Bayonetta 2 launches in Japan this Summer

Bayonetta 2 Wii U

The recent Nintendo Direct revealed some awesome new Bayonetta 2 Wii U footage, but didn’t get too specific about a launch date. Now Nintendo and developer Platinum Games have gotten a bit more specific: Bayonetta 2 will launch in Japan this Summer, and later this year, us Westerners will get to enjoy it.

Bayonetta 2 is generating a lot of excitement among Nintendo fans and Wii U owners — it’s quite a departure from what Nintendo usually releases. Nintendo shocked many when they revealed that they had acquired the rights to the franchise, and perhaps even more surprising is that Bayonetta 2 will be rated Mature. Nintendo rarely, if ever, publishes Mature-rated games.

Damn i get first this time but i wish they just release this at the same time ..we need games bad

  • WiiUPS4

Bring to us too at the same time nintendo

  • Simon Stevens

    Nintendo…. why :’(

    • Nintendofreak

well….a Japanese company releases a game on japan first… oh my god who would have thought

      • The Clockwork Being

Not really… See Sony for example.

      • Simon Stevens

Sarcasm?, considering we are on the same team, I say, WANKER!, now, good day to you sir!, also, considering the state the Wii U is in right now, a sameday release outside of Japan should certainly be a given.

      • andrewjcole

I’m pretty sure he’s not freaking out because it’s released later elsewhere. Probably just because it’s so long from now.

        • Simon Stevens

Bit of both really, more so because I’ve been waiting forever for it, bought the Wii U for Bayonetta 2 and X, both…. so far away :’(

  • The Clockwork Being

I’m kinda worried for the Wii U right now. The Nintendo Direct was great and I loved the content on there but really it said it focused on things coming by the end of Spring. So far on Wii U we know only about Mario Kart 8 which comes out on May 30. The rest of games had no release dates. So the focus was majorly on Spring titles coming on 3DS and just 1 on Wii U, that’s disappointing.

Now seeing that, Reggie lied to us when he promised there would be a constant stream of games during 2014. I mean from February to May there will only be 2 Wii U games. Those games being Dk and MK8.

Not only that but Iwata said they had more games scheduled for 2014 that they didn’t talk about in order to not let competitors copy them. So far we have heard of Hyrule Warriors which was a great surprise for Wii U.

Hopefully much more are announced because I believe in Iwata’s and Reggie’s words but so far I see nothing.

Edit: Just forgot to add that the Wii U won’t be keeping its lead for long on the other current gen consoles. With the Wii U at about 5.9-6.0 million and the PS4 at 4.9-5.1, once the PS4 is released in Japan, which guaranties a build up of a 1 million sales in 2 weeks or even more the Wii U will lose its lead.

Edit to the Edit before: People are asking me what the PS4 has until June. They say nothing but Infamous. What let me show you how wrong you are:

    Child of Light
    Infamous:Second Son
    EA Sports UFC
    Dying Light
Dynasty Warriors 8:Xtreme Legends Complete Edition
    Joysound Dive 2
Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes
    MLB14: The Show
    Nikppi no Puzzle 4: Soduku
Nobunaga no Yabo Onlune: Tenla Mugen no Sho
    Nobunaga no Yabo: Sozo
    Octodad: Dadliest Catch
    Outlast
    Rayman Legends
    Ryu ga Gotoku Ishin!(Yakuza 5)
    Thief
    Totterno E Mahjong Plus

All this between Now and June. That’s a lot until June.

The HD development is killing Nintendo. They need more people to make the games faster, but they are not making enough to do so. They could use Nintendo of America, but they do not consider that a real part of Nintendo and they barely develop games.

      • The Clockwork Being

It’s a good thing they are thinking of acquiring new studios. Hopefully they don’t mean just Japanese studios. We need European and American studios more than anything. We already have Nintendo EAD 1-8 in Japan, Monolith Soft, Gamefreak, HAL Laboratory, Intelligent Systems and I could go on since there are much more but come on we only have Retro Studios on the other side of the ocean.

        • Simon Stevens

I want them to buy Wayforward, a company like that can make a lot of great games for Nintendo, given funding

          • HungryMetroid

            ^this 100%
matt bozon is already a Nintendo fan, I’m sure him and his team would love a crack at something like Metroid. plus shantae would be an awesome character for smash bros.

          • Simon Stevens

They could do a retro version of Metroid for old time fans…. after seeing mighty switch, I tremble in excitement over the prospect of what it would look like :D

          • The Clockwork Being

Yeah Wayforward is a good studio to start with. Next Level games too.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

True, but I think Wayforward prefers to remain independent. I’d rather they remain that way. They do fine on their own. Next Level Games is certainly a good option for Nintendo.

        • Frankie

I think they want to buy Next Level.

          • The Clockwork Being

Yeah with Next Level stating they want to be second party already it would be much more easier.

          • Frankie

Next Level is second party but buying them would be a challenge, unless they want to be bought.

          • The Clockwork Being

Yeah but just them saying that they are only making Nintendo games from now on means that they are willing to be part of Nintendo so I think it will be easier to get them.

          • Frankie

The people that started Next Level Games worked at EA and left to make BlackBox, then that was bought by EA and they left to make Next Level Games to stay independent. I think they like being independent and right now are just focused on Nintendo, but I would love for them to become first party.

        • Alan Michael Hensley

Capcom is pretty low on funds, Nintendo should buy them

          • The Clockwork Being

They should let Capcom fall lower before buying them. Just a way to save money.

          • Ice Climbers

Luckily for Nintendo, there’s not much competition in who would buy Capcom. Sony can’t afford it, and I doubt Sega is interested right now after the Atlus buyout. The only company I could see being remotely interested in buying Capcom besides Nintendo is… Microsoft (shudders at the thought of that).

      • matthew garcia

Wii u technology is so behind. How can they have trouble with hd games have only been doin it since 2005 lol

        • Frankie

Except the Wii was not HD. So Nintendo started in 2011 probably, possibly late 2010.

      • Albert Lucero Jr

Nintendo should have used some of those huge profits they were making from the Wii and the DS to buy a few more studios. That was a huge error on Iwata’s part and they are paying for it now because they don’t have enough resources to support both system since the Wii U is in HD and they are lacking third party support. This is why their OS idea for their future platforms would be huge to solving this problem but in the meantime they need to expand their teams and buy some studios for more games and extra manpower.

    • Simon Stevens

I’m with you on that one, love my 2ds but would of loved some Wii U action more so, it’s sad that they have to prioritize things in this way

      • The Clockwork Being

The 3DS/2DS family is kickking serious ass. Since launch the 2DS has sold over 2 million which surprised everyone since people said it would fail. It has the games and everything. But yet again the Wii U needs love.

        • Gabe Hoffman

It premature to say they are putting Wii U on the backburner simply because of how that Direct had a lot of 3DS content. Many of those 3DS games were eShop titles which probably are not very resource intensive to begin with. Nintendo also probably expected the majority of Wii U owners to also have a 3DS

          • Simon Stevens

I hope your right mate and I bank most Wii U owners to have a 3DS too, me and my son have one and love them, but we prefer the Wii U :)

          • The Clockwork Being

Well they better do something for Wii U quick because everyone was expecting things that would equal the January Direct of last year. And from Feb to the end of May you only get to choose from what? 2 games? That really is disappointing.

          • Magnus Eriksson

            Lol, someone downvoted that :D

          • The Clockwork Being

It’s only natural Magnus people will sometimes dislike the truth eh?

          • Magnus Eriksson

            tell me about it :D

          • Sydney Ultrasyd

What i see is that you can now show some criticism toward Nintendo (i don’t say bashing or trolling, but critics from fans and users) without being stupidely being voted down all the way. Which shows that people are very unhappy. Who can be really happy with that situation ? I won’t sell my wii u because… One day it will be retro and i love retro haha. And i like the games i have so far, playing with my son is fun. The day when it will be retro might simply be the day when the ps4 launches in japan by the way

          • Magnus Eriksson

“It premature to say they are putting Wii U on the backburner simply because of how that Direct had a lot of 3DS content. ”

            16 months.

          • The Clockwork Being

It really is time for people to open their eyes a little.

          • Simon Stevens

Iwata is taking us for a bunch of chumps :(

          • The Clockwork Being

So true. I really trust Iwata and he seems to be betraying my trust. I mean he says he is conscious of the situation but it seems he isn’t doing anything to fix it :(

          • Simon Stevens

Seems he’s gimping us to me saying price can’t go lower, why not?, underpowered hardware, no blu ray or any sign of media functionality, no harddrive (shitty flash memory), gamepad is junk compare to most tablet technology which retail cheap, really think he’s ripping us off, just like he did with the Wii (overclocked gamecube)

          • Magnus Eriksson

I think they make money out of it regardless of who many buys it basically. Its a very cheap made product, but expensive reltively to what you get.

          • Simon Stevens

It’s a scam, look at the difference between premium and basic, colour and unlocked flash storage, nothing else yet they felt in the UK that a £80 difference between them was all fine and dandy, nothing wrong with that what so ever no wonder it didn’t sell, are they that fucking stupid to think it would?, the sooner Iwata goes and we see somebody up to date at the cash register, the better, Iwata out!

          • Magnus Eriksson

Lol, you sound like me :D

          • Simon Stevens

To be honest, the way I see the Wii U right now, is like a shitty girlfriend, months go by in the honeymoon period, there’s a few bumps here and there, you ignore it, slap on a positive attitude, brush it off, the works, then you stop and realise, she was a piece of shit all along, and then you get super pissed because you’ve let yourself see the light, and now…. I am truly in the one last chance saloon with it, if nothing happens soon, it’ll be some other poor dudes problem for picking her up at gamestop.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Even a tablet under $100 functions more better overall than the Wii U Gamepad. They basically thought that they could lure in casuals again with it and it backfired. Most of them prefer playing on their smartphones and tablets now. Might be a good idea to call it quits after this batch of games this year and just focus on the 3DS. After the 8th gen is over, they should correct their mistakes and make better hardware. Gimmicks aren’t going to help each time. Nintendo’s risky products hurt their rep to third parties.

          • Simon Stevens

My kindle fire was 99 squid :) brilliant buy, has a HD resolution screen, all the top notch bells and whistles processor wise, and I’m supposed to believe the gamepad which is essentially a screen on a game controller, is supposed to be as expensive or nearly as expensive? yeah right, I would accept that scenario under one condition, Iwata walks with it and a new revolution is under way at Nintendo HQ, I love Nintendo, not Iwata, not Reggie, Nintendo, the very least they could do is make the gamepad make sense like have a Facebook app, have useful tablet esque apps, have a Facebook free to play game center for the casuals, make a 3DS adapter because that system at the very least has GAMES, and plenty of them incoming, anybody on the street has these ideas yet Iwata, completely clueless, if this was a football club he’d have been sacked a long long time a go, it’s like overlooking the young talented boys in favour of the old farts over 30.

          • The Clockwork Being

Well I want is that Iwata isn’t the one conducting the build up of the next console. Someone young should be doing it. They should make Masahiro Sakurai. He seems to be able to bring something that is old and make it new and appealing to everyone. Look at Kid Icarus. That franchise was irrelevant to the video game world. 25 years without a game. Sakurai comes in makes Pit a character in Smash Bros to create some familiarity and then comes in with a new game. And obviously Kid Icarus Uprising sells well.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

It sold just over a million. Not bad for a franchise that hasn’t seen the light of day in 20 years.

          • The Clockwork Being

Exactly! And now what? Are we going to be left in the dark with only pictures of Super Smash 4 to hype us up until the next Nintendo Direct or what. Some sort of info has to come out. And what was he thinking becoming CEO of Nintendo of America. He should have brought in a guy that knows the US to do the Job right!

          • Simon Stevens

The fact that we have to cling onto these games that were announced a long time a go is proof enough for me that they have absolutely nothing, they even pushed back Donkey Kong just to have something to give us next year, I don’t buy the polish excuses, what else could they have given us in this time frame had DK been on time?, he should have brought somebody in America yeah, he needed a young feller who could talk over the likes of Bethesda and EA etc

          • The Clockwork Being

Yeah exactly. Looking at Reggie, his position is pointless or what? He is president but all he does is go around and throw around all these optimistic words. Nintendo promised lots of things but failed to deliver.

About DK you are right. That game was supposed to come out in November. At first we all thought they pushed it back since it would compete with Super Mario 3D World but that isn’t the case. They pushed it back in order to have something to start the year. But I’m not sure if they are doing these mistakes on purpose but DK came out in Japan 2 days ago. What else comes out this month? Oh yeah the PS4, everyone will save their money for the PS4 and probably DK won’t sell as many consoles as possible.

          • Simon Stevens

Reggie is the sales guy, nothing else, all he does is try and sell the console, watching an interview with him is like watching midnight QVC in the UK (television sales channel), he reminds me of one I saw in the U.S when I was visiting a few years back, he really knew how to sell products and build up a false sense of consumer trust, think his name was John Goodman?, if that’s his name, that’s who he reminds me of, the PS4 will absolutely murder everything in it’s path when it gets going in Japan, beautiful in a way, like that anime future diary, that bitch was crazy…. but in a fun way

          • The Clockwork Being

Love that analogy about Future Diary. Agree 100%

          • Simon Stevens

It’s a great anime :) very touching, as well as disturbing lol, there’s another point, I heard PS4 has a boat load of apps, Funimation video streaming included, yet Wii U…. nothing outside of the big 3, they need to get some good feels about the system going round, and fast, because I can’t even describe the difference between the Wii U reveal and the PS4 reveal, I’ll just use pictures Instead, PS4 at the top, Wii U at the bottom and lastly, Iwata fired :)

          • sd

I dont understand what they are doing. I kept waiting to see what their genius plan was. Now it just seems they are screwed. maybe he hit his head. Or maybe he is just that out of touch with reality.

