Punch Out! and Super Mario RPG are Club Nintendo’s featured games for February

SuperMarioRPGSNESCoverArtUS

Every month we get a new set of games from Nintendo on the Club Nintendo store that can be redeemed for 200 coins for Wii/Wii U games, and 150 coins for Nintendo 3DS games. This month’s games have been updated to feature Punch-Out!! featuring Mr. Dream and Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. For those of you unfamiliar with Nintendo’s recent advertising change, only Punch-Out!! can be played on the Wii U native virtual console. If you redeem your coins for Super Mario RPG, you’ll have to boot into Wii mode in order to play it.

Also updated was the Nintendo 3DS selection, including Donkey Kong Jr. and Pictobits. All of these games will be available until March 9th, so if you have extra coins sitting around in your account and you want to redeem them, be sure and pick them up before that date. If you do decide to purchase Super Mario RPG, you’ll be able to convert it to a Wii U virtual console game at a discount price should it be added to the Wii U virtual console some time in the future.

I’ve owned mario rpg forever and its my all time fav RPG. I would INSTANTLY BUY it if it was on 3DS, not on Wii *mode*.

  • long_dong_donkey_kong

Here’s the problem with Club Nintendo, when they release good games (like Punchout and Mario RPG), anybody worth his or her salt already has them. So here I sit with almost 1,000 Club Nintendo coins, and almost nothing to spend them on. I wish you could cash in Club Nintendo coins for discounts on any eShop game similar to how the Wii U Deluxe promo works.

    • Skelterz

Dude at least you the have the option i get to choose from a pikmin keyring…Yeah right or a fucking princess peach notebook!!!! fuck that shit!!

      • Michael Ocampo

wait… so you don’t get games on your club nintendo?

        • Skelterz

No we get fucking gay stuff like keyrings and notebooks!

          • Michael Ocampo

hmm… can you send me a link of your club nintendo please?

          • Skelterz

            http://stars.nintendo-europe.com/?count=24

its all junk i want software for wii u not wii and i most certainly don’t need a keyring or foam stickers for my front room that’s all junk!

          • Michael Ocampo

dude… you guys got Pikmin keyrings, Galaxy soundtracks, Game and watch ball, and foams too! Those are pretty cool in my opinion. Each club has their own cool stuff which makes cool stuff seem even cooler. :D I’d probably pick up the keyring or the soundtracks.

          • CEObrainz

The thing is the galaxy sound tracks are already on you-tube if you wanted to listen to them and the key-rings could be found in countless places for different game series’. Perhaps they should join both reward sites together to add a greater variety…

          • Michael Ocampo

but it would take away that feeling of “WOW! Europe has a lotta cool stuff!! YAY!! WE GET MARIO AND WEEGEE HATS!! As for the keyrings, usually when i’ve found them they’re… less than stellar but the ones on CN look preety cool. (CN sounds like cartoon network XD) I guess they’re on youtube… but soundtracks are kinda cool to have physically as well for those that want it.

          • CEObrainz

I do get what you mean, but Nintendo should try to make the stores more attractive to those who have access to their respective regions. I have the official Zelda Anniversary Disc which came with Skyward Sword (It’s amazing!), but the first thing I did was rip it as a WAVE file and put it on my phone. Digital is just more preferable for me.

          • Skelterz

yeah ok the soundtrack is cool but is over priced the only thing i ever got on club nintendo was the luigi coin.

      • long_dong_donkey_kong

The best non-game thing they ever had was the charging station for the 3DS XL which was sold out in 20 seconds.

        • Skelterz

Its still there i own a 2ds….i’d still prefer software.

  • Skelterz

What about England and europe we just get notebooks and stupid fucking kitchen cloths!

    • http://www.mpt-online.eu/ Sylux

Don’t forget the wii mote wristbands n Green, yellow, Blue and red, or was it pink?

      • Skelterz

lol something like that what a load of old tat

    • snowsensei

I think we’re all in kind of the same boat lusting over the stuff Japan gets. I’ve been tempted to get the cloth myself, not really because I want it, but because there isn’t much else there. I will say this for the UK rewards though, I wanted those Mario Kart trophies like you don’t even know…

      • Skelterz

I don’t even remember seeing them how much did they go for?

        • snowsensei

I’m in the US so I don’t know how much they were on CN, all I know is that they were exclusive to CN Europe and they start at $130 each on eBay. I would have loved to get the green shell one, but I just can’t justify the money.

