    1080p now plz :(

Ill prob pick it up later on I have Tomb Raider and BF4 to deal with for now. And PVZ Garden Warfare and Final Fantasy soon :P

    • Deadpool U

No I’d rather have the game moving fluidly in 720HD than be clunky on 1080.

      • Arthur Jarret

I’d rather have slighly less background detail, 1080p AND 60fps.
Do you know how ugly 720p is on a 200″ screen?

Unless they will support stereoscopic 3D – then the lower resolution isn’t as noticeable.

  • darkcreap

    The movement seems very fluid.

  • Skelterz

    already watched it..

  • Donaald

This further proves that gameplay > Framerate > art-style and animation > resolution

    • That guy who hates Spike

We all have our own preferences.

      • Carlos Webster

What he’s saying about gameplay being better than all those things (especially resolution) is practically fact.

        • That guy who hates Spike

          Well…not always.
You see titles like “Flower” and “Journey” that have excellent Art Style Animation and Story Telling, and it’s done perfectly. Some, like IGN and Gamespot have even claimed Journey as their 2012 Game of the Year.
It’s just a matter of opinion, AND a matter of what the “Game” is.
Some people like resolution, that’s their own opinion and it’s not better than yours, because they’re both enjoying their time with their systems.

          • Arthur Jarret

I liked the gameplay of Flower and Journey – the very concept of the game – most.

I think art direction trumps framerate, though – but other than that, I agree with Donaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaald

        • greengecko007

Maybe, but what is actually a fact is that it differs for everyone. For me, even if 3 out of 4 of those categories are absolutely perfect, if the game suffers horribly in a particular area I’m not going to waste money on it. I skipped The Wonderful 101 because, although several people told me it was fun, I hated the art style.

    • BIG Franky

it proves nothing of the sort…. depends on preference.

      • Donaald

Then why do you play the Wii U if resolution is so important to you?

        • Arthur Jarret

If resolution wasn’t important, we would still be happily playing our NES :P

          • Donaald

            I still do.

          • Arthur Jarret

            Yeah… me too.
But only on my television (at 42″ I can hardly tell the difference between 720p and 1080p) – it looks terrible when you project it across your living room wall with an Acer H6510BD full HD 3D DLP projector, though.

    • Shota

what do you mean? this game does all things you mentioned perfect

      • Donaald

        That was the point, genius.

        • Shota

          doesn’t look like it

          • Donaald

Then go to your education establishment and ask for a refund

          • Shota

i’m happy that i still go to school. and then become a animator. seeing how you are acting i suggest to go on a therapy

          • Donaald

            Noted

    • Eric

Why does this have so many negative votes? It’s spot-on.

    • ZeldaFan83

For the most part I would agree with this. Gameplay is and always will be the most important aspect of a game and Tropical Freeze looks great. Can’t wait til the 21st.

    • http://MacroManJr.blogspot.com/ Brian Lockett

I prefer gameplay = framerate = art style and animation = resolution. In short, a full effort.

  • LightupmyLife

Game looks good, but don’t see much of a difference in it compared to other videos.

    • Guest

Yes I’m starting to understand why companies often use clever ads with characters and such instead of constantly showing gameplay, seeing gameplay over and over for weeks before the game is even released kinda makes me bored of the game before I even play it.

      • http://MacroManJr.blogspot.com/ Brian Lockett

Before this age of instant gratification online and YouTube, there used to be a thing called “Buying or renting the game to see it.” I miss it. I do agree that we often know like half the game before it’s even out. Either we see too much of it get revealed, or people start telling spoilers even right there in the gaming news casts sometimes.

  • Luciano

    SUCH GRAPHICS!
    WOW!

    • RyuNoHadouken

you’ve obviously never gamed on a mid range PC

      • Arthur Jarret

I did – and I must say: this looks WAY better than Doom, Jazz jackrabbit and Commander Keen did on my mid-range PC.

        • RyuNoHadouken

these graphics are “ok” at best…nothing to say “WOW” about…just keeping it real :)

      • Luciano

I have Radeon 6630 and I’ve played SSFIV AE and Tekken you dumb.
Why do you have all this bad feeling in your heart?