          • Magnus Eriksson

They lied. Iwata and Reggie are liars. They should be fired.

          • sd

Im definitely thinking this. Like I have said a few times, where are my day one features. I actually think this would be grounds for a full refund as they mis-sold the product. Even if it is simple things like no TVii outside of the US. The fact is these features were well advertised prior to launch and they still dont exist in many parts of the world.

Also what happened to the super fast second update?

          • Magnus Eriksson

I think they have underperformed on every level. Not one single feature is as good as, or better than expectated. Its a bad product, and its unsupported.

          • Simon Stevens

You said that nicer than I would have, it’s the fucking dump that shitty transformers launch game took

          • Magnus Eriksson

            loooooool :D

          • sd

I actually contacted Nintendo Australia last year and along with providing free advertising tips asked them if they actually had any plans to advertise the console. Their response was “thanks for the information, we have no immediate plans to increase our advertising, but your suggestions will be passed on to the relevant department”

WTF. Its not selling, people didnt even know what it was, advertise it.

          • Sydney Ultrasyd

TVii was one of the main argument i used to get my wife to buy a WiiU :/ Now she says i’m a liar. I told her “see, Magnus says Iwata and Reggie are the liars, not me”. She replys “who tf are Magnus and Regata and Weggie”

          • sd

She replys “who tf are Magnus and Regata and Weggie” LMAO, thanks for that. :-)

Its the principle for me. i read about these great plans and features when buying the Wii U. The icon sits on the screen unusable. Its pretty disgusting.

          • Simon Stevens

They did, I’m so angry at them right now, they are absolutely pathetic

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Yep. Far as I remembered, they promised better third party support. There’s barely been any since the console’s launch.

          • Simon Stevens

Even that was old third party….

          • Daniel Gonzalez

True. Though a lot of newer third party still didn’t do the job. Even exclusives that Nintendo published themselves.

          • Simon Stevens

most third party even dating back to the Wii and Gamecube didn’t set the world alight, it’s not surprising, Xenoblade Chronicles, The last story for Wii, good games, sales wouldn’t suggest it though, Tales of Symphonia, Viewtiful Joe, even Resident evi 4, all great games, none of them sold well, can’t say I hold much hope out for the future of third party on Wii U, I think that’s because most average users are Nintendo fans and nobody else so there not buying anything else, to me, it’s Nintendo’s fault for making a system that isn’t exactly third party friendly, plus it’s just pretty lazy business practice,3ds really?, looks and plays like a ds but with 3d, the Wii U…. just a Wii with HD graphics and a silly tablet, negative I know but it’s just how I and probably most others see it, I enjoy the games on both to no end but it’s still a pretty shoddy lot to bring into a next generation knife fight

          • sd

I have had a few people comment in defense of Nintendo based on my opinions on this. To defend nintendo they show me a list of games being released (without release dates in Q1-3). Q1 is almost over and no release dates? Also the list is basically eshop and mostly virtual console games. I certainly dont give a stuff about virtual console games on my Wii U. Thats no reason to own a wii U.

Maybe thats where Nintendo are going wrong, why focus on Virtual console games when they cant get their new ones complete.

          • Donaald

Nintendo isn’t focusing in VC Games, it’s 2014 already and still no N64 games.

          • sd

:-) maybe thats the problem, they are only up to nes and snes days. A bit behind.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Virtual Console is emulated. They could have released all games within the first week if the wanted. Hobby programmers have done this for years. Its policies on VC is purely made out of greed. Trickle one game per week to make the most possible money.

          • sd

The prices are ludicrous. I for one refuse to buy any game on the VC at the prices set. Plus because they make them useable on the gamepad, current owners have to pay an upgrade fee.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

They basically created the VC service to battle piracy as well. Yeah, let’s start by over pricing games that aren’t worth $5 bucks a pop. NES games to me should come in packs instead. Like 2 or 3 for $5 would at least be more reasonable. Also, why the hell are they releasing GBA games on VC when those fit more on 3DS? Iwata really baffles me.

          • Sydney Ultrasyd

We can’t really say they even focus on VC. The VC is poor. Only Nintendo games and very few. I don’t really care about VC because one can easilly realise most games can be bought for the real retro machines for less bucks (i don’t even talk about emulation), but it is very interesting for people who don’t own the old consoles. But the offer is so poor

          • Simon Stevens

Screwed from the beginning when they announced the specs, in this day and age…. 8gb and 32gb memory?, really?, even newer models of the ipod know that’s just not enough for what you need it for, calling it Wii U…. that hardware, which they must of known isn’t anywhere near the level it needs to be for multi platform games, he just makes me so mad lolololololol

          • Daniel Gonzalez

They might as well call it the Wii Us since it’s basically just Nintendo games only and barely any third parties.

          • Simon Stevens

I just didn’t understand the name and the familiarity of the console, of course it’s going to confuse people, especially the oap install base the Wii had

          • Sydney Ultrasyd

The genius plan is the blue ocean with health stuff and non wearable technology XD

          • Magnus Eriksson

yup, but smoking crack isnt healthy

          • sd

Maybe testing the new tech he is able to live in a virtual world and he has forgotten which is the real world.

          • sd

Yeah responding to my opinion by showing me a list of upcoming Virtual console and eshop games doesnt persuade me. Especially when these just have Q1, Q2 ETA without actual release dates.

          • Ice Climbers

Not only that, but Nintendo Direct is supposed to be a way of getting news directly to their fanbase instead of relying on the untrustworthy media.

They haven’t sold the Wii U yet to all of their loyal fanbase. The Directs need to sell the Wii U to the 3DS’ user base. By showing 3DS stuff in the Directs they please 3DS owners and can attract them to the Wii U. Problem is finding the balance.

        • matthew garcia

Its good the handheld is kickin ass but I would rather have the wii u kickin asa

          • The Clockwork Being

            Exactly!

    • Gabe Hoffman

Perhaps he was referring to indie titles as well when he said a steady stream

      • The Clockwork Being

Ah really? Indies you say? I don’t think so he meant quality games like the ones done by them or anything big.

        • Daniel Gonzalez

That and indie games aren’t system sellers at all. Most are also on other platforms as well. So it doesn’t make them that special to the Wii U.

          • The Clockwork Being

Unless Nintendo honestly think Indie would sell their system, Indies are pretty irrelevant in terms of what the console needs right now.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Pretty much. Most indie gamers are on PC, so to be honest, they’re gonna sell better on that platform than console. Nintendo needs more AAA titles. Third party would certainly help, but it may be too late for Nintendo to convince third party developers that their console is worth a risk.

          • The Clockwork Being

EA and all other terrible third parties aside, third parties really have no reason to go on Wii U. The best example I have is the Wonderful 101. A game funded by Nintendo made by the Third party which sells really bad. Assassin’s Creed IV which also didn’t sell that much on Wii U.

Nintendo have to make them trust them again but Nintendo Direct like this one, delays, lack of focus on their console and much more factors only makes the Wii U unappealing to 3rd Party devs.

        • Ice Climbers

Perhaps he meant Wii U and 3DS combined. In fact, that’s exactly what he meant. His wording has broad connotations. He worded it the way he did so that he wasn’t technically lying when the Wii U inevitably has a drought. Wii U’s 2014 release schedule is somewhat like 3DS’ 2012 release schedule: still several droughts. 2015 is when there will be a steady stream for Wii U specifically.

    • matthew garcia

Why dont u just buy another console in the meantime

      • matthew garcia

Get a ps3 and get the last of us or many of the other great 1st party games it has. Will hold u over til next wii u game

        • Elias Ruelas

I was thinking of doing so, however I like having money in the bank and I don’t think buying an older system (but still a great system) for one game is really worth it to me. To others maybe, but not for me.

        • Magnus Eriksson

Even better. Sell Wii U and buy PS4.

          • Mithiragi

            Here’s a more rational decision.

      • The Clockwork Being

That isn’t the issue right now. It isn’t about me but the whole Wii U fanbase.

    • Elias Ruelas

There is a constant stream of games, but they aren’t all Nintendo branded games. Also, E3 not far off from MK8. So I’m sure we’ll see more soon.

      • Sultan 7

true you have to account for indies and shop games such as new remix and dr luigi

      • John Andalora

        Examples, if I may ask?

      • GregoryTheRainMaker

Name them. *sits in a bean bag chair*

        • NyallJodhan

Child of Light is coming April 30.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

It’s on other platforms. Lol. It won’t bring in much sales.

          • NyallJodhan

The point isn’t how much sales it would bring in, just the release schedule on the Wii U. ;)

          • Daniel Gonzalez

In Wii U’s case, sales matter in order to get third party support. Indies do little to help in that matter. ;)

      • sd

There are many games in development but no release dates. The only 2 games being released this year (so far) by Nintendo are in the first 5 months. Two games in five months are not enough. That would imply the other great games are all coming out towards the end of the year, again not good enough. Plus regarding other games, Nintendo games sell Nintendo consoles. Nothing else. If you only want watchdogs or games like this then the Wii u is not the platform of choice.

      • The Clockwork Being

As John stated below give me some examples.

        • Albert Lucero Jr

Isn’t another Lego Game and the Spiderman game also releasing in April?

          • Daniel Gonzalez

            That’s not saying much.

          • Albert Lucero Jr

No it’s not, but it still means there are retail games being released on the Wii U in between DKTF and Mario Kart,

      • Elias Ruelas

(I’m aware I replied to myself, but I don’t care) Whoa! So much hate. =P Anyway, everyone here seems to be able to read and write, so I suggest you all apply these skills by inputting the desired criteria in a search engine and read. So, I will leave this up to you. However, if you look at what’s available in the market, you will see that’s there’s more games out now compared to the Wii U game parched 2013. The thing is, you would likely not purchase any of these games. These are mostly bland children oriented 3rd party or eShop titles. Again, there is more games being released with more constant frequency compared to 2013, however most of the population here (wiiudaily) wouldn’t give them a try because these games are genuinely not for their demographic. Thus, most people here will argue that “Reggie lied.” Whatever though, I will be too busy with DKC for the comings weeks. Plus, I just got some cheaply priced Wii U games on Amazon, so that will hold me over for awhile. Which leaves me with the following suggestions for you (in addition to the above), buy desired games on Wii U. For example, Watch Dogs, I hate the delay, but I will still purchase it and give constructive feedback to the people making the decisions at Ubisoft through their developer forums and social media outlets. Ultimately, Wii U owners need to prove that they care about the Wii U instead of just going online and complaining about it like the journalist of last year and the likes of that lunatic Michael Pacter (or however you spell that last name of stench). About that, I believe that “respected” journalist have really hurt the Wii U’s reputation… in addition to Nintendo’s own missteps. Published information is open for everyone to see and people (mostly parents) who innocently don’t know any better fall victims to these false stigmas created by entitled individuals online. Well, I could continue on forever here, but “time is money” to buy more Wii U games this year. =)

    • ZeldaFan83

DKCTF, MK8, Hyrule Warriors, X, Bayonetta 2, Super Smash Bros., Watch Dogs, Sonic Boom, NES Remix 2, GBA VC games, Indie games and others I’m sure I’m missing and I doubt many of these games would release in the same month with the exception of GBA games so from month to month that’s an okay stream of games plus at E3 we’ll probably hear about more games coming out this year. I will admit that there isn’t much from now until May but after that it should pick up fairly well.

      • sd

But the point is that it is just more delays. Nintendo cant afford another 3 month game drought from Feb – May. The Wii U sales will flop again during this time and if that happens then many people will be put off buying the system. No one wants to buy a system that isnt selling as it means it will be a flop. There are enough people thinking it is a flop as it is, if sales drop again then I see the end.

This is from a fan who loves the Wii U. But you cant keep having 3 month delays. They need a great game every month. I dont think 12 games a year is too much to ask for.

      • The Clockwork Being

I see what you mean how many of those core games have release dates? How many will cover the months between DK Tropical Freeze and Mario Kart 8?

      • http://www.mpt-online.eu/ Sylux

well watchdogs is delayed on WiiU over other console with exception of dkctf and mk8 it truly looks pretty grim, even between the two mentiond there is a 3 Month gap, bayo coming to japan in summer? it’s unlikely it’ll hit the west before oktober november, probably X get’s pushed to either holiday season or 2015.

These decisions hurt a struggling system really bad. I love my recently aquired WiiU, but things honestly don’t look good. I’m sorry to say, but please understand, take of those pink glasses…

      • John Andalora

Here’s the issue, though: that’s not month to month.
Only things with dates right now are DKC and MK8 coming out in Feb and May. The rest is unknown and uncertain. Wii U Watch Dogs is coming out later than other consoles, SSBU and Bayonetta 2 are expected sometime past summer, Sonic Boom just got introduced so expect that it’s gonna take a while (at least a year and a half. Remember Sonic Lost world took 2 1/2 YEARS to make mediocrity). Hyrule Warriors is literally Dynasty Warriors with different skins, and are NES Remix and GBA VC games really gonna hold your attention (if they come out sometime before or after any of those other games)?

