the size of a single layer Blu-Ray. It may be possible, but it was never planned to have blu-ray playback.

Perhaps like the Wii, a version may come out with playback later. The Wii had a model with DVD playback, but that only came out in Japan if I recall correctly.

          • Flopperop

The older Wii disc drive revisions of every region (as far as I know, manufactured mid-2008 or before I think) are able to play some or most DVDs when used in combination with a homebrew media player that you can download at wiibrew.org called WiiMC. I’ve been meaning to test the DVD player functionality of WiiMC on a Wii U in virtual Wii mode, but I haven’t gotten around to it yet.

        • Wighead

I don’t care about bluray playback since I have a bluray, but I’m with you about apps. The Wii U should have tons of cool apps, since the gamepad/tablet is made for cool apps. It has a microphone, speakers, touchscreen, camera, gyroscope (if I remember it well) and tons of buttons for tons of options. Of course having good 3rd party games is a no brainer for Wii U success, but I think that apps are easier/cheaper/faster to develop and can bring something that the other two might not be able to provide.

          • Wighead

It weird how the massive downvotes are always around 270. Looks like a bug or else I wonder why people disliked my comment that much…

      • TaintedXGamer

Ouch looks like they got you too, I like netflix, on my wii u too :3

    • linxz

you’ve made the best addition to your living/game room. the more you have it around the more you will appreciate it. it’s a magnificent console with a few amazing games.

      • Nostalgic_Chaos

I’ve never seen so many thumbs down. LOL
Your comment was bad, but not THAT bad. People have no grace

        • AkaLink77

they arent official thumbs down. theres a bug or a hacker.

          • NkoSekirei

its probably trolls with multi accounts and i got the same downvote but not as much as linxz

          • Daniel Gonzalez

From what I know, it’s a bug. IGN and a few sites that use Disqus had this issue. I could be wrong, as there are some trolls out there willing to go to such lengths. In either case, it’s easier to ignore it.

        • Lusunup

how was it bad? If anything its motivated theres just a dislike troll spaming dislikes…

          • Nostalgic_Chaos

I was joking man lol. That was the whole point of the comment…

        • linxz

pretty impressed myself. it was meant to be a +ve comment.. :/

    • Rich Garriques

that is because most devs did ports to wii u when it got released you wont see better until this year. and no im not talking about exlusives only third parties did a shitty job for wii u

      • Jackson

        Get a key board dumbass

        • Norfair20X5

Here, let me show you the door. You are obviously drunk, sir.

    • Wighead

The browser made me use my Wii u every day since I bought it. It’s so convenient when I’m at home and my kids are watching tv and my girl friend wants to use the computer. The browser is even better when you compare it to the other console since the gamepad/tablet is the perfect tool to browse. I used the ps4 browser and yes it is fast but writing with a normal gamepad is the worst internet experience ever, it removes all speed advantage that other consoles could have over it, so I cannot see myself enjoying it ever.

      • http://ejercitogeek.net/ Mercurio2054

for me is one of the best browsers i have ever try.
and right now i’m on it : P

        • Cyrus

You mean console browser, right? xD
I mean yeah it’s a fine browser, but compared to a PC it’s just not the same, I’d even prefer IE ^^

But yes, for a console very convinient!

          • Marcos Parreira

Actually… No. It has been proved that Wii U’s Browser is better equipped for HTML5 than Internet Explorer 10. But if you prefer the PC, there is nothing I can do.

      • Jackson

        Get a keyboard dumbass lol

        • Oliver Barraza

Your so funny. Has anyone ever told you how funny you are? I know your funny because you “lol” at your own statements.

          • Nostalgic_Chaos

            lol

        • Rinslowe

Have you ever used those add on keyboards? I personally couldn’t stand them. Then Wii U came along and it was like…. Exactly…

      • Norfair20X5

I completely agree. I use my Wii U browser almost more than my PC browser. When I had more of a droughtof games I still used the shit out of my Wii U.