        • RyuNoHadouken

these graphics suck…nothing to say “WOW” about…no bad feelings in my heart…i just speak the truth

      • http://MacroManJr.blogspot.com/ Brian Lockett

        Oh, just shaaaaaadduuuup!

        • RyuNoHadouken

the hate is strong in you, young padawan

          • http://MacroManJr.blogspot.com/ Brian Lockett

No hate. Just someone addressing your crude assumptions. Just because Luciano acknowledged that he liked the visuals for this Wii U game, you so needlessly assume he has no idea what good visuals are. So, yeah, you got a New Yorkah’ “shaaaaaadduuuup!” from me.

          • Luciano

            Thank U Brian Lockett

I have a Wii U and I’m totally happy with the DKC Tropical Freeze,I just make a funny joke because all that story about “WATCH DOGE” was recently closed and solved.

I’m a huge fan of Nintendo consoles and portables, and right now I’m looking for more money to buy all the games that are coming to the console and portable.

  • Shy Guy

I wish I could play as a viking walrus, goo goo g’ joob…

  • GregoryTheRainMaker

The game moves smoother than I thought.

  • lwlshintalwl

    Game looks amazing *.*!!!

  • Ian Settlemyer

Both Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong should make it into SSB4.

    • Ducked

      Diddy yes, Dixie, no

  • Assassinated23

Yay, slow motion Donkey Kong! ( watching on a tablet, so I didn’t do the 2times speed thing.)

  • Dj

Wasn’t too into this game at first, but now…..

  • SGTMAR

    releases Feb 21st

  • Skelterz

someone seems to be spamming downvotes again?

    • LightupmyLife

What else is new? Someone has a lot of time on their hands. They seem to target certain posters too. Lol.

      • InterTreble

The mental age of a lot of people is far lower from their actual one, my friend… ;)

  • http://nintendopapercraftvideos.wordpress.com/ Sam

    Looks great!
Off-topic, but I had to vent sometime; my two little sisters are mistreating the GamePad. It’s only a little over a month old, and it already has a big scratch on it and every day it seems I hear a big *THUD* by the TV. :/

    • thedeciderU

make them replace it when it releases as stand alone. or threaten them?

      • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

You dont mess around, do you? XD

      • readypembroke

you can get new ones from Nintendo themselves

        • thedeciderU

yeah, unfortunately the gamepad (because of the finish) can scratch relatively easy. mine has a few barely noticeable marks down at the very bottom center that you can really only see in the light, and i’m super careful with it. i don’t have sisters running around – just me and it even has tiny marks. i have a silicon cover, but it renders the gamepad nearly unplayable. i have another one that’s a hard case (fitted to the gamepad, allowing buttons to peep through), but again, it is unplayable. it’s only good if you want to browse videos since there need not be any fluency in movement and cooperation of button combos. hopefully they will invent something that allows play and hand comfort to preserve the slick finish on the gamepad, or, maybe nintendo will release a matte finish version? i wouldn’t mind that.

          • readypembroke

have you tried the Nerf case? It is good.

      • http://nintendopapercraftvideos.wordpress.com/ Sam

I already tried; my parents won’t make them buy a new one. The best they’ll do is ground them from it for a little while. ):(

    • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

put it somewhere out of their reach?

      • http://nintendopapercraftvideos.wordpress.com/ Sam

Well they’re 12 and 7. And I’d get in trouble.

    • kevin nun—-

buy a case and screen protector?

      • http://nintendopapercraftvideos.wordpress.com/ Sam

Well we were going to order the Hori one with Wii Part U, but it said something like “mature games may contain violence, drug references…”. So we weren’t allowed to get it. :I

  • Justin Carlson

I watched it at half speed so I could see the animation and background better… and because I can’t be bothered with installing stuff. :P

    It Looked really good!