    • Fred

Get NES Remix 2 in April

      • The Clockwork Being

Oh yeah ofcourse the long awaited sequel to NES Remix 1(sarcasm).

Yeah although thats a good idea they aren’t really new game. Just old ones that I’m sure most of us played but a small twist. I’m talking games here!! New ones!!

        • Fred

The first one was fun that’s all I care. Have you tried Castle Storm I’ve had a lot of fun with that game too.

      • Sydney Ultrasyd

I didn’t buy the WiiU for a little bunch of pixels as nes remix. I don’t say the game is bad, but i’d like nintendo to release it on a nes cartridge, for real : )

        • Fred

          That would be really cool.

    • 504HotBoy

Don’t worry there are more 1st party and 3rd party titles that haven’t been announced yet. It’s been obvious since the VGX awards that they are waiting till E3 2014 to reveal more games as it has been stated before. I myself am getting tired of them keep showing Donkey Kong:Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8 & Super Smash Bros., (even though I buying all 3 games, got DK already on pre-order). I also wish they would show something new, to let people know hey we have games coming to the Wii U, besides what we’ve shown so far. Same with Sony & Microsoft, there are games that will be at E3 for those platforms as well, that we’re unaware of yet. Im sure Nintendo is going to finally show the next Legend Of Zelda, Miyamoto’s new IP, More on Yarn Yoshi, Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, X (with possible final name and release date), Bayonetta 2 (possible final release date), Super Smash Bros. (possible final release date), Sonic Boom, Hyrule Warriors and that’s just the games we know about. It’s possible Retro will announce their next game or maybe show an early build of something, possible game from Mistwalker , Im sure Capcom & Sega also have more Wii U games coming. There may be a few surprises. Im pretty sure there are games that’s been in development for Wii U for the last past 2 to 3 years from developers out there, that haven’t been shown/announced yet. Even though I’m speculating on things, these are all strong possibilities. We just have to be a little bit more patient and see what they have in store for this year’s E3. Im interested in seeing what both Nintendo & Sony have in store, as I own a Wii U & PS4. But I’m more interested in Nintendo, cause I have a feeling they’re going to go all out with the game announcements this E3.

      • The Clockwork Being

Of course I am waiting for E3 but right now the months leading to it seem really bare. No game is confirmed for Feb to June except DK:TP and Mario Kart 8.

        • Morphballs

Let me ask you what’s coming out on PS4 and XboxOne from Feb to June?

          • 504HotBoy

There in the same boat the Wii U is in. There aren’t that many AAA titles hitting any of those platforms either. You have Thief, Infamous, MGSV, Titan Fall, but other than it’s pretty empty. I had my PS4 since launch and the only game I have for it is Killzone :Shadow Fall. Would have bought Assassin’s Creed 4, but already got it for Wii U. Would have bought Tomb Raider, but own it on 360 and see no reason of buying the same game again for slight graphic upgrade. So I just waited for more titles. Thief will be out on the 25th.

          • The Clockwork Being

            Ok so we have

            PS4

            Child of Light
            Infamous:Second Son
            EA Sports UFC
            Dying Light
Dynasty Warriors 8:Xtreme Legends Complete Edition
            Joysound Dive 2
Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes
            MLB14: The Show
            Nikpp;i no Puzzle 4: Soduku
Nobunaga no Yabo Onlune: Tenla Mugen no Sho
            Nobunaga no Yabo: Sozo
            Octodad: Dadliest Catch
            Outlast
            Rayman Legends
            Ryu ga Gotoku Ishin!(Yakuza 5)
            Thief
            Totterno E Mahjong Plus

All this between Now and June.

          • Gabe Hoffman

The majority of those games are on 360 and PS3 though

        • 504HotBoy

Trust me I know how you feel. I feel the same way. I wish there were more AAA titles (there are some filler titles being released on Wii U between now and June) coming more consistently month after month for Wii U. My best advice is if you own multiple consoles, buy games you like that’s coming out soon for those consoles to hold you over. It’s what I did, I preordered 6 games. One of which I got this past Tuesday. Final Fantasy XIII-3, Castlevania: Lords Of Shadows 2, Donkey Kong : Tropical Freeze, Thief, Infamous: Second Soon, & Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. Which should all hold me over for the coming months, until some more major announcements/releases.

    • jjbredesen

I agree 100% so what they should release is this!

LOL! This will sell systems for sure!

    • McBlink

Why don’t you go back into the Wii catalog (assuming you owned a Wii, if not better) and see if there is anything you missed/overlooked. The games are mostly cheap now and a lot of hidden gems. This is what I do when theres a huge drought. Just because theres a new console out, doesn’t mean the previous generation needs to be ignored.

      • The Clockwork Being

Own a Wii and yes I am currently playing some of the games I missed like the Metroid trilogy and Xenoblade Chronicles among others. But some people didn’t buy a Wii U to play Wii games but Wii U games.

        MadWorld!!!!

      • sd

With that sort of mindset we might as well all sell our Wii U. After all the Wii already has donkey kong, mario, mario kart, xenoblade etc.

Part of the issue is that by not getting the games out the console will stop selling again. Then the few third party developers in the game will pull the plug by the end of the year, leaving only Nintendo and its few games that are being released every 3-4 months. Thus the Wii U will fail. Its a shame as its a great console and if I only wanted to buy 1 game every 3 months it would be amazing.

        • McBlink

Games aren’t made overnight. Nintendo clearly didn’t plan this from the beginning. “Unprecedented Partnership” is what Nintendo though they had with EA and 3rd parties. That started to fall a part with the delay of Rayman Legends 1 year ago. I’m not saying Nintendo isn’t to blame but since something like this has never happened so fast, there is only so much you can do to pick up the slack. Backwards compatibility is there for a reason. X1 & PS4 owners have a game drought and they can’t play any physical games from the previous gen.

          • sd

Implementing day 1 features is something that should be done at the very least in the first 6 months, yet they havnt done this. Also most of the games that are being delayed now were originally spring 2013 games and every 3 months nintendo announces a further 3 month delay. Thats completely Nintendos fault. Sure delays happen, but continual delays on the same product is shockingly bad management. Especially when it pretty much affects almost every game they announced when the console released.

Just curious when you bought your console. I had mine on day one and I am still waiting for the games that were announced at launch. Also the fact is this will affect future sales of teh console. the only chance the console has of succeeding is to get these games out now.

Oh and I have an X-1. There are no games currently being pushed back. Titanfall is on schedule. I knew the situation when the console was released. The release schedules that stood at launch are still the same today. Plus delays in the first 6-12 months are acceptable. Nintendo’s delays are going to end up being 18-24 months, is that acceptable to you.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Why the hell are you defending Nintendo? Do they pay you?

          • Simon Stevens

I know right, Nintendo the naive caused there own problems, there is no defence

          • frank gore

            are you paid to troll

          • thedeciderU

            this guy be truthtelling ^^^

          • Daniel Gonzalez

For the time being yeah. They are working on that with Gakai through cloud gaming.

    • sd

I completely agree. I love my Wii U and the games are great. Last year I was certain that with all the great games being released in the first half of this year the Wii U would take off. I also thought it was the steady release of games that would help the Wii U compete and stay relevant against the PS4 and X-1. But now the only games announced with release dates are end of Feb for Donkey kong and then end of May for Mario Kart. Then Summer for Bayonetta.

Seriously if there is a 3 month delay on games the Wii U will be screwed. come on Nintendo, throw all your resources into getting the game out. Spend money and get more staff if need be. Without the software there are no hardware sales.

      • The Clockwork Being

Yep Feb to June seems really bare in terms of content. Still no words from the unannounced games that Iwata talked about except Hyrule Warriors which is a game in the works and is aimed to release in 2014. Doesn’t look too good right now.

        • sd

To be honest Nintendo are really losing my trust. I understand delays, but nothing they say is happening. Not to mention my Wii U still doesnt have features announced when the console was released, like TVii. It doesnt exist in Australia. I might not even like this feature, but its the fact that it was announced as coming out at launch is pretty disgusting. That will mean the way they are going if this console fails many people like myself, who are day one adopters will refuse to buy the next Nintendo console. This will cause problems for them.

I saw excitement from many at the release date of mario Kart, for me I was just annoyed, I thought it was a march release. Maybe they will surprise people, but I dont see them announcing a release for another game to come out in march. Its just poor and I for one am a very unhappy Nintendo fan. As are many Nintendo fans. At least i can buy Titanfall in march and fall back on my X-1 for games.

          • The Clockwork Being

Yep and there is the importance of owning another console. When Nintendo barely delivered last year and Iwata came along with Reggie making these promises I was thinking they were realizing their mistakes but it seems like I was wrong.

          • sd

Yeah I seriously screwed up last year. I sold my PS3 and Xbox 360 in anticipation of buying either the X-1 or PS4. My thinking was that Nintendo had shown me all of these great games being released in the first half of 2013 and I would be busy too playing those to care. But the games still havn’t been released.
I dont mind delays, but to announce delays pretty much every time a game is mentioned and for those delays to be 12-18 months or more is very poor. At this rate I might as well sell my Wii U and buy a 3ds to play nintendo games.

          • Nintendo Dragon

I just tink they need new management.

          • sd

That would help, I really want the Wii U to succeed, which is why I am getting so frustrated.

        • Ice Climbers

I’d rather have the situation we have now rather than both the Wii U and the 3DS failing. Reason for all these delays is Nintendo royally screwing up with the 3DS launch. The 3DS’ poor sales period caused Nintendo to put all their resources towards 3DS development. Iwata chose to save the 3DS at the time (2011) instead of focusing on Wii U games, which created a snowball effect leading to where we are now.

If Iwata chose the Wii U then, BOTH systems would be failing right now, and there’s no denying it. Plus the handheld market would be gone, a market that is FAR more valuable to Nintendo.

    • WiiUPS4

I love nintendo but it’s time for new leadership..Iwata time for a change!
What you are doing is not working

      • The Clockwork Being

When Iwata became CEO of both Nintendo as a whole and Nintendo of America I knew there wouldn’t be much change. I have been defending Iwata for so long talking about how he made the Wii and DS a success and how he made 3DS turn around. But right now it seems like he fails to do anything right with the Wii U.

      • Daniel Gonzalez

Yep, agreed. Perhaps someone who will develop a proper relationship with third parties and let them in on their future console development. Nintendo being too secretive isn’t doing them much good.

        • thedeciderU

just heard they have a new controller add on for the wii.

      • McBlink

While I don’t wish for someone to lose their job, possibly a demotion. I know they are a Japanese developer but they need to pay attention to the western consumers a little more.

      • Simon Stevens

http://gph.is/XKpl27 Iwata – doing nothing right, GTFO

      • Ice Climbers

And get a leader that will axe the 3DS so that the Wii U has all the focus? Yeah, I’d rather have Iwata. You all know that is exactly what a new CEO would do. There’s nothing Iwata can do for the Wii U.

        • WiiUPS4

That’s bull but from what i see..is the Wii U flopped because they didn’t give it the attention it needed .Plain and simple.
So yes Iwata is to blame

          • Ice Climbers

The 3DS needed more attention at the time (2011). The fate of the handheld market was resting on Nintendo’s shoulders at the time. Nintendo saving the 3DS was a conscious choice they had to make, as they knew that the Wii U would have to be sacrificed in the process.

      • metalpants

Heck no! Iwata’s the reason Nintendo’s failure resonates WAY more than before… meaning that if it wasn’t for the sudden rise to success with Wii and DS (both under Iwata’s watch) Nintendo wouldn’t be under so much pressure due to being less known.

And I don’t get what’s the deal with blaming everything on Iwata. They have a board/council where they collectively come to an agreement on things. He’s not the only one in charge of every single decision you know… it’s stupid to assume Iwata’s at fault for everything.

I think this is a good time for Nintendo. Failure = what not to do to achieve success. Growing pains are always necessary. They’re extremely talented over at the big N so when pushed into a corner, we get rare gems like SM3DW and whatnot. Nobody else in the gaming industry programs games so tightly and optimizes to the last detail like Nintendo. So I think we should just let things take their course and stop passing the blame on someone who aided in the overall fame and renown Nintendo has today.

        • WiiUPS4

I disagree and he is to blame..He didn’t give the Wii U the attention it needed and it failed and i love the Wii U but without games..and not putting more spot light on it..This is what happened..End of story!

          • metalpants

That’s just ignorant. Like I said, he’s not the only one that makes decisions over at NCL. Everything else you said I agree with, but every decision taken over at Nintendo is a COLLECTIVE effort of the board of directors http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo#Board_of_directors. The decisions he makes are heavily influenced by everyone else at Nintendo with high rank positions.

    • Forbsz

agreed they keep lying they better have a shit ton of surprise games this year,,,,

      • The Clockwork Being

IF they don’t deliver anything great between now to June and during E3 then I will be extremely dissapointed.

    • Daniel Gonzalez

If you see nothing, then maybe you shouldn’t be trusting the word of people who don’t deliver. Just a thought.

    • DragonSilths

MK8 will regain the Wii U’s lead. PS4 has nothing till Infamous really. And even that is not a system seller.