  • linxz

mainly PR, but there could be some truth to it

    • Peter Parker

I don’t think it is just PR, since they’ve had Wii U dev kits since early 2012, and they have been praising the controller’ posibilities, as well as Miiverse integration, so no, I don’t think it’s just PR talk

      • Andrew Chambers

They have shown some gameplay and it looks great.

And that was gameplay from over a year ago.

  • Peter Parker

Really excited to play this, especially using the GamePad as a car’s wheel. And dat graphics… All I can say about that is : “Holy sh*t”

  • Robert Butters

I am looking forward to this, but I am worried about braking and gassing on non-analog triggers. They work for NFS, but true racing sims like this require throttle finesse

    • Decker Shado

If they used the analog sticks instead, it might work. Like Gran Turismo on PS1 – right stick = gas/break left stick = steer. Or, to give full control to gas and break independent of each other, left stick = brake right stick = gas, tilting gamepad = steer.

      • Javier Smith

        That would be awesome.

  • Joey

I’m looking forward to this game, i already have 2 good racing games on my Wii U cannot wait for Mario Kart 8 and Project C.A.R.S.

  • Kidicarus1

I am definitely going to buy this game. I also firmly believe this will be title that will do well for the console too. Best part is the wii u is now starting to be respected , and stock is rising for Nintendo.

    • Rinslowe

Wii U sorely needs a simulation racer, IMO. :)

  • Nintenjoe82

This game had better live up to its promise. It would be good if it sells because we might actually get a steady stream of racing games on Nintendo….

    • NkoSekirei

thats why i put it on the wait and see list before purchasing

    • http://ejercitogeek.net/ Mercurio2054

when go out, try it for yourself, there will be a lot of haters from forza and gran turismo on internet talkng bad of this game

      • Rinslowe

        Who cares about them…

      • Nintenjoe82

I will ignore the haters. I’ve missed out on too many good games due to terrible reviews and internet lies.

My only fear is that it will be free to play or ruined by microtransactions. If the controls are solid and the framerate smooth, I will more than happy.

  • NkoSekirei

ok heres a thing we all know wii u is far more powerful then ps3 and 360 but we havent seen the wii u get pushed to its full power and thats wat annoys me with some of these 3rd party devs their being to lazy and the only developer that planning on pushing the wii u to its limit currently is monolith with X.

    • Andrew Chambers

Well, plus Slightly Mad Studios and Shin’en

      • NkoSekirei

        project cars does look amazing

    • NkoSekirei

im replying to myself but wtf is going with the downvotes i was stating the fact come on

      • Peter Parker

        It is simple man :

      • Kyle

I know lol. I really don’t know how I got over 250 Downvotes! It just isn’t me, it’s on nearly every lower comment.

      • Javier Smith

Not sure what’s going on, NkoSekirei. Can’t tell if it is a glitch or just an effect of the internets.

    • oontz

“thats wat annoys me with some of these 3rd party devs their being to lazy”

You always say this… what makes you think that developers are too lazy?

      • NkoSekirei

do i really need to explain it to you dude cause everyone else knows why.

        • oontz

          Please do explain it.

  • Brandon

Im not a fanboy or anything but when i first compared the wii u to the ps4 and xbox one it seemed not as strong so im really looking foward to seeing what it could really do.

  • Squid

This is very nice but I don’t have any plans for this game :/

  • LJay

I just cannot wait for this-nfsmw just wasnt enough for me,itl be ace being able just to pick up the wiiu pad and really kick the sh#t of realistic handling/sounding cars-the last semi serious racing game(remember things were different back then) i really enjoyed on a nintendo console was top gear rally on the N64 lmao!

Im glad there taking time to finish it properly-polyphony digital are you listening? :p

  • AkaLink77

This is an unoffical Zelda game (E3 demo) but it still looks awesome!

    http://gifti.me/i/D5UwSxtQ.gif

    • Guest

It looks okay. I remember seeing that a few years ago, but now we’re a few years ahead, I can really see that the actual Wii U version of this game will look ten times better. When you look at this closely, it’s only really about 3DS quality. The Wii U is light years ahead now. Expect the final version to look way better than this.