    • Arthur Jarret

I got the luigi diorama, snes classic controller for wii, game ‘n watch collection for DS, 25th anniversary mario coin, a set of hanafuda cards…. way back when I also received mario tennis gba, animal crossing for gamecube, a zelda collection disc, pokebox ruby / sapphire, a gameboy micro (which I gave to a random kid including a pokemon game)… I also got a bunch of wii points in the past.

I guess it could be worse, really. I wish they’d offer eshop game codes for our stars, though.

    • Simon Stevens

This is too true, we get nothing but crap

    • Mads

Redefine Europe. I live in Denmark and we can’t get anything!

  • Sdudyoy

Super Mario RPG, I’m yet to beat that game, maybe I should get this and make myself finish it.

    • Skelterz

Or you could head to japan and make iwata suck your balls because your sick of booting up wii mode lol?

      • Michael Ocampo

        u be dissin Iwata?

        • Skelterz

          Please understand

      • Sdudyoy

I don’t mind booting up Wii mode, all you have to do is hold B down while your Wii U is booting, and besides I can download this to my Wii also.

  • cThreep

I’m gonna have to buy a Wii Classic Controller if they keep offering great games that are playable only on the Wii Virtual Console mode. WHY can’t Nintendo just make the Wii U Pro Controller compatible in Wii mode for Virtual Console games? WHY WHY WHY??? I sold my Wii to get a Wii U and along with it my gamecube controllers…no more Wii Virtual Console games for me unless I buy yet another controller…

    • Christian Schoff

Surprising that you didn’t already have a Classic controller.

      • cThreep

I never had a need for one, considering I had four Gamecube controllers that served the exact same function.

        • Christian Schoff

I got one for the wireless functionality.

          • Roman

I think GC trumps classic controller every time. The wave bird was kick ass! Lack of GC controller support on Wii U is understandable, but it makes me super nervous for SmashBros.

On another note: they honestly should have included gamepad support for the wii emulator, they simply needed to rout it as if it was a classic pro controller (or even simply classic).

I bought twilight princess in order to play for the first time (gotta catch up before the next Zelda). But I only played for like 20 min, switching from WWHD’s controls to the wiimote and nunchuck was too much. I would totally play off screen with the gamepad.

        • Yousif Alromaithi

I just bought one for Major Mask. No regrets it will be a long time a remake will come. I feel ya I never had a classic controller except GameCube back when I was playing Melee on Wii.

  • Tomtom

Wow wanted to replay Mario rpg but club Nintendo won’t let me redeem it :(

    • Skelterz

Its because nintendo let ubisoft emulate it, Its been delayed…

      • Tomtom

        Haha good one

      • Lil J Moore

        lol

      • JB

        Well played sir.

  • Aleks

If you want to see it on your somehow propped up gamepad, within 15 ft of your TV, in Wii mode, NOT in playable form on the actual WiiU gamepad, despite it having perfectly good buttons itself, and you want to use another controller to input commands, then this is the game for you!

    • Skelterz

There was a nail with a head you took to it with a hammer.

    • The Clockwork Being

      Nintendo does it wrong again…

      • Simon Stevens

        Dat Iwata

        • TrueGamer

          Another goof by Iwata-san.

          • Simon Stevens

We call them goons in the UK lol

          • TrueGamer

Perfect fit for Iwata. Those games should be on VC.

      • TrueGamer

        Shame too.

  • Michael Ocampo

    Super MARIO RPG!!! (^o^)/
    Wii mode -_-’
Edit: Better than nothing, right guys? At least we’re getting this awesome looking game in some form. :)

  • Christian Schoff

Sure is a lot whinging here.

  • Mr. Berzerk

They shouldn’t charge for these when they ACTUALLY come to the wii U. There is not reason to charge an extra 1.50, and every Nintendo fan should complain about it. It is greed in purist form.

    • Mr. Berzerk

I would add to that, that every person who HAS paid extra so that they didn’t have to load an emulator in an emulator should be refunded. The whole thing of launching an emulator game from a wii emulator is THE DUMBEST thing Nintendo has ever done. EVER. Even dumber that VB, or the Mario movie. IT IS DUMB.

      • Christian Schoff

So the time and effort that are put into coding the game to run on Wii U and the Gamepad should not be rewarded? Nothing in this world is free you self righteous, entitled, greedy, schmuck.

        • Mr. Berzerk

Pffftt…there is no time. As a professional programmer, I can tell you that it is zero effort for them to take another emulation file and import it in……that is how emulators work. You work for Nintendo or somthing, you seem overly insulted.