      • The Clockwork Being

But hey let’s see what PS4 has until June. Let not forget that it is region free

        Ok so we have

        PS4

        Child of Light
        Infamous:Second Son
        EA Sports UFC
        Dying Light
Dynasty Warriors 8:Xtreme Legends Complete Edition
        Joysound Dive 2
Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes
        MLB14: The Show
        Nikppi no Puzzle 4: Soduku
Nobunaga no Yabo Onlune: Tenla Mugen no Sho
        Nobunaga no Yabo: Sozo
        Octodad: Dadliest Catch
        Outlast
        Rayman Legends
        Ryu ga Gotoku Ishin!(Yakuza 5)
        Thief
        Totterno E Mahjong Plus

All this between Now and June. Infamous might not be a system seller for you but lots of people are buying a PS4 when it comes out. Boy look all the other games that are system sellers in Japan and US. Dynasty Warriors are well received, Nobunaga is a game that the Japanese like, Yakuza 5 is also liked over there. Oh and Metal Gear Solid 5. Some people say they won’t buy it due to the price but still it will sell like hot cakes.

So yeah PS4 is looking pretty good right now.

        • DragonSilths

Okay lets clear a few things up here. EA Sports UFC? EA is shit and doesn’t count as a game, no matter what it is, Starwars BattleFront or even the Mirrors Edge reboot DONT COUNT. Dynasty Warriors has died off, its always fun for an hour then gets repetitive and dies off and you want to kill yourself. MLB14….GTFO with your sports shit. Octodad….lololololololololololol that’s almost as bad as Flappy Bird. Rayman Legends is on Wii U and will always be the best version. The rest I never heard of and looked them up and not a single one of them are my cup of tea, excluding Infamous.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Lol, you just slammed the Wii U more than anything else. According to your logic Wii U was released with three games, and basically got none the last 12 months.

          • DragonSilths

            I’ll slam the Wii U, I don’t really care, I don’t play favorites.

          • Simon Stevens

            looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool octodad loooooooooooooooooooool ha

          • The Clockwork Being

Now the flaw in what you say is that most of what you say is opinion but still that doesn’t change that the PS4 has more games in the same time span.

          • Sydney Ultrasyd

If you don’t count some games because they are shitty as you say, please don’t count birtual console or nes remix as games neithers. As a real Nintendo fan, i already own those games and consoles. I cannot understand how can people say “yeah, upcoming GBA games !!!”. This is not the reason why i bought a Wii U :’(

          • DragonSilths

I didn’t count the VC games or NES remix???

          • Sydney Ultrasyd

No right, you didn’t, but many people say here and there that in the weanwhile, before getting some games, there is VC and Nes Remix. I really don’t see that as games.
Anwyay, I’m only at 98% in Lego City Undercover, I still have to play Assassin’s Creed IV, finish Rayman, start Spinter Cell, see those eShop games I bought but didn’t even try, play Scribblenauts, seriously consider NFS instead of just driving without completing the game, play Windwaker HD, play the DLC of Mass Effect 3.
I shouldn’t complain about the lack of games, I already have too much that I didn’t play :D

          • DragonSilths

Nintendo is trying to use the VC and NES Remix 2 as filler till MK8. While its better then nothing, its not really good.

        • 504HotBoy

It also depends on what you’re interest in buying as well. Both the Xbox One & Wii U also have filler titles between now and June. But the question is what do I as a gamer want to play/purchase? I can’t speak for everybody else, but the only games that’s coming out between now and then that I have any interest in buying is 2 Wii U Games(Donkey Kong Country:Tropical Freeze & Mario Kart 8) & 3 PS4 games(Thief, Metal Gear Solid V:Ground Zeroes & Infamous:Second Son). All those games I already have on preorder, with the exception of Mario Kart 8. As I don’t preorder games with release dates over 60 days. But you can make the same argument for Wii U & Xbox One, they have titles, Indie games as well as retail games coming out between now and June. Question is do you want any of those games?

    • readypembroke

With next to all of them being multiplatform!!!

      • The Clockwork Being

What do you mean the PS4 games in the list?

        • readypembroke

          Yeah

          • The Clockwork Being

Well my friend take a great look here. Some of the sports games are multiplatform along with Rayman Legends, Thief, Ground Zeroes too but look at the other games. All the ones that are Japanese will be bought on PS4 or are exclusive to the console like Dynasty Warriors 8. Nobunaga will also be sold more on PS4. For Metal Gear, the fanbase is on Sony console.

The importance of this list is that PS4 will have more games and those games will drive the sells of the system.

          • Ice Climbers

None of those games are really gonna push PS4 systems other than Infamous. They’ll do as much for PS4 as Pikmin 3 did for Wii U. They might boost sales somewhat for Japan, but we have no idea how well the PS4 will perform over there after the initial week one rush from the diehards. The PS4 commercials over there also show people from other countries enjoying their PS4s, basically saying “Hah, look at all these people who got it before you did!”, which the Japanese won’t take too kindly to.

I honestly don’t see ANY of the next-gen systems doing super well other than the 3DS.

      • Magnus Eriksson

Almost no one of them are released on Wii U. Your point is invalid.

    • lonewolf

Rayman legends is already out for the wii u and child of liggt will also come and there is a transformers game which will be available for the wii u and the 3ds.

      • The Clockwork Being

Yep that’s true but really the Transformers game isn’t something that will move consoles or will be well received in my opinion

      • Magnus Eriksson

Wii U was launched with Darksiders 2, Batman, Mass Effect 3 etc… whats your point?

        • Simon Stevens

next gen starting with old gen, nothing more to see here folks

    • Gabe Hoffman

But how many of those will move systems really? When people are saying PS4 and X1 are a wasteland at the moment they are referring to potential system sellers mainly exclusives. Alot of those games are also on 360 and PS3. Also when you look at PS4′s Japanese launch lineup there isn’t really much that appeals to the Japanese audience. From what I see the Japanese don’t seem all that receptive to next gen consoles

    • Donaald

Why are all the fags so worried about sales?

      • Simon Stevens

Cause fags be smoking some bullshit lol

      • Daniel Gonzalez

Because a lot of people these days see sales as a deciding factor on what they will purchase. Wii U’s future is uncertain with the lack of reveals at the moment. A lot of games don’t have release dates yet, which makes people feel they will probably get pushed back. PS4 has already shown a lot in such a short time and those consumers are buying them since it shows far more promise than the Wii U. It’s been over a year, people eventually grow tired of the excuses, so they move on.

While sales don’t matter to everyone, they can tell you how much support that console will most likely have in the long term. For someone like me, I prefer a console that has both 1st and third party, so PS4 will be my primary console, while Wii U will only a few titles here and there to feed on. It’s a matter of opinion and choice. No need to call people names because they don’t share your outlook on the situation.

        • Simon Stevens

I think by fags, he probably means the fanboys who enjoy trolling these pages with doom and generally just love to feel like the superior force kicking dirt in our faces, in that sense, I share his view :) faggots lol

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Well if that’s what he meant, then I can agree to that.

      • John Andalora

If lack of sales is serious enough to where Nintendo executives took a 50% pay cut to reduce costs, how can you not be worried about sales?

        • Donaald

          I’m a consumer not a shareholder, if it sells I don’t see a dime.

          • John Andalora

Low sales affect you pretty easily by reducing the chance that other companies are gonna make games for the console, and makes current developers far more wary of working on it.
I mean, Watch Dogs being released later for the Wii U is not just Ubisoft doing nothing for no reason. It’s because they’re trying to focus on the group of people that they expect to buy their games: Sony and Microsoft console owners. They’re losing faith in this console, and now the Wii U version is gonna take even longer than it is now to get it out. Is that not a very clear issue currently affecting all Wii U owners?
The lack of sales of this console very strongly impacts how many games you’ll have from now until this consoles end. You wonder why Nintendo only had 5 AAA Wii U games in the last direct (DKCR, Bayonetta 2, MK8, Smash Bros, X) and that those 5 games are all either First Party or commissioned?
You better believe it impacts you.

          • Donaald

You DO realize I can buy more than one console, right?

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Course you can. However, it doesn’t change the fact that Nintendo isn’t living up to their promises. So I suppose you’d want another console to make up for their short comings.

          • Donaald

No, I would want another console because I’m a real gamer, I buy consoles for what they can offer.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

I’ll have all consoles before the 5 year cycle. Though, your meaning of a real gamer is flawed to me. You can still be a real gamer and have one console. So I have to disagree with that.

          • John Andalora

Not everyone can waste money on a $300 console, then buy another one for $400 or more just because the first one has no games…
            Also, what great advertising!
Wii U: “You can always buy another console if you don’t like our game selection!”

          • Donaald

Then some people should do research to see what console offers what they want, plus it’s not like you buy two consoles at the same time and BTW why are all the dumbasses saying that the Wii U has no games, numbers don’t lie:

          • John Andalora

When I got my Wii U, I did my research.
Didn’t think Rayman Legends would be delayed.
Assumed Watch Dogs would be released.
Thought ZombiU and NSMBU and NintendoLand would be amazing.
Saw Nintendo’s track record and loved their past consoles.

But even with the best research, one can still be wrong.

And even then, I didn’t have enough money to keep the Wii U and get a PS4. College students don’t make a lot of money, you see.

Also, you hate when I use vgchartz, but you use some random person on YouTube claiming the games on Wii U are better?

          • Donaald

Random? This data comes from metacritic, dumbass.

          • John Andalora

I may be a dumbass, but at least I’m not stupid enough to make the argument that “My console not selling well doesn’t affect me. Even though people will take less chances on it and make fewer games using the $300 console I bought, I could always buy another $400 console at some other point in my life!”

          • Donaald

You’re right, you’re the retard who bought the Wii U expecting third party support and can’t for the love of fuck research a little bit ;)

          • John Andalora

Says the shithead who thinks absolutely nothing is wrong with the fact that his favorite console is failing because he’s not investing millions into the company.

          • Donaald

Where did I say it’s my favorite console, stupid?

          • John Andalora

It’s pretty easy to tell you love it, fuckface.
You follow the correspondance of a Nintendo fanboy who can’t live unless everyone else loves it.
Calling others dumbasses over subjective statements, saying others “didn’t do their research” if they don’t like it, laughing at other games with sequels and repeats while lavishing in the repeats Nintendo makes, and not being able to see that there’s an issue right now in terms of sales and games.
At least others are willing to admit that there’s a reason for concern with the fact that there’s no releases from March to May.

          • Donaald

See, you’re retarded, please slap the bitch who brought you into this world. First, if I’m a fanboy then why do I bash Nintendo for not enabling eshop in every country? And what about when I bash for tying your purchases to your hardware in this day and age (that includes the 3DS). Also, when did I say that sales were ok? Once again proof that you’re a retard, I said I don’t give a fuck about sales (spot the difference, dumbfuck?). Please, elaborate on how I am a fanboy so I can keep laughing at you.

          • John Andalora

            Yeah, I’m done.
I’ve got better things to do now than fuck around with you, shitstain.

          • Donaald

Yet, you replied LMAO butthurt much?

          • Daniel Gonzalez

You also don’t see many games. Nintendo can only provide so much on their own.

          • Donaald

If I see Nintendo games that’s all I care, I don’t buy Nintendo systems for third party unless I see a “definitive version” on the system which sadly there’s only a bunch of them when it comes to third parties.

      • Magnus Eriksson

True! Fuck Nintendo. Its much better that they fail as soon as possible.

        • Donaald

Yeah, well. You better take a seat while you wait.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

With the Wii U, they basically failed to live up to their promise. Don’t see any third party.

          • Donaald

We’re talking about failing FINANCIALLY. .

          • Daniel Gonzalez

I see you didn’t deny that. Financially, I don’t think people care that much as it’s obvious they are fine there. Magus as always, enjoys being sarcastic about Nintendo. It should be obvious to you by now he enjoys riling up people on this site. ;P

    • Kidvizious

I love my Wii U. I do. But I’ve realized I need to get a Xbox One or PS4 because the promises of a “hardcore console” and “3rd party support” was a lie. I deeply respect Sony for being as prepared as they were for the PS4. They got everything right.

      Nintendo frankly did everything wrong.

And Xbox One is in the middle. Lol.

      • Robert Butters

I have my pc to fill that void and I can’t justify getting PS4 or xbone with worse graphics. Only got wiiu for the IPs and innovation

        • Kidvizious

Yeah, I can’t blow my money on an entirely new PC :/ Plus I like local multiplayer. Me and my bro and with PC either one of would be hogging the PC. So PS4 or Xbox One for me :p

          • darkgamer001

You do realize that quite a number of PC games support local multiplayer right?

          • Kidvizious

And how would the rest of my family participate in this gaming with me and my brother?…

          • darkgamer001

If you’re looking for more than 2 player co-op…Wii U is the best way to go. X1 and PS4 will focus on online, and the occasional split-screen (which is usually 2 player)….both of which you can do with a PC

      • jrob23

PS4 did not do everything right. They still don’t have a must own exclusive title and won’t until Infamous Second Son. Their launch is as pedestrian as the Wii U’s was, maybe worse. But I expect that once the avalanche of games come it will be continuous and substantial. I can’t see Xbone or Wii U even remotely close in sales. Seriously, they fixed the one glaring problem..the controller. They have everything working in their favor this gen. Now that Halo is no longer made by Bungie, I see zero reason to own a Xbone. Obviously the Wii U will deliver amazing 1st party from time to time but still will finish a distant 3rd.