      • AkaLink77

thats what im implying, that it looks great for just a simple demo…now imagine the full game! :D and dont be so graphic-greedy

        • Nostalgic_Chaos

How am I being graphically greedy? I stated a fact. The final version will look better. I’m someone who is more about gameplay over graphics. Not sure where you gathered your assumptions from. You don’t know me.

          • DarkYoshi

It’s OK. You wasn’t clear enough, and some didn’t get what you said. We can’t read your mind either. When you’re unclear you only have to blame yourself, sorry.

          • Nostalgic_Chaos

I said nothing to indicate whatsoever that I’m a graphic whore, or graphic greedy. What I said regarding the 3DS was unclear yes, not about graphics.

          • DarkYoshi

I was referring to the 3DS part :) Maybe wrong post to reply to..

          • AkaLink77

            -_-

          • Nostalgic_Chaos

            That’s what I thought.

          • AkaLink77

            ;p

          • Nostalgic_Chaos

Do you get kicks out of giving folk a thumbs down? I’m sure that sums up your Friday.

          • AkaLink77

            B)

          • Nostalgic_Chaos

Wow, you give yourself a thumbs up as well? What a sad shit. Lol

          • AkaLink77

u assuming its me? and why so serious?

      • Zuxs13

        Are you being sarcastic?

        • Nostalgic_Chaos

Muahaha… It’s one of those do or die situations. The suspense is going to kill us. Let it be a mystery.

      • Nintedward

3DS quality? Are you suggesting that the 3DS can put out real time graphics on par with Xbox one and PS4? lol….

        • Nostalgic_Chaos

Don’t talk to me as though I know nothing about gaming, because you’ve been on a Nintendo forum for a while and have commented a lot. You can get off your high horse.

My comment was in the assumption that the Zelda U demo could be a cut scene. It’s just a demo. It was not an official Wii U version

          • Nice Ness

Ok, I am gonna say you took that WAY to seriously. What was that about?
We get what your saying (except the 3ds thing) but don’t be so sensitive dood

          • Nostalgic_Chaos

Not all, but most people I’ve come across on gaming forums are usually ass holes and have some kind of god complex just because they’ve been on a forum for a bit. Everyone always makes something out of nothing. You can’t make one simple point, without someone cherry picking it. It makes me sick, but hey, I guess that’s what happens on forums. I wont be around much anyway. I have better things to do.

            Enjoy.

          • Nice Ness

…he was just making a joke dood, calm down. You overact way to easily

          • Daniel Gonzalez

It was rendered in real time. This was confirmed long ago.

          • Nostalgic_Chaos

            Um, okay. Cool.

          • steve

ewww… most gamers would have known that it was’nt 3ds graphics.. ouch.

        • Nostalgic_Chaos

Obviously that isn’t what I was saying, if you actually read my comment properly. Get off your arrogant train.

          • Nice Ness

you need a coffee dood, something to calm your nerves

          • steve

            i think you’d better leave now…

          • Nostalgic_Chaos

            Kid, please.
I’m not going anywhere. It’s just a forum, I’ll come and go as I please.

So, I think you better leave now lol, or go talk to someone else

          • steve

do you feel, lucky.. punk?, do.. you.. feel lucky punk?? do you!?

          • Nostalgic_Chaos

            Lol, lucky?
What does luck have to do with it kid? Go get a grammar class and then come back to me when you can speak maturely and in a cohesive manner. I bet you don’t even know what cohesive means.

          • steve

a grammer nazi (on a video game forum) that has no humor what so ever, you must have alot of friends huh?

          • Nostalgic_Chaos

Oh, I’m a grammar nazi? I’ll take that as a compliment. Thank you.
Yes, I am educated and graduated at university. You?

          • steve

It’s (it-is) one thing to understand grammer, another to act like you cant read anothers comment because of it.

          • steve

oh and how much? how much you gunna bet me if i know what cohesive means, to be coherent. or understanding?