    • Denvy

Nintendo is greedy? You’re not entitled to a free game on your Wii U. You’re the one being greedy. Besides, you don’t have to pay a dime to play the game if you’ve already bought it. Just boot up Wii mode and enjoy. If you’re not happy with that, pay for the CONVENIENCE of playing on the U.

  • CEObrainz

If only the European store was like the American one….sigh…

  • Dáibhí wotshissurname

As ever, Europe just gets screensavers and mini-figurines for hundreds of pounds’ worth of spending. In case anyone’s wondering, they don’t do eShop codes or games – they’re still selling DSi and Wii Shop points

  • Mr. Berzerk

Everyone who does the post play surveys for the vc games needs to give them a bad review, and claim that the whole wii/wii vc/wii u vc being three seperate things as the reason for the bad review, as it is retarded…….I think I need to calm down.

    • Christian Schoff

      Shh.

  • Denvy

Still waiting for SMRPG to be released on the Wii U VC. Can’t play it with the controllers I have until then.

  • classicgamer20

YAY!!!!!!!!!! I love these games especially super mario RPG

  • Ducked

Wii mode? Damn Nintendo, you love pissing me off sometimes…

  • Yousif Alromaithi

i am getting Super Mario RPG because I played the game on SNES it is time to own it in digital. Love it and will finish it again. Thanks Ashley for posting this news.

  • RichM

I’d love to get Super Mario RPG, but the fact that you have to go to the Wii emulator is a no go for me. I’m going to save my coins. If you really look at it, the club rewards suck. Spend $200 in games and get an $8 game. Deluxe digital promotion is much better…and you still earn coins. Then again, Super Mario RPG is not available from the eShop. You know what, I want and HD remake of this game. I loved it. And I don’t want it for the 3DS although I am certain that’s where it would go if they did do it.

  • Leo

Why they can’t simply release Super Mario RPG on the WiiU virtual console?!

    • Pokemonsilph

      This.

    • Mr. Berzerk

Because, although I love Nintendo, they really have no idea how to make a UFI. Look at there online multiplayer. Absolutely terrible way of doing it. They make illogical business decisions. If someone made a list of all the bizar and illogical decisions Nintendo has made, it would rival Microsoft. Are they a sucessfull company? Yes, but they would be 10 times what they are now, if they stopped with the weird business models.

      • Iuri Borges

        So true.

      • TrueGamer

Ge rid of Iwata and their business will improve.

        • val berger

not sure about that. Think Yamauchi, he was, by all respect, one hell of a stubborn bastard if it comes to business and Super Mario RPG is a perfect historical Milestone for that as it was the last Squaregame for a Nintendo console for a long, long time.

I think Iwata is doing quite a lot right and he has earned credit for that. But yeah, they need to just hire a GOOD marketing agency. And get some people with more ideas of how to do Onlinestuff together. The eShop for instance works, thanks to EA, very good. It can’t be too hard to get some good people together if you are Nintendo. They just have to want. And to know why and how it’s done.

        • Connor Devlin

          If only Yamauchi was here.

      • Rick Valenta

Nintendo has a pantheon of bad business decisions. They are successful in spite of themselves. If the N64 was CD based…If the GameCube Played DVD’s….If the Wii was in HD….. If the Wii U was more powerful…. Still love em’ though..

    • matthew garcia

I play all these games free on a emulator on my galaxy s4 with a moga controller

      • Hipster Victor

        ..

        • TrueGamer

Now now. Stress is bad for you.

          • Hipster Victor

Lololol I know ^^; my bad

      • Simon Stevens

Moga controller?, bitch please, my xperia play is overclocked and is the king of emulation

        • TrueGamer

I have a Chinese knock off gaming tablet. Surprisingly, it works quite well and better than I expected from Hong Kong. The quad core GPU makes it perfect for high end gaming.

          • Simon Stevens

I bought one for my son, it’s not bad at all :) the make isn’t very well known “jxd” but it’s a cracker

          • TrueGamer

They’re top quality, actually. They are picking up on value in the market. Which model is it?

          • Simon Stevens

jxd s5110b :) it’s only 5 inch but with the rate he drops things lol, smaller the better, it’s pretty good, the drasticds and ppsspp emulators pretty good, I need to put the dreamcast one on for him at some point, android is just the best :), what model android handheld did you get?

      • WiiUPS4

Yeah forget that i don’t do phone games and poor copies on a phone would suck..Play console the only way to go

        • TrueGamer

Tablets work well with them. I have a dedicated gaming tablet for these purposes. Works like a charm and can connect it to the TV via HDMI.