        • Kidvizious

          Cool story bro.

          • jrob23

            thanks dickhead

    • starwars360

Hyrule Warriors release sometime later Spring this year for Wii U. Plus few multiformat titles as well ton of Wii U’s eShop games. 2nd half of this year will have ton of games for Wii U.
We all knew Q1 and Q2 2014 for Wii U’s releases:
      Mario Kart 8 – 30th May ’14
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze – 21st Feb
Hyrule Warriors – Late Spring 2014
      The Amazing Spider-Man 2 – Spring 2014
The LEGO Movie: Videogame – 14th Feb ’14
Ton of Wii U’s eShop games
GBA games coming to Wii U
      8)
Nintendo want take time with Wii U because of struggle sells so they want forcing for better markets for Wii U as Nintendo mention last month and they busy and try their best on it. Look at PS Vita and did exactly same by Sony.

  • Frankie

Did anyone expect it to come before Q3 or Q4? Those are the best times for sales, and Nintendo already has Mario Kart and Smash for the spring/summer. It fits best there.

    • Simon Stevens

This is why they need 3rd party support, they need to pay for some decent support

  • Sydney Ultrasyd

Summer OK… 2014 really isn’t that year full of Wii U games they announced.
Seriously, I hope it won’t be too long before we see this in Europe. This could be a system seller outside the classic Nintendo users, unlike DK and MK. I’m sure they have some other games to announce around E3.
I wished Nintendo skipped stuff like Nes Remix 2 to put ALL their staff on the important things.

  • Gabe Hoffman

We don’t really know when exactly it will release. Summer could be mean June, July, August any of those months really.

  • http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008SRISGU#reader_B008SRISGU Adam Howell

Nintendo’s really messed up with their supply of games. They probably calculated that they’d have much stronger third party support at this point.

Honestly, they should offer to publish some of those third party games, like Thief, Dark Souls 2 and Strider, on their system as other publishers wont risk it.

They owe their customers a steady supply of games and can afford to make it happen, it’s just they don’t think they’d get a return on their money either.

  • NintendoNoob

Japan was always nice. Maybe I’ll move there, get a Japanese Wii U and Bayonetta, then come back to the states

  • Mithiragi

Damn so DK Feb 21, MK8 May 30, Bayo2 sometime after summer? Damn. Reggie you lied about not having droughts for 2014.

    • WiiUPS4

Him and iwata both need to go and get new leaders

    • RyuNoHadouken

they need to release a AAA game every month for the rest of the year to gain some traction

      • Gabe Hoffman

If they released an AAA game every month then expect quality to take a hit

        • RyuNoHadouken

nope…doesnt have to all be first party…as long as they’ve had, they could have multiple studios working on multiple titles releasing steadily over the course of this year

      • Mithiragi

        no joke

    • Mithiragi

I guess some people just hate the truth lol

  • Elias Ruelas

This is America! That means America comes first! =P

  • GregoryTheRainMaker

    I learned something.

  • Nintendoro

Give Nintendo another 2 years and they’ll announce new system with similar specs as XO/PS4

    • 504HotBoy

I doubt that. We won’t see the next Nintendo system until 2017 or 2018 at the earliest. As they usually give their systems a 5 to 6 year lifespan before dropping a new console. Im pretty sure if they drop a console around that time it will take advantage of 4K resolution as that should be the norm by that time.

      • Nintendoro

On a regular case you’d be right saying that, but Wii U is Nintendo’s biggest failure of the decade so seeing it leaving market in next two years is very much realistic unless it’s fortune will turn around dramatically.

        • 504HotBoy

They’ll lose more money if they abandon the Wii U to early on. It’s best for them to stick with it. Regardless of how poorly it’s selling. Not to mention they will piss off millions of Wii U owners. If they only manage to sell 25 to 30 million Wii U systems by the time their successor comes out. Then so be it. It’s a bad idea for them to abandon the platform and I think they’re smart enough to know that. Hopefully with their next system they will listen to their fanbase and developers more, at least take everyones input into major consideration.

          • jrob23

Problem is they’ll be lucky to sell 10-12 million after 3 full Holiday seasons. What system seller will be coming out in 2015 or 2016 that will catapult it to 25-30 million? The only heavy hitters left will be Zelda U and Metroid. They will make Wii U owners happy but I doubt they move consoles. The ONLY way the Wii U sells that many is if they lower the price to $199 with a Mario Kart bundle. Even then, it’s just not resonating with consumers. At least with the 3DS we all knew the consumer liked the product as DS sales were stellar. I might get another Wii U is it drastically lowers the price, maybe this fall if Zelda U surprises by coming out this year. Ha ha, yeah right.

          • 504HotBoy

It’s way too early to analyze what the system sales are going to be for any of the 3 consoles. I see so many people on a daily basis from analyst, to journalist, bloggers, etc., thinking they’re psychic and predicting numbers that they have no way of knowing, this early in the consoles life. Yeah if we were 3 1/2 to 4 years in any of the consoles lives, it’s a lot easier to make a prediction. But less than 2 years, no way. Anything can happen(look how well the PS3 turned around), you can’t speak for all consumers, there are hundreds of millions of people out there with different taste and feelings towards things. You have to be more open minded. Anything is possible, Wii U sales can all of a sudden just skyrocket up, without system sellers, just people who don’t own any of the 8th gen systems and want a new system for whatever reason. I know for a fact, cause there are people who know nothing about video games, like a co worker of mine and he went out and purchased a Wii U, just cause his daughters wanted one. They don’t even care or know what games available or how high the specs are, just people buying a video game system and there are millions of people out there like that. Majority of the early adapters that buy consoles, are gamers. But what about the non gamers, there are more non gamers than gamers in the world, but they end up buying a console for whatever reason, That price thing don’t mean anything, that’s what you see it as, but you have to be more open minded. The same way PS4 & Xbox One sales can decline. You never know, anything is possible. By mid 2016 to mid 2017, then we’ll have a better idea of what these systems life time sales could be heading to. But it’s way to early, no matter how poorly they’re selling now are how well they’re selling now.

          • jrob23

It’s called a prediction. One based on some facts, some projections, and some hunches. Mine is no better or worse than someone else’s. A console that is sitting at sub 6 million sold after two holiday seasons will have a tough time reaching 25-30 million in 5. I just can’t see them supporting it if sales continue to be low. I own their stock and took some profits recently because it doesn’t look good. Hopefully they turn it around but I’m sitting out until they get their act together

  • GregoryTheRainMaker

Waiting is a way of life.

    • TheTruthIsTold

Yep I’m waiting for everyone to see the truth and learn Nintendo is doomed.

  • John Andalora

So, question to all those who were saying that the last Nintendo Direct was only for games coming in the Spring:
    What the hell?

  • Scott Duperree

I don’t have an issue with mature games, the plot is too much for me. Not interested in witches and gods and the like in my games.

    • GregoryTheRainMaker

Then don’t get it…buy what you like.

    • http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008SRISGU#reader_B008SRISGU Adam Howell

Better make sure you don’t buy any Zelda games either.

    • WiiUPS4

      Better skip Wii U than

      • Magnus Eriksson

Everyone should skip Wii U now.

    • Virus6

Better not play a Mario game either. Magikoopas are basically witches.

    • Scott Duperree

Thanks for the reminders guys. Certainly the level of demonism involved in Bayonetta is a lot deeper than your other examples, but I shouldn’t ignore the subtle witchcraft in these Nintendo games. Or the Japanese style demons in more recent Zelda games. Not a big fan of those elements.

  • Daniel Gonzalez

Summer in Japan. So that basically means it won’t see a Western release until the fall(In my opinion). It’s sad that they can’t release it around the same time. That’s a poor choice by Nintendo.

    • GregoryTheRainMaker

Well all this tells me how important the game really is for Nintendo’s line-up in the Fall…I understand why they did it, but it also tells me the droughts aren’t going away.

      • Daniel Gonzalez

I get that they might wanna push it closer to the fall lineup, but it also just makes the drought that much worse to me. I guess I’ll call it good and bad news depending on who I talk to.

        • GregoryTheRainMaker

Yeah, this is a double-edge sword type of situation. Nintendo could have handled it more efficiently, but things didn’t work out that way. You just realize how important having third party games are in terms of filling in the gaps. I can only hope at E3 they don’t come out really mediocre….at no point can they be. I will still believe in the games…even if Iwata fails to prove the worth of the Wii U to everyone outside of the Nintendo fanbase.

    • GmailIsDown

they never released the latest Fatal Frame outside of Japan

      • http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008SRISGU#reader_B008SRISGU Adam Howell

A hd port of fatal frame 4 would have really helped fill the current software gap. Took 6 months for a tiny team to do an awesome port of windwaker. They had plenty of time to do something good.

        • GmailIsDown

a new Fatal Frame taking advantage of the Wii U gamepad would be a killer. but i suppose even if they made such a game they probably wouldn’t make it available overseas.

      • Daniel Gonzalez

Yep. Another fail to me. I know it’s not a big hit world wide, but it would have been a nice addition to my Wii library.

      • Daniel Gonzalez

Yeah, that was a blunder too.

  • GmailIsDown

most of these games are still coming to US this year right?

    http://www.ign.com/games/upcoming/wii-u?filter=latest

  • Luca Invernizzi

I think it would be nice for them to do the porting for the 1st one.

  • Jake

Bayonetta 2 looks great. I really enjoyed the first one and i look forward to this second one. My fear is Nintendo will not advertise and if they do not properly. They had a perfect opportunity last x-mas to try to get casual gamers but pretty much failed to do so. Also, with SM3DW, for a great game like that, I never saw an ad JUST for 3D World. Nintendo has all these great games, but unfortunately no one knows about them because Nintendo doesn’t seem to know how to advertise.

6 Days to Donkey Kong, haven’t seen 1 ad yet.

  • Captinn2

This game is basically Nintendo’s answer to Sony’s God of War haha.

    • Petri

I die a little bit inside, every time when people compare Bayonetta to God of War…
God of War isn’t really anything that needs to be answered to.

      • Daniel Gonzalez

They are two different games, but are within the same genre is probably why the comparisons. Though off the record, I prefer God of War. Played the first Bayonetta, was a good game, but the story didn’t really interest me overall. I’m on the fence for Bayonetta 2.

        • Petri

Yeah, the story might be little too japanese for western people to follow.
I’ve played it through countless of times, and I’m still not sure if I understood the story completely.

God of War’s combat is too slow paced for me, maybe closer relation to Dantes Inferno.
I bought 1&2 HD bundle in preparation for 3rd, but I just got too bored with 1st one to keep on playing.
Neither story or gameplay just couldn’t keep me on it.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

To each their own in terms of preference. I have all of them besides Ascension which I can admit was a let down and traded it in. Dante’s Inferno while I was skeptical of it, was surprisingly good despite it having the shit logo of EA on the game case.

          • Petri

At least I could play Dante’s Inferno all the way through.
Not saying God of War was necessarily a bad game, it just couldn’t get my interest at the time.

  • ETeach

Didn’t Platinum make Madworld and No More Heroes? I never played Bayo1, but if that’s any indication of the quality of their games, I’m so ready to try this game.

    • Daniel Gonzalez

They made Madworld, but No More Heroes was done by Grasshopper Manufacture.

      • FutureFox

How did this get downvoted? You are correct; a simple Google search is all that’s required.

        • Daniel Gonzalez

Yep. 2 people don’t like being informed.

  • TheTruthIsTold

Of course it would Nintendo wants to please the tentacle drawing hentai artists before you all need to wake up and see the truth!

  • Carlos Webster

At least us westerners will only wait a little longer for this game than the east.

  • TaintedXGamer

……….but…But… iwant to Throw My money at Bayonetta now :’( so she’ll strip for me!

    • GmailIsDown

      no she won’t

      • TaintedXGamer

she Will! :P or i won’t buy her game! just kiddin!…. I still gonna buy the game coz I like the hell outta the 1st one

        • Petri

Yes, she will… But only to let infernal demon chew you out.

  • e_rocket

Sumer is so far… that is sad

    • Daniel Gonzalez

      You read my mind.

    • oontz

Summer is only the Japanese release, they will still need time to localize it for the west. Won’t see this till fall at least in North America.

      • Ice Climbers

Assuming it isn’t being localized as its being developed like Pokemon X/Y.

        • oontz

          Nintendo said this…

“Bayonetta 2 will launch in Japan this Summer, and later this year, us Westerners will get to enjoy it.”

That shows me its releasing in Japan in the summer quarter… and early late fall in North America.

  • Fboogey

Like the The Clockwork Being said. Now I am actually worried about Nintendo. I’ve been defending them all this time and confident they would make a comeback but only because I was sure they would have a steady stream of games starting February.I thought we would have at least had Bayonetta in Spring. Two games(DK and MK8) in 5 months is not nearly enough. Not when sales have been Abysmal and you’ve got PS4 and XBOX breathing down your neck. Now is the time to release games and gain some momentum when they dont have anything out yet really. Dont wait till they drop Destiny and all this other stuff. For the first time I’m not confident Nintendo will make a comeback. Come on Nintendo get it together!