          • Nostalgic_Chaos

Great, you can read a dictionary. lol

          • steve

            nope, just educated.

          • steve

your just a bitter, lonely kid who probly watches way too much anime.

          • Nostalgic_Chaos

No, sorry, I’m actually 25 years old. In what way have I expressed being bitter?
I put a picture of an anime character as my avatar. Wow, stop the world. I like the anime which it comes from, and I like what the character represents. What does that have to do with anything? Yes, I like anime. So what?

Kid, stop talking, you’re making yourself look dumber with every comment.

          • steve

i guess being right looks dumb?

          • Nostalgic_Chaos

Right about what exactly? Am I missing something here, son?

          • Nostalgic_Chaos

            You’re*

          • steve

you’re* a faggot, Would you like that in cursive now as well?

          • Nostalgic_Chaos

Lol, yes I would that in cursive. Thank you.
Just give it up kid. You’re only entertaining me here. Are you having fun yet?

          • steve

Like*, learn to structure a sentence.

          • Nostalgic_Chaos

Ha, you of all people trying to correct me? Does that make you feel big? I graduated in English literature. My sentences are perfectly fine thank you.

          • Nostalgic_Chaos

I actually know how to write. What are you trying to achieve here son?

          • Nostalgic_Chaos

You’ve proven my point. To call someone a faggot on a gaming forum shows how much you care about yourself and just about how much you are loved by your parents. You’re too funny. What are you, 8?

          • Daniel Gonzalez

He’s right. The tech demo is nowhere near 3DS quality nor have I seen a 3DS game that looks that good. It looks PS3/360 quality at the very least. I do agree with you that it would look much better than this now that we’re a few years ahead. No offense, but your previous post was questionable. Lol.

          • Nostalgic_Chaos

PS3/360 is roughly actually what I meant, which is what I should have said. I said 3DS to try and highlight that a few years have passed now and the Wii U version and final product of that Zelda demo would look a lot better now. I used and said 3DS to pin point how that demo looks quite old in comparison to what we know the Wii U can do.

The colours and the lighting in the demo are nice, but it’s not anything THAT amazing.

          • steve

            ewww… but you said 3ds…

          • Nostalgic_Chaos

            Ewwwww………

      • Shota

you mean for 3ds a cutscene? 3ds can’t handle that graphics on it’s 800X240 screen.

      • steve

3ds quality? can someone show him a link between worlds

        • Nostalgic_Chaos

I meant to say more along the lines of last gen graphics, PS3, 360 etc… Saying 3DS was not meant literally. Get over it.
You say one misstep and it gets blown up like there’s no tomorrow lol

    • Nice Ness

where did you get this gif cause this looks like actual screen capture and not camera, I really want to see this in HD in capture but I can’t find it

      • AkaLink77

idk all i could find was the really nice gif up there.

        • Nice Ness

oh ok then, well dood, its nice as hell

    • LopsidedPasta

As far as Kickass graphics on the Wii U go, I say screw Project Cars. Monolith’s X is what you want! After that game comes out, there will be a sea of silence coming from the Anti-Wii U-graphics-whores

      • AkaLink77

        :P

      • JeanPaul

no there won’t… There will never be a sea of silence about anything…

      • Rinslowe

Actually. You’re probably right, lol. :)

      • Graeme Lynch

Um not unless Monolith vastly improve the graphics as from what we’ve seen so far it isn’t anything special.
Project Cars and similar simulator games are probably the best bet for creating a beautiful looking WiiU title.

    • Daniel Gonzalez

This is the art style they should go with. If Nintendo wants to show third parties of what they are missing, then this would be a good step. High visuals aren’t always necessary, but it couldn’t hurt.

    • Nope.avi

You know I can’t take you seriously when you post Zelda gifs while having that Zelda Cd-i avatar lol

  • Nostalgic_Chaos

The game might be interesting. I’ve just never been fond of the name… Maybe that’s just me cherry picking, though.

  • JeanPaul

When is this game supposed to come out?