  • matthew garcia

The game looks great but I dont think its to difficult to make graphics look good on a sidescroller. Kinda wished they went the dk64 way to show what the wii u could really do with big open world environments

    • Eric

I agree, I’d like to see a more free-roaming 3D platformer. While it does look great, there is so much potential with full 3D environments. I think Retro could make a DKC game almost as good as Banjo Kazooie was.

      • matthew garcia

I believe so to with a actually deeper immersive story other than his bananas getting stolen. It would be badass

    • Arthur Jarret

I would actually hope for a new IP for that. Something that could use the gamepad to interact with the environment in a way Mario or Donkey kong would not be able to.

They could even dust off old IP for that: Imagine a star-tropics sequel where you can switch weapons off the fly and issue commands to NAV-COM (liberated from the submarine and relegated to a wearable buddy role similar to Kazooie on Banjo’s back) with the gamepad.

      • matthew garcia

Yeah definately. I was hoping for something done in like a sci fi world with technology everywhere in great detail lol. I may think this right now cuz I smoked a little weed lol.

      • Nabecoat

+1 for all things Star Tropics

    • Leo

I don’t really like the cartoon style that Retro uses for the “Return” series, imo the SNES art direction still fits DK better.

    • Ducked

Nintendo still hasn’t made a 3D open world game for the Wii U yet. Super Mario 3D World wasn’t full 3D, Wind Waker HD was just a remake, and New Super Mario Bros U and Tropical Freeze are side scrollers.

      • Arthur Jarret

They funded one, though (Lego City).
And arguably, Pikmin 3 is as open world as Mario 64 (multiple open levels).

Super mario 3D world IS full 3d, by the way – just not open world (i.e.- completely lineair). Maybe I shouldn’t argue over semantics, but f it – I love arguing over semantics.

        • Ducked

          SM3DW doesn’t have a full 3D camera gameplay.

      • matthew garcia

Yeah I believe it was chosen to do dk as a sidescroller cuz its faster to develop the game that way and nintendo needed games faster cuz of the lack of many. Im sure they wanted to do 3d also but would have taken much longer and nintendo needed games now. I may be wrong though

  • RyuNoHadouken

ill get it when it drops to $30

  • GuardiansFan

i’m not sure you are actually getting 60fps when you double the speed…it likely skips every 2nd frame and results in 30fps as Youtube doesnt natively support 60fps.

    • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

I was gonna say.. I’m not sure if that’s exactly how it works…

    • CyanideInsanity

After a side-by-side comparison, I’m certain it does play at 60fps, or at least tries to. It does consistently drop frames, but is still a smoother experience than another video playing at 30fps.

      • GuardiansFan

thats interesting….although when i played it i had skipping problems…maybe its just my crappy laptop

  • companyoflosers

meh, kinda feel like id be more interested if it was an open world 3d donkey kong game. maybe take a few aspects of the old banjo kazooie games and youde have a donkey kong game i could get behind. this old platforming stuff is just not for me. makes me think of a phone game.

    • http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008SRISGU#reader_B008SRISGU Adam Howell

So 2d games are just phone games now? How far our cultures regressed. :(

      • companyoflosers

not what i meant, this just reminded me of alot of things i would see in a phone game. id just be more interested in a more open world 3d donkey kong game. this is just more of the same.

  • Michael Hancock

Only Rare could make a true successor to Donkey Kong Country. This game on the other hand-looks generic, bland, uninspired, boring, gimmicky, easy, and watered down. Even the title sounds retarded. “Tropical Freeze”.

    • Deadpool U

You’re an idiot for many reasons especially if you can’t get the title Tropical Freeze.

      • Michael Hancock

Unlike yourself, I am a linguist that does understand the meanings of words. The word “tropical” means having the characteristics of the Tropics. The word “freeze” means to be turned into ice. So what the title means is “characteristics turning into ice.” Which makes no sense…well, to people more intelligent than yourself. You’re probably not too “bookish”, eh? So what is there to “get” (as you put it) in the title? You fucking weak retard.