  • C.S. Bailey

While I still plan on getting the game, IMHO the release is coming a bit too late to really impact console sales. I know a few people will finally pick up a system by then to play it, but why buy new when a used one will be much cheaper? When I finally got my PS2 (wife won it at work), I had at least 10 games before anyone other than a pawnshop, Gamestop, or Blockbuster saw a dime of my money.
Hopefully when Nintendo said that once someone makes their first game purchase, the system becomes profitable, they really meant it.

    • oontz

And the used wiiu market is flooded right now. No trouble buying a great quality second hand wiiu, that’s for sure.

  • alex toschi

If they could get this out by April in the West it’d be huge. There is virtually no big releases coming up on any console right now. A lot of new adopters could be impulse buyers looking to play something!

    • Kevin James McAllister

      Titanfall…

    • GmailIsDown

      Thief…

      • alex toschi

I’m aware of Thief, as well as Titanfall and Infamous Second Son. That’s still isn’t much between three consoles for for the Spring Season. You can’t deny it would be good for Nintendo to at least compete a little.

  • gerb1977

To be honest I think for the 2nd year in a row Nintendo tried to leave a release window open for a major Ubiesoft title and are paying for it. Rayman would have helped had it released as planned last year and now Watch_Dogs sure would look good coming in April but again it has been delayed. So Feb 22nd – May 30th looks pretty bare.

    • jrob23

not to mention that when Wii U gets ports they are full price and missing features. Anyone see how Rayman Legends is starting at $39.99 for PS4? Yet, it only just this past month fell from $59 on the Wii U to $29. Any pretense that Ubi is ‘supporting’ the Wii U are gone. Ubi did that because they want to see bigger sales numbers and to help their buddies over their even if it means they take a loss. It’s pretty shitty of them the way they treated the Wii U.

  • sd

According to VG charts the Wii U sales have dropped back down to 36,000 a week, which would be about 1.9 million consoles a year. Now there are only 2 games being released by Nintendo in the first 5 months! Seriously screwed, feeling annoyed as I can see the end of the Wii U now.

For the loyal fans, I am a loyal fan, I bought and held onto my console from day 1. I have been waiting for the influx of games from Nintendo and have purchased many games. But this isn’t good enough now. They still havn’t implemented all of the day 1 features of the console and now it looks like only 2 games being released in the first half of this year. They are repeating their start to 2013.

For third party the only retail game with a release date announced before May is lego movie, which is multi-platform.

    Such a poor effort.

    • GmailIsDown

      http://www.ign.com/games/upcoming/wii-u?filter=latest

any of these games will still be released on time?

      • sd

I understand what your saying, but none of the games listed are system sellers and most of them are ports on the virtual console or small budget eshop games. Plus we are currently half way through Q1, yet where are the release dates of any of the games on that list. Do you honestly think the games will suddenly all be given release dates with only a few weeks to launch.

My concern is that most of the games like mario kart and bayonetta were announced when the console was first released. They were originally spring 2013 games, then delayed to summer 2013, then the end of 2013, then delayed to early 2014, now delayed again. The simple fact is people will not buy the Wii U if these games are not released soon (sales are back down to 30k a week, which is less than 2 million a year). The result will be that at best the Wii U continues to sell 3 million consoles (max) per year. If this happens then by next year third party support by the other major developers like Ubisoft will pretty much cease. This will further damage sales, leading the Wii U dead in the water by next year.

Also to further harm Nintendo by constantly failing to deliver on what is announced people will become disillusioned and it will damage early adoption of upcoming consoles.

Its a shame as it could be a great console.

        • GmailIsDown

Nintendo only has so much resource to make first party games and they admitted that developing games on wii u is much harder than what they anticipated. And I get the feeling that their hands are tied.

i get what you are saying. wii u has one year head start and the release schedule is still embarrassingly sparse. this is only going to get worse when the other next-gen consoles start to pick up. i think by this point no one still dreams that wii u will have as much 3rd party support as the other two next-gen consoles and multi-platform AAA games will continue to skip wii u. wii u is going to at best maintain its own niche. if people want exclusive nintendo games, play them on a wii u. for other games, play them on an xbox one / ps4 / gaming pc.

i hope nintendo can get it right with their next home console.

          • sd

I do agree and I hope Nintendo can get it right with their next consoles. Nintendo games are unique and are great to play. My annoyance is that I think the Wii U will be lucky to last into 2015-2016. Thats a shame. Plus with their next console they really need to whack out the games. This will be made harder if they dont convince third party developers that will leave the Wii U to return.

Regarding their resources do you know how much available money nintendo has? Its billions. Thats in available cash and bonds. All they need to do is spend some money and get external companies to make games for them. They have more available cash than sony and most other companies. So thats the frustration, decent management and decent planning and this could have been solved by now. Think about offering $5-10 million to 10 game companies to develop 10 exclusive games for them. Sure it might not fund the whole game (depending on the game), but companies would have jumped at this chance and sales would have massively increased. Imagine another 10 W101 or sonic type games

          • GmailIsDown

true. and this is why i get the feeling that their hands might be tied. they don’t seem to be doing a decent job supporting wii u. the commercials are lackluster and i think i only saw wii u commercials twice during the entire holiday season last year. and they refuse to do a more drastic price cut to lure more casual users to buy the system, and instead announced that they’d focus more on gamepad integration.

the management cannot do whatever they want in a company. they have a board to report to, and i suppose some board members are not too hot about wii u.

it is pretty sad considering this company used to dominate the video game scene. wii was a huge commercial success but i think in a way its success made the company overlook their underlying problems (not 3rd party friendly, losing “core” gamers, lagging behind in both software and hardware infrastructure, etc.). and wii u suffered because of that.

          • oontz

“wii was a huge commercial success but i think in a way its success made the company overlook their underlying problems (not 3rd party friendly, losing “core” gamers, lagging behind in both software and hardware infrastructure, etc.). and wii u suffered because of that.”

Very well said, my feeling exactly. I have owned a wiiu since day one but I’d be lying by saying it hasn’t left a sour taste in my mouth. I don’t see myself being an early adopter of their next system which is a shame cause it will be the first time since the NES that I don’t buy it on day one.

          • oontz

“Nintendo only has so much resource to make first party games”

Whose fault is that? They have a surplus of cash they should have been buying up developers left and right. Look at sony, they are able to always have a flow of games because they OWN 13 first party studios making games JUST for their platforms.

“they admitted that developing games on wii u is much harder than what they anticipated.”

Again they had more than enough time to research, train and learn HD development. They should have been prepared and ready for the switch from SD to HD but they weren’t. I honestly would like to no what they were thinking. By not preparing in advance for their first HD console. The same thing happened with the n64.. Switching from 2d to 3d development left users with a serious game drought when the n64 shipped. We only had Mario and pilot wings for a long time. They should have learned from their mistakes but they didn’t.

      • blaster man

Wow that list goes out to 2015? That’s only slightly more than the PS4 has coming out this quarter alone.

        • Zuxs13

PS4 has 32 games coming by end of Q2 21014 Wii U has 24. but of the PS4s 32 games at least 5 (that i could see off the top of my head) are already out on other systems including the Wii U. So it really isn’t all that much different.

          • ben

Only one ps4 game is exclusive, right?

          • Zuxs13

Not counting the Indie games i believe you are correct. At least for the first two quarters.

          • ben

Yeah, if you`re not interested in Infamous you may as well wait to buy a PS4. I also think the 100 games is typical Sony BS. Let`s include all the Wii games we can play on the wii u Emulator. How many games does the Wii U have…

          • oontz

Sony already stated on record that there are 100 ps4 games releasing in 2014.

          • Zuxs13

And you believe that hyperbole? That is 100 game including indie and who knows it probably includes ps1 and 2 games. So if you count all VC and Indie games that Nintendo is releasing on the Wii U it will be well over 100 too.

Yes the PS4 will have more AAA titles because it has far more 3rd party support. As far as being able to support its own console Sony themselves puts out half of what Nintendo does each year. And just because the PS4 has more games doesn’t mean it will be better, those games could suck.

          • oontz

“That is 100 game including indie and who knows it probably includes ps1 and 2 games.”

It doesn’t include games from PS1 or PS2. It includes Indie titles, Sony developed Exclusives and 3rd party support but not games coming on the PS Now service.

“Sony themselves puts out half of what Nintendo does each year.”

Ha ha, sure okay. They own 13 first party studios. That release multiple games on PS3, PS4 and PSvita EVERY MONTH. Yet you have the gall to say Nintendo is capable of supporting it’s own console yet sony isnt? Last time I checked there was a major drought with wiiu last year and the trend has continued this year BECAUSE Nintendo are unable to properly support their own console. You sir fail. Maybe do a bit of research before just talking crap.

          • Zuxs13

Wow such a little fan boy huh. Way to put words in my mouth. First I never said for a fact that it was ps1 and 2 games I said who knows it could be. Sony is always boast hyperbole. Its their job its marketing hype. Second I never said Nintendo can support their own console I said as far as their own support goes Nintendo makes more games. They developed/published over 200 games last year. I would say that is pretty self sufficient. Maybe Sony makes more but youshoukd ddo your own research before you Blabber off like a fan boy. Sony has15 studios Nintendo has 17.

“Wow such a little fan boy huh.”

            Nope but nice try.

“Way to put words in my mouth.”

How is me directly quoting what you said… putting words in your mouth? Laughable.

            “Sony has15 studios”

They HAD 15, they now have 13.

            “Nintendo has 17″

If Nintendo has 17 first party studios then there is EVEN more of an issue for their lack of games for the wiiu for 2014/2015. Also you say Nintendo developed/published over 200 games last year? How many were released on their flagship console the Wiiu? Barely none. Shame really. I’ve been a wiiu owner since day one and have watched them struggle this entire generation. Sad really.

          • Zuxs13

You didn’t directly quote me, you made an assumption about what i was saying based on your own bias.

I don’t see it as a first party struggling. Their biggest issue is they do not have major amounts of 3rd party games to fall back on between their major first party releases.

If Sony didn’t have Konami, and Squares support this spring, they would have nothing major coming out on their system either.

Nintendo released a bunch of major first party titles that were well received and rated, many sold pretty well. The Wii U already has an attachment rate well over 5 games, which is a good start. But just like Sony, many of the other games they released were rehashes, remakes, remixes, VC etc. And they missed out on games like Madden, FiFA, GTA, and Minecraft.

Could they have done more, yes, they even admitted they were not well prepared and could have done better. So far they have not proven that they have made the necessary changes either to do so.

If you are to judge a company by its performances then you can not over look what they have done and are doing with the 3DS. The amount and quality of games put out last year on the 3DS could eventually spill over to the WII U, although probably scaled back a bit because as you stated in another post “its a lot easier to make games for the 3DS than the WiiU” (even though its not “easier” it is just less time consuming in general and less costly).

          • oontz

            “You didn’t directly quote me”

You see where I copied what YOU WROTE and put quotation marks around it? That’s me quoting you.

“you made an assumption about what i was saying based on your own bias.”

Ha ha… not sure how I made an assumption when you said what you said. I didn’t assume you said something, I quoted what you said and replied.

“I don’t see it as a first party struggling.”

Are you serious? These Nintendo games coming this year should have been out already, mid to end of last year.

“Nintendo released a bunch of major first party titles that were well received and rated, many sold pretty well.”

But they didn’t move a lot of systems.

“Could they have done more, yes, they even admitted they were not well prepared and could have done better. So far they have not proven that they have made the necessary changes either to do so.”

Agreed. They need to turn this around before it’s really too late.

“If you are to judge a company by its performances then you can not over look what they have done and are doing with the 3DS.”

This is even worse… seeing as they can find success with one but not the other. I think that is part of the problem. They wanted to recreate the success of the DS in a home environment, hence the wiiu/tv dual screens but it just hasn’t worked out that way. Even Nintendo struggles to make use of the gamepad other than maps and items.

“even though its not “easier” it is just less time consuming in general and less costly”

Yes it takes less time and costs less to make, therefor by definition it’s easier.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

NSD doesn’t develop games. Lol. Sora LTD isn’t owned by Nintendo. They are independent and just work alongside them. AlphaDream is a partner and The Pokemon Company is just affiliated with them. They don’t actually take part in game development. Just handling the marketing and licensing.

          • Zuxs13

So change Sora LTD to project Sora, 75% funded by Nintendo. NSD does make games, they have made some pokemon games also things like swapnotes and many more.

Alpha dream is a second party subsidiary of Nintendo.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Okay, my mistake on NSD. However, most of their special games rarely make it outside of Japan. Project Sora no longer exists. They shut down in 2012.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Do you always believe Nintendo’s hyperbole? If Sony says 100 games then we can expect it. Sony has had better luck in consoles than Nintendo over the past 15 years. To be fair here, unlike Nintendo, Sony has a better track record right now when it comes to promises. You can deny that if you wish, but the truth stands out like a sore thumb. That hyperbole argument goes both ways bro.

          • Zuxs13

No i don’t believe Nintendo s hyperbole either. Its marketing. Sony can say there are 100 games coming out 20 of them could be tic tac toe games for all we know, 10 of them could be cancelled or delayed, but because they are currently planned to come out in 2014 they can say it. Chances are a dozen of those 100 games will be delayed it happens all the time, maybe more will come out or they will fill the gap with other games. But until they come out they in 2014 you can not say.

If Nintendo had said there were 100 games coming out in 2014 in this past direct, you would have said the same thing.