    • Elem187

      End of this year

  • Mario73

the zelda tech demo shows us what the wiiu is capable of, no game to date has come close to something similar to that and that is because they are all ports. 1st party games and exclusives will be the ones that truly show what the wiiu is capable of because the games will be specifically built for wiiu

hey guys i recently started a Nintendo Podcast, i think its a good podcast so if you guys like podcast plz check it out :D

    Super GameChat

  • jrob23

I am psyched and worried at the same time. He keeps saying it will provide the same ‘core experience’ and then goes out of his way to say that there are things it can’t do compared to the other. “Core Experience” may just be the game itself and gameplay. It might mean it’s a gimped port like so many before it. I say this because I think the Wii U is TODAY, capable of giving you anything graphics wise that PS4 or Xbone can give..TODAY. In a year or two maybe not. So I want to hear that it will be the exact same game, except the added benefit of the use of the gamepad…not ‘same core experience” I remain optimistic but expect the worst when it comes to 3rd parties. I’m a little surprised more people aren’t picking up on his use of words and are as skeptical as me.

    • Elem187

The Wii u version will use the same lighting/shading as the ps4 because both run the latest OpenGL 4.3… The Wii u version will do 720p instead of 900p on ps4/xBone and the post processing effects won’t be as pronounced (AA)

Resolution and AA while helping a game look better, it’s not a massive difference.

      • jrob23

if all they can get is 720p than they shouldn’t be bragging like they are. I don’t buy it, I assume by their language that they think they are untapping all the Wii U’s potential and 720p is not doing that.

        • Peter Parker

Man, it is not just about resolution. You may see a pretty ugly game running on 1080p, while another one is simply terrific running on 720p. You can’t just assume that the game is beautiful for running on full HD. Slightly Mad is just sacrificing resolution to add more details, lightning and particle effects, nothing to worry about.

          • jrob23

I agree, what I was saying is that the above guy was wrong. That I believe the game will run at 1080p. There is a discernible difference between 720 and 1080 though especially if there is also some minute details missing due to hardware limitations. Can’t wait to see!

  • Matther777

As long as the physics stay the same as the PC builds I will be happy. This is a racing sim and it does not compare to Gran Turismo or Forza. Both great titles but this really steps it up and should bring the new standard in racing sims.

  • Damian Waga

Will this game be download only? Anyone know its current size? I’ve never been a fan of downloading games unless they’re portable, and the visuals of the game worry me and my now 24 gb wii u.

    • Matther777

No official word yet but probably going to be both downloadable and physical.

    • Elem187

      Get a 1,500gb hard drive ;) I did, only cost $60.

      • Damian Waga

Also not a fan of external drives. I suppose the page won’t help.

  • Jackson

Wii u is a step in the right direction for Nintendo, I’m still not hopeful in them unseating Sony or Microsoft in the U.S. Nintendo using a custom disc, custom CPU ,Smells like the same old shit to me ! come on! Grow a pair!

    • uPadWatcher

      Double standards much, Jackson?

  • MajorMaxim

I am extremely excited for this. Slightly Mad developed NFS Shift 2 and that was one of my favorite racing games of the generation. Great helmet and cockpit cams and some of the most visually stunning and visceral racing I have experienced. And the night racing. .. wow

  • kevin nun—-

I hope they are not trolling just so they can release a bad game saying that’s all the WiiU is capable of.

    • Elem187

They wouldn’t torpedo their own sales… They need as many sales as they can get. As soon as Miiverse gets a hold of the game and its crap, everyone will know.

  • Miguel Ferreira
    • Luca Invernizzi

It’s really early for rumors on a new pokemon game.

I really like the idea of having it on the WiiU, thought…

  • Rinslowe

This game will be beautiful. But I’m more interested in how it plays. Substance first, looks second.

    • oontz

Yes… a beautiful turd is still a turd.

      • Rinslowe

I’m also more interested in how it plays.. And then it can be very pretty, I would be much satisfied. But if it sucks. I’ll just get it on PC for the eye candy…

  • Satoru Iwata

Please understand. Nintendo is playing with power. No one can stop our money printing console.