        • Deadpool U

You’re also immature since you’re obviously slow in the head let me explain the title: The kongs live on a tropical island which is attacked by vikings who blow snow over everything thus Tropical Freeze and also because freeze rhymes with breeze now do yourself a favor and learn some common sense.

          http://wendy-cooper.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/mp-common-sense-edited.jpg

          • Michael Hancock

That’s all you got, bro? You disappoint me to the point of disdain. Look it up, bitch.

          • Marcus Larsson

            Dont mind him.
He gets pissed everytime someone spits on any of the few titles that is released for the wii u.

          • Deadpool U

Stay out of this no one needs you defending idiots who can’t figure out a simple titlebut now I’ll just flag.

          • http://MacroManJr.blogspot.com/ Brian Lockett

To this entire line of commenters:

How do any of you guys not cringe in leaving you comments unedited? I don’t mean to be pedantic, but seriously, the Edit button does exist! °Д°

Check your spelling. Use a comma to differentiate between pauses, and a period to differentiate between sentences.

There’s nothing more sadder than seeing people debate in the comments over corrections, but all failing to apply just some pretty simple editing. You all look 12.

          • Michael Hancock

“More sadder”? How do you not cringe when leaving comments unedited? Is English your first language?

          • http://MacroManJr.blogspot.com/ Brian Lockett

I’d originally used “pathetic.” Just an extra word my eyes gazed over. The eye catches typos easier than extraneous words. But still, shit! It does step on my point a bit about editing. Though, still, at least I didn’t create an unparsed wall of text or run-on sentence.

          • Deadpool U

What are you 12? You have to be if you still can’t get the title after I spelt ot out for you.

      • greengecko007

How about let’s try to not act like a fanboy? There’s no reason to personally attack someone for having a different opinion. Nice job getting upvotes from Ladypool U, Headpool U, and Kidpool U too. I’m sure that’s purely coincidence.

        • LightupmyLife

They all behave the same. Purely a coincidence indeed. I guess where he’s from, opinions are a federal offense.

    • Leo

Well unfortunaly Rare is dead and there is no hope for Retro to simply copy what Rare did. I absolutely agree that the true Donkey Kong Country is nothing like this cartoon watered down travestite but i will give it a try just like i did with DKC Returns (and i didn’t like it). There is still hope for the music though with David Wise on board at least.

  • thedeciderU

on a completely unrelated note – just bought super mario galaxy and am playing through on the wiiu. i cannot believe i missed this gem (already planning on buying 2). i am so glad i took the chance since it uses the nunchuk and wiimote. also, this game is gorgeous upscaled (to 1080i). the fluid water graphics look almost as good as in SM3DW.

now i’ll never get to wind waker HD and wonderful 101… they’re right here still wrapped.

    • ronalsk

I did the same thing about a year ago except that I played part 2 first. I enjoyed it so much that I bought pt 1 right away and have played both twice already.

      • thedeciderU

that rocks. i’m so annoyed i didn’t do this in anticipation of the wiiu launch, or during the game drought (though i always had something to play). i have so many games to play through right now. i started collecting last year, and have too many awesome choices haha

      • thedeciderU

have you played mutant mudds deluxe? that game was solid and so much fun.

        • ronalsk

no i haven’t. twilight princess and skyward sword looked really good too on the wii u. did u play those or not into them?

          • thedeciderU

zelda games were never my thing as a kid, mainly because i did not own them, and my closest friends never brought them over (though i do recall playing zelda and zelda II very briefly). that’s right, i just played nes zelda in august, and did not complete it. i really want to play nes star tropics (which i own), but, to answer your question, i have not played either of the wii zelda games. i’ve heard they are phenomenal, but bought wind waker hd because i was so attracted to the art direction and wanted an action rpg on the wiiu – and to try to support a struggling platform. i’d really like to play through secret of mana. there’re just too many. i don’t own tons of wii games (i own more for wii u) as of now.

          • 00EpicGamer00

Umm question. How did you get Twilight princess to look good? When I play it on my Wii U it’s very blocky and pixelated (regardless if I set the Wii U’s resolution to that of the wii’s). Is it the TV that causes it or something?