  • blaster man

I never played the first one. Is that game any good? Why does Nintendo only makes games produced by Japanese developers? They should have bought THQ’s assets.

    • Petri

      Retro is American developer.
DKC: TF launching next week, but pretty sure they have started another project already.
But yes, they should try to acquire more western developers as well.

      • blaster man

According to Wikipedia, Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 are made by “Platinum” a Japanese developer.

I looked up “Retro” and from what I can tell all they’re making are Nintendo’s traditional Japanese franchises. While you’re right that they’re an American company, they aren’t allowed to make western games. I don’t think Nintendo makes any Western games.

        • Petri

          What makes a game Japanese?
Don’t know if they have done anything other than Metroid Primes and Donkey Kong games.
But neither of those feel particularly Japanese.

I’m pretty sure, if Retro wanted to make a new “western” IP, Nintendo would let them.

  • MujuraNoKamen

I knew it would come soon. It actually said on Platinum’s website developing is nearing completion – thanks to Gardevoir Eliz for posting that link.

    • John Andalora

If “Summer” is soon to you, I suppose.

      • blaster man

I bet it sells about 200,000 copies and loses a lot of money.

        • John Andalora

Going with the safe bet, eh?

          • blaster man

Pretty much. I don’t think it will sell many systems and probably won’t do much better than The Wonderful 101.

      • MujuraNoKamen

Good point but hey it’s better than the Q3 release a lot of people were expecting.
EDIT: Isn’t it possible this game may release in the west before Japan? W101 came out in Europe first so maybe we’ll get it just a little sooner… I hope…

        • John Andalora

          Eh…
True, but Nintendo still needs some games coming out at an even pace rather than just “later than summer”.

          In response to your edit
          No.
The article literally says that the Western release is coming out later than the Japanese release.

          • Petri

Wii U daily says that? Or there is an official statement somewhere that Japan first, then others?

          • John Andalora

It’s an official statement by both Nintendo and Platinum games.

I know this isn’t an official Nintendo website, but I believe they’re fairly reliable.

            http://mynintendonews.com/2014/02/14/bayonetta-2-coming-to-japan-in-the-summer/

As far as anyone can tell, the Nintendo Direct in Japan said that Bayonetta will come out in the summer, but that the West Directs stated that it would be out “later this year.”

What people assume is that if Bayonetta 2 was coming out earlier or at the same time in the West, they probably would’ve said “Summer” or “Spring” for the other Nintendo Directs. Does that seem reasonable?

          • Petri

Yes… later this year can mean anything.
But I don’t think it will be as far as fall or winter.
And “in the summer” is not a release date either.
I am disappointed, that we still don’t have exact release date.

          • John Andalora

But if it was something before summer, it would make more sense to say that, wouldn’t it? Especially if people are concerned about having absolutely nothing to play between DKC and Super Smash Bros (Feb. to May).

          • MujuraNoKamen

I know it was wishful thinking but damn. This really is isn’t filling me with confidence about the game drought Reggie promised wouldn’t happen. If we at least had MK8 by the end of March then would at least give us something to play until B2, X etc but Nintendo are really dragging their heels.

        • oontz

It’s releasing in japan before the west. Which means likely a fall release for this title.

          • MujuraNoKamen

Dang. Oh well, I hope it isn’t a long wait.

          • oontz

We’ll see… it should’ve been released this spring.

  • Boogie

Nintendo really need 2get the ball rolln wit games, I think the system will be fine once the good games start coming, I own a wii u for first party titles, I own a ps4 as well but I love em both the xbox sucks always have always will in my opinion

  • Josie the Sketcher

I wanna get this game as it looks pretty intense. I wish Nintendo would get their act together. They haven’t been planning very well.

  • Kenshin0011

Reggie lied when he said there would be no droughts in 2014. In between DK and MK8 is a 3 – month drought of major releases. Three months!?!? That might not sound long but it is, that’s a quarter (1/4) of the entire year! I know they can’t fix their lack of planning and dev issues overnight, but this better be fixed in 2015 or else I have no hope in Nintendo’s current management

    • C4

Yep, I remember last year and with the comments from Reggie and Iwata one could expect MK, Bayo and Smash in spring (and DK in december…). Now that would have been a sufficient line-up. They failed to achieve that.

Personally I can wait though, especially when that means more polish and less bugs, Bayo release in early summer would be okay for me, but it kind of sounds more like fall release.

    • Ice Climbers

Reggie did not lie. He said that there “would be no droughts for 3DS and Wii U in 2014.” He clumped the 3DS and Wii U release schedules together. He also didn’t specify major retail releases either. For just Wii U there are several indies, NES Remix 2, and Virtual Console games (including GBA) coming in between Tropical Freeze and Mario Kart 8. There technically isn’t a drought, and he technically didn’t lie.

Reggie is a salesman, its his job to use careful and broad wording.

  • edge

By my count there’s only two retail games in the first quarter of 2014: The Lego Movie Videogame, and DK Tropical Freeze. I know the first few months after Christmas are slow for everyone, but just two games for a whole quarter? You better start downloading those VC and eShop games, because for many months, that will be all you get.

When in doubt bring goemon out.

I guess Nintendo’s saving all the “big-hitter” titles for E3, though that’s not necessarily a bad choice, it doesn’t exactly help their situation either. I’m not saying they should of showed Zelda U or anything, what I’m saying is they should of showed at least one new game we know nothing about. Like, maybe that hinted Pokemon fighting game for Wii U? Or that Yarn Yoshi game? At the very least, they should of talked more about Hyrule Warriors. Since it’s literally the only new announced game for Wii U since last E3.

So, since they’re obviously waiting for E3 to reveal everything, why not do a little speculating? :)

    Here’s my predictions for E3 2014:
    1. There will be a new trailer for Smash Bros, they will reveal 2 or 3 new/old playable characters for the game. They will reveal a specific release date.

    2. The hinted Pokemon fighting game will be revealed, along with a release date, and possible somehow it having a 3DS integration function (maybe you can send your team from Pokemon X or Y to the game and fight with those, instead of the roster they have. So in that sense, you could fight as any Pokemon you want, not just fighting-type Pokemon. As, I assume the roster would be all fighting-type Pokemon, and heavy weight looking Pokemon, like Charizard)

    3. They will show a new trailer of Bayonetta, and reveal the specific release date for the west.

    4. Zelda U will be shown (they confirmed this.) Along with a specific release date, my assumption is fall or winter of 2014. Possible a very early 2015 release, such as a spring release.

    5. They’ll finally talk about Yarn Yoshi, with a release date (specific or non specific.)

    6. They will show a new trailer of Hyrue Warriors, give a specific release date, and explain a little more about the game, such as if it has an storyline or not.

    7. They will have a new trailer of X, and have a specific release date.

    8. They might (keyword: “might”) show a new Metroid game for Wii U.

    9. They’ll show Mario Galaxy 3 (it’s kind of obvious they’re making another one, with all the attention Rosalina has been getting.)

    10. They will blow everyone’s mind and show Banjo Threeie! (Okay no, this is just a fantasy of mine that I wish would be a reality.)

    • oontz

Zelda wont be coming till winter 2015 at the earliest but they still should have shown something in the direct… Even a splash screen of the Zelda title with it’s iconic Epic music playing would have made fans go crazy and generated buzz. They wouldn’t even need to show any gameplay. Look at sony and their tease for Uncharted 4 on ps4 even though it’s not coming till probably 2015, the little tease (a map, some voice acting, iconic music) generated a huge buzz for the ps4. Nintendo seriously needs a new PR rep for their brand. Someone that knows how to sell and generate buzz for a product line.

As for your other predictions. I really hope the entire E3 isn’t about all the games we already KNOW are coming this year. They need to have something more up their sleeve or the competition is going to walk all over them.

      • 00EpicGamer00

        …Nice to see you again…
Anyway I think Zelda has a pretty high chance of being released in late-ish of 2014. First of all, it’s been in production since…2011 (maybe even 2010, for all we know they could of been working on it as soon as Skyward Sword was released.)
So, that means it’s been in production for 3 years, maybe even 4 years. I think that’s long enough, don’t you?
Also, Miyamoto was going to show Zelda at last year’s E3, but decided not to so it wouldn’t detract attention from Wind Waker. If Miyamoto was going to show Zelda, then I assume that the game was halfway complete at the time. So, by now I assume it’s practically ready for distribution.

Umm…not ALL the games I mentioned are what we already know about. Metroid is a game that’s hasn’t been talked about at all. That Pokemon game hasn’t been talked about at all (and may not even be an actual game.) Same with Yarn Yoshi, hasn’t been talked about, and may not be an actual game. Also, Galaxy 3 is a game that’s never been mentioned before, and is just a speculation of mine.

Remember, it’s just a simple prediction list I wanted to write, most of my prediction will be wrong, but it’s obvious that some will be true…such as Zelda, I may be wrong about the release date, but I know FOR SURE they will show it (as Iwata said so himself.) Also, you should know that I’m playing it safe with my predictions too. I don’t want to over-hype myself…again. -.-

(Oh, and uh…..I’m not sure if this is the right time to be sharing this, but I finally got a PS3 after Christmas. Me and my sister put our Christmas money together and bought one. And…we both love it. Not saying it’s better than anything Nintendo can do, but…Sony can be good too.) >.>

        • oontz

I am predicting a winter 2015 release of Zelda Wiiu. Another reason is the fact that the zelda game we are actually being shown right now is Hyrule warriors. Nintendo isn’t going to release two Zelda games (Hyrule Warriors and Zelda U) so close together. I think Hyrule Warriors is Nintendos way of keeping the Zelda fans happy while they work on Zelda U.

Predictions are cool. I would love to see a new mario game, different from SM3DW.

Glad you’re branching out and enjoying games on other platforms. There are some amazing games on PS3. I hope you get a lot of enjoyment out of it.

          • 00EpicGamer00

You have a point…maybe Hyrule Warriors will release in summer and Zelda U in Winter? Nah, Zelda U will release in 2017. :P
But, on a serious note, yeah, I’m starting to see a 2015 release to be more likely…ughhh I just want this game so bad!

Thanks, I will get allot of enjoyment out of my…*ahem* “our” PS3. Though, what I find the most funny is I’m getting more use out of my PS3 than my Wii U…and I only have 3 (technically 4) games for it….while I have 7 games for my Wii U….somethings not right here, lol. (I realize this basically contradicts what I said before, but I didn’t think about it until now.)

  • 504HotBoy

I been reading some of these post and let’s be honest here. Nintendo has made some major mistakes, really major. Bad marketing and promoting, Confusing people with the Wii U title, making most consumers believing it’s a add on for the Wii. The constant game delays, them focusing more on the 3DS, instead of concentrating more on Wii U as it’s a stuggling system and 3DS is doing well, doesn’t need all the attention. Them keeping fans/gamers in the blind on unannounced games. As we all know they have games in development, but they refuse to show them. Cause that’s Nintendo being Nintendo, which is a pain.
I said all that to say this. Why are some of these posters who claim they want Nintendo to do better, so that’s why they’re hard on Nintendo is making comparisons to other platforms. But the way they are doing it is by putting certain platforms on a high pedestal and slick side down grading Nintendo. When somebody says something positive or speak highly of Nintendo, they reply to that person and try to shoot down that person post by once again down grading or discrediting what they say. While at the same time making sure they mention the rival platform and putting it higher than Nintendo’s platform. If you really care for Nintendo to do better, what does Sony or Microsoft for that matter has to do with anything? Why even bring their name up? What’s the point of coming to this site or any site for that matter to come off as someone who just want to diss, hate, be negative, towards a brand you may not be feeling. Then promote your favorite brand like it’s god’s gift to earth. Constantly pissing fans off with that nonsense. I honestly have to know, what do people get out of that. You have to think about it, that’s really sad, if everyday you just have to go on these sites just to be bias and a hater. Ruining it for people who love games in general, whether it’s Nintendo, Sega (miss you guys), Sony, or Microsoft. It doesn’t matter, all made their mark and have great systems and games. As a person who own multiple consoles, this sickens me!

    • oontz

“If you really care for Nintendo to do better, what does Sony or Microsoft for that matter has to do with anything? Why even bring their name up?”

In any form of business the competition will always be brought up and product lines will be compared. Nintendo doesn’t operate in some sort if bubble. They are part of the video game business. I am a Nintendo fan and wiiu supporter since day one and I still compare them to other platforms. It’s not a bad thing, if anything it shows that Nintendo is not doing their best to bring gamers what they want. If they were than more people would be buying a wiiu. On top of that many people compare Nintendo to Sony on this site because many Nintendo fans have blinders on and feel Nintendo can do no wrong. Nintendo seriously messed up this generation. They took for granted HD development and also 3rd party support. Worse of all they assumed that the the wiiu would sell itself based in the amazing wii sales and the wii brand. They didn’t listen to what gamers wanted when developing the wiiu, they chose weaker hardware to secure their profits on every unit sold, and worse of all they didn’t have any games prepared for launch to show the systems true capability and still don’t. Nintendo did mess up and should be compared to their direct competition. If sony can get it right then Nintendo (after being in this industry for so long) really have no excuse.