    Thank you for supporting Nintendo.

  • RyuNoHadouken

    seems legit

  • Shigeru Miyamoto

Even I’m excited for this game, I’m so happy to see developers put hard work and effort into creating something magical. Taking pride in your work is one of the greatest virtues in life.

    • Nintenjoe82

I thought you didn’t drive and cycled to work every day?

  • oontz

What is wrong with the writers of this site? In one sentence you say this…

“Detractors are quick to point out that the console is far behind the PS4 or Xbox One in power and will never be able to match them graphically.”

Then to try and back/follow up your point using “however” you say…

“Certain games, however, such as Nano Assault Neo and Need for Speed: Most Wanted, show there is yet potential for Wii U games to outshine the last generation.”

Was your point that the wiiu is far behind the PS4/XB1 but still better than last generation? The style of writing comes off as confusing. What exactly are you trying to say?

    • Rinslowe

It’s not important. What is, is that Project Cars needs to be a solid simulation racer. And then a very pretty one. Then all is good with the world.

      • oontz

Agree it’s not important… just confusing. It’s not clear what the point was.

    • Javier Smith

      That’s exactly the point, oontz.

While detractors emphasize the Wii U being weaker than the new consoles, evidence suggests that the Wii U is still “next”-gen as it can outdo the last generation graphically.

Don’t know why that was confusing. The PS2 was weaker than the Xbox and Gamecube graphically, yet was still in the same “generation” when it came to visuals.

      • oontz

Point taken. Sorry it was just the wording.

  • Steven McDowell

    Crouching Cars, Hidden Power

  • Fuzunga

To pull off something like that, I’d say the studio would have to be…
    *puts on sunglasses*
    ..slightly mad!

    • oontz

      Ha ha… classic.

  • Simon Stevens

I think Zelda will be the game to show us, but project cars might provide a glimpse :)

  • InterTreble

This kind of third party titles are more than welcome on Wii U. They are just another good reason to buy a Wii U, not the most relevant one, i.e. first party ones. When good titles like Rayman Legends appear on Wii U and provide a better experience on Wii U, we will buy them on Wii U. This might be the case also for this title. Hopefully.

  • Lil J Moore

Who cares about graphics. If we are going by that then give me visuals like Super Mario 3d World, Mario Kart 8, and X. Nintendo may have a weaker system but never seem to disappoint in the graphics department which always seem to look better then anything on Sony and MS

    • TaintedXGamer

I rather Lovely to look at than Dark and Gritty, though that not saying that games like RE: relevations Wii u is s*** or AC4 on wii u.

  • Nintendoro

Just show us the Wii U footage already!!!!!!

  • Nope.avi

I’d say the power isn’t ‘hidden’, it just takes a bit of doing as the cpu is rather weak and there’s only 1 gig of ram to work with. If you used the fast ram and lower the resolution/use very little physics you can do pretty good graphics.

  • Rick Valenta

This looks awesome. I haven’t felt this way since they releases World Driver Championship on the 64′. GameCube and Wii never really had a legit racing sim. Though the Need for speed underground games on GameCube were great.

  • TaintedXGamer

if these guys can Push our beloved Wii U’s potential to the maximum, then all other people/publishers/game companies Saying that Wii u is S*** are Talking out of their arses.

  • Møhåmmęd Jårmøn

    When does this come out?

    • Peter Parker

      Probably this fall

  • C.S. Bailey

Any news on when we’ll see it?

  • Daniel

I love the Wii U. Nintendo games running in Native 1080p

  • FutureFox

Hidden power? What is this Dragonball Z? Is the Wii U about to go Super Saiyan or go Mystic? Was the past year a series of grunts and unnecessary segues to pointless scenes? I guess stay tuned for an all new episode of Wii U Z: Consoles of Doom Saga.

Ok, all joking aside, this would be best on Wii U if nothing else having a real (gamepad) rear-view mirror, if they do that, which they should since you already get the steering wheel accessory for a wii mote.

  • C4

Wait until you drive “Pixar” pCars ;)