          • ronalsk

Hmm good question, I do wonder if the tv has something to do with it. I knew someone who tried it on their set and it didn’t look good either but mine looks substantially much better and I’ve also seen youtube videos where there’s a big improvement. Sorry I can’t help more!

          • 00EpicGamer00

It’s fine, I have a feeling it IS the TV that causes it anyway. I suppose forcing a 480p game to a 1080p flat-screen TV will cause some distortion. But, all that aside, it’s the game itself that’s truly important, and in my opinion, I think Twilight Princess is the best Zelda game ever.

          • ronalsk

Funny thing is TP was my first ever Zelda game. I didn’t play Zelda games as a kid and decided to try TP when I first got my Wii and was immediately hooked. I love the ‘darkness’ about it and the soundtrack is pretty amazing too.

          • 00EpicGamer00

You’re not alone. TP was my first Zelda game too (GameCube version.) Later on, I tried OOT on 3DS and SS but….didn’t like those games as much as TP….SS especially.

(Also, sorry for late reply, for some reason disqus now doesn’t tell me when someone responds to any of my postes.)

          • ronalsk

No problem! I recently played WW and enjoyed it but wasn’t wowed. Hopefully Nintendo will surprise us with something epic soon.

          • 00EpicGamer00

Oh yeah, I played WW HD too…not sure how I forgot about that one. And yeah, I agree Wind Waker is a good and fun game, but it didn’t “wow” me either.
The new Zelda for Wii U is like, the most hyped Zelda game ever. Hopefully we’ll get some news about it soon.
(I’m hopping the art style and graphics are going to be how they appear in the new Smash brothers. But it probably won’t, just because.)

          • ronalsk

Can’t come soon enough! In the mean time, I’m playing Super Metroid I downloaded from VC and enjoying it immensely and looking forward to DKCTF ;-)

  • ZeldaFan83

Can’t wait to start playing a great Wii U game finally. I’ve beaten all the Wii U games I have and have been playing Wii games that I never finished or didn’t get to during this Wii U game drought. Right now I’m finishing up Zelda Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess as well as getting ready for Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, Xenoblade Chronicles and Metroid Prime Trilogy.

  • InterTreble

This is a joy for the eyes, a prize for everybody who have put Wii U in the right place, i.e. in their living room, while certain people with a lot of spare time struggle to talk no sense and troll Nintendo in forums and blogs all around the world. Every time one game is releasing to Wii U, votes are from 9 to 10. This is the truth, this is what really matters. No time for haters and trolls, the only losers of every console war.

  • Leo

I wonder why is taking so long for a new Nintendo Direct…. Nintendo should infest the internet with information by now but we are already in February and we still have nothing besides some commercials of DK!

    • Guahiatt

We’ll probably see a Direct a little after DKCTF releases. That is my guess

  • Eoin Mulhern

It looks great but i don’t think it well sell much Wii u’s as it should. They should have Mario kart 8 around spring along with super smash bros if they want to sell Wii u’s right now. ( By the way i think the Wii U will sell OK when where finished for it at the ninth generation of console,Nintendo will be fine)

  • Joshua Landi

I’m pretty sure this isn’t 60fps. Frame-rate is a measure of how many times the image is refreshed per second. The human eye doesn’t see in fluid motion, we see in a series of images refreshed rapidly so that everything seems fluid. Video recorders, movies, and video games work the same way. When you speed up playback rate to x2, all you’re doing is taking a 30fps refresh rate and decreasing the amount of time it takes for the video to playback. The gaps between frames are still there, just less noticeable. It may be a figurative 60fps since technically it does fit 60 frames in one second, but that’s not how 60fps should be. Either way, for me, the difference is negligable. I’m fine with the standard framerate of games.

  • Rick Valenta

I still haven’t beaten the Wii Donkey Kong. That game is brutally hard. There should be an easy mode for those of us that are lazy and play video games to unwind, not to pull our hair out.

  • http://MacroManJr.blogspot.com/ Brian Lockett

I hate how slowly Donkey Kong moves while being barrel-shot in the air. The animation’s so sluggishly slow. Ruins the quick-action pace just watching it.