      • 504HotBoy

I think you didn’t understand the point im making on what certain posters doing. I’ll give you an example. Poster 1: wow that Wii U game looks great. Poster 2: That game looks like a PS2 game. Nintendo sucks, Sony will blow their ass out the industry. There are more examples I could give. The stuff they saying has nothing to do with talking about Nintendo faults. A blind man can see that. They downright bashing. It’s the same as if you go in a Sony site and say Sony going bankrupt, their going out of business. Microsoft going to dominate their ass. Sony games suck, they make the same boring Killzone and Uncharted games over and over. Microsoft is a way better company and will own this industry. Im sorry but there is no way in hell you can defend that behavior or make excuses for it. That’s just bitter hating ass so called gamers doing that.

        • oontz

I think the types of posts you’re mentioning come out of frustration from the poster or they are just trolling to piss people off. Don’t forget that fanboys also exist on the Nintendo side of the fence and are just as guilty (if not worse) of doing what you say, even more they blindly accept anything from Nintendo with blinders on, unable to look realistically at the situation. All companies should be compared to their direct competition, same goes for Nintendo fanboys. They need to realize that sometimes there are better gaming options available and that’s not really a bad thing.

          • 504HotBoy

Yeah I know there are all type of stans/fan boys and I would be saying the samething if we were in a Sony article and a Nintendo or Microsoft stan/fan boy was coming up in there talking non sense and being hateful for no reason. Yeah and I know about people being blind toward their favorite brand situation and won’t accept or in denial of their favorite developer/system faults. I seen Nintendo fans defend the Wii U and being in denial of it’s struggling situation. It’s hurting right now, there is no denying that. Also Nintendo isn’t making the situation any better. As they continue to ignore the problems and not address the issues. Which makes the Wii U future uncertain. I also seen Sony fans do the samething, defend Sony. Knowing they’re in major trouble financially (no matter how well the PS4 is selling), they are in some major trouble. They been selling off things to revitalize their company. They have more of a chance of going out of business than any of the other two. But the fanboys/stans ignore it. So yeah I see fans turn a blind eye to these things. But once again im talking about posters who come in these articles just to be negative and stir up hate. It’s like I said when they see some one post a positive comment, it’s like it bothers them and they have to shoot that person comment down with a negative down grade/discredit remark. That can be in any system article, not just Nintendo. But since we’re in a Nintendo article that’s what we’re discussing. So my question again is, What do they get out of that?

          • oontz

“So my question again is, What do they get out of that?”

People that have EXTREME product loyalty want to feel good about the product they support and have purchased. They don’t want to think they support a lesser product. So they will try and make someone else feel less about supporting A DIFFERENT product.

Nintendo fanboys (IMO) are the worst for this. Even when provided with clear facts they still choose to ignore it and spout off nonsense. Other fanboys are also bad which makes it difficult to have an actual discussion with them. Truthfully any fanboys of any product are bad.

On this site there are people from both groups. I actually like Nintendo and support the wiiu but I do so with a realistic outlook. However when I provide some actual facts to some posters on this site, or ask them to backup their bold claims… I am called a troll, loser, etc. Even though I fully support Nintendo.

It really does go both ways.

          • 504HotBoy

Oh I can see that. That’s a good explanation. But that is still childish on their part.

  • SGTMAR

Nintendo is fucking up. Plain and simple. Reggie did promise a drought-free 2014 for the Wii U and shit is not happening. Nintendo fans need to start expressing themselves via social networks and tagging Nintendo. Someone needs to start a Nintendo (Wii U) strike.

    • Zuxs13

In case you missed it there is a Wii U strike. Only 5.4 million have sold so far, far less than Nintendo had foretasted, Id say the strike is in full effect.

    • oontz

Empty promises… That’s all we get. Nintendo seriously messed up this generation and it’s going to have residual effects on their next home console as well. They had a second chance at greatness and seriously messed it up.

      • http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008SRISGU#reader_B008SRISGU Adam Howell

As far as long term damage goes, if Nintendo manages to deliver a strong Wii U lineup in a future year (Not saying it’s going to happen) the droughts will be forgotten. We saw this with the 3ds. That suffered far worst droughts than the Wii U and yet all people now talk about is how many games it got in 2013 and that at least Nintendo offers their handheld great support.

Perceptions at the end of the consoles life has more impact on the next gen than the early years. The PS3 had it’s strongest year of its life just before the release of the PS4. Nobody cared that it sucked and had relatively few games in its early years. Likewise, the fact the Wii was almost dead, bare some niche games and a Zelda and DK, for the last few years of it’s life did a huge amount of damage.

Personally I doubt Nintendo will ever have a Wii U year with a lineup as strong as the 3ds’s in 2013, but they could turn the console a cool niche console that, though many still wont buy it, is generally recognised as having some very strong exclusives.

        • oontz

“We saw this with the 3ds.”

They (nintendo) turned that situation around very quickly though… and after trying the same methods with wiiu (price cut, bundles, game releases etc) they aren’t seeing the same turn around. It’s also much easier to devop a game for the 3ds compared to a home console outputting at 1080p.

“Perceptions at the end of the consoles life has more impact on the next gen than the early years.”

Not for me… opposite now. I will wait a while before buying (if I even do) Nintendo’s next home console, because of what has happened software wise for the wiiu since launch.

“they could turn the console a cool niche console that,”

It’s already a niche console as only hardcore Nintendo fans are taking the plunge so far. Half of my gaming friends don’t even know what the wiiu is. That is a massive failure for Nintendo.

          • http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008SRISGU#reader_B008SRISGU Adam Howell

“They (nintendo) turned that situation around very quickly though”

No they didn’t. I bought most major 3ds games at first. And currently have over 80 3ds games including vc games. Despite that not only was there a huge drought in 2011 but big parts of 2012 also had nothing. There were a few big games in 2012 but it wasn’t until 2013 that we saw good releases through most of the year.

As I point out it’s also true of the PS3. The ps3 suffered gaming droughts at first and people complained on forums. But who remembers that now?

You missed the “is generally recognised as having some very strong exclusives.” from your quote of me.

          • oontz

            “No they didn’t.”

Yes they did, as soon as they dropped the price and provided the ambassador program on August 12th 2011. 3DS sales started to turn around and people started buying the system. Then throughout 2012 it continued to pick up steam and saw it’s best year last year.

“As I point out it’s also true of the PS3.”

But the PS3 always had a strong showing of 3rd party support and also some of THE best first party exclusives. So far the way the wiiu is playing out, it will be remembered poorly and not a system that made a strong finish. Look at the situation, year 2 of the wiiu life and we are looking at about 6 must have games. Ps3 had 71 games released in their second year (2007). Do the math.

          • http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008SRISGU#reader_B008SRISGU Adam Howell

we are talking about software droughts here. 3ds sales improved around the time mario kart came out. but it doesnt change the fact that there were many patches with almost nothing.

the playstation drought had ended by the end of 2007. they got many games at the end of that year and the following year was great. then nobody remembers the drought… just as you don’t. the wii u wont have a drought towards xmas 2014 just as it didnt near xmas 2013. but i think droughts could reoccure on the wii u throughout its life unless nintendo takes big measures

          • oontz

“i think droughts could reoccure on the wii u throughout its life unless nintendo takes big measures”

Well it isn’t going to sell itself so they better do something.

      • FutureFox

In fairness this generation just started so little early to say the messed it up entirely. The 3DS’s history proves hardware can be turned around about face.

        • oontz

“The 3DS’s history proves hardware can be turned around about face.”

First off the 3DS has a ton of first and 3rd party software support it also has great word of mouth advertising as almost every child has one. However that being said you don’t want to base your future business decisions on the hopes that your product will perform the same as another product did in the past. Nintendo did this with the wiiu and the wii and look how that turned out.

  • Ice Climbers

The Xbox One and PS4 aren’t the Wii U’s biggest concerns right now. Wii U isn’t really competing with those systems – its competing with the 3DS. For someone who wants their Nintendo gaming fix, why the hell would they waste money on the Wii U when they can buy a 3DS that is far more attractive right now? 3DS is getting all the major games right now. Where’s Kirby, Mario Golf, and Yoshi? On the 3DS! Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, and Luigi’s Mansion? On the 3DS!

    3rd parties aren’t an issue – that’s what the PS3/360/XB1/PS4 are for.

The majority of Wii U games have counterparts on the 3DS. Even Smash Bros is getting a 3DS version.

The Wii U lacks games that make people stop and say “I really need a Wii U!”.

People that really want their Nintendo gaming fix will buy a 3DS. Its the place to go for all your Nintendo gaming needs.

Nintendo lacks direction with the Wii U – they are just throwing darts at a board and hoping they stick.

The Wii U’s lack of focus makes it unattractive. Compare it to the 3DS, and its like night and day.

That’s why a new CEO is a bad idea. A new CEO would see the 3DS as the Wii U’s problem – it is – and foolishly decide to axe it.

    • oontz

“Wii U isn’t really competing with those systems – its competing with the 3DS.”

What are you smoking… It is directly competing with the PS4 and XB1. Those are the three available major home video game consoles. Some people can only afford ONE home console each generation… they must choose between the Wiiu, PS4 and XB1. So far they have very little reason to choose a wiiu over the other two.

The 3ds is competing with the handheld market which now inlcudes mobile devices such as android and ios powered phones and tablets. Those handhelds don’t directly compete with home consoles. They are two very different eco-systems.

      • Ice Climbers

And what do you think people are gonna buy if they want a Nintendo system? That’s right, a 3DS. Anybody that wants their Nintendo gaming fix WILL get a 3DS over a Wii U. The “not being able to afford more than one home console each generation” is a bullshit excuse. The majority of those people spend that much money in $60 games in one year.

People who even consider a Nintendo system in the first place are gonna want it specifically for Nintendo games – they won’t care about the rest. They won’t even ponder the thought of choosing between a Wii U and a PS4/XB1. A Nintendo system isn’t an option for someone’s main console for the generation.

Being a handheld or a console doesn’t matter when people’s money is concerned. Anybody that wants to play Nintendo games will buy a Nintendo system, but they will choose between a 3DS and a Wii U. The 3DS will always be the better choice.

        • oontz

“And what do you think people are gonna buy if they want a Nintendo system? That’s right, a 3DS.”

Until the 3ds can be connected via HDMI to a home theatre… people are going to opt for the home console before a handheld ONLY device. The 3ds is selling like made because every little kid wants one. I live in asia and Almost every single child between 6 to 16 has either a Nintendo DS or 3Ds. Same goes for Canada. It’s the hot item that all parents buy their kids. That is why its selling like made.

“The “not being able to afford more than one home console each generation” is a bullshit excuse.”

Um no sorry it isn’t bullshit… There are a lot of households that can only afford one home console. Sometimes even waiting till they are on the market for some time, with a price cut or second hand.

“A Nintendo system isn’t an option for someone’s main console for the generation.”

THIS IS THE PROBLEM. As I said MOST households cannot afford two systems. They need one machine that does it all.

“Anybody that wants to play Nintendo games will buy a Nintendo system, but they will choose between a 3DS and a Wii U. The 3DS will always be the better choice.”

No, it’s not the best chose because its a handheld and cannot be connected to my 65″ home theatre set up and played in 1080p. I own a Wiiu… not a 3ds.

          • Ice Climbers

No, most people will opt for the 3DS because it is cheaper and has all the major games coming to it. What does the Wii U have that the 3DS doesn’t in games? X and Bayonetta 2? Yeah, not enough to warrant buying it over the 3DS.

Most little kids get tablets instead of a handheld. 3DS is selling like mad because of its library, not little kids. That demographic for Nintendo’s handhelds is a lot smaller than people think.

          • oontz

“What does the Wii U have that the 3DS doesn’t”

1080p HD/7.1 DTS surround sound output to someones home theatre. I (and millions of others) don’t work all day and go home to unwind by playing a handheld. We own home theatres and like to put them to use.

“That demographic for Nintendo’s handhelds is a lot smaller than people think.”

Actually you’re mistaken and independent market research firms has concluded that Nintendo is most popular with THAT demographic than any other one.

          • Ice Climbers

Nintendo USED to be the most popular with the little kid demographic. They’re not anymore. Mobile gaming on tablets and smartphones has taken that from them.

Hell, even Pokemon X/Y was directed and advertised towards an older audience. If that’s not proof, then I don’t know what is.

          • http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008SRISGU#reader_B008SRISGU Adam Howell

I do feel that I was able to skip both the gamecube and wii because I had Nintendo handhelds. That said, of course the ps4 and xbox one are the wii u’s main competition.

The 3ds just makes the wii U less essential for Nintendo fans. I was happy with just a pc and handhelds for two gens. There are nintendo fans who’ll be happy with just an xbox one or ps4 and 3ds.

          • oontz

“Nintendo USED to be the most popular with the little kid demographic”

No they still are… don’t believe me? Go and do some research on the topic and see for your self.

Wii U doesnt output DTS 7.1.
Uses six-channel PCM linear output via HDMI connector, or analog output via the AV Multi Out connector.

Sorry 5.1 then. Regardless your post just re-enforces the point I was making… and that is the 3ds doesn’t give the same experience as wiiu.

People who say Nintendo is just for families, casual gamers, Mario, Zelda and stop (which is a plus, not a minus, tell those people…) and then claim Bayonetta 2 won’t come to they beloved 8-core 8-giga consoles SHOULD begin to ask themselves how much silly is what they are spamming all the days in blogs, sites, and so on. They won’t play Bayonetta 2, even if they would like, because they are Nintendo haters. What a stupid thing to be an hater.