          • WiiUPS4

Yeah but nah pass on that i want a controller and some tablet and have to use my finger…so no and myself i will play these awesome games on a 80′ HDTV

          • TrueGamer

You don’t have to use the touchscreen. I have one that has PS Vita button layout. Which works well with emulation and still play them on your TV. If touchscreen isn’t your thing, you aren’t limited to just that. Unless you don’t like tablets at all, that’s okay. To each their own in that department. I don’t normally waste my money on older games in the VC. Only newer. Thats just me I guess.

          • WiiUPS4

That cool im just not a tablet gamer but than i hacked my wii to play all the old games

          • TrueGamer

Thats cool. Not everyone enjoys it. I can’t see myself buying old NES games for 5 dollars a pop. I’d rather save for new titles.

          • Simon Stevens

rip off ain’t it, Sony charge less for ps1/2 games, Nintendo need to stop milking there fans, itls disgraceful, and these games should at least be gamecube and n64, snes and nes…. yeah good but not much of a prize to cash in on

          • Simon Stevens

I did the same, I’m in homebrew paradise lol

        • Simon Stevens

All games on all emulators, in particular, SNES and NES work flawlessly on android, the same applies for OUYA, though the controller is a piece of crap, give it a chance before you call them “poor copies”, as they are original copies that work just as well as they did back then, Nintendo charge too much for VC so fuck them.

          • WiiUPS4

True but im not going to play games on a tablet or phone when i can play them on what there were ment for..A 80′ Big screen..That’s the way to go

      • TrueGamer

        Good man.

    • Frankie

Because programming for the Wii and Wii U are two different things. Programming for the Wii is faster and easier, while still playable on the Wii U.

  • steveb944

I still regret trading my Super Mario RPG nearly new game for a badly used DKC game back in my SNES times. I’m a smarter gamer nowadays, I still enjoyed my DKC and now I get a chance of reliving my Mario RPG.

  • Hana Taiyou

I was like, “Super Mario RPG for Wii U? Finally, a game for my Wii U, and I’ve been looking to play this ga–I need a Classic Controller.. …” Ugh, I guess I’ll just download this to my Wii and let the Wii U collect dust.

    Game Cube controllers~ :3

    • Joey

…then you will have to buy it full price for Wii U virtual console in the future once it comes out,.

      • Hana Taiyou

When’s that coming out, 2060? Ha, about the time the Virtual Console gets GameCube games?

  • GregoryTheRainMaker

    Two good games…I likey. :)

  • Josh111111

This is really ridiculous that I can’t play these games on the Wii U.

  • greengecko007

I’ve been wanting the hanafuda card set, but it’s been unavailable. I know that these rewards are just Nintendo being generous to their most loyal fans, but it would be nice if out of stock items were resupplied more often…

  • Byrong1

So far the only Wii U games released were ones that were part of the $0.30 promotion. At this rate it will be a year before a Wii U virtual console game is released that I haven’t purchased already.

  • CaesarGood

I found myself watching the video for Mario RPG on nintendo club and realized they had the whole final fight scene with Mario and Bowser, I couldn’t believe it…Almost made me not want to play it…

    • Tomtom

Well actually that’s the fight from the beginning of the game.

  • http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008SRISGU#reader_B008SRISGU Adam Howell

Will we ever get the rare games on VC?

  • Simon Stevens

Why do I have to boot into Wii mode Nintendo :( why?…..

  • WadeSlade

Fan Theory for Smash Bros: Nintendo releases Super Mario RPG for Club Nintendo users. Awhile back Sakurai had that tweet response (although I believe it was deemed fake) that responded to a fan saying to include Mega Man, Isaac from Golden Sun, and last but not least Geno from Super Mario RPG to which Sakurai responded by saying 2 out of 3…we already have Mega Man so possibly Nintendo gearing up to announce Geno as a playable character??? Just a theory.

  • Pikachief

Aww Mario RPG was on club nintendo not too long ago :/ I was hoping for something else :P Oh well, its the best game ever made ;) lol so good thing more people can get it before its up on Wii U VC!

  • Tom Greene

Nintendo…how have wii come to this…smh

  • Ricky__Spanish

Mario RPG great. How many months do we have to wait for the Wii U version?

  • Ricky-Tiki-Tembo-So-Sorembo

Is this going to get ported to the VC after this month is over? I’d rather spend the buck fifty rather than the coins.
